Okay so let’s talk about dramatic irony.
Colin’s big Flaw right now is his inability to be himself. This impacts his relationships with team members and also his football playing.
Ted’s speech from a few eps ago where he says “without shame” and the camera focuses on colin? that is where this flaw ties in with his growth as a football player.
We have seen colin make mildly homophobic remarks in the locker room “okay i’ll fuck zava”.
We have seen moments like this increasingly this season as the audience becomes aware of his sexual orientation.
This provides the audience with dramatic irony. The irony is that we know he is saying this to hide as a gay man but the characters in the scene do not.
We also know that what colin is doing is harmful to him. but he is unable to see that. all he is able to do is protect himself.
This episode is the first time (iirc) that we see him say something misogynistic instead of homophobic.
“i know what i’m doing this weekend”
to colin, this is not different. To most of the other players, this is not different.
To us, the audience, this is worse than what he was doing before. He is no longer weaponising homophobia (something he is a victim of) but misogyny (which he is not). you might argue that isnt worse but personally it rubbed me the wrong way and i think a lot of people would agree.
Importantly, some of the players on the team are also opposed to this misogyny.
At this point colin stops joking, and starts defending his real opinion (he shouldn’t have to delete his personal files just because they might be leaked).
This is an issue that some members of the team have beliefs about.
Jamie, Sam, and Isaac, stand up for women by making it clear that keeping nudes when there is a high risk of leaking is not okay.
But colin has skin in this game. Usually, he is never “real” in conversations like this. But this time things are different. He wants to keep the photos.
we see him defend this position by mentioning “memories.” this shows us that his desire is not lustful but sentimental in nature. i’ve seen others point out that this is a facet of his identity (that he is unable to outwardly express!). The photos mean something to him and he is angry at the idea that he is doing something wrong by keeping them.
I don’t think we have ever seen him defend an opinion genuinely before as the audience? In s1 he was pretty much trying to impress jamie. there was one comment about welsh pride but that came across as a joke. (Ted lasso writers make colin more welsh challenge)
And the first time he breaks his facade, the first time he shows his real face, he gets outed.
If he hadn’t cared about the photos he would have stopped arguing, stayed quiet and nodded along. made a joke maybe. something we’ve seen him do many times before. but he was honest about his opinions, so isaac was able to tell he hadn’t deleted anything when everyone else was.
SO: dramatic irony.
The audience knows that he wasn’t being serious with his first comment. “I know what I’m doing this weekend”
We know that that was a joke meant to act as a hyper-masc, homophobic, misogynistic shield in order to disguise his true self.
But the rest of the team do not know that. Issac does not know that. He has probably been making “jokes” like this, off camera, for years.
He leaps straight from a joke about masturbating to leaked nudes, to defending keeping photos that he knows there is a risk of leaking.
We, as the audience, know that he only wants to keep photos.
But Isaac thinks he might as well be defending the leak.
When Colin says “fuck off” to Isaac, he prompts him to take his phone. Isaac is acting the responsible team captain, here.
From what information he has, it just seems like colin is completely out of line. He’s defending misigyny, probably risking the safety and privacy of multiple women, being uncharacteristically rude and angry about it.
He probably has to deal with toxic behaviour from team members all the time. His own captaincy has been a source of growth for him, from the bully he used to be, to someone who tries to make sure everyone is behaving respectfully and as a team.
In any other situation I would want him to take the phone and delete the photos.
But he didn’t know that Colin also needed privacy. And colin was unable to express that to him as someone who is desperately hiding parts of himself.
So Isaac takes the phone.
I think this all explains Isaac’s reaction. Confusion, nods, leaves.
He is confused because he is learning that this interaction is absolutely not what he thought it was. He nods because he accepts that, bc it’s a totally different situation than he thought, he doesn’t need to delete the photos. then he leaves, because what else is he supposed to do.
And colin is left knowing that his slip-up (the first time we see him express a sincere and deeply held emotion in front of the team) caused the very thing he was so afraid of happening.
EDIT: oh also the irony of how isaac invades colins privacy while trying to protect other people’s because he doesn’t think of colin as someone who needs privacy from him. I allude to that but i meant to make is clearer. EDIT 2: corrected spelling of isaac

pairing-bf niki x gf reader
warnings-kisses, lotssssss, both of yall are soft asf, reader is up at 11 and niki gets home from dance practice at that time, crying, mention of snot, cuddles, mention of s*gag* sch*gag* school.*gag* not proofread bc im lAzy, lmk what i missed
why are you up at 11 with your computer on right in front of you? because of your fucking professor. yes, yesterday you had to miss class because you overslept. like its not your fault that school starts at 6 and they give you homework that takes you hours to do. anyway, according to your friends, you had an essay due tomorrow so you only had one day to work on it.
your pens and pencils were scattered all over the table. your notebook was open and your notes were written messily due to you being extremely tired. sticky notes on the edge of your laptop and notes.
dry tears stained your face and left a pink tint. your lips and mouth were sore from having them scrunched. your eyes were puffy, and your nose with snot coming out of it. you reached for your tissue, and placed it in the trash next to you, after cleaning your nose.
a minimum of 1,000 words for your essay, 100 done. stress was going in through the front door, sadness through the back and exhaustion through the windows.
you looked up to the ceiling to prevent crying, almost there. you can do it, you know you can. so why are you telling yourself you cant. it was dark out and you could barely see. 100 words, 10 tear stained tissues, and one coffee later, you took a two minute break. not enough. tears ran down your face while typing, your hands cramping and at the very moment you let out a sob-
-"Y/N!!! im home and i have some sna- baby, whats wrong?"- even though he was tired at this hour, he was always energized to see your face. he dropped the bags of snacks and drinks on the floor and went to hug you.
he saw your laptops screen, tissues, notes, pens and tear stained pages and started to peck your scalp.
-"its ok, my love. you'll be ok, i'm here. nothings going to happen"- he reassured you, rubbing your back and pressing kisses to your forehead.
he closed your laptop notebook and pencil case, wiped your tears, and put it all in a pile to the side. he put the snacks and drinks on the table.
after a bit of eating, laughing and reassuring, you told him your essay was due tomorrow. he set your stuff up and told you to take deep breaths to calm down before starting again.
you had one paragraph left, you're almost there. you can do it. you set your hand on the table to look through your notes. niki grabbed a pen and your hand. he started to doodle some weird figures. little giggles escaping his lips. he switched the color to red, holding your hand down so you wont look
you wondered what he was doing. he smirked mischievously, put the pen back and laid his head on the table to avoid your eyes.
you looked at your hand and saw two stick figures in black ink. they were holding hands and had big smiles on their face. in red ink, there was a heart surrounded by 5 little ones. flowers in the background as well.
you looked over at niki who was looking at you. he blinked in awe and you finished your essay. you closed you laptop and put everything in your backpack. you walked over to your room while niki was getting ready to sleep.
you looked at your hand again and nik just stood at the door frame. you quickly finished getting ready and laid down. niki plopped himself on top of you playfully, filling your room with laughter.
-"i'm so proud of you baby. i love you"- he said, kissing your head
-"i know, i love you too"- he leaned forward and kissed you softly.
he held you close to him and kissed you passionately. he fell asleep after a few seconds and you looked at your hand once more. you kissed his nose and fell asleep on his arms
an: wow, its longer than usual. woohoo. slayyy fr. sunghoon drabble coming soon yall

when i was in college i liked this one girl and also didn't know i was ace and these will both be relevant later anyway i was in this intro law class and this lit class at the same time, and it turns out this girl from my lit class was also in the intro law class, just in like a different timeslot. we start talking about this trial review we're supposed to do-- just go down to one of the major courthouses nearby, watch a couple hours of something, and report back. easy stuff. except she was like "yeah it's due tomorrow, i'm just lucky I don't have [my class] where it's due today." and im like. what. and of course yes I had miscounted and the class I had coming up in like half an hour is when I was supposed to be turning in this assignment. so she's like "I'm going to the courthouse to do my review right after class, do you want to come?" and im like "shit yeah let's do it" and so i skip class for the first and ONLY time in college, specifically to do a project for that same class. and so we get along great in the car, she plays video games, I play video games, it's great. we sit in on a murder trial because of course we do, and on the ride back we agree to meet up at her place later on to work on a paper for the lit class. i show up, laptop in hand, like 75% done but needing stuff looked over for quality. she answers the door not wearing like. a LOT of clothes. but like a t shirt and sleep shorts. i set up my stuff and ask how far along she is with the project. she hadn't started yet. i ask if she has an idea on what she wanted her topic to be. she doesn't have any. she mentions her roommate isn't home. i'm like cool so can you proofread this? anyway after like half an hour *i* get annoyed at *her* and make an excuse to leave, because she's not taking working on the paper seriously and at this point i can work faster on mine at home. and here's the twist in my story because my being into someone else and my being ace are actually not relevant, because the number one time someone has absolutely just been trying to hit i was so oblivious that i had the AUDACITY to be annoyed that it was cutting into my essay writing time
see you've told me this story before and while i understand where you're coming from i feel. so so badly for her.

genre: fluff pretty much just sappy stuff
pairing/s: osamu x gn!reader
wc: about 2.5k
a/n: oh my god idk where i came up with this but i think its cute so :p i hope you enjoy!!
You stared at your blank computer screen, hope of finishing your assignment before its due date at midnight slowly vanishing.
The clock on your desk read 11:27pm, the green lines wavering in your vision as your eyes slowly drooped, trying to drag you into the depths of slumber. You wanted to sleep, you really did, but you knew there was no way you could give up writing your essay, even now, knowing you weren’t going to submit it on time, because you would stress too much about it if you didn’t at least try to complete it before the due date.
Pushing yourself away from your desk, your chair squeaking against the floor ever so slightly in your dead silent dorm room, you tried to think of some excuse that your professor might believe. You doubted there was anything you could think of, but hey, your professor was better than what your roommates’ had mentioned theirs being, and you were grateful for that. Maybe you could tell him that you were exhausted from working extra hours at your job since you had had to cover your coworker’s shift and that’s why you couldn’t complete your essay on time? Or, maybe you could get away with a simple “I was lacking interest in the material, and couldn’t understand anything, and I didn’t ask for help because I knew that you are such a busy man trying to do so many things at once. Another hopeless near college drop-out wasn’t something I thought you needed on your hands.”
     ....Maybe not the latter.
You sighed, running a hand through your tangled hair, practically feeling it screaming at you to wash it. You barely had time in the mornings to take showers anymore, and when you took them at night, you never had the strength to wash your hair, always knowing that putting a hat on overtop or throwing on your hoodie would make it seem fine on the outside, and that was good enough for you. As long as you looked at least decent and somewhat presentable.
Your dorm room was fairly small, like every other one, but the lack of furniture made it seem larger than the rest. Nothing more than you and your roommate’s joint desk, the mini fridge in the corner, and the beds filled the space. You almost tripped over your backpack lying next to the bunk bed pushed up against the wall, falling to what would’ve been inches away from your roommate’s sleeping body.
In an attempt not to disturb them, you tiptoed through the room, stepping over the occasional heap of clothes or homework, until you reached the bathroom. You fumbled over the door knob before almost tumbling into the small space. Glancing in the mirror, you didn’t fail to notice your messy hair, the dark circles tracing beneath your eyes, or the way you looked like you were seconds away from passing out. The sound of running water rang in your ears as you turned on the sink faucet, cupping your hands together and bringing your face down to meet them, rubbing the cold water all over you in an attempt to keep you awake for just a few moments longer.
Your eyes returned back to the mirror as you sighed at your dripping wet face. There was no way possible you were going to finish your assignment on time. You knew it, your roommate knew it before they passed out, and you had noticed your professor’s wary glance this morning in class as a sign that he knew it too.
An idea sprang into your head, part of you dreading the optimism that seemed to seep through your brain slowly. You didn’t feel like being energetic right now.
---an hour later---
You weren’t exactly sure how, when, or why you decided it would be a good idea to take a shower (you did end up washing your hair, thank god), get your things together in your bag, and head to the off-campus coffee shop (since the one on-campus had already closed), but you found yourself with a warm cup of coffee in hand as you exited the shop, the cold midnight air enveloping you in an unwelcome embrace.
You shivered. The only thing your spontaneous brain had forgotten had to have been your jacket, the one thing your normal brain would’ve remembered if it weren’t already past midnight and if you weren’t majorly sleep-deprived.
You most certainly weren’t done with your essay yet, nor was there any possible way for you to finish it on time since it was now approximately thirteen minutes past the due time, but you let yourself breathe for now.
There weren’t many people out at this hour, and it made the usual busy city streets seemed like a ghost town. There were a few restaurants still open as you strolled along the sidewalk, their lights responsible for illuminating more than half the area in front of you. You passed by an onigiri shop your friend had recommended to you, but you just weren’t that hungry. Most nights, you’d kill for a midnight snack, but your single shot of espresso coffee was satisfying your needs for now.
You decided to head to the park after seeing a rabbit hop its way across the vacant street and into the bushes in that direction. The fresh air was nice and cool against your dry and croaky lungs, and your ears needed a different sound than that of you miserably attempting to touch type quickly, your fingers rapping against the keyboard with vigor.
A stream nearby flowed softly, the dripping of the water against the rocks complimenting the noise of the crickets chirping in sync just downstream. Your footsteps cut through the grass slowly, not bothering to follow the stone path. The park was a nice change of scenery. You couldn’t remember the last time you’d been here by yourself in peace, it was always you and your rambunctious friends who ran through every now and then just to see the dogs running through the sprinklers, or the occasional poor cat whose owner dragged them out into the daylight for exercise. This was peaceful, though, and you appreciated that.
A few more rabbits crossed your path, giving you that wide-eyed, side glance before darting off into the darkness, outside the reach of the lampposts emitting light. The sound of the stream soon faded out as you continued to walk through the park, sipping your coffee every so often. The warmth from your cup was soon dying out, and you figured you’d have to start walking back to your university sooner or later. Maybe you could crash at your friend’s house who lived just off campus, though you had forgotten your phone back at your dorm and had no alarm, no laptop to complete your work, and no contact with anyone else who might worry where you’d be. You had really no choice but to trek back to your dorm in the darkness, cutting your peaceful visit to the park short.
You let yourself have a few more minutes of stress free relaxing as you sat down on a bench just before the ground let out into a downhill slope overlooking the rest of the city below. The trees around you swayed in the breeze, and for a moment, you thought it was the wind talking, and not an actual human being who had somehow made his way beside you without gathering your attention.
“Didn’t think anyone else would be up at this hour,” the stranger mumbled. You glanced up, almost startled that, indeed, someone else was actually awake and strolling through the park.
The boy couldn’t have been much older than you were, maybe the same age. He had his hands stuffed in his jacket pockets, the wind tousled his dark hair ever so slightly, and the moonlight played along, illuminating his face just so you could actually see how gorgeous he was.
You cleared your throat, averting your eyes back to the ground as you shifted over, creating more space on the bench in case he wanted to sit down beside you. “I decided to actually take care of myself for once and give myself some time to breathe before facing the wrath of my professor tomorrow when he finds out I didn’t turn in my essay on time.” You let out a low, breathy chuckle, not exactly sure of what would happen next.
The guy sat down on the bench next to you, though he made sure to give you some personal space, which you were grateful for. He laughed along with you a bit, and you could tell just from his tone just how tired he really was.
You gave him a side glance, raising an eyebrow. “So, what the stressful thing that brought you here in the middle of the night?”
He smiled half-heartedly, eyes trained on the moon. “Work stuff. Jus’ been busy, I guess.” He shrugged.
You waited for him to continue on, but he stayed silent. You didn’t complain, though. Wasn’t your whole reason for coming out here in the dead of the night for some quiet? Plus, it wasn’t awkward either. You were comfortable sitting next to this stranger.
“What do you do for work?” You waited a little longer than necessary to ask, but he didn’t seem to mind the long pause.
“I own a restaurant a few blocks away. I love the job, it’s just tiring havin’ to deal with rude customers like my brother who won’t get the hint and get out sometimes. I got into an argument with him earlier today and he just wouldn’t shut it.” He rolled his eyes and took his hands out of his pockets, making eye contact with you as he went on about his day, and you couldn’t help but smile at his passion. “The guy thinks he can just walk in when I’m working with a new employee and just act like he runs the place! Quite stupid if you ask me. Such a jerk, he is. Thinkin’ about just banning him from the place, really.”
You snorted. “He really bugs you that much, huh?”
The guy smirked at your laugh, admiring it, though you would never had guess that was what flashed across his face in a million years. He nodded. “Yeah, ‘course I love ‘im ‘cause he’s my twin and my best friend, but he really knows how to annoy the hell outta me.” He shrugged. “Maybe I’ll just get a sign in the window that says “no shirt, no shoes, no service” and cross it out and write my brother’s name instead,” he reasoned, and the pondering look in his eyes made you wonder if he was actually considering the idea.
     You smiled. “You’re funny.”
“You say that like ya weren’t expectin’ it.”
A laugh made its way out your lips. “Well, when you’re approached by a stranger in the middle of the night you sort of expect the worst.”
The guy glanced off in the distance, away from you, furrowing his eyebrows. “Sorry, didn’t think of that comin’ off that way.” He shrugged a shoulder. “Guess it’s a good thing I’m funny then, and not some creep, eh?”
You nodded, the smile on your face not fading as he changed topics.
“So, what’s your essay on? Any way I can help ya finish it?”
You shook your head dismissively. “Oh, no. It was due thirty minutes ago.” You quickly explained the topic you were writing about in class before getting side tracked. “My professor had said he would allow it to be turned in the next morning, but I doubt he actually meant it.”
He smiled a wide grin, making butterflies flutter in your stomach. “You go to the university nearby, right?”
You nodded in confirmation, raising an eyebrow. “If I’ve got any luck, there’s a chance you go there too?”
He laughed a little, shaking his head. “Nah, I don’t, sorry. I’ve visited campus a few times because some of my friends go there, but I just usually focus on work.”
His gaze was tilted upwards towards the sky, and you couldn’t help but admire how the exhaustion still shone in his eyes, but somehow that same passion gleamed there too just mentioning what he did for a living. You wished you were that passionate about something that would actually support you financially in the future and make you happy.
When he glanced back at you, you were still taking his essence in, and he made a look of confusion. “What?”
You shook your head, chuckling. “Nothing. I just admire that you can dedicate yourself to something and make it seem so easy.” He looked at you, interested to hear what you had to say, even though you were sure you couldn’t be the first person to tell him this. “I haven’t even known you for more than ten minutes and I can already tell you’re passionate about what you do and if you’re stressed about it, it must mean you’re dedicated to seeing your work through, and that’s more than enough to admire and appreciate, especially when that can be so difficult sometimes.” You finished your short tangent, looking back up at him to see him staring intently at you, seemingly in awe of what you’d just said. You felt a blush creep onto your face as you quickly blurted out, “Sorry- I didn’t mean to be so straightforward and weird like that- I sound like some crazy secret admirer or something...”
The crickets chirped in the silence between the two of you, and it felt like it would never end.
“Y’know, I wouldn’t mind havin’ a secret admirer. I mean, wouldn’t be so secret, but...” You saw the smile creep up onto his face. “It’s nice being appreciated. Nobody really tells me that kind o’ stuff, so... thanks, I guess.”
The heat on your cheeks didn’t go away by any means, but you grew more comfortable with it as you mumbled, “Maybe I wouldn’t mind admiring you.”
Now, it was the boy’s turn to blush, and you smiled at how his cheeks grew redder with every passing second, and how his subtle grin spoke a thousand words he didn’t need to say.
“Miya Osamu.” The boy’s hand came into your view as he extended it for you to shake. “I own Onigiri Miya across from the grocery outlet.”
You smirked, grasping his hand in yours as you said, “L/N Y/N. I own an official license for being a horrible driver and an ID that proves I’m a sleep-deprived college student and that’s about it.”
He laughed, shaking your hand and standing up, letting go too soon for your liking.
Because for some weird reason, his hand felt right in yours.
Osamu said a quick goodbye, mentioning something about how he should get going and how you should get some sleep before he disappeared down the stone path back into the darkness.
You stood up not too long after he’d left, your coffee now entirely cold as you plopped the half full cup into the trash can on your walk back to your dorm, not needing the pathetic warmth anymore. Your heart was beating fast and the feeling of Osamu’s hand resting in yours lingered on your palm, and that kept you warm enough.
Maybe you’d be visiting that onigiri place your friend recommended to you a little sooner than you’d originally planned, and maybe more often than you would’ve expected.

i know that your requests are closed BUT IF U HAVE TIME if you can pls write short drabble of steve helping and comforting reader as she studies for an exam? Im so stressed rn my finals is next month and im dying :(((((((((
because i truly know this pain, i decided to write something for ya real quick on my break ;) best of luck hun, me n steve are rooting for you!! you got this. but also remember to take it easy!
-> -> -> It was nearly three in the morning and you still had not gotten to bed yet; in fact, you were running on roughly five hours of sleep for the past two days, and you had no idea how you were still trucking on. Perhaps it was the coffee, but that did not make you feel much better-- the last thing you needed was a raging caffeine addiction to come out of all this studying.
You were in your college campus' library, thankfully having found a study room all to yourself; you had tried studying at home before but your bed being nearby was far too tempting. You did not have time for that temptation-- or the man that was usually in it by this hour.
You felt guilty that you couldn't spend time with your boyfriend during finals season, even though he completely understood. However, you would soon realize you didn't even have to feel that guilt. You heard the door to the room open and you looked up, about to tell whoever it was to scram, but instead there stood the tall blond with a warm smile on his face and cup of hot chocolate from your favorite cafe in one hand. "Hey there, my little nerd." He greeted playfully as he came over to kiss the top of your head, and you couldn't feel more happy, suddenly energized by his mere presence-- though still naturally concerned. "Steve, what are you doing here? You worked late tonight, didn't you? You should be sleeping!"
He chuckled softly and sat down in the chair next to you, sliding you the cup. "Meeting ended early, actually. I was considering giving you a call and going to bed, but I decided I'd much rather see you in person. And... maybe convince you to come back home with me?" He reached over to hold your hand, your aching, tired-from-writing-notes hand. "You've been here for hours, cupcake. Your test isn't until the day after tomorrow, I think some sleep is gonna benefit you more than studying nonstop until then."
"Yeah, but my essay's due tomorrow. I just--" you sighed, running your free hand through your hair. "I want to get this all over with. So I can get back to my life, so classes can finally be over. So I can get back to you." He smiled softly and rubbed your knuckles lightly as he murmured playfully, "Yes, and when you do get back to me, I'd like for you to not be a frazzled, cranky, sleep deprived zombie. Is that too much to ask?" You were about to scoff but then realized he had a point-- you were really not too enjoyable when you did not have enough sleep in you; thankfully Steve was so tolerable and loving as a person he seemed to be an exception. "Alright. I'll take a nap," you agreed reluctantly, "but after I take notes on ONE more chapter. Okay?" He shook his head to himself fondly but nodded, bringing your hand to his lips and kissing each finger. "Mmmkay, but I'm staying here the entire time so I can drag your ass home when you're finished."
"But Steve, it's so late alre-"
"Shh. Get to writing, baby. But first, send me what you have for your essay. I'll proofread it for you."
You blinked but smiled, truly touched as you nodded, turning to your laptop and pulling it up. "Thanks, babe. This will really help..."
He leaned over and turned your face towards his, kissing you softly. "Mm. That's all I wanna do. You're going to do great, I promise."

ugh i am so so sorry bb :(((( the way schools are dumping such insane workloads even in this crazy hell corona time is so so sick. ur mental health should always come before school but also i know that isn't always feasible especially if not graduating ontime means more money spent on another semester. im new to the college gig so i don't know probably any hot tips you wouldn't but do try to email people about an extension for mental health reasons - that's completely legitimate and it's so hard to get shit done when you're stuck in brainfog. and please please feel free to DM me if there's anything I can help on/proofread/whatever !!! my workloads pretty light this week so I'd be happy to help 💗💗💗💗💗i really hope that soon u are not so miserable love, that sounds sooo fucking difficult and im so sorry you're dealing with that :(( all my love to you ✨
