Weaving Webs

Summary: October 1st means it’s time to break out the decorations and get in the Halloween spirit.

Features: Fluff, and a lot of it; Avengers living on the compound, but in their own spaces and it’s adorable; Background Wanda Maximoff/Steve Rogers; Background Clint Barton/Laura Barton/Natasha Romanoff

Pairing: Sam Wilson/Bucky Barnes/Reader

Notes: For @thefanficfaerie‘s OTP challenge. I was originally going to go Bucky/Reader but couldn’t resist turning this into Sam/Bucky/Reader. My goal is to follow this trio all the way through December.

Word Count: 1353

You grinned as you loaded the last of the bins onto the cart you got at Costco ages ago for when you needed to move a lot of things...which with the way you went all out at times at the grocery store was often enough that it had been more than worth it. Sam and Bucky wouldn’t know what hit them. You loved the holidays, more than anyone you knew. There was something magical about the decorations and the atmosphere that the last three months of the year brought.

The three of you shared a house on the grounds of the Avengers compound. When the team started settling down and more agents with families started being brought on, it made sense to create a place for them where their families would be protected. In a sense, a new town had sprung up, with the Avengers having their own neighborhood. You had enough room to have spacious yards and soon enough, trick or treaters would be knocking on your door, the children of agents who were excited to show off their costumes.

Bucky and Sam had both been away on a mission. You were still out with an injury. It was October 1st and no one could tell you no, you cannot put the Halloween decorations up yet. You had started putting out small, autumn themed decorations as soon as the seasons changed. Sam and Bucky had barely noticed the appearance of pumpkin spice, apple, and cinnamon scented candles that replaced your more summer scented ones. Nor did they seem to notice the sudden appearance of garland made of faux autumn leaves that now adorned the railing of the balcony, white fairy lights strewn throughout.

You set about unpacking the boxes and organizing the decorations more than they already were. The witch with the cauldron that said a rhyme about the brew she was making was set to the side for the scene you’d create by the rarely used fireplace, a throwback to your childhood. You were so lost in what you were doing, you never heard the front door open or the two of them walk in.

“Why does it look like Halloween came to town and trashed our place?” Sam asked. You jumped, almost dropping the ceramic ghost you were holding.

“You scared me,” you said before continuing, “I’m starting to decorate for Halloween.”

“Doll, Halloween isn’t until the 31st. Do we really need to decorate now?” Bucky asked. You glared at him.

“Yes. The holiday season has officially started. Since you two are home…,” you said trailing off.

“You want us to help, don’t you?” Sam asked.

“Please? I have so much I want to do and so little time. Besides, Wanda and Steve have started decorating their house. I saw Steve cleaning the gutters out this morning to hang up those purple and orange lights they bought last year,” you said. There was something refreshing about having a slice of normalcy in the midst of a life that was far from normal. The three of you were still relatively new to the dating thing, having opted to live together as friends for so long before one day, the feelings came out.

Steve had settled in with Wanda, something that had surprised you at first. With the security provided by living on the compound, Clint had brought Laura and their kids out. If Natasha lived with them, well, no one was batting an eye at that. Thor had a house in the neighborhood, one he shared with Bruce. Tony and Pepper maintained one too, even if Tony was more hands off from the team these days. The Avengers were still a family.

“What do you need us to do, doll?” Bucky asked. You smiled, and saw the look Sam gave Bucky.

“We’re going to regret this, aren’t we?” Sam asked.

“You can start by grabbing the batteries I bought off the kitchen counter, please. Bucky you can start testing the lights for the bushes,” you said. Both men shared a look before going to do as you asked. Bucky set about continuing to untangle the lights for you, while Sam handed you the batteries.

The witch was the first thing you wanted to power up. Your mother had sent it to you a few weeks prior at your request. As soon as the batteries were in, you pressed the button, bringing her to life.

“Happy Halloween. Let’s see, there’s eye of newt, liver of muskrat, venom of snake, garlic powder, delicious yes, it’s my very own chowder. Happy Halloween,” the decoration said, complete with a witch’s cackle. You laughed at the look on Sam and Bucky’s faces.

“That’s creepy,” Bucky said.

“That’s vintage. 1995. Been in the family almost as long as I have,” you said with a smile.

“Where are we putting it?” Sam asked.

“By the fireplace. I have a whole scene to set up there,” you explained. The three of you set about setting up the decorations. This year, you had gone out and purchased wood to make your headstones. The foam ones didn’t hold up well. When your boys saw what you had stashed in the garage, they shared a look. You had drawn out where the cuts needed to go, but hadn’t touched the wood.

“Doll, you weren’t planning on cutting that yourself were you?” Bucky asked. You shook your head. There were very few things you agreed to being off limits. Using any kind of saw was one of them after the first and last time they had you handle cutting something. You may have been on it on the field, but when it came to the day to day, there were some things it was safer not to let you do.

“Of course not. If one of you could? I have the designs sketched out too on the paper I taped up. Just call me out when it’s done so I can start painting,” you said.

You headed back in the house, putting the window decals up before Sam came in and helped you bring the lights outside. You could hear Bucky at work on the saw as you and Sam pulled the lights over the bushes and placed ‘cobwebs’ over it. Sam grabbed the ladder to put the lights up on the front of the house, along with your ghostly decorations that hung down.

You almost forgot that Bucky was tasked with cutting the headstones until you realized it was far too quiet. You walked toward the garage to see him hard at work painting. He had already done the work of putting the poles into the decorations.

“You like it?” he asked you as he heard you approach.

“It’s perfect,” you said, wrapping your arms around him from behind and letting your head rest against his shoulder. You jumped slightly when Sam joined in, the three of you content to enjoy the moment.

“I was thinking we could have a skeleton hand reaching up from one of them,” Bucky said.

“Yeah? What other ideas do you have?” you asked him. He explained his plan, before setting to work with Sam. You took the opportunity to head back inside and continue your indoor decorating. There were plenty of things that still had to be done.

The sun had set before the three of you retired for the evening, opting to order out instead of cook. One of Tony’s Iron Legion would pick up the food, something the locals outside the compound had long since grown used to. The lawn now had a dozen headstones, complete with scenes of skeleton’s attempting to escape and a scarecrow caretaker that Sam made.

“Well?” you asked as your boys looked around the house. You were practically bouncing on your feet, wanting to know what they thought.

“It’s perfect, doll,” Bucky said, placing a kiss on your forehead. Sam nodded in agreement.

“It really is,” Sam said. The three of you settled in for dinner with the arrival of your food a short time later. You couldn’t wait for what the rest of the month would bring.

Semi-Kuro-related ask thing!

Regarding Kuroshitsuji…

- How did you find/get into Kuro?

Saw a picture of a hot guy on the interbutts (turns out it was Sebs) and dug into info on the show. Instantly hooked and started watching, bought manga, bought other crap, etc.

- What’s your fav/least fave arc or chapter? Why?

Fav: Red Butler. Because it introduced me to my spirit animal.

Least: Music Hall arc. Because while I can appreciate that it was just silly fun on top of an actual story arc I couldn’t help feel that Yana kinda jumped the shark a little. I still kinda enjoyed it though since it had it’s moments.

- Favorite/least favorite characters?

Fav: Grell Sutcliff.

Least: Charles Grey.

- Favorite piece of art created by Yana Toboso?

Mmn, I don’t have a specific favorite but I do like when she does holiday themed work like for Halloween or Christmas for example, but above that I really enjoy seeing her concept work or sketchy doodles of characters, especially Grell and Sebs.

- How do you think Kuro will end?

With the fandom imploding in on itself. Seriously I’m not entirely sure but if the red head dies at the end I’m going to be quite irate.

- Manga/anime/musical/etc. Which is your favorite?

Manga > Musicals > Radio dramas > Movies > Drama CDs > Anime.

- What would you love to see Kuro do a crossover with?

Hellsing. I want to see an all out slug match between Alucard and Sebastian, no holds barred and preferably shirtless in a vat of strawberry jello. ...What were we talking about again?

- General thoughts/feelings about Kuroshitsuji.

Regarding the fandom…

- How long have you been apart of the fandom?

Since season one-ish.

- Has it been a worthwhile or regrettable experience? Why?

Definitely worthwhile. I love to entertain concepts or future ideas with the work with a special someone and other like minded people in the fandom.

- Best experience so far?

Coming up with art, concepts and AUs. Plus I got to see BotA in sub in theaters which was embarrassing at first due to reasons but also so damned worth it.

- Things you wish there was more of in the fandom?

People with more then just two brain cells.

- General thoughts/feelings about the fandom.

There’s a few good eggs and smart cookies among them though so it’s not all bad.

‘Cause lot of ya’ll make stuff…

- What about Kuro inspires you the most?

The story and the way Yana tells it. It’s not entirely traditional when one thinks of demons and contracts and spooky stuff like that and I find it interesting.

- Who are your OTPs/nOTPs? Other noteable pairings?

Sebagrell. Yeah it makes no sense but I don’t care, I enjoy the concept of it.

- What’s your favorite AU?

Ones me and the bae come up with.

- Do you have an AU? Tell us about it!

There are far, far too many to even begin describing but most of them involve a certain demon and a certain drama queen and sandwiched between them is a lot of bumping of uglies.

- Which character do you relate to most? Why?

Probably Sascha. Background character, not much is known about him yet, has a morbid fascination with history, human nature in general and the way things are playing out around him as an observer. Yeah that sounds familiar.

- What are you working on now?

SL building, sketches, possibly redoing my store so I can actually sell some crap.

- If you’re a digital artist, which programs do you use?

.I’m poor so I use a free copy of Gimp that’s very much out dated.

- What’s the story behind your url?

I have an odd and arguably unhealthy fascination with skeletons and Grell.

i’m bad at coming up with questions so i’m not going to do the 10 questions. but i am going to answer the questions that were listed. also this is an open tag, so anyone who wants to do it can do it.

1) We always talk about favorites. What’s your least favorite book?

hmmm. one book i’ve always hated is the scarlett letter. we read it in school and it was awful.

2) Do you have a favorite place to write? What’s it like there?

i didn’t really have a favorite place to write until recently. a few months ago i finally got a desk and i’ve been in love with it ever since.

very, very cluttered. there’s all kinds of stuff piled on it. on one side i’ve got soda cans, plastic bottles, my phone; the other side is junk food, my glasses case, a couple of necklaces. i have an old sugar plum fairie barbie on the top shelf that i tried to sell, that nobody wanted even though i had it for like $5 (i might post a picture of it later bc it’s super pretty).

3) Do you have any artistic endeavors other than writing? If not, what else would you most like to learn to do?

back before the writing bug really bit me, i used to draw all the time. now i barely ever draw unless i get really inspired.

hmmm, i don’t know. maybe sign up for duolingo and learn other languages?? other than that i don’t know.

4) What’s your favorite holiday? Why? Have you ever written a story involving that holiday?

halloween is my favorite, followed closely by christmas just bc i love the tacky decorations and the music and the movies and pretty much everything about it.

looool i have tried to write fics involving these holidays, but they never come out how i want them to and i’ve kind of given up on it.

5) How do you fight writer’s block?

silly answer: drink so much caffeine i ascend to the astral plane to get advice from the writing gods.

actual answer: there’s not really an easy way to answer this. sometimes i see writing posts that are like, “you have to write every day!!” and i’m thinking y’know that’s not always possible. whether i’m out of inspiration/ideas, or i’m in a depression spiral, or i’m tired from work, or maybe i’m just not feeling that particular project. it’s not a sin to need a break from your wips, bc even though it’s happy work it’s still work. and there’s no shame in needing to take a breather to get yourself sorted out.

on days when i’m ready to write, i do different things to get myself pumped up for my wips. i’ll make playlists, make aesthetic boards, sometimes i torture my mutuals with rambles about my ocs or tag them with little excerpts from the project. i really like making an aesthetic tag so i can go and look at all the pretty stuff that makes me think of the wip, so i can remind myself why i want to write it in the first place.

6) At what point in a WIP do you decide to send it to your first beta readers/reviewers?

probably not until i’m at least done with a second draft. the first draft needs to have all those plot holes filled, all those loose threads woven back together, characters need developing. showing a beta reader my first draft would be like taking a person to a room filled with beginning sketches of people where they’re still just shapes instead of having any defining features.

7) What’s your greatest inspiration?

i don’t think i have one lol.

8) A lot of writers have certain things they like to describe - food, clothes, fights, party scenes. What’s your favorite thing to describe?

emotional scenes where characters talk about their problems and they hug and maybe even cry. i’m a terrible person.

9) What’s your approximate ratio of reading to writing? How do you find time for both? Do you do both on the same day, or split it up?

you’re going to judge me for this, but i haven’t been reading actual books lol. the last few months i’ve just been reading fanfic oneshots with like the occasional multichapter fic thrown in. my attention span has been terrible.

10) What books would you recommend to someone to get them into reading?

i think it depends on the person. what i might find compelling, someone else might find super boring.

1. What is your favorite book in a genre that you don’t tend to write? If you do fantasy/sci-fi, what’s your favorite romance? If you write literary, what’s your favorite paranormal YA?

i don��t really like writing stuff that doesn’t have some kind of paranormal element. so i guess i’d say my writing enemy that i like reading is real world drama.

my favorite books that are like idk period pieces i guess?? are Anne of Green Gables and Pride and Prejudice.

as for stuff that’s based in more recent times, there’s a ya series i really like called tiny pretty things that’s about a group of ballerinas competing against each other for spots for prima ballerina?? and there’s a lot of drama and backstabbing. it’s kind of a dark series.

2. What book would you love to see turned into a movie or tv show? Any particular reasons why?

i can’t think of anything right now. maybe green angel by alice hoffman?

3. Have you ever written a character with a certain real-life person in mind. Was it someone you know in real life or someone famous?

some of my ocs were originally based off acquaintances, but as i kept writing them the characters changed so much that they became pretty much unrecognizable.

4. If your latest WIP had a color scheme, what would it be?

paper heart would be red, orange, pink, and purple. the colors of a sunset with the threat of darkness falling over everything.

5. What do you eat or drink while writing (if anything)?

s’mores poptarts if i’m too lazy to get up and fix myself something. chips. different sodas: cherry coke, sunkist, grape fanta.

6. What do you do to restore your inspiration when you’re not writing?

watch movies/tv shows. listen to podcasts or music. look at cool pictures.

7. Coffee, Tea, Booze, or ALL THREE?

coffee and booze. i’m not a big fan of tea.

8. Who is your favorite visual artist?

uhhhh, does studio ghibli count? their artwork is so appealing to look at.

9. Do you have any other creative pursuits outside of writing? What are they?

maybe learning other languages??

10. What is your favorite trope, the one you will always fall for and never get enough of?

1. Describe your WIP as a cross between two movies.

i’m trying to think of what paper heart would be, but i’m drawing a blank. this needs to be its own game where someone else guesses what movies your wip is the lovechild of.

2. What’s your favorite part of writing communities?

cheering on and also being cheered on during the writing process. getting to read all these wonderful stories written by wonderful people. knowing other people are suffering just as much as i am lol.

3. If you could collaborate with any writer (whether friend or idol), who would it be and what would you work on together?

i am terrible at collaborating with other people lol.

4. Do you prefer reading/writing standalones or series?

i love reading series, but i’m not good at writing them lol. yet somehow i always end up writing series.

5. Who is your ultimate OC otp(+)?

canon: for the next three days verse it’s between leana/yvonne and jason/bella for otp status. my ot5 is carter/matteo/violet/tiffany/nina.

for defect i’d say my otp is joe/alec. also ethan/noah later on down the line.

ot3: ned/alec/sage

ot4: ned/alec/joe/ray.

au: joe/ned/carter

for the graveyard of the forgotten it’s definitely orrinaz/eliya/amnayel.

6. If your OC(s) joined tumblr, what type of blog would they run?

i wish i could answer this question with the dedication it deserves. i feel like their blogs would have a lot of memes and shitposts with some aesthetic stuff thrown in.

7. If you could write an adaptation of any story, which would it be?

while i have zero desire to write an adaptation for a story, i’ve always liked the idea of a movie version of Green Angel by Alice Hoffman. mostly bc it’s surreal, a little weird, post apocalyptic, and it would just look really cool.

8. What common writing tips never work for you? And/or what uncommon advice do you swear by?

anything that’s like, “if you don’t write everyday, you’re not a real writer!!” like chill dude. just bc i’m not cranking out 1,000 words a day like some lean, mean, writing machine doesn’t mean i’m not dedicated to what i’m doing.

9. Do you research before, during, or after writing sessions?

it depends. sometimes i get to a point in a fic where i’m like, “uh oh” and i go into a research spiral trying to find this one specific thing. thinking ah yes, this is the specific thing i need at this very moment that i probably could do without.

10. Have you had a writing epiphany that totally revamped your WIP?

if only. there were a few game changers in the next three days series that changed things for the better:

- the way carter and matteo first met lmao.

- violet’s existence.

- sage rescuing and then leaving violet and carter.

- carter and nina’s bromance.

- alec and carter, and also joe and matteo being siblings.

- tiffany seeing ghosts.

Welcome!

My first tumblr, and my first post. Guess I should introduce myself.

;) I’ve been in love with Dragon Ball Z since I was 8 or so. As a kid, I was totally into Son Gohan. In middle school, Buu saga came to America and I became completely supernumber1fan for Gohan and Videl. Ultimate OTP, guys. GohanxVidel 4ever was written on my school supplies. I was Videl for halloween in 8th grade and dyed my hair black. (It was my own AU Videl too, but I’ll get into it in another post).

I actually knew about Videl before she was on toonami because fanfiction was my CRACK as a kid. Gotta be over 9000% committed to these kinds of things, you know.

Might have also been how I was introduced to sex.

Anyways, I’ve never forgotten DBZ, but I did have to continue with real life so it fell to the back of my mind. My youngest sister ended up getting the same nerd traits as me, so when she got into DBZ, it brought it back to the forefront. She was DB Bulma with the pink dress for this past Halloween (so, so proud!), and I have had a lot of free time lately, so I just let my nerdiness go WILD.

I got into watching Dragon Ball Super just a few months ago (I took a break after a few episodes because it was so much like a bad fan fiction plot that I wanted to beat my head against my laptop screen), and then decided I needed to watch all of Dragon Ball (I didn’t illegally download episodes as a kid so I only saw a handful if I caught them on toonami- and my focus was Gohan, not Goku) and read allllll of the manga (my mom didn’t like to buy them for me because I “go through them too fast.” But it’s true, I inhale those books).

While recently looking through Gohan and Videl fanart, I fell down the rabbit hole of “related posts” and came across @stupidoomdoodles‘ tumblr page full of vegebul amazingness. I’ve never been so excited for another DBZ pairing until now. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Vegeta because he’s an arrogant asshole and I feel bad for him because he ALWAYS loses to Goku, and doom’s works and headcanons are legit the BEST.

TL;DR: My fangirling led me to create a tumblr page so I can follow all these magnificent artists on this site, and reblog all my favorites in one place where everyone I know can’t see them and make fun of me. I also got back into sketching after a decade of almost no drawing, so if I do anything DBZ related they might show up here. Headcanons as well.
