every look troy baker (as james) sent david was so incredibly well acted. you knew exactly what he was thinking as soon as he saw david lay his eyes on ellie for the first time. you saw it again when he left him with her in the battered cabin, and when he carried her off back to their resort. he knew exactly what was going to happen but he didn’t know how to get out of it without him being murdered for it. we saw james go to shoot ellie, and i doubt it was for vengeance, he would’ve been saving her. and he knew that david didn’t care for him, we saw that once ellie murdered him, david didn’t give james a second thought because ellie was his priority. just phenomenal.

I have so much I want to say about the new episode.. so much I want to say about everything in general. And I think one day I can. But all I can offer is.. each episode exceeds my expectations and makes me say “this is my new favorite one.” That’s good storytelling, folks. The things people are talking about outside the show, the things that we’re being shown and told by the characters… these are the reasons The Last of Us, and especially Ellie, means as much as it/she does to me. This is why

if you loved episode 3 of tlou you really should listen to the official podcast with troy baker, craig mazin and neil druckmann because there’s SO much! here’s some of my favorite things said on the podcast:
- joel stacking rocks was to show that he missed and mourned tess. in that moment he was saying “i’m sorry, i blew it, i lost you.”
- in the beginning of the episode ellie told joel tess’ death wasn’t her fault but deep down she does feel like it was her fault.
- ellie admires joel because he protected her multiple times and as a child she has a desire for a parental figure to protect her.
- frank realized bill was gay pretty much as soon as he got out of the hole and saw how bill was looking at him. bill’s taking in how handsome frank is and “frank’s brain is incredibly attuned to that.” that’s why frank was smiling.
- frank realized bill was gay fast, but he realized he wanted bill when bill was playing the piano and singing linda ronstadt.
- it took them a while to find long long time by linda ronstadt but they always intended the song for bill to sing to be about a long love that was forever unrequited. “it was very important that the lyrics were someone saying ‘everyone tells me that it’s okay, that love will find me [...],’ no it doesn’t, no it’s not, and the person that i long for from afar - i’m gonna love them basically forever in the most unrequited manner.”
- it was important that frank immediately knew bill’s sexuality because frank SAW bill, because bill had completely buried his sexuality but frank saw through him.
- frank originally was trying to see what he could get out of bill (like a free lunch) but the more time they spent together, the more he went “oh, this is a beautiful person.”
- “there is two ways of loving things. frank wants to love outwards - he is sun, he is light. he wants to make things beautiful around him, he wants to care for bill, he wants to revitalize the streets so it’s not just this mausoleum bill lives in, and he wants to have friends. he wants to share what they have. and bill wants to put an electrified fence around them that is guarded by an additional layer of flame-throwing gas pipes and no one can show up ever because he must protect frank from the world... and as it turns out, both of those loved are required but one of those loves is likely to give you in trouble more than the other.”
- when frank put his finger on the furniture piece and saw how dusty it was, he realized what his purpose could be in bill’s life. bill can protect them, but frank can nurture their home.
- when bill apologizes to frank for growing old fast, it’s because he’s afraid of frank being left alone. “look at this beautiful man and the beautiful things that he does, and what is bill’s contribution? bill doesn’t grow strawberries. bill’s contribution is to keep frank alive. but bill is already afraid that he’s going to fail and that is a fear that joel has because he has that fear through experience [of losing his daughter.]“
- bill and joel understand each other and that they’re purpose is to protect others. they don’t care about their own lives.
- on their last day together, bill decided very early that he was going to die as well.
- the gun that ellie takes belonged to frank.
- that letter bill wrote reminded joel that he failed to protect both sarah and tess. the letter underscores for him that no matter how hard he tries, he can’t protect the people that he cares about. but now he has ellie to protect.

What Turned me Gay: The first BGeast match I purchased - Troy & Brian Baker v Vinny Trevino & Joshua Goodman (bgeast.com)
It's no secret that Bgeast turned me gay. The combination of hot men in compromising situations, muscles straining, humiliating holds; all summed up to ignite something inside of me.  Now while all of that is worth a post in itself, I wanted to devote this time to rekindle a memory specifically about the first Bgeast match I watched, Tag Team Torture 3.
What turned me gay (not really) ...
Tumblr media
Troy & Brian Baker v Vinny Trevino & Joshua Goodman (bgeast.com)
This post, inspired by the sidelineland.com blog, takes a tongue and cheek look into "what made me gay (not really)" and in thinking about the topic of gay wrestling, it's helpful to go back to the beginning - at least my beginning as a gay wrestling fan.
The Background Now, when I first viewed Tag Team Torture 3, I had no idea what to expect.  Sure I had watched porn before, but the default for porn back then (and now) was a cheesy few minutes of story line followed by emotionless hard core action.  In those scenes the guys refused eye contact with each other, closed their eyes, and probably thought of their girlfriends or something while they did the deed so in a very big way, bgeast was different.
Tumblr media
Baker and Baker - two reasons why I purchased this match.  Beefier Brian and Tasty Troy.
Tumblr media
In hindsight, I love the Backstreet Boy Look on Mr. Joshua.  This was a very popular look back then - Highlights and a Soul Patch.
And boy was Tag Team Torture 3 different, from the opening scene I realized that the focus was on the wrestling and everything, from the guys lifting weights, to the trash talk; all of this led up to struggle between men.
Tumblr media
Troy and Brian bonding before the match.  They build each other up saying stuff in the tone of 'you're the best, no you're the best'.  They support and encourage each other ... at least for now.
Tumblr media
Compare that to the other team, bragging about how much they can bench or talking shit about their opponents the "beach boys".  There's no building anyone up here, simply tearing the pretty boys down.
In lieu of porn which hurried to climax and rushed to "get the job done", gay wrestling highlighted the emotions exchanged between our guys and what is sex really except a bundle of intense emotions.
The Action Finally, 20 minutes in the guys start to wrestle.  I told you that gay wrestling takes it's time and slowly savors each and every popping bicep and ab and now we have the Troy Baker reveal and boy was it worth the wait...
Tumblr media
Troy knows what we're all here for.
Tumblr media
And later, Troy swooning over himself.  The man and I are on the same wave length when it comes to admiring that body.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But all that muscle just begs to be abused.
Brian Baker is the powerhouse but he can't fight off two men by himself and it's clear that Troy is more interested in himself than on the match.
Tumblr media
Mr. Joshua multitasking by dominating and making his infamous "adjustment".  I love how the back of his hand goes straight from his package to smacking Brian on the back of his head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brian: [exasperated]: Lookout Troy!
Tumblr media
Vinny: You like that surfer boy?  Troy: *Moan*
The Finale At this point our heroes are done for.  All that camaraderie, the hours at the gym spent sculpting those muscles, all of that vanishes and we are left with a beaten Troy Baker.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To further the point, our heels double team the helpless Troy while his brother watches on.  Further emphasizing that there is no coming back from this one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Troy's abs of steel are put to the test with yet another barrage of abuse.  That golden tan is starting to turn a shade of pink as even those abs of steel have their limits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the real crescendo for this match comes at the end.  When Brian seems to triumph despite the odds and an upset looks possible, that is until a weakened Troy folds under our heels.  It's that moment followed by a betrayal when our gay wrestling saga is complete and the Baker Brothers are finally broken with sound and fury.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In hindsight it's obvious to see why gay wrestling sucked me in and became my obsession.  I've always loved the emotional highs when I wrestled in high school and bgeast perfectly captured those stories of struggle and dominance multiplied by like 1,000.   You see this story, told through sweat and humiliation is so vivid, so real, that the feelings I get now from watching a 20 year old tag team match are the same as when I first saw them and  is undoubtedly what turned me gay (not really).

Diamond Ring | Simon “Ghost” Riley x F!Reader
a/n: this song is loosely based off of the song “Diamond Ring” by Window To The Abbey. if simon riley were to ever sing, he would sing like troy baker - warm and gravelly.
warnings: NANNY!READER (not yet wife ):) mentions of children.
summary: “Wear it on your hand, tell the whole world that I’m your only man.” Simon dodged death so closely that it finally snapped him from his stupor - he needed you to be in his life for the rest of time.

Tumblr media
On the drive home from base, it seemed like Simon could finally breathe. He could relax into his seat and drive home to see his little family, eat dinner and sleep in a real bed with no worries.
But no. Simon’s hand wrung his steering wheel as he dialed your father’s phone number, praying he would answer. He wasn’t sure what time it was over in Maine, but he knew it would’ve been near the morning. He glanced over to your favorite takeout in his passenger seat, heart clenching in a way he’s never felt before - it hurt his healing chest wounds, injuries that almost took him away from you. If he focused hard enough, he could remember how he fought so hard to get back to the helicopter, clutching his chest and wheezing as Price pulled him in.
“Hello?”
The voice had startled Simon out of his mind, he instantly replied, “Mr. Seresin.”
“Simon Riley! How are you, buddy? I haven’t heard from you in a while.” Your father chuckled a little before continuing, “How’s my little girl? Everything going alright between the two of you?”
Simon bit his tongue for just a moment before saying, “Everything is great, Mr. Seresin. I’m returning from a deployment right now and-“
“Oh! How was it? I hope you weren’t injured!” The man on the line chuckled again, Simon remembered him to be a bubbly man, always interrupting. It would have irritated him if he wasn’t so nervous about what he was going to ask him.
Simon cleared his throat, tapping his non-driving foot on the floor of his SUV. “I have something to ask you.”
The man paused, Simon could tell because he didn’t talk for a moment. “You’re not kicking her out, are you?”
Simon’s eyebrows furrowed, slowing his SUV down to stop at a red light. “What? No.”
“Well, it must be-“
“I’m asking for your permission to marry your daughter, sir.”
Silence. The light turned green and he began to drive again, he almost felt like punching his window.
“…You’re serious?”
Simon let out a silent breath, relieved and thankful. “Very, sir.”
“How much do you love her?”
He didn’t even think about it. “I’d carve my heart out if she asked, sir.”
“Oh, quit it with the sir, you’re going to be my son-in-law!” Mr. Seresin beamed through the phone, it was like his smile was able to be seen through the voice call.
Simon’s face lit up, he let out a relived breath. “Really?”
“My daughter loves you, son. And I can see that how much you love her has changed her for the better, I’m just not sure how her brothers are going to take it… They are very protective of her. Oh goodness, Simon, I’ve got to call my wife!” The man excitedly laughed again. “You are a wonderful man, Simon Riley. Welcome to the family.”
“Thank you, Mr. Seresin.”
“I hope she says yes, knowing her? She definitely will.” His almost father-in-law laughed again. “I’ll letcha go, I’m calling my wife. Good luck, son.”
The call ended before he was able to thank him again, his heart rate still high as now all he had to worry about was what you would say.
You were everything to him. You loved him without fear, unlike others he’s been with before. You gracefully took his broken glass and carefully set each part down, gluing them and holding him together. Others have tried, putting his pieces together but unable to fit them where they went, cracking and shattering them more. You weren’t scared of his past, scared of what happened to his family. You gave him love to show him that having a family isn’t going to hurt anything, that he didn’t need to beg for love to receive it.
He loved Winnie’s mother, he had come to that conclusion weeks after the first moment he held his daughter in his arms. Weeks after he had buried Grace de Havilland, the last person he cared for since his family had died. The person who comforted him yet still couldn’t fit the right pieces together, the woman he had loved after her death and until he realized that he was really in love with you. Grace was close to putting the pieces together, but you had already repaired him in half the time and put effort into him. Sometimes he wondered if she would like you, if she was okay with how you were raising her daughter.
He turned into his street and his hands tightened around the steering wheel again, he could feel his hands trembling.
What if you said no? Were you even ready to go this next step? Was he?
He pulled into his driveway, the fifteen minutes had flown by. He put the car in park, looking to the passenger seat at the bag of takeaway food. It was your favorite place that was conveniently near base, but he knew you almost never had a chance to go because of Winnie.
Was he ready to get out of his car? Yes. Was he ready to ask you the only question he’s been thinking of for months?
———
Simon toed off his shoes, the door was already closed behind him and he could knew Winnie was in bed; her favorite toys were strewn across the front room and towards the kitchen, food bag on his hand as he slid his phone into his pocket. He could hear some sort of music playing in the kitchen and you’re humming.
He entered the kitchen, watching at you were kneeled down, picking up Winnie’s disaster made of toys. He settled the bag onto the island, digging into his pocket and pulling out the piece of jewelry he spent so long looking for in his storage locker - his grandmother’s wedding ring. His mom’s mom, the woman he vaguely remembered dancing with in her dusty living room. He looked down at the ring in his hand, taking it between his index finger and thumb.
“Y/N.”
You turned to him, hands full of toys. You looked beautiful, even in his sweatshirt and an old pair of sweatpants. Your eyes looked down at his hand, where the ring sat in between his fingers.
“Marry me.”
“No, no no.” Your voice trembled, eyes wide and staring at the ring in his hand. Caught absolutely off guard.
Everything stood still for Simon, his heart teetering on a ledge, about to tumble down, down, down and shatter everything. What did you mean no?
“No?” His voice was small.
“No no!” You shook your hands, dropping Winnie’s green bear onto the kitchen counter before taking a breath, collecting yourself. “Not no- You caught me off guard, you-“ Your hands went to your face, trying to calm yourself but just blurting out, “Yes, Simon. I mean yes.” You walked towards him, almost tripping over Winnie’s toys as your hands soon found purchase on his cheeks. “Yes.”
“Good,” He mumbled before crashing his chapped lips to yours.

There is something about Joel, but especially about Pedro Pascal`s portrayal of Joel, that feels so fragile. Sure he`s a tough guy, we know he`s done horrible things, he knows how to survive and what a cost of survival is. Yet, there are those moments, when his face softens almost imperceptibly and you can see the pain of his loss clear and fresh as if it happened yesterday. He moves on quickly, but no matter how much posturing he does, there is no way to hide the fact that at his core he is a father, a protector and a deeply loving man.
There is a quote from Fleabag that has stuck with me for a long time (minor spoilers for Fleabag season 2, I guess?). In season 2 Fleabag talks about her late mom and she says to her friend: “I don’t know what to do with it. With all the love I have for her. I don’t know where to put it now.” It makes me think about Joel. We know that he had Sarah when he was only 22, there are also clues that Sarah`s mom left their family picture pretty early on. Yet, I think he`s settled into parenting with ease, it came naturally to him and he was really good at it. Life must have been very difficult at the beginning, being a young single father, working to support himself and his tiny daughter, he must`ve struggled a lot! But being a dad? Loving Sarah? That was always the easy part.
Sarah was Joel`s whole world and he was ready to love his daughter thought 10 of her lifetimes. He wanted to love her though high school and college. He wanted to love her as she grew into a young women finding her place in life, love her as she got her first job and walked down the aisle. He was ready for that love to multiply as he became grandpa Joel. And one day in far future, when he was no longer there, he`d leave her with a legacy of that love, a gift that she could keep and share and build upon.
Instead that love became a shroud.
In that moment time stopped for Joel. He adapted and did whatever he had to do to survive, but he was no longer interested in anything else. Living was for that time from before, living was with Sarah. And I think he would`ve carried on like that until he met his fate one way or another. Instead, by a stupid twist of fate, he ended up with a kid in his care. And he hated it, he wanted no part of it, because he knew. Some part of him knew from the very beginning. So he did his best to treat her like cargo and keep his distance, but she got under his skin and fast. There was something about this loudmouth, swearing, pun-loving energetic kid, this singularity of a person. She could see right through him and that terrified him. He tried so hard not to care, to run away from that connection, but when she asked him to stay, becasue with him she felt safe, he couldn’t help it. It happened despite of himself, despite all the conflict, panic and fear. It was hard and they`ve struggled a lot, but loving Ellie? Taking care of Ellie? That was the easy part.
We can argue about morality of Joel`s decision until we are blue in the face, but one thing we can probably all agree on is the inevitability of it. That decision has been made long before they`d set foot in that hospital. Joel knows the pain of losing a daughter and he`d do anything to never to feel that pain again. And I really believe he wouldn’t have survived losing Ellie, it would, quite literally, break his heart. And that is the selfish part of his choice. But I understood recently, that there is also a selfless part to it. One that is all about Ellie. It was about ensuring her future, because he sees Ellie not as a potential savior for humanity, but as a full person. Person with dreams, planes, hobbies and aspirations. Troy Baker, once said in the podcast about Joel: “He saved the world, it’s just the world was that little girl.” His girl, his daughter, who wanted to become an astronaut, learn to swim, learn to play the guitar and read every Savage Starlight comic. And he believed this is worth saving, she`s worth saving. And he saves her, knowing full well he would have to live with the consequences of this choice, suffer through them. But he has no regrets, he would`ve done it all over again, because she got to live and that means everything.
In Fleabag (same warning applies) after Fleabag says: “I don’t know what to do with it. With all the love I have for her. I don’t know where to put it now”, her friend responds: “I`ll take it. No, I`m serious, it sounds lovely. I`ll have it, you have to give it to me”.

What do you think about Joker and Batman’s story in the Arkham Games?
Oh I think it's great. Arkhamverse Batjokes is one of my favorite iterations of the dynamic. Starting from Arkham Origins and how they have Joker begin to be truly obsessed with Batman only after Batman saves his life multiple times-- even though it didn't make any sense, even though any rational person would've let Joker die. There's just something so compelling about Joker being so self-destructive and careless from the start, latching onto the one person acting against all he believes. Because Joker thinks he deserves to die, and doesn't try to avoid it (more like actively encourages it). But then Batman keeps saving that life of his he doesn't value, again and again... It's pretty similar to what happens in the comics, too: Joker seeing Batman as a distraction or a pest to his main plan, and then Batman doing something so out of the ordinary that Joker becomes obsessed. It's just more condensed, more obvious in the game.
youtube
"Now, why? Why? Why would you do that? Newsflash: I'm the one who's trying to kill you!" I adore Troy Baker's performance, and the sheer frustration in Joker's voice. Just love this whole scene so fucking much. Joker putting the gun to his head and Bruce's sheer... trauma and inability to witness death kicking into gear, having him instantly jump to stop Joker despite the fact he killed two people seconds before, but then punching him in the face. Genius.
Though I think the most interesting thing about Arkhamverse Batjokes is that Joker dies. It's one of the few mediums to explore in depth what would happen to Bruce afterwards, how he'd cope with it... with the answer being "badly". Both in-game and in comics or novels set in the universe, it's explicitly stated either by Bruce or by other characters that he's mourning. And he doesn't understand it. Then you've got the fact he's hallucinating Joker, and Joker's taking over his mind. In many ways it's similar to the backstory of the Batman Who Laughs; getting infected by blood/toxin after Joker's death and becoming an amalgamation of himself and Joker. Except, in the Arkham games, Bruce manages to stop the transformation. And no matter how you interpret it: the Joker in Bruce's mind being the real Joker, or Joker being a figment of his imagination fuelled by the tainted blood in his system acting to Jokerize him the way it did the others-- it's still so telling, the way it all unfolds. At the end of Arkham Knight, Bruce still doesn't kill Joker, not even when Joker isn't real. What we get, as a way of symbolizing Joker's defeat and Bruce regaining control over himself, is Joker being shoved into a cell and shouting "I need you". And how many times has Bruce put Joker in a cell before? How many times has Joker broken out of it? That isn't really the ending... there is no ending for the two of them.
God, and I didn't even mention Joker's songs, him performing Only You, the phonecalls to Bruce, the interviews in Arkham... the incredible voice acting from Kevin Conroy (he'll always be remembered, and always be Batman to me) and Mark Hamill... so many great elements. Not gonna keep ranting, but yeah! Arkamverse Batjokes is my second favorite after the comics.
