read horrorstör in 4 hours it wasn’t particularly scary but it was still interesting and the panopticon appearance made me think of the magnus archives haha
i did like the images featured and the way it was designed (i read it as an ebook and i suspect a physical copy would be cooler but it was still neat), and i could feel the way it was set up like a liminal space and the horror it was meant to invoke but it personally didn’t connect with me to spook me or make me feel horror (except about capitalism. but. you know. what’s new). i feel like it has potential to be redone as a good horror movie though tbh, if done right you could really nail the feeling of liminality and horror quite well. but overall not a bad read, just no particular strong feelings for it

I lowkey want one of those "live laugh love" type house signs that says "come freely, go safely, and leave something of the happiness you bring" for the entryway of my house someday. I think it'd be hilarious, but it's also lowkey a nice greeting in its own way, if perhaps mildly ominous... What a nice way to set a welcoming vibe! ;)

Now that the voyage is sadly over I’m curious where to go from where with Verne’s works. I assume the next book to read is Around the World in Eighty Days but does anyone have any translations they recommend (I would still love to do it as a substack but I know it’s not possible at the moment)? Is the Mysterious Island worth the read? Any other recommendations? I loved 20,000 Leauges way more than I ever thought I would and definitely want to read more n the future!

ugggggggh today I had a surprise extra dog walk, and I'm already on a dog-sit so I had to leave sweet miss Bailey alone at home three times today, and she gets separation anxiety so that was hard 😭 also while walking Finn and Leo in the park I not only had to deal with every single one of the dozens of people I passed on the walk not moving out of the fucking way, like I swear people are allergic to sharing the path in that park and the path is like eight feet wide, so I always have to drag the dogs over to the grass next to the path which isn't as smooth and it's usually muddy and/or covered in fallen tree branches etc so it's harder to navigate without tripping especially with those insane dogs pulling me all over the place, ANYWAY not only did I have to deal with that but I also had maybe the worst asthma attack I've ever had and I didn't have my inhaler so my lungs have been sore all day and I can't fucking breathe normally 😭😭😭
ALSO I went to swap out the tip on the syringe for my t-shot from the drawing needle to the injecting needle and when I screwed it in I heard a cracking sound...didn't really think anything of it because when I aspirated the needle it seemed to be working fine, but once I jabbed myself and pushed the plunger down all the t oil just squirted out of the side of the base of the needle tip and all over my leg lmaooooooo so now I have to call my endo and be like "hey I spilled my boy juice can I have more" and idk what they're going to say because I just had to refill it early because I'd been giving myself a double dose because they didn't fucking tell me how much to inject into myself so I had to guess 😅😅😅😅😭😭😭😭😭😭
I feel like absolute shit I feel so sick and exhausted and I haven't been able to sleep lately because I'm in so much pain and can't ever find a comfortable position and my restless leg syndrome has been so insanely bad idkkkkkk it's just so stupid I honestly can't wait for my surgery next week because I'll be taking two weeks off to recover lmao............if my surgery even happens lol who fucking knows!!!! and like yeah I'll feel way better dysphoria-wise but I'll also be post-surgery lol so physically I'm probably going to feel even worse than I do now!!!!!!!!! why am I aliiiiivvvveeeeeeeeeeeee

Okay but if the thing with finding a mate for Tusk was actually something Halsin was seriously doing just for fun as implied in the new epilogue, I cannot stop thinking about Halsin playing matchmaker as something to do in his spare time.

Once again: the so-called "General Fandom History," in terms of which things get held up as Iconic™ or Well-Done™ or Worth Analyzing™ has disproportionately focused on (cis, abled) white men. Some of us would like to not have everything be focused on this one demographic and would, in fact, love to not constantly hear--implicitly or explicitly--how stories about people like us are inherently less interesting or less worthy of telling.

Some studies show that people are working less when they're working from home. These studies usually take this form: We interviewed X number of people, and found that their average workday at the office lasted 8 hours, but now that they're working from home, they only work for about 5 hours. They spend less time working; ergo, they are working less.
This is missing a crucial bit of the story, however. Other studies, that take their questions one step further, find an additional tidbit of information: they analyze these employees' productivity and find that despite the fact that they are working less every day, they are getting the same amount of work done. These are salaried employees we're talking about. Who the hell cares how long they took to do something, so long as they get it done?
Also forgive me for not taking business practice advice from Martha Stewart.
