Shadows Leading Light (fic idea)

(Civilian!Sakura in warring states period.

I had wu zetian, china's only female emperor in mind while thinking of this dgshsj tbh I wanted it to be full of drama and politics but I'm good at neither so if I ever write this, drama and politics would be veeeeryy vague lol)

Shadows leading light (snippet)

'They say there's a woman, sitting behind beaded curtains, whispering decisions to the Senju clan leader in meetings.'

'They say that the Senju is a matriarchy.'

'They say she killed Butsuma, and played his son like a puppet how she did with the father.'

Consort, temptress, lover.

(Flowers grow thorns when left in the dark.)

(Or, Sakura is a simple civilian who is forced to claw her way into power the day she was coerced to marry the tyrannical Butsuma Senju.)

Inspired by the story of Wu Zetian. SenjuSaku, UchiSaku. Warring states period. Founders x Sakura.

Civilian!Sakura, maybe time travel?

Hashirama sneaks a glance at the woman standing next to his father, her face a blank mask as the proprietary hand around her waist tightens. Butsuma wears a smug, arrogant grin as he brushes his calloused hand along her dainty cheek. The woman does not react to his advances and hashirama finds it strange.

"Boys," says his father, and he and his brothers snap to attention. "This is Sakura, your new mother. Greet her with respect." the words are spoken clearly, yet it takes a few beats to actually sink in - and all Hashirama can feel is rage.

In all his 14 years of life, Hashirama has never felt this much hatred towards a woman. How dare she attempt to take the place of his mother. Eyes narrowed dangerously, he grits his teeth and executes a perfect, stiff bow, followed by his equally reluctant brothers, to the replacement of their precious mother.

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sakura-sama. Please take care of us." he says, clipped.

Sakura, as the woman is now known as, blinks in a daze, as if she didn't hear him, but bows back to them all the same. He bitterly notes how much shallower hers is than theirs.

"I will also be in your care," she replies, in a wispy, frail voice. Despite the heated glares sent her way, she's unfazed, lips set in a neutral line. She obediently follows as Butsuma leads her away, and Hashirama's glare follows her out of the room.

The scent of bloody earth lingers after her.

The meeting room is quiet. All its inhabitants, save for the clan leader, stare curiously at the beaded curtains behind the seat of the clan head. The beautiful jade and beryl beads tinkle and chime softly as gentle winds blow in through the windows, creating a peaceful sort of ambience.

How ironic, considering they are in a war room to discuss battle strategies.

"Ignore the woman," Butsuma booms as he crosses his arms over his chest, and his advisors quickly straighten up. "She has no input in the meeting. "

That turns out to be untrue, as a good hour into the meeting when they discuss suitable strategies, a delicate, pale hand reaches out from behind the curtains and softly caresses Butsuma's shoulder. He pauses, then looks at her, a set to his jaw indicating his displeasure. "What is it?" he asks impatiently.

The woman leans close from the curtains and he does the same. She murmurs into his ear, and a thoughtful expression dawns on his stern features. As soon as she's done relaying her thoughts, Butsuma sits heavily in his seat again, and his advisors peer suspiciously at the shadowed figure behind glittering beads.

"Change of plans," says the Senju head, pointing at a location on the map spread out on the table. He goes on to update their new strategy on their war with the Uchiha, and it is such an unconventional approach that one of the advisors cuts in hesitantly :

"My lord, the plan is sound, but how do we know we can trust that woman?"

"She'll know not to lie to me," answers the brunette with a chilling smile. "I have something precious of hers, and getting it back depends on her cooperation with the Senju."

From behind the curtains the woman stiffens visibly, and Butsuma chuckles outright.

Aaaaand that's it so far. It will sort of loosely follow how wu zetian managed to usurp control of her husband's empire, but in this case how sakura manages to be the one who pulls the strings behind every decision the clan makes. And ending up ruling the clan lol. If you know about wu zetian you'll know how her relationship with her 'stepson' progresses heheheee. I'm gonna throw in Tobi and the Uchiha brothers too because that is what we do in this house y'all, maybe add in Mito somewhere as well?
