Morning Sex - Ja’far x Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: Smut
➽──────────────❥
6:29AM
“Ja’far..” You whispered before rolling to see your lover’s eyes slowly open. His pitch black eyes with the sun just slightly slipping through the window.
“Hm?” He says huskily. He turns over to look at the time, “It’s 6:29.” He says before getting up to rub his eyes. “Go back to bed its early.” “But I need you.” You whine before sitting up too.
He quickly whips his head towards you “What do you mean you need me..” He mutters out while faintly blushing. You start to crawl over to him the bed creaking slightly.
You sit on his lap and start drawing circles on his chest. “I need you badly..” You say while tilting your head down a bit. His blush becomes more noticeable. “Is that’s so..” He says before passionately kissing you. The kiss becoming more heated and sloppy with every second passing by.
You easily pin him down breaking the kiss and moving towards his neck. You softly suck his neck. He gently groans to this making you more motivated. The sound of his moans fill the room. You were about to undress him right when he decided to top.
He looks at you with his lust filled eyes basically drooling to see your body. He begins to quickly take off your shirt leaving you bare chested. Attacking your breast with no hesitation.
You get caught off guard and behind to clench your jaw. “Ja’far.. slow-down..” You said in between moans. Starting to helplessly rub your thighs together in hope of some friction between your thighs.
He gladly takes both of your breast in each hand and start massaging them. Then going on to lick and suck them. He has no problem leaving hickeys all over your breast.
He continues to put his knee between your thighs while smirking slightly. He gets up to take off his top revealing his ghostly white skin and his flat stomach. Then quickly rips off your pants and panties throwing them to the side of the room.
Reaching for over to the nightstand, he opens a drawer to fetch a condom for the two of you. You quickly begin to blush and look away. “Why are you looking away? You were the one begging for this” He says with a low and seductive tone. “Don’t get all shy on me..” Cooing in your ear, “I’m already so hard for you this early in the morning..”
“Now beg for my cock.” “...” You replied to this with silence looking away from him. “Please fuck me…” You whispered as you watched him take off his pants and slowly put the condom on. “I thought I said beg.” You let out a needy moan and say “Please… Ja’far…” He chuckled in amusement and swiftly stuffs it in making you gasp in pure shock.
The pain starts to lessen more and more when he began to thrust in and out. You couldn’t believe this man had you such a mess. He was cute not the type you’d think would be fucking you at 6 A.M but god did you love it.
His thrusts were perfect. He had the perfect rhythm and at this rate you could feel yourself coming close. You could also tell he was getting close to by the way he started thrusting sloppily. “Ja’far….” You said while letting out a breathy moan. Ja’far quickly grabs your hips and does one final thrust. You throw your head back in pure bliss becoming a moaning mess.
The ghostly pale man pulls out breathless sliding the condom off and throwing it into the trash. He sighs from exhaustion and lays on top of you lazily. “You’re so hot…” Ja’far whispers into your ear while you’re still panting.
Without replying you just grab him and cuddle him. “I love you so much..” You whisper in his ear before slowly drifting off to sleep. With that, he kisses you once more before also falling asleep.

I’ll never get over how Twisted is so good at setting something up comedically and then using it dramatically. The Sultan’s… ah, infertility problem is the obvious example, but there are more.
Like how the people of the kingdom hate Ja’far and blame him for all their troubles despite him being nothing but polite and affable and having devoted his life to helping them. This is presented as funny, with the contrast between his unfailing courtesy and the sheer intensity and illogicality of their vitriol, from the very first moments of the show: “And all the grateful citizens will say to me -” (to a cheerful tune echoing “Belle”) “Fuck you!” “Fuck you!” etc..
But then we see him prepared to destroy whatever’s left of his reputation beyond repair in order to rise up from his lowest point and save everyone. He asks himself with tears in his eyes, “Who cares if no one will ever mourn me?” And we have to process that he has no friends; hasn’t for possibly well over a decade; has instead been relentlessly bullied and slandered for years on end; and is completely resigned to dying alone, forever condemned for crimes he didn’t commit and not even posthumously receiving any of the gratitude, respect or love he deserves. Which really isn’t funny at all. It’s just tragic. And to further taint those earlier scenes, the flashback sequence has revealed that he used to be popular because of his compassion and sense of justice, and calling everyone he meets “friend” is a now-incongruous holdover from that happier time.
Or Aladdin being a serial sexual predator of teenagers. His extreme libido and misogyny are established early on. We learn that he has sexual relationships with much younger women and girls very frequently, manipulating and isolating them, viewing them as disposable objects for his own pleasure and callously abandoning them once he’s satisfied. Yet despite how inherently horrifying that is, he’s so stupidly overconfident, shamelessly sleazy and simply fun to watch that he’s overall a lighthearted villain for a predominantly lighthearted show. It’s impossible to take sexual advances like “Hey babe, it’s such a beautiful night - take off your clothes” seriously. From admonishments (“‘Cause you stole my daughter’s hymen”) to warnings (“A song is a dick in sheep’s clothing!”), this subject is a source of far more comedy than drama on the whole.
But then he says coldly, “I’m a thief; I take what I want” and restrains the sixteen-year-old Princess by force holding a knife. That’s a rape threat. This is a serial rapist. Holy shit, I’ve been laughing at a serial rapist seducing a child.
And of course, there’s “Why did my Mummy have to die?” “Mine too!” “Mine too!” “Mine too!” “Mine too!” “Mine too!” as a crack at Disney’s trend of dead parents, followed by the genuinely emotional revelation that one of the main characters, a parody Disney princess, has a dead mother.
You know? I just think it’s cool, and a very good way to balance and progress the tone. There isn’t a clear delineation between funny stuff and serious stuff, just different lenses on the same ideas, characters and themes. Some stories have designated comic relief characters that disappear or take a backseat for dramatic moments, but in Starkid shows everyone can be comic and dramatic when it’s appropriate.

🤩 Who is someone in your rpc that you admire?
unconventional asks meme / accepting
Tumblr media
Bruv sit down cause this is going to be a list. The people below are the ones I admire, or WELL some of the ones because this could go for a bit. And note these are in no particular order, so the first doesn’t mean the best and the last doesn’t mean the least. I love all these peeps and admire ‘em equally.
We startin’ with my main man Ethan at @hopefromadoomedtimeline . I wake up in the morning and hope my portrayals are half that good and that ain’t even glazin him. Go on his blog and see it for yourself, we love DBZ but let’s not lie, damn show has more holes in it that spongebob and my boy here has made wonderful HCs to compensate. Really putting that unique spin on the dude.
The writer that brings me angst and I always come for more, my homie Koko @kiealer . Everytime when she be showing me her wonderful art I feel that spark that I used to have when I was young to pick up a paper and go draw somethin’ but..nah the skill ain’t there anymore but she does inspire me to do better at my manga coloring.
Homie here that’s just pure chaos on my list, it’s my homegril T @acoldsovereign . She does bring me the angst too but usually it’s just covered with a lot of bullshit moments, add a little comedy into the mix. She’s soo great with her writing and it inspires me to do better. Really all I need to do is get better at bein descriptive AND not to mention my grammar.
It wouldn’t really be my blog if I’m not saying Tazzy’s @dragvnsovl praises. The fact that this homie o’ mine writes RADITZ, NAPPA AND WHO? The OG GOAT YAMCHA, that inspired me to throw Krillin onto my multi. Always loved him and really he just..that’s my guy and she really do doing great with her muses too that I hope I can do the same for my multi..when I’m not too lazy.
These are my homies that always gimme a little inspiration everyday. But you think I was done??! There's @swordsxandxsakuras  who took an already known muse and said fuck it, let’s go canon divergent with this bih and basically turned Nezuko in somethin’ that works for her. The bravery and strength t’ do that on a public space like Tumblr? Nah i’d be caught lacking. Then there’s @eternalbxtterfly Snow who’s given me Elise’ smile for years now. What little time my muse gets to spend with @aceparagon  muse is time well spent too, and I’m really biased when it comes to Bishamon faces. Don’t get me started on my girl Rena’s muse. @zorkaya Has been inspiring your boy with his villain play because she does write a good villain as well.
You think I was finna finish this segment without mentioning  my snom sis @universestreasures . Girl here has inspired me when it came to the romance genre. I still feel like it’s my weakest genre but I can tell you she’s helped me feel a little more confident in starting ships now. Oh can’t forget about Chai @infintasmal  . Aspire me to be a better Sinbad because she was THE PERF Ja’far for him. My homie Meli @crimsontwins  back when I REALLY was deep into Genshin lore, inspiring me to learn MORE and more about the game in order to make our roleplay that much nicer. I think I might have gotten to half of my homies but man, imma have to put a long post warning.

i’ve been in a starkid mood so: here’s my personal ranking of the team starkid shows so far before i see nerdy prudes must die, because… why not? (my criteria depends on things like writing just as much as it depends on arbitrary things like what random character/song i imprinted on as a teen.)
anyway here is the list:
1. a very potter musical (it just can’t get better than this - even in today’s climate as they truly made a crackhead out of every one of joanne’s characters and plots and since she had nothing to do with the actual production so… fuck her)
2. the guy who didn’t like musicals (this one is, in my opinion, maybe the strongest show writing-wise they’ve done so far)
3. starship (this one was my absolute favorite when i was a teenager and it still has a special place in my heart - i love a good sci-fi trope plus taz as a character and a couple of the songs just hit so right for me)
4. the trail to oregon (i’m not even sure why but this one just works so well for me; 6 cast members, minimal set, nuclear family at the center of it and it’s just… so fucking funny)
5. a very potter sequel (nothing can quite reach the level of hilarity of the first avpm but this one is not all that far off)
6. firebringer (this has, in my opinion, some of the funniest writing; every one liner seems to hit right and that deserves props from me - plus several of the songs are good even out of context)
7. a very potter senior year (out of the trilogy it’s the most lackluster, which makes sense given the changes in things like cast and venue, but it still has that avpm energy that’s just delightful)
8. black friday (this one again definitely shows how far they’ve come with story-writing, but i just wasn’t as invested in the characters or taken by the songs in this one, with the very important exception of the song black friday! that one i think is one of the best songs they’ve ever written)
9. twisted (i enjoy this one as a whole, as a huge fan of wicked it speaks to me and is funny, i just once again wasn’t as invested in the characters or taken by the songs so it tends to fade into the background compared to some of the other shows on the list; i do want to say dylan saunders performs the shit out of ja’far though)
10. holy musical b@man! (this one is just generally hilarious; the whole vibe of the show is just ridiculous and it’s a fun, light watch with a few banger songs, though i didn’t get that much out of most of the characters - i did almost put it at #9 because of the songs and joe walker’s batman though)
11. me and my dick (i’ve only seen this one once and as it was the one to follow avpm, i think i was just kind of bored in comparison - there were definitely funny moments, but i can’t remember a single song if i’m honest)
12 ani: a parody (again, i’ve only seen this one once and i honestly don’t remember much, but the fact that i haven’t felt the need to rewatch it tells me enough - i think i was a little bored throughout watching it the first time)
(really the only ones i don’t rewatch consistently are the last two, so i like all the other 10 shows a lot and numbers 8-10 could really easily be shuffled around between their spots on the list)
what do you guys think? do you agree (are also correct)? did i piss you off severely? let’s discuss!

mischief members cast in starkid shows part 4: twisted
ja’far: niall ransome
i believe he can pull off the straight man energy. i also believe he would be capable of emotionally damaging me in the sad parts. i trust him.
princess: rhyanna alexander-davis
LITERALLY PERFECT AND I WONT HEAR OTHERWISE. great for every single scene, but specifically i can hear her saying “he fucked a fish” (“he did not fuck a fish”) “he WANTED to fuck a fish.”
aladdin: dave hearn
with the amount of times he pretends to take off his shirt in mmni, i thought it was only fair to give him a role where he only wears a vest. but yeah, i think he makes an excellent villain, and i think he would have fun with the role. also you know he’d love the dancing in “i steal everything”.
achmed: joshua elliott
i simply think he’s good at doing silly voices like achmed’s. also the evil vizier has pre-redemption jumbo jumbo from fraud of the blings vibes. also he’d be great at any of the minor characters.
sultan / djinn: jonathan sayer
i am going to be completely honest with you; i cannot see him as the djinn. or any of the role’s minor characters. not that he wouldn’t be good at it, i just really don’t see it. HOWEVER i am so certain that he would be the perfect sultan that i have cast him in the role anyway. he just has the perfect energy for the sultan. my faith in this is so strong that i have decided to go against my gut on the rest of the parts and just give him the role.
sherrezade: bryony corrigan
i think she could nail the gentleness of this part. she’s also played a few couples with niall, so we know that works. i just think she’d pull it off really nicely.
captain: henry lewis
he could pull off the deadpan sooo well.
monkey / maleficent / ensemble: nancy zamit
i feel like i’m personally betraying her by not casting her as ursula, so first of all i’d like to officially apologise to her. but i really think she’d be perfect for this part. she’d be heaps of fun with dave in “i steal everything”, she’d also be great as maleficent, and she’d nail all the minor characters (i can especially see her as the little boy who steals bread in “the golden rule”).
bird / cruella / ensemble: susan harrison
the bird voice makes me think of her beaver voice in ashopalypse now.
ursula / ensemble: ellie morris
she could smash ursula, i can visualise her as the villager in the first song (“why does the sun go down at night?!”) and i really think she could own this role.
gaston / ensemble: harry kershaw
tell me this wouldn’t be the best thing ever, i dare you. the villager in the first song who keeps insulting ja’far reminds me of “we all hate this man”, i think he’d make a great gaston, and i would pay actual money to see him as guard 3 in “no one remembers achmed” (“he fucked a tiger”)
hook / ensemble: lauren shearing
idk i think she could do the glinda-from-wicked-esque character from the beginning.

jay talks about characters meme / accepting / @eternalbxtterfly
'🗣' + Sinbad
Tumblr media
It’s time to sit down as I talk about how I feel about THE GOAT. The anime itself had been recommended to me by a friend and she had told me to watch it, told me there will be a character I would absolutely love. Tellin’ ya fam, episodes one to three damn near put me to sleep, the series wasn’t BAD but Alibaba and Aladdin definitely wasn’t doing a good job pulling me into this series, little did I know there was a man that would have cemented my love for this series just on the horizon.
On the glorious seventh episode I was introduced to the man, the legend himself: Sinbad. And let me tell y’all he stole the show. He was presented to us as a laid back goofball but the way he spoke to Aladdin regarding adventuring with friends and whatever gave you the idea that there’s a little bit of wisdom there, like he’s definitely better than you think he is. BUT for real the first time you see him it’s just utter comedy chaos, even his subordinates (or just Ja’far) is really done with his shit. We see him get lectured and strangled and this was the man Ja’far built up as The conqueror of the seven seas.
AIGHT so this turned into one LONG ass post, so you can read more under the cut. XD
It isn’t until later that you find out that that isn’t just a nickname because it sounded cool. Without his metal drip he was still upheaving those hands against the thieves, making people bleed out from palm strikes, when people using their OWN metal vessels against him and he touches their arm and is like ‘nope’. That’s when I was like ‘OOOH I have a feeling we finna see this man cook.’ BUT we don’t until a LONG time from then. At that point it was night and I’ve binged as much magi as I could and then i remembered a little somethin’ somethin’.
Netflix also had a series titled Adventures of Sinbad, checked it out, main character had purple hair JUST like Sinbad..the ART itself was similar so i’m like ‘origin story?! OR just prototype spin-off. Said fuck it and watched it and I didn’t know what I had gotten myself into.
Folks there was a BIG difference between Magi episode 1 and Adventures of Sinbad episode 1 and you know what that is? FRIGGIN’ BADR. Sinbad’s old man was the GOAT himself and his ma OOH that’s a convo for another day cause I KNOW ya’ll see that healthy Esra <3 EITHER way, from then on we saw Sinbad’s humble beginning as a kid. For the most part I really thought we finna see this man go from broke to GOAT. BUT MAN was I mistaken because EVEN AS A TEEN this man WAS THE GOAT.  Y’all can’t tell me Ohtaka wasn’t straight COOKIN’ when she made Adventures of Sinbad. Sinbad was such an engaging protagonist, no disrespect to Aladdin and Alibaba cause I know they got their fans but Sinbad was just different for me. For two little seasons we literally watch sinbad finesse his way into success and this is my opinion but his group of friends were just so much better than the group in the next generation, for real. Hear me and hear me well if Ohtaka came out the wood work and said she was finna give us five episodes of Ja’far, Hinahoho,Mystras and Drakon’s past? I would have been on high alert waiting for them eps to drop before I go back to magi’s episodes 1-6. That’s just me. Either way by the end of the anime you get a feel for who sinbad is..kinda. See, my man’s was born in a poor little village where they draft boys of age and men into war. Left women as widows and parents outgrowing their children, it was just a terrible time so my man Sinbad was on his hero arc where he said he was going to change the world.
THIS HE DECIDED AT 14 and the anime only gave us three quick years of that journey and by the time Sinbad was 17 he was UNTOUCHABLE. ALTHOUGH if I’m being for real the boy was untouchable by the time he was 15, the only reason he’s even gotten attack I think is just the plot working against him. Most protags get plot armor but my man here got plot nerfs. But what I find is a good balance is that eventhough Sinbad has the power to end you in less than a second he really doesn’t like fighting. I mean hell he’s in this to put an end to it in the first place so he does what he can to end the fight as quickly as possible.
From there on we know Sinbad is nice, kind and considerate and really altruist about his goals, it isn’t until much further into the MANGA you see it’s not all black and white. By the time the anime ends Sinbad was on top of the world to the point that he’s gotten a little cocky. If the anime had went on ahead we would have been introduced to soo much angst, we saw Sinbad being humbled to becoming a slave and he makes his first contradictory step to his dream. Had it not been for Ja’far I think he would have dived into despair from there on out. I still question why Ja’far didn’t just kill him then and there…if only someone could enlighten me on their headcanon. Either way from there Sinbad just kept moving forward, whilst it was not an option to get his hands filthy he made a vow to build that beautiful world with those filthy hands.
We could see he tries and tries to stay on the straight and narrow but he’s faced with choice after choice which would just break anyone, but not my GOAT he went on strong. AND don’t get me started when his body because the vessel for the world’s greatest Evil Father David. GOD I do admire the fact that Sinbad did not fall victim to ‘the devil made me do it’ trope but it still would have been fun to see David completely possessing Sinbad during certain moments of the story when it came down to moral choices. See? My man grew up from a boy with altruistic desire to a man with a similar goal but I think from there he really believes in the phrase ‘the end justifies the means’. I was Okay with him becoming a manipulator, hell i would have even been okay with his transition to villainy, I just find it was handled poorly. I honestly believed of all people in the world Ja’far would be the ONE person that could bring him back to light and for making him literally LIE in the man’s face to me was like spitting on their friendship, no on their bond as brothers. The series didn’t end perfect but Sinbad was great and he delivered for me. It’s why he’s my second most favorite anime character.

StarKid and Musical Score #2
Pop culture parodies tread fine lines to avoid copyright violations, especially when it comes to music. Some go for a certain mood or genre to evoke the source. Holy Musical B@man! is a great example. Nick Gage and Scott Lamps used strictly synthesizer and an electronic drum kit. They made great use of the standard synthesizer sound, calling to mind ‘80s new wave electronic music; a darker electric guitar sound to capture the gritty Batman from The Dark Knight or The Killing Joke; and light and playful bell tones, representing the innocence of Robin or perhaps the campy silliness of the ‘60s Batman TV show.
When it’s a parody musical of a musical, the challenge is even greater. Enter Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier.
There’s not a lot of interstitial music to set the scenes, but what little there is excels with capturing the mood, like the eerie strings and woodwinds coupled with sporadic percussion during Aladdin’s breakdown near the end. Instead, Twisted features a large number of songs to fill its 2.25 hour runtime, so I’m going to focus on the instrumentals of those for this post. The instrumentation for this show includes keyboard, drums, guitar/bass, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, and alto/tenor saxophone. It’s a much bigger and more varied band than any StarKid show had before or since.
The endeavor that composer A.J. Holmes, accompanied by incredible lyricist Kaley McMahon, set out on was to evoke not only the source material, Disney’s Aladdin, but also other Disney movies of the same era and the Broadway musical Wicked. The Disney references are all over the place, including the Disney-fied StarKid logo. The latter was accomplished via the title (Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier vs. Wicked: The Untold Story of a Wicked Witch), the album cover, the method of role reversal (a villain posed as the hero of their own story), and even a direct reference to the book. But A.J., along with orchestrator Andrew Fox and music director Justin Fischer, took it a step further with several songs to give the audience a truly immersive and magical experience.
To keep it simple, I’m going to link each song--or most, as some I can’t quite figure out--to another Disney or Wicked song that A.J. was likely, or even obviously, taking influence from. The similarities are often in the instrumentation and tempo; chord progressions and adjacent melodies; or lyrics and character situations.
Not a song, but the opening music evokes the haunting strings and bells in the opening of Beauty and the Beast to a tee. Like...it’s a dead ringer, obviously in purpose.
“Dream a Little Harder”: An opening ensemble number like “Belle” from Beauty and The Beast. Introduces the protagonist and the surrounding characters with a sweet and tremulous flute at the beginning and bouncy strings throughout. Lyrics mirror each other, i.e. “Fuck you” = “Bonjour”...Nick’s favorite line, “Marie! The baguettes! Hurry up!”...they all hate Ja’far vs. they all think Belle is weird. Belle is even part of the ensemble, telling Ja’far to keep his “fat face out of the mother fucking book”! It’s a pretty obvious comparison.
“I Steal Everything”: “One Jump Ahead” from Aladdin is the obvious parallel in orchestration, melody, tempo, lyrics, character situation...everything.
“Everything and More”: Again, an obvious parody of “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. Same gentle yet sweeping melody, same lilting tempo paired with vocals timid one moment and powerful the next, lyrics exploring desire for more.
“A Thousand and One Nights”: This one was a little harder, as really none of the Disney princesses have duets with their princes. But I think it pairs well with “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King, at least after Timon and Pumbaa have their moment! The back and forth between lovers talking to themselves about the other has a similar feel. Honestly, this song is pretty original and yet manages to evoke Disney love song perfectly without copying any. The gentle melody, sweeping yet sweet orchestration, and the dialogue really sell it. They knew it was the love song because they went ahead and parodied the cheesy pop covers that ‘90s Disney movies are known for with a true bop performed by Britney Coleman and Carlos Valdes.
“Orphaned at 33″: Perhaps the reprise of “One Jump Ahead”? It’s slower and more melancholy and has similar chord progression and crooning vocals. Maybe “Go the Distance” from Hercules? Both are songs of sadness and longing, but StarKid’s Aladdin is far more pathetic and creepy than Hercules. EDIT: “Proud of Your Boy”, which was cut from Aladdin and put in the stage show, is absolutely the reference here! Again, a song of sadness and longing and self-pity and lamentation of a bad childhood...and StarKid’s Aladdin is still more pathetic. Musical parallels: similar chord progressions, embellishments, instrumentation, time signature, tempo, etc.; starts with delicate notes and Aladdin just talking (this starts at 46 seconds in “Orphaned at 33″, after a prelude); lilting and tiptoeing melody in the middle (1:56 for “Orphaned”, 1:08 for “Proud”); powerful sustained vocals and sweeping winds and strings to finish. I know this song was in the back of my mind, but it just wasn’t coming to me. Thank you @hatchetfieldtheories and @melchron for helping me out!
“Happy Ending”: The last half, at 1:50, really reminds me of “Defying Gravity” from Wicked, specifically at 5:15. The quiet and tense music make way for powerful vocals and are just waiting to burst forth for a showstopping ending. Both songs are also Act 1 closers. I can’t really place the rest of “Happy Ending”, but it all reminds me of Wicked with the powerful rock guitar and drums paired with cinematic strings. Plus, I always love when multiple melodies come together as reprises, most often as Act 1 closers!
“No One Remembers Achmed”: A sillier version of “Gaston” from Beauty and The Beast. The spurned villain’s cohorts are pumping him up and singing his praises! Both melodies are jaunty, though with different instrumentation...Twisted’s featuring sillier sound effects and goofy xylophone.
“Take Off Your Clothes”: A sexier version of “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. Slightly modified melody, and obviously the lyrics, but it’s exactly the same.
“The Power in Me”: A solemn and sweet farewell duet between friends like “For Good” from Wicked. The delicate woodwinds and strings sound similar to the gentle synth in “For Good”. Vocal performances are cautious and tender at first but quickly become strong and confident. “You are the power in me” and “I have been changed for good” follow almost the exact same rhythm.
The titular song has many facets, so I’ll detail them here:
Opening to 1:03 and 5:55 to the end = “No Good Deed” from Wicked, with the same intense strings and percussion. The whole situation and lyrics match, with both Ja’far and Elphaba deciding to just be antiheroes because no one sees them as heroes anyway. “I’ll be twisted, it’s my turn” matches “No good deed will I do ever again” and “I’m wicked through and through”.
1:10-2:06 = “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from The Little Mermaid...it’s Ursula, so of course...but also, the woodwinds and keyboard mimicking brass evoke the same bouncy yet menacing rhythm, akin to an evil polka.
2:07-2:50 = “Be Prepared” from The Lion King. Obviously, it’s Scar’s moment...but also, they have similar deep and primitive drums and woodwinds.
The rest of the songs (”Sands of Time”, “Golden Rule”, and “If I Believed”) I couldn’t really place, but they still evoke the source materials. “Golden Rule” has a classic musical theatre ensemble number feel, with fun strings and woodwinds and delightful choruses; the reprise turns it on its head with menacing piano and bass. “If I Believed” is another take on an “I want” song; the flute and cello pair very nicely together to support Dylan’s soulful voice.
My next post in this series will likely be about the Hatchetfield series: The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, Black Friday, and Nightmare Time. There’s a lot in between, like the AVP Trilogy, ANI, and Starship, but the music for those stands out less to me. They’re great, don’t get me wrong, but I think that the score is not what makes them special. The Hatchetfield stuff, however...is intense.
Thanks for reading!

The Music and Lyrics of Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier
I am obsessed with the complexity of the musical and lyrical composition of Twisted as both a standalone piece of theatre and a work that parodies and honors the music of traditional Disney music so I decided to make a separate post talking about a few of the highlights. Enjoy my ramblings!
“Dream A Little Harder”
This entire sequence is an obvious parody of the opening sequence to Beauty and The Beast, ‘Belle’. It is absolutely not subtle at all and that’s exactly why I love this number so much. As the song progresses and the ensemble sings together more, it sounds more like a generalized version of the classic Disney musical sound, with its whimsical notes and pure tones (looking at you, sopranos) and I have to give major kudos to AJ Holmes for not only this song but the entire score because it’s hard enough to make your own music but it’s even harder to make a song sound like another song from a different and very well-known composer without making it sound exactly the same and getting sued because of it
“Everything and More”
The Princess’ solo is hilarious and way more subtle in its Disney references in that it sounds like a general solo but musically and lyrically mirrors “Part Of Your World” from The Little Mermaid which becomes more and more noticeable with each listen of the recording
“A Thousand and One Nights”
Not only is this a perfect musical duet between Ja’far and Sherrezade, the title references the source material for Aladdin, which is a nice nod to the original tale
You know that StarKid are true Disney kids when they take the most memorable song from the show, which happens to be a romantic duet with the main character and their love interest, and turn it into a playfully overdone pop version that’s sung over the credits by two famous people - in this case Brittney Coleman and Carlos Valdes, who I’m 99% percent sure are actually reincarnated 90’s pop stars with those vocals (both hilariously accurate while also incredibly well-sung)
“Happy Ending”
One of my favorite things that musicals do are numbers where each character sings their own individual melody line all together with other characters and it ends in gorgeous harmonies (ex. “One Day More” from Les Mis) which is really hard to write for and Holmes and McMahon executed it so well that listening to this song makes me tear up sometimes and I’m not ashamed
Ja’far’s solo sections are a musical reference to “The Wizard and I” from Wicked which is both a great general musical theatre reference and a lovely nod to the other half of Twisted’s plot inspiration    > Lyrics from “And one day the Genie will say to me, ‘Ja’far you’re a man of such virtue” to “I’d like to bring back your bride” - Twisted, lyrics from “And one day he’ll say to me, ‘Girl who is so superior” to “If I de-greenify you?” - Wicked
“Take Off Your Clothes”
Anyone who attended middle school and/or had an internet connection in the 2000s was made aware of the many supposed instances is subliminal messaging in Disney cartoons of the 90s and early 2000s, especially the one about Aladdin’s line when he goes to Jasmine’s window at the palace before “A Whole New World”. Instead of being heard of as “Good tiger, now take off and go”, many people believe Aladdin actually says “Good teenagers, take off your clothes”, and used this as an argument that Disney was polluting the young minds of innocent children (x)
This song also references the supposed subliminal message that a reference to the special effects department of The Lion King, in which a puff of smoke reads ‘SFX’, actually spells out the word ‘sex’ (x)
The fact that they made an entire song about this proves that these kids are actually Disney fans, 10/10
“Twisted”
The introductory notes also feel like a Wicked reference with the use of electric guitar and strings together, very strong Stephen Schwartz and Alex Lacamoire vibes
As I mentioned earlier, it’s super hard to write original music and lyrics for a show during any given production and it’s also just as hard to musically and lyrically reference someone else’s music without risking copyright infringement. This absolute banger of a song manages to do both, while also doing the musical thing where people all sing different things at the same time while sounding great and making me almost cry with how pretty everything is
They parody The Little Mermaid with Ursula’s introduction, The Lion King with Scar, and Beauty and the Beast with Gaston’s entrance without actually sampling the music from their respective movies
“The question then is whether 'tis nobler in the mind/To be well liked but ineffectual, or moral but maligned?” poetry, I don’t even need to explain myself
Those lyrics are from the same person that wrote “We’ll remember Achmed, the tiger-fucking man!”
The duality of it all is beautiful
Overall, Twisted has incredible music and lyrics and I would die for AJ Holmes and Kaley McMahon, thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Note
1, 2, 4 for the salty ask list, please!
1.) What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
For SW: most of the mainstream Clone/Jedi ship especially Rexwalker, Rexsoka, and Plowolffe. I just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ nope, no thanks. I also don’t get Monnk/Kit like. They probably had interactions in Comics, but canon they had like 2 lines and one of them was Kit just recognizing Monnk as commander im 90% sure
Also for SW: ANY Padawan/Master Ship. I will come for you kneecaps if I see anyone tagging my shit as ObiKin, Anisoka, or QuiObi. I’m a ship what you want person but if you’re tagging my original stuff with those tags I’m gonna throw hands
Another SW: Barrissoka?? I know people love it because wlw and all that, but Filoni needs to stop uncanon-izing actual canon as well. Barriss was always like 20 something in my eyes and sure tcw changed that but. I grew up with Barriss being a whole ass adult. It’s weird to suddenly see her as not that. (Also I never connected with Barris. At all)
For FGO: Jalter/Bryn, Jeannecest, Semiramis/Amakusa
2.) Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
See above. But also:
Cu/Emiya, Arturia/Emiya, and Robin Hood/Billy the Kid/ Geronimo from FGO
And Ja’far/Sinbad, Alibaba/Aladdin, and Kouen/Sinbad/Muu from Magi
Greed or Greedling/ Ed and also Ed/Ling. Sorry but I love Edwin and LanLing too much
With more SW:
Kit/Aayla I never got because I feel like they were kinda sorta only shipped because of that own kiss comic?? I have a lot of thoughts but also I’m PloKit trash ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
4.) Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
Once again see 1
But in general: anything with family or siblings is a no, I’m looking at you OHSHC.
But especially Padawan/Master Ships + Rexwalker and Rexsoka.
I’m not super big on Codywan / rexwan or Obitine (because I hate satine lmaoooo) but I can work with them if I must.
Most clone/Jedi ships it’s mostly just the power imbalance that I’m not crazy about but it also depends on how it’s written, I suppose.
But also fuck Rexwalker. I just can’t. Fucking cannot do it. Don’t make me read Rexwalker.
Also for FGO: anything with a child character, also see above, and MC/Kiyohime or Serenity or Raikou like I am fear ™

cw: discussion of some gross ass ship in magi and me swearing twice ‼️
i don’t know if it’s because you all watched magi first and THEN sinbad no bouken but if you ship ja’far and sinbad during sinbad no bouken you are disgusting
he is ten you hear me? TEN or twelve but that’s not making you look any better
and to make matter worse the most stuff i stumble upon the most is from where sinbad is sixteen what the fuck was wrong w all those people in the fandom back in the day
i ship them during the whole magi part, they’re both adults and can do as they please but what the holy fuck is wrong w anyone thinking that’s okay
and i can get the ja’far could’ve had a crush on sin back then, because guess what? kids get crushes in older people! but if you think ja’far who had just gotten out of a traumatic situation would’ve been thinking about it or and this really bothers me that sinbad would ever do anything like that literally what in the world is wrong w you people
but rielle! he is a pervert! no u excuse of a human, he is sixteen and loves women and takes any opportunity to flirt with them! that’s just him being a teenager

my personal ranking of Starkid/TCB shows
The Trail to Oregon: flawless humor, EXCELLENT foreshadowing, amazing family relationships, the music is just stellar
Firebringer: absolutely love the female representation, how many wlw there are, the songs are so good and tender, peak Meredith, 10000/10
Black Friday: I think this is starkid’s smartest show, the characters are so well fleshed out and serve the show’s story so well, mirror each other and tell a deeper story than it even seems at first. you can dig deep and it keeps getting deeper.
The Solve It Squad Returns: another comfort show, love the relationships between Scrags and all of them, the feelings are so deep felt, the humor is on fucking point, great show, catchy song
Holy Musical B@man!: the only superhero movie I ever want to watch in my life, wish superman & batman had gotten together at the end
Twisted: every day I’m dying and crying thinking about Ja’far okay
Me and My Dick: SOFTEST SHOW EVER. IT’S SO TENDER AND WHOLESOME. BODY POSITIVE AF. GREAT MESSAGE, SUPER SILLY AND ADORABLE.
The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals: I would fucking die for Charlotte, the songs are outstanding, LOTS of incredible jeff blim content. don’t give a shit about paul.
A Very Potter Musical: by far the one that stands out the most of the trilogy, I think this one has the most heart and the songs are SO good. quirky af, very silly/goofy, absolutely essential.
Starship: I love my wife Mega-Girl and I want 5 more musicals just about her please. joey’s hair was great in this, lauren’s biceps were much greater.
Ani: I’ve never seen star wars but now I don’t need to.
Spies Are Forever: the opening song is INCREDIBLE, the story is great and well built up to the climax, the characters are endearing, absolutely hate how the epilogue handles Curt’s alcoholism, will never watch again.
A Very Potter Sequel: good wolfstar content, love some of the songs, not enough jaime for my taste, don’t like the draco potty & elf jokes, hate Umbridge. nice Romione scene.
A Very Potter Senior Year: the Ron content is absolutely out of this world but aside from him, I found this show incredibly forgettable aside from Sidekick, Get in My Mouth and the Gilderoy scenes. some scenes are outright uncomfortable. somehow I spent like all of act 2 in complete tears cause I was so deeply touched by it when I watched it, and then I just never watched it again.
