i...i wanna say something so honest... i really don't care about a league of their own and most of you don't seem to either. it's a huge hassle organising the episodes because — not to say this for the third time in two sentences — but most people don't care much about it and haven't made the effort to keep it archived. we haven't seen a source for a complete series 6 in, like, 8 years. i'm not going to be making an effort to log that title for the time being. sorry if that's an inconvenience, but feel free to use the resources linked in my faq for your own research!

Linked above is a folder with zip files for each episode of My Life with the Walter Boys Season One. After Sundown (2023)
Synopsis:
Saengrawee has spent his life in the temple with Luang Lung Chanthakorn. When he turns 21, Parit – an old friend of the monk – comes to take him away, to live in Phra Nahkon with Parit’s family. As he settles in the mansion, Rawee starts getting plagued with nightmares, and visions of a ghost. Parit’s grandson, Praphloeng, comes back to Thailand at his parents’ demand. They worry about a prophecy who warns that if Phloeng does not bind his life to a soulmate by the time he turns 25, his life will be in grave danger. Said soulmate can’t be from Phra Nahkon, nor be a woman (according to mdl). Luckily, Rawee fits the bill, and despite their mutual dislike, the two men accept the ceremony. But while they learn to live with each other, and Phloeng’s presence is able to soothe Rawee’s nightmares, the ghost’s apparent grudge against Rawee only seems to deepen …

Non-spoilery review:
It was not a very good movie, all in all. I think it worked with a lot of ideas that, while not necessarily groundbreaking, were good enough to make a nice romance and an interesting horror story. The reluctant soulmates/fake marriage tropes are beloved for a reason, and can make for a compelling journey. The newcomer in the house mysteriously targeted by a ghost that seems to know him is also pretty classic, and when used well can be ground for a good, creepy mystery. The problem here is that imo, the execution was sub-par.
To begin with, the horror is not well integrated to the story. While I liked all the ghost scenes – tense and efficient, and in 720p at night the ghost freaked me the fuck out let me tell you – they were not well integrated into the story. Outside of those specific scenes, there is no sense of something terrifying happening to the main protagonist of the story, he doesn’t seem worried not curious about any of it, focused as he is on his romance.
And that’s where for me, it went from ‘not great’ to ‘not good’. Because with how much time is spent on the romantic parts of the story, I still can’t believe how little development happens. They are reluctant to even be in the same room a moment, and straight up acting like a married couple the next with absolutely nothing to justify this. Zee and NuNew share a lot of soft, romantic scenes, but they felt disconnected from each other, and because there is no showing of their feelings gradually changing those scenes, for me, lacked any emotional impact. That said, the two of them work well together, and the chemistry was chemistring alright when they were on screen. Still, with characters that don’t have a big personality and a scenario that has trouble holding itself together, there is only so much chemistry can do.
So yeah, for me After Sundown failed both as a horror and as a romance movie. I had no emotional investment in anything happening (which also made the reveal/conclusion at the end fall flat), the pacing was not good and actor performances alone (which were mostly good across the board) could not save this one.
Tl;dr: I gave this one 5/10. I would only recommend it if you really really really miss Zee and NuNew and just want to see them act cute with each other while not being bothered by the absence of actual story and the presence of a few good jump scares. Also if you just want to see Nammon wet and shirtless, just skip to 1:12:00 =3
Below the read more, I will go a little more into the reveal at the end, as well as a few pet peeves I got through the movie. It will be full of spoilers.
The reveal about the ghost:
I hated how we got nothing about the ghost during the whole movie except that she thought Rawee was someone else (the monk/his uncle) and wanted to kill him for it, and then 20 minutes before the end you get that huge, 10-minutes long info dumping flashback explaining who she is, what her relation to both the family and Rawee’s uncle is, how she died and why she is so vengeful. My first thought was ‘that’s a movie I would have liked to see’, followed by tons of ideas on how it could have been, you know, actually made part of the movie and not just stacked at the end like an after thought. 1 hour 20 minutes in, and you have no notion that there was a tragedy in that house, that Parit has A Mysterious Past regarding his sppuse, or that the ghost is actually linked to the family in any kind of way. It’s fine if you don’t want the protagonist to find out until the very end, but there should be stuffs to clue us, the audience, in, otherwise the reveal comes and you’re like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ okay I guess. Show us a picture of her in the house, maybe hidden away so we know Something Is Afoot, have some of those final flashbacks interwoven into Rawee’s nightmares (maybe make it so they’re misleading, showing her under a different light). Make the scene where Parit comes to the temple and meet the monk, after all those years, far, far more charged so I can feel that they’re not just old acquaintances but share something so much deeper. That they share both love and guilt. Just mention the fact that Phloeng's father never really knew his mother, that she died when he was small and I don't know, maybe they Don't Talk About Her Anymore. Give me something basically.
Also, at least Parit and Luang Lung Chanthakorn were aware of what was happening/who she was, and no one ever thought of, oh, I don’t know, do something about it? Warn the guys?? Why on earth did the monk say yes to sending Rawee back there knowing what the fuck happened in there and the responsibility he had in it? Come on.
Smaller things and Pet Peeves:
Ok this one is just for, like, random grievances I had with the movie.
First of all, Rawee’s lack of curiosity. You don’t have to make him an amateur detective, but that guy who grew up in a temple (so I assume at least a little spiritual) starts having nightmares and visions and doesn’t question it for a second? Doesn’t think oh, maybe there is something going on, maybe if I find out what the spirit wants and why, I could get rid of it? Nothing? I know my own curiosity is probably skewing my opinion but I wanted to shake him and beg him to ask even one goddamn question! Please!!
The “secondary couple”. Okay, so, this one ties up more to the romance aspect of things. We set up Pudson to be a sort of rival to Rawee, the spurned, jealous boy who hates the one who took Phloeng away, but there is never… I mean I’m pretty sure we never see him and Phloeng in a scene together, even, and all of this amount to nothing. Never actually hurts Rawee, never confronts him or tries to actually get Phloeng, this never leads to any tensions between Rawee and Phloeng… Then Kraiphop, the chauffeur, who is being so nice to Rawee and who makes Phloeng jealous once. Less of an actual rival to Phloeng, he’s presented more like a kind man who might help Phloeng realizes that he actually like Rawee. But the jealousy scene happens after we have seen them basically act chummy and nice to each other so it doesn’t work either. And then!! 35 minutes before the end, we get thrown a bone that oh maybe Kraiphop actually kinda likes Pudson, who may fall too, but that’s so brief, and then completely left hanging, I don’t see the point of having those characters. And I say that when it gives us Nammon shirtless and wet, so you can imagine…
Finally, and those are both the smallest and the most annoying of all (alright I might push it a little). That single voiceover we have maybe a third in?? There is that breakfast moment where Rawee’s voice says something along the line of ‘uh, since I sleep by Phloeng’s side the nightmares are gone and then there is never EVER another voiceover during the whole movie? Could you not have found another way to show not tell this? This irked me so bad lol
And then, MDL tells me it’s supposed to happen in 1961, and while the (very cool) car Phloeng rides seems to agree, the rest of the aesthetic screams Khun Chai to me (not just because it’s the same house I swear) which is 1942-something so like … two decades earlier. It’s not a lot but it added some confusion post viewing I guess.

Hey svenja you got any tips for keeping gifs really nice and crisp while trying to color them? The color always seems to ruin the quality for me. As well as uploading to tumblr lol
hello <3 i do have some tips, although it really depends on what the issue is: are the gifs blurry? too grainy? do the colors look washed out and weird after saving? but, in general, some things to keep in mind:
keep the number of adjustment layers to a minimum (i'd say below 10)
brightness adjustment is, to me, enemy number one. the more you play around with that the worse the quality will get; this is unavoidable depending on what you're working with.
we only have 256 individual colors available when making gifs; the more complex a gif is color-wise, the more might be lost during export, where photoshop will optimize it for web and may alter the look slightly (or a lot)
THAT SAID, it's not just about the colors. if anyone else is interested, here are some important aspects that will affect the end result:
sharpening settings: it's still a mystery to me how some people manage to make their gifs look so good, but i think i've got it figured out for the most part (300%/0.4px or 500%/0.3px)? it takes some playing around. the entire gif quality relies on this (the settings may have to be adjusted after coloring)
the resolution of your video file: i would highly discourage anyone from trying to work with 720p video files because that's setting yourself up for failure, especially when making 540px-wide gifs.
the scene itself: when i tell you the number of times i gave up and closed photoshop because i could not for the life of me get a scene to look right because it was horribly lit (or out of focus)-- we are completely at the show's mercy here. making certain scenes look good isn't impossible, but it will never be perfectly clear because it can't be. and that's alright!
the thing about uploading to tumblr. i hear this issue talked about a lot, but i haven't actually experienced it myself; i also never see the issue on other people's edits. what i have found is that sometimes, for some reason, the gifs are worse quality for a little while only on the device on which they're uploaded. i had this issue, but when i checked it on a different computer it looked fine. so maybe that's what's happening.

the world in the viewers eyes shift the narrative to the way Gumball misinterprets the life of Carmen if she never had it, Carmen is living in Gumball's expectations before she is the only one in the school thinking of what the actual heart in heaven would look like. Nothing like you would think but Gumball doesn't exist when you are Gumball watching Carmen's life as if you were trying to fix your own mistakes but does not want to tell you off, so Bocquelet tells off the heartbreaker's heart to be (you can say everything is satanic but the satanism doesn't exist when he just exemplifies the status quo in understanding what 2 people do when they are alone together)
happy couples reunite... but CN hates happy couples apart and where is all the love going to? :(
lackadaisical upbringing. makes sense if he tries to communicate to his lover that way since he doesn't need any reprimands of the highest order

🦋 - hi! If u can't recall, I was the anon who asked you about gifmaking before.
I know some of the raw videos of jannik/tennis in general may or may not have good video resolution. But your end-result of your gifs are usually sharpened but not that grainy either. How do you usually adjust your gifs' adjustments when it comes to low quality videos? Bcs your gifset tends to be in 540px wide, so it makes me wonder as well how you retain/enhance the quality of the gifs. I hope I delivered my question well 😂
i remember u omg hiiii! now i may have gone a little overboard on details here under the cut but i suppose you’ll appreciate it anyway haha
disclaimer, for a lot of these settings, i can’t remember where i first found them but i had seen them used in gif tutorials when i was just learning how to make them. i’ve basically stuck with these ever since!
so join me as i go through the process of making this jannik gif (exclusive content, never before seen on my blog, etc etc):
okay so first of all, ofc as much as possible i try to get the best quality version even if the video itself is bad. like, if it’s on streaming i would screen record but otherwise i try to download the original file. it makes the end result much better imo
i generally go for 540px width bc i read somewhere that that’s the ideal size for tumblr gifs. if the cropped video is smaller than that or needs to be portrait oriented, i would usually just put two gifs side by side (like in this gifset) bc it’s better than trying to resize it bigger
but when a source video is around 720p, i can generally work with it! so here’s a sample that i trimmed from a fairly low quality jannik video from youtube. he's presumably on webcam here, which explains the bluriness
i loaded it in using video frames as layers. this pic shows it already cropped on my photoshop, with a frame delay set to 0.08 (my personal default, which i realized after everything was saved was still too fast for my liking but oh well i’m not redoing it):
as you can see on the bottom left corner, it still has a width slightly over 540px. so then i can proceed with the next step: resizing. what i do is go to the image tab and select image resizing, which brings up this window:
i change only the width to what i want (in this case 540px) and i use bicubic (smooth gradients) resampling
when that’s done, i convert to video timeline on the timeline window. then i select all the layers on the layers window and convert into smart object
now we can move on to sharpening! under the filter tab, i select sharpen and then smart sharpen. that gets this window to open up:
my presets have the amount at 500%, reduce noise at 0%, and remove gaussian blur. as for the radius, that depends on the video. by default i have it set to 0.5px, but i change it as needed. in this case, since it’s a close-up of jannik’s face, i feel comfortable using 0.8px (my highest setting). usually, if the video is shot from afar, i use something lower like 0.3px or 0.4px. i tend to find that oversharpening some really blurry videos makes them look worse, so i prefer to keep it looking a bit blurry if i really have to. thankfully, in our case right now jannik looks fine with high sharpening!
then i adjust the color and lighting as i wish. i would say that creating more contrast between the black and white levels of the gif helps it to appear sharper! though personally, i just like having more vibrant and contrast-y gifs so yeah
the final important thing happens when i save it. here are my settings in the save for web window:
i set max colors to 256, color reduction to selective, and dither to pattern. the last bit there is what i think is most important for keeping my gifs looking non-grainy! i looooove pattern dither, and i find that the other settings do make my gifs look more grainy so i never use them
and that’s it!! this is the process i use for all my gifs tbh, the main thing i play with for low quality ones is cropping and resizing + the smart sharpening radius

I read some of the articles you linked and really enjoyed them (I just so happened to have finished Omkara a few days ago, so it was interesting to dig into that review, and it was nice to get the full context on Tarak and RC's families where before I had only heard 'both sons from acting dynasties'. Crazy too to read about Chiranjeevi's impact! I'm still halfway through that one). I'm happy to see you back around!
oh <333💞 I'm so glad you enjoyed those too! Baradwaj Rangan (although I don't always agree with him) is my favourite film critic along with Sucharita Tyagi when it comes to Hindi films. He's also great to read for South Indian cinema as well (he used to work at Film Companion South). Omkara is such an interesting film, I watched it in 720p on YouTube in 2020 for the first time and it's only now that I'm seeing it on streaming. It's a very sexy and almost gothic film film i love ! I was on my spn blog this whole time lol, I like to alternate between this one and that <3

I have re-encoded the videos I took the 1080p videos from youtube and turned it into 720p as on youtube there were the black bars at the side.
Note that I am currently re-locating and had done the entire subbing project and encoding on a small laptop which is why this took me a while to do, I have not optimised the filesize it is a bit bigger than what I wouldve liked but not too bad.
I may redo the videos in the future but it will not change the viewing experience (just change the filesize).

a note on why we shouldn’t trust business majors with the arts:
only people who did a degree in business would look at the advent (as I was there in the mid 2000s when suiting up with a tricorn hat and sailing the digital seas was the style at the time) of torrenting and online piracy as a BAD THING tm
“but unmotivational-motivation, aren’t you encouraging the stealing of BREAD DIRECTLY from the MOUTHS of authors of creative works?!” You might be asking, you ravishing simpleton.
yes, but ONLY if you did what the business majors working at the IP hoarding gentry companies did when this situation arose; and try to only suggest official releases. Previous to the internet and widespread card payment processing (even then the RIAA used to argue that taping from the radio to make your own mixtapes was killing recording) you had to put some effort into making copies of things, like reverse engineering the stamps for vinyl records (which incidentally was how a lot of western music ended up being distributed in east of the iron curtain. See bone records for more info) and there was no way to compensate the artists (assuming they paid back their advance) except by mailing “paper” (it’s actually cotton) money or writing out this thing called a cheque (or check if you use freedom units called ironically imperial) to the film distributor or record label.
now we have: card payment processing that’s, for a given value of safe, safe for online usage. See the problem at this point is the IP hoarding gentry see a problem where you have some money that’s theirs that you’re not: giving to them, in the process of giving to them, or having given to them and about to give them more. They want to have all of the money as opposed to just some of it. This is a core concept of shareholder capitalism as well as wanting stable, infinite growth. So the idea of giving up the control of (theoretically) selling you ownership of a copy of their work and being able to set the price and have all the money is a problem. You can see this in the current media landscape where taking a gamble on something exciting and new and might be a big hit BUT IT COULD ALSO FAIL, is replaced by making the same slop on a regular basis. Hello Disney.
a slightly less brain damaged individual would look at the rise of piracy, and see a few positives: 1 no distribution costs 2 your market is significantly expanded and 3 a more consistent revenue stream IF YOU DID THINGS correctly.
a sane rights holder would look at piracy and go: what’s the easiest way I can make so people can pay for a license to make it legal? There are people existing with terabytes of plunder from the digital seas. It takes around 1,200 720p movies to fill a terabyte. You guilt one person to pay $5 for 100 movies over a few months and suddenly these lost sales (which have next to no overhead for their distribution) has just earnt you $500, which after processing fees would probs be around $491 assuming 0.3% in fees. Not every download will be a sale, but I bet it’d be a better hit rate than a retail setting.
dead or orphaned or unavable media? Never heard of her or her siblings. Shit seeding? Try again. Spending millions on digital rights management? Well that’s gone as well. Need info on what to green light? Here’s what’s making money boss, in real time. Want extras? Our physical media still exists. Want to share with a friend and they like it and want their own license? Hey look they can get license for the file they already have the same fucking way.
And suddenly you’ve also turned what was a huge existential issue to your company in the capitalist sense and turned it into a solid positive. In fact this how a SURPRISING amount of band camp works.

I also have a hate boner for IP law, as the life of the author + 120 years is an absurd length of time for an idea being unable to be remixed, reused, repurposed by the public because you have exclusive use over it. Sure the drums from when the levee breaks sound amazing. It was also recorded in the 1970s, are you telling me that song is still worth the same as new music? I would prefer artists make a living, by being able and motivated to be artists. The Doug Anthony all stars have some of the best comedy music in history and it’s next to impossible to legally obtain their works. I WANT TO GIVE THEM MONEY BUT I DONT HAVE A WAY TO PURCHASE THEIR PRODUCT. with what I term project reconcile, I fucking could. And then I would pay to mail this to people as a troll.
Also in the US, for something like close to 40 years hasn’t had IP enter the public domain, thanks to Mickey-fucking-Mouse (thanks Disney!). Copyright should be by default 20 years, with an option to extend for 20 more in ten year increments. If you haven’t made a return on investment plus a profit in that time frame I have bad news for you kiddo.

this video… ok i watched it just now and it’s, like. pretty good. tbf i was watching on 720p. but like. ok so the story goes we were on a night out in chicago, trying to hit a bunch of the gay bars/clubs, we were in this one that was playing pretty good music (not weird dj sludge like in another one we went to. actual songs) (no offense to djs, djs can be great, djing is great, but i think a lot of djs just take a bunch of songs and make them all sound the same… the one i’m talking about was like that) & projecting the music videos on the walls, & i’d had a couple drinks & i was having an ok time & we were on the dance floor thinking about leaving soon & id just had a lot of fun singing along to boss bitch & they played this song & id heard it only once before because it had come out recently & i hadn’t seen the video before and i was. transfixed. dua continues to be the most beautiful woman on earth. this video concept is pretty simple & kinda ballsy because you have to actually be as beautiful as you’re saying you are, & it works for her. love her sm

Messy Thoughts on Life is Strange - Episode 1
I think it'd be interesting to keep a log of the games I've been playing (at least till I feel the urge to write on my dusty ass journal that I've had since 2016). tbh this shit will be for me. idk who'd be interested in the thoughts of a remastered version of a game from 2015.
anyway, I'm working my way up from the 1st life is strange to true colours (the only Life is Strange game I haven't played. I know close to nothing abt it. I know that Steph is there, it's about empathy, and the protagonist is gay though that's a given... it's Life is Strange)
still thinking about episode 1's ending. I finished it a couple of hours ago.
I am playing the remaster and I've dealt with a couple of annoying glitches but nothing awful. for some odd reason the screen blacked out during a cutscene (ending cutscene by the lighthouse w Chloe) and idk the screen got weirdly pixalated. like it was in 720p.. maybe I got something wrong w my eyes lmao
I accidentally broke the game in the beginning. I misremembered the the rewind mechanic and thought I could rewind to ANY point in a cutscene. but nah, you gotta stick to a specific point marked by the swirly thing up top.
when I made this mistake, I was in Jefferson's class. Max gained telerportation and invisibility powers and was able to teleport her desk to behind Jefferson.
actually, maybe it wasn't a glitch. maybe Mad Max was trying to intimidate him but sadly, wasn't aware that her teleportation powers came with the caveat of turning her invisible as no one noticed her. oh well
also the UI keeps glitching out. I'll look at an object, select an action and the game will get a little confused and the UI will disappear. I'll try to get a screenshot of that. and Mad Max's tp powers though I think she'll retire those.
I also forgot how dark this game is. maybe bc I'm 18 I'm finally understanding the true impact of certain matters. For example, Juliet Watson (I GOT HER LAST NAME RIGHT FIRST TRY I KNOW THIS GAME LIKE THE BACK OF MY HAND) has a fucking abortion?? she's a high schooler (ill just HOPE she's 18) and she considered keeping the child dude (she had a maternity book in her dorm). I do like the amount of thought that was put into character's rooms. Juliet's book is so incredibly easy to miss but it adds to much to this relatively unimportant NPC.
I forgot how much of a... creep David is. I COMPLETELY forgot he had cameras set up *inside* the house. I forgot he slaps Chloe too??? dude.
I do like how Rachel Amber's set up. she's so incredibly mysterious. the way others speak of her make it seem like she's an elusive myth. an untouchable goddess. to Chloe, she's an angel.
maybe it's nostalgia speaking but it really brings me back to waht the fandom was then. especially how crazy everyone went when we met her in Before the Storm.
further, it really emphasises the sort of town Arcadia Bay is. it's a small little town. everyone knows everyone here for better and for worse. Arcadia Bay feels cozy and lived in and im excited to rediscover it when i play episode two tonight.
