it’s me again. new Taylor swift album. ssk thoughts?

first, i woke up at 4:30 in the morning to listen to this album the moment it came out. And I WAS going through it thinking about skk when I wasn't bawling my eyes out over certain lyrics that were personal attacks

I do want to take a moment to talk about the actual album itself on its own for a moment just because omfg i love it, and something I really liked with tpd in comparison to more of her recent albums, is the music seems very simple, with a focus on lyricism, which had always been a theme with her music, that the lyrics are more important, but it just. It's so well done here.

Also, there's a very nice mix between the synth pop of midnights, and the more acoustic vibes from folklore and evermore in this album, when i listened to the first song i thought the whole album was going to have that same vibe, and was very pleasantly surprised at the first piano track.

Also a lot of the lyrics are very reminiscent of her earlier albums, thinking speak now and fearless. it feels most obvious with i can do it with a broken heart and who's afraid of little old me- which by the way, based off the title I thought i would HATE whos afraid of little old me, but i actually really like it??? like it's a very 'cringe' phrase, it's made fun of mercilessly, but it works surprisingly well.

The songs all seem to have an earlier album they could tie back to, with the same vibes or styles of lyrics, and it's so nice to listen to while thinking of what it could possibly tie back to.

This definitely isn't my favourite album, i was expecting something different i think, but it's still really good, and there are quite a few really good songs on it. guilty as sin? and clara bow are my personal favourites i think :3

But I would like to direct your attention to the second song on the album, 'The Tortured Poets Department'

I LOVE a title drop in a song, it drives me insane for real, and i actually screamed. But more importantly, in reference to this, it is VERY skk to me, like I listened to it and instantly was thinking of how i was going to reference this song in an au some day.

But imo, this song is 100% Chuuya pov skk and well the autism is working overtime so I will be doing an analysis I'm so sorry this is what I'm using my time for but AUGH brainrot im sorry i have interests

'You left your typewriter at my apartment' - starting off by mentioning that this is what i thought of when considering references, because im a sucker for writer skk, and i thought a really cool thing would be Dazai leaving a typewriter behind when he left for some reason, and then Chuuya picking it up and eventually using it, especially with one of the following lines being 'who uses a typewriter anyway?', something he used to judge Dazai for then becoming something he does himself is just *polite clapping* i love it and I will be giving dazai a typewriter at somepoint

'But you're in self sabotage mode, throwing spikes down on the road' - Dazai is very mentally ill, and likely does self sabotage, ESPECIALLY if it were to be his relationship with Chuuya, his bandages are an allegory for the fact that he doesn't let anyone see below the surface of his personality, and that does go for Chuuya as well. He doesn't allow for that kind of vulnerability and in all likelihood, if he were to end up in a situation where he did need to be vulnerable, he'd self sabotage and try and fuck it up just to get out of that situation. However, there's also the next lines;

'But I've seen this episode and still love the show, who else decodes you?' - which is to say that regardless of the 'episode' dazai would be having in that moment, chuuya would still love him, and can decode him to understand what he is doing, which is a VERY skk thing, being able to decode what the other is thinking when they do things, and their intentions. He would be able to work out what was going on, and be able to work things out.

'And who's gonna hold you like me? And who's going to know you, if not me?' - skk have that insane bond that they don't have with anyone else, they know each other better than anyone else, and they both probably know it, regardless of whether they admit it or not, and (don't attack me im a multishipper) they're genuinely unmatched as a duo, there's not another team with either of them that are stronger than the two of them together. Nobody is going to know them the way that they know each other, it's just impossible given how close they had to be, and the environment they were in. The entire Dazai makes Chuuya feel human and Chuuya makes Dazai feel alive thing. As the post chorus says, nobody will do it the same.

'I scratch your head, you fall asleep, like a tattooed golden retriever' - rare moments of vulnerability my beloved, but my specific picking of this line is Dazai's constant insistence that Chuuya is his dog, while frequently behaving in a way(esp ada dazai) that would be more suited to a golden retriever. There's also something I want to say here about the comparison to a dog, by a person he loves. But it is canon that Dazai at the very least does not like dogs, and in fanon he is frequently portrayed as afraid of them.

Here, this could be translated as it being a metaphor, Dazai being vulnerable like a dog, something he is scared of/hates. He isn't just scared of dogs, he's scared of vulnerability in any form, and comparing him to a dog when he is like that would be to emphasise that point, that he hates them both. This also opens the implication that Chuuya is aware of both of these fears.

But he is like a dog, and being vulnerable, and in that moment, he would be exactly what he hates most, his is everything he hates. And Chuuya loves him anyway, despite knowing how much he hates himself. And he makes himself vulnerable around Chuuya, regardless of how much he's scared of it.

'Sometimes i wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me' - this lyric makes me think of concerns about Dazai leaving again after they reunite at 22, perhaps Chuuya's own concerns of getting too comfortable only for one of their many issues to come and blow everything up in their faces, like how in a earlier lyric the relationship in the song is referred to as a cyclone, the fear is that it gets out of control, even if they know what they're doing, or trying to do.

'But you had told Lucy you'd kys if i ever leave, and i said the same to jack so i felt seen' - oh boy toxic co-dependency time. skk are so co-dependent it's literally insane, their lives often genuinely rest in each others hands, not even mentioning whatever the fuck went on in mersault. From Chuuya relying on Dazai to nullify corruption, to Chuuya being the reason Dazai decided to try living a little in 15, there have been multiple instances in which if it wasn't for the other they would be dead. They trust each other with their lives, and could very easily end up in a state where if one were to leave, the other would make an attempt on their own life (moreso dazai than chuuya, but it really could go either way).

'Everyone we know understands why it's meant to be, cause we're crazy, so tell me, who else is gonna know me?' - Anything else aside, skk are fucking insane. they deserve each other just so they don't bring danger to literally anyone else they interact with. They're insane, especially around/about each other, and again, they're the only ones who fully understand each other. Dazai is the only one left from during stormbringer as well, which is think is important to mention. Dazai was there during sb and the dragons head conflict, both times that Chuuya's friends were killed, if anyone was going to understand how he might have felt after that experience, or what happened, it would be Dazai. They understand each other in ways others would never manage.

'At dinner, you take my ring off my middle finger, and put it on the one people put wedding rings on, and that's the closest I've come to my heart exploding' - skk are literally married guys. dating six years, married four years, divorced eight times and broken up 52, but also never stopped dating and are best friends who plan how to kill the other for fun. They're married, but they're also not, but also their souls are tied together in ways not made for the human brain to comprehend. This feels very much like domestic skk fic interactions and i'm 100% here for it.

Anyway, this song is very skk coded and I love it so much, tell me why i spent an hour on this. I don't think this was what you were looking for but... this is what you got. If you want me to go through any other songs like this then i'll do it. I love skk and taylor swift so much i can't even think like im afaifiegbi im pretty sure taylor has a tumblr account so there is like a 0.0000001% she would see this and that has me... panicking but anyway :D i have lots of thoughts all the time and thank you for indulging me with this ask i NEEDED to get this out of my system before i exploded!!!

I think the colors and vibes meshed together so perfectly well. I love how Elyden looks in ozzy's style. He's so handsome and his hair is so AUGH <3 <3 <3 <3 I loved drawing Rakell, what a handsome old man with the fruitest beard <3 (my friends peer pressured me to make his uh. chest pop out)

MY SPECIAL LITTLE GUY MY BLORBO LOVE OF MY LIFE. i am insane about him. he is the character of all time

My first impression: huh. i don't know what's going on here but he seems interesting and competent.

My impression now: i would kill and die for him. he is my favorite character in mdzs and one of my favorites EVER. he has so many layers!! a-yao....

Favorite thing about that character: he's COMPETENT. to an absolutely insane degree. learning what he did about cultivation from shitty useless manuals and forming a golden core as an older teenager/young adult takes an INSANE amount of talent, not to mention HENSHENG??? he is the only (named?) character to have a soft sword, he's adapted bits of fighting styles from multiple major sects, and he's skilled enough with Hensheng that at some point he has shattered multiple spiritual weapons with it. he was a spy under WEN FUCKING RUOHAN for months. he and wwx are entirely responsible for winning the sunshot campaign and he dealt the final blow. also what he did with the song of turmoil?? equally insane amount of talent.

Least favorite thing: the Bad TakesTM. he attracts them like FLIES

Favorite line/scene: Lan Xichen! In this life, I’ve lied countless times, killed countless times. Like you said, I killed my father, my brother, my wife, my son, my teacher, my friend—of all the evil in the world, what haven’t I done?!...But I’ve never even thought of harming you!

i am very normal about them.

honestly his entire Guanyin Temple showing is nuts in the best way and i am chewing on him. close seconds are him on the stairs of Jinlintai looking at Nie Mingjue and going, of course they and I are different! the utter RESIGNATION of it. the truth of it!! he will never be treated like the rest of the cultivation world, he knows it, and Mingjue can't see it like he does!

Favorite interaction that character has with another: every time he and xichen are on screen or on page together is just. so nuts. the box scene. guanyin temple (god!!!!!!!!!! augh). everything cql added in.

A character that I wish that character would interact with more: Qin Su!! she needs more time anyway but god their relationship is SO TRAGIC and i love looking at AUs where the whole marriage can be avoided and there aren't lasting scars left on both jgy and qs from. you know. accidentally marrying your half sibling because your shared father is a rapist. also, we get zero real looks at how their relationship is before everything goes south and it pains me.

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: this is so fucking hard oh my god. there are bits of He Xuan and Ling Wen that i see in him, i think? especially the. "i was born the same day as you and i am cleverer than you but my life was a tragedy and yours was perfect, so why was I not worthy of the same fate you were? why did I get nothing when you got everything?" and the "you know what? I am tired of cleaning up your messes. i am going to cause problems now." he also... i cannot explain this one but his vibes are very similar to Alexander of Tirragen from the Song of the Lioness quartet in my mind. i genuinely truly cannot comprehend WHY those two are associated in my brain, but they are.

A headcanon about that character: he was in love with Xichen and Xichen was in love with him. god bless the cql xiyao agenda.

A song that reminds of that character: lying beast by run river north - it reminds me very much of what he would think of himself esp. towards the end (and guanyin temple)

An unpopular opinion about that character: he and Mingjue's relationship could not have been fixed, or at least not without considerable effort on Mingjue's part, post-Sunshot and especially around the time of the stairs before JGY starts playing turmoil. JGY did not need to put more effort into it! he was already putting effort into it! Mingjue's worldview is fundamentally incompatible with JGY's existence, frankly. It never mattered how hard he tried to mend the relationship because Mingjue would always see him as a liar who was trying to manipulate him, and the sworn brotherhood was not a good idea, Xichen, good god.

Favorite picture: all of them but especially these. i support his wrongs (he has never done anything wrong ever in his life). he is the prettiest man alive and yet!! he suffers! but oh god his thousand yard stare after Mingjue kicks him down the stairs...

oh maaaannnn there’s a lot. what inspires me most is the fact that if i don’t draw or create regularly i turn evil <3 (thats mostly a joke, but i do get very irritable if i dont have some kind of creative outlet haha)

but here’s a too-long list of things that have rewritten my brain chemistry 🥰 dont take this as a list of reccs because some of these are 100% not for everyone LOL

for movies,

the alien franchise (except three fuck 3), the thing, 2001: ASO, colossus: the forbin project, videodrome, and mad god have all done irreparable psychic damage to me. if you can handle it, pleaaaaseeeeee watch mad god. absolutely gorgeous movie. i wish i looked like the assassin (shoutout 2 data for showing me it)

electric dreams is also good but it feels weird sliding it between those other reccs 😭 the tonal whiplash

for books,

house of leaves, obviously. absolutely disorienting narrative that was very fun to pick through and jump around. johnny’s sections are some of my favorite pieces of character writing, and i adore how the text and formatting turns the book into a labyrinth. my only complaint is figuring out similar things in css is HARD.

things have gotten worse since we last spoke is a disgusting novella (said with the utmost affection). its not something i can recommend to most people because it deals with some sickening topics, but it def shaped my love of horror

ihnmaims and tuf voyaging are two short story collections i read when i was far too young, and still enjoy today. also colossus the forbin project (the book). good 👍

the locked tomb series! what else is there to say but Jod Damn! alecto please

for games,

marathon trilogy! me when the ai have issues disorder🥰🫶 it can be difficult to play (use walkthroughs or mods to make things a little easier if you arent in the mood to be frustrated), but its worth it imo. shotgun and mousetrap if you even care btw

cecile richard and kitty horrorshow have been integralllll to my artistic development. cycles and gutless by cecile is the reason I started writing in twine, actually. still some of my favorite works :^)

disco elysium is amazing but everyone knows that. i think making readers feel uncomfortable and kind of pathetic is good, actually.

scorn is like. absolutely gorgeous. the game plays awful imo but its worth it for the eyecandy of lovingly crafted biomechanical horror. i got the art book as a gift and now it permanently resides on my desk.

signalis is a recent one but i watched my friend play through some of it and am itching to try it because AUGH. the vibes are immaculate (even if some of the combat is annoying hehe). @ that one anon who sent me a signalis recc, YOU WERE RIGHT. IT IS 100% MY KIND OF THING

there’s a LOTTT more, many of my inspirations i often forget about because i have an awful memory. i approach a lot of media consumption with the intent of “what can i learn from this?” (both narratively and mechanically) and fucking loooooveeee deconstructing things i enjoy. my toys 🥰

Hmmmm. Well, the Pages asks were interesting. Going for a character you haven't talked about much: Topsy King, 1, 9, 11, 25

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Victorian lit has a complicated relationship with mental health and the concept of “madness.” I like that The Topsy King, while definitely styled like a “quirky madman,” has motivations, makes choices, and is comprehensible. You just gotta translate it.

9. Could you be roommates with this character?

We’d fight too much over storage space. Weirdly enough, we’d both want it for cramming paintings into. His stolen oil-medium goodies and my would-be watercolor masterpieces.

11. Would you date this character?

Are you kidding? I’m not in his league.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

I thought he was great! Got the best of the Fagin vibes without the unfortunate stuff. The rhyming slang was charming, and you gotta love a guy with an eye for fine art.

Learning his backstory definitely grabbed me by the heart. He’s still living and thriving by his new terms, but augh. He can never be who he was. And even when his mind wanders, it hurts him. Augh.

i read a lot of danmei and i've only seen what you call jiang-cheng-style discourse in comment sections of ongoing works or translations; generally, it's not something people seem to fixate on so much, even in similarly romance/tragedy stories. maybe in mdzs setting and side characters are just developed enough to matter, but never enough to impact the romance as in romeo and juliet. it might be a balancing issue, where she was experimenting with those things?

This ask was in response to a question from quite a bit ago, so I'm sorry for the delay in response, anon! This is interesting to know, and I'm inclined to agree that MXTX was trying something new there. The vibe I get from MXTX's other works is that the secondary characters all kind of have their own things going on. It's not that they have zero relationship to the protagonist and/or the love interest, but they don't have profound, longstanding significance to each other within the plot itself in quite the same way. The characters who do have history with and continued influence to the protagonist seem to usually be villains (whose importance must be overcome as both an internal and external conflict) or are the love interests themselves (whose importance is central to the relationship).

And then there's Jiang Cheng, who's undeniably important to Wei Wuxian, but he is neither a villain to be defeated nor the love interest (and in fact doesn't get along with the love interest! he is competition with the love interest for the protagonist's emotional space and attention!). If it's unusual for a character to occupy narrative role like that, I can see why fans would either love it or hate it! It's like "wow! yay! something new and interesting!" or it's "augh! no! something I didn't think I was signing up for!"

uhhhh standard disclaimer that all of this is conjecture, but that would make sense to me!

Responding to insults/being bullied

well dañarte is a certified Little Bitch, however part of his Thing is that hes pretending to Not be a Little Bitch, so i think it's all based on the circumstance of who is around and all that. if it's in public, he will probably go the route of pretending that he's above a Petty, childish dispute 😌 but inside he IS planning revenge and also trying to blow them up with his mind. and then if he's not trying to mask his bitch boy powers he's def being snarky and passive aggressive and maybe also just straight up rude right back. he will NOT be the bigger person!!! and he does not care what people think about him.

char on the other hand is a certified Good Boy klfjdsjkfl I think he would try to be more civil with whoever's coming at him. like Oh Surely This Is A Misunderstanding Let's Talk This Out kind of deal lol. he's more of a people pleaser I think, so he might be more willing to agree to disagree and move on. i do think he'd take insults to heart tho and probably spend too much time sitting alone and Thinking About It. FESTERING.

Fidel! awoowoo boy. i think at first he might be like, sad puppy dog eyes mode, but if they keep pushing or cut too deep he might get more riled up and ready to throw down about it. and then go sulk after.

Responding to being challenged to a duel / fighting style

hmmm i think both char and dañarte are trained in fencing so if it's something like that, they might accept - oh and i guess also the magic thing. they do magic in this game. magic duels. yeah sure theyll do that too LOL. i'm thinking about those pomefiore PICK UP THE GLOVE npc guys fkdlsjfkdsl i think they would accept whatever the hell's going on there too LOL. char might attempt to reason or de-escalate first, but would ultimately accept if the person insisted, and dañarte might just go right into it lol. because he is a SHOW OFF!!!!! i am unsure how good they are but i think they'd both be at least decently skilled. they probs both have a bit of elegance to their fighting and are likely similar to each other since they grew up together as cousins, and probably learned a lot of their initial magic schooling and fencing and shit together. that and they were both rsa boys before dañarte goes to nrc.

fidel i think could get easily worked up and baited into it but since he's a first year i think he's less refined with his skills and maybe wouldnt do so well, but if it gets physical he's a Big Boy and could accidentally knock over the other person via sheer force of mass lol.

guest room trouble lines

god i still love that twst added a feature where characters just randomly get so pissed they beat the shit out of each other JKLFDJSLFKHSD

so I like that the characters get two lines, and a lot of the time they give the vibe of like one line where they more apologize and maybe admit fault, and another where theyre more defensive, depending on the person lol. so im going to give them each TWO!!!! if i accidentally subconsciously copy one of the lines just. leave me alone jkljfdsklfjds sometimes a bitch is generic!!

Hey.Was wondering on your thoughts on Puss in Boots 2 if you’ve seen it yet? I was fully expect the dog to be an annoying side character yet he became an easy fav.

i literally ADORED pibtlw and it was incredibly well done 10/fucking 10 movie. the style and the framing and the variable framerate for high speed action for clarity AUGH its so good

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS ON PERRITO i was so worried he would suck but he's such a good character and a great foil to Puss and i love him. also the way they handled puss having a full out panic attack was so respectful and good and that perrito is a therapy dog and that they both have opposite outlooks on life despite everything they've both been through....le cry

also the parallel between puss' found family in perrito and kitty and goldy's found family in the three bears.....crying in the club. the fact that perrito and goldy were both in the same spot bc they fill the same role i was like ohhghh my god. son

kitty softpaws is also always great. her vibes are impeccable as per ushe. and they handled the whole misunderstanding plot with her without it turning cliche or annoying. i love that they left each other at the altar because. real. and i love their relationship and their romance is very well done and ough...they r divorced and in love

really love how Cat puss was. like that was a whole Kitty. he acted so much like a cat in this one. fantastic. and antonio banderas' voice is so good

i think jack horner was fun. love when characters are just completely reprehensible. no redeemable qualities. he just fucking sucks. and he doesnt even have a reason to.

and how can i talk abt pibtlw without bringing up death? god he was cool as hell. i loooove how they designed him and animated him when he swings his sickles around and they clink together. so ominous. and he LANDED A HIT and there was BLOOD! and he was in the background all that time! death literally lurks behind every corner! fuckin A, dude!!

anyway yeah good movie tied itself up real nice at the end solid fucking 10/10 made me want to eat drywall

we've seen sectonia, wave 3, and kirby—do you have any other kirby gijinkas to share? (no pressure i swear)

ahhh. the fated question. i, in fact, DO have other gijinkas! they’re incomplete and lack ‘official’ references, but they’re far along enough that i can share them!

exhibit a: this embarrassingly lazy and half-hearted attempt at a gijinka of marx

(if i’m right,) i drew this last year with my initial concepts for wave 3. he didn’t really give me the right vibes though, so i dropped his design pretty fast. i felt like i wasn’t getting his personality displayed in the right way, and the design itself didn’t exactly feel like marx.

exhibit b: a genuine yet abandoned attempt at dedede

the goal of my dedede design was to actually try a different body type out for once (particularly that of certain wrestlers) which went sort of well! i managed to break the bulkier body down into simple initial shapes for me to start with. i don't exactly remember why i lost steam on this one...

exhibit c: WHY IS JORONIA SUCH A STRUGGLE TO DESIGN??

augh. yeah. both of these are incomplete because the designs i came up with for her REALLY didn't feel like they fit her. the concept and process for the first one was a bit maddening, too, since it was SUPPOSED to a reflection of sectonia in the shattered glass. not a lot of thought went into that one.

the second one, however, feels a bit closer to what i want. i can't quite describe the fashion style, but i distinctly remember choosing to give her a black shirt instead of a white shirt so that she didn't match taranza's design too much. in this case, the black is supposed to represent her height in the social hierarchy as a monarch. the red is supposed to match her cape in her original design and also symbolise her ever-flowing love for her kingdom and its denizens.

why did i just analyse my own stuff. naurrr.

i remember redesigning my marx gijinka on scrap paper but that's probably gone, and i have a few galactas lying around but idrk about the quality of them. hopefully sometime in the near future these three will get solid designs and refs from me, but for now they reside in limbo!!

Omg so I didn't watch the anime, but I read the manga all the way through and I hold it very dearly to my heart so it's awesome seeing one of my favorite artists also into it. I love how this series really pushes beyond the boundaries of gender and sexuality norms...Haruhi is an androgynous icon

And the style can fit both boys at once honestly with the way it jumps around, even voice-wise

And even the slower, more... reflective? newer songs work pretty well for both of them!

Robin helps Steve to get out of Hawkins. She is the one who manages to get Steve to see that he doesn't have to sacrifice his whole life for everyone else, and that he's allowed to be his own person

unpopular opinion

I don't really like when fics make Robin like Steve's gay mentor? She's just as lost as him like she says it all the time in the show that she has no idea what she's doing and she's terrified of being outed, so I think that making her like all knowledgeable takes away from some of that........

Oh god I'm going to say the one people will disagree with. I don't like Ronance. If anyone ever treated my Robin the way Nancy has treated Steve I would NEVER act on any romantic thoughts I had on them. I think Ronance can be done well and in an interesting way, but in general I don't like them and the idea that Steve is just super cool with them is....a choice for sure
