Helluva Rewrite (and some of my personal doodles)

Alrighty, so I finally found the motivation to draw up the entire I.M.P crew and finalize their designs! Introducing my version of the new and improved Immediate Murder Professionals!

I'm so freaking lazy so I didn't add shading or anything extra like that because ughhh. I also decided on some defining traits for imps depending on their ring, but only for the gang and the rings we've seen in the show so far

Wrath imps are larger, stronger, and spikier than other imps. Lust imps have varied bodies, but all have heart shaped barbs on their tails and leathery wings on their lower back. Greed imps are more slender than other imps and often wear jewelry. Gluttony imps are small and fast, high metabolisms so they can gorge. Sloth imps are easy to identify because they usually are just lying there doing fuck all and lack barbs on their tails.

Also, the scarring for imps is the same. White markings indicate scars. In the show I feel like it’s hard to tell what’s a scar (like Blitzo’s facial marks) and what’s a birth mark (like Moxxie’s freckles) so for my own sake, white marks are scars, black marks are birth marks or tattoos, end of story. Millie got her scars from fighting in the wrath ring, Blitzo got his scars from the explosion, and Moxxie’s freckle-like scars are cigarette burns. Should also note that imps are immune to hellfire, but not normal fire because... uhhh idk honestly it just seems more logical.

I kinda wanna show off my own imp designs for my little demon thing because helluva boss posts get traction and I just wanted someone to see them, so if you only came here for helluva content, feel free to stop reading lol 

Okay, so I wanted the imps to all look like the same species but at the same time not at all. Essentially the imps in my series are based more on folklore surrounding them. In christian folklore imps are straight up evil, but I want all of my imps to just be little guys. Look at em, they’re just little guys. Imps were sometimes thought of as the familiars of witches, taking forms of different animals, so I wanted some of the imps to look animalistic, but it’s their behavior that reflects it more (which is hard to show in a still doodle). Also the imps are just color coded here so I know which is which, imps aren’t actually these specific colors in my world. 

Greed imps tend to bind themselves to objects that they particularly adore – in some tellings imps were bound to objects like crystals and could be summoned by their masters. So Greed imps often have a specific item bound to them that they guard with their lives.

Sloth imps are the most harmless when they’re tired, it’s when they’re awake that they become the full on imps of folklore. They’re often paid in sugar cubes and used as servants in the sloth ring. 

Gluttony imps are alluding to the fae origin of imps in Germanic folklore, having wings and being generally bug like and little shits. I wanted them to look like pixies almost.

Envy imps are the more attention seeking type who play tricks on humans to garner a reaction. Tricks such as attempting to drown people and such – harmless fun, you know? They’re actually a little based on Kappa I'll admit. 

Lust imps have the habit of snatching babies, as in a lot of demons associated with lust (such as Lilith) tend to be obsessed with babies/pregnancy. The lust imps are nearly infertile, so they love taking babies to raise, then discard them once they’re annoyed.

Pride imps are based on the Lincoln imp (in short an Imp threw a rock at an angel and got turned into stone). They’re fluffy and covered in shiny fur since they live in the frozen layer of hell. Their horns are the largest of all imps, and their biggest source of pride – like if they break their horns, they’d rather die than live with the shame because their horns don’t grow back. 

Wrath imps are based on the old art of imps you can find – bald little creatures with horns and tails. They’re the more feral animalistic imps, often acting on pure instinct and lacking much social structure. They do tend to exercise in their own way, as strength is their greatest feature. 

Anywho if you read all that omg thank you for feeding my ego teehee. But for real, as much as I hate digital, I did enjoy drawing out the imp gang, I might (keyword MIGHT) draw out some rewritten scenes in comic format the most daunting part is actually doing it lmao.

I probably won't shove my own stuff into posts too often, I mostly did it because I wanted to compare my ideas for Imps to Viv's because I think mine are better sorry not sorry lmao. I like to actually research what I'm doing and incorporate it into my art and creations because i think of it like little easter eggs for people who like the things I like. Viv's version of Hell is my least favorite mostly because everything she does feels like bible fanfiction written by a middle schooler who thinks shouting penis in class is the peak of comedy.

How do you happen to do your shading id you don't mind sharing? Its so subtle and soft that you can't tell its there but it really helps highlight the characters

Phew, finally got some time on my hand to answer this one! It's a fairly simple/fast process so I figured I'd make a tuto once I'd get started on the shading for the next part, and here we are!

Alright so, we've got the panel (lazy screenshots cuz I'll never finish this if I have to export everytime ahah)

The advantage of digital art is that I don't have to think about color harmonies right from the start, I can always add filters and fiddle with the hues at any stage, so I just apply base colors at first and draw the background (it will help me build up a palette for the shadows later).

Okay, now the fun really begins. First I need to know which direction my shadows are likely to go and what atmosphere I want for the panel (which element I want to highlight? palette idea? etc). A sketch is enough to establish your intentions. Sometimes I'll mess up the lighting but it's okay to cheat if it looks coherent enough xD

Now to create palette and apply the said shadows. I have a hand made one for TMS, but I had to make a special one for Ebott since there's a lot bg and kinda heavier atmosphere (I'll prbly have to make one for each part frow now on too hm). It's mostly made up of blues and greens (no black or greys here, but it can be fun to use in other styles! Purple too, so have fun!)

There, cast shadows (clothes, faces, folds, etc.) are roughly in place and looking sharp! Maybe a little bit too sharp actually... Let's smooth all that up

I use an airbrush eraser to soften a few shadows. Not necessarily all of them or the whole shape, you have to find the right balance of soft/sharp.

Now to spice things up a bit-

On a layer linked to the shadow layer, I add a lighter color that matches my light source or the environnement. Here it's a light blue, but in part VII I used a lot of orange (sun)! It makes the shadow much richer and the whole palette more vibrant!

And last but not least: Global shadow and filters (? never had to name or translate it bwahaha)

It's a lot of fiddling to achieve a result where the character looks more or less rooted in the background (=blue layers and filters to harmonize colors) and where I draw the last shadows. They're often the biggest ones (=on Axe's body+ leaf/tree shadows etc.).

You can use the techniques I've described above, or just go for it, it's completely freewheeling from here, ahem. Just make sure to step back regularly to see where you're at and stop.

(You can also add lights layers and spots if it's too dark but in this example, I use the base color as a light layer + their skulls are such a bright white already xD )

Exhibit A:

This picture was the first time I ever drew Sunny. I was figuring out how rich people/modern princesses look in cartoons basically. Because she's a little kid and she's not gonna know how actual rich people dress. I was also looking at different Sunny fanarts and ultimately fell in love with the idea of her being black/mixed.

Exhibit B:

This is a colored version of the design i decided on. She does not have any "dragon" features here because I was lazy. I'm pretty sure her dress was pink and then I remembered that her color was orange. Note that she still has the clasic glasses here. (ignore them being purple on the left, that's just smth i do in my sketchbook)

Exhibit C:

It's my pinterest board for Sunny. I haven't been drawing for over a month when I made this (health issues) and I rlly wanted to draw Sunny again bcs QSMP being closed was driving me nuts. I actually researched protective hairstyles for this.

Exhibit D:

As you can see her outfit is pretty similar to the first one I decided on. The differences are: Different colors. Her sleeves aren't as poofy so they could be more practical. Glasses are star shaped. (She's a star!) Shoes. I originally drew her with ballet flats but here I gave her sneakers (specifically balenciaga bcs expensive) but ultimately decided to give her boots with butterfly wings. That's an omage to the cosmetic wings she wore on QSMP. (plus being around trains and machines it's more practical to wear boots) And of course the hair. She has mini twists tied into two buns. She has blonde kanekalon weaved into them. Considering coily hair is really dry bleaching is not always a good idea+she's literally a kid. (I know it's fiction, leave me and my brain rot about protective hairstyles and coily hair in general alone.) She also has a toolbelt. She only wears it when she helps her papa around, but it's still stylish and matches her outfit.

Exhibit F:

(I forgot about her tail pls don't point it out) She has cornrows here instead of twists. (I'm gonna be using both of these hairstyle for her) I turned her yellow glasses black to pay respect to her actualy egg form. (the glasses might be compltely different shade but at least they're black) and in the light of that i made her boots black instead of white. And I added diamond earrings bcs she needs to have diamonds in her design.

I really want her to have the vibe she wants to dress like a rich person but she's a kid so she doesn't really have a grasp onto how rich people dress so she resolves to princess, but her dad literally works on trains and other machines so having a big poofy skirt and fur coat and the feather thingy is not practical. So she still manages to dress like a princess while being semi-practical. I think she wore big skirts and feather thingies and white fancy gloves at the beginning, but stopped bcs practicality. And beinfg able to spend time with her pa is more important than looking like a princess. (I might draw that one day but rn my hands are dying.) If you got here I applaud you. This is more text than I have written for my seminar work so far-

She had: Faded Blush, Highlighter on her leg

So gusty! Got her a while back, first started off with removing her head and giving her an oxiclean bath. here she is drying with some other ponies

Step 2 was sunfading her! She faded rather quick, from September to October. (also can you guess who the friend sunfading next to gusty is? :3 )

Now. you can probably tell i made a mistake lol. I was like “the head has no highlighter so i don't need to fade it, only the body.”

forgetting of course that a faded body will have a much lighter shade of white than the head lol

Its a little obvious… and at this point im too lazy/impatient to take the time to fade the head 😭 So i thought “ill make her something she can wear around her neck to hide the neck seam, then she’ll look fine”. sewed a christmasy coat

I also fixed up her blush at this point

What phone cases do they have? Backgrounds? Fancy widgets/little digital pets on the black bar at the top of apple phones?

And I dunno nothing bout no widgets or digital pets, but everyone's got a Borg phone, and if anyone had anything wacky it would be Miranda (and her digital pet would be a dog) or Olivia (with a shark)

Kai: His phone case is a super-cheap plastic one that's just solid red, but he decorates it with fire stickers to "spice it up". Never drops his phone cuz he's always paranoid vigilant about where it is. Home screen is a pic of himself; lock screen is a photo of the main gang just hanging out <3

Jay: Black heavy-duty case with glow-in-the-dark blue lightning bolts, custom made. Very often drops his phone—or it gets knocked off of him—hence the extra padding. Has only broken his screen once. Home screen is a pic of Nya; lock screen...is also Nya.

Cole: Fancy black heavy-duty case, with the rubber on the corners for extra cushion. Swaps between the rainbow-rimmed one he originally had and a glow-in-the-dark lava one Jay made for him, depending on their current endeavors. Lock screen is a pic of his mom; home screen is his current crush.

Zane: Plain white case with a single black bird (falcon) design. Has ironically dropped his phone more than anyone else; only cracked the screen twice (in which Pixal was quick to fix it). Doesn't like photos as a background, as he finds them too distracting, but does eventually change the home screen to a solid icy blue and the lock screen to purple.

Nya: Has one of those cases filled with liquid and glitter that swooshes around when you tilt it. The phone itself is gray, the case itself is clear, but the liquid + decorations are various shades of blue. Has a bad habit of throwing her phone when upset (but eventually has Lloyd to fix it). Lock screen is a scenic beach photo with a dolphin; home screen is a silly photo of Jay.

Lloyd: Doesn't want to bother with a case, since he could just fix any dings on the spot, but eventually gets a cheap one like Kai. Has two: one solid green + trimmed in gold, one black and covered in Starfarer stickers. Swaps them out as needed like Cole. Puts some of those phone charms on the Starfarer case. Both screen backgrounds are photos of the main gang—lock screen is casual wear, home screen is ninja wear (with masks on, of course).

Jesse: Very heavy-duty light pink case with extra padding, due to how accident-prone he is, and covered in dense silver glitter. Doesn't even have to drop his phone to wind up with a cracked screen somehow—but they're usually fixed by Jay or Lloyd. Lock screen is of him and Miranda performing; home screen is a marigold flower.

Antonia: Plain orange case with phone charms of various things that seem to change by the day. Her phone has a strange habit of only breaking during a crisis. Lock screen is of all the student council members; home screen is of her, Jesse, and Harumi (until it is replaced to be her, Jesse, Mira, and Nelson).

Harumi: When she does eventually get a phone, her case varies by whichever "phase" she's in—first one is green and white with spider lilies, second one is black and navy trimmed in silver, third one is pink and purple marble. Her backgrounds are the Shark Army symbol and/or Garmadon's symbol off and on; when they're neither, the backgrounds are just pure black. Maybe a pattern if she's feeling daring.

Olivia: Cheap case, deep blue with a mermaid scale design. Waterproof. Screen is cracked to high heaven but somehow still works; too lazy to fix it. Lock screen is a majestic shark; home screen is her and Nya back when they first met (until it isn't). Lock screen may also sometimes be of any individual she's currently got her eye on, however.

Miranda: Her phone case has one of those "Game Boy" designs in bright blue (that you can play games on); her tablet case is black with neon stripes that change color (which she programmed to stay pink and blue). Drops things often, especially when one-handed, but her stuff is so sturdy that you'd never know. For both items, home screen is a wallpaper of the Borg Tech logo; lock screen is the same picture as Jesse's.

Pixal: Doesn't even need a phone, as all her communication is near-exclusively through the communicators, but is given one due to her father's insistance. The case starts just solid purple, but she feels a little plain with it and winds up bedazzling it. Home screen is a huge group pic; lock screen is of her and Zane.

Skylor: Has one of those cases that changes color with heat, and also works like a mood ring. Is not actually all that phone savvy; has to work up to it. Lock screen is a pic from a girls' night out; home screen is a candid of a very flustered and blushing Kai.

Came right here to complain about that figure because oh my god 200+ for something of THAT quality?

Well you came to the right place to complain bc I don't like it either. And I'm happy to see most other people don't like it bc that means I'm not just a nitpicky bitch.

Like, everything on the store is overpriced, but 250+ Euro for THAT? I'm starting to wonder if the entire merch store is just a money laundering scheme at this point.

For reference, the Unlocked figures from lol are about 80 Euro each and are WAY better quality. And the Unlocked figures are the budget versions. The more high-quality ones are way more expensive. The Skul figure is worth 50 at most. And that's only bc of the novelty of it.

The sculpt is decent at a distance but closer up it looks really dirty.

The paint job is dirty too and so basic. Like, just black and white, no gradient, not even accent colours.

Neither the sculpt nor the paint job is professional.

Even ignoring that, the pose is stiff and boring. Couldn't even add a scarf flowing in the wind. A gun or a flame like the OG figure had. And the OG one captured the OG books cover vibes perfectly and this one is... pretty generic. Honestly, eventho the OG one is cheaper in material quality, I actually like it more than the new one.

This is so the result of nepotism and that's the first thing I thought when Landy said his brother did the figure. At one glance I can tell he wasn't hired for skill. If you look at his Instagram and Artstation, you can tell he has potential, but he just switched from another profession to sculpting in 2022 and you can tell.

He probably went with his brother so he can financially support him/help him with his new career. But also bc it's easier and cheaper than doing it the proper way. Hire a concept artist, hire sculptor, hire a 3d printing company, hire painter and optionally hire someone for the box art. (A mini painter YouTuber did it this way and the result was AMAZING!)

Or just collab with a company that does figures like Youtooz. Everyone who is someone is doing a collab with them right now. First4Figures is like topnotch but can get REALLY pricey, especially with LED stuff. Or McFarlane Toys also got pretty good stuff. Their black light stuff would be so cool for China's tattoos.

So many good options and instead he chooses to use his brother and his brother's 3D printer. I have a 3D printer too, so I can tell the resin costs for each sculpture is very likely less than 5 Euro. The slicer tells you the material costs when exporting the print file. At least the Lychee Slicer does which is the one I use.

The expensive part is the colour. But they only used 4 different colours. And one of those colours is gonna be either black or white primer. Like, that's such a lazy paint job it looks like they only applied the base, no layering, no shade, no dry-brushing, no nothing.

TL;DR: the Skul figure is an overpriced scam, don't buy it. But we both know these figures will sell out eventho by what I've seen the fandom as a whole doesn't like it and thinks it's too expensive. Which it is.

soo @drizzit i don't know if you were expecting an actual answer but I love rendering gold/silver actually so i'll answer haha

I'll tell you that my method was derived from a video I saw like one time and then just ran with the vibes. it might help you but it also would probably be most beneficial when used with actual references lol which I am very bad at using

short version, the shinier you want something to look the bigger the difference between the base and the darker colors and also the more solid the shading should be. if its textured (metal or fabric) it'll reflect less and therefore have less extreme color difference and less solid shades. I also tend to put all my gold pieces on one layer (and silver its own, essential one layer per type of metal) so I can shade in larger sweeping strokes

more with examples under the readmore bc this got kinda long oops

So here's some places where I wanted things to be shiny and chrome. To give it that look i pick a base color, then I pick a waaaay darker color to be the darkest shading, for silver that'll be dark gray or black and for gold I typically use a darker yellow/brown. Then I pick one or two lighter shades in the metal and then sometimes white

below is a typical three colors I use for gold

dont be afraid to use A LOT of the dark color, because the shinier and chromier an object is the more its going to reflect, see below and look how much of the object is NOT silver/gray in color because its reflecting so much. ALSO the different color areas are going to be more solid, like in the silver choker in the first pic where its solid lines of black and gray or below where large, smooth swaths of it is white/black/dark gray

adding a sparkle can also help lol, procreate has a premade shine brush

if an object is textured it will reflect less so you can do less extreme difference between colors and use softer, grainier brushes, below are some reference examples of how those textured metals look

here is a design I made with both gold fabric and textured gold pieces, the shading on the cloth is a lot less... rigid? solid? then the chromes and the dark color not quite as dark, same with the belt buckle. Also the brush i use is softer and with more of a grain so it's less solid and more diffused over the texture

these can be applied to more complicated designs. Typically I like to work with long sweeping strokes because i like to do things fast and a lil lazy. This isn't always going to end up with the most REALISTIC end result but hey, it works. you should still consider things like 'where is the light?' 'where are the objects and things that might reflect on the metal?' but if you want to get nitty gritty use a ref

below is an drawing i did where I started coloring the arm with large sweeping strokes down the whole arm and then I went in and did the detail work to give the decorations depth

lol super late but I got tagged by @chiveburger to do my 2022 top skincare, makeup, and fragrances!! tbh I don’t try new products super often with the exception of lip products but I love to overshare so ty for tagging <3

The ordinary 100% plant derived hemi-squalane - I don’t do much for skincare these days tbh, I have dry/sensitive skin plus eczema so I pretty much just use an oil and cetaphil if I’m lazy. I recently started going through this one I bought a while ago and it’s hydrating enough without feeling as greasy as a lot of oils.

Paula’s choice lip and body balm - I tried sooo many lip balms before finding this and it’s the only one ive used for 5+ years!! I used to use the nuxe reve de miel but the scent irritated my lips. This one is scentless and equally hydrating, and the container lasts me months even though I use it every day. If they ever stopped making it I think I would cry…

Sierra bravo deodorant in white vetiver and cedarwood - ok not skincare but I love this deodorant soo much. Don’t get me wrong I hate the military vibe but I ran out of my smith deodorant and randomly found this one for $3 on sale at uo. The scent is kind of piney kind of old spice vibes but not as strong-smelling and it’s gel-like, so it doesn’t crumble or leave marks.

Skin aqua UV essence tone up sunscreen - I’ve used Japanese sunscreens for a few years bcus they don’t feel like anything on, have high spf, and they’re affordable. I used to use the biore aqua rich, in comparison this one might leave a cast if you have darker skin since it’s not as sheer, but I think the biore one contained alcohol and irritated my skin a bit.

3CE soft matte lipstick in chill move - I never really bought pink lipsticks until this year since I have an orange/yellow undertone. I love 3CE because even their cool shades are suited to warm undertones. It’s a nice mauvy pink that doesn’t make me look dead and it’s not drying for a matte.

3CE syrup layering tint in alive pink - same as the lipstick, this pink is so cute and the formula is really comfortable. It’s somewhere between a gloss and a stain but it’s not drying like a lot of stains and not as thick as a gloss. This shade isn’t super opaque but it layers nicely and leaves my lips feeling moisturized.

Canmake colorful nails n31 lovely shower - my mom and I have always been nail polish hoarders like I’m talking salon quantities of nail polish so I’ve tried a lot... this formula is really smooth and dries quickly, and the color is soo gorgeous! it’s a fine, pearlescent glitter that looks barbie pink and reflects a gold peachy color. It also does not chip! The bottle is a little small but I think I’ll actually use all of it. I found it randomly in a jbeauty shop in SF and am going to try some of the non-glitter colors soon! 

Glossier pro tip liner - pretty much the only makeup I wear consistently is eyeliner. I almost always use felt tips but this brush doesn’t split and isn’t floppy/rectangular (like the brush cap ones). It does dry out but it lasts me the same as the stila one (~4 months) and is super thin and precise, I wish they made it in brown! 

Maison margiela replica sailing day - I just started getting into fragrances this year and out of this sample set and the boy smells one, this is the only one I really liked. It’s very gender neutral and doesn’t have any oppressively perfumey/cologney heaviness to it, and no sweetness which I hate. It’s aquatic and fresh, basically just like clean salt water.

Okay but in all seriousness the way you use color just shifts something in my brain whenever I see it, ESPECIALLY when you choose vibrant colors for the entire piece or only add one vibrant color because just AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH the way I'm SOBBING every time because it's so damn good

Also when you opt for more pastel colors????? It's been a while but back during ✨️our Kirby days✨️ you posted an art piece of Meta Knight sitting in the moonlight and just. The lines, the moon popping out thanks to the limited color pallet, the pastels, the way you made him So Fucking Shaped. It's literally the first thing that comes to my mind whenever I think of Meta. It's just such a stunning artwork like hhhhnnnnggggggGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH IT'S SO GOOD YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I LOVE IT

im rlly proud of that meta knight ur talking about.. it was originally a physical sketch but i liked it sm i turned it digital and then i got silly with the colors

ive always been proud of my colors, but in the past (like idk 7 years ago) i had a weird limited approach to things. i figured out the trick of like,, taking something whose base color is pink and shading with purple. and then that was all i would do, because it pretty consistently made stuff that was pleasing to look at

and i developed a bit on that sorta style for years until my spamton era happened. i started using mspaint a TON and it radically changed my approach to coloring. having to both go into a seperate menu to select colors AND having the black/white slider be required to color pick Made it so that i had to experiment a lot more. mess around, maybe try a lower saturation. and after a while i started getting obsessed with grey tones.

my old old art was all super colorful, but in a sorta predictable way. its nice but didnt leave much of an impression

but in like my current era i use a lot of toned down colors. desaturated, greyish in betweens, playing with warm greys v cool greys, actually appreciating complementary colors

butyeah thats all to say. uh. i like colors a lot and i think about them alot

there r always new ways to approach coloring something and u can make some crazy stuff

ill admit that i feel like alot of my doodles n stuff look a little samey atm. u can tell what colors i default to when im feelin lazy lmao (cream, teal, green, warm pink, etc. all desaturated of course) but then again i havent been drawing much lately, the sample size isnt super big

i wanna make more shit i just never have the ideas or motivation.. i jsut end up doodling fish furries lol

My Morning Routine 😌✨:

i am in love with how perfect my life is… i still get amazed with how i have and get everything i want.

i love how happy & peaceful my life is; when i say there’s never a dull moment, there literally isn’t. i love waking up to my fresh smelling house, and getting up to let the shades up (i got them automatic shades that go out by themselves) i can’t sleep in the heat so my house is always cold so walking into my aesthetically pleasing bathroom that has marble floors i have to turn my heated floors on.

everytime i wake up & go into my bathroom seeing this fine ass face everyday just puts me in awe, cuz y tf am i so goddamn fineeee jeez i love it here and so does my man but we gon get into that ☺️ so yea after i stare at myself for a good 30-45 mins (yes conceited bitches like me be admiring my beauty everyday like this not my fault) i then do my morning routine, i don’t have a skincare routine because my skin is perfect and i literally cannot get acne or anything of that (skin always clean & clear over here) so yea i just wipe my face with cold water. then hop in the shower after i’m done brushing my teeth (which i don’t even have to do tht because my breath literally never stinks and my teeth are always pearly white- y’all being a master manifestor is amazing)

so then after ALL that i get dress in something comfy and go fix me some breakfast, yall y tf do i be making big ass breakfasts like im cooking for a damn family ?? i mean i be cooking for my man sometimes but he don’t be here all the time so anyway.

ima stop right here this is half of my morning routine, i do more than this but i got lazy i do not wanna type anything else lol.

You lay among the wreckage but could only hear it. Crackling fires, creaking trees and machinery... all just outside the edge of your awareness. Lying on your back, eyes upward, all you could see was bright blue sky. As if you were simply lying on the beach at home, pointing out shapes in the clouds to your friends on a lazy afternoon, carefree and safe and okay. You could almost pretend that's all this was. Just another peaceful moment among friends at home.

Except your home had long been destroyed.

And your friends were scattered far and wide.

And you were in deep pain.

The moment shattered as soon as the protective barrier of your adrenaline faded and the pain of your injuries came out full force. You writhed in discomfort, your gaze torn from that beautiful blue expanse above to confront the reality of your situation on the ground. Your ship in pieces, scattered violently among the trees. Your aching body wrapped in the remains of your parachute. And somewhere off in the distance, through broken trees and your own tears, you could just make out another ship landing. Dark, harsh, and terrifying.

You sucked in a breath as you pushed yourself to sit up. This seemed to be a better position. You suspected your back had caught the edge of the explosion as you'd ejected from the cockpit, that it was burnt skin causing you most of your pain. There was also some general soreness in your muscles from the impact of hitting the ground. And your head was also ringing, most likely a concussion. You were alive, but at great cost. One you weren't sure you wanted to pay.

Footsteps crunched through the underbrush of the forrest, the sound eventually making its way through the ringing in your ears. Your eyes flickered first to your helmet a few feet away, rolled on its side with a dark streak of soot across most its features, but the brilliant red logo of the rebellion still visible. And then a pair of shiny black boots came up beside it, and your eyes scanned its body upward.

"Gosh, what an honor," you croaked out, not liking the way your voice sounded so rough and unfamiliar. "A visit from the Grand Admiral himself."

The whiteness of his uniform and the blueness of his skin stood in stark contrast to his surroundings, both against the comforting hues of nature and the dark shades of the Imperial officers beside him. Even the dusty armor of the stormtroopers was no match to the pristine presence of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

"Indeed," he responded to your sarcastic quip with his customary candidness. "I would not risk travel in a firefight for just any fallen Rebel fighter."

You attempted to mock a laugh, but found it rattled your insides a bit too much. Still sitting upright, you curled your legs to the side and leaned heavily on one of your arms for support. "Right. The fighter who banked half a second too late and almost collided with a cliff. That's the one worth your time."

Thrawn titled his head in thought and took a step forward. "You do not give yourself enough credit, Captain. You fly not only with instinct, but with skill. You have just identified your mistake occurred in half of a second. Only someone with great knowledge and experience would understand the difference such a small amount of time can make."

Your vision was starting to spin so you could barely hold on to any of his words. They sounded vaguely comforting, though you weren't sure why. Yes, you'd given Thrawn and his crew hell these past few weeks with your ambushes and counter-attacks. You'd been fighting with the Rebel Alliance for quite some time, but only recently had you acquired a proper ship to really do some damage with. You could only imagine what a nuisance you were to him. Was that why he was here? To swat the annoying fly himself?

You took in a few deep, measured breaths, noting how painful it was to stretch your lungs. Gods, this would be embarrassing if it were not so painful. Your head had lowered but the Grand Admiral's boots had journeyed closer and were now back within your view. You coughed weakly, unable to clear your throat enough to sound like yourself again.

"You know... I always though the one saving grace to being a pilot... Was if I failed, it would be a quick death. Incinerated by my own ship. Or gone upon impact. What a cruel joke this is... to survive...."

You forced yourself to look back up at the man. Your adversary. Standing for everything you fought against. Now towering over you in victory.

"Please," you rasped with watering eyes. "If you respect me at all, give me a death that's fitting of it."

Thrawn continued to look at you passively, as if you were no more than a dull report he had to proof. Your vision still wasn't working well so you lowered your head back down, defeated.

Eventually he crouched down into a kneeling position beside you.

"I would... Were respect all I held for you."

You looked into his distinctive eyes, trying to find deeper meaning within them but only seeing a sea of crimson, blurring into confusing patterns as your brain fought to hold on to consciousness.

"No," Thrawn continued softly. Or perhaps your hearing was giving out as well. "There is one more thing you possess. And I'm afraid I could never kill you for it."

"And what's that?" you managed to force out, and you suspected it'd be the last thing you were capable of saying as everything, all your senses, began to shut down. You were able to hear his simple response just before blacking out, though understanding it would have to come later.

"My admiration."

You awoke in a bed. A decently comfortable one, with silky soft sheets and adequate space on either side to roll into any position. The lights in the room were dimmed, the air was at a pleasant temperature, and after a few seconds of holding your breath, you determined there were no other beings in here with you.

This wasn't right.

Your memories were in tact, so it made no sense why you shouldn't be strapped to an interrogation table or chained up in a cell. You'd probably be more at ease if you were. Such a situation would be predictable, while this... who knew what the Empire had in store, having you wake up like this.

Your paranoia led you to sit up abruptly, the motion causing the lights to turn up to full brightness, and both stimulus sensations immediately caused you to be sick. You barely threw yourself to the edge of the bed in time before whatever was left in your stomach went spilling unceremoniously onto the floor.

You stared for a while at the unsavory smattering of liquids on the dark, metallic floor beneath you, trying to regain your composure. By the time you did, and were able to push yourself to lean backward onto some pillows without threat of another nauseous moment overtaking you, you'd been awake long enough for someone to notice.

That familiar, crisp-white uniform was standing across from your bed in no time, appearing much more suited to these surrounding than where you'd first seen him.

"Sleep well?"

Hm. Pleasantries and nice accommodations. What was the Admiral up to?

"I'm pretty sure I was just unconscious," you responded. Your voice seemed to be less scratchy now, though there was still an uncomfortable burn in the back of your throat, most likely from throwing up.

"You were in and out several times," stated Thrawn. "The last few hours were more akin to sleep than unconsciousness."

"Okay." You weren't sure what else to say to that. He was stating facts, not making conversation. And you were still unsure why you were alive to hear it at all.

"You will be allowed another day to fully recover," he continued, unfazed by the oddness of this situation. "A medical droid will monitor your progress and assist with any rehabilitation you may need. We will expect you in Hangar 12 tomorrow at 0800 hours sharp."

He nodded in conclusion and turned to leave. That was it? No further information about why you were here or what was expected of you tomorrow in Hangar 12? You scooted yourself to sit further up on your pillows.

"Wait," you called after him. Thrawn turned back to you with an eyebrow cocked and the faintest of smirks along his lips. Ah, so he was being dramatic. Testing your curiosity. Bastard.

"You said something about admiration? Before." You wouldn't outright ask him what he wanted with you; you'd play your own game and get it out of him a different way.

"Yes." Thrawn strode back, making to circle the bed but stopping short as he noticed your sick still pooled on the floor. He paused and then readjusted his course for the other side of the bed. "Before you started flying for the Rebellion, my forces rarely met a challenge they could not overcome. This change in status quo became most apparent on Doog Kull. The high pressure atmosphere caused pilots on both sides difficulty, except, seemingly, for you. Not only were you able to survive the conditions, you were able to use them to your advantage. Such skill is to be admired."

Perhaps you were flattered to hear praise from the Grand Admiral of the Empire, a man well known for his superior intelligence and high standards. There were probably very few in the galaxy who could boast of receiving his praise. But your self-gratification was short lived as you started to suspect what the man was after. You were not dead, you were not a prisoner, you were recognized for your exceptional piloting skills....

"Let me guess," you sighed, disappointed in where this was headed. "You spared my life so I'd be in your debt and fly for the Empire."

"No. You will not be flying."

You blinked at him and waited for more explanation. When it was clear he would not provide it without you asking for it, you huffed and gave in. "What do you want from me then?"

His eyes were not as close to you now as they had been when he'd knelt by you in the forrest, but you were much more lucid now and able to fully take them in. There was an obvious sharpness to them, like a laser cutting into darkness. But once you got past that unnerving detail, you could also see a sort of... craving there. An understanding that the world was vast and full of undiscovered wonders, and the only way to know all of it was to keep your eyes open, your mind free from preconception. It was oddly alluring.

"I want you to teach."

Another simply stated sentence, and you were beginning to catch on that he wasn't purposefully being dramatic after all. He spoke volumes with few words and only elaborated when the receiver was unwilling to think through their meaning. You sat back against your pillows; you hadn't realized you'd been tensely leaning forward. Thrawn took this as his cue to try departing once more.

"Get your rest, Captain," he said over his shoulder. "You will need all of your strength for what's to come."

Welp, here we go! First piece of art on this blog.

I drew this for MerMay, since that's something I've wanted to participate in for a while and never did. I got kinda lazy with it though and never did any shading for it, lol.

Nagito is based on a koi fish, Makoto is a freshwater angelfish, Junko is a lion fish, and Monokuma is a great white shark. Out of them all, Makoto's color palette went through the most changes, since his base colors aren't super interesting (I still love him though, precious bean).

-- Schlatt: Has a small red apple pack. He carries an apple in it and the bag's so small his textbooks and notes don't fit. He has random places he hides his work and usually he just steals from other people.

-- They never actually told anyone they're all dating so everyone teases them they're gay and the council's like "um. yeah we are-" they never actually say it.

-- Some people in the school did figure it out but no one besides Schlatt even thinks of the possibility that they're all poly. One of the peeps are like "OMG CHARLIE I SAW GRIZZLY KISSING BIZLY" and the group died a bit inside because the person announced that all in front of them. The bell conveniently rings before the the group can respond.

-- One bit where they are dragged by Schlatt to commit vandalism and other crimes.

june/july before and afters 😎

took a break from giffing for a hot minute since february, but i’m back now for the comeback 😎 it’s a bit before the end of july, but i didn’t have anything to post for today while i’m away so i’ll do this instead. out of all the months, i think this one had the most gifs where i was content with my colour corrections or my colouring choices. every time i thought, ‘you know what, i’m too lazy for this,’ i slapped another corrective layer instead. this is definitely a ‘thank myself later’ moment LOL the first two (karina, winrina) were definitely my best colour corrections. the first lighting looked like a hellspawn and i severely questioned both my ability and my sanity when i decided to gif it. there are definitely things i would change about it but im mostly content with the blacks, blues, and skin tone so it’s a W for me. the winrina one was as nice restoration. a bit tough because of the whites, but glad i could make it look like they stepped into the sun. the next two (click to enlarge) are ones i wasn’t satisfied with. the studio choom one... i wanted to bring out blues but it was really tough on the skin tone and i had trouble working with the magenta lighting. ended up doing a mish mash of things i didnt like and a shade of blue i’m not happy with. i think this was one of those where i changed things i didnt have to and possibly ruined a perfectly good video. the fancam was just... i don’t know... not what i imagined...? i wanted more pink but i was scared of eliminating the non-existent skin tone and, idk, ended up with some orange pink purple clumpy colouring. i shouldve paused in the middle to think after the original plan didn’t work, but i kept forcing it and rushing... lesson learned. at least she cute tho... then comes lts winter and mcore illusion winter. these are ones where i was content with my color and cleaning fixes; when i thought i had to be okay with it not looking good, but figured it out in the end (... i think?). the lts mv was REALLY washed out so restoring the blacks without ruining the light pink vibe (when the pinks were REALLY STRONG) was really difficult. it took a lot of minute fixes but i like how it turned out! the illusion one... i wanted to trash that one SO BAD. i actually planned on doing ning first but it ended up so terribly that i scrapped the entire thing. but then i got frustrated at myself for giving up so i tried again with winter... because whenever i gif winter and want to give up mary comes and slaps me and tells me winter deserves better *s0b* . i really experimented with the denoising here (like 3 different methods in different combinations??) because the sharpening and LED lights of the stage were SO frustrating. i’m also pretty sure winter has skin more on the cool-tone side so the colours were a bit difficult to manage. considering what i had to work with, i’m content with what i did! gma winter and racer winter!!! i’m proud of these two because these are ones where i consciously made a decision and chose a certain deviation from what i normally do. gma winter - i wanted to make it look like she literally came out of fire to cut up black mamba... brrr ow!. it was difficult because the sun made the video REALLY bright and exposed and washed out and i nearly lost my mind. in the end i applied some layers that broke some colouring rules that i normally keep. even though the before/after doesn’t look too great to me on its own, i feel that it looks quite nice as a set so i’m happy with how it turned out. racer winter is one where i made a decision to not make a lot of changes. this before/after shows the most change out of all of them, but the others in the set look like they haven’t changed. most of all, i was proud of my decision not to restore skin tone like i normally do. it was a day after i had a picture taken of me in a room with bright lighting and i looked like a ghost. and i was like damn i guess sometimes keeping the skin light and not darkening it is actually closer to the truth... so i did it here. i think it looks great and keeps it real. as much as it’s important to be careful of whitewashing when giffing, i believe it’s just as important to not darken, redden, or yellow skin past what makes sense with the portrayed lighting.  last one is ningie! idk i just made this one and she’s just so cute so i put it in here. used a combination of things i tested this month and im cool with it 😎 if you read up to here... wow thanks 😎. it’s honestly quite tedious to make a before/after version of every gif i make, but i think it’s really leveled up my giffing and helped me reflect on what i can do to get better at this. (it’s also super satisfying to look at.) this is definitely something i’ll keep doing, and something i’d love to see other people do as well if they’re up for it! next month’s goals... make everything work. i’m planning to gif every stage regardless of how painful it is and regardless of how much it’s been done. just having a record of what i’ve watched and enjoyed when going through my m:gif tag has always given me a lot of fulfillment, so i’m looking forward to this project. excited to push my limits 🤟🏻 also going to start a winter in kwangya hell series  good night and yow! 🤟🏻😎
