Haha, you don’t know how stupid this is going to be. I have extreme brain rot for my favs and ADHD so it’s like hyper fixation x 10 lol

MePhone X (II): All of the MePhones are so interesting to me and I would go absolutely feral if they all come back and get a spinoff series or something, but the one I have the most love for at the moment is MePhone X and it actually infuriates me LMAO.

He has had no screen time, no personality, and no actual relevance yet but my asshole ADHD brain won’t let me stop thinking about him! It’s mostly just headcanons on how he will act/operate and ideas for plot lines with MePhone 4 and the cast that circulate in my mind but they make me kinda happy (idk). I really want to make art and write about him more but then I have to remind myself that he hasn’t come out yet. I always think of him as the MePhone that’s built to be a weapon but might actually be really sweet. If he dies expect me to cry and make 1000+ fix-it-fics about him lol (unless he’s like super evil or something).

Bot (II): They’re so silly and I love their character arc. Their design is also really cool and they’re so fun to draw. They really flourished after they were able to be themselves and while I know many people don’t like their arc, I think it was good. I hope we get to see them go back with MePhone 4 and live at Hotel OJ with Fan and Test Tub.

Moonstone (EEE): She is literally me, nervous, gets flustered easily, and shy. I would LOVE it if she could get a fraction of screen time like the others do and if her powers were actually utilized but whatever I guess.

Diary (EEE): She is my number one favorite, I mean, did you see what she did to that Dino in E3! That was cool! Like with Moonstone, I wish she got more screen time but I also, for some reason, want to know her backstory. She’s a journalist who works for Poison in a large city, that sounds interesting to me. Her fic (https://m.fanfiction.net/s/11407809/1/Moonthery) shows that she’s a huge asshole but I’m still really curious.

Toney (Earthbound/Mother2): Again with the characters that have no plot relevance T-T

I don’t really have an explanation on why he was a favorite character of mine but I guess it would have to be because of the little bit of personality we see from him and his interactions with Jeff.

GLaDOS (Portal 1/2): GLaDOS’s story is really interesting and dark and has set the standard for AI in my mind. When I learned about what she’s gone through all that hatred I had for her melted away and I felt like she was forced into a situation she had no choice in being in. A long time ago I heard this audio clip of Caroline pleading with the Aperture scientists that she didn’t want to become GLaDOS and it made my heart sink. If I ever find it I’ll share it but it was a while ago.

Auto (Walk-E): My first ever encounter with an AI character and what set me on the path of absolutely loving robots! I think it would be cool to see how he’s doing now with the humans all leaving him but for the love of everything Pixar should not touch this movie or characters with a thousand-foot pole. I would actually die if they made a sequel, just leave old films alone!

I think Seventeen is one of the most well-rounded groups in kpop but there's something about Coups that just makes me go feral every time I see him perform (his part in Cheers...wow). You are one of the best Caratblr on this hellsite. I have read some of your essays (and asks) and know that I can rely on you for an unbiased opinion. I know he is not your ult or even part of your bias line, but what are some things you like about S.Coups?

hi!!! first of all, hello and welcome! i hope you’re having a good time as a baby carat. isn’t it all so exciting? thank you so much! haha, i just try to answer the asks i get according to my best abilities but it’s most definitely fun. i love talking about seventeen. i’ve had like 5 hours of bad sleep, so bear with me.

so, scoups. i love him. i really do love him and i mean, how couldn’t i? how could anyone not love him? there are so many things about seungcheol that i love. first of all, he’s super handsome. an ode/fear seungcheol with the cropped black hair is something i return to all the time because i think it’s his best look ever. i just. love looking at a beautiful man and scoups is super charismatic on top, he really draws your eye in. i think that he is one of the best rappers in seventeen, second to only vernon; he’s got this massive swagger and coolness that isn’t easy to find and is honestly mind-boggling considering everything that he has to carry as the leader of the group.

he’s a great leader, one of the best in the business. i love that he has a bit of a mean streak (especially for dino), i love that he’s competitive and fierce because not only is that very entertaining to watch in gose but you can really see during songs like left & right, clap, or fear that he very much drives seventeen. he’s very caring, but you can tell that he comes from a family where he’s the youngest sibling (and in that regard, that dino as the maknae comes from a family where he’s the oldest. i love that about them and it’s another reason why i think seungcheol and dino are foils in this group).

he has been very transparent about his struggle with anxiety (more of that in his hit the road episode) and i really look up to him for that, as someone who’s been suffering from a general anxiety disorder for half my life. it is not easy to do what he does with the condition he has, especially as a a leader, and i applaud him for recognizing his limits and acting upon that. i really have so much respect for him as an artist, musician and as a person. he writes great songs, and his involvement in svt’s songwriting and production is second to only vernon and woozi. he’s very good at that.

also, i think whenever he steps to the mic mad as hell you know shit’s gonna be crazy fucking good. love that. he’s a leo through and through and maybe it’s my own leo rising, but i see a showman and i just adore it. my favorite performances of his are probably his part in 24H (i love how he dances that), his rap in fear and left & right, and about every hip hop unit stage because they’re just so cool.

5 Headcanons About Your Life:

You attended Namimori Middle alongside the Vongola, which is how you met everyone and how you became involved with the Vongola and Hibari.

At some point in your adult life, you founded a small, indie game company. The games your company creates are solid and well-done and have their own cult following. They’ve recently started to get more attention and have been reviewed and given playthroughs by some more well-known people. The great thing about your job though is that you can technically do your work from anywhere because of modern technology, so it frees up time for you to be able to accompany Hibari on his travels when he feels there’s no real and present danger in you doing so, allowing the two of you to spend more time together than you would be able to do otherwise.

It also helps when you have to temporarily move back to your home country to help take care of a sick family member. During this time, even with as busy as their work is, Kusakabe comes to visit at least once a month, Hibari calls once a week and comes to visit every other month or so, and all your friends in the Vongola try to call and come visit whenever possible. Even though Hibari doesn’t come to visit as much as the others, he’s the one making sure Kusakabe does and he also arranges for flowers to be delivered to that sick family member every other week, so that they (and you) have something to make your days a little bit better.

You’ve drawn portraits of all of your friends at some point throughout the years and most of your friends still have those portraits either tucked away in a drawer with their other important papers or have them framed and hung up in their apartments or homes. You draw Hibari the most though and he always keeps the newest drawing you’ve done of him folded up and stashed in his wallet.

Dino becomes a sort of surrogate big brother for you and he is definitely one of your confidantes, someone who is always willing to answer your calls or come talk to you whenever you’re having a hard time or need advice.

Aaron asked this question more times than he could keep track of, but that wasn’t going to stop him from asking it. It started as a dare from his big sister two years ago, but now it’s a fun hobby. When fifth grade isn’t overwhelming him, scaring him with mountains of homework and horror stories about how hard middle school is going to be, and when he’s run out of YouTube videos to catch up on, he is on the hunt for fellow giant-lizard-lovers like a hungry Ceratosaurus.

“No, okay bye.” But it did get a little tiring to always cross out names and phone-numbers on the phone book with red ink. Hey, a dinosaur of a way to find phone-numbers was appropriate. He read the next number, dialed it, and after a ring or two he asked, “How would you like to talk with me about dinosaurs? No, okay thank you.”

Aaron crossed out another name and sighed, taking a break since he reached the end of a line of numbers. Maybe he should just be grateful for Abbey and accept that no one else wants to talk about the Jurassic Period. Or the Cretaceous Period. Or the Triassic Period. But then a big, old, gray-tinted ad distracted him. He grinned, thinking it would at least be fun to give them a call, and he dialed the number.

Private home phone-numbers were fun, but businesses were also fun! Poor, bored workers would gladly talk to him rather than crabby Karens, and they got paid for it! So Aaron smiled as the phone rang, and he grinned when someone picked up.

“Thanks for calling the Mystery Shack, you’re talking to Mr. Mystery himself! How may I befuddle or bewilder you?”

“Hi! How would you like to talk with me about dinosaurs?”

“Oh, dude! I’d love to, but I’m scheduled for a tour of the Oddity Museum in three minutes.” The man said, and Aaron grinned continuously, because it sounded like Mr. Mystery really wanted to talk with him about dinosaurs. “But hey! Can you hold on for one minute, I think I know a guy!”

“Yeah, sure mister!” And Aaron was greeted by the sound of a catchy jingle about buying t-shirts and mugs and snowglobes. He smiled and wiggled his feet along to the music as he looked outside at the beautiful late-fall afternoon, entertained while he waited.

Soos was on the hunt. He planned out the house in his head. Abuelita was taking a nap upstairs, Melody was organizing the upcoming tour, and Stan took Jacob out for ice cream, so he might be…

The owner of the Shack grinned when he stopped at the doorway and saw the man he was looking for, sitting in Stan’s chair, reading a book.

“Uncle Ford!”

The old sailor smiled up at the young man. “Yes, wh-...”

“Do you think you could answer the phone for me? I have a tour and I think this customer’s request is right up your alley.”

“Uh… sure, but w-...”

“Thanks, you’re the best!” And Soos was gone before he could address Ford’s confusion.

Ford was a bit lost, having little to no business with business, but he had learned at this point to trust Soos, so he picked up the phone beside him and was immediately greeted with a sweet, “How would you like to talk with me about dinosaurs?”

Ford grinned and closed his book. “I would love to! All three periods are equally as fascinating to study, but the Triassic contains some of my favorite dinosaurs!”

A young voice gasped on the other line. “Mine, too! Everyone thinks the Jurassic period is so great, and it’s pretty cool, but the Triassic gave us Plateosaurus and the Brachiosaurus!”

“That’s very true! You know, it’s very interesting, maybe depictions don’t include feathers at all, which is a bit frustrating, but perhaps after the news has spread they will incorporate more feathers on merchandise and textbooks.”

“YES! That’s what I wanna do when I grow up, help draw better-accurate dinosaurs!”

The phone rang on Sunday. The Shack was closed today, so Stan lazily answered it and was greeted with, “Wanna talk about dinosaurs?”

“Sixer, phone for you!”

Ford ran into the living room, elbowed his twin out of the chair, and took the phone. “Hello again, Aaron! Now, where were we? Right, so Australopithecus. … No, I don’t think… Oh! No, homo habilis was erect, Australopithecus was never fully erect.”

“Maybe he was nervous.” Stan groaned, getting to his feet.

Ford shot him a look as thankfully the young boy on the other end didn’t catch that and happily shared some more fun-facts about homo habilis.

While most college students were excited for Spring Break so they could get drunk or lose their virginity, Katie was excited because her family had planned a special secret roadtrip. She was careful to keep up with her family and talk to her parents and brother frequently, but Aaron had a hobby he wasn’t talking about that his parents found out and were thrilled about. Aaron had made another friend.

Rick and Katie did some research and the tourist attraction sounded right up their alley! In the middle of the woods, tons of weird stuff, and a fun roadtrip filled with diners and attractions. They decided to surprise Aaron, and they made up a lie that they would spend Spring Break in California with Katie so she could show her family around San Francisco, when in actuality they would be traveling up the state to the Redwood Highway and see the oddity place, and maybe even allow Aaron to meet his new pen-pal. Or, um, phone-pal.

So after bombarding Katie with hugs the Mitchells threw her luggage into the car and drove off. Aaron turned to Katie and excitingly asked, “So where are we going first? Can we go fix the Golden Gate bridge by painting it gold?”

Katie laughed and ruffled his hair. “Maybe later, right now I wanna show you guys this fun store right outside of town. Here, check out the videos I made for my classes!” And she pulled out some airpods and gave one to Aaron.

“Cool!”

Rick and Linda smirked at each other as they drove north. By the time they reached a little diner in Redding, CA, it was very clear to Aaron that they weren’t in San Francisco anymore. “Come on, just tell me where we’re going!” The boy begged as he fed Monchi a fry.

“The best kind of prizes are the surprises.” Linda quoted.

“Eric, Deborahbot5000, where are we going?”

“Sorry, Aaron, we cannot give that information.” Eric said, he and the other robot sitting politely in their seats, happy to be a part of the social interaction.

“Yes, Mother will bury us if we disobey.” Deborahbot said matter-of-factly.

“What?! No I won’t, sweeties.”

“Won’t you ground us?”

The family laughed and Aaron let the topic go; if he was honest, he loved a good surprise. The big family stopped in a motel just at the California-Oregon border, and the next morning after muffins and coffee and orange juice they were on the road again, passing dozens of trees that made Rick feel at home. Katie happily recorded the trip, trusted to be the documenter for another fun roadtrip, with hopefully not as much mortal peril.

Aaron watched as they left the highway for a simple road, and they passed a big sign. The boy gasped and caught what was happening. “No WAY! Really?!”

“You know, I hear this Mystery Shack even has a Sasquatch.” Rick commented while Linda pulled out a pamphlet from the glove box.

“It says here it’s full of odd things you’ll never see anywhere else, even a dinosaur footprint…”

“Wasn’t there a rumor of there being a Bottomless Pit?” Katie asked, pointing her camera at Aaron to get his reaction.

“Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!” Aaron cheered, hugging his Dad’s neck and kissing his Mom’s cheek.

“Hey, no worries, buddy.” Rick eased, fixing his shewed glasses. “We wanted to see this place, too!”

“Why don’t we eat a quick lunch and then we’ll take the backroad for the attraction? There’s a coupon in here for a diner made from a giant log!”

And so after being served by a pretty blonde teenager at Greasy’s, they drove through town to get to the backroad. Signs made them confident that they were going the correct way, as well as Eric and Deborahbot5000’s GPS. Then as they turned a corner, a big triangle-shaped building came into view. Aaron grinned at the giant sign with a missing letter. People were already leaving, arms full of souvenirs and one or two already wearing their new hats or t-shirts. Once Rick parked in the Free Parking Lot, Aaron spilled out of the car and ran for the shack, but he stopped.

Katie caught up to him and patted his back. “You cool, man?”

Aaron shrugged, holding his hands in front of him and his shoulders up to hide his face a bit. “I-I dunno… What if… What if he doesn’t like me?”

“Hey, I get it.” Katie admitted. “When I first met my friends I was really nervous. I had talked to them online for weeks and I was worried it wasn’t gonna be what it was all cracked up to be, but it was. Your system worked! You found another dino-lover! You earned this moment. Just take in a deep breath and be yourself, cuz you’re a pretty cool dude.”

Aaron smiled up at his big sister. “Thanks.”

Trusting Eric and Deborahbot5000 to watch Monchi and make sure he used the bathroom, the Mitchells went inside the shack. On the porch there was an ice cooler, a sign reading schedule times for tours of the Oddity Museum, a Help Wanted sign, and two rocking chairs with a game of checkers between them.

Inside the store a few customers filled up the gift shop, alongside t-shirts, snowglobes, a vending machine, a door beside ti that read Employees Only, a bookshelf full of comic on one side and old newspapers claiming alien sightings on the other, a fish tank holding a monkey-mermaid, and barrels full of spaceship keychains and dino claws. A new section called Camping Stuff caught Rick’s eye, selling backpacks, lanterns, flashlights, batteries, canteens, and compasses. Katie opened a comic called Lil’Stanley and laughed at the swears, taking a pic and sending it to her friends’ group chat. Linda looked into the barrel full of patches and grinned at all the fun designs, while Aaron stared happily at the mer-monkey.

The Employees Only door opened and closed and Rick watched as a man in a suit, fez, and eyepatch walked up to the lady at the register and kissed her cheek. The woman smiled lovingly and left while the guy who resembled a gopher checked a customer out. Rick waited until the buyer left to approach the register, leaning an arm on the counter.

“Welcome to the Mystery Shack, dude!”

“Thanks! So, this is gonna sound weird, but my son Aaron talks to a guy here about dinosaurs…”

“No way!” The owner interrupted excitedly. “Good to see you, dudes! I’m Mr. Mystery! Wow, you guys came a long way, huh?”

“Nah, only from California. My daughter is attending art school there.”

While the men chit-chatted and Linda joined them, Katie noticed a guy walking up to Aaron and looking at the mer-monkey. She smiled and tried to read the comic without being too nosy, but she kept her senses on her brother.

“Hm, quite fascinating, isn’t it?” The man in the blue hoodie said. “But I think my favorite is the fossilized footprint. Could be Nanuqsaurus hoglundi.”

“The Polar Bear Lizard?” Aaron clarified, touching his chin as he looked at the dino-print, his back to the man he was talking to. “Maybe, but they’re from Alaska. It’s possible plate tectonics did cause some fossils to be relocated here, but it could also be a Nanotyrannosaurus lancensis footprint.”

“The Dwarf Tyrant? Could very well be. Would you like to talk about dinosaurs after your tour?”

Aaron’s eyes widened as the voice was finally familiar to him. He turned and looked up to find an old man smiling up at him. He had fluffy gray hair with a white stripe running around his scalp, wrinkles by his eyes due to smiling, a cleft chin, glasses, and wore a blue hoodie with a maroon sweater underneath. His hands were behind his back and he smiled down at Aaron warmly, while the boy was jittery and overly-excited. He took in a sharp breath and had to fight every muscle to keep from leaping through the screen door. 

“H-H-Hi…” He peeped. He cleared his throat and tried again. “Y-Yeah, sure! I’d love to! I’m Aaron! Er, wait, you already knew that.” And he held out a hand to shake.

His phone-pal, Ford, chuckled and got on one knee to be eye-level. “Greeting, Aaron! It’s nice to formally meet you.”

Aaron shook his hand and noticed something. He had six fingers on his right hand. A quick glance told Aaron he also had six fingers on his left hand. Aaron grinned with sparkling eyes at his new friend, while the old sailor smiled warmly at the boy that reminds him of his niece and nephew when they were young.

Day 9 - Favorite Digimon Partner

OBVIOUS QUESTION! With an obvious answer. But instead of babbling about Vee how about makes a travel in time to when I had other two favorites huh?

Before V-mon, my favorite was Tailmon.

Tailmon is the kitty cat I found super badass in Adventure, small and dangerous. She’s on another level (literally) from all of the cast. She’s mature and can be cocky when needs. A wonderful character with a strong personality.

But, how about BEFORE Tailmon? Easy, that other childhood favorite was...

GABUMON!! That dino-who-evolves-into-a-wolf was so cool and well designed that I couldn’t resist to him. I also prefer MetalGarurumon over WarGreymon (sorry guys, and Daisuke the original Taichi fanboy) because of the combination with silver and blue plus Gabumon’s traces/details.

OKAY, now that We talked about the previous favorites... Let’s go to the in-depth (?) post about why the heck V-mon is my most favorite since I was like, 9 years old.

Small and blue, also has a very boyish voice in both BR and JP versions -- the difference is that the BR dub has a man voicing him while the JP a woman. I really love both voice actors, but I won’t talk about it. I will focus on why I love this little troll.

He’s not so much different from Daisuke, but at the same time he seems more easygoing and calm than the human partner (who’s angry like a pomeranian dog lol) making a very strange combo. While he’s also carelessly and naive, sometimes to the fact he could be fooled by Daisuke... Vee also is a little shit who teases Daisuke when given opportunity. But hey, they’re friends. They’re all bickering each other but would take the bullet for each other haha.

V-mon has a big impact on my childhood -- he’s small and very charismatic. Also he loves chocolate and sweets. he’s very much my kind of digimon. Also I had a miniature of Chibimon & Lighdramon before seeing 02 and I felt like the tiny Chibimon was the cutest digi-ever. No wonder I fell in love with the character when I watched the BR dub eons ago.

Considering that my favorite armor evolution as a child was Fladramon, and now my favorite is Lighdramon... You can see that I love the aes. brought on all of the Vee armor evolutions -- Also I got him becoming my zodiac sign with the Digimental of Hope, and more than that: Said form is featured on a 02 material!! So I’m a very fond of the Headcanon that Daisuke is a proud Sagittarius kid.

Fladramon fits Daisuke’s aesthetic so much -- He got flames on his armor, is a powerful armor form and I think his armor has some references to Omegamon. How funny, Omegamon is the partner digimon of Taichi & Yamato, Daisuke’s seniors and the original holders of the crests of Courage and of Friendship. Mere coincidence? Probably not.

Fladramon has been seen a lot of non-02 material too, so I believe he’s pretty much one of the most popular armor level, alongside with Magnamon. His debut episode was somehow great, and I feel like if caused me a good impression of him... I’m sure it caused a good impression on more people.

Design-wise, The red blends with the blue of his skin. The orange lines forming flames and separating the yellow part of the armor is also soothing in my opinion. It’s a nice design, even if simple. The belts on his arms are also a nice touch! My only concern is how does Fladramon grab things: Are those claws movable? I think they are if we go with ep 4′s battle.

Let’s move on, to the next form!!

Chibimon is a form I love to the most, it’s my Baby II/In-training favorite smol-mon. He’s round like a baby child, and very much a child-like who probably causes Daisuke problems. He has big eyes and a cat mouth. I love this little dragon okay? He’s so fun to doodle, being one of the most relaxing of the digis to draw in my opinion.

His color palette is limited to blue, ice blue/white, red and black. I think those colors work nicely together.

Nex evolutiont!!

Lighdramon! My most favorite besides Magnamon & Sagittarimon, a very cool design. It works more with speed stats, being the fastest than the other Vee armor evolutions and has so many cool details that I do not know where to begin.

He has a black armor full with details in yellow/gold, red/crimson and gray. Not to mention the crest of Friendship being the only blue detail in the whole armor! Are those red details some kind of car lights?? I’m sure they are because of Bandai’s artwork for him. He’s thunder-based, so of course he must be fast. The horn on the helmet has the shape of a thunder and I admit this is my favorite feature on him. And those spikes on the back?? Cool but... I feel concerned every time Daisuke or anyone is riding on Lighdramon...

NEXT!!

Magnamon!! I love how the gold blends nicely with the blue skin, also has some details in metal/silver and those tubes on his feet. I think Magnamon might be the most coolest of all armor evo enough to become a Royal Knight and be featured on a lot of non-02 media.

Magnamon matches Daisuke’s aes as well -- since Daisuke is a loyal person, probably like a knight.

It’s a very powerful evolution that, according to Daisuke, “cannot be used for much time” (Xros Wars ep 78)

XV-mon!! I’m not a very much fan of him, but I like how the adult form of V-mon ironically fits a line in the Kaiser arc -- In which V-mon is sad for being the only one unable to fly LOL Anyway, I like how XV-mon is called by “phantom dragon” and he’s pretty fast and strong.

Again, they kept the same palette colors for V-mon, but “aged” him to be this very slim and buff dragon. The “X” on his chest goes to his belly, and it also has a “V” on it. That’s pretty much based on V-dramon’s V on its chest.

NEXT!!

CHICOMON!! It’s like a Dragon Quest slime, huh? I’m pretty sure that was the intention. Chicomon is soft, and cute. Is literally round with an antennae shaped as V-mon ears. Has a sky blue color, and black eyes with a light made of a pale pink or red.

It’s a baby. Very baby.

I’d love to talk about Paildramon and Imperialdramon, but no icons and I’m still on a temp pc -- sad noises. Also they’re part-Wormmon too, and I wanted to keep this being Vee only. Maybe next time I will talk about those two.

30 questions about Juni (with unnecessarily long answers), from this SSO OC asks posts except i just filled it all out in one go. i want to try developing her into a more detailed character just for fun so this seemed like the best way to start! i hadn’t decided anything about her besides “non-binary and pan” until starting to fill this out hahah, i just tapped into my jorvegian feels and went along with what felt right.

this is already stated on my “about” page but, to be clear, Juni is some kinda persona/OC thingy and not “me”, while having some traits and details inspired by my real self. (you can definitely get to know about me by reading this, but, it’s not me me.)

BASIC CHARACTER INFO (remember her details are not mine!) Name: Juni Ravenhall Age: around 18-20 i guess, don’t wanna make her too old to fit with the other characters in the story. Gender: non-binary / genderfluid?, but more or less OK with her female body, and she’s fine with any pronouns. Sexuality: panromantic pansexual.

1. What is their home stable in-game? Why?

South Hoof Peninsula (headcanon:ing that there is a home stable there, obviously) because it’s her home. While travelling she makes use of stables and accomodations anywhere, so some people know her in the places she stays over a lot (Valedale, Moorland, others).

2. Where do they actually live in Jorvik?

Her home is on South Hoof, although she doesn’t stay there for long periods of time anymore with all the travelling and adventures going on. She was born in Valedale, but was taken to South Hoof as a small child. (My headcanon is that there’s a few more people living on the peninsula than what’s shown in-game.) It’s worth noting she’s an orphan (or is she...?! *dun dun dun*) so she grew up without a biological family. (btw, that’s not just to be dramatic... I’m from an abusive home and parents mean nothing to me, so I wouldn’t be able to relate to her as much if I gave her some kind of normal, caring parents, I don’t know that stuff. I’d much rather she has no parents / doesn’t know her parents, than that she has to grow up with awful ones.)

3. Who is their favorite NPC?

Hmm, I would make up some OCs for her proper personal story, but out of the NPCs that exist..... (these are not all my favourites, just some of them that I think works well for her story.) - She knows everyone at South Hoof to some degree since she grew up there, I think she’s especially close with Jonas as a parent-figure of sorts, and of course, Madison. She helps the hermit and is on good terms with him. When Hugh moved there, she started making friends with him, I imagine they’ll get close as Juni really cares about animal rescue. - She's fairly close to Conrad, mix of mentor, friend and parent-figure. (He’s taught her more than what’s shown in canon, and she visits him anytime she’s staying in Moorland.) - She likes helping Agnetha and Björn with their garden projects so they have a friendly relation, though casual. It’s the kind of thing where she’ll stay over and help them for a few days, and at the end of the day they have cozy outdoor dinners outside the house, watching the sunset view from the cliff and smelling the roses. They probably get some great fresh food from around Silverglade. - I think she's somewhat friends with Ed at Wolf Hell Inn (or stays over and sees what crazy stuff he’s up to often enough). - She definitely likes Rania and like going out for rides with her, whether there’s a special cause or not. I forget the name of that crazy ranger girl... but she likes her and Alonso too. - She likes hanging out with Mario, and they’ll have picnics on the mountain or on top of the observatory after she’s been helping him out, watching the stars together (platonically). - She’s a wary friend of the Bobcats and Justin, like, they could be friends (since she’s at Moorland often enough) but they aren’t quite. I think she gets along with Josh (pole bending guy). - I was going to write about the soul riders and druids... but I think in my made-up headcanon, Juni's situation and role in the soul rider team would be different. I’ll have to think more about it.

4. Who is their Soul Steed? What breed are they? Do they have any markings or look different in some way from the in-game appearance you could give them?

Winterborn, a Jorvik Warmblood stallion (here’s his tag on my blog). He’s a brave and loving companion, thoughtful sometimes, a bit silly and spoiled sometimes. His bond with Juni is very strong. He probably does look a bit different in my headcanon but I’d have to draw/edit it to make a decision, so let’s leave that in the air for now...

5. What is their favorite location? (Ex, Hollow Woods, Greendale, Silverglade Manor Library) Why?

- South Hoof, as her adopted home, and because of the ancient and “wild and free” energy it has. She feels relaxed and at home there, and somehow connected to the magic of the land (even before she learns about magic). - Valedale and the surrounding areas like Hollow Woods, where she feels a nagging sense of nostalgia and belonging, a tingling mysterious feeling (similar but not the same as what she feels on South Hoof). She loves the flowers, buildings and nature there. - Moorland Forge, for Conrad. - Agnetha and Björn’s gardens. - Wolf Hell Inn, she likes it there and (as mentioned) she likes seeing what weird stuff Ed is up to. - Dino Valley, she loves the winter, the solitude, and the challenge of survival (she’s an adventurer after all). - Crescent Moon Village, just for how cozy it is, and the Mirror Marshes, for its beauty. There’s a lot of spots around New Hillcrest and Epona she likes in general too. - Goldenhills Valley, she loves the autumn colours and the ruins, and takes an interest in the witchcraft that she sees, starting to wonder what’s good and bad magic. - Cape West, a cute little village to visit now and then. - Jarlaheim, as a place to hang out and shop / rest, after a day of helping out with farm chores around the area. - Greendale, where it seems like faeries might pop out if you’re quiet enough. - Ydris’ circus, because she can’t help but get curious about it. (I love circus / fairground aesthetics personally... I’m one of those people who’s always loved clowns and everyone else is like “what?! clowns are creepy man!”) - Mistfall and Firgrove are places she likes both for the nature and buildings, but she doesn’t tend to stay there long. - The Observatory, and other spots high up with great views, like the shortcut between Firgrove and Valedale, and the secret path up the mountain in Firgrove, too. - Aideen’s Plaza in Jorvik City, a cozy and fun place when you need a break from the countryside, especially if there’s an event / festival / market going on. - Pandoria? -- there’s certainly something about it...

6. Who’s their favorite horse? Why?

I’m going to say Juni doesn’t own any other horse than Winterborn, at least at this time. (Obviously I have lots in-game but for this OC story it doesn’t really make sense, so let’s say the rest aren’t canon, haha. Maybe they’re horses she’ll own later in life.)

7. What are their powers? Are they stronger with one Circle over any of the others?

Hmm... I dunno, I have to think more about this one. I probably want to draw some pictures to figure out more about her relation to magic and Pandoria and all that.

8. What’s their usual style? Any favorite tack sets or color themes for them?

She likes all colours and likes putting together new outfits and tack sets of various styles, but some particular favourite colours are red and purple, and overall her style tends to be bold and graphic rather than soft or gentle. She can do soft and gentle too though, when she feels like it!

9. Thoughts about Jorvik City? How do they feel about Rania’s petition for a horse-friendly Jorvik City?

She likes it there (especially Aideen’s Plaza as mentioned), but definitely thinks that there’s such a thing as “too much city” and has to retreat to nature after some time there. A horse-friendly city would be nice, as Winterborn would probably really enjoy getting spoiled with treats at the Plaza on a warm evening, getting petted by nice strangers.

10. Thoughts about Justin? (I’m sorry, I’m curious, he shows up so much)

She pities him in a kind way, thinks he’s sensitive and immature. She wouldn’t mind being friends with him once he starts growing as a person. She also likes lasagna, so they could organise a lasagna party together with the Bobcats sometime.

11. How do they feel about the magical horse race at the circus? Did they enjoy being a horse?

While she doesn’t like how Ydris treats people, she thought it was really interesting and insane, and had a lot of thoughts about what magic is / what magic can do after starting to come into contact with all its different types (Pi, Ydris, the soul riders and druids, etc etc). Maybe being able to turn into a horse at will and gallop around with Winterborn would be really cool!

12. Do they trust the Druids? Or how do they feel about them?

Once she starts getting to know about them, she trusts them as soon as she knows Conrad is involved with them, because she trusts him. Of course she doesn’t trust them 100%, due to all the weird stuff that goes on, but she trusts that they have good intentions even if it doesn’t always come out right, or maybe the right people aren’t in charge.

13. Least favorite NPC?

That’s a tough one... let’s just say she doesn’t like when people use or abuse others. However, she believes that anyone can change and become a better person, it’s just exceptionally hard for some people (and nobody is entitled to forgiveness). (Honestly it’s just difficult because I’m an open-minded person and I appreciate villainous *fictional* characters for their roles in a story, just as well as I appreciate the heroes and background characters. I don’t see a point in being pissy about fictional villains, they’re just part of a story, and in fiction everyone has a chance at bettering themselves. Plus, the victims of their actions are all fictional... nobody really got hurt. I wouldn’t think IRL people like Tr*mp is going to change for the better, plus even if he did he’s caused a lot of people a lot of harm, so IRL is another thing. but I can accept any character’s change and redemption in fiction because... it’s fiction, a fantasy.)

14. How do they make their money?

Before travelling she made them by doing odd jobs around South Hoof, now she does odd jobs around Jorvik. Often she’ll take a trade and do work for food and someplace to stay for the night instead of getting paid. She sells things she’s found and things she’s made now and then (having some skills in crafts).

15. How many horses do they own?

Same answer as before, as an OC she only owns Winterborn (right now).

16. How many pets do they have? What kind? What are their names?

I don’t think I want her to have any at this time, I might change my mind later. She loves the farm animals and the wild horses on South Hoof, of course, and helps take care of other people’s pets when needed. (I love my baby seal in the game though.)

17. How do they feel about the Soul Riders? Do they trust them? Feel like an outsider? Are they closer to some over the others?

I’ll have to decide on her role in the story and relating to the soul riders before I can answer that, so I’ll leave that for now. I don’t think she’s very close with any of them, if anything it’d be a somewhat good relation with Linda and Alex, I think.

18. Do they believe something mystical, magical, or otherwise strange really exists in Dino Valley? How did they feel about the leaving of the Kallter and the roar/scream/screech in the Valley?

There’s absolutely something strange about it, and her heart beats at the idea of more adventures there. The Kallters must have had a reason to leave.

19. Thoughts about Jorvik Wild Horses?

I think for headcanon OC story purposes, Jorvik Wild Horses and Starbreeds are probably the same thing? Just like, I’d go with that there’s a one type of magic horses with Jorvegian magic (or Pandorian) flowing through them, but then they can look different from each other. In the headcanon there wouldn’t be random Jorvik Wilds running around or anything, it’d be super special rare stuff like the Starbreeds are.

20. Do you think they are a Wild Whisperer? Or are they just bonded with their Soul Steed?

I’m not sure, leaning towards that she’s mostly just bonded with Winterborn. Maybe she has some level of whispering abilities but it’s definitely not one of her strongest skills.

21. What’s their favorite Jorvegian holiday or celebration?

All holidays, any excuse to celebrate, although she prefers peaceful and homely celebrations over parties or high-tempo events. Life is precious, so she celebrates every day to some degree (like I mentioned... sunset picnics, enjoying nature).

22. What do they think or feel about Pandoria? Have they or do they visit outside of the quests (using the rifts)? If they have or still do, why?

I think at the time I would place Juni’s story, she’s only starting to learn about Pandoria and is still confused and thoughtful about the different types and uses of magic. So what she’s going to think of Pandoria and what she’ll do about it would be something to figure out.

23. How has their visit(s) to Pandoria affected them? Do they have scars? Has it affected any of their life views?

See above. But also, since I want to explore Juni’s relation to magic, I’ll say I think the magic (or something else about Pandoria) might start to eat at her, and maybe she starts losing herself a bit the deeper she gets into those thoughts and the magic itself. (Hint... I think it’ll have to do with being an orphan and feeling alone and depressed.)

24. Would they ever consider working for Dark Core or believing their side?

No, I can’t imagine she would unless there was some very specific reason.

25. What or who is Garnok to them? A dark presence? A squid-like monster? A child with a ridiculously complicated jumping course (fuckin @’s Lizzy)?

I love Lizzy’s course lol, but maybe Garnok did have a hand in it... Anyway, I don’t think Juni knows anywhere near enough to have an understanding of Garnok at this point, so it’s just some vague thing the druids aren’t describing enough.

26. Do they ever go to the Disco? If they don’t, would they ever consider going? What would it take to make them go?

She goes sometimes, but she quickly gets tired of both dancing and socialising in crowds and has to wind down afterwards, maybe just sitting down at the disco balcony to look at the ocean, or heading down to the beach to lie down and rest. The evening ride back to her home on South Hoof (or to a place to stay in Moorland if the ferry stopped running) is a moment of winding-down, too.

27. Disco or Moorland Beach party?

The beach party is probably a little more chill, which suits her.

28. Are they interested in helping with archaeology or fishing?

She likes trying to do archaeology, and finds ancient (or just old) things really interesting, but she’s not necessarily the best at it. It’s something she does from time to time, or when someone asks for help. Fishing is something she’d only do when hanging out with someone else.

29. How do they feel about Igor, the waiter/manager of the Dino Valley cafe, and whom seemed interested in your horse for… “culinary reasons?”

She hopes he was joking, and appreciates his efforts in starting up the café since the Dino Valley crew is so small, and everyone needs each others’ help to survive and explore there.

30. Do they like the perpetual winter of Dino Valley or the perpetual autumn/fall of Goldenhills Valley, or is it strange to them? Do they prefer one over the other, or neither?

She likes them both, but she’s curious about what they’d look like if the seasons did change.

KHR 061: Feelings All Up in My Daily Life Arc

If for some reason you ever ask me what my favorite Daily Life chapter is, and I tell you I don’t have one, you should know that I am straight up lying, because I do and it’s this:

This was requested by @gokudirt! This is also the last of the chapter requests, but seeing as it takes place right before the start of the Kokuyou arc, I’m thinking I might just continue the reviews chronologically from here. At least until I finally tire of doing this (which could be a good long while from now).

Anyway, let’s discuss Target 61, which started me on a path of being obsessed with Gokudera Hayato for the rest of my life.

Before we get to the actual chapter, I want to take a moment to appreciate that title page up there, because I think it’s the first time Amano successfully achieved what she was so obviously trying to do from the very start, which is to make Gokudera’s hair sexy. It’s not at peak sexiness yet, but it’s come so, so far from his intro nearly 60 chapters ago. I attribute this to him finally turning fourteen. We all know thirteen is a very awkward age.

Unfortunately the change is not quiiite permanent just yet, as we can observe on the very next page.

The thing is, I feel like she’s getting better at drawing him from side angles, but from directly front-on it’s a whole different story. His hair is still doing the thing where the back parts stick out awkwardly at extreme pointy angles, and also his bangs hang down way too straight and rigidly, like they’re one big sticking-together blob, instead of being all soft and ~wispy-looking~ the way they get to be later on.

I, a fully grown adult woman who apparently has nothing better to do than to analyze Gokudera’s hair and rant about it for multiple paragraphs, can actually tell you the exact moment when that transformation finally becomes permanent and perfect, and it’s right at the very start of the Future arc, immediately after TYL!Gokudera poofs back into normal Gokudera. It’s like Amano drew TYL!Gokudera’s hairstyle, and then suddenly everything just clicked about what the teenage version’s hair was always meant to be. It’s a beautiful thing. Haha, this chapter recap is going to be waaaay too long and very singularly focused, isn’t it.

Suddenly some thugs appear, because I guess they just wanted to get their asses kicked by the future Vongola Tenth’s right hand man!

Firstly, “as if there weren’t already this heat” is SUCH a July 2018 mood, so thank you, Gokudera.

Second, he’s really fucking violent here and I kind of adore it. He’s so often a glutton for punishment that it’s sort of nice on those rare occasions where he gets to kick ass himself. Especially here where it gets really physical with elbows and knees and the whole business! Usually this kind of brutality is Hibari’s domain.

Anyway, it turns out they were sent by Dino!

STILL SO HANDSOME. How come there were never any problems with his hair??

At any rate, Dino has some “good news” for Gokudera. (FYI those aren’t just any quotation marks--those are full blown sarcastic air quotes.) Now that he’s fourteen (ALL GROWN UP), the Ninth has apparently decided to promote him and put him in charge of a bunch of casinos. That makes so much sense! And he asked Dino to tell Gokudera because Dino is basically an honorary Vongola. That part actually does make sense. Does anyone really think of the Cavallone as a separate family? Pretty sure no one is raising their hand.

What great news! Oh but there’s just one small thing; the job is in Italy! Which, aside from probably not being Gokudera’s favorite place in the world for a multitude of other reasons, is also notably NOT where Tsuna is.

This is followed by one of my favorite Gokudera moments in the entire series.

Okay let’s press pause and engage rant mode.

So as we all know (I assume? Unless you’ve never actually read this chapter, in which case go do it! because it’s great and I love it!!), this whole thing is actually some kind of fucked-up loyalty test that the Ninth came up with, because for some reason he was suspicious of Gokudera and whether or not he’d actually stay devoted to Tsuna. So they figured they’d offer him a token power position, and see if he’d take them up on it, even if it meant abandoning his boss!

Here’s why that’s the most ludicrous fucking thing anyone has ever tried to do in this entire series.

SERIOUSLY? YOU NEEDED TO TEST GOKUDERA GODDAMN HAYATO’S GODDAMN LOYALTY TO THE GODDAMN TENTH? HAVE YOU EVER MET GOKUDERA?? PLEASE SPEND TWO FUCKING MINUTES WITH HIM AND THEN COME BACK AND APOLOGIZE TO ME ON YOUR KNEES FOR WASTING ALL OUR FUCKING TIME.

But okay, for some reason the Ninth has inexplicably become an outrageously bad judge of character. So fine, let’s test Gokudera’s loyalty. Except that

HE PASSES THE TEST ALMOST BEFORE THEY CAN EVEN GIVE HIM THE TEST TO BEGIN WITH.

Seriously. “Gokudera here’s a promotion for you but you’ll have to leave Tsuna and go to Ital—” “WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THE ONE I FOLLOW IS THE TENTH NOT THE NINTH, IF IT’S GOING TO BE LIKE THIS THEN I’M NOT GONNA DO IT.” Dino, your response should be, “Well, shit, okay then,” and then you walk off and tell the Ninth what an asshole he was to even fucking try this.

But instead!!!

So Gokudera already passed the test, which is all about being loyal to Tsuna, but Dino tries to guilt him by insisting that staying is selfish, and leaving is actually the best way to serve Tsuna? What kind of damned-if-you-do bullshit is this? We’re trying to see how loyal you are, so we’ll tell you how to be loyal, but if you listen to us you will actually fail the test. What the fuck kind of fucking logic…

Anyway, lacking any other type of mentor figure (because Shamal is a fucking deadbeat), Gokudera goes to talk to Reborn about it.

WTF WHO’S THIS RANDO—

REBORN-SAN YOU APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE

Things I will never get tired of: this fucking gag.

So Gokudera explains his problems, but he frames them in such a way so as to make it seem like he’s worried that Tsuna won’t be able to get along without him, when of course it’s really the exact fucking opposite. Reborn is exactly as helpful as you would expect Reborn to be.

Having just savagely murdering Gokudera’s hopes and dreams, Reborn proceeds to set a challenge for him.

Hahaha. Okay, so. On the surface, this seems really fucking harsh, and kind of like Reborn is trolling the ever-loving shit out of Gokudera in this chapter just for giggles. However, I don’t think that’s what’s actually going on. But I’ll get to that in a bit.

So Gokudera accepts this challenge like the sweet delusional child he is, and goes to visit Tsuna.

Tsuna’s just so fucking thrilled to see him.

DO YOU GET IT THE WAVELENGTHS ARE DIFFERENT Critical lack of communication and understanding between these two kids who are trying to be best friends but neither of them has the slightest fucking clue how to do it. That’s all I’m saying.

This is something that’s better suited for an essay, so I’ll leave it alone for now, but it’s just interesting to note the contrasts in how they think of each other at this stage in their friendship.

But Tsuna ignores this completely and calls his mom because of course he does. What else are moms even there for?

Next, Maman calls Tsuna for help moving the couch. You can see where this is going.

…Okay, I was trying to hold off on essaying about this until the end, but this in particular is the perfect example of what this chapter is trying to get at (and outright says later on). Tsuna and Gokudera occupy different positions in each other’s minds, and right now, these feelings don’t line up. Gokudera thinks of Tsuna as his boss—someone above him. But Tsuna does not think of Gokudera as his subordinate (someone below him). He thinks of him as his friend! An equal!

But unlike Gokudera, Tsuna is actually aware of this dissonance between them. After all, Gokudera makes no secret of the fact that he worships Tsuna. And because Tsuna doesn’t like it, he goes out of his way not to actually treat Gokudera like a subordinate. Therefore, he doesn’t ask Gokudera to do menial tasks for him like killing a bug or moving the couch. If they actually were more like normal friends, he probably wouldn’t hesitate! But since Gokudera constantly treats him like a boss as it is, the last thing Tsuna wants to do is actively encourage it and actually start bossing Gokudera around in any sort of way.

This is something Gokudera just doesn’t get, and I’m 100% sure is one of the main reasons why Reborn came up with this challenge for him to begin with. Because if these two are ever going to learn to understand each other better, Gokudera needs to realize this for himself.

Anyway.

Next up, Lambo haphazardly endangers someone’s life again because that is basically his sole function in the entire Daily Life arc. Long story short, he blows up a telephone pole, which proceeds to fall over, nearly killing Tsuna in the process. Fortunately, Gokudera is there to save the—

Well. He tried.

Anyway, once this is all over, and Gokudera apologizes, Tsuna finally asks him what’s wrong, because of course he was able to tell because he’s the best, TSUNA I LOVE YOU. So Gokudera tells him all about the promotion.

Tsuna acts fucking thrilled and over the moon for him and insists on throwing a party to congratulate him, and I’m sorry but I have to stop and rant AGAIN, because Amano packed so many feelings into this simple little chapter, and I don’t have any more room in my closet to put them!! So I’m just going to vomit them all over my blog s-sigh.

Tsuna is not thrilled to hear that Gokudera is going back to Italy. He is not actually happy. But he pretends to be happy, for Gokudera’s sake. Whoa there, HOLD THE FUCK UP because LOOK AT THIS SUPER SNEAKY CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT THAT JUST DIVEBOMBED IN OUT OF NOWHERE.

So Tsuna has gone from being terrified of Gokudera, to genuinely thinking of him as a friend! To the point where not only is he upset to learn that he might be leaving, but he’s also conscious enough of Gokudera’s own feelings to pretend that he’s not upset and to try and support Gokudera as much as possible.

And maybe that doesn’t seem like such a big deal, but it is, because if you go back to some of the earlier chapters and look at their relationship, it’s so fucking different from this. The only emotion Tsuna ever seems to show around Gokudera in the early chapters is “stressed.” There is literally a chapter dedicated to making fun of the fact that all Gokudera ever does is stress Tsuna out and all Tsuna ever does is complain about it.

Fast-forward to here, where Tsuna has become completely accepting of Gokudera’s weird behavior and just rolls with it, because underneath that initially scary layer of “wacky, destructive, overly-devoted Gokudera” is a solid core of “Gokudera who is my friend.” They’ve known each other for a year and a half now, and Gokudera has always been there for Tsuna no matter what—even when that commitment only ends up causing more trouble—and Tsuna has finally come to appreciate it. And it’s about damn time too, because Gokudera Hayatos don’t just grow on trees! KEEP APPRECIATING HIM, TSUNA. You lucky bastard.

Sob so where was I oh my god. Okay so Gokudera gets a ton of warm fuzzies from this and decides that he really will go to Italy, for Tsuna’s sake. Because remember, Dino is a fucking liar.

So Gokudera runs off! BUT SUDDENLY he realizes he left his lighter at Tsuna’s house. How convenient! And at this very same moment, Reborn abruptly decides to initiate a conversation with Tsuna all about how much he really does appreciate Gokudera as a friend and doesn’t actually want him to leave. ALSO CONVENIENT.

Except I don’t think for one second this is a coincidence, and in fact, I fully believe that Reborn actually stole Gokudera’s lighter, waited for him to realize it and come back, and then purposely went and got Tsuna monologuing at exactly the right moment for Gokudera to “accidentally” overhear it. Yep.

Am I giving Reborn too much credit here? Maybe. But then again, maybe not, because it’s Reborn, and if you don’t think he’s playing the long game with Tsuna’s future right hand man just as much as he is with Tsuna himself, then you may just be underestimating him.

Anyway, so we then get a page or two of Tsuna blabbing about his complicated Gokudera feelings, but since I already essayed about them above, I will spare you the rehash.

Gokudera overhears it and has a Moment of Feels and decides he will stay in Japan because Tsuna wants him there, as his friend, and to Tsuna that’s more important than Gokudera serving him in Italy as just his subordinate.

If you don’t think that’s exactly what Reborn fucking planned, then clearly we are not reading this series with the same conspiracy goggles.

The next day, a wild Yamamoto appears (wow it’s so weird how you run into people at the airport don’t you think that’s weird), all set to go on a trip to Italy with Dino, because Gokudera told him that was a thing that was happening, so obviously Yamamoto believed him because WHY WOULD GOKUDERA EVER LIE.

This is adorable, and while you may think it was kind of dumb of Yamamoto to actually pack his bags and everything, you have to consider that it’s impossible for anyone to actually say no to that face. Which was probably his back-up plan, AND IT FUCKING WORKED, too.

Dino is happy that Gokudera didn’t come, and Reborn pops up and they have a very disturbing conversation about how there was a plot to murder this innocent child if he actually did fall for their fucked up bait-and-switch, and even though Dino says he would have secretly helped Gokudera escape if it came to that, I still kind of want to punch him in his handsome face, just a little bit.

But Reborn knew all along it wouldn’t happen.

Because he’s the master fucking manipulator raising the splendid tenth generation of the Vongola, and we’re all just here to watch him do his thing

Finally this chapter ends, on two note-perfect moments.

This may honestly be my favorite line in the series.

And words can’t express how much I love the fact that Dino, faced with the prospect of turning down Yamamoto’s innocently smiling face, decided it would be easier and less taxing on his soul to just actually fly him out to Italy for a nice vacation. I wonder how many times Takeshi has pulled this kind of bullshit with his dad. I wonder if anyone has ever turned him down for anything, if it comes to that. Dino, you done been played.

#150: Francesco Gabbani -- Occidentali's Karma (Italy 2017)

I remember how hyped Occidentali's Karma was before the contest--it racked up views like a wind machine, and it looked like everything was going in its favor. And for good reason.

Even within the title (because it uses English possessives, rather than in Italian, Occidentali's Karma satirizes those in the West who romanticize or even appropriates East Asian culture and/or philosophy. Rereading the translation, it's curious because Covid-19 increased anti-Asian sentiment to the point of violence across the world. But there were so many good references.

Along with an upbeat tempo, the question going into rehearsals was where Italy was going to host the contest the following year. (It's not as hyped as Fur Alle, see #227 to see how that turned out and why their other entry was better) Unfortunately, that was not meant to be, as a combination of the three-minute cut (which is why I attached the Sanremo performance instead), Francesco's progressive tiredness with performing the song, and the staging sunk it from the top five completely. For some reason, the latter didn't bother me as much, though I could see why people would see it as more gimmicky in the end.

And with Italy's other entries in the future, it doesn't seem like it holds up as well. But the "Namaste, ale!" part doesn't fail to amplify a crowd.

#149: Youddiph -- Vechny Strannik (Russia 1994)

“Вечный странник, я твоя судьба, Знаю, помнишь обо мне Ты всегда в пути, но для тебя Яркий свет в моём окне,”

“Eternal wanderer, I'm your destiny, I know, you will remember me You are always on the way, but there is always A bright light for you in my window”

A bit eccentric from Russia, but it makes for a worthy debut, part of a three-song stretch of them towards the end. I like how the lyrics told a story about the two separated lovers, and they are really poetic!

But I sometimes get lost with the more relaxed verses against the explosive chorus. The former reminds me of an instrumental to beat poetry; I would sometime mimic "Poetry by Gary" there, whereas the latter feels like something that would be in other ballads during the time. It took multiple listens to reconcile the two; the orchestration really helps.

Youddiph switches between the two forms, well, going from , and the scarlet multi-functional dress is a highlight. Which way did she wear it is your favorite?

#148: Mocededes -- Eres tú (Spain 1973)

“Como mi poema, eres tú, eres tú, Como una guitarra en la noche, Todo mi horizonte, eres tú, eres tú, Así, así, eres tú,”

“Like my poem, you are, you are, Like a guitar in the night My whole horizon, you are, you are Like that, like that, you are”

The lyrics are so pure—telling a loved one that they remind them of all the good things in life, all sung really well by a really professional choir. It touched me the first time I listened to it, and found it really sweet even after multiple listens. The instrumentation adds to that feeling, which makes it unsurprising that it has become a well-beloved classic even to this day.

Curiously, when they released the single internationally, they had the Spanish-version on the A-side and the English one on the B-side. The radio stations prefered to play the former, which led to it garnering fame across the Americas and Europe. It was even #9 on the US Billboard 100 at one point, making it one of the few non-English songs to do so well there. And it's been covered over and over again.

In addition, it still holds Spain's highest point total at Eurovision, with 125 points. And that's after multiple voting system changes and an increase of countries participating. Then again, that's its power!

#147: Dulce Pontes -- Lusitana paixão (Portugal 1991)

“Mmm... fado, só quando a saudade vem, Arrancar do meu passado um grande amor...”

“Mmm... fado, just when the longing comes, Pulling a great love back from my past”

For the record, this is not a fado song, but rather a song discussing about the singer’s relationship with the genre in a standard early 1990s ballad. However, Dulce would go on to become one of Portugal's most famous fado singers, especially with the track Canção do Mar.

This doesn't mean that Lusitana paixao is anyway inferior, though!

As a result, the songs calming, but the lyrics indicate some yearning to convey the pain. The chorus is a bit weaker than the verses (despite being the rare example of "major-verse/minor-chorus"), but the orchestration in them, combined with Dulce’s vocals, makes it shine.

#146: Conchita Wurst -- Rise Like a Phoenix (Austria 2014)

"You know I will rise like a phoenix But you’re my flame"

(Maybe I should've had Lusitana Paixao at #146 to keep up the Eurovision 1991 references, right? #allora)

If there's anything noticeable in Rise Like a Phoenix, it's how resilient and fierce it is, while establishing a sense of glamour.

It starts off with an orchestral intro, and the first verse is quiet, before it starts blooming further and further through the song. The lyrics have a sense of bite about them--the narrator is hurt, but they will use their pain to become even stronger. And the staging helps with the concept; through the use of lighting, we get to see Conchita more, from the silhouette in the beginning to her full form by the end of the song, decked in gold and fully assured.

Rise Like a Phoenix was one of the first Eurovision songs I listened beyond the 2016-7 timeframe (or at least, one of the first that I liked enough to draw some fanart). The whole piece doesn't get lost in a soundtrack (a lot of comments talk about how it could fit in a James Bond movie), and it holds itself firm and dignified. And while I'm not part of the LGBTQ+ community, I could understand somewhat why something like this is important.

And it's absolutely glamorous.

#145: The Common Linnets -- Calm After the Storm (the Netherlands 2014)

“I just wanna know if staying is better than goodbye...”

Both Rise Like a Phoenix and Calm After the Storm weren't seen as contenders before rehearsals, as the former "leaned on a gimmick" and the latter wasn't "stereotypically Eurovision" enough and too low-key. It took a couple of great stagings; whereas "Rise Like a Phoenix" plays with fire and revealing who one is, "Calm After the Storm deals with the melancholy and tension after a relationship, and does so fantastically. (cries in 2018)

The following lyric is a pretty hard-hitting one from an otherwise serene-sounding song. The story in it also deals with this stasis; while "calm after the storm” implies a return back to normal, the lyrics also indicate an ambiguity towards the state of this broken ship. (Looking over it, I still can't believe how clever the title is) The fallout creates an emptiness, and sometimes the silence is louder than any shouting. It’s definitely worth a listen, and I don’t listen to country often!

(On whether Calm after the Storm would've made the better winner, I'm not sure. I can agree it's the more thoughtful song and would've opened the doors to more genres, but Rise Like a Phoenix had just as much of an impact. Of the winner-runner-up pairs of the 2010s, this is the one I'm down the middle about. Both are so good...)

#144: Dino Merlin -- Love in Rewind (Bosnia and Herzegovina 2011)

“One to a hundred, multiplied by you, It all looks great, it all looks cool, Healthy children go to school, My daughter's in love, my son loves too..."

If you ask most Eurovision fans on what's their favorite Bosnian entry is, it usually comes down to one of three options. Love in Rewind is the most recent of them, but still has its charms. (Don't worry, you'll find out what the other two are in due time...)

A happy song which relishes on the beauty of life, Love in Rewind has the narrator appreciate the little things in life, despite the minor-key(?) tone throughout. Dino conveys this cheery feeling well, and the people on stage definitely add to this familial scene, from the chorus to Maya's piano playing and everything else in between. It's really enough to give you those warm feelings inside. (And if you don't, what kind of person are you?!)

For a song which performed second in the final, Love in Rewind also did quite well, with a solid sixth place! Though in an average year like 2011, it deserved the win.

#143: Cliff Richard -- Power to All Our Friends (United Kingdom 1973)

“Power to the boys who played rock 'n' roll And made my life so sweet And to the girls I knew before And those I've yet to meet”

It's funny I'm writing this now, because the most recent #Eurovisionagain was 1968, which featured the hit "Congratulations" and it losing Eurovision by one point, haha.

Cliff Richard’s second entry is a bit less remembered than his first, but I think it’s quite better. From the rock and roll vibes of this one to the celebratory lyrics, it brings a spark of joy and modernity to the 1973 contest. Speaking of modernity, Power to All Our Friends was the first song to use some playbacked elements--the orchestral drummers are doing nothing in the background during the chorus. Though the orchestra did help with emphasizing the grandness of this song.

Cliff’s dancing, on the other hand, hasn’t changed and still remains very awkward. He also stayed in the bathroom when the voting came along, and then Spain was now one of two countries which beat him. I'm kind of surprised that he never had a grudge against the country.

#142: Rollo and King -- Never Ever Let You Go (Denmark 2001)

“I’ll never ever be the same since you left me lonely So please come back to me again”

Isn't this wholesome? From the opening harmonica solo, one can expect a really happy and warm song. Rollo and King deliver the joy in spades, and Signe's arrival in the second verse made the whole crowd at Parken cheer. What a moment.

I love how the duo's voices work and the lyrical content of the song (though sometimes I'm a bit confused about if the narrator changed or not...). It's very sunny and cute, which makes it shine at the end of the lineup. While it doesn't have the same "movie-ending" feel as In a Moment Like This (#164), it still does the job well. The ukelele parts also bring a bit of spice to it; "I even really liked "I Don't Feel Hate" from this year because of its similarities with their riff!

I actually like this more than "Fly on the Wings of Love", though they both share this comfy, acoustic vibe. But that's what Denmark does best in the contest--bubbly cute songs, and Never Ever Let You go is the best of them. (But don't worry, there's still more Danish songs to come!)

#141: Sergey Lazarev -- You are the Only One (Russia 2016)

“Won’t ever give up ’cause you’re still somewhere out there Nothing or no one’s gonna keep us apart”

The top three of 2016 all had something compelling about them, which made them shine from the bunch. They had songs of different genres, but the performances make them stand out from the rest of the crowd, with highly capable singers.

You are the Only One pops out right away with the opening bell, and follows through a dramatic arc about finding the one. While there are questions about how ”dated” the song is, the production is quite awesome and adds to the drama. I always imagine a cool music video where one traverses across the city and trying to find someone for comfort. It would make a very fitting soundtrack.

And Sergey is a great performer, handling the evolved wall staging with ease. There were some angles that made it give the fact away to the viewer, but seeing Sergey sing and climb and announce that someone was the "only one" wowed everyone, including me.

No wonder I listened to this so many times when I started following Eurovision!

Kent doesn’t look like he’s ready to bolt, but he did seem skittish, and in the movie, Julia Roberts had been very skittish. “No, never,” Kent says, taking Alexei’s hands and rubbing his thumb over Alexei’s palms. His hair is already a little mussed, the untamable cowlick threatening to pop back up. “Not about you. I know I’m an ass about a lot of things, but you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” “Good to know,” Alexei says, letting out a breath of relief. “You tell me now, then what you say for vows?” “Oh, God,” Kent laughs nervously. “Oh man. Fandom Talk #1 (Undertale) Yessssssss i can finally draw digitally Okay, I had no idea what to draw or who to draw, so I wanna draw characters from my fandoms, and talk about it, like their characters and their plotline. So I'm starting from new to old (first one i have recently joined until the last one which i have entered first). And guess what, Undertale is on top of the list. Wow. Yes, i know FNAF fans will hate me rite nao i love fnaf and undertale plz dont judge Note, I haven't had much time to research about Undertale, so anything I say may be incorrect information. Most of the information I recieved came from my brother, who forced me into this fandom, but he, like me, is also quite new, so he doesn't know much. Please inform me down in the comment section below if I had made any sort of mistake. So, let's talk about Undertale: Undertale is a charming, RPG, strategy game that is both clever in tactics and beautiful in graphics. Basically, you play as a girl named Frisk(or Chara, I really don't know XP) who fell into a hole and entered the Underground. A talking flower named Flowey the Flower found her and coaxed her to get these white balls that I can't remember the name of. But once you touch one of these motherf*ckers, your HP goes all the way to 1, and Flowey's 'innocent af' face turned into a 'haha b*tch im a demon' face, and utters the four infamous words: "Kill or BE killed." Before he does kill you, though, you were saved by a female goat named Toriel, who is absolutely amazing and is my favorite characters out of the Undertale crew, and guides you through the Ruins. She brings you to her home and bakes you a butterscotch-cinnamon pie(Question, what does it taste like, tho? Is it really sweet or...?). But Frisk, being the lil piece of sh*t she is, forces Toriel to tell her the way back home. Toriel then tries to destroy the Gate, but you stop her either by killing her or by sparing her. If you spare her, she would put her fears and loneliness aside just for you(Frisk), but she requests you not to come back. She hugs you, utters goodbye, and disappears. Honestly, I was crying at this part because it relates to some of my personal problems. When you enter the Gate, you meet the b*tcheloid Flowey, and after he said something that I, once again, can't remember, you go past him and open another door, your adventure begins. You meet the humerus Sans(see what I did there???), the Great Papyrus, Temmies, fierce Undyne, timid Alphys, and fabulous Mettaton. (this part all came from my bro's mouth and knowledge, so there may be some mistakes) Now, when you get to fight Papyrus, you also have two options: kill him or spare him. Killing him will result in you fighting Sans, which I forgot to mention is Pap's brother, in the boss battle. Same options will be present to you: kill Sans or spare Sans. But if you spare Papyrus, then you get to fight Asgore in the boss battle, the King of the Underground, which, in this case, has no second option. You really have to kill him. Honestly, I have no f*cking idea what will happen after you finish either battle, so I believe you go home or some other cliche sh*t. Undertale falls under the RPG genre, mostly 8-bit(and that is my favorite kind of genre, im telling ya), and in it is mostly fighting Temmies and frogs, but there is one appealing feature that sets it apart from the other RPG games; the option to kill or to spare. Seriously, this is why I love it. I could be a peaceful pacifist, or I could become a mortal murderer, and both have different endings. If I am a murderer, I would have to face Sans. If I am a pacifist, then I would have to face Asgore. Another feature that sets Undertale from the rest is how you battle the enemy. You have to move your SOUL, which is the heart, and dodge all the attacks whilst trying to either kill or spare the enemy. That's a smart idea. I have heard from my bro that there is an additional character named Asriel Dreemurr, son of Asgore and Toriel?? Asriel, as my bro said, was stuck inside Flowey, but idk why. Maybe he was condemned by Asgore for his bad deeds or sumthin??? i dont really know plz help Okay, onto the characters!! Flowey the Flower: His color palette reminds me of a dandelion and I have no idea why. But to me, he's definitely 'a lion on the cold, hard, floor'. Eh?? EH??? k ill shut up now. I love the idea of making him all sweet and innocent when you first met him and when he gave you some of his 'Flowey flakes', he turn all demonic and sh*t. Definitely a cliche, but hey, I love cliches. Toriel: Man, do I feel sad and guilty when she was trying to be a good goat mom TwT goat mom is best mom. I love her character design. She looks like a goat, but at the same time, she looks like a creature belonging to a mysterious fantasy world. Her color palette is pretty, and her personality of being a loving mother-teacher nanny(for those who doesn't know, a nanny is a female goat) is spot on. Honestly, I would give up everything just to be with her. Yes, I have a problem, deal with it. Sans: I love this character a lot for his humerus and punny jokes(dammit he's turning me into another joker damn you sans), and I actually laughed when I realized the font they used whenever he speaks is actually Comic Sans, which I unbelievably like, because I am pretty sure most of you hates Comic Sans. He seems like a couch potato, but dayum he's really loyal when it comes to his brother Pap. His color palette is pretty good tho Papyrus: The idea of making his color palette the opposite color of his brother Sans is absolutely perfect. I also noticed his font is actually Papyrus, hence the name. This is a very, very, very clever idea. His personality of being proud, kind of oblivious, a wee bit arrogant can't beat his determination of joining the Royal Guard, and that alone can print a smile on my face. Frisk: I love/hate her. Love, because her attempt at 'flirting' with the jellies and actually eating spider donut sounds funny. Hate, because why the f*ck can't she be content with staying by Toriel's side?? Her color palette seems nice, but almost everything, from looking at some flowers to looking at Tori's house, fills her with determination, for some goddamn reason. But this is a pretty creative way to replenish your HP. Temmie: Wait, what- Undyne: Her personality is definitely fishy(damn cant help it). I like her color palette. Idk much about her, but her spears look pretty badass, damn Alphys: I can't say I don't ship her with Undyne OwO Her color palette looks cute, although I guess the creator loves white a lot. Alphys is probably the only scientist I've seen on Undertale .I am not sure what kind of animal or creature she is, but she looks like an adorable, shy dino bab, and no one can convince me otherwise. Mettaton: This fab bot is the Undertale equivalent of Ballora from FNAF SL. His, or her, color palette fits it(im calling him/her 'it' from nao on). I love the fact that it can turn into a keyboard/television box on wheels. Asgore: I don't know much about him, but he has the WRONG idea to break that 'Mercy' button. Okay, that's all I know. I am absolutely sorry if I have missed some characters, like the spider queen(???) Muffet. I'll try to learn more about Undertale, because obviously, I have more to learn. KHR 256: Mukuro Saves the World

So yesterday when I was requesting random KHR chapter numbers, @attwnone picked 256! So let’s dive into it.

Fun fact: This chapter takes place right during the most confusing part of the entire Future Arc, which itself is easily the most confusing of all the arcs, what with its 17,000 plot twists and its attempts to actually be three separate arcs. So here’s some context for anyone who hasn’t perused this series for a while:

This takes place right after the end of Choice (which FYI the Vongola fucking lost after 25 chapters of build-up. but no big).

The Vongola are still on the Choice battlefield along with Byakuran’s team

Irie just explained to everyone how Byakuran can see into parallel worlds and shit and that’s how he became an unstoppable supervillain

Uni just showed up two chapters prior and now Byakuran wants to kidnap her (also she has all the Arco pacifiers)

The Vongola are trying to escape from him because he’s fucking nuts

One chapter ago, this happened. Never forget.

And then this guy made a quiet, dignified entrance.

Okay, off to the races!

 First of all, everyone’s still wearing their Vongola uniforms from Choice, which are super fucking adorable on these little tykes. Tsuna looks like he’s attending his bar mitzvah.

Anyway so TYL!Mukuro just appeared to fight Byakuran, and Tsuna is freaking out, while Chrome is just blushing and (pretty sure) also having impure thoughts about her ten-years-older crush.

I can’t blame her; he is a good-looking man.

Has anyone ever noticed how Byakuran does this a lot with his hand, and the art makes it look really cool, but in reality it would probably be super cheesy? He’s just holding his hand up dramatically in front of his face, making a fist, aiming it in the wrong direction, and then diving at people.

How does Mukuro address people when he doesn’t actually know their full name? I have to assume he goes out of his way to avoid talking to them at all so as not to look like some sort of one-name-using knave.

Did he only just notice this?? I mean, it’s the same idiot who thought Adult!Reborn was SOME SWASHBUCKLING ROGUE IN A FEDORA, but still, come on.

I really love how Byakuran is all smiles like always, but you can tell he’s not-so-secretly REALLY PISSED that Mukuro is actually still alive. “I’m sure that I erased your soul”—how was this guy ever actually redeemed, again??

It’s not your fault, Byakuran, there was really no way you could have known about Fran ahead of time. I’m pretty sure that guy just aggressively retconned himself into existence and then pretended like he had been there the whole time, and everyone just went along with it and suddenly he was the most popular character in Japan.

I fucking can’t with this guy. MUKURO DO YOU THINK YOU’RE BEING DRAMATIC ENOUGH RIGHT NOW? I THINK IT COULD USE A COUPLE EXTRA FLASHES OF LIGHTNING AND A GUST OF WIND OR TWO. MAYBE A BOOMING VOICE TALKING ABOUT OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

The way Tsuna’s name is all scrunched up in that speech bubble, combined with Dino’s expression, gives me the impression that he’s sneezing this line, and now I can’t stop laughing.

Sometimes I think that ever since Tsuna topped him in the Kokuyou Arc, Mukuro has lowkey been the most heroic, virtuous, lawful-good-aligned motherfucker in the entire series. I’m trying to remember if he ever did something other than sacrifice himself to save everyone else’s asses, and I’m coming up short. (The Arco Arc doesn’t count because everyone was fighting anyway, he was trying to help out the cursed babies, and also he was fighting with Chrome only because he wanted to keep protecting her. Actually, the Arco Arc really supports this whole “good and pure” theory, come to think.)

So yeah, we’re all agreed on this, right? Guy’s basically ready to lift Thor’s hammer at this point.
