Little Moments in S2E2 of Heaven Official's Blessing
Tumblr media
San Lang's jewelry sparkling when he's amused (?) by something. This one happens when the ghost gambling bets his daughters life. Reminds me of an anime glasses character's glass shine. this happens several times through the episode and is usually accompanied by a high pitched metallic sound. Like the chime of a sword unsheathing.
Tumblr media
The green deer demon girl is adorable. Loving the frog man too.
Tumblr media
The wind master genderbending back into a man after being dragged to a ghost spa with the undead women and freaking out about what kinda of products they used on his precious skin.
Tumblr media
Xie Lian physically grabbing the wind master to keep him from slipping away to find a mirror. You're on a potentially life or death mission my guy. Bring a compact mirror on your next adventure. Fast thinking on an excuse by Xie Lian though!
Tumblr media
This guy having zero points in stealth on a mission that the emperor himself said must be handled discreetly to avoid conflict with the ghost realm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how they both panic, than immediately accept Qianqiu's imminent death at Hua Cheng's hand after he continues to insult the man in his own establishment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'This place of mine is meant for revelry. If you don't want to take the path to heaven, and break into hell, what else can you do?' Hua Cheng revealing that he knew who they were already. Which isn't surprising because they all stand out enough as is, even if his husband wasn't with them and standing within within eyesight.
Tumblr media
Respecting the demons/ghosts for calling out Qianqiu when he said they're lacking humanity and decency. Like 'Bruh, We are literally NOT human. We don't share you're morals or sense of decency at all. Just let us live our lives.' Like, I'm actually in agreement with them.
Tumblr media
Getting into an air bender battle, while San Lang is barely flicking his wrist at him. I like how San Lang crushes the table and sends the shards flying at him. Showing he could easily impale Qianqiu before pulling him up at the last moment. It felt like San Lang was trying to teach him. He might have recognized that Qianqiu was young and foolish, but was trying to do good. So San Lang warns him by showing him what could happen if he keeps running his mouth without knowing who he's threatening. That or he decided not to dice Qianqiu because Xie Lian was watching... could go either way
Tumblr media
HuaLian having a tender moment looking into each other's eyes while everyone waits downstairs confused.
San Lang 100% offered Qianqiu as a prize to give Xie Lian the chance to help him and Him the chance to hold hands with Xie Lian X'D
Tumblr media
We hear that metallic chime noise again here. I think San Lang gave Xie Lian some of is luck here. San Lang also holds Xie Lian's hands on the final round too when Xie Lian rolled two 6's and wins.
Tumblr media
Everyone's reaction to San Lang calling Xie Lian 'Gege'. Qingxuan is curious and confused. Qianqiu looks shocked and a little embarrassed. and the grandma Pleakley looking demon's head falls off their body.
Tumblr media
San Lang telepathically ordering his assistant to have everyone STFU while he's playing with Xie Lian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wind Master Qingxuan pelting Qianqiu with his fan for continuing to run his mouth.
Tumblr media
San Lang being completely smitten with Xie Lian as he drops a man from the ceiling
Tumblr media
Xie Lian making Qianqiu shut his mouth. Dude BE QUIET! They JUST saved you.
Tumblr media
It was incredibly sweet how when San Lang approaches Xie Lian asking for the bet he's owed, Qianqiu steps between them and holds his arm out to protect Xie Lian from who he perceives to be a threat. Qianqiu knows he wouldn't win, but he moves to protect Xie Lian anyway. He's so foolish but so brave.
Tumblr media
San Lang would eat stale pringles off the floor if Gege touched them,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prince being to good for his own good again by telling Xie Lian not to lie to Hua Cheng. Despite himself not liking him at all for treating him like a pinata prize in front of everyone.
This was a very cute episode and there were so many enjoyable moments.

Hello,so i've been brainrotting about Pei ming genuinely falling in love with f!reader,but the reader always ignored him since he is known for using women for fun,but he just keeps trying so hard to win reader over and prove he's actually inlove with them. It would be great if you could write this in hcs,you can ignore this if you dont want to
I Have Standards
Pei Ming x F!reader
Tumblr media
Do you know how long I had to search the gifs for him?
____________________________________
Pei Ming is a womanizer everyone knows that
But Pei Ming genuinely has found an interest in you. Truthfully!
You intrigue him, however you also ignore him
So he hasn't been able to get far in his affections
Most women don't ignore him like this you know?
Pei Ming has been chasing you around like a lost dog, trying to prove his love to you
He's tried to woo you, give you flowers, buy you expensive things, take you out
But no you ignore him gracefully as if he were your fan
This man is genuinely confused. Like??? Why is she ignoring me ugh I got to step up my game I guess
Doesn't realize it's because of his reputation until Ling Wen tells him
Which she only did, because he wouldn't stop bitching in her ear about how his lovely crush won't bat an eyelash at him.
She wishes you the best of luck
Now that he knows the problem lies within his reputation he doesn't know how to fix that. . .
How does one go back and fix the past?
Ling Wen tells him he's stupid and maybe he should try to clean up his act. Then you'll look at him.
So that's what he attempts to do.
He should've done that in the first place but like he's trying okay?
Pei Ming really isn't all that bad, he just needs to get you to actually talk to him now.
Asks Ling Wen how he's supposed to sit down with you and she sends him right to your door.
Ling Wen is probably the only reason you guys have a chance of being together because she paid you off to deal with him.
She's sick of it
You stay true to your word though and give him a chance to woo you.
You sit in your palace lounge with crossed legs.
You aren't expecting anything heart felt
However you sit with wide eyes when Pei Ming pours his heart out to you.
Pei Ming practiced this speech like several times.
"I know I don't have the best reputation with women, but if you could give me a chance I promise to treat you right and not throw you to the side like rumours say I would"
Etc, etc
Okay so you're woo'd
Do you know what time period it is? Especially as a women?
All men are too afraid of their feelings and some are too busy being gay with each other cough, cough Xie Lian.
It just doesn't leave a girl like you many options
But you do like Pei Ming you've just never told him because of the whole reputation thing
You've been quiet for a long time, Pei Ming almost thinks you're going to say no.
Very happy when you say yes!
Astounded when you say you'll castrate him if he does you wrong.
He'll accept that!

I hope I wasn't rambling 😞 but yip yip guys 🖤

Yandere Hualian x reader.
Warning: In the fem reader's first life, she was the younger sister of General Pei Ming. She lived as a beautiful young woman loved by her brother, without caring that he was a womanizer. Then, according to Pei Ming's ascension story, when he was accused of treason and broke his sword. However, the reader remained in the mortal realm and was unjustly executed. After 800 years she is reincarnated again, but as a humble traveler, there she meets Xie Lian and Huan cheng (you decide how) after many adventures together. He then reunites with his brother, although at first he does not remember him, although Pei Ming insists that he was once his brother. Little by little she will remember her past life. In the end he has a relationship with Huan cheng and Xie lian, and when he remembers his previous life, he sadly dies, but some time later he is reincarnated again.
(I based this request on some Chinese dramas, thank you for accepting it.)
Oooh interesting, also my first heaven officials blessing/tgcf request yay!
Warning: noob author, female reader, yandere characters, and others.
Characters: hualian (hua cheng and xie lian).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were the little sister to pei Ming, you didn’t mind his womanizing ways but you always scold him to be careful as one of those woman he woo’s could seek revenge when he breaks her heart. Though not many gods knew about you as you had died a little after your brother ascended to godhood, falsely accused and executed over a misunderstanding along with how you were the little sister to pei Ming so they thought you had a part in the rebellion even though you were innocent, your brother couldn’t save you as he had only learned after your death that you were in trouble and it was already too late to save you.
Pei Ming has hope that you might reincarnated or turned into a ghost and he just couldn’t find you good enough. He has searched high and low for you, and when he gets frustrated he usually woo women’s hearts and release his frustration by having sex with them and leaving afterwards to continue searching for you after the stress and frustration is out of his body.
Pei Ming was right to think you reincarnated though it was only after 800 years had you finally reincarnated this time as a young female and humble traveler, each time you have left a place he would arrive missing you each time as you have never stayed in one place for too long which resulted you in meeting a nice young man by the name of xie lian who is a humble cultivator also traveling. You soon start having a crush on xie lian as he is such a kind person so it was no surprise when you started developing feelings for the young man.
On your journey with xie lian you meet many interesting people and fight against some enemies as well, though even when you can fight it’s not as good as two junior officials from the heavens and your crush; xie lian, fighting though xie lian always seems to be there for you no matter what and can protect you and your weak spots which warms your heart and love for him.
You soon met hua cheng when you had became a bride bait to lure out the ghost groom or also known as ghost bride as you all soon found out that the ones behind the disappearance of brides was a woman one who shared history with pei Ming, who you find familiar in name but can’t place where it was familiar. Pei jr saw you and noted to tell his father about you.
You later met San lang when he was with you while you and xie lian was riding a cart together to get back home to your little shrine in piqu village, later spending the night there with you and xie lian before the two junior officials came by again with another mission to banyue(?) pass. Many months later and many adventures later you, San lang who you later found out was hua cheng, and xie lian who you also found out later was a god, started a relationship together.
Pei Ming had soon asked xie lian if he could meet you as you very well could be his sister who finally reincarnated, xie lian at first was worried that pei Ming would flirt with you but soon found out that you were pei Ming’s reincarnated sister and let pei Ming meet you though with a subtle warning on if pei Ming hurt you he and hua cheng would show no mercy even if he was your past life brother. You were skeptical about the situation between you and pei as you had no memories and there wasn’t really any proof and pei Ming could have gotten the wrong person but after meeting pei Ming you kept getting memories of your past life but before you could celebrate on finding out the pei Ming is actually your brother you were sadly killed by a jealous woman who had mistaken you for pei Ming’s lover instead of sister.
The woman was soon tortured and killed by hua cheng, xie lian and pei Ming, thankfully the woman was a ghost so xie lian and pei Ming didn’t get in trouble on killing her if she was human, and even if she was it would be easy to hide that fact considering who the three were. Hua cheng and xie lian are now on the hunt for your next life with pei Ming as the two both love you and won’t let you go even after you die and pei had just found you he won’t lose your next life like he did last time which means he gives up on womanizing if it meant you won’t get hurt like you did last time. You won’t ever escape them and no one will ever take you away from them now.
(A/n: hope yall liked it!! I decided on making pei Ming a platonic yandere as I thought it fit plus since xie lian and hua cheng were already yandere i thought why not him too? lol anyway hope yall have a wonderful day/evening/night!!)
The Land of the Tender scene is so uncomfortable, but somehow manages to skirt around squicking me. It's uncomfortable because the characters are uncomfortable. They're not getting off on it, and it doesn't feel like it's meant to be fanservice or get the reader hot either, imo.
There's all kinds of fics and meta revolving around Xie Lian's mountainous piles of trauma, but I want more fics dealing with Hua Cheng having trauma around his sexuality and desires. Like --
He's a teenage boy, a big ball of hormones wrapped up in too-long limbs, and his crush has been drugged with aphrodisiac and is panting and flushed and beautiful. The god-prince is hot beneath his clumsy hands and his hair is tied around his finger and the younger boy is at that age where you think you're all grown up already. He'd give everything to his god if it would help at all, and he wouldn't even understand how fucked up that would be until years later.
But. Xie Lian hates the feeling. It was forced on him, it's a scheme to weaken and torture him. He knows the little soldier is still a child, even if the boy does not. And Xie Lian is the only person who has ever protected Hong'er, and Hong'er wants so badly to protect him, but all he can do is stand between him and the evil spirits meant to seduce him. And they catch on to how he feels; they're taunting, they're dancing naked in the prince's form. And in the most base and physical sense the boy is aroused, because he's fifteen and how the hell could he possibly not be, even though his heart is aching and his stomach is churning? And the person he most adores is suffering behind him, pinned to dirt and stone by a blade because he'd rather have that than hurt the boy or surrender some part of himself, and in front of Hong'er the spirits taunt and laugh at his face.
And someday years later Hong'er will be in another cave, alone with the darkness. And the memory of his god will fuel him; will be breath and heartbeat when he no longer has either. And he will carve and chisel, mark Xie Lian's memory into mountains. And somewhere amongst those memories will be that memory, of how he looked dewy-eyed and warm and wanting. The ghost will imagine that same look in a different context: what it would be like to have him look that way but also be safe and happy and wanting him. And that fantasy comes to life too, in the darkness, never meant to be seen by any eye but his own.
And someday centuries later his god's mutinous companions will call him pervert and stalker and he'll be right back in that cave at fifteen, hard and hating it, feeling like a traitor for wanting something his god does not. And by now he knows the taste of Xie Lian's mouth and the feel of his body against his but there's always that thin veil of plausible deniability and he dares not allow himself to think he wants him beyond power siphoned from his lips, even as he knows Xie Lian is too kind to use someone so shallowly. Hua Cheng dares not think Xie Lian loves him. And there in that cave where he once carved alone, he braces himself for utter rejection. Perhaps Xie Lian will have mercy, and crush the ring he wears beneath his heel.
But then comes the twist of fingers in Hua Cheng's clothes and the warmth of a body curling against his back and...
And I just think we need more of Hua Cheng being absolutely terrified of his own wanting and Xie Lian being the one to comfort and soothe him and assure him it's okay.
I tend to forget about Hua Cheng’s crippling self-image issues because Xie Lian is dehydrated over the man and it shows, but
Queerplatonic Xianle Quartet where HC is mostly fine around Xie Lian with his real face -- Gege loves him and loves the way he looks and sometimes remembering that is harder than others but he’s working on it and his god is always there to remind him when he stumbles -- and like, Xie Lian’s opinion is literally the only opinion that matters, so fuck everybody else. Gege likes his face. You can all deal.
Only then without him even realizing it had happened, suddenly Mu Qing and Feng Xin’s opinions do matter and he still hasn’t realized that he’s started to actually care about those idiots but he has noticed that he’s deeply uncomfortable wearing his real face around them recently. All those Oh My God I’m A Hideous Monster thoughts come bubbling to the surface and he can’t stand that he’s been walking around with his actual face out around those two this whole time.
Obviously Hua Cheng starts shifting around the two of them more and more often (It doesn’t have anything to do with them he just likes shifting shut up) and then he runs into a whole brand new wave of weirdness, because he’s used to making his forms look dangerous, seductive, dripping with sex appeal. Only, he doesn’t want Feng Xin or Mu Qing to think he’s fuckable? He doesn’t want to bang them, and he knows they don’t want to bang him. What he wants is for them to think he looks... nice? Dependable? Like he’d give good hugs?
Suddenly Hua Cheng is experimenting with forms that have kind eyes and friendly, open faces and layers of softness over muscles like iron, and Mu Qing and Feng Xin (who also Definitely Do Not Like Him And Don’t Care About Him What Are You Implying Shut Up) are suddenly having the absolutely fucking bizarre experience of wanting to snuggle Crimson Rain Sought Flower.
Feng Xin has an absolutely awful day and walks into a room to see Hua Cheng’s newest version of a papa bear form, big and broad and soft and strong, and he genuinely has an out-of-body experience over how badly he wants to just. Kind of burrow against his chest and stay there until everything is softer and smaller and quieter and farther away.
Mu Qing sees Xie Lian and Hua Cheng snuggling -- Hua Cheng’s newest form is this tiny, curvy, busty lady with a round face and big dark eyes and soft soft hands, perfect for squishing and squeezing and holding like a stuffed animal -- and he just seethes with jealousy watching Xie Lian sink his fingers into her soft soft skin and nuzzle into her soft soft shoulder. He has the thought of I bet she’d be so nice to cuddle and then he has to walk away because fucking What??
Of course this all eventually culminates in something happening and Feng Xin and Mu Qing get their shit rocked and Hua Cheng shows up in his true form to help them out, at which point we somehow get the reveal that they already associate his actual face with support and security and comfort because they know he has their back and he does not need to squeeze himself into different shapes to appeal to them. We like you for you, idiot. Yeah, really. We were shocked too.
Xie Lian through all of this is living his best life getting to squeeze and squish and cuddle with all of San Lang’s new forms and also getting to fuck them because unlike FengQing Xie Lian is sexually attracted to Hua Cheng and damn if these new bodies aren’t extremely excellent to play with. His favorite is still true form though. He’s a sucker for the classics.
Anyway tl;dr touch starved emotionally repressed idiots discover they have a nonsexual crush on their childhood best friend’s husband, said husband does the nonsexual equivalent of walking around in just a bikini, in the end everybody cuddles about it.
ok but i actually have sm to say about qi rong's relationship with anger. i could honestly just link a fic i wrote about it here bc i think i worded it better there than i ever can again but my ao3 links to my main twt and i prefer to keep rp stuff separate from my personal stuff for reasons sooooo lemme try to write it differently
cw for mentions of domestic violence bc holy shit like 99% of his character traces back to that in some way
the key thing is, of course, that anger is a trauma response for qi rong. he has every reason to be fucking pissed at like, all times, but fundamentally, his anger is not rational. rage and violence are all he knows! his earliest childhood memories are of being abused and seeing his mother be abused! even when he got out of that, he and his mother were bullied and ostracized, and his mother was eventually murdered. violence and cruelty shape his early childhood and in turn shape who he is today (enabled in large part by the queen's reluctance to properly discipline him when he began exhibiting cruel behavior himself).
in many cases, it's about revenge--getting "even", though he usually takes it much farther than the original offense. his father was abusive? he'll delight in warring against people from the same town as him. the yong'an rebellion tore away the one good thing he had in his life--his royal status? he'll crush their entire royal & noble classes in a single night. xie lian fell off the pedestal he held him on, "failed" and "abandoned" him? unforgivable.
very often, it's simply lashing out. the world has been cruel to him, so he'll be cruel too.
mostly, though, his anger just keeps him going. if he doesn't have his anger, then what does he have? sadness, loneliness, despair, heartbreak, misery.
being a ghost adds another angle to it, too--he can't let go of his anger, even if he wants to. well, he could, but then he'd disappear, and he doesn't want that. not yet. it's his source of life. it's also his source of power! and it's easy to forget with how often the rest of the cast and the narrative itself dunks on him, but he has a lot of power. #4 in the entire ghost realm! a near-supreme, one successful furnace trip away from becoming a full-fledged ghost king!
just--imagine, for a moment, being him. an abused kid--powerless--who suddenly learns that he's actually a prince--powerful!--and then, before even reaching adulthood, his kingdom crumbles, and he eventually dies just as powerless as he started. and then all that resentment causes him to come back even more powerful than before. it's no wonder he leans into it.
idk this is getting long-winded but i guess what i'm trying to say is--his anger is both justified and overblown, it is both understandable and irrational, it is something he needs to hold onto no matter how much it hurts him. he is his anger.
@sharkfish are you sure you want to know? You're going to hate it.
Okay so last year, @/selpuku, who is an artist for several fandoms I'm in, posted this
Tumblr media
on Twitter. They specified in a second comment that they meant primarily Moshang, which is a ship between Shang Qinghua, who is a book author who dies, wakes up in his own book as a baby, and then grows up to adulthood in the book, so who is at least 50 years old probably older, and Mobei Jun, who is a character in the book and a very powerful demon who Shang Qinghua spies for and, well, there's too much to explain succinctly but there's probably a 30 year age difference but Shang Qinghua doesn't realize at all that Mobei Jun is (in canon this is) interested and it takes a while for them to figure it out. The power dynamics are complicated; Shang Qinghua is older and basically created the entire book verse, but in-verse he's fairly weak and Mobei Jun could pretty easily crush him like a bug if he wanted to (but instead, as the pic says, Mobei Jun wants to rail him so bad).
Anyway, so far, so fandomy and normal for fandom.
But then.
Tumblr media
Someone Quote-Retweeted it to scream about how "reverse grooming" was not a ship dynamic and it was disgusting and all the usual anti crowd jumped on board. I've got OP for the reverse grooming post and basically all the other involved people blocked so I can't find many receipts now (and finding anything older than a day on Twitter is nearly impossible anyway) but in the replies to the "reverse grooming" post a whole bunch of people went off agreeing and sharing all the examples from danmei especially that they felt reflected this supposed dynamic where a younger person somehow "grooms" an older one into a relationship. They especially went off on Hualian, which is the relationship between Hua Cheng (an 810 year old super powerful ghost) and Xie Lian (an 817 year old super powerful god). Because they met when Xie Lian was 17 and Hua Cheng was 10, they are a ripe target for the dumbest takes ever. Antis split between what's going on here, it's usually either "its pedophilia because Hua Cheng was only a kid when they met" (never mind that they get together literally 800 years later) or "Hua Cheng is an obsessive stalker and his behavior is abusive" (never mind that between about the time when they're 23/16 respectively and 817/810 respectively they literally don't see each other for 800 years). Their actual dynamic is more like fan/celebrity, where Hua Cheng is embarrassed everytime his fannish behavior (note: no not Finnish behavior, autocorrect, lmao) is revealed, and Xie Lian is always super chill about it, and they fall in love, and happy otp feels abound.
So yeah people antis decided that Hualian was the quintessential example of this so-called "reverse grooming" dynamic since Xie Lian was obviously not an abuser but they're positive in their vibes read that the relationship is toxic so therefore one of then MUST be the abuser which means Hua Cheng must be the abuser. and there's also initially an age difference and since antis only have like three insults to hurl at ships they don't like and "pedophilia" obviously didn't apply (since Hua Cheng is younger) and incest didn't apply (since there's zero way they could be related) and grooming didn't apply (since Xie Lian didn't have a hand in raising Hua Cheng, though there are absolutely antis who think the opposite, that Xie Lian is the abuser of the two and is a groomer etc) anyway the point is if none of those is the problem it's time to invent a new term for what happened and that's "reverse grooming" where the younger one "grooms" the older one into a relationship the older one wouldn't have wanted otherwise.
Even quite aside from how utterly unsupportable this is in canon, it's still absolutely batshit. Of course it's possible for younger partners to abuse older partners and even manipulate them into relationships but even considering that, "reverse grooming" is still a batshit way to refer to such a dynamic.
Anyway this exploded on danmei Twitter, and beyond that even, for about a week.
Now you know. You're welcome. And sorry.
Hi do you still have some headcanons for your bsd tgcf au you sparked some fireworks in my mind and now I need more if you have some :)
hi!! i'm flattered that you're interested in my au, but unfortunately, i never ended up making more beyond that original post lol. it gained really slow traction at first so i didn't think anyone cared
however, if you're interested, i DO have some notes on an old bsd/tgcf crossover. i won't be able to write it anymore though bc my writing process has changed a LOT since then
• 2 ½ centuries after the canon events of tgcf
• (random note: pei xiu and shi qingxuan have re-ascended)
• mount tong'lu opens up again
• a bunch of martial gods and junior officials are sent to cut off the paths, but a powerful savage-level ghost called "rashoumon" kills them off
• rashoumon has the ability to turn the fabric of his clothing into whatever he wants
• the heavenly officials have a meeting in the public communication array and decide to send martial gods to kill off any ghosts who have a shot at becoming supremes again
• hua cheng, xie lian, pei ming, lang qianqiu, mu qing, and feng xin are sent again
• guzi also goes
• shi qingxuan insists on going too because she believed there's a chance that he xuan will be there
• a god known as dazai osamu, who ascended a century ago and is able to nullify spiritual energy with a single touch, also goes because, based on the description of rashoumon's abilities, he believes he knows him
• he brings along nakajima atsushi, a god who can transform into a tiger and used to be his deputy god
• obviously, one of their big targets is rashoumon
• but there's also he xuan who might seek going through the kiln to become even more powerful
• he and shi qingxuan meet again and their relationship is beyond repair
• however, he xuan confesses to regretting exacting revenge on shi wudu and that he genuinely cared for shi qingxuan despite everything
• they seperate again, but not before he xuan properly apologizes
• there's also another savage-level ghost called "arahabaki" that can crush people into the ground and move things with his mind
• about a century ago, a man with the same powers infiltrated ghost city with a few subordinates and burned down the qiandeng temple
• (still refering to what happened a century ago) hua cheng and xie lian hunted him down to a cultivation sect and found the man insanely drunk on wine
• they fought, and despite the fact that the man was a mortal at the time, his martial arts abilities and spiritual abilities forced the both of them to fight to their limits
• there was a point where the both of them were being crushed into the ground and hua cheng took the opportunity to get e'ming to stab him in the back
• apparently, that wasn't even the full extent of the man's power
• he muttered, "dammit. you better come back for me, you bastard. o grantors of dark disgrace, you need not wake me again."
• the humanity in his eyes disappeared and he became a terrifying being, sending blasts of pressure at them
• hua cheng and xie lian barely escaped with their lives
• (present day again) they find arahabaki and it turns out, his name was nakahara chuuya
• he fights with hua cheng and xie lian again until dazai nullifies his ability and knocks him out gently when things become too intense
• hua cheng: "what was that for?"
• dazai: "as much as i respect you and your power, you can only dream of ever reaching the same level as chuuya."
• that night at the camp the gods have set up, hua cheng, xie lian, and dazai explain how they each know chuuya
• dazai explains how they were partners in a cultivation group called the "port sect" led by a man named mori ougai
• mori, along with a man named fukuzawa yukuchi, was an apprentice of a god named natsume souseki who discovered that every soul was unique, and if one went under certain training, they could unlock an ability unique only to them
• mori and fukuzawa discovered their own abilities and went on to teach other cultivators to help unlock their abilities
annnd that's all i got 😭😭 sorry, i wish i had more. if anyone wants to pick up after me, i'd be fine with that as long as i'm given credit and a link to the fic
Lol bit of a random ramble here about my one-sided ZoLu thoughts. Since everyone has been talking about Robin basically saying Zoro and Sanji are both Luffy’s Right Hands, it made me realize that (although the dynamic isn’t exactly the same) the three of them make me think of Xie Lian, Feng Xin and Mu Qing from TGCF.
😭 this is such an odd crossover so I don’t expect anyone to get it LOL.
Feng Xin’s loyalty and devotion to Xie Lian reminds me a lot of Zoro. Zoro’s strongest trait is his loyalty to the crew- to Luffy. He’s wholly devoted to his captain the same way FX was to his prince. The dynamic of super dedicated guy and his master with one sided feelings is my favorite always. I also loovee the headcanon that they develop feelings for the one they serve, but this love is always one sided. The devotion and loyalty that brought these feelings on are also the very reason they would never act on them.
Anyway, the root of this post was Sanji so I’m gonna talk about him and Mu Qing too. My favorite interpretation of the XianLe trio is: FX pining for XL and MQ being slightly aware of FX’s feelings and looking down at him for it. Though, I think Mu Qing would have a crush on Xie Lian too who wouldn’t? But to me, his feelings are not as strong as Feng Xin’s. The Monster trio is the same to me. Sanji with a little happy crush on Luffy (because.. who wouldn’t have a crush on Luffy) and Zoro pining for his captain and choosing not to do anything about it.
And of course, obligatory Zosan thoughts tacked here on the end: Something something angst something something Zoro is terrible with romance and feelings and gives up immediately blah blah then Zoro and Sanji find solace in each other.
AMAZZING how my headcanons were almost exactly the same for these two trios and I didn’t notice until now lol.
The Disappearance of Midoriya Izuku by town_without_heart
(graphic depictions of violence, major character death)
Fifteen years ago, a boy disappeared. Ripples in the water, the butterfly flaps its wings, and everything changes.
The notice is unremarkable, one face lost among a sea of lost faces. It is a yearbook photo of a young boy in his school uniform. His eyes are wide, shadowed by dark half-circles. His hair is green, wild and curly. He does not smile as he stares into the camera, and the somber expression makes him looks far older than his purported thirteen years. The text below the photo reads: HAVE YOU SEEN THIS BOY?
hero’s shadow by feelingstabby
Izuku doesn’t cry. He is a weapon, and weapons don’t weep.
He won’t cry until the battle, when he’s falling through the air, when it settles in just how real it is that he’s going to die, because yeah, All Might warned him this would happen, but there’s always been a part of Izuku that thought he’d live forever.
Even if he didn’t want to.
Or, how an underground hero helps an orphan Midoriya Izuku become something more than a lost vigilante.
(Rated T for dark themes and self-harm)
Take Care of Business by TheResurrectionist
Summary: Bruce has a conference call with Wayne Enterprises. Having it at the Manor was, in hindsight, a really shitty idea.
“I don’t have your phone!”
The two boys began trading hits, yelling at the top of their lungs. Bruce turned back to the webcam just as Damian leapt on top of Tim’s back, a high-pitched battle cry torn from his lips.
“Mr. Hodges,” he said cheerfully, unflinching as Tim threw Damian into the wet bar sink. “Have you had a chance to examine the chart I pointed out?”
Inspired by this viral video and Batwayneman’s post on tumblr.
The stars sing too by mme_anxious
Through the frozen mist in the tank, a figure lurches toward the glass, fingers curling in the frost. Dark hair frozen in a seal-slick, like oil in viscous fluid. A naked torso, deathly pale and riddled with those blue veins like tributaries. One hand wrenches the cryotank mouthpiece away from his face, and the man in the tank bares his teeth in a snarl as he looks down at Xie Lian, and then stops.
“Oh,” Xie Lian breathes.
The man in the tank is a shade elf.
“It is possible,” Hua Cheng began slowly, for once looking like a real person and not a god who had meticulously chosen a human suit in which to travel this petty and boring mortal world, “I may have lied a little, to my cohort. I may have told them, a few of them, not many, I was married.”
“Okay,” Xie Lian said, assuming he was talking about his special someone.
“To you.”
“WHAT.”
“WHAT.”
ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE @nicheappeal. Outline below the cut. It’s both massive and full of hand-wavy plot threads I never fully tightened up, so uh, enjoy?
UTENA/TGCF CROSSOVER FIC - “You and Not the State of You”
CHARACTER NOTES:
Xie Lian - Anthy - Xie Lian has been the Rose Bride for as long as he can remember. The fall of Xianle - the first batch of duelists to fight for his hand - ruined him and turned him vengeful for a time (Black Rose Arc-esque). By the point that Hua Cheng arrives at Xian Le Academy, Xie Lian is jaded and resigned to his fate as a symbol of the revolution, even though he believes no one can actually obtain the power that the castle is rumored to hold. Prior to the start of the story, Jun Wu gave Xie Lian the opportunity to try to find duelists he believed could actually achieve revolution. This lead him to Mu Qing and Feng Xin — when his life began falling apart and they left him, it reaffirmed Xie Lian’s original fear that he couldn’t rely on others to help him achieve revolution.
Hua Cheng - Utena - Part of Hua Cheng died with his parents, not from love, but from a listlessness of having no one to care for him and feeling like it was just one more unfortunate thing in a long list of misfortunes. A handsome prince found him sleeping in the spare coffin next to his parents and gave him a ring to remember him by. Hua Cheng winds up at Xian Le Academy after hearing rumors that the ring originally came from an elite group there, and winds up winning Xie Lian as the Rose Bride.
Bai Wuxiang/Jun Wu - Akio - Bai Wuxiang faked his death, which lead to Xie Lian’s fall from grace. He returned as the benevolent Jun Wu, who offered to help Xie Lian gain revenge on those who hurt him and firmly establish him as the Rose Bride. He’s manipulated Xie Lian into believing that being a tool for reaching eternity is the only way he can bring revolution to the world and end their suffering. Unbeknownst to Xie Lian, Jun Wu’s vengeful nature means that eternity will always be out of reach for them….
He Xuan - Juri - He Xuan is one of the oldest of the Rose duelists, and also one of the most lethal. Luckily, he seems to be only half-heartedly invested in the game. This belies his deeply resentful nature — he originally came to Xian Le chasing the man who lead his life to ruin, befriending his younger sibling in the process in order to get closer. When Shi Wudu visits, He Xuan duels him and kills him, to Shi Qingxuan’s dismay. This is the last time He Xuan ever duels.
Shi Qingxuan — Shi Qingxuan tries to duel once, as a way of admitting she cares for He Xuan. She’s a timid, frightened duelist who isn’t cut out for it. At the end of the duel Shi Qingxuan cries and admits she wanted to make things right for He Xuan… to give him the eternity he deserves. This finally makes He Xuan realize he’s holding on too much to things he can never get back while ignoring — and harming — someone important to him. Following this duel they confess to each other.
Mu Qing - One of Xie Lian’s former childhood friends who separated from Xie Lian before coming to Xian Le Academy. Mu Qing lives in regret for how he treated Xie Lian, but is too prideful to admit fault. He duels for Xie Lian’s hand because he believes it is a way to finally prove to Xie Lian and Feng Xin that he doesn’t need their pity, protection, or help. Instead he’s easily felled by Hua Cheng and admits to regretting hurting Xie Lian when they were younger.
Feng Xin - One of Xie Lian’s childhood best friends. Feng Xin was abandoned by Xie Lian after Mu Qing left, and never really Got Over It. He has a one-sided crush on Xie Lian that dies after their battle when he realizes he cannot stand up to Hua Cheng. Feng Xin tries to duel to protect Xie Lian from Hua Cheng and from life as a Rose Bride, leading Hua Cheng to question why Xie Lian allows himself to be part of the fight.
Ling Wen - Seems to be the only duelist in touch with Jun Wu directly, besides Xie Lian himself. Ling Wen seems to know far more about Jun Wu’s history than anyone else, but refuses to talk about it unless it’s to goad other duelists into showing their cards. She fights once for Xie Lian, searching for her own version of eternity where she can redeem herself for destroying her partner in an earlier duel. Qi Rong - The Saionji of the party. Literally will be around for the first chapter, gets his ass kicked, then gets kicked out for fighting. Will be so worth it.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Ch 1.The Sunlit Garden
Hua Cheng arrives at Xian Le Academy flanked by a friend, Yin Yu, who gives Hua Cheng an overview of the status quo at the school. Specifically he warns Hua Cheng to be careful with Xie Lian, as people who get close to him seem to always wind up with horrible things happening to them.
He sees Xie Lian being abused by Qi Rong and immediately recognizes him as the boy who helped him when he was younger and mourning the death of his mother in a church. Absolutely no indication Xie Lian recognizes him.
Hua Cheng challenges Qi Rong for Xie Lian, accidentally causing a duel.
Hua Cheng wins. Xie Lian shows up at his room the next day and declares himself Hua Cheng’s bride.
This is literally just Utena episode 1 reskinned
Ch 2.The Rose Bride
Hua Cheng questions Xie Lian on what it means to be a Rose Bride. Xie Lian seems almost sad at how naive Hua Cheng is about how things work at Xian Le, but loops back around to, “This is how it is, and it isn’t so bad. I’m protecting something important and ensuring only the most worthy gets it.”
Xie Lian says he has no clue what the power is. Whether or not you believe him is up to the audience.
They briefly see Xie Lian’s former friends, Feng Xin and Mu Qing, who react super weird to him. Hua Cheng instantly dislikes them and they dislike him, trying to warn Xie Lian against getting involved with Hua Cheng. Neither of them have duelist rings by this point.
Ch 3.
He Xuan approaches Hua Cheng and talks to him about the Rose Bride battles. He is more forthcoming than the others about his motivation (“If we fight, it isn’t because I have an issue with you”) and says that Hua Cheng has gotten roped into a dangerous game. He alludes to the End of the World and the periodic influx of new duelists, signaling Hua Cheng to be careful.
Hua Cheng tries to spend more time with Xie Lian outside of battling, but is shocked when Feng Xin approaches and challenges him. Feng Xin says he blames the duels on losing Xie Lian’s friendship, and hopes that by beating Hua Cheng he can free Xie Lian from the duels.
Xie Lian tells Hua Cheng that, while it’s a sweet thought, it’s also flawed - Xie Lian will just change hands as he has many times before, and he doesn’t want Feng Xin to get involved in the duels on his behalf.
Feng Xin duels admirably but ultimately falls. Xie Lian is a silent observer to the fight, but then quietly apologizes to Feng Xin when he loses. He apologizes for leaving him, but emphasizes that Feng Xin knew he couldn’t stay.
Chapter 4
Mu Qing is pissed about Feng Xin’s loss, because he thought that’d open up the opportunity for him to get closer to Xie Lian again too. Ling Wen, another duelist, encourages him to fight for Xie Lian and prove how he’s grown in the years since they separated and gives him a duelist ring.
Mu Qing FIGHT. Hua Cheng is so tired of these two.
Lots of flashbacks of Mu Qing feeling left behind, ignored, and belittled. Trying to get Xie Lian’s attention but failing when Xie Lian has to answer to his duties as the Rose Bride. He fights so aggressively he doesn’t even realize his flower is cut until he spears Hua Cheng’s, only to look down and notice his is already missing.
He cries, infuriated, and walks away without another word to Xie Lian, who looks visibly pained and upset.
Chapter 5
OH BOY HERE WE GO TIME TO CRY.
He Xuan introduces Shi Qingxuan, a non-duelist. Hua Cheng is immediately suspicious of why He Xuan is friends with her because his behavior is cold and aloof.
He Xuan admits his history with the Shi brothers — Shi Wudu sabotaged his family’s business, putting them in loads of debt and essentially sending his parents to an early grave. His girlfriend passed away suddenly after that. He Xuan carried his parent’s debt and ultimately wound up at Xian Le as a transfer to chase down Shi Wudu, and wound up getting close to Shi Qingxuan in an attempt to reach Shi Wudu.
He Xuan absolutely will never admit that SQX is anything more than a pawn but Hua Cheng absolutely sees the way he looks at her because this is my fic and beefleaf is canon in every universe I write.
Shi Qingxuan immediately hits it off with Xie Lian, who seems thrown off at the idea of a non-duelist actually wanting to talk to him. Shi Qingxuan says she doesn’t believe any of the rumors about Xie Lian being bad luck.
When Hua Cheng asks Xie Lian later what he thinks about He Xuan’s revenge plot, Xie Lian says some super cagey stuff about how unfulfilling revenge always is.
Chapter 6
He Xuan fights for Xie Lian. He hopes the revolutionary power will restore his status, allowing him to crush Shi Wudu under his heel.
During the fight it becomes obvious that He Xuan doesn’t actually wish ill on Shi Qingxuan, but is so caught up in his revenge fantasies that he cannot admit how much he cares for her except in a moment of weakness in losing the duel.
Xie Lian comments on how wrapped up people get in their perceptions of the situations they’re in rather than the reality of it all.
Chapter 7
Ling Wen approaches as a final duelist of the main arc, seeming detached from the idea of owning the Rose Bride and solely is focused on redeeming herself for a past duel.
Hua Cheng starts to learn how far back Xie Lian’s existence as Rose Bride goes, and begins to suspect Xie Lian was already the Rose Bride when Hua Cheng met him as a kid.
Chapter 8
A new set of rings are sent out - Shi Qingxuan, Yin Yu, Lang Qingqiu, and Shi Wudu
First up Lang Qingqiu because god I literally paid zero attention to his chapters and would really just like to speed past him.
Chapter 9
Yin Yu challenges him next, wanting to redeem himself for hurting Quan Yizhen. Hua Cheng is disappointed in him for choosing to fight when Hua Cheng has been telling him about Xie Lian and his efforts to keep him safe from being used.
Yin Yu reconciles with Quan Yizhen after the fight
Chapter 10
First half of Black Water arc meets Juri’s arc aka “Sadie Cries for Days” arc.
Shi Wudu shows up, is a jerk, and challenges Hua Cheng because he believes his brother is more fit to be the Rose Bride than Xie Lian.
(And yeah he says brother bc casual transmisogyny, hate that. #WeHateShiWuduHere)
He Xuan steps in and demands Shi Wudu fights him instead, saying he believes he’d be a better duelist for Shi Qingxuan. Shi Wudu absolutely takes the bait even as Shi Qingxuan is yelling at them both to fucking stop it and she doesn’t even want to be roped into this.
Hua Cheng and Xie Lian show up to watch because why not, and Xie Lian is the actual Rose Bride and can they even get into the duelist arena without him? Hell no.
He Xuan takes Shi Wudu down, reveals he knows Shi Wudu sabotaged his family, Shi Qingxuan tries to defend him. He Xuan is heartbroken listening to Shi Qingxuan defend him and feels like he’s been truly betrayed. He kills Shi Wudu in cold blood while Shi Qingxuan watches.
Chapter 11
Shi Qingxuan is Not Okay(™) after that last chapter.
She desperately wants to make things better, because she feels like its her fault his brother died. She wasn’t repentant enough to He Xuan. She begs He Xuan to be her Rose Bride so they can defeat Xie Lian/Hua Cheng and take eternity for themselves, and maybe finally fix the harm Shi Wudu caused.
But Shi Qingxuan isn’t cut out for fighting. She almost goes down to Hua Cheng until He Xuan gets between them, covering Shi Qingxuan. He admits that he never wanted Shi Qingxuan to bear the burden of what his brother did. He only wanted Shi Qingxuan to acknowledge He Xuan’s suffering. The flower wilts between them as they embrace.
Shi Qingxuan still isn’t over the whole “you killed my brother” thing but they’re working on it.
Chapter 12
Jun Wu reveals himself to Hua Cheng when they move into his penthouse for the following semester because Xie Lian is his [checks hand] brother? Distant cousin? Whatever lie he says to keep Xie Lian close.
Xie Lian starts opening up a little more to Hua Cheng. They kiss, finally. Xie Lian pretends it never happened the next day, to Hua Cheng’s insanity.
Chapter 13
Xie Lian reconciles with Feng Xin and Mu Qing, who both cast off their duelist rings rather than fight again. Learning about Shi Wudu shook them.
Yin Yu warns that it feels like something is coming. Hua Cheng has successfully held onto the Rose Bride for several months — there’s no way that eternity isn’t close to his grasp.
Hua Cheng admits he isn’t sure he wants eternity if Xie Lian has to remain as the Rose Bride. Xie Lian doesn’t understand why Hua Cheng cares, and Hua Cheng admits he loves him and Xie Lian deserves better.
Xie Lian starts to think maybe he does. :cry-emoji:
Chapter 14
Jun Wu is not happy about the developments in the previous chapter and Hua Cheng totally sees them together. That’s it that’s the chapter. Everyone can collectively puke now.
Oh also a final letter arrives from End of the World challenging Hua Cheng to a last duel.
Chapter 15
Jun Wu reveals himself as End of the World, admits the dueling game is his design. Find someone strong enough to reach the castle where eternity lies and meet them there, then steal it from them.
Gets to relive Xie Lian’s backstory. Hello 1000 swords.
Hua Cheng sees Xie Lian’s coffin and goes to save him. Really this is just. The last episode of Utena but adapted.
Chapter 16
Xie Lian gathers his things and goes to join Feng Xin and Mu Qing to leave the academy
Jun Wu tries one last time to stop him, and Xie Lian tells him in no uncertain terms that his plan has failed for the last time, and Xie Lian will no longer be used by him. There are more important things than eternity, and if people wish to fight for it so be it — Xie Lian will not be a stepping stone to get there anymore.
In the car Xie Lian reads a postcard implied to be from Hua Cheng, telling him that he’s waiting for Xie Lian to come join him. Feng Xin and Mu Qing speed off as Xie Lian contemplates all the things he’ll tell Hua Cheng once they’re reunited.
🌎🚲 Mid-year Reflection on my 2022 Reading Journey
🌃 tagged by @thecasualbookreviewer; It might be titled a little differently than what you tagged me in. A freak-out reminds me too much of cram and grind culture. I read for fun and enjoyment, not to tick the little boxes. As cliche as it is, it's all about the journey and not the destination. It's about the acquisition of brain worms of which I have farmed many this year.
📚Amount of books you’ve read so far
Please hold I need to actually go count because I haven't in awhile. I'm back it's 43.
📚Best book you’ve read so far in 2022
This is such a difficult question. There were so many good books that I read this year. I feel like I have favorites in different categories like this is an awards ceremony. fffs. Overall, I'm going to go with Scum Villain because it's been just a general good source of brain worms this year. The bees have ate well over that book. If you want to send me fake categories and ask based on that, always game. 📚Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022
I mean. I've read concurrent sequels (books published in multiple volumes) but I don't count those. Because they're all one story told in multiple parts. As for Sequel sequels... I know absolutely nothing is going to top Husband Materials. Even though I haven't read it yet. LOL.
📚New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
I'd like to read I kissed Sarah Wheeler by Casey Mcquistion because it's her junior novel. I'd like to see how it differentiates between the two others before. I haven't gotten to the Fae Keeper duology yet and that's on my list really high. As well as like. Heaven Official's Blessing III which I haven't gotten around to because I'm not ready to hurt quite yet this week. 📚Most anticipated release for the second half of the year 2ha on my birthday. Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn. Aiden Thomas (Cemetary boys) has a new duology starting in September. Golden Terrace in November. Husband Materials on Tuesday. uhhh. Mushroom II in late august even though my physical got delayed until September. So I'll have to get an ebook if I want to read it. So MANY. Glitterland's re-release in Jan. kdfdffkf 📚Favorite new author (debut or new to you)
well, this year it has really been Alexis Hall. My goal is to be done with all of his books by the end of 2022 so I can eagerly await the: *goes to his website to count* 6 books he's got scheduled for 2023?? man is prolific and I am jealous.
also I fell in love with S.A. Cosby in the same way as I did David Heska Wanbli Weidan this year. I believe DHWW has more books coming out soonish. Also excited for those. 📚Biggest surprise Little Mushroom still holds the biggest shocker for me this year. Because I AM SALTY ABOUT IT AND I WILL NOT BE SILENCED. 📚Book that made you happy
SVSSS, Dark Rise by C.S. Pacat, One Last Stop, A lady for a Duke, Pansies. These are all frequent brain worm topics on nights where my brain bees won't be quiet and let me sleep.
📚Newest fictional crush/newest favorite character:
aro ace here. I don't really do crushes. I just have a lot of fictional children. Newest fictional child is Luo Binghe and Xie Lian. As well as maybe Violet from Dark Rise. Luo Binghe: The protagonist who deserved none of his bullshit ever despite some of the horrible things he did. Did not deserve the absolute trashing the plot gave him in Volume 3.
Xie Lian: Local Tired Grandpa with a traumatic past just wants to collect his trash in peace, and both divine realms have decided he will not do that. More news at 11. Violet: Local mixed girl gets harassed by the plot. Absolutely doesn't deserve it. You will be hearing from my unethical treatment of fictional characters lawyer. this is a joke I swear to god.
📚Book that made you cry:
Honey Girl got me GOOD during Grace Porter's mental breakdown. Been there grace. Been there so hard girlie.
Most recently I was in HYSTERICS over This Way Out. Full on ugly inconsolable crying for like 10 minutes over. well. His family is conservative and Muslim, they reject his gay marriage. But what's worse is his fiancee's family is very white and doesn't understand the stigma and the culture. and they just. so neatly wrap up Amar's family into a judgemental little package. and he's just like. "nope they may be assholes but they are my family and they deserve respect because despite THEIR actions I still LOVE them because they are worthy of LOVE." and it just made me grapple with a lot of complicated feelings I have revolving around my own queerness and family issues. Just a very strong gut punch of complications.
📚Most beautiful book you’ve bought or received this year so far:
have you seen Heaven Official's Blessing's Cover art?? especially for volume three??? fdskfsdf or like. Pale Moon Reflected in the Water?? sdlkjff
📚Book you need to read by the end of the year: KD Edward's Tarot Sequence Books The rest of the Alexis Hall booksets. These are the only books that I am going to REQUIRE myself to finish. Otherwise I'm getting FUNKY with it. No rules.
tagging: free tag from me here. If you want a specific @ I will certainly edit you in.
A ceremony starts~~
Hua cheng: *bowing to A-Yao, patriotically ~ being a hulijing citizen~
Yao: *signaling his attendants to bring something on a platter.
Yao: you're the image of hulijings, as well as my empire.
As an ambassador you must maintain the peace and preserve healthy bonds between the hulijings, Kitsunes and Gumihos. And for the mortals and cultivators, you must promote our culture and represent the empire.
Between the fox spirits, you must guard them and inforce a healthy flow of cultural identity.
Do you accept?
Hua cheng; yes Huangdi..
Yao: you may stand.
Drop all formalities.
*fastens a fox shaped brooch on him* this is your signature, and identity as the empire's ambassador.
Hua cheng: *bow* thank you, Huangdi. I'm grateful!
Yao: I wish you goodluck.
Also I'm very pleased to have such a notorious member as yourself, in my empire.
~
Xue yang: congrats bro. Here's a bottle of liquor.
Hua cheng: thanks dude.
Treat Yao huangdi well. He's brilliant.
Xue yang: obviously. My hot boss is my ride or die.
Hua cheng: lol did you just call him hot?!
Xue yang: yes.
Mo xuanyu: we're his simps after all.
Hua cheng: well he is gorgeous but I think it's improper to have a crush on your Huangdi. And besides, I only have eyes for my gege.
I'm happy being his hubby and a hulijing citizen.
Mo xuanyu: that's so sweet.
Hua cheng: you guys want to come over for dinner?
Su she: who's cooking?
Hua cheng: gege. My husband.
Mo xuanyu: oh (yikes].
Xue yang: can't be worst than Lan lips cooking! Am I right.
Hua cheng: nah gege is the best cook.
Su she: Lan lips and xie lian should have a cook off.
Hua cheng: gege will win, I'm sure.
Team dimple: we agree!
Hua cheng: what do you think, Huangdi?
Yao: I think they may tie.
Hua cheng: we'll see.
Su she: um, Hua cheng, would you do me a favour?
Hua cheng: what do you need?
Su she: *pulls him aside* can you sculpt a 1 foot Yao huangdi statute for me? Standing with his nine tails and hensheng or a fan?
You see i have a statue. But I need another for my shrine.
Hua cheng: I can relate dude, cuz I have a shrine of my own. Of xie lian
I never sculpted someone who's not gege though. Anyways I'll see what I can do.
Su she: thanks.
And I'll pay you too.
$5000 taels.
Hua cheng: sounds like a plan.
But you know, i don't do things for money.
Su she: take it.
I insist.
Hua cheng: ok dude. Thanks.
Are you all up for Ghost City?
Huangdi?
Yao: sure, ambassador Cheng. Thanks for the invite.
Xue yang: yea bro!
~
Next day,
Team D and A-Yao were getting ready to leave for Ghost City.
A-Yao wore golden robes as always, as well as a gold and red Kitsune mask
Instead of his hat, he wore his Huangdi's guan and two large peony hairpins next to it.
Minshan wore his Misty spell mask, mask, and both xue yang and Mo xuanyu wore black cat eyed masks.
All to into the Ghost City aesthetics.
(Basically mxy and sms used their chenqing Ling masks)
Xue yang: supermodel, you're looking really gorgeous. Can I see your dimple?
Yao: *takes off mask*
Xue yang: *kisses* so generous of Yao huangdi.
Mo xuanyu: Yao gege is just waw!
Yao: thank you very much, darlings.
Su she: you look so glamorous.
Yao: Ah, Shanshan. You do too. *puts back on his mask*
Su she: with this ugly mask? Haha.
Yao: it reflects your strength and skill.
And I love it.
Su she: awww. I appreciate your opinion, Huangdi.
By the way, the teleportation talismans are ready.
Yao: excellent.
Hua cheng: *barging in* sorry I'm late!! Yao huangdi! *panting*
Yao: greetings Hua cheng. Weren't we supposed to meet you there. Why did you come in a hurry.
Hua cheng: I forgot all about butcher Zhu.
He might fight you guys thinking you're trespassers or a threat. The guy hates outsiders.
And he had a hot temper.
Mo xuanyu: ohhhh, like dage.
Su she: *laughing*
Hua cheng: Huangdi's hot headed sworn brother?
Team d: that's the one!
Yao: lol.
Yao: I understand you, ambassador Cheng. He must be loyal to you.
Hua cheng: yea we're tight.
So if I pick you up here, then he'll know that you're my guests.
Yao: delightful then. Thank you for escorting us. You're too kind.
Xue yang: would Mr. Zhu like two jars of severed tongues?
He just has to pay me a suppliers price.
Hua cheng: well he sells human meat, so I guess he'll be interested.
What's your suppliers price?.
Xue yang: $250.
Or just 15% of the profit. I don't care. Jiggy is taking care of me.
Hua cheng: lol. Well talk to him then.
Xue yang: yea.
Su she: *activates his talismans*
~
Ghost City 📍🧧.
They appeared among the magnificent city, doused in red and alive with the unalive. Ghost City was like a large nighless fair or a market illuminated by red lanterns and fire. Despite being populated by various ghosts, spirits and a few yokai, the city had their own gambler's den.
Hua cheng: how's the city?
Yao: breathtaking! Just breathtaking.
I love all the red.
Mo xuanyu: your Ghost subjects looks so alive.
Hua cheng: haha! You think?!
Su she: they're just living life, buying and selling things, and going their way.
Hua cheng: yea. Unbothered right?
Xue yang I'll ask~~ wait. Where is he?
Mo xuanyu: he was just here.
Shanshan.
Su she: look, I don't babysit gremlins.
Yao: *sighs* not again, lol.
Yin Yu: same, Su Zongzhu. I'm only occupied with serving my master, Hua Chengzhu.
Su she: I'm also devoted to huangdi.
Yin yu: we're so lucky to have such ideal people to serve.
Su she: right.
Do you? *blush* daydream about him?
Like how I do with Huangdi?
Yin yu: yes yes yes! All the time!
Su she: hmm.
So we see your lord and my lord are friends. We should be besties too.
Yin yu: I would love that!
Xue yang: *flirting with some demon ladies*
Xue yang: do you guys want to party with me?
You're really cute.
Ladies: *giggling*
Xue yang: you guys have to share me with the emperor of Hulijings by the way.
Hot guy like you in thr emperor's harem?
The hulijing emperor has some nice taste.
Xue yang: yea he has me and team dimple in a chokehold.
Xue yang: you know, I turned my enemy into a fierce corpse. Actually I have a whole army of fierce corpses.
Oh woww.
Xue yang; yea they worship me too.
But they love Jiggy too. Who doesn't like Jiggy.
Jiggy is really hot.
I can cook if you guys want.
Oh my goodness!
He can cook!!!
Yao: *in a feminine voice* oh tell me more na, yangyang.
Xue yang: well Jiggy is really sexy and~~ *turns around* Aahhhh! Jiggy, what?! Where did you get that voice from?!
It's kinda attractive tho.
Yao: stop fooling around. *hands him candy*
Xue yang: *hugs arm* Jiggy! Jiggy!
Demon ladies: *bowing* greetings fox spirit emperor.
And our Ghost king.
Yao: please discard your formalities.
Hua cheng: hey guys.
Was xue yang troubling you?
No my lord.
Hehehehehehe.
Xue yang: call me!
Hua cheng: my assistant, Yin yu will show you the butcher's place.
Xue yang: cool.
Yin Yu: right. Let's go, xue xiong.
Mo xuanyu: Hua cheng where's your hubby?
Hua cheng: making dinner back at Paradise Manor for us.
Mo xuanyu: hmm. More delicious than what Lan lips make.
Yao: that's so delightful. And your Paradise Manor must be splendid as well.
Hua cheng: of course.
It's always splendid.
~~
Paradise Manor 🧧.
*walking down the crimson hall*
Hua cheng: want to enjoy wine and coutesans after, Huangdi?
Yao: absolutely.
How can I reject a host's treat.
Hua cheng: great!
And you can use them to pleasure you if they want.
Yao: oh no no. I don't exploit them. I only admire their skill, and respect them.
Hua cheng: you're a very ideal Huangdi.
I'm also aware that exploiting is prohibited in your empire.
Yao: yes.
Hua cheng: they will devoutly perform for you, Huangdi.
~in the banquet hall~
*coutesans dancing*
Mo xuanyu: imagine if Lan lips belly dance.
Xue yang: ew.
Su she: to impress who?!
Not my Huangdi, I'm sure.
Yao: your courtesans are very talented. I commend you.
Xue yang: city never sleeps.
Hua cheng: mhm.
Yao:  should I gift them anything? To show my appreciation?
Hua cheng: you don't need to.
But they do like pretty outfits.
Yao: so be it then.
Hua cheng: gege!
Xie lian: *enters with some attendants* Sang Lang! Dinner is ready.
Hua cheng: mmmm smells nice. You're so perfect. *kisses*
Gege, Huangdi is here.
Yao: greetings Dianxia. *bow*
Xie lian: the hulijing Huangdi doesn't need to bow.
I should bow to you.
Yao: but you're a God after all.
Higher than Huangdi.
Xie lian: haha, don't make me feel shy.
After all, my husband is a fox spirit, hence he's your citizen.
If I show my respect, then it would make him happy.
Yao: he had built many temples and sculpted many statues in your honour.
Xie lian: *laughing* should we bow to each other then?
Yao: sounds like a plan.
Mo xuanyu: what an epic bowing loop.
Xue yang: they also sound almost the same*
(Mdzs Jin guangyao and tgcf Xie lian once shared the same voice actor** but it changed)
Mo xuanyu: yea, but Yao gege sounds more hot.
Anyways, greetings Dianxia. I'm mo xuanyu
Xie lian: nice to meet you!
Su she: and I'm Su Minshan.
Xue yang: I think you know me already. *wink*
Xie lian: yea the mischief maker.
Xue yang: you're right. I like chaos.
Xie lian: Yao Huangdi, how's Rusong?
Yao: he's doing great! Thanks for asking.
He was a part of the elite conference.
Xie lian: marvelous. Your Rusong is brilliant and well refined.
Yao: thank you.
Xie lian:  Yao huangdi, I made food.
*uncovers*
The meat looked like charcoal, the soup looked like seasoned water, the veggies were withering away, and the mushrooms looked as if it was growing another mushroom.
At least the rice came out presentable.
A but sticky but presentable.
Hua cheng: these are all making me so hungry.
Yao: delightful, Dianxia. Thank you.
Mo xuanyu: your food looks just like Zewu Jun's.
Xue yang: bro I'm starving.
Su she: thanks for dinner, Dianxia. But whats this bowl of dirt for?
Xie lian: *laughing* Su Minshan, that's not dirt! I tried to make baozi but it burnt a little.
Su she: ah. (Burnt a little?!
As questionable as this looks, I must eat.  For the sake of saving Huangdi's face.)
Xie lian: do eat. I made it with love. My food is maybe missing a little salt though.
If the pork look as if it's moving, just whack it with your hand.
Yao: s...sure.
Hua cheng: I love me some whack-a-pork. It's my favourite dish.
Xie lian: that's why I made it, Sang Lang.
Hua cheng: awww.
Xie lian: Yao Huangdi, I'm so happy that you made my hubby the protector and ambassador of Hulijings.
You're very sweet.
Yao: no problem.
Su she: *suffering from an upset stomach*
Mo xuanyu: *feeling drowsy* why is every thing spinning.
Xue yang: *slapping the porkchop* WHACK! hahhahahahahaha!!!
Hua cheng: *eating* Team d, are you ok?
Xie lian: my food isn't for the faint hearted. Are you enjoying, Yao Huangdi?
Yao: ah yes. Well xue yang's tongue tea built my gut.
Xie lian: lovely!
Yao: you're always so cheerful.
Xie lian: thank you!
By the way, Yin Yu had arranged a room for you four. *smile*
Yao: delightful. Thank you very much.
~~~
Later on, in their room.
Mo xuanyu: *lying in bed*
Su she: *vomiting*
Yao: *drinking medicine*
Xue yang: *lying on the floor* my ass is on fire.
Ay. Supermodel, how are you?
Yao: my stomach is in fact aching. But this concoction is soothing.
Xue yang: oh gosh.
Mo xuanyu: I still believe that he can cook better than Lan lips.
Xue yang: yea I agree.
Su she: of course he can.

tgcf fic recs - hua cheng + he xuan as bffs
comes with the territory - maely1234
To hide from Hua Cheng in his own territory...he hates to admit it, but that takes serious ability. Hua Cheng narrows his eyes. “So?” “Help me capture the Earth Master,” the ghost offers, hands gesturing around him. “And every piece of information I gain in the heavens will be yours as well.” He meets the ghost’s eyes. “What’s your name?” The ghost smiles, spindly sharp teeth lining their jaw. “He Xuan.” “Well then, He Xuan. You have yourself a deal.”   Or: 2 ghost kings, Hua Cheng and He Xuan, and a story of how they met, worked, and changed together, each striving towards their dying wish.
it's not exactly sweet, but it's a good look at how hua cheng and he xuan met, how their relationship develops, and how they develop as people (ghosts) too. it's not finished, but what's there is good.
the ghost king's gifts - beesinspades
Hua Cheng stands before an exquisite painting. Two fish skeletons swim in balance, glistening with a golden light in the darkness. Painting this, Hua Cheng had. . . fun, playing with colours and lighting. He grimaces at the realization that he’s actually done something for Black Water and enjoyed it. Or, Hua Cheng is invited to find inspiration beyond that of his beloved.
half the world away - moonsteps
“Hypothetically speaking,” says Xie Lian, “what would you do if someone—not me, of course—told you that they have feelings for San La—your roommate? Even though they live halfway across the world and it will probably never happen and—” “This is an incredibly specific hypothetical situation,” says He Xuan through a mouthful of his dinner. (Or: Xie Lian falls in love with his best friend's roommate. This wouldn't be a problem if they didn't live on opposite ends of the world.)
this is absolutely adorable and full of crack. we get to see a he xuan + xie lian friendship, which i feel is such an underrated ff pairing that's always wholesome and cute. also, we get to see hualian + a love-hate (mostly hate) friendship between hua cheng and he xuan.
happy birthday bestie by silverwiings
Dear Black Water Submerging Boats, He Xuan, You are formally invited to Hua Cheng’s birthday party. Please bring a present (although I’ll be shocked if you even bring yourself). It will be held this Saturday in Puqi Shrine. Sincerely your best and only friend, Hua Cheng Or: He Xuan reluctantly attends Hua Cheng’s birthday party and surprisingly has a good time.
domestic hualian, a solid friendship between hc and hx, and post-canon feels. it's a soft way of acknowledging their relationship post-ending and while it's sad that sqx doesn't make an appearance, sqx is talked about.
act casual - fullmetalpotterhead
In which Hua Cheng wishes he was in his good friend and long time crush’s league, Xie Lian wishes his best friend would ask him out, and He Xuan desperately wishes he wasn’t involved in their pseudo-dates.
TOO CUTE. hua cheng dragging he xuan out as an excuse to meet dianxia? check. hua cheng simping over how strong xie lian is? check. xie lian kinda sorta showing off at the gym? check check and check.

Modern AU where HC gets into a major accident while riding his motorcycle, sending him into a year-long coma. When he wakes up, he can’t seem to remember the past five years of his life. There are so many unfamiliar faces in his hospital room, though the one HC can pinpoint is the upperclassmen he crushed on all through university, XL, who sits beside his bed looking incredibly relieved.
“I knew you would pull through. I just knew it. My San Lang is so strong,” XL says happily, throwing his arms around HC’s shoulders. HC has about a hundred questions running through his mind, including the nickname that HC has never told anyone to call him, but the fact that XL is hugging him right now impedes all trains of thought.
A pair of other familiar faces barge into the room. HC’s face immediately darkens.
“Don’t just sit there, idiot. Hug your husband back,” FX barks.
“It’s not like you nearly gave him a heart attack when the news of your accident reached him,” MQ snarkily adds.
HC abruptly stiffens in XL’s hold.
H-husband? With XL?
When had they even begun dating?
“S-San Lang?” XL asks, pulling away when HC doesn’t return the hug nor the enthusiasm of seeing his husband. “I’m sorry, did I hurt you? I was just super excited that you woke up.”
HC stares wordlessly into XL’s kind eyes, holding the same warmth they did when HC happened to catch a glance at him on campus.
“Does San Lang want something to eat? The place with your favorite ramen is just down the corner. I can pick some up and bring it back here,” XL suggests with a hopeful expression.
HC’s eyebrows furrow. No matter how hard he tries, he doesn’t remember the place XL is talking about. He doesn’t remember how he and XL somehow got to be partners—where had the rest of HC’s college career gone? HC barely even remembers his accident in the first place. It was no doubt incredibly traumatic.
What was his last thought before everything went black?
Ah, a severe throbbing sensation pummels HC’s brain. It hurts. It hurts too much to think, to remember. He still hasn’t answered XL, who now looks even more concerned.
“Baobei?”
The single term of endearment coming out of XL’s mouth makes HC jerk away, out of XL’s reach. The flash of hurt flickering on the older man’s face doesn’t go unnoticed. HC’s gut churns uncomfortably in the suffocating room.
“I’m sorry. I-I don’t know what’s going on right now,” HC mutters.
“What d-do you mean?” XL shakily asks, though he can probably already guess the answer. “San Lang?”
“I’m not your San Lang,” HC chokes out. Tears openly cascade down XL’s cheeks. HC kicks himself for making such a gentle person in his life cry.
HC doesn’t know who he is at the moment. But he also knows he isn’t worth the broken expression on XL’s face.
“I can’t remember anything after my junior year of university,” HC admits, frustration building up inside him. He feels pathetic in a way his present self with all his memories wouldn’t feel. HC mentallly screams at himself to recall just one thing, one moment among the blank void that has replaced his sense of self.
Murmurs spread across the room, making HC even more anxious. He cannot—for the life of him—fathom why so many people would show up to his hospital room, why so many people would care? For the first time since he reached adulthood, HC feels the urge to cry.
“We weren’t dating back then. And now I’m told that we’re husbands?” HC continues on in disbelief, heart clenching in his chest. “It’s…too much.”
XL wilts sadly in his seat.
“I’m sorry, Xie Lian. Maybe I’ll remember with time, but right now, I’m just…lost.”
No one utters a sound. It’s not their moment to intrude on, yet they stand in the room having expected to celebrate HC’s awakening. Instead, they linger with confusion and disbelief. HC from five years ago was essentially sitting in that hospital bed. And he didn’t remember anything about being together with XL.
XL bites his lower lip in contemplation. Over the years, XL has gotten to know HC in all of his moods and emotions. Despite his husband’s lost memories—which he still has a chance of recovering as he heals—XL can clearly see that HC is moments away from caving in on himself.
XL has made both himself and HC a promise to always be there for HC in times of need. It was in their vows, after all.
“Can I..?” XL gestures to HC’s pale, boney hand. With a sorrowful look, HC nods pitifully.
XL scoots closer to encapsulate HC’s hand in both of his own. He holds it delicately, interlocking his fingers between the gaps of his partner’s.
“It’s okay,” XL whispers. He squeezes HC’s hand lightly. HC’s own tears dampen his cheeks. XL can see how anguished his husband is for not remembering anything about them.
While XL is upset and disappointed, he’s also just glad that HC is alive and out of his coma. HC came back to him, this is all XL could ever ask for.
“Are you sure?” HC whispers back dejectedly.
XL’s heart constricts painfully. He missed his husband so much.
“More than sure. For now, focus on getting some rest, okay?” XL hesitated before asking, “Do you want me to be here when you wake up?”
HC weakly squeezes XL’s hands back. It’s an answer enough.
When HC’s eyes slip shut, exhausted from exerting so much energy after sleeping for a year, XL allows more tears to roll down his face. A breathless sob escapes his quivering lips, which he presses firmly against the back of HC’s hand.
“I missed you.”
