omg first of all thank you for sending this also i just saw your header and that’s such a slay

this is SUCH a good question and i know it’s so controversial so this is just my personal take!! i totally understand why people might think it’s wrong-

but i do believe that annie was a career and volunteered for the games. i think all victors are damaged from their games in a way and annie is just a different (perhaps more extreme?) example of the affects of being in the arena.

the thing is, you can have all the training in the world- but nothing really prepares you for that kind of violence. especially not seeing your district partner, someone you knew, being decapitated. that is extremely heavy and traumatizing to witness even for someone who volunteered for it. and yes, maybe most careers wouldn’t be impacted by that to the extent that by the human brain is a weird thing and all people react differently.

i saw someone make the comparison between soldiers signing up to join the military and still coming out deeply traumatized by what they saw and i think that’s a pretty good example. you can know what you’re getting into, you can train, you can do whatever- but you’re never truly 100% prepared to go through something like that.

in my opinion, that actually makes her a much more interesting- and no less sympathetic- character! i think a lot of people don’t want to associate annie (and even finnick i see a lot) with being “careers” because the careers are associated with being the bad guys and no one wants their faves to be the bad guys. but the careers were not evil/bad people- they were brainwashed children. but that’s another rant for another day.

so yeah idk if any of that even made sense but basically:

You know, i feel about Sam and Darlin the way i feel about a lot of Redacted's character, I think they're criminally underutilized and i love everything that they could have been. Redacted's characters often, in my opinion, start out really strong with a lot of potential, and then all that potential and personality fizzles out as they get into relationships/their stories start to move forward. Thats.... not how relationships work, but i guess that's what happens when you shelf plot for fluff so often. It's really quite sad.

We had Sam, who was this mysterious Solaire vampire with a country accent and he somehow knew healing magic good enough to save Lovely's life. We got some of that southern sass that i am so familiar with in the beginning of Darlin's videos, and then it slowly started to reveal a little bit of care. Their story was supposed to be a slow burn, but it wasn't. They got into a relationship alarmingly fast for a character who wanted to take things "slow, very slow." And then...... Sam's personality got fucking sapped out of him, or at least that's definitely what it felt like.

And Darlin started out so strong as well! This (also mysterious) estranged lone wolf from one of the most influential packs in the city out on a search for a rouge old blood vampire. They were stubborn and reckless and chasing after a convoluted dream of killing a vampire that was way too strong for them in an attempt to act selflessly and ended up putting their entire pack in danger. Aaaaaand then they got a "Love Conquers All ❤️" speech from their Alpha who they are incredibly distanced from and some southern vampire cock and BOOM! Personality gone.

It's such a shame how often Redacted does this to characters and plot lines, its like he's immune to writing a story and characters that don't pathetically skid to a halt and underwhelm you. It probably has something to do with the audience and the potential (very likely, very common) backlash he'd get if he actually wrote something with some stakes, which i have talked about a lot (the relationship between Erik and the fandom, there's posts about it linked in my pinned post about it, and also linked in an ask i just answered today)

Just another example of why oh why i so desperately hope everything comes crashing down as the resolution to the overarching plot of the channel.

Hmm... I'd say it depends. If the little hurt includes something like referring to a major traumatic event like an abusive episode or a torture event or soft things like sickfics, then yes. Y. E. S. I'm all for it. Gimme the feels and the comfort to go along with it. But if it's something like Character A got a bullet graze or had a little wittle panic moment, then... meh. Mid.

I want strong emotions. I read fanfiction for strong emotions. My brains needs to be constantly stimulated by strong emotions in order for me to live through another day without wanting to tear someone to shreds just because they chew a little too loudly. (Side note: I read somewhere that it's because of trauma that your brain is constantly stimulated and stuff, so... yeah idk what to say about that).

But when there's that underline of angst? *Claps hands and tears up, swiveling in my spinny chair* I love it.

If it's done right, then I like it even more than hurt no comfort.

It's not because I'm prejudiced, it's because I can't handle confrontations. But! I'm going to... try and share something because I did not think there would be controversy amongst the whump community, but I'm not surprised that there is.

Okay, after doing some research... I'm still at a blank.

Though I did come across some interesting notions between whump lovers and non whump lovers.

Some people think it's sick to torture a character with stuff like abuse and rape and everything. (Which just makes me question: It's okay if the torture seems unrealistic like an alien beam blast, but not what humans do every day like hit their kids? But anywayyyy.) Uh, well, there are a lot of reasons people do that. One article which I read on whump (can't believe there are actual articles about this, it's just so normal to me), said that a Tumblr blog said that whump is born out of love for the characters. You can do your own research on that one, cuz it'll take too long to explain.

For me, that's actually true. I love reading hurt tim drake fics because... well, im not completely sure. It's not because I get endorphins while seeing him in pain (except when I'm writing 🤭), it's also that I... like seeing him push through and react to the whump. I like how different authors have different ideas of how he would behave in not-so-ideal situations. I like how there are different ideas on which situations he would find himself in.

But most of all, I like seeing him in situations where he can get out. Where he can escape that situation. Where I cannot. The same goes with writing, I like imagining up whump situations because I can imagine that character also making it out.

There are so many reasons. Some of which are I like seeing Tim get the love and care after the whump sometimes because he deserves it, I like seeing Tim react to his situation with bravery because he's someone who is brave, I like seeing Tim be helpless in situations then have someone help him. It all resonates within me and I like it.

As for situations where I haven't been in, I like seeing him in those situations because I love his character. I love the way he reacts to environments because all the comics and other media are literally about him reacting to situations. Fanfiction is the same thing, except they're different situations with different people who have different ideas.

There's so much difference in the world, and I love seeing it.

The different which I don't like or don't agree with, I click out. It's as simple as that. I click out and either rant about it to myself while pacing my bedroom or write a counter fic and use moments which I didn't like in that fic and recreate it to what I like. But I'm not rude to the author of that idea, because... people are different! Ideas are different! Difference exists!

So, I think on the topic where people think some whump in general is bad and sadistic and gruesome, I think they're different too. They have their reasons, we have ours. Difference exists. And I've grown to live with it. So should you.

Wally anon: Technically three cause his di-🤫 (Oh yeah, there were a lot. of people whose 1st movie was 5 based on the reactions I saw at the time, which I can get if they were young enough but in other cases, it's like...come on) Ugh, I know cause it led to it underperforming but at least it can still say it was ahead of the game by predicting so many things 🙌🙌🙌 Yuppp. I know Mindy being gay was something Jasmin wanted, but I don't know why her and. (But Richie ate with stealing her inhaler, but it was so obviously gonna be a thing with the way she was huffing and puffing in the beginning.) Exactly! Having him use a gun shows knowledge on how to use firearms. Anyone can pick up a knife but a gun need precision (and a serious amount of strength to use a shotgun ONE HANDED.) There's information you can discern from it but noooo... let's have it mean nothing to the rest of the movie. So true about H20, he looks like a lil guy in there because the eye holes are so big (like that dick and your hole when he's done w/ it) Don't get me wrong, I love ends but it feels like how Season of The Witch did to the OG trilogy. It feels almost out of place, but good on its own. COREYYYYY UGH the opening is so tragic but it's okay baby it wasn't your fault! I wish they would have tied it into Michael's own version of "evil," because it could have been a lot stronger. Still good and Laurie is still kicking ass as a grandma, but my main gripe with like all three H2018 movies is the fact that they remove the sibling connection Laurie had with Michael (it disregarded 2 and beyond). It kinda makes zero sense why he would return for the later two movies in the trilogy. I love sleazy men from school... ugh Johnny in TCM has those vibes but farmer/country boy centric and so does Frank from DBD. My favorite genre of men fr.

Well, now that I'm older, I do love Andrew's as much as Tom's. Tom's was just there when I was starting to define my awakening and all, so his is more prominent in my head, you know? He needs that gritty story finally, preferably with Daredevil making an inclusion now that he's been in NWH (which was the second best cameo of the movie imo) Uhhh Insomniac Peter is very much like the others, the best way I can put it is that he's more of a millennial and not as ruthless when he gets the symbiote. He's more tame tbh than the others with it. But man... he's gotta be the strongest of them all (and super caked up like i know harry was having the time of his life😮‍💨) Obviously, MCU Peter built his sex toys, never buys them and he's definitely used some on Cap and Bucky and had them use them on him among other things. Ohhh that AU would be so good, obviously he'd have a blue suit for the school colors, maybe some grey in their, or sweatpants are always being worn over it like Peter B. does in ITSV.

FOR REALLLL and the issue is it's such a wasted potential to give us insight on his Uncle Ben. Because he existed and died before the MCU introduces Peter, and this movie decided to focus on Tony's legacy instead. (Plus they make May and Happy date, which I wouldn't care much about if they actually gave Uncle Ben a spotlight instead of referencing him but not even showing one picture.) First place changes sooo much. Bucky/Peter are probably tied for number one because Seb and Tom are absolutely amazing. So true about skipping certain parts cause yeah... the MCU ruined his ending bad. (I should write for him more.. I was gonna have him dress as Santa with the natural beard to cheer up the team after they had a loss on Christmas/around the holiday, and it gets smutty somehow skdjsdkj. he's the captain, after all! he's gotta keep spirits high.)
