Okay, so I was mentally microwaving Shadow, (as one does,) when I reached kind of an epiphany about Green/Vio/Shadow and what makes the ship so interesting. I'll be honest, this ship has never really been my favorite, and so I hadn't given it much thought before BUT
My angst-loving brain did come up with this:
Part of the reason vidow works so well is cause these are the two characters who personally hurt the other the most. Vio (outside from Vaati&Ganon who's emotional harm to Shadow we don't really know much about) is the one to hurt Shadow the most, and Shadow in turn causes Vio the most pain as well.
Now, after Shadow, who's the second-most affected by Vio's actions? Who faces the stress and fear and maybe actual physical injury from Vio turning evil? Green.
You see where I'm going with this? >:)
Not to mention, Shadow doesn't really love Green cause Shadow equates Green with Link, and he's determined to be anything but Link. So there's lots of tension there, too. More on that here.
The angst potentials with this ship I SWEARRRRRR

Another Point in Favor of Vidow
By this point, many of us in the Four Swords manga fandom are aware of the relationship that is (or maybe isn't) implied between Vio and Shadow. I agree that it is up for some debate, but also my opinion is that the relationship is as clear as it can get, operating within the bounds of its context—that is, early-2000s Japan, kids' manga, the bias against gay couples.
This is just another pin on the conspiracy board of red lines!
The moon is present in three main places during the Vio/Shadow arc—very first (and most damning) when the two meet one-on-one, once in a panel showing the Fire Temple that the two are hanging out in, and once behind the two as they ride on the dragon to cause chaos. (Many thanks to @hauntinghyrule for helping me find those!)
There is a common belief in Japan that the author Natsume Souseki once told a student that their translation was wrong. They'd translated "I love you" as "kimi o aisu," and he thought it was far too blunt. He was a product of the Meiji era, and preferred the idea that the Japanese language should be more poetic and subtle. He then proposed the idea that instead of "ware kimi wo aisu," one should say "tsuki ga kirei desu ne" instead, which translates to English more as "the moon is beautiful, isn't it?" (You can read more about that, and why the guy might not have actually said it, here!)
You can see where I'm going with this.
Whether or not Souseki actually said it, the phrase is widely understood to be a sideways way of saying "I love you." The moon has a lot of meanings in Japanese culture and language, and I won't say that this is the interpretation, or if our lovely authors meant this at all, but they might have. They seem fond of hinting at it. ("We feel blessed that the characters' feelings came across so clearly.")
If we can read into the presence of the moon as presence of romantic possibility, what happens then? Well. A lot.
When Shadow first approaches Vio, he's seen hanging out on top of a pine tree with the moon bright and full behind him.
Tumblr media
This isn't the actual manga panel, I don't have that right now, but this art was based on that specific scene, and you may recognize it. There are a few other panels this scene that Vidow shippers like to call out—Vio's apparent blush when Shadow casually moves his sword away (a power move regardless of intent that made me fall in love with him), or the way Shadow hangs on Vio when persuading him to turn to the dark side. If we can read the moon's presence as a hint towards romance, then it's pretty clear what's being implied here—there's an element of seduction.
The second place we see the moon is just after Vio and Shadow's heart-to-heart on the balcony, one of the only canon interactions between them during this period without a lot of plot happening. Here's the panel I mean:
Tumblr media
Like hauntinghyrule pointed out, if the moon is visible here, it was likely present during that conversation. That feels like reaching, but I think it's pretty significant that we can see the moon in this panel, too. It's here for that bonding moment. It's part of establishing the tone and setting. If the moon is inherently romantic, then so is this scene.
And then the third panel that the moon is seen in is this one, Vio and Shadow flying on a dragon to bring chaos and fire:
Tumblr media
If the moon means romance, then this is a date. They've had their moment, they're in love, all is going well.
It might not mean that much. I could be veering into atla-levels of overanalyzation, for sure! However, this feels like something that could definitely be intentional. "月が綺麗ですね" is understood to sort-of kind-of mean "I love you," turning the moon into a symbol of implied love.
And...it's very thematic, even if it isn't intended. Come on. The moon, hinting toward unspoken romance in some of the scenes where Vio and Shadow's dynamic is at its most stable? Dramatic. Amazing.
...You could read even more into it, and say that Vio is Shadow's moon—reflected light of the Hero or the Princess, guiding him to see the good, a desirable light in the darkness that Shadow insists he has to stay in. There's something lovely about that interpretation, too. :)

I don’t think I’ll ever truly understand what interests me so much about vidow, this one, non-canon ship from an extremely niche non-canon Zelda manga written for the main-series game with the lowest sales out of them all. If I had to explain it, i’d probably say it has something to do with the characters themselves, Shadow and Vio, being extremely interesting and entertaining just by themselves, even more when written together. Like,,, i’m honestly astonished these characters were written for the manga they were featured in, given how long they’ve managed to live in my brain for rent-free.
I’m not extremely into shipping in general, mainly because I have weirdly high standards for ships, and even then I usually tend to prefer platonic/familial relationships more as they resonate with me a lot more personally than romantic ones. Also because ace. Yeah 🤟
Also enemies-to-lovers (or even just emenies-to-friends) can be really interesting, getting to see these two people’s opinion of one another slide from one side of the spectrum all the way to the other. It’s fascinating, and awesome from a character-writing perspective, how people like Shadow and Vio navigate around each other in the beginning, and how it changes over time.
The Four Swords manga is just really good. I don’t even know why, it just is. And I think that’s great.

Yo for the snippet game maybe 33? If you want to of course lol
33. waking up together
the vio scrunchie lore deepens
786 words | teen | vidow, obviously
read it on ao3 or under the cut:
Apparently, Shadow can no longer sleep alone.
Even with a cat purring on his chest, bundled in several blankets atop a spacious four-poster bed “borrowed” from Hyrule Castle, he just can’t make it happen.
It’s been almost a year since Vio brought him back from the void, and maybe eight or nine months since they started sharing a bed every night. Tonight breaks their streak, though, because Vio is not in bed with Shadow. He’s somewhere in Karusa Valley, on a stealth mission to investigate a clan of ex-Sheikahs who seem to be willfully ignoring Ganon’s death. That, or they’re planning to resurrect him, which is obviously a threat that Zelda wants neutralized as soon as possible. She’d asked Vio for his help a few days ago, explaining that she preferred someone quiet and observant, with sharp reflexes and very good aim.
To his credit, Vio had asked Shadow if he wanted to join him. While he no longer has magical powers, he’s still an asset in battle when needed. But Shadow knew he’d just slow Vio down—and honestly, someone needed to be around to feed the cat. He truly does not mind spending time away from his domestic partner (that’s what they’ve been calling it lately), and likes that Vio trusts himself enough to believe that he’ll be okay alone.
And he’s not even alone—Pinecone’s right here with him, probably missing Vio just as much as he is.
“I’m turning on my side,” Shadow announces, very slowly shifting so Pinecone can keep her balance and resettle on his shoulder. He reaches for Vio’s pillow and presses his face up to it, hoping that maybe Vio’s scent will fool his body into letting him rest. The smell of Vio’s cologne is strong—woodsy, more herbal than floral, with a slight hint of citrus. Shadow resents the notion that anyone could just buy this specific kind of perfume. Nobody else should be allowed to smell quite like his favorite person.
Pinecone chooses this moment to hop off the bed, making a quiet thump against the rustic hardwood. Shadow sighs and then inhales again, squeezing his eyes shut against the soft pillowcase.
Oh, wow. The scent of Vio’s perfume is strong. Did he like spill it on the pillow, or—
Vio clears his throat and Shadow finally looks up.
“Hi,” Vio says from the doorway, holding a very smug-looking Pinecone in his arms.
Shadow flings Vio’s pillow across the room, nearly knocking his own amateur painting of Pinecone off the wall.
“You’re supposed to be in Gerudo,” Shadow says dumbly, blush spreading as he realizes what he just got caught doing.
“Missed you.”
“I missed you too. Did the mission go okay?”
Vio nods. He’s still in his stealth gear, so flattering and well-made, sort of masculine and sort of feminine and so entirely gorgeous. He’s got his hair tied up in his Work Scrunchie, which is just like every other purple scrunchie he owns except it’s covered in dried monster blood.
And the smell of his cologne is very strong… but so are several other less pleasant smells. Vio leans in to kiss Shadow and the scent only worsens, causing him to wrinkle his nose like Pinecone when she encounters a citrus fruit.
“Sorry?” Vio asks, likely expecting more fanfare and adoration given his early return. Shadow places a hand on his shoulder and gently bonks their foreheads together.
“I love you, Vio, but you smell like death. You are not getting in this bed until you take a fucking shower.”
Vio chuckles and steps backwards. “That’s fair, and I love you too. Think you can wait ten minutes longer?”
“When you stink this bad, yes.”
Shadow watches shamelessly as Vio undresses, appreciating his large hands, lean muscle, and various battle scars. Vio seems not to mind the attention, and despite Shadow’s disinterest in the act of sex he will never deny himself a sight so intimately shared.
Actually, you know what, he wants Vio in bed now.
But Vio is already through the bathroom door and running hot water, and Shadow can only imagine how nice it will feel for him to clean off the grime of the day. Very soon, Shadow will find himself in Vio’s arms. Very soon, he’ll finally get some rest.
Shadow retrieves Vio’s pillow and prepares it beside his own, even fluffing it up in apology for his previous transgressions. Of course Pinecone immediately takes Vio’s place, fully aware that he will act exasperated about it post-shower but also refuse to disturb her. Shadow is perfectly okay with that—the less room Vio has to himself, the more likely he is to cuddle up close.
Shadow can hardly wait.

small note for the anon that suggested a shipping poll
i might do polls like that eventually but it’s more likely that i won’t as it’d be hard to include everyone’s preferred ships anyway
if i do eventually do some there are some ships i will not be including as they make me very uncomfortable (such as vidow which was one of the ones you suggested i’m sorry dear anon)

Here's an interesting thing I realized:
Although I pronounce "Vio" as "vai-oh", I don't use that same Vi-rhymes-with-pie pronunciation for either of the possible Vio/Shadow portmanteau ship names.
I pronounce (or, perhaps "think of" is a better term, since I don't know if I've ever said either of these out loud) Vidow as "vih-dow" and Shadvio as "shad-vee-oh"

Magical Hearts
1(here) 2 3 4
Ao3 link
Summary: Oh my god they were roomates magical college au edition
Violet and Shadow have started college! Learning about the world and enhancing their magical studies are the least of their worries, when while practicing a warding spell, Vio accidentally (magically) locks out his hot (demon) roommate.
The sun barely peeked out any light this early in the morning through half shuttered blinds. Only the third shifters and crazy students up all night were awake at this hour. One such student in a dorm room in fact. Enjoying his time, comfortable a month into this school year already. Not a soul knew his secret and he intended to keep it that way, not even his roommate. Which was surprising to him, considering how damn smart and observant he was. Not to mention it was literally an academy geared towards the magically inclined. Classes didn’t start for another three or so hours but it was past the quiet hours restriction. That was about to be used to his full advantage.
“Gotta kiss myself I’m so pretty!~” A tall young man sang to himself, hubriously in the mirror. While applying eyeliner expertly. Hiis phone blaring obnoxiously and unrealistically loud with the song it played having no opinion for who it bothered. It’s not that his voice was bad, it was just five in the morning. No one should have that kind of energy at five am, regular schedule or not. He fluffed the vibrant purple hair, soft as sin. Gorgeous sun kissed skin with freckles that ran everywhere possible. An almost inhumanly pretty boy, with dark blue eyes once described to him as being deep inside an ocean without knowing which way was up.
Suddenly, the mood was ruined as his almost trance-like state of looking at himself in the mirror was interrupted with the assault of several pillows to his head.“Why? Every fucking morning.” There was that roommate. His voice was husky from being asleep and just woken up. Shadow would deny up and down that it had sent a shiver down his spine and somewhere else nearby south. “You are insufferable.” There was no real heat to the words, as a lanky blonde male appeared in the mirror behind him. The musical fiend turned around to face him now. His hair was a hot mess, having gone to bed with it wet, and his shaded irises were darkened and not fully awake. Surely more berry wine than the usual vibrant violet. “How are you always awake? You are so lucky I like you,” Vio yawned out the ending sounding more like nonsense.
“Good morning to you too,” He reached over and hit pause on Spotify as it began to play something a little more inappropriate yet appropriate to what his hormones were getting up to. “I picked up our shit yesterday, whatever you ordered came in; it’s on the counter next to the coffee maker.” Formulating full sentences even.
“I have a class early today, sorry.” Shadow’s voice softened sympathetically. “Wasn’t trying to wake you up.”
“ ‘S fine.” the other grumbled, joining him in the room and pulling out his toothbrush, starting his wake up routine. Once he was up, there was no going back to sleep. “Start some tea?” Vio rubbed his eyes in between actions. Shadow nodded and stepped out to do so. Thankfully they had similar tastes in tea. A nice dark english breakfast, or honey green-jasmine.Shadow typically preferred coffee, but easily gave in as an apology.
They shared hot tea and sleepy stories until Shadow had to leave for class. He departed with a silly salute and wink. It definitely didn’t make Vio smile when he wasn’t looking.
Vio opened his delivery while the other was out, smiling. “Finally!” he hummed, he’d been waiting for a while for this. He pulled out some fresh sage and the candles. It took forever to get this approved, fire hazard and all. Not every student was allowed to use magic in their dorms, but being the good little bookworm who never got caught had come with privileges. Vio tucked hair behind his long ear as he rolled up his sleeve. Revealing some arcanic symbols that curled up his pale arms like vines. He hasn’t shown many people his tattoos, or what they mean. He never got much sun because of it, afraid to show anyone. He was usually the palest in the room. Shadow was one of the few to have seen them, but he hadn’t known their meaning and didn’t really understand when Vio tried to explain it. Although Vio has always had a hard time ‘dumbing’ things down for people.

The young warlock laid out his supplies and materials, now was as good a time as any. He said his prayer and lit the candles and sage inside the shell. He made a few motions with his hand, the symbols on his arms glowing with magic, vibrant violet swirling around him. He held it in his hands and stood up. His eyes glowed softly and much more alert. The purple smoke and energy followed him from the light candles and sage as he walked around the little dorm. Vio returned back into his first position closing the spell with a satisfied and relaxed look. His shoulders seemed less set and tense as the last of the sage burned out. The symbols still glowed softly on his arms, from his use of magic. It smelled like sage and lavender throughout now. He hadn’t been able to practice magic without a sufficient barrier created so as to not bother other students sensitive to its use. It had never bothered his previous dorm partners before, as long as the smell of sage or weed didn’t. He left for his own classes that day much more visibly relaxed.
The blonde also got back first, having less hours today than his other. The door was left open to air out the strong scent lingering. He was sitting in his usual chair reading when it happened.
Shadow returned from his last class of the day, texting on his phone. He was not looking up when he attempted to enter. Vio looked up when a loud thunk hit his pierced ears, as if he had not just walked into an open door. “Fuck!!” his phone was on the floor, and the pretty boy was holding his now bleeding nose. “What the fuck?”

“What? What did you do?” the blonde immediately accused, assuming he had run into the doorframe or something similar.
“What did I do? What did you do??” Shadow rubbed the sore spot on his face staring. This time with Vio paying full attention he attempted a second try at entering the threshold to no success. It was as if he was actually walking into a closed door.
Vio snorted. “Oh come on. Stop fucking with me and get in here, I want to show you what I got today.” he rolled his eyes, getting up and shutting his book. He placed it on the side table approaching the other. He still had his sleeves rolled up with the faint magic remnants. For all he’s researched he sure didn’t realize what was happening. The taller boy glared, though half heartedly.

“  What magic thingy did you do?” he insisted again. Shadow seemed serious enough, but Vio was unconvinced.
“I did a cleansing ritual today. So I can practice my magic without alerting or bothering others, or inviting unwanted things in. Are you- stop it would you? This is getting old Shads.” he crossed his arms, with a defiant look in those gorgeous eyes, while the other leaned on the invisible barrier.
“Fuck.” he ran a hand across his face. “You have got to be fuckin’ kidding me.” Shadow growled deeply, only just audibly. That certainly got his attention. “Look- can you-- break it? Please?”
“What?? Break it!? Why the hell-”
“Just do it and I’ll tell you when you let me in.” The dangerous boy scowled and interrupted him. Tiny fangs gritting his teeth together. Vio was lost in them for just a second making the other huff. They stood there staring each other down for a few moments before the blonde slowly let it down. He stumbled when it released, falling and catching his footing into the room. “ Thank you,” Shadow sighed in relief. He still seemed uncomfortable in the space.
“What exactly was that all about? If you don’t like the smell you don’t have to be that dramatic about it.” Vio narrowed his eyes at the other.
“No-no. It’s kinda nice actually. Just-” he rubbed the back of his neck, purple locks shifting as he brushed past them. “I’m kinda- “ He stopped and then looked around, before shutting the dorm door. “One of those…. “Bad things” you’re trying to keep out?” he gave him a sheepish grin, little fangs poking out charmingly. “You can’t say anything- I’m only telling you because I trust you!” He pauses. “And because I want to sleep in my own bed, but still!”
“What exactly does that mean?” he wasn’t asking a question, his tone wasn’t giving him an option to not answer. Vio looked him over with scrutiny attempting to determine what or who exactly his roommate really was.
“You learned about Twilins in high school right?” Shadow looked at him cautiously. “Well- I have that blood in my line. Which is why my hair is purple- don’t give me that look.” he huffed. “I wasn’t lying when I said it was my natural color! I can still prove it but you’re a prude.”
“I am not!” he protested, blushing. He really wasn’t but it was the thought of seeing Shadow more than half nude that made him flustered and shy. He had seen the boy in boxers and t-shirt more than enough times to know he was packing. And looked a few more times than he really should have. “Are you really?” he hesitantly reached out and curled some hair around his finger. As soft as it looked. “I guess I believe you.” and his expression became just as soft as the lock in his hand.
“Please don’t block me out again.” Shadow grinned cheekily. “Even if I wake you up too early.”
“Hmmm no promises.” Vio smirked up at him, but it fell when the other gave him a warm hug. He wasn’t expecting physical contact, it sent electricity up his spine. Shadow had to be very comfortable with someone to even consider something small like an arm pat.“Ah--oh.” he hugged him back slowly, enjoying the moment. Shadow nuzzled his cheek to his head a little before letting go. Vio’s head spun when he did so. A wave of the subtle cologne he hadn’t been close enough to notice before washed over his senses.
“Sorry..” He didn’t look sorry at all. There was a spark of deviousy in those eyes. Shadow knew exactly what he was doing, allowing such a rare touch to occur. Vio punched his arm playfully before retreating back to his book and chair. “I’ll put on some tea?” That was the second time today that he’d chosen to indulge Vio’s preference for tea over his own for coffee. It did not go unnoticed.
“That would be nice… thank you.” Vio watched him for a little too long before pretending to read once again. He hummed softly to himself, unfocused on his page. Maybe, just maybe, this year wouldn’t be so boring with him around.

So....
I finally got my Four Swords manga and read the entire thing in one sitting.
I have a few notes.
Red is a dumbass and I love him.
That whole hugging scene with Red and Blue came a little out of nowhere, but it was funny.
Red is an arsonist and I love him.
Green totally has the hots for Zelda.
I don't know why but Vio is my favorite.
Red is close in second though
Blue got fucking EATEN by the fucking Big Poe
And Red fucking saved him by being an arsonist
TWICE
Green is definitely the straight one, you can tell.
Shadow is dramatic as fuck
Vio is also dramatic as fuck
Shadow has a fucking DRAGON
Shadow literally destroyed Hyrule Castle and Castletown in a day. He's technically up there with Calamity Ganon
Shadow tricked Link into freeing Vaati!
My take was that Shadow was being heavily mistreated by Ganon and Vaati, which laid down some abuse subtext and....holy fuck that was sad. Maybe it's just 'cause my family was abusive that I got that read, but wow.
Shadow needs to be protected.
I love Shadow he needs to be given the good fucking things in life.
In the LU could he technically be brought back by one of Wild's blood moons? I read a fic about that. Does he count as a monster though? Then again, the blood moon enhances your cooking, so really I don't see why it can't give Shadow his physical form back.
Shadow deserves good things.
He just wanted attention and a family.
He killed himself to kill Vaati....I mean, I knew that before hand, but seeing it with my own two eyes....fuck
Shadow is a troll and I love him
He and Vio were just messing with Blue and Red lmao
Blue learned patience by being frozen in ice until Red decided to set him on fire, which, how long was that really? It was stated that they only left Vio alone for a day, so it must've only been a few hours. Must've felt like an eternity though.
I feel like Red and Blue were the main characters for most of the middle really.
I'm not complaining, their dynamic is hilarious and I love them
But I wanted to see Green and Vio interact with them more y'know.
I feel like Vio only really interacted with Shadow
And even then he was kinda lying the entire time.
Oh Hylia, Shadow's face when he realized Vio was going to smash the mirror.
That was just betrayal on so many levels
And he had just opened up about thinking Vio was the only one he could really trust.
After that I honestly feel it was dickish to just kill him.
And then he lives
Zelda is a top tier fucking Queen(tm)
She had no obligations to comfort someone who had kidnapped her and yelled at her
But she did and it was super sweet
THEN THE FUCKING SENTIENT CLOUD
I didn't know the clouds were sentient and honestly I'm still having a crisis over it
And in the beginning I thought Shadow just straight up killed Link's dad and I was like "oh damn okay this is darker than I expected"
But nope the fucker is still alive.
I feel like the knights of Hyrule were kind of a deus ex machina
And the final show down with Ganon was underwhelming
Vaati is a bitch
I think Red was the highlight of this story
And the fucking art style, because damn the expressions were funny
And I'm glad they implemented the subtle ways to tell them apart, like the textures of the tunics, the color of the shirt under the tunic(Green's is black) the light and dark eyebrows, and the eyes themselves.
Tingle was unexpected and I wanted him to go away like Green and Vio did
Honestly I still don't understand why people love Tingle, he annoys me.
Back to the actually good characters-THEY FUCKING LITERALLY TURNED A LITTLE GIRL INTO A DOLL
Her fucking doll(Rosie?) was creepy as fuck!
That trick was absolutely CREEPY AS FUCK
And I like how the four just wreck the bastard with toy weapons
And they keep them as real weapons when they leave
Like, how does that work lmao
Red set a fucking forest on fire
Red is an arsonist
Red is brilliant and I love him
Vio is an asshole and I love him
Just playing up how "Oh yeah Green is dead" and fucking messing with Red and Blue
I noticed Shadow is super touchy-feely with Vio and he's probably touch starved which makes sense.
Okay so Shadow wasn't dead, technically, is he still alive if all he can do is wave from Link's shadow and stuff?
It seems like a bad ending for Shadow.
In the LU, does this mean that Four just fucking stole the Four Sword and killed Vaati? Or did Zelda find some other way to seal him, 'cuz like, I'm pretty sure Four has the four sword in LU right????
So many plotholes but if this means I get more arsonist Red content, then I'm down.
Also, Shadow is gay af for Vio
Like, my gaydar was off the charts
YOU DON'T JUST GIVE A BRO THIS LOOK
Tumblr media
70. And, like, Vio, you JUST fucking killed Shadow, don't give me this shit
Tumblr media
71. This art is super gay, you can't deny that, they are literally fucking wrapped around each other
Tumblr media
72. And Shadow wanted to fucking rule the world WITH Vio, like, DAMN he's thirsty 73. If it were me, I'd still prefer ultimate authority 74. Just in case y'know 75. And Shadow was so ready to spill his secrets 76. And he was so fucking heartbroken when he saw Vio with the sledgehammer 77. Like fuck Vidow is definitely my top pairing. 78. And Green and Zelda, the token straights 79. And we can't forget Red and Blue 80. Like Red was hardcore flirting with Blue, you can't change my mind. 81. Zelda was so fucking confused when she saw that there were four Links, and it was cute and hilarious 82. I normally don't like Zelda, but she was so cute and sweet that I really couldn't help it. 83. Also that chad drawing of a past Link that split into four was funny 84. It was just so fucking out of place 85. They literally only rescued two of the six mages, so are the other four still trapped or were they released when Vaati and Shadow "died"? 86. The knights of Hyrule had to save the four, so are they technically the weakest Link? 87. Fuck I made a pun 88. I fucking hate myself 89. Blue was probably my least favorite of the cast, but that was probably because he reminds me of my sister 90. Y'know, the sister that hits me, yells at me, and calls me names? 91. It just rubs me the wrong way. 92. But aside from that, he was great. 93. A bit of a cocky asshole, but great. 94. And Link's dad just thinking he sees his son's dead body and Shadow just yeeting him into the dark realm. 95. Damn Shadow was an asshole 96. Vaati was even worse though, trying to get Link's father to kill his four sons. 97. That would've sucked. 98. Link hiding behind Zelda's chair was funny 99. Green and Zelda with the childhood friends turned lovers aspect would be cute 100. I like how a fairy just pops up out of no where in the middle of the book
I think that's it?
I love this book and it'll probably be the only one I ever reread.
If you didn't know, I hate rereading content unless I find it or a certain part of it worth reading through again. Which is to say, one, maybe two, fanfics(oneshots technically), and maybe this manga. So yeah, quite an exclusive club.
I don't regret this purchase!

Four Swords for the fandom thing 👀
YES YES THANK YOU FOR ASKING ILY /p <3
(Ask game)
The first character I first fell in love with: Red! Happy sunshine boy has my WHOLE heart. He was the one who I knew would be my favorite before I even started reading the manga. ...little did I know that they’d all be tied for my favorite. All 5 Links share a spot for my top favorite characters, I can’t choose. But Red was the first. It took a little while for me to come around to the others.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: GREEN?? I really didn’t care for him at first because he felt bland, but NOOO I just didn’t understand him!! But I DO now! And I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!! I will rant for HOURS about how wonderful Green is and about the intricacies of his personality (at least the way I see it). He’s the best.
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Uhhhh,, honestly? No one. I love them all. They’re great. I can’t think of anyone I don’t like. Except Tingle? But nobody likes Tingle lol
The character I love that everyone else hates: Does the FS fandom even hate anyone? I don’t know,, I don’t think they do? Maybe I just haven’t seen any hate, idk. I had an acquaintance once tell me they didn’t like Green though, idk if that counts. But I adore Green.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: nnnnnobody! Again, I love everyone. I mean... Vaati? Maybe? I prefer Minish Cap Vaati over Four Swords Vaati, I have NO CLUE if that counts or not, but that’s all I can give you, lol.
The character I would totally smooch: Zelda,,, girlboss. Also Erune, she’s really cute,,
The character I’d want to be like: The thing I really like about FS is how flawed a lot of the characters feel. I don’t think I’d want to be like ANY of the Links because they’ve all got their own shit they need to sort out, lol. I think I’d wanna be like Zelda. She seems like she really knows and understands how people work and think. She’s also not afraid to speak her mind. She’s opinionated and won’t let people talk down to her. I find that admirable.
The character I’d slap: Blue, the little shit /j. Actually I wouldn’t slap him but I WOULD watch someone else slap him and I probably wouldn’t feel bad about it. <3 I love him
A pairing that I love: Platonically: SHADOW & BLUE. @adel-memes YOU!! YOU DID THIS TO ME!!! THEY’RE SUCH A GOOD PAIRING! I WOULD DIE FOR THEM!! THEY HAVE MY WHOLE HEART!!! THE UNDERSTANDING! THE ANGST! THE DRAMA! THE BANTER! THE,, THE POTENTIAL THAT THEY HAVE IS JUST,,, AAAAAAAAAAAA. (...anyway Red & Vio also have a really sweet dynamic that I wish I could see more of lol. They should hug)
Romantically: uuuhhhhh. Idk, tbh. Zelda/Erune is a really cute ship that I could get behind. I’ll go with that. Everything else is like,, I don’t mind them romantically but I prefer them platonically. There’s only a select few fics that have made me really appreciate certain pairings as romantic. Vidow especially is one where I don’t really mind either way, I just like Vio and Shadow’s dynamic. But if it gets too romance-focused I don’t usually like it. (Like, I wouldn’t read a Vidow fic, but I would read a fic that has Vidow in the background or as a subplot.) Again, thinking of a couple of very good fics that are exceptions to that. Usually you can win me over with boundless tooth-rotting fluff, lol.
A pairing that I despise: DESPISE is such a STRONG word that I simply refuse to use. I don’t DESPISE any pairing. ...maybe like, any romantic Vaati ones? I don’t really like those. But I also know that those aren’t really popular from what I’ve seen? Sooo... idk.

some blog housekeeping!
just a reminder that i'm trying to tag all four swords posts with "fs," and there's a lot of them, so if you're not interested please consider muting that tag. i'm not sure if there are any other very popular topics that would be abbreviated as fs, but apologize if that's the case.
related more specifically to four swords:
i think it'd be hard at this point to divorce my blog from vidow as a ship, given that it's the main reason i'm interested in the media in the first place. i don't mean to sound standoffish when i say this, but if it makes you uncomfortable, you need to take responsibility for yourself and simply block me. no hard feelings at all, and no conversation necessary. i love interacting with people in the fandom, whether or not they share my shipping preferences, but accept that some people have sensitivities to the ship or the way it's discussed. if that's the case with you, you don't need to personally explain why, especially if that explanation involves judgment or shaming of me or anyone else. i'm just not your kind of person and it's just not your kind of ship, and that's okay!
moving forward, i will continue to tag some of my vidow content under the ship name when i specifically want it seen outside my normal followers/mutuals/whatever. but i won't be tagging the ship every single time i reblog or post something to do with it. please use that information to make the best choice for you.
i'm probably taking this way too seriously, especially since the majority of you guys know what i'm about at this point. thank you for being so welcoming over the past two months—fandom is just one part of my life, but it is something that i treasure, and this fandom in particular has been super creatively healing. since encountering the manga i've been fully allowing myself to bask in the hyperfixation, cringe-free, which is partially why it bothers me when the ethics of my interest are questioned. still, not an excuse to lash out. i'm an adult and i should act like one.
after this explanatory post, i intend to post what i enjoy, how i enjoy it, with the tagging i find appropriate. either you're cool with that or you're not, but this should be more than enough information to help you decide for yourself.

Vidow, 17 pls!
I don’t know which ask list you’re referring to, so I’ll do both!
17. Who prefers the more cinematic attractions that you can just sit, watch, and enjoy (i.e. Small World, PotC, Haunted Mansion), and who prefers the roller coasters? (OTP Questions)
They both love the roller coasters, but Shadow’s scared of the doll-like figures in It’s A Small World because they creep him out. Their favorite ride, though, is the Haunted Mansion. And they whisper everything unrealistic about every ride to each other and eventually just burst into giggles, annoying the other riders.
17. “Follow me. We need to have a chat.” (Writing Prompts)
Shadow grabbed Vio’s arms and pulled him up from the couch. Vio gave him a strange look as Shadow started walking towards the exit. “Follow me. We need to have a chat,” he said. Shadow dragged Vio to a corner of the castle courtyard and they sat down on the wooden bench.
“All right, Shadow, what is it?” Vio asked. Shadow pointed a finger at Vio.
“Have you been sneaking out again?” he asked. Vio blinked.
“What?” Shadow rolled his eyes.
“Come on. I know you well enough to know when you’re lying. You’ve been sneaking out of the castle a lot recently. Why?” he asked again. Vio looked away.
“I don’t want to tell you. It’s a secret,” he muttered. Shadow threw his hands in the air, his hat spiking up with irritation.
“Vio, I’m your boyfriend, why can’t you tell me?” he asked, leaning against the wall.
“Because it’s about you.”
“OH, THAT’S SO MUCH BETTER!” Shadow glared at Vio. “If it’s about me, I have a right to know!”
“No, you don’t, I’m allowed to keep secrets.”
“Not if they’re about ME!”
“Shadow!”
“Vio!”
The two’s shouting match stopped and they sat in silence for a minute. Eventually, Shadow looked back at Vio. “Fine. If you don’t want to tell me why you’re sneaking out every night into town, that’s fine,” he muttered.  Vio rubbed his arm guiltily.
“Sorry, Shadow, but I really can’t tell you. But I will tell you this: It’s something good. You’ll like it, I promise.” he said. Shadow grinned.
“Wait, is it a gift?”
“…Yes.”
“Well, okay, I won’t bother you anymore, then!”
During the next few days, Shadow kept his promise. He didn’t ask about Vio sneaking around anymore, and he didn’t try to eavesdrop on what Vio was whispering about to the others.
On Friday, Vio walked up to Shadow, his hands behind his back. Red was grinning right next to him. “Shadow, you know that I was sneaking around a lot.”
“Yeah.”
“This is why.” Vio held out his hands, and in them was a large, leather-bound journal, painted purple and black. Red grinned wider (if that was possible) and looked at Shadow.
“Open it, Shadow! Vio and I worked on it really hard!” he leaned in. “You better like it, or Vio will be crushed and I will destroy you,” he muttered. Shadow nodded, a bit startled. He opened the journal and his eyes widened. The pages were filled with writings and drawings and other things.
He looked closer as he flipped through it and found that it was filled with stories. Vio’s stories, to be exact. Letters, poems, short stories, travel notes, all of it. The drawings were illustrations to go with some of them, and all of them were amazing.
On the last page, Vio had a loose paper there. Shadow pulled it out and he grinned. It was a picture of him and Vio, sitting on the castle square’s fountain and watching a sunset. It was the most beautiful thing he’d seen, and after a moment of admiring it, he rolled it back up and took another look at the writings.
Then he realized they were not just regular writings, they were all about them. The Links, Zelda, Erune, Rosie, even Vaati (the nice, ghost one. Not the evil eyeball). Most were about the adventures and moments that Shadow and Vio did. The funny, the serious, the happy, the sad, the strange, the perfectly normal.
Shadow closed the journal and stood there for a moment, then lunged forward at Vio and wrapped his arms around him, hugging his boyfriend as tight as he could. Vio’s eyes widened and he smiled, hugging Shadow back.
“So… I take that you liked it?” he asked. Shadow laughed.
“Like it? Vi, I love it! It’s amazing, thank you!” he said. He pulled away from Vio.
“I’m forgiven for hiding this, right?” Vio asked. Shadow stared at the ceiling in fake contemplation.
“Um… Yeah. Definitely.” Shadow said. “Also, that painting at the end is definitely hanging on the wall of my room.”
“You’re keeping it until you die, I guess.”
“Yep!”
There, I hope you liked that! I tried to write lots of fluff, but I don’t know if I’m that good at it, so I would love some feedback! -SV
