Yall know the scene in those ‘coming of age’ movies, where the family is having dinner, and the dad points out that new boy to his daughter with the subtly of a freight train. And he says something about him being a good kid, that he’s talented, and then ends with something that directly aligns with what the daughter likes?

Yes. That’s concept, but it’s dinner with Spock and his parents. And Sarek is under the impression that Spock is with Kirk (not wrong), and is trying to convince him that the doctor is a better option(wrong, because he’s also dating McCoy)

“Doctor McCoy is very talented. He’s recived awards for his work I’ve heard.”

“Yes father, he excelled as a doctor before he had joined starfleet as well.”

“He also saved my life, and your own countless times”

“Yes, as was his duty as Chief Medical Officer of the Enterprise”

Vulcans purr when they sleep comfortably or if they're very relaxed-- but they don't let anyone know that because it's considered a very private thing. In fact, Amanda didn't know until about eight months into her relationship with Sarek, when they were cuddling for the first time and she felt that soft, gentle rumble coming from his chest. Sarek got embarrassed and refused to speak about it, but throughout their marriage she would occasionally hear the sound and it made her quite happy.

Interestingly enough, Vulcan's likewise hiss when they're angry. It's a bit rare to see because of their emotional control, but if you get a Vulcan really pissed off there's a good chance it'll happen. The first time they'd gotten into a real argument, Sarek got flustered and started hissing-- and Amanda tried so hard not to laugh, she really did!! She couldn't help it, though. They had to stop arguing so she could catch her breath.

Jim actually heard Spock purr for the first time while he was doing a complicated math problem at his station. It was a slow day on the bridge, so Jim sat there and listened for a while, just enjoying his presence. Spock never really noticed, but even well into their marriage he thinks about that day all the time.

He hadn't heard Spock hiss until the kal-if-fee, though. It was a subtle noise, just barely audible as he was pressed into the sand... But he heard it. It made it a lot harder to focus but... Oh, he heard it.

I’ve seen some confusion as to why the chapter on Jim in The Autobiography of Mr. Spock is rather short. And because I love this book and would like to encourage Spock fans to read it (bc it is genuinely touching and has some lovely character moments), I want to offer up a possible answer to that.

I’m going to compare a couple passages from the novel in order to answer this. I would first like to bring to your attention this passage from the chapter on Sarek:

In the passage it is referring to what is essentially Sarek’s own autobiography (the t’san a‘lat) and it talks about how it contains no mention of Sarek’s family in the account. The t’san a’lat is meant to be a completely honest document, but how can you honestly and fully express the significance that people you loved have had on your life?

I think that Spock has this interpretation about Sarek not writing about Amanda or their children in part because Spock now finds himself in a similar position. Spock is now writing about the people he loved most in his own autobiography, and he is encountering this problem that Sarek chose to avoid in his writing. I think it is safe to say that writing about Jim is particularly difficult for Spock.

In this passage from the chapter on Jim, there are quite a few parallels with what Spock says about Sarek’s autobiography:

Namely, that the people they love most are at the heart of the account, that they do not know how to outwardly express how significant their loved ones were to them, and their hesitancy/refusal to write about their loved ones at all.

Essentially, the reason the chapter on Jim is comparably short is because Spock wishes to protect his love for Jim and keep what they meant to one another private (as well as Spock clearly still grieving over Jim’s loss and wanting to experience that privately as well). He is also not sure how to write about a person that, in many ways, is at the center of his life. It is not from lack of regard that Spock writes less of Jim, but instead that his regard for Jim is so strong that mere words could not summarize what the man meant to him.

idea for your vulcan/human ships: vulcan partner doesn't need as much sleep as their human. they wake hours before their partner does, readying for their morning meditation. they come back to their bedroom to find the human sprawled out on the bed. they've kicked the covers off, a leg hanging off the edge of the bed. the vulcan makes sure they don't fall out, tucking their limbs back in place. the human shivers at a chill breeze flowing through the room. the vulcan makes sure their partner is covered, bringing the blanket up to their chin. they watch as the human smiles in their sleep, sensing a wave of contentment and love flow through their bond.

The star trek I've seen has only really focused on the negatives but i think it would be really nice to date or be in a relationship with a vulcan. Like the idea of someone that wants to be with you not due to a feeling but due to a well thought out logical choice? Someone who came to the decision of wanting to stay with you because they thought it was the wisest course of action? Weak at the knees. To me I find putting genuine thought and consideration and then picking someone is far more romantic than doing it based off feeling. Sign me the fuck up. Sarek and Amanda were fucking LIVING

DISCO 1x06 “Lethe” is genius because they took “Sarek got mad at Spock for not choosing the Vulcan Science Academy” and made Sarek somehow both more sympathetic (because he was forced to choose between his kids) and more of a bitch about it (because that man cannot communicate with his children if it kills him) and I love it for that

Sarek & Amanda’s First Date: Let’s meet up after work. Do you want to get a drink? This bar’s a bit loud. Do you want to chill at a coffee shop? Sure, sure. For some reason, I have grown incredibly fond of Vulcans.

And it doesn't matter if they're well known

Absolutely adorable for whatever reason

Or petty assholes that are way to obsessed over a human from their youth.

However, come what may, non of them will ever be able to outdo my undying love for this gorgeous man

I am obsessed with headcanons about Spock's childhood- The dynamics between Amanda, Sarek, Micheal, Spock and Sybok are just AMAZING because they're all such complex characters and give me so much happiness by themselves, but actually seeing them as a family??? Eating dinner??? Doing family stuff together??? I'm going to die because of how heartwarming it all is
