you know what part of stand tall that makes me want to cry in a good way every time i hear it????
the second verse where julie sings “hands down can’t let myself forget it no, cause everything is rushing in fast, keep holding on never look back” in the higher part
AH like you just feel the mix of emotions julie’s going through bc this song is something she wrote with her mom and she thinks she’s lost the boys forever and there’s a sense of pain in that line when she sings it. like, i really miss her and i’m going to miss them too, but ultimately its supposed to be an happy and inspiering line and you still feel that. there’s also a sense of like, i’m going to keep on pushing though bc this is somehting that i love with my entire being and the boys helped me get here and i know she’s proud of me
and just how madi sings it??? like how my gosh she puts so much emotion into the whole song but there’s something about how the notes are different than the first verse that makes me lose it every time

Happy Juke Jeudi! I wanted to list a few juke Christmas themed fics for this Juke Jeudi for anyone that might be interested. I got a little help from @missjoolee and @preoccupied-educator. I’ve read most of these but not all. The following are listed in word count/size order, shortest to longest.
links under the cut
Peppermint and Chocolate   by  sanssssastark  rated T
He’s wanted to kiss Julie since he was thirteen years old and waiting three years to kiss someone leads to expectations of what that kiss might be like. Turns out, it was way better than every fantasy he ever had. Her lips were soft and warm and her hand clutched at his arm, curling around his bicep and he wished he’d worn a shirt without sleeves because he’d have given anything to feel her touch against his skin. The kiss was everything he imagined it would be.
He just never thought it would leave him this confused.
Christmas lodge by darylvdixon not rated but it’s G
Julie and Luke meet when both their families book to spend Christmas in a lodge on the mountains. It's love at first sight and they spend the whole of their holidays together.
Let Your Heart Be Light by MamiRugbee rated T
With Christmas approaching, Julie decides she wants to pay a visit to Emily Patterson. Unfortunately, Luke realizes things aren’t exactly how he remembers them.
call me babe for the weekend by blushandbooks rated M (and locked for ao3 members)
Julie Molina, Grammy-winning popstar and reluctant Seattle native, returns home to her family and old friends for Christmas - and also to escape rumors and drama back in Los Angeles.
Old friends include Luke Patterson: The ex-boyfriend she left behind for LA and the promise of a blossoming music career. Only, the music career is not what she wanted it to be, and Los Angeles has turned from a welcome escape to an unlikely prison, and the only place she wants to run to is the place (and the person) that knows her best.
At the end of the day, she'll just run back to LA and forget about Seattle all over again.
But the city, and Luke, have more of a grip on her than she expected.
Blame It On the Mistletoe by Courty rated T
In the two years since they met, Julie and Luke have been dancing around the connection between them, both too afraid they'll ruin the other's life they've worked so hard to build.
Good thing they have some friends who decide a little Christmas magic is in order.

all i want for christmas is you by ruzekhalstead rated T
when julie finds herself in a situation where she needs luke to come home with her to celebrate christmas with her family, he is more than happy to oblige. too bad julie's already in love with him, and not sure when she stopped pretending.
holiday au
"the entire family is getting together for christmas and she just assumed i was bringing my boyfriend and then when i tried to explain, she mentioned you by name and i just kind of blanked and basically, my whole family thinks you're my boyfriend and you're coming to spend christmas with me."
"cool. when do we leave?"

Ladder to the Stars: A Juke Christmas Story by SeaStarStories rated T
Julie books a quiet winter retreat, but a typo has her turning up at the wrong cabin. Then a major snowstorm forces her to stay with Luke, whether she likes it or not. The problem is she likes it.

'Tis the Damn Season (hear me out) by IMaketheMonsters rated M
There’s nothing like coming home the week of Christmas and discovering you’re still in love with a worm-eater.
OR: the Home for the Holidays!AU that no one asked for
those cold December nights by Labyrinthinee rated M
Sure, Luke's life hadn’t turned out exactly how he wanted it to.
If anybody had told his eighteen-year-old self, that ten years down the road, he’d spent a Friday evening at his friend’s home, not on stage at some shady club, rocking his heart out, Luke would’ve never believed them. But, he couldn’t say that he was unhappy. He had a good job, amazing friends and was invited to dinner at his parents’ place once a week. So, to be frank, he wouldn’t change a thing.
Of course, that's when Julie Molina stumbled back into his life.

the lucky one (i think it might be you) by itsagamefortwo rated T
“So you know who I am then,” it’s not really a question but Luke shrugs anyway, turning to glance at her quickly before looking back at the road.
“And you know who I am,” he pauses so long Julie thinks that’s all he’ll say on the matter but then he speaks again, and she can just make out the hints of a smile through the shadows on his face, “Reggie posts a lot on instagram stories. You’re in a lot of them.”
“I recognised your hat. From your christmas card,” she offers and feels her own lips pulling into a smile at his bark of laughter.   aka julie needs to get the hell out of la for a few days and finds herself in a small town with a familiar face just as a snow storm rolls in.

While You Were Sleeping by ICanSpellConfusionWithAK rated T
AU of the romcom While You Were Sleeping.
Julie doesn't have a lot going for her other than her fantasies about Nick, the cute guy she sees at work and her dreams of marrying him one day. When she saves his life only for him to end up in a coma with his family thinking she's actually his fiancee things get really complicated really fast. They get even more complicated once she meets his brother Luke and the two start to fall for each other. Julie just needs to wait for Nick to wake up and get back to her normal life only things are never that simple. It's time for Julie to decide what...and who...she really wants.

Merry Ex-Mas by Bluefire510 rated T
The one thing Julie Molina hates more than Christmas is Luke Patterson, her former boyfriend and current pain in the ass.
But when her little brother and his best friend embark on a journey to the North Pole for Operation: Save Santa, she's forced to team up with her ex to wrangle them back home in time for Christmas.
It goes as well as expected...
Inspired by the book 'Ex-Mas' written by Kate Brian.

Yeah @innytoes has captured me with fae magic and now I'm hooked on her Kidnapped by the Fae AU so... I'm sorry.
Alex couldn't sleep. Like he actually physically couldn't fall asleep. Everyone else had gone to bed hours ago. Even Willie had drifted off on the couch, their breaths coming out in little adorable hums. But Alex couldn't drift off, no matter how hard he tried.
When he closed his eyes, all he could see were the dark trees, the twinkling lights, the swirling figures, the constant demands for faster, Faster, FASTER! as his hands flew over the drums. And his own body, helpless to do anything but obey. To serve his master. With pure devotion and without question.
Each time the fae went to sleep, Alex never could. The feeling of suddenly having control of his own limbs was too odd. Too unfamiliar. Too much.
And now it was like that all the time. If he wanted to stand up, he could. If he wanted to stay exactly where he was, no invisible strings stopped him. It was incredible. It was freeing. It was terrifying.
Because with no one to tell him what to do and where to go, no intangible hand on the back of his neck directing him, how could he know if he was doing it right?
The Molinas had been kind so far. They'd allowed them to live in their garage, eat their food, even loaned them some of the father's old clothes to wear. They'd shown them the magic of new technology, though that wasn't always the smoothest lesson. Alex grimaced at the memory of when sparks had suddenly begun to fly from the microwave because Luke had put that...tinfoil? stuff inside with his food. The Molinas had been upset but hadn't hurt them over it. They'd been kind. But the fae had been kind at first too.
At first, Alex had wondered if he'd died, alone in the forest, and was in some form of afterlife. He was offered food and fine clothing and music by the effervescent beings that inhabited this new plane. They'd enjoyed his drumming and hadn't seemed to mind when his eyes drifted to a young man with dark hair and a smile that made Alex's heart skip a beat.
They had been kind and welcoming to him. Until he made a mistake.
Things changed after that. Who was to say that wouldn't happen again? That the Molinas wouldn't run out of patience with him and he wouldn't become a prisoner and an outcast yet again.
Alex knew it would happen. It had happened with his first two homes, why not this one? So if he wanted to stay here, with his family and his lover, he couldn't make any mistakes. Couldn't give them any reason to throw him away like the used toy he was. But how could he know what was wrong if no one was directing his every move?
He couldn't. So he was doomed.
"Alex?"
Alex jumped, almost losing his footing on the dark tiles of the house roof. He whirled around to see Julie, the girl who had first found them, staring at him through an open, second-story window.
"What are you doing out on the roof?" she asked, blinking rapidly.
Oh. Well, this must be it. Alex thought he could hold out a bit longer.
"I'm so sorry, I know I shouldn't be on the house," he said quickly, holding out hope that maybe she would at least let him stay till morning. "I couldn't sleep and I didn't want to wake anyone and I knew there weren't any bedrooms around here so I just... I'm sorry-"
"Woah, slow down," Julie said, cutting him before he could say anything else. "No need to be sorry, you're not doing anything wrong, I just... wasn't expecting to see you sitting on the roof of my house at 3 am."
"Oh," Alex said, because he wasn't sure what else to say. She wasn't upset?
"Also, I know you have the whole-" Julie waved a hand around helplessly, "-magic thing going on, but hanging out on the roof isn't exactly the safest spot."
Alex shrugged. "I didn't think anyone would care," he replied honestly. Willie might be a little sad if he fell off the roof and broke his neck, but they'd get over it. There were so many people in the world to love, Willie wouldn't be alone for long.
Julie frowned. "Of course we would care if you got hurt," she said, like it was the simplest thing in the world. "You did see how freaked my dad got the other day when Reggie burned himself on the stove, right?" She took a deep breath, then added, "You guys may not have come into our lives in a very...traditional way, but you're family now."
Alex was helpless to do anything but stare at her. Because, well, 'family' by blood wasn't something he had much respect for, but the way she said it felt more like when Luke called them that, back before they escaped. Like it actually meant something real.
"Note to self, Alex has even bigger trust issues than I thought," Julie muttered around a yawn. Then she offered him a hand. "Come on, we can crash on the couches downstairs and watch a movie or something. Just chill out for a bit."
It felt like a trap. A personal invitation into someone's space had always been a trap in the fae realm. But...maybe that wasn't how it was here? At least not with Julie?
Alex bit his lip, but accepted her hand and clambered in through the open window.
"Come on, I need to show you Dirty Dancing," Julie decided, keeping hold of his hand as she closed the window and led him downstairs. "I think you'll love it!"
And Alex did. Or at least he loved the first 30 minutes of it that he was awake for.

'tis the damn season (write this down)
For your consideration: some JatP Christmas fics
Summaries included below, check AO3 tags for more information
where the lovelight gleams by @bananakarenina
Julie Molina, one of the biggest popstars on the planet, is spending the month of December in New York City to promote her new Christmas album and a huge Christmas Eve concert at Madison Square Garden. Her team has hired her a personal driver for the whole month--Reggie Peters. Julie's struggling with losing her creativity and passion, while Reggie is struggling with just trying to make rent in the big city; he hasn't been really creative in years. Can the two of them find their way back to music before Christmas comes? What else will they find along the way? (Love. Obviously the answer is love.)
you could call me 'babe' for the weekend by @locketletters
“Look, there's no way my parents are going to buy the fact that you’re my boyfriend.” Luke crosses his arms, brows furrowing, “What’s that supposed to mean?” in which luke goes home with alex for he holidays as a pretend boyfriend, and leaves with him as a real one.

There's only one thing Julie wants for Christmas.
Haunted Holidays by @invisibleraven
JatP Advent ficlets 2023!
Our Luxury (A Love Like Stars) by @psyduckappears, @daintyduck99
“So, I bought a ring,” Luke says, casual in the way that usually Reggie would realize is nowhere near casual and much closer to freaking out, but he’s a little busy choking to death on his lunch.
not the last unknown by @bananakarenina
It's Christmas Eve, and the Molina family goes to church. This year they have a couple tagalongs.
Joy To The World by @wishfulstargazer
"Christmas in LA is free of snow, but not of spirit. In fact, between the lit up palm trees, the shop displays everywhere, Feliz Navidad playing on every radio station, and a host of Christmas music and decorations all over Los Feliz high school, Christmas is pretty much unavoidable. It all grates on her nerves. Christmas without Rose Molina is unthinkable. Almost as unthinkable as music without Rose Molina." Can a well meaning trio of ghost boys bring back Julie's Christmas spirit and help her reclaim her music?
From the Heart by @breakaway71
Reggie gives Julie a gift, but she is not the only one to have some feelings about it.
Hallelujah, Everybody Say Cheese (Merry Christmas From The Family) by @a-tomb-with-a-view
Reggie sighs and turns in Luke’s arms to face him. Luke leans forward to kiss Reggie’s nose, his smile playful even if his eyes are huge and full of concern. God but Reggie loves him. “I’m not going home for Christmas,” he admits eventually. “I don’t know what I’m doing, but… but not that.” Luke frowns, and kisses Reggie’s forehead instead this time, having to lean up on tiptoes to do so. “Why don’t you come over to ours?”
Phantom Carols by @invisibleraven
Fills for the JatP Advent Event 2022!
Kiss Me Under the Missile Toad by @wr0temyway0ut
“Woah, little dude,” Willie says as he lowers Carlos to his feet. “You gotta be careful up there. What were you even doing?” Carlos gives Willie a proud grin and thrusts something into their hands. “I’m hanging the missile toads!”
why do i care how much it may storm (i’ve got my love to keep me warm) by @tillstarscollided
There is something special about nighttime snowfall, how it’s quiet and almost eerie with only the lights from the porch to show it, but how that also means you can watch it collect and sparkle in a controlled section of light instead of being blinded by the sun reflecting off the entire landscape of white. There had been snow on the ground already, slowly melting, but this new batch was evening it out, covering up the mud and sludge with a new blank canvas that Reggie really wanted to just go and mess up with snowmen and snow angels, as the ones he had already made disappeared, but it was 1 am and he should be cuddling in bed with his partners, and he has bad impulse control but not that bad of impulse control. or: Reggie’s partners bring him to New York to see the snow, and he hasn’t stopped staring since.
a lonely boy on christmas by @nuandia
Alex doesn’t really think twice. He takes the tangerines and a wrapped sandwich and a bottle of water out of his shopping bag and offers them to him. The boy looks up, startled. His face guarded, his posture tense before he blinks at Alex and then relaxes. He smiles a tentative smile and slowly reaches for the offered groceries. But his eyes are sparkling, making the breath in Alex’s throat catch.  Or, everybody's lonely on Christmas Eve. Or well, maybe not.
Of Hearts Borrowed And Blue by @daintyduck99
“Some vacation,” Julie mutters, shedding the duvet and reaching for the coffee maker.  She still doesn’t know why everyone was so convinced that a change of scenery would do her good—it’s not like Julie can outrun Christmas. Caleb apparently also forgot to mention that everyone in this town is obsessed with the holiday, which isn’t all that different from the current atmosphere at Molina Family Photography.  If anything, Julie’s even more of a grinch here that she would be back home, because she stuffed all of her grief into a battered suitcase, and she can’t just pull it out for every single stranger trying to get her into the Christmas spirit.

"Long story short, would you like to accompany me on a date?" for Rulie please and thank you
"Julie, you love me right?"
As soon as Reggie uttered those words, Julie knew nothing that followed would be good. Don't get her wrong, she did love Reggie-he was one of her dearest friends, and was always there when she needed him. However when he asked her stuff like this it usually meant a wacky idea was forming or he had some plan that would result in hijinks at best and disaster at worst.
"What do you need Reggie?" she asked, rolling her eyes fondly.
"So you remember my aunt Mildred? The one who smells like menthols and cats? Well apparently she found herself a guy who can stand her, which got my MeeMaw all on my case."
"Who would date Mildred?" Julie interrupted.
Reggie smiled at her. "I know right? Guy must have lost his sense of smell and logic or something. Anyways, then MeeMaw started going on about if Mildred could get a date, then why was I still single? Which I mean, ouch first of all."
"Yeah, kind of a burn," Julie said wryly.
"And I told her that I had a hard time meeting girls due to the whole rockstar thing; between them only wanting my fame, and our schedule keeping us busy," Reggie continued on.
"Yeesh, yeah, I can't remember the last time I went out," Julie said. After she and Luke had fizzled out, she had seen a guy or two, but no one special enough to keep around. So she was in a bit of a dry spell, and didn't have prospects in mind. Well none she was willing to admit to anyway.
"So then she went on to say I should just date a friend, which isn't a bad idea. Like, she and Pops were friends for ages and they were together over fifty years. Like, When Harry Met Sally is a classic for a reason right?"
Reggie? The point please?" Julie pressed.
He chuckled at that. "Right, sorry. Long story short, would you like to accompany me on a date?"
Julie's eyes widened. Where had that come from? "Excuse me?"
"Do you want to go out on a date with me?' Reggie repeated.
"To get your grandmother off your back?" Julie asked, her voice a tad hurt. Look, she and Reggie had been casually flirting back and forth their whole friendship, but neither had pushed for more. Maybe because she and Luke had imploded so badly, almost doing irreparable harm to the band. Maybe because it was only meant to be casual. Even if Julie desperately, secretly wanted it to be more, and had for some time now. But this... this hurt.
"No!" Reggie exclaimed. "I mean, not totally?"
Julie crossed her arms, glaring at him. "Start talking. Now."
Reggie blew out a breath. "So MeeMaw said... I should date a friend, and then told me I should ask you out. And I denied having any feelings for you. Then she just said 'Sugah, I'm seventy five, not blind'."
Julie's stance didn't relax, so Reggie barrelled onwards. "And I realized, if my grandmother could see how I felt about you, then it had to be super obvious. I've liked you for a really long time Julie. Longer than I probably should have. But then with Luke... I dunno, I just lost my nerve to make a move, and figured you'd just laugh in my face or something. But then after talking to MeeMaw, and the Mildred thing... I just had to take a chance."
He scooted in closer, gently unfolding her arms and taking a hand in his. "So yes, it would soothe MeeMaw to know I'm with someone. But it would be even better to be with the person who has held my heart since we were seventeen. If the answer is no, then that's it. I can get over it, or leave if you never want to see me again. But I had to ask."
Reggie looked her straight in the eyes once more, his whole expression shining with sincerity. "So, Julie Molina, would you please do me the honour of going out on a date with me?"
Julie leapt forward and kissed him soundly, which Reggie figured was as good of a yes as he was going to get.
And that evening, after their date, and a cavalcade of goodnight kisses that had Reggie swaying on his feet, he texted MeeMaw. 'You were right.'
'Sug, I always am. Happy for you and Julie. Now how long until you two give me some great grandkids?'
Reggie laughed and shook his head, loving how his grandmother would always be their biggest supported, even after only one date.
And in the end? They gave her Luna within five years.

Hello, can I request 14. Every time I come home there are more tiny pumpkins everywhere and it’s driving me insane from your autumn prompts list, with Alex being the one who's being driven insane? - @michelangelinden
Also for @floating-in-the-blue who asked for Willex + 14
Listen, it wasn't like Alex minded the way all his friends seemed to go insane about fall every year. He was used to Luke pouncing on him whenever he saw someone had placed a pumpkin at their front door, hollering 'it's decorative gourd season, motherfucker'!. He thought it was cute that Reggie, Flynn, and Julie did a Pumpkin Spice Latte Grand Tour to find which coffee shop had the best one. (Even if he always needed to call for backup when they came to the studio full of seventeen small PSLs worth of caffeine.)
He helped Reggie and Carlos hang up their ghost lights in the studio, he complimented Mister Molina's wreath on the door, and he quietly wondered why everyone seemed to be celebrating the start of flu season. Still, he didn't want to be a killjoy over something so harmless. He had way better things to be a killjoy about.
So when the first pumpkins arrived in his apartment, he didn't even notice at first. They were clustered in a little group of three on his coffee table. It was right after The Great Pumpkin Spice Latte Disaster Of 2022, so he almost managed to convince himself that maybe he'd put them there himself. Despite his best attempts (and because Luke and Willie were no help) they'd dragged him to the dollar store. Reggie kept adding fall and Halloween themed stuff to their basket, even though they said they just wanted some snacks.
He'd tried to put them back discretely, but clearly some had come home with them. Maybe he'd taken some home with him.
But then more pumpkins arrived. Another three, clustered on his book shelf, next to his favourite cactus, the one Willie called Alex Junior. One on his nightstand, on top of the book he was reading. Three lined up on the top of his ancient not-that-flat-screen TV. One in the soap dish in his shower.
It would be cute if Alex didn't live alone.
Reggie was the only one who had an emergency key, but Reggie swore up and down that he hadn't broken in to keep leaving tiny pumpkins at his place. In fact, at the anxious look on Alex' face, he carefully asked if Alex was okay and if he wanted Reggie to sleep over or something.
He almost said yes, but somehow that made his whole 'tiny pumpkins keep appearing in my apartment and I'm worried I might be axe-murdered by an evil Halloween spirit or a serial killer who has a Tiny Gourd Fetish' anxiety feel more real and grounded in reality. It probably wasn't that. It was probably just Luke playing a prank or something. Right?
He was fine. Totally fine. It wasn't freaking him out or anything.
But then one day, he came home, to find Willie perched on top of a stool on top of his coffee table, carefully trying a pumpkin on a seethrough string to his ceiling fan.
"YOU!"
"Hey, Hotdog!" Willie said cheerfully, finishing up his handiwork with a flourish before hopping down.
Alex spluttered at the lack of guilt. "You... how... you don't have a key!" Not that he didn't want his boyfriend to have a key. He was waiting for their anniversary in a few weeks to ask him to move in with him, okay? He had this whole romantic date planned.
"Babe, you think I need a key to get into your apartment?" Willie asked. "That's so cute." He came over and pressed a kiss to Alex' cheek. "Do you like it?" he asked, making jazzhands at the now seemingly floating pumpkins above his coffee table.
"I just... why?" was all that would come out of Alex' mouth.
"Because you love the season so much," Willie said. "But you never decorate or do anything for yourself. I wanted to do something special for you."
"I don't... I- okay." The fact that Willie had gone through all this trouble just to do something to make Alex smile made his heart hurt. He pulled Willie close, kissing him thoroughly.
"I love it."
Maybe he did like fall a little after all.

“i don’t want to spend any time apart from you” & “you have no idea how much i love you, do you?”
The shrill ring of the class bell startled Julie out a daydream. She blinked exactly four times in confusion before her eyes found Flynn’s.
Flynn was laughing at her. “What, did you go off to Luke land again? Honestly, you’re a hazard to your own health!” She stuffed her notebook and pencil into her bag and tapped her foot impatiently at Julie to do the same.
Julie’s cheeks lit on fire. “Shut up! I do not go to Luke land!”
Okay, so she totally did. Sue her.
Could you blame her? It had been exactly two weeks since Luke Patterson, her reluctantly acquired bandmate-slash-teen-hearthrob, admitted he’d been in love with her since the day she told him he’d written a shitty, weak bridge and showed him how to fix it.
They were in their honeymoon stage.
One people at school were quickly finding out about, if Luke had anything to say about it.
Though it shouldn’t have been surprising after the first five times he’d done it, Julie’s feet still stumbled beneath her as she walked out of her classroom to see him lounged casually against the lockers across the hallway, waiting for her with that boyish cocky and sweet smirk he’d somehow perfected over the years spread straight across his stupidly pretty face. “Jules!”
Flynn snorted and patted Julie on the shoulder before she left them, heading in the direction of her algebra class near the cafeteria.
Julie barely had time to acknowledge Flynn’s absence before Luke bounced off the lockers and approached so quickly that people definitely took notice of the fact that he’d once again been waiting for Julie Molina outside her classroom. The sideways stares they received snapped her out of her stunned immobility.
“You don’t have to walk me to all my classes, you know? You’re going to end up late to one of yours and then your mom isn’t going to let you come over and I’m gonna be super sad about it.” Still, she shyly reached forward for him and he entangled his fingers with hers to lead the way toward her locker.
“Don’t worry about me, boss. I’m just being a gentleman. Emily raised me that way, ya know.” The nonchalant air about him didn’t suit him in the slightest. Luke was the most intense person she knew. And as much of a gentleman as he had proven himself to be, there was just no way she’d believe he kept meeting up with her between classes just to be an escort service.
Julie raised an eyebrow at him as they reached her locker. “Liar.” She hip checked him playfully before she spun her combination into the dial and swung her locker door open.
They both exchanged their books for their next classes (after it became apparent this walking together thing was a permanent development, Julie had shyly asked if he wanted to leave some of his books in her locker. He’d never been so enthusiastic in an agreement in the time she’d known him) and he huffed out a breath. “Fine. I just don’t want to spend any time apart from you. I’m a Stage 5 Clinger.”
The admission was obviously a reluctant one on his part, his eyes cast down to the zippers on his backpack even though he’d pretty much already finished putting his books away.
Julie’s heart skipped in her chest. Little statements like that always hit her like a ton of bricks, a reminder that this was actually happening and that Luke Patterson wanted all their classmates to see that she was his girlfriend. The whole concept still felt like a dream in her mind.
Eyes darting the halls to confirm no teachers were around to scold her, she reached up on her tiptoes and pressed the fastest of kisses to his warm, pink cheek. He grinned instantly.
No one noticed except for the classmates who seemed to watch their every move these days.
“Please, keep clinging. It makes me feel like less of a disaster when I constantly want to engage in gross displays of PDA.” Julie bit her lip to hide her smile at the way his whole face seemed to light up.
“We can be gross. Boys are always gross. Be as gross as you want. I’ll like it, I swear.”
Julie’s nose wrinkled as she laughed. As much as he said that now, she’d known Luke for a long time and absolutely could not picture him willingly engaging in the level of public gross-ness she’d find ideal for their newfound relationship. Images flashed in her mind of the two of them attending football games together, him leaning entirely against her in the stands basically begging to be cuddled. Him propped against the lockers talking with Alex and Reggie, arms wrapped securely around Julie holding her against his side so she could just exist in their presence. Her sat in the cushion of his lap under the big tree out front, lounging with both their friends for an outdoor lunch in which they both shared all their favorite snacks and Luke’s fingers drew tickly little patterns across her knee just as an additional point of contact.
Her face lit on fire at that last one. Too far, Julie. Too far.
Her mind was brought back to the present by Luke’s fingers gently tugging at one of her curls before tucking it gently back behind her ear. “Man, you have no idea how much I love you, do you? Whatever you were just picturing in that big brain of yours, I wanna do it.” His hand smoothed her hair against her head as his thumb grazed against the apple of her cheek. She’d grown familiar enough with his expressions the last few weeks to know that he desperately wanted to kiss her. But he wouldn’t, because they were in the school hallway and he’d never do anything that might get her in trouble.
Luke saying “I love you” wasn’t new, exactly, but Julie’s heart didn’t seem to get that memo and always tried to pound right out of her chest every single time he said it. “I love you, too. Walk me to history?” She shut the door to her locker and lifted his hand up and over her shoulders, and he caught on and settled his arm around her shoulders, tucking her in close to his side and smacking a kiss right onto her temple.
“You got it, boss.”
“And maybe we could do lunch outside tomorrow? Invite Alex and Reggie and Flynn to join?”
Luke smiled that perfect, boyish confident and in love smile of his that she’d learned was reserved especially for her. “I’ll bring the snacks.”
And, yeah, maybe he was as in love with her as she was with him after all.

Ok but it’s the fact that Luke’s biggest motivator is music yet he chooses Julie over it in the end for me. Caleb literally gives him the opportunity to do what he lived to do for an eternity—play music for an eternity, get PRAISE for his music for an enternity. It’s the reason Caleb got that hold of Luke during Stand Tall. But, what does Luke choose in the end? He chooses to crossover. He chooses not to play with anyone but her for the rest of his short afterlife. He chooses the look they shared when he struggled to exist on stage. He chooses her. It’s the first time in his life, and his afterlife combined, where he chooses something, someone, over music. And i think that’s so beautiful.

My favorite thing about Luke Patterson is that he didn’t even stutter when he wasn’t head of the band anymore.
In Sunset Curve Luke is lead vocals, lead guitar, frontman, main songwriter. Then Julie comes in and he steps all the way to the side to make room for her in front of him, not just because they need her for people to see them, but because he sees her and respects her and he opens his arms so willingly even though they’re basically her band now.
“Julie and the Phantoms.”
And he has no qualms. He just loves music and loves his boys and loves Julie, and that’s all that matters. And I love him so much for it.

Love you prompts: "This is my favorite picture of us." for Rulie pretty please?
Reggie's not snooping through his girlfriend's stuff. Really! Swear on his grandpa's banjo.
She'd added a little too much glitter while she was decorating her phone case, and it keeps getting in her speakers and scuffing on her screen, so he figured he'd do something nice for her and pop the case off and clean it up a little, that's all.
He doesn't expect a scrap of tissue paper to fall out and unfurl, freeing a handful of Polaroids that flutter across the Molina's kitchen table.
Reggie gingerly sets Julie's phone and her case away from the photos and wipes his hands on his shirt. He carefully sifts through the pictures, doing his best to touch them as little as possible.
There's one of him and Julie with Luke and Alex that must have been taken right before their Halloween gig. They've got their arms around each other and bright grins tugging at their cheeks. Julie's incredibly cute in her gingham dress and ruby slippers and her braids, and she and Flynn went all out on helping Luke and Reggie and Alex with their costumes, transforming them into the Tin Man and the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion, respectively.
The next photo is one of Julie and Flynn from the same night, squishing their cheeks together and making silly faces at the camera. Only Flynn could decide to dress as the Emerald City and make it work.
There's Carrie flipping off the camera without looking away from her phone, lips twitching in a small smile, there's Luke with a guitar pick between his teeth, acoustic in hand, there's Alex and Willie smearing cookie dough batter all over one another, and there's Reggie grinning at Julie behind the camera, cheek propped in his hand, eyes glittering with affection he can't contain.
Flynn calls it his "hella heart eyes" face. She's not wrong.
The last photo makes his chest all fluttery, like someone unleashed a storm of butterflies in there. Someone did, honestly.
Julie still gives him butterflies. She bowls him over all the time, makes him weak in the knees with a single smile or a casual touch or a bright laugh, a loving look when their eyes meet. Hers are so warm, and he gets lost in their depths constantly.
They're sparkling with joy in the picture, evident even under the brim of the black cowboy hat she'd just stolen from him. The flannel she'd borrowed had been tied to look like more of a crop top, and she's stunning, the loveliest person at the square dance he'd dragged her and their friends to.
She's smiling at him, nose scrunched, leaning in close as they dance, and he's smirking, though a vibrant flush betrays how flustered she'd made him.
He'd really wanted to kiss her right then.
A tiny giggle catches him off-guard. "Reg?"
"It's not what it looks like!" he rushes to say, throwing his hands up.
Julie shakes her head, giggling harder.
"I don't mind if you look at that stuff. I wouldn't have left my phone here if I did. You just seemed really invested. Did you know that you have glitter on your cheek?"
Huh. When the heck did that get there?
Oh, he was doing the whole heart eyes, cheek-in-hand thing again. He hurriedly scrubs at his face.
Julie smiles. She reaches out and wipes the glitter away, or at least some of it. She weaves around the kitchen table and wraps her arms around him, resting her chin on his head.
"This is my favorite picture of us."
He has to swallow some of the butterflies so he can speak. "Really?"
"Yeah." She presses a light kiss into his hair. "Our Not Date, Flynn called it. I had so much fun with you that night. I almost told you that I liked you then, and I thought about kissing you, but I was worried it would ruin your night if I was totally misinterpreting everything. Flynn slapped that photo into my hand and said I couldn't be, and I should go for it. So I did."
"The very next day," Reggie murmurs. "When you brought my hat and my shirt back. The neighbors were scandalized when you kissed me on the porch."
He feels her shrug. Her voice wavers with mischief and barely-contained laughter.
"I mean, I did hold the hat up. They don't know that for sure."
He snorts. "Well, I do. And it said a lot. I really thought I was dreaming until then."
She gently tips his head back with her fingers on his chin. Her eyes shine.
"What does this kiss say?"
It's a very loud I love you, without hesitation.
Though there might be some glitter.

'' i'm extremely okay with this. " for Rulie?
"Julie the cast list is out!" Flynn yelled as she bounced down the hall towards her. Julie sucked in a breath, holding hope in her heart. She had tried out for Romeo & Juliet on a whim, thinking it would be fun, plus the credit would look good on her college applications. But now...
What if she got a part? What if she didn't?
With bated breath she stalked down the hall to where the cast list was hanging on the drama club room door. She saw Carrie walk away looking a little miffed, so her hopes sank. If Carrie, the star of the school didn't get the role she wanted, what hope was there for Julie?
Only when she looked through the minor parts and didn't see her name, Julie still felt disappointment. Not even the role of Nurse? But then she decided to see who would be playing the titular roles, and spied something she never thought would happen.
Julie Molina-Juliet
And right below that, even more damning was the thing that made Julie stifle her screams:
Reggie Peters-Romeo
"Aren't you excited Jules?" Flynn asked from her side. "You get to play the most famous couple in history with your crush!"
"Whooo," Julie said weakly. What was she going to do?
The thing was that she and Reggie were actually pretty good friends after he tutored her in math and she helped him pass Spanish 1. It was during those study sessions that Julie fell for Reggie, getting to know the dorky personality behind the leather jacket and ripped jeans.
Turned out that falling in love was way easier than algebra.
But she had kept her feelings to herself, not wanting to lose her friend, her only chance of passing math for the sake of a silly crush she had hoped would pass. Only now she was still in love with Reggie for over a year, and was going to have to kiss him in front of a crowd of strangers!
"Hey Jules," the man himself said as he leaned against her locker later that day. "You ready to be my Julie-t?"
"S-sure," Julie stuttured.
"Hey, it's only a play right? We can have fun with it.!" Reggie exclaimed. "Besides I am positive you'll get a kick out of me in tights right?"
"Right."
In the end it turned out okay because Reggie made running their lines fun, goofing around and then doing an about face to the brooding Romeo in seconds flat. Julie had to stifle many a giggle as he made faces at her from the sidelines during her scenes. It didn't erase the tension of the whole romance aspect, but it relaxed her.
She was playing a role, she could do this.
Only she forgot that they had yet to do the whole kiss scene. And the day was finally here.
"Don't worry Julie, I had a pile of fish and garlic and onions for lunch!" Reggie joked. But she couldn't find it in herself to laugh. "Hey, are you okay?"
"Just... nervous I guess?" she lied. "Not used to an audience for my kisses."
"You wanna practice it just us first?" Reggie asked.
Julie bit her lip and nodded. At least then her humiliation would be private. Hopefully Reggie wouldn't pick up on her feelings, and like drop out of the show. She let him take her to an empty classroom, the two of them sitting on the floor.
"I know we're supposed to be dancing and the like, but I figured a dry read would be okay," Reggie said shyly, his cheeks a sweet pink colour. Maybe he was just as nervous as Julie was?
"O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do;/They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair," Reggie started, holding their palms together, a cheeky grin on his face.
Julie bit back a smile, trying to take on the air of the prim Capulet heiress and said her next line; "Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake."
Reggie cupped her cheek, and looked her right in the eye. "Are you okay with this?"
"I am extremely okay with this," Julie whispered back. "Now say the line."
Reggie blushed even deeper and grinned, leaning in further, their lips almost brushing as he recited. "Then move not, while my prayer's effect I take."
Then he kissed her.
It was a sweet press of lips, but it sent a shock of sparks up Julie's spine at the feeling of giddiness it evoked in her. The press and pull of their mouths was supposed to be an innocent thing, but to Julie it felt downright sinful. So much so that she threaded her fingers through Reggie's hair, prolonging the kiss for a beat longer. Finally they pulled back, blinking at one another, eyes wide, lungs racing to catch their breath amidst their hearts raging rhythm.
"Thus from my lips, by thine, my sin is purged," Reggie said, looking still dazed and shell shocked.
Julie giggled a little, blushing to the roots of her hair. "Then have my lips the sin that they have took."
"Give me my sin again," Reggie said, reeling her in for another kiss. And well, Julie didn't have the heart to tell him that he'd gotten the line wrong. Not when he was kissing her like that any ways.
So maybe they'd have to tone it down for the stage, but Julie was fairly certain that this was just the start of her love story-and hopefully they would have a much happier ending.
She was right, but she did have to laugh at every review of the play mentioning her chemistry with Reggie. He just smiled and held her hand as they walked through the halls, happily granting her one more sinful kiss before her class.
Even if it was math, she was pretty sure she had a lock on her tutor for the remainder of the year-and many more years beyond that.
