This, believe it or not, is her little ritual for getting into character. Okay, so this is...normal?

almost forgot. ten's run episode ranking (nine ranking here)
some stray thoughts and opinions under the cut
my overall ranking for the series so far would be 4 > 1 >= 3 > 2. donna sweep babygirl
"i have brain damage" tier would've been called "the qpr meth has gotten to me" but then i remembered how absolutely glued to the screen i was for sound of drums <3 all of the other episodes there are either donna episodes or episodes where ten goes through horrors specifically bc donna isn't there and sound of drums is the exception lmao
by default i think simm!master is the best main villain in ten's run. he is still very goofy like the cybermen and the daleks (and 98% of the villains in this show really) but simm!master has that toxic doomed yaoi backing him and that means everything in the world. rtd drop your simm!master spotify playlist
it is SO CRAZY how an episode called "planet of the ood" can make me cry. but it did. and i love it for it. i love the ood so much. they are my little guys
stolen earth/journey's end was my least favorite arc in main series 4 - which is just a testament to how much i loved the rest of it lmao. like i still rly liked the finale, and the scene of davros pointing out that ten turned their friends into soldiers and how it was framed almost like they were being put on trial. Was so fucking juicy. but it felt overall like the story was doing that "trying to include everyone" thing and the pacing felt off as a result. like i rly needed the donna mind wipe scene to be longer it was goin so fast i couldn't process it
42 goes so crazy and i love it so much bc to me it is the defining tenmartha episode. you have that showcase of deep inherent trust, of swearing to save each other, of being the person the other needs bc is there anyone else. but you also have ten screaming at her to kill him so that he won't hurt anyone and then at the end, deflecting and refusing to talk w her about it. "burn with me martha" is like that previously-unspoken-now-brought-to-front undercurrent to their whole relationship and ten says it while being possessed by a rageful vindictive sun. waow
i really dislike the temporary companions (astrid and christina in voyage of the damned and planet of the dead respectively). not the characters themselves but the timing and role they have in the story and how they're framed. i do understand that part of ten's character is that he gets attached very easily and can't stand being on his own, but also for astrid this was directly post-martha where ten's realized he's been fucking up her life by acting the way he did. and for christina this was post-donna and pre-time-lord-victorious. forming a friendship that ends w/ tragedy or ten pushing them away i can see, but romantic tension is pushing it HARD. which leads me to my next deranged point
ten is aroace to me i'm so sorry society he clocked the aroace meter the minute the story decided to introduce donna and then in series 4 make them the soulmates of all time while there isnt a HINT of romantic tension between them. and there is something so narratively aspec about ten being created by and for love but sometimes his love isn't enough/isn't the right kind and everyone will leave or find someone else. being an alien can be a metaphor for being aroace if i'm crazy enough about it (and also if their humanity is a constant theme to their arc that is hammered in time and time again)
i forgot i was supposed to talk about the episodes hold on a second
one of the most out of body experiences i had was watching love and monsters, really quite liking it (despite finding the ending weird) because it's a grounded and solid episode w strong characterization and really great jackie and rose moments, only to find out this episode is nearly universally despised by the dr who fanbase. help girl
the human ten arc probably has the most underrated villains in the show. i just really love that concept of monsters that need to eat timelords in order to survive, and ten giving them one chance to be spared of his rage and die peacefully by turning himself into a human for a hot minute. it's just really neat idk.
time lord victorious my babygirl. like oh my god i was wondering for the entire time how the fuck does ten go from "vain/overconfident but at heart always driven by his love for others" to "god complex" and the answer to this question is "you take away everyone he cares about and make him watch more and more people die in front of him until he just fucking snaps". at the end of waters of mars i was almost expecting him to knock 4 times on the tardis door himself and was so glad it didnt happen. etc etc. i'm also really glad that it doesn't last for more than 5 minutes. what he does essentially haunts him for the rest of his (short) life and that's so so important
end of time part 2 doesn't get a ranking. it is simultaneously the best episode and worst episode. it made me cry my eyes out three separate times. like it's not even an episode anymore it's like an experience. specifically one akin to watching a good friend you made over the course of 16 days die in front of you. i felt my soul being sucked out and i wont ever feel anything again (until the 60th anniversary specials fix me). god fucking bless
but pairing up martha and mickey out of nowhere was so so fucking bad and i need to actually murder whoever made that decision

I finally read the prologue of o&u and I'm struggling to find the words in English to express how in love I'm with your writing. God I missed it sm!
Ngl, I'm kinda lost with Genshin rn because I haven't played since August (i hate university) but I think I'll start playing again during my Christmas break because I forgot how in love I'm with the game.
Also, I can't wait to see how you write Tighnari! I didn't pay too much attention to him when he came out but now I love him!
These last months I've been reading books in my native language so reading this was so pleasant to get back on track with my English reading. You're such an amazing writer Cat.
Okay, that's it. I know I'm going to enjoy this fic so much. I'll write you again when I catch up with the last chapter.

okay but where tf is my hg tannhaus content at? he basically had to raise some baby just after he lost his kid and grandkid, he's a clock maker who doesn't (or does depending how you see his 'splitting the world' thing) time travel and his 'life's work' is borne from a bootstrap paradox. all i'm saying is. hg tannhaus king.
Sorry I kind of forgot about this asks and I'm not sure if this response will satisfy your need for more Tannhaus content but here we go.
It's true, his clockworker aesthetic is extremely underutilized in fanart and I rarely see any fanfiction of him, even though there's tons of potential interactions with Charlotte and internal struggles that the show chose not to portray. Like how does Tannhaus deal with the absolute whiplash of losing his entire family and then becoming a father again in the same night? What's the relationship between him and Charlotte like? Besides all the obvious angst? Do they make pancakes together? Does Tannhaus actually dare to love her or is he scared that he will lose her "again"? We will never know!! Although sealandreich on ao3 has a very good Charlotte- and Tannhaus-focused series, so I would recommend you check that out.
Usually I would rant more about how this character deserved way more screentime, however! in this case I understand the artistic choice behind retaining Tannhaus for as much as they did. It makes sense if you see the series through a Jewish/Christian lens with Adam and Eva representing their biblical counterparts and Tannhaus as the creator of their universes representing god. Though usually in religious texts, god is presented either as a punishing force or as a loving fatherly figure. Dark subverts this expectation by making it's god figure mostly ignorant towards his creation. Very angsty and *Hannibal voice* nietzschean, if I dare say so. On a side note, it's also very obvious that Claudia is Dark's take on Satan, even though (or rather especially because) she is not a purely malicious force. She's the one pulling all of the strings, she's the one getting Jonas and Martha to commit the original original sin, and generally being a morally grey queen. And like... she gets called "Der Weiße Teufel" all the time, I think we get it lmao.
Another religious approach, that also fits nicely into Dark's love of the number three, would be a Hindu reading, where Tannhaus, Adam and Eva each represents a part of the Trimurti. Tannhaus would therefore be Brahma the creator, Eva would be Vishnu the conserver and Adam Shiva the destroyer. I am not at all an expert on Hinduism but as far as I understand all of them are actually one entity (->everything is connected). Which also ties in with a third possible reading:
The whole multiverse is Tannhaus's trauma response to losing his family. I know, this is basically canon but I propose that if we theoretically could see every character, who was created in the time travel bullshit thing, as a facet of Tannhaus's personality/emotional response to his trauma. Adam represents pure anger and bad coping mechanisms that only hurt him and others more, whereas Eva represents his urge to remain in this sort of comforting stage of depression. I guess that would make Claudia a therapist of some sorts? Or maybe his only healthy impulse in all of this mess? Idk at this point I'm just rambling.
This got very dry and very serious very quickly so fun Tannhaus headcanons: He loves bird watching (while they are alive), he once met Nena but didn't recognize her (one of many things to fuel Charlotte's teen angst) and.... he's trans. (There's nothing to indicate that any of this is true, I just want it to be.)
To conclude this essay, yes, Tannhaus is actually technically speaking the main character and yes, I will probably make fanart of him soon and lastly yes, Dark good. Have a wonderful day, anon.

Be Wherever (Whoever) You Are
Fandom: Steven Universe
Rating: G
Relationships: Lars & Rose Quartz, Lars & Steven
Characters: Lars Barriga, Rose Quartz (Pink Diamond), Martha Barriga, Dante Barriga, Steven Quartz Universe; other characters are only mentioned
Summary: “Hm… I don’t think that’s a problem,” the pink-haired lady tells him. “You can always change your name whenever you feel like it.”
The boy looks up, meeting her shining black eyes. “I can?”
Rose grins at him. “You’re always growing and changing… and I think your name is the perfect way to show that, even if no one gets it. It’s what makes you happy. Isn’t that so?”
He’s quiet for maybe a minute, thinking about what she said.
“Yeah… you’re right,” he says, finally.
“So,” Rose speaks up again. “what’s your name?”
--
At the age of four, Laramie is already pretty lost. That changes when he finds a really beautiful garden one day.
Word count: 2.000
AO3
A/N: I remember way back then when people had the idea of Lars meeting Rose before the events of the show, and although this might contradict canon, I’m all for this concept!
I do hope I wrote Rose well, and I’m still getting in the hang of writing child characters, lmao... well, enjoy anyway!
TRIGGER WARNINGS - implied character death and bullying
--
Laramie doesn’t like school.
If anything, he’s sure most kids don’t… but his reason isn’t the same as theirs. As far as he’s concerned, they’re not left alone like he is during recess. Or even during class.
Laramie is only four – almost five – and he’s got a corner of his own, near the small woods. The teachers say he’s not allowed, but honestly, they don’t seem to care when he goes there.
That’s how it is. They don’t care about him. His classmates never invite him to join them, and when he does try, they avoid him like the plague. Like he’s got some dirt on his face or something. Or maybe his face is the dirt they don’t like.
And well, that’s how he ended up here. In the woods. They’re not scary like his teachers say; they’re really small. Harmless. It doesn’t take that long for him to find another way out in the opposite direction.
What he finds, though… is a place he’s never seen before.
It’s a huge garden with pink flowers blooming. This place looks so… dreamy. Like some kind of paradise. It’s very pretty.
Laramie is careful with the flowers as he walks in. Is this what his teachers have been hiding? Or have they never thought of going in there, judging only by the woods behind him? Because that’d be dumb.
The boy looks down, the flowers staring back. Laramie looks around, wondering if this garden belongs to anyone… but it doesn’t seem like anyone’s here, and there isn’t a house nearby. So, he sits down, and for some reason that feels really good. This does feel like paradise.
This might be his new little corner. It’s so far from everything, from school, his teachers, the other kids… it’s perfect.
Laramie smiles for maybe the first time in a while (“now Laramie, you should smile more!” He remembers his teacher say, much to his internal annoyance). He doesn’t care about anything at all right now.
… well, before he hears someone coming.
“I see you like my garden.”
Laramie shrieks, turning around and finding… the tallest woman he’s seen. She’s got pink hair, huge curls falling on her shoulders. She’s wearing a long white dress with a star shape in her belly.
“S-Sorry! I didn’t know anyone owned it!” Laramie blurts out. She doesn’t seem annoyed, though.
“It’s okay,” she laughs silently, “it’s nice to have some company.”
Her voice is so… soft. You’d think his mother was sweet like candy, well, this woman manages to beat his own mom in that.
The woman sits next to him, though not that close, which he likes. Laramie just isn’t good at talking to people, least of all a woman so nice and pretty… her presence is as relaxing as the flowery ground under him.
Laramie can’t really help staring. He knows it isn’t polite, but there’s something about her… something different.
When she looks at him back, though, Laramie looks away the fastest he can. He can tell she’s smiling, anyway.
“Where are you from?” She asks.
“O-Oh, um. I’m from… here. I-I mean, Beach City.” Laramie wants to punch himself, stupid, stupid. “And you?”
The woman hums. “I’ve come from very far… far away from this place.”
“How did you get here?”
“Oh, that’s a very long story,” she responds, her smile… falling a little. She soon recovers, “What matters, though… is that I’m here now. I’m home.”
Laramie nods and doesn’t ask about it anymore.
“How did you get your flowers to grow?” He wonders instead.
“What if I told you it’s magic?”
Laramie raises an eyebrow. “Really?”
She nods with a smile. “Would you like to see it?”
“Uh, yeah?” He says like it’s obvious, but not in a rude way, he hopes. She seems to like it, anyway.
She picks up what seems like a bunch of leaves and kisses them, sparkles coming out. Right then, Laramie gasps at the pink flower in her hands.
“Woah! How’d you do that?”
“Magic,” she repeats, amused.
“Cooool…”
She gives him the flower and he admires it. It is different from other flowers, though. In the center of the petals, there’s…
“… a gem?”
The woman hums. “It’s unlike what you’ve seen before, isn’t it?”
“Yeah…”
“Did you know, I’m still inspired by all the other flowers you’ve got in your home. They’re why I’ve created this place.” She smiles both at the flower and the young boy. “You have a very beautiful home.”
Laramie holds it like it’s a treasure, worth so much that not even money can count. When he looks at the woman again, he does notice the… pink stone in her belly, too.
“What’s that?” He points at it. “Is that where your magic comes from?”
“Yes.” She touches her own belly lovingly. He looks at it, too.
“Wait…” he jumps away in alarm. “Is it moving?!”
The woman laughs. “That’s actually my son!”
“Oh.” Laramie blushes. He scoots closer again. “You’re having a kid?”
“Mm-hmm. He’ll come very soon.”
“That’s, uh, neat.”
She looks at her own belly like she loves her child so much, even before he’s really there. “I can’t wait for him to be born. For him to explore and fall in love with this world like I did…” she speaks, “and for him to make friends with someone as sweet as you.”
“W-What?” Laramie stutters. “Y-You really… mean that?”
She nods again. The woman isn’t messing with him. Every word she says is honest and comes from her heart. Besides his parents, she’s… the only person who’s ever enjoyed being around him.
“Hey, uh… what’s your name?” Laramie asks, realizing he hasn’t before.
“You can call me Rose,” she says. “And what is yours?”
His joy disappears in a second, and he looks away, so she doesn’t see his frown.
“What’s wrong?” Rose wonders, concerned.
Laramie doesn’t really like talking about it. Not even with Mom and Dad… but even if he’s just met Rose, she’s been nothing but nice with him. It’s really the least he could do.
“I don’t… really like my name,” he admits. “It doesn’t feel right.” He scoffs at himself, “Ugh, I know, it doesn’t make sense.”
“Oh, no, I understand what you mean,” she reassures him. “It doesn’t fit you, right?”
“Yeah.” He sighs, looking at the flower, its petals moving with the breeze. “I can’t really be myself, so I just hide from everyone… but I want to go out there and be me, y’know? And I’m not gonna do that with a name as lame as mine!” He exclaims.
Rose doesn’t interrupt him at all. She listens all the way through, and she knows he has more to say.
“I wish I could change it… but no one would get it,” the boy complains. “No one really gets me, anyway,” he mutters in his breath.
“Hm… I don’t think that’s a problem,” the pink-haired lady tells him.
It’s a simple question, but Laramie gets what she means.
He’s never had the gut to really say the answer… but now, now might be just the time he stopped being a coward and dealt with it.
Laramie opens his mouth.
--
“… ‘Lars’?”
“Yeah, it’s my name now! You can call me Lars from now on!” The boy claims, his stance firm and tough.
Mom and Dad stare at him like he’s hit his head hard and forgot everything. Then his mother giggles affectionately.
“Oh, Laramie, you’re so creative,” she says. “What a great nickname!”
“It’s not a nickname, mom!” Lars protests. “Like, I know you guys have other names, but you want me to call you Mom and Dad. So, I want you to call me Lars!”
“Right, son. Whatever makes you happy,” his dad tells him. Lars can tell he finds it cute, too, which is the opposite of what the boy really wants.
“Now, go take a shower, sweetie,” Mom says. “You seem like you had a pretty big adventure today.”
“Yes, mom,” the boy answers with a sigh, walking to the stairs.
“And please do your homework when you’re done, Laramie!” Dad says from afar.
“It’s Lars, dad!” Lars yells back, quickly rushing to the bathroom.
Yeah, he should’ve expected that. Of course his parents wouldn’t get it… But Lars is a pretty cool name, though.
The boy takes the pink flower from his pocket and puts it on the sink, smiling at it before he gets in the shower.
--
He doesn’t know why he’s got into this.
Steven wants to take him and Sadie on a vacation, because sure. Why not?
So, they’re inside Steven’s house, which is pretty big. Inside there’s a pretty stony place, probably because of that giant statue. There’s also a platform guarding a big door in there.
“You’ve got a nice house, Steven,” Sadie compliments.
“Thank you,” Steven grins. “Now come on, the warp pad is this way! Get ready to have your jaws dropped!”
Lars sighs, staying behind while Sadie and Steven go ahead. He does look around. If you take away that warp thing and the statue, it’s a pretty standard beach house. It does seem like Steven doesn’t have a bedroom of his own, though…
Once Lars takes a glimpse behind him, he’s… stunned, to say the least.
It’s a pretty big painting on the wall, just above the front door. It’s a portrait of a beautiful pink-haired woman, whose eyes are closed. Her hair and dress flow like she’s floating in clouds, fully at peace.
Lars doesn’t know why, but something about her is…
“Hey, Lars, you coming?”
Steven’s loud voice takes him off guard, and Lars tries his best to disguise the feeling, “Uh, yeah, sure. Whatever.”
“Oh, that’s my mom,” Steven tells him, knowing very well he’d been staring at the painting like a creep. “She’s pretty, right?”
“Your mom?” Lars repeats.
He tries to suppress the shame from when he’d insulted Steven’s mother not too long ago. It really seemed like a tough topic to the kid, and while Lars hasn’t verbally apologized, he’s been thoughtful of not disrespecting Steven’s mom again. Lars didn’t know her, after all.
Either way, she does look… divine in that portrait. He remembers Steven saying that she saw beauty in everything, and even in the painting you can probably see that.
It’s… he doesn’t know how to word that. Lars can say, though, that the painting awes him.
“Come on, Lars! We have a vacation to get to!” Steven pulls him out of his thoughts.
The older boy sighs exasperatedly. Lars doesn’t have a choice now, does he?
For once, he follows Steven in that weird “warp pad”, really not sure how the hell they’d get anywhere. But sure, he’ll let Steven do his thing.
Lars does take one last look at the painting, before the three of them are gone in thin air.
--
After that day, he went back to visit Rose.
But she wasn’t there.
He went there the day after that, and she was still nowhere to be seen. And every other day after that.
He could only wonder where she was. Maybe she travelled? Or moved away from Beach City?
The garden stayed the same, but Lars never saw the woman again. He didn’t even have the chance to really say goodbye to her… or thank her at all.
Regardless, the flowers stayed. In a way, Lars could feel her presence there with him.
The garden became a little home of his own.

Hi Paloma 👋 Thank you for always answering my asks 😊.
The episode was perfect from beginning to end. Edser at the doctor and Serkan taking a pic of the baby were beautiful scenes and then it was funny to see him with Engin trying to discover the baby's gender 😂.
Once again, the moms appeared to give suggestions on how to know if it's a boy or a girl 😂.
Also, to see Piril mad while Engin was so calm trying to make her feel the same way was a sweet moment. They're a great couple 💕.
Poor Serkan when someone else felt the baby kicking but not him and I can't believe that finally, we know the reason why Erdem couldn't be fired. I never thought of that. As soon as I saw him wearing the black suit it made me laugh. He's always funny and didn't miss the chance to speak nonsense and make Serkan lose patience 😂.
Besides that, the kids saying they are getting married was cute and funny as well as seeing Aydan trying to do things for her mother in law and looking for the ring 😂.
Serkan and the new doctor drove Eda crazy that she forgot Serkan's birthday but it was beautiful to see Melo organizing everything for his birthday party. She said she will do it and it came true. She was very excited 💕. Their friendship is amazing. She adores him very much 😊.
Kiraz hugging Eda's belly and being jealous of the baby were adorable and funny moments as well as her suggestion to call him like a vegetable 😂.
For the second time, we have watched Serkan's birthday but this time he is surrounded by all the people who love and appreciate him and finally, he felt the baby kicking 💕. Loved to see Seyfi singing HBD. He was very excited and the hug between Kemal and Serkan was a special moment 😊.
Now, it makes sense the hospital scene and can't wait for the next and last episode. It's been wonderful to have decided to watch SÇK and enjoy doing it weekly ❤.
hi, martha! no, thank YOU for sharing your thoughts with me every week. it has been one hell of a ride and it is sad that the last message from the bölüm is going to be approaching soon.
the scene where he takes the photo is so funny because after doing that he goes to eda and hugs her with this smile like he hasn't done anything lmao. serkan and engin trying to go from using a magnifier to talking to the ladies it was hilarious. serkan arrived home asking a bunch of questions to eda and he was like " SOUR?????" so funny!
eda and piril's friendship on this season has been so nice to see from beginning to end.
I laughed SO hard during the scene with erdem because he went to art life to apologize and for engin to drop that boom was so good. and serkan throwing him books at him was too funny. kerem has really good aim!
aydan wanted to get rid of that ring SO fast lmao that at the end she was glad it was lost until it was not. honestly, I wouldn't mind if we ever get a can/kiraz spin off because these two are the cutest thing!
I laughed with kiraz and her suggestion. "I am a fruit so let him be a vegetable and a lil chubby" SGHAJDGASDASHD
the birthday scene was really sweet. melo kept her promised and throw him a birthday party <3 eda looking at him been truly happy and soaking up the moment made me emo because it was like hande was saying goodbye. serkan telling her that this was his second best birthday made me so so emo and the way they both said "cupcake" <333333 ugh, my babies!
serkan deserved to have kemal from the very start but due to circumstances he was raised by someone who didn't love him. glad he has him now and that he knows that he is worth it.
next episode is going to be so hilarious but so sad at the same time. I am going to be laughing one minute and then crying the next. this dizi has been my life for 11 months and I am not ready to let them go.

Did you enjoy the Doctor Who new year’s special?
I'm just going to use this as an opportunity to rant about the whole thing if it's okay, because I have a lot of thoughts about it, so this is just going to be me rambling, I apologise in advance anon.
Overall, I really really enjoyed it, in my opinion I think it's one of 13s best after Spyfall and FOTJ.
I'm so so pleased that Jack was finally able to meet 13, as I was kinda disappointed he didn't in S12, although I was excited as well. I think 13 and Jack were really great together and I loved the whole rescue, ofc Jack had his vortex manipulated shoved up his ass lmao. Also I loved the whole "have you had work done?" "You can talk" bit, it gave me flashbacks to 10 🙃. However, I do think the whole rescue was a bit rushed, I feel like it was a bit too easy for 13 and Jack to escape, also I want to know what exactly did Jack do to get him locked up??? 😂😂
The whole section where the Doctor was in prison was so 🥺🥺🥺. The part where she was telling herself Harry Potter and also how she said hello to all of the other prisoners, sksfsfgk she's just so cute, I love her sm. Also how she said "oh I forgot you were here" to the Silence and also Angela the Weeping Angel, I just dfghfd 😆😍.
Yaz, oh my gosh, she's so in love with 13, I just 😢😢. I personally have mixed feelings about Thasmin, it would be very cute, but I see it as more one-sided ngl, I like it but I prefer other ships like 13/River or Thoschei or 13/Rose etc, however I would be happy if Chibnall made it canon. However in this episode anyone can see that she is head over heels, and at the start she misses 13 so much, I can't. Also her conversation with Jack, it gave me so many feels, it also took me back to S3 when Jack and Martha had that conversation about loving 10. I really liked Yaz and Jack's dynamic, and I feel sad that John Barrowman isn't going to return for S13.
I was kinda disappointed with 13 and the fam's reunion ngl. I mean they do have a right to be frustrated with 13, but it wasn't her fault she was locked up and like they didn't even ask where shed been, idk it just felt a little off. However, Jack continuing to flirt with Graham was funny and so him, although I kinda wished 13 said "Stopppp", like what usually happens.
The Daleks were really cool,I liked their new black and red design, although it was good to see the old bronze Daleks as well, best of both. Overall, ngl I was more focused on the 13, Jack and the fam than the Daleks and the actual plot ngl, although the part where the Dalek was controlling Leo (was that his name?) was pretty cool.
I absolutely hated that Jack Robertson (was that his name?), Omg I was ready to leap through the screen and punch him in the face the entire time, he was literally like Trump 2.0 and the way be got all the credit for it and on the news they said he was in line to be president I just ugh 😡😡😡. Also I didn't like the new PM, I miss Harriet Jones ngl.
The references to Rose, 😭😭😭, let's just say I'm still not over her. Also I liked the reference to Gwen Cooper, although I haven't actually watched Torchwood yet (I am going to!!!), Although I thought they could've given Jack a better exit, especially since we don't know when we're going to see him again (hopefully soon!!!). Also I want to see Jack's suite with the cocktail bar 😂😂.
Graham and Ryan's exit I thought on the other hand was really well done. I'm glad they didn't get killed off by Daleks, like I thought was going to happen, and the scene at the end with the bike paralleling the S11 Pilot, I just ugh so many feels!!! Also 13 FINALLY got some hugs, it's about time after what she's been through. Although I love Graham I've never really been keen on Ryan, he just never had much personality ngl, however I am going to miss them both 😢😢😢. I thought Ryan's conversation with the Doctor about the whole Timeless Child thing was really good, and I'm glad it's not going to overshadow future episodes (at least I hope it doesn't).
Finally, John Bishop. Ngl Ive never heard of him before, apparently he's some Scouse comedian, I hope he's good, although I have mixed feelings. However Bradley Walsh is a comedian and I liked Graham and Catherine Tate was absolutely iconic as Donna, so i am willing to give him a chance. Despite this, I am really disappointed that we're not going to have an all-female TARDIS, and Iwas really looking forward to it being just 13 and Yaz. I don't know why Chibnall can't just let 13 have the one companion, especially as one of the key issues with S11 and 12 was because there were 4 characters there wasn't much development, and Chibnall had a chance to fix that and let Yaz properly develop, but he just threw that away. Nevertheless I am going to give him a chance and I am excited for S13, as although the past few seasons have been a mixed bag, personally I think that usually the 3rd season of each doctor had been their best (except with maybe 11).
Thank you for reading this much, if indeed you still are, like I said before although the special wasn't perfect, I loved it and I can't wait until S13.

Do you have any recommendations of female artists (sculptors and painters)? (I went to a museum and now im salty lmao)
Off the top of my mind, I might remember someone else some time soon:
Sonia Delaunay. My girl LIVED and BREATHED art. She was the type to literally, and I mean wholly, surround herself with art to the point of living inside art. She sewed, made costumes for the theater, she made puppets, dolls, quilts, even furniture. She was an incredible, outstanding painter. She is at the centre of Orphism more so than Robert, her husband, who was more of a cubism guy. Now, from what I gather, a lot of what people say about Sonia in other countries is coupled with her husband, as if you can't talk about her without mentioning him. To a degree, that's correct because the two had a really secure partnership. They were both creators, and they pushed each other. It was incredibly inspiring tbh. But Sonia has her own merit, and in Portugal she is actually way more relevant than Robert bc of the influence she had on our modernist circle.
Lee Krasner. If only people sort of forgot she was Pollock's wife. Her method of creating is fascinating to me cause this girl just destroyed her past work completely, but instead of throwing it in the trash, she reused it to create new works. Art historians in the post modernist era weren't too kind to her, but she's being avenged. She's methodical and clearly puts so much thought into her composition her creative process is fascinating.
Julia Margaret Cameron. This woman is one of my favourite artists in the world. Cameron began taking photographs at 42 years old after she moved to the isle of Wight in England. She was gifted a camera by her daughter who just wanted her mother to be a bit less bored, and Cameron went on to create over 3000 astonishing photographs that are at the core of the pictorialist movement. She was also INCREDIBLY well acquainted of her society. I mean, literally every famous victorian person you can think of, she met them. The majority of famous photographs you can think of? She took them. She was very honest about her work too. Its really endearing because Cameron was so concerned about her own honesty in capturing beauty she didn't give a fuck about the actual mechanics, which resulted in a lot of photographers at the time labelling her "an amateur". She also refused to photograph high society folk that weren't her friends, and mostly photographed her maids. It must be said that Alfred Lord Tennyson absolutely DESPISED every single illustration made for his Idylls of the King, so much artists knew they were in for hell if they were commissioned the book's illustrations. Cameron was the only person Tennyson personally asked to illustrated, and he absolutely adored her work.
Hannah Hoch. I love Dada so it couldn't miss. Hannah Hoch was married to uhhhhh... Huesekbeck I think? I keep forgetting. Either way, she was part of the Berlin Dada group, and they gave her hell for being a woman. Yes, it's nothing short of that: they didn't want her to belong because she was a woman. Especially her husband, who she supported throughout his life and then he died and she was like "lmao maybe you should have made good art, my bitch". Hannah Hoch mostly makes collages, and it's incredible. Its a very poignant work about being a woman in post-Weimar Germany and the societal issues Germany faced after World War I.
Claude Cahun. There's a post I made about her going around so I wont prolong myself but essentially, though she used female pronouns throughout her life, she identified herself as androgynous and created an INCREDIBLE set of photographs. She was a surrealist who became the inspiration for Davie Bowie and Andre Breton lauded this woman breathless. She was also arrested for taking part in the resistance against the Nazis and lived her whole life with another woman who was her partner. Her work focuses tremendously on issues of gender and our perception of our own bodies.
Camille Claudel. Infamously, she is known as Rodin's lover. Camille's story is a very tragic one. She was a tremendously talented sculptor who accumulated patrons throughout her life, and though she had an a rough affair with Rodin (and he was a bit of a dick), he did praise her work and tried very hard to preserve her artwork. The issue was Camille's family, who scorned her and shamed her for being an artist and her life choices, and destroyed a lot of her art after sticking her in a mental institution where she died at like, 70. But Camille's work is... Well, it's beautiful. Its the kind of work you can see that conflict between being a woman in her society while desperate to liberate herself. Though she incorporates Rodin's language, she has her own mark, her own hand, and her own language.
Janet Sobel. She is actually the first person to coin, use and employ the technique of dripping. You know, the one Pollock gets all the praise for? Essentially, Janet Sobel was a grandmother by the time she picked up a paintbrush. She was also a ukranian emigrant with little to no english, and she engaged in art at her son's insistence. When her son Sol Sobel brought his mom's artwork to the major New York circles (she lived in New Jersey), she immediately caught the eye of Peggy Guggenheim, who put together a collective exhibition about female abstract expressionist painters. That exhibition was in 1946. Pollock was there, he msde a remark wbout Sobel's work, and in 1947 you have the first Pollock dripping painting. Do with that information what you will (and also, check for photos of how Sobel painted, it's so adorable and it just explains SO MUCH MORE THE CONCEPT OF ACTION PAINTING THAN POLLOCK). Eventualyl, Sobel stopped painting and disappeared, and there are several factors as to why we forgot her: Pollock was the CIA's bad boy, so yeah; she spoke little english (she befriended Marc Chagall and Mark Rothko bc they both spoke russian and they claimed that being with Sobel felt like being back home) and she developed an allergy to oil painting.
Maria Helena Vieira da Silva. We're moving to the french circle here, and yes she is portuguese but she belongs to the french post modernist circle. She's an abstract painter who draws a lot from cityscapes, and I think it's worth taking a look at her work.
Niki de Saint Phalle. Now Niki is incredible. She's mostly known for her Nanas, which are immense outdoors sculptures of women with thick bodies, defying the notion of slenderness imposed by fashion magazines that prevailed in the 50s. She also engages with her own trauma of sexual abuse and explores the notion of sexuality a lot, as well as women's bodies outside the realm of sexuality. At a given point, she collaborated with Jean Tingely a lot so she made a series of kinetic sculptures too.
Martha Rosler. I know you said painting and sculpture and I've already talked about collage lmao but Martha Rosler belongs to the first wave of feminist art and those mostly concern video art, though Rosler is very well known for her collages Bringing the War Home in which she literally brings the Vietnam war home. It's worth looking at her work.
Ana Mendieta. Another tragic story. Ana Mendieta was incredibly worried about the notion of the female body as perceived outside the realm of something sexual and nature. She works a lot with perishable material, works of art that are organic, that is, that will disappear with time. One of her most well known methods is leaving an imprint of her own body on natural surfaces, like a beach, or a field of grass, and then photographing it. Ironically, that was exactly how she died: she fell off I believe it was a 10th floor and onto the hood if a car. There is still speculation about it and everything points towards there having been a fight between her and her partner at the time, Carl Andre, who neighbours believe pushed her out the window. Carl Andre never saw justice and Ana Mendieta died at like 25 years old and at the prime of her career.
Kara Walker. She's a pretty young artist who's creating artworks as we speak and she confronts the notion of blackness with US history so blatantly it becomes monumental. She also makes large scale works to defy this message. If you ask me, she's one of the best artists living today.
Hilma af Klimt. She was a Swedish abstractionist and surrealist who was really focused on the occult, and made monumental paintings that engaged with things like the human psyche.
Lizzie Siddal. Now, Lizzie is better known as the Pre-Raphaelite muse, immortalised in Millais' famous Ophelia, but she was an artist of her own. And not just any artist. John Ruskin tutored her and praised her. In fact, he considered her biggest flaw being her love affair with Rossetti lmao she is very naive and honest about her work, and I would also recommend taking a look at her poetry.
Eleonor Fortescue-Brickdale. I know very little about her, but she was a post pre-raphaelite illustrator who, and this is just me, follows the trend of Julia Margaret Cameron. Her paintings are beautiful and seriously, look at both their work and try to see the similarities hah
Helen Frankenthaler and Joan Mitchell, two abstract expressionists who developed their own mode of painting and who border the Colour Field Painting (think Rothko).
Tamara de Lempicka. She's the glamour gal. She makes paintings about the glamorous life of high society and is very interesting because she depicts female nudes in a very intimate way. If I am not mistaken, Tamara de Lempicka had relationships with women, so that tells you a lot. She's very cubist in technique, more so than style.
Faith Ringgold. Oh my God, Faith Ringgold is fantastic. She is a black american woman who paints about the experience of being a black woman, but not just paint. She's best known for her Tar Beaches series, which as quilts she stitches while telling the story of a little girl who dreams about a world while spending time on her tar beach, which is the rooftops of the buildings in Harlem. Please do check her work, she is fantastic.
I'll leave well known names out because they are easy to search like Frida Kahlo, Artemisa Gentilleschi, Josefa d'Obidos, Sofonisba Anguissola (these three are located in the late renaissance period, so there's a lot of portraits, religious themes and still life), Mary Cassat, Berthe Morisot (both impressionists who focus on private female themes), Rosa Bonheur (naturalist who makes landscapes mostly), Evelyn de Morgan (post pre-raphaelite). Also check Zinaida Serebriakova, Georgia O'Keeffe, Lavinia Fontana, Louise Bourgeois, Angelika Kauffmann, Elisabetta Sirani, Romaine Brooks, Sophie Tauber-Arp, Varvara Stepanova, Paula Rego, Bridget Riley, Leonora Carrington, Vigée le Brun, Yayoi Kusama, Francesca Woodman. Etc. These are like .. top of my head with a quick google search to make sure I wrote the names right haha

so, the batman
positives
loved that it was a detective movie, can’t believe it took Detective Comics Comics this long to make a fucking detective movie with their character World’s Greatest Detective
loved how they characterised gotham, they nailed the Feel of the city
loved their batman. he’s still traumatised, he’s clearly fucked up, he deeply cares about his city and you can see how much he equates gotham to his parents. they nailed the “prince of gotham” aspect of bruce basically having inherited ‘trying to save the city’ from his parents when they died (which tdk also did, but then they forgot to make bruce care about gotham lmao)
loved how closely batman works with the police (being present at crime scenes and all) despite him not trusting them (except for gordon) and them not trusting him (except for gordon). tbh probably my favourite on-screen gordon ever
loved that they actually gave selina a storyline! AND A GIRLFRIEND!!!!!!!!!!! and then killed the girlfriend which was less nice
(i’ve seen people criticising her for not caring enough about annika bc she immediately moves on to bruce, but almost everything she does through the movie is motivated by annika having gone missing/dying. she attempts murder for her ffs. bruce was clearly just a rebound)
loved the early-on batcat vibes, it’s not some deep everlasting love (yet) but they work together well and get along well despite some conflicting morals (also zoë kravitz hot)
i liked that he made mistakes. a girl that also stayed behind for the kind-of-post-credits-scene was talking about how she didn’t like how weak they made him, but it’s just year two. he may know how to do things in theory, but he hasn’t figured all of them out in practice yet, and that’s ok! he doesn’t have to be hypercompetent from the start!
(i’ll admit his hypercompetence was one of the few things i genuinely enjoyed in batman begins, but that trilogy was very much about fanboy wish-fulfillment, while this universe seems focused on humanising him, and i actually enjoy both approaches even if for different reasons)
loved that we were very much in bruce’s head and first-hand witnesses to how fucking unhinged his mind is
someone said they’ve never seen a batman so desperately ready for/in need of a robin and i very much agree. really hope dick is in the sequel
negatives
didn’t understand why they changed martha’s surname from kane to arkham????????? it had no purpose and it was just confusing since anyone who knows anything about batman hears arkham and immediately thinks of the asylum. thought it was gonna be a plot point or something, but no
don’t think working in the waynes into the riddler’s plan worked at all tbh. as the arkham thing, it was confusing and led nowhere. like ‘omg they were corrupt! no wait they’re not. omg maroni killed them! no it was falcone! no wait we don’t actually know. omg the riddler knows bruce is batman! no wait he actually doesn’t’. even alfred and the bomb had 0 narrative impact. he was totally fine in the end, his absence didn’t hinder batman in any way, and it didn’t lead to any emotional payoff with bruce (he should’ve called him a great father on the hospital scene and i will die mad about it). even the manor was fine i guess bc there was some random lady who also worked there??? (i’m not used to seeing other staff at the manor so it was a bit of a whiplash when she first appeared ngl)
bruce not knowing spanish annoyed me a bit, but it was lampshaded by the penguin so i’m gonna let it pass (edit: this post made me more ok with it)
if their batman was great, their bruce wayne was mediocre at best. he doesn’t even make an effort with wayne enterprises, and he doesn’t fucking do any philanthropy??????? hello??????????? whose mans is this???????? you literally gave twitter bluechecks the material they always wanted to base their lukewarm ‘uhh has bruce wayne tried to invest in the city lol’ takes on!!!!!!!!!
AND WHERE WAS BRUCIE, I DEMAND TO SEE THE BATMAN PRETENDING TO BE A HIMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!! if balebats was way too far on the playboy end of the scale, battinson is way over on the other side (batfleck and gotham!bruce were the perfect balance and i miss them SO MUCH). like, i very much agree bruce is an emo weirdo, but he doesn’t let it show! his public persona is as important as his actual mask, and he’s smart enough to know this since his early years! he doesn’t go around (or not go around, as it is) looking like he’s in danger of saying “in case you haven’t noticed, i’m weird. i’m a weirdo. i don’t fit in, and i don’t want to fit in. have you ever seen me without this stupid raccoon makeup on? that’s weird!” at any given moment
(also his hair was ugly and when he appeared shirtless both me and my aunt laughed bc god that man is a twig. they bulked him up so much in the costume it’s honestly hilarious)
and i absolutely didn’t enjoy the ?fourth? act of the film. it should’ve ended with the vans exploding and left the rest for the sequel. or at least figured out a less drastic result for the riddler’s plans, i mean, they started a no man’s land thing and then cut it halfway through???? like, hate to praise tdk, but at least they had the sense to make their nml-inspired plot 1. not happen in the first film 2. be the central disaster to be solved in the third act
and that scene with the road flare was so weirdly paced. all that slow motion and dramatic staring and For What. like, i know what it was supposed to mean in theory (hears the incel shooter use his ‘i’m vengeance’ line and realises he’s sending the wrong message, so he goes down to help rescue the people because that’s what batman should be about!!1!), and it was visually beautiful and all, but. again, SO weirdly paced.
(plus, the 'you’re sending the wrong message’ thing had already gone through in that scene in arkham where eddie boy is going on about how We’re Not So Different You And I - and even the ‘i’m vengeance’ line could’ve easily been included there - so i really don’t know why they felt the need to double down with the incel shooter)
(but i appreciate mr matt reeves paying an homage to the greatest teen wolf episode ever, 3x06: motel california, and even going as far as casting the twins in this film, what a dedicated fan)
also i hate that robert pattinson looks SO MUCH like a friend of mine, whom i’ve known since i was 4, and i have to put up with the entire internet thirsting after him. again.
final thoughts
great batman, meh bruce, good movie. definitely would’ve been better with batfleck and i will never forgive joss whedon for (among a lot of other things) taking this from me. my aunt joked that in the end zoë left to go after aquaman so he could help with the flood and i haven’t stopped laughing since.

Oh, can you do the “show/movie/fandom and I’ll tell you" thing with DM, GX, and 5D’s? :3
*CRACKS KNUCKLES* SURE CAN!!! I also love talking about the OG3.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters
my favorite female character: THE DANCING QUEEN, ANZU MAZAKI!
my favorite male character: Yugi Muto!! But Jounouchi is def a close second.
my favorite book/season/etc: ok if we’re excluding filler arcs, then it’s hands-down the Pharaoh’s Memory arc. But if we’re including them, the KCGP arc will always be my fave arc of YGO DM and y’all can’t change my mind. That arc was so much fun and such a breath of fresh air after Doma lmao.
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): ugh there are so many... Kaiba helping out Yami in that duel with that Kaiba lookalike Player Killer... Yami vs that Panic guy (I forget his Japanese name lmao)... when Yugi suggested that he and Yami switch places to confuse Pegasus...Jounouchi vs Kajiki....Jounouchi vs Espa Roba....when Aknamkanon showed up from the spirit world to protect his son...when Yugi used Gandora for the first time...that final part of the battle against Zorc when Atem remembers his name....when Yugi defeated the Egyptian God cards... lmao.
my favorite cast member: Kenjirou Tsuda hands down lmao. His performance as Kaiba? Excellent.
my favorite ship: Puzzleshipping!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a character I’d die defending: Yugi Muto. And Anzu Mazaki.
a character I just can’t sympathize with: Yami Bakura? Like the fandom is absolutely enamored with this guy and I’m like “??? but why.”
a character I grew to love: Seto Kaiba lmao. I legit hated him when I was a kid. And then I grew up and basically realized I grew up to be English dub Seto Kaiba so ya know that’s cool.
my anti otp: It’s a ship I actually used to like, but Puppyshipping (Seto Kaiba x Jounouchi). Like after my DM rewatch, I just can’t get on that ship anymore lmao. Also I have other “anti-OTPs” from DM, but that’s the only one at the top of my head atm.
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
my favorite female character: Rei Saotome tbh lmao. Even tho I really don’t talk about her a lot, but she’s just such a gem.
my favorite male character: MARUFUJI SHO!!!!! So proud of this boy.
my favorite book/season/etc: The latter half of S1 tbh. Like, all the other seasons are chill and all (tho I have problems with S4 lmao), but the latter half of S1 was definitely my fave. I do plan on rewatching GX in the near future tho (since I’ve only actually seen it all the way through once), so that might change.
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): hey remember when Jim Crocodile Cook saved Yuki Judai and therefore YGO GX? ‘cause I sure as hell do. Thank u Jim.
my favorite cast member: KENN KENN KENN KENN KENN. Also Taiki Matsuno was a gem as Manjoume too.
my favorite ship: SPIRITSHIPPING!!!!!
a character I’d die defending: Manjoume Jun. Marufuji Shou. Rei Saotome. yeah.
a character I just can’t sympathize with: that Cobra guy? yeah fuck him. also Darkness with his ugly ass face can take a hike.
a character I grew to love: Manjoume Jun tbh lmao. I remember when GX first aired, I really couldn’t stand this guy. But then, when I actually watched GX properly for the first time two years ago (it’s been two years already....damn....), I dunno. I saw him differently and decided I really liked him lmao.
my anti otp: Judai x Asuka. No. Just. No no no no. No thank you.
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s (MY FAVE!!!!!)
my favorite female character: Izayoi Aki, the Black Rose Queen
my favorite male character: I mean, I’m sure it doesn’t need to be said, but I’m gonna say it anyway: CROW HOGAN-SAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my favorite book/season/etc: The Dark Signer arc yo. Tho the Ark Cradle arc is a REAL close second.
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): BUT I HAVE SO MANY LMAO!!!! Let’s see...
Pre-Fortune Cup Arc: when Yusei beat Himuro Jin (that pro-duelist dude) using Yanagi’s deck and they became bros. But then 5D’s forgot about that rip.
Fortune Cup Arc: Yusei vs Aki was top-notch. “YOU HAVE TO THINK FOR YOURSELF.” gets me every time.
Dark Signer Arc: Crow-sama’s debut episode, Dr. Fudo’s debut episode, Crow-sama vs Bommer, Yusei vs Kiryu R2, Jack vs Carly, that episode where Divine gets eaten God bless, that episode where Crow-sama was like “even if our life points are at 1, our hopes are at 10,000 points.” yeah.
Pre-WRGP Arc: “I came to fix something called a Heitmann.”, that episode where Yusei got kidnapped and Aki took things into her own hands, the episode where chibi Crow-sama became official, THE ENTIRE CRASHTOWN ARC
WRGP Arc: CUP RAMEN MAN CROW-SAMA!!!!!!, when Crow-sama decided to avenge Aki after she crashed like he did (MY HEART!!!!), Crow-sama vs Brave, Yusei vs Harald, Yusei vs Jose/Aporia
Ark Cradle Arc: Crow-sama and Aki vs Sherry, Aporia vs Z-ONE, Yusei vs Z-ONE (especially the episode where Dr. Fudo gave the slap that could be heard in the next dimension lmao)
my favorite cast member: SHINTARO ASANUMA!!!!! also Miyashita Yuya, Takanori Hoshino (especially with all the episodes Jack talked about CUP RAMEN!!! like kudos dude) and Ayumi Kinoshita.
my favorite ship: I’m a hardcore Firebird (Crow-sama x Aki) shipper at this point so it’s my current top ship lmao. But, I also love Yusei x Bruno, Jack x Carly, Jack x Kazama, Crow-sama x Brave, and Yusei x Kiryu tho.
a character I’d die defending: Crow Hogan-sama, Izayoi Aki, Ruka, and Yusei lmao
a character I just can’t sympathize with: DIVINE CAN BURN IN THE FIRES OF HELL!!!!! also I don’t care much for Zora and Leo either like they were so annoying. how is Martha friends with such annoying people I don’t get it.
a character I grew to love: many, MANY characters fall under this category, but one character is definitely Carly Nagisa. She drove me nuts with her Jack obsession when I first watched 5D’s, but then the duel with Divine happened and . . . yeah.
my anti otp: I really don’t hate this ship as much as I used to thanks to my 5D’s rewatch, but...... F//aithshipping. It was a perfectly fine ship in the Fortune Cup and Dark Signer arcs, but then 5D’s continued on after that and any implication of the ship just made me want to cry. of sadness. b/c it was SO FORCED!!!!
THANK U FAM!!!!!

Okay, I just rewatched the first episode of Gotham! Here are some thoughts that I remember thinking in no particular order.
Baby Selina!
Baby Bruce!
I kind of wish we had gotten more time with Thomas and Martha because it would’ve been interesting to see how exactly Bruce changes after their deaths.
I forgot how chilling it is to see Bruce’s parents get murdered. I mean, the way he screams at the end gave me goosebumps.
Lmao, I forgot how much Jim and Harvey hated each other before they became true friends.
The way Jim goes to comfort Bruce makes my heart ache. Like, obviously reliving the traumatic memory hurts him, but he does it to get Bruce to open up.
Sarah Essen! Missed you girl! It was a real shame that she died. Truly a good woman.
Montoya and Allen, you two left the show as fast as you came in! Seriously though, they just disappeared later on.
Not gonna lie, Season One Barbara and Jim were kinda cute. I can’t wait for Lee to come in, though.
I can’t remember, but did we ever get to find out Barbara and Montoya’s full story?
I love Fish! I don’t care what anyone says, she could stab me in the throat and I’d tell her that I love her!
Baby Penguin!
The fact that Harvey goes to save Jim, even after he told him to let it go is just *chefs kiss*. Really laying down the groundwork for their epic bromance.
I forgot how much I hated Falcone.
Okay, how the fuck is Oswald stupid enough to snitch? Like, you’re obviously gonna get found out. Still love you, though.
Bruce saying that he’s trying to conquer fear makes me feel things inside. Baby!
Alfred is so fucking snarky, I love him! Underrated badass!
Man, I forgot how much I loved this crazy show!

has like 4 half-siblings and 2 step-siblings and doesn’t get along with any of them bc that’s malena 4 you.
(one of her step-siblings is actually her half-sister NOT her step-sister bc malena’s dad and her step/half-sister’s mom were banging each other while they were still married. she doesn’t know this yet but regardless it’s fine everything is FINE)
( listen... malena’s relationship with her step/half-sister is actually deeply tragic to me and i adore both of them dearly - the  step/half-sister has known the truth for a couple years now but kept it to herself because shes that kind of person - she’s good to the core and she’s been carrying this secret all by herself. she’s been trying very hard to have a relationship with malena ... sadly malena isn’t being very helpful. )
malena worked as an assistant to a wedding planner for two years. didn’t hate it. nobody believes it and she doesn’t particularly care.
genuinely good, kind, and nonjudgmental people are people malena low-key admires and looks up to. if one of them becomes her friend, she’ll literally fight for them if it comes down to it. honestly malena’s self-preservation is very very high so when she does let someone in she’s 1000% ride or die for them.
people have the tendency to just.... open up to her / talk to her and she doesn’t know why!!!!!!!!!!!! she doesn’t even ask them anything she’s not even nice !!!!!!!!!!!! stop this nonsense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bc then she starts low-key getting invested
she always feels the need to defend/prove herself. basically, she never learned how to express herself in a healthy/normal way. she misjudges people's intentions and words more often than she should, but she's always so worried about protecting herself that she can't help it. also she has pretty impulsive knee-jerk reactions when it comes to any kind of abuse/bullying.
malena isn't a commitment-phobe; she's a repressed hopeless romantic in denial and she's been that way all her life but she only started truly realising it a couple of years back. she low-key wants to be showered in love and be able to love someone like that in return, but she's cultivated an image of herself that's incompatible with this. she has always worn her individualism as a kind of weapon and she’s conditioned to associate backtracking with weakness, so, yeah, she's been struggling with living for herself as opposed to the image people have of her.
i'm sure she's still on good terms/friends with some of the people she's gotten involved with in the past because she really isn't a petty person in this regard. (pseudo-)exs on good terms, (pseudo-)exs on bad terms, messy relationships, flings, something else entirely... i'm open to all things.
literally every relationship or pseudo relationship she’s been in has been a shit show. often comical. still a shit show.  (like that time she dated a guy who was in a long distance relationship and he literally forgot he had a gf. or that time she got involved with some sort of bruce wayne wannabe. or that time she dated a violinist - violinists have.. issues stay tf away from them. or that time she dated an indie movie director who was an absolute mess of a person. fun fucking times!!!!!!)
started sleeping with her boss and may or may not have feelings for him.......... and he just found out he has a kid from an ex ....... a 13 year old kid..........please kill her
*EVELYN /  late 30S or 40S  / actress probably amy adams or rose byrne if she’s not taken difficulty to fit in a wanted ad: mid-high
was adopted around age 10 by some rich couple who really only adopted so they could get extra brownie points within their circle of friends…… but they didn’t want to adopt a baby because that’s just too much work ya know? this doesn’t mean that evelyn wasn’t loved because she was - she is - and honestly her parents never demanded any more or less of her than they did of their other biological children. her brother(s) often joke that she’s actually the favourite child because she never had a rebellious phase and she’s always been extremely appreciative of her parents.
(she has a sister who is 5 years younger - they were put up in dif foster homes and... it’s complicated. evelyn could have fought for being closer to her sister but didn’t, primarily because she was told her sister had a better chance of getting adopted - especially if she was lone. they haven’t seen each other in over two decades if my math is correct)
took like, a bunch of extracurricular yet somehow never fucking learnt how to swim
very polite and politically correct, one of those people with perfect posture. pleasant to be around but doesn’t socialise or share a lot about herself and her life which can really make her seem either fake and/or stuck-up and/or too serious -  actually just very shy by nature.
she’s often misunderstood by people who don’t know her well, or by journalists who don’t actually take the time to sit down and talk to her.
some people probably think she bought her career but 1) her parents are rich, snobbish, and pretentious but they literally couldn’t care less about the entertainment industry tbh & 2) they’d never buy their children a career bc they believe that if you want something you work hard to get it
her career is a mixture of amy adam’s and jessica chastain’s.
the parts she picks are all very carefully chosen (and lbh when she first started she could afford to do this bc it’s not like she had to worry about money even tho her parents weren’t exactly supporting her). she probably started being credited in movies while she was still at college, but they were very small parts. it took her a long time to break-out because did a lotttt of theater at first but the parts she picked were always those small/supporting roles you know will lead you to the big ones one day and that’s exactly what happened. for those who didn’t follow her career she seemingly just.... showed up out of nowhere and jumped straight into the spotlight but she was like 32 when this happened and already had several movies under her belt.
her fiancé cheated on her one time and it’s a whole ordeal bc everyone has a god damn opinion about it but it’s... complex. the cheating was obviously all his fault but there was a lot of miscommunication happening and now... now she’s the one not cooperating. it’s very angsty and there’s lots of ups and downs and very happy moments and extremely sad moments (and they might end up taking a break at some point) and everything is a thousand times worse when your life is splashed in the front page of magazines. they do love each other very much, and that kind of makes everything worse. i have a whole plot written for it lmao
*GAVIN / MID OR 30S / firefighter or cook or smth else open fc difficulty to fit in a wanted ad:   mid
As a kid Gavin had a massive attitude problem and serious unresolved issues, but once he was determined to get over them he never looked back.
He was never a genuinely bad person, it’s just that the environment in which he was raised, especially in his teens, gave him a very wrong idea of how a person, especially a boy from his social class, should go about in the world and conditioned him to act in a certain way. Even if he did help around the house a lot (honestly he was kind of a fiona gallagher in a way) he was raised (not by his family in particular but the community as a whole) with a very stereotypical notion of what boys are supposed to act like. I don’t think he ever thought too much of it, if it was right or wrong or just plain backyards thinking, it was just his reality.
He went through three decisive moments which essentially shaped his life. The first one was his mother’s death, he was around 7 and he processed it the way a young boy raised in the environment he was raised in would, plus he had a slightly older brother and it was easy to just follow his footsteps. Close as they were, their bonding was often over the wrong things or in the wrong way, and while they were already close as young children after their mother’s death they became even closer and that was also the time they started taking the art of being troublemakers to another level.
The second one was not going to college. He made it there, and on a scholarship (and he was a year younger than most of his peers and all because he got into high school a year earlier), but pretty much blew that and just walked away back home. For a while, particularly while he was trying to get his shit together, this was a part of his past that deeply disturbed him and he beat himself up about it constantly but eventually he reached the conclusion that stupid as his actions were they got him where he is, so he sort of feels like it just had to happen.
The third one was his eldest brother’s death. He died in a bar fight, or more accurately after it, and Gavin was there and he was involved. His brother’s passing really made him go off the deep end - extremely bad decisions were made during that time and a couple of those landed him in juvie. Even though that’s obviously not a good thing to have on your CV, or to just share with anyone let’s be honest, it truly the only time in his life where he seriously acted out, crashed, and then was able to evaluate himself, and angry as he was when he initially got there, being surrounded by people who had done worse things than him only made him realize that their situations and futures weren’t things he wanted for himself - they weren’t things he wanted to conform himself to.
Easier said (or thought) than done, however. He didn’t have any money of his own when he got out, nor did he have proper support, and on top of all of the things he had left on hold prior to going to juvie his half-sister also started getting herself into serious trouble. It’s not easy to get out of the place in which he was raised, either you’re lucky or risk it all or the circumstances just aren’t in your favor and no one is really rooting for you. He had some street debts to pay (both his and his brother’s), he had actual bills to help paying… it just wasn’t a good situation.
So he got a job and spent years just trying to do what he had to do to get people off his back (and it was around during this period that he started cooking at one of his jobs in a shitty joint). When he was 22/23 he nearly landed himself in jail because of his half-sister - at that point she was really young, she didn’t have a record and he didn’t want her to mess up her life so early on and potentially in such a permanent manner. Luckily he got away with community service (and his service included working with food). His half-sister apologized to him a lot, and she was thankful, but she didn’t really do anything to change her behavior. This whole affair was essentially his final drop; he was absolutely done with that whole environment and his situation, and he realised that he needed to go elsewhere, do or try something else, because if he stayed as much as he wanted to turn his life around it wasn’t going to happen.
Currently lives with a coworker but for a while he lived with an old acquaintance who used to be extremely close to his eldest brother (and by extremely close I mean, more than friends extremely close) and who was still up to his old tricks but he was very welcoming and didn’t bother Gavin in the least. Plus they had opposite schedules which Gavin found perfect because for most of the time he felt like the place was his alone (which was extremely important because it gave him time and space to develop and better himself as an individual).
He’s just a guy living his life not thinking too much about things or worrying about the future. He doesn’t trust easily though and he’s often suspicious of people’s intentions.
PS: low-key really want a “we had a crappy blind date and ended up just having sex and it’s been about a month and i just got a text from u and wait what you’re pregnant??” plot for him

if hogwarts was real, she'd have been sorted into slytherin (which is obvs a v important detail).
she's the legal guardian of her niece and nephew. she had a twin sister who died she and her husband nominated her as legal guardian of the kids - she's still learning how to handle/process this.
(she... never liked being a twin, she actually hated it and she and her twin lead every different lives, but now that her twin is gone it’s... it’s odd and she’s dealing with it the best she can. she feels guilty in a way even tho she obvs knows their death was not her fault in any way)
she’s force of nature; a very well presented cocktail of audacity, resourcefulness, energy, and confidence. she likes to think she's just staying in her lane doing her thing but she's def likes to know what's going on and if you ask for her opinion you're certainly going to get an honest answer ¯\_(ツ)_/.
honestly she totally is a "when life gives you lemons...." person: sociable, determined, headstrong, practical, outgoing, super confident, unapologetic... she can be kind of selfish and pig-headed sometimes, and she does have trouble backing away from challenges... those are two of her big flaws. she doesn't like to depend on anything or anyone and she's afraid of investing in things that will lead nowhere
when she was a teen she occasionally often made questionable life choices... altho lbh she still does, although not as often and probably not as questionable.
she's engaged (i don't know exactly how long it's been, but it hasn't been over four years), but she's definitely dated/seen other people in the past. her current relationship aside, she likely was never in any long-term/serious relationships, but if you have ideas feel free to share because honestly i live for pre-established character connections and #drama/angst.
*VALENTINA / mid30S / idk  probably diane guerrero if she’s not taken difficulty to fit in a wanted ad:   mid
a bit of a shy child, her parents immigrated to wales when she was 6. struggled a lot but never once complained - she was young, but old and skewed enough to realize that if her parents were leaving so much behind it was out of necessity not desire.
her younger sister was only one year old when the family moved to wales (so she grew up surrounded by english culture and fully embracing it - way too much, at times), her older brother, who got to spend his 9th anniversary in a small and damp house surrounded by no friends and family other than his parents and sisters, gave their parents a very hard time by becoming moody and picking fights.
unlike many middle children, valentina didn't suffer from middle child syndrome - she didn't have the time to, anyway. when she wasn't struggling with her social life and the english language, she spent her time devouring books, cautiously exploring the city, taking care of her sister, and making sure her brother stayed out of trouble (and, later on, making sure that her sister stayed out of trouble as well).
her father died when she was 15 - he'd been feeling ill for a couple months, but it was a shock all the same. valentina and her brother had been arguing a lot then (for a variety of, primarily mundane, reasons) and their father's passing only made it worse.
with her husband's death, valentina's mothes decided that she owned it to his memory to be a little braver - life is short after all - and about a year later she ended up meeting a guy who............. was not.............. a good person...................... but he was comfortable in life and she liked him and she thought he could help her give her children an education etc etc etc
it started with microaggressions and then not so micro ones and the next thing she knew her brother was getting smacked for lack of respect. it wasn't the first nor the last time it happened, and at one point or the other everyone got to experience what the palm of his hand felt like against their cheek or the feeling of his long fingers wrapping tightly around their arm - she got her first bruise for speaking spanish.
her brother’s girlfriend at the time was an absolute angel who helping out and with the help of her family they managed to have him kicked out in Easter. valentina's brother's girlfriend and her family offering their own house as a place for them to stay for as long as they wish.
anyway she goes to college and she’s ends up studying abroad for a while and on her first day back, she walks into her home and is greeted by a man she's never seen before - her sister popping up from the kitchen with a smile, casually and cheerfully explaining the situation. valentina knows, even before she puts her bag down, that this will end poorly. he sounds charming at first but she's met charming men like him before, and when she asks him to leave it's when he starts showing his true colours (she's not shocked in the least but she is, in a way, surprised that he put up such a poor fight and that it took so little time for him to snap). she ends up with a black eye and a bruised cheek, he ends up in the hospital. her sister promises her it was the last time.
her current job as a diplomat is one she loves - she had a good mentor too, which helped - but she never dreamed that she'd end up where she is today - she could never have, it was a dream that was so unfathomable it never even existed - and even though she has always worked hard she never even worked to have the life she has, not exactly. she never did anything with any goals in particular in mind. her only goals were always to make her parents proud and not to become a statistic.
optional: she’s in an unofficial love/hate relationship with either a journalist or another diplomat from another country and it’s.... complicated and angsty af

Owen /  idk  / idk open fc
there was never anything special about owen, and (although it often made him jealous that his brother was more outgoing and less anxious) - he was just a regular middle class boy and he never felt the strong desire to be any other way.
when he was in junior year he got into a car accident with his brother - the two were arguing about something stupid and the car swerved off the lane. since then, owen lives with chronic back-pain and his demeanor has changed significantly. he’s less approachable and more grumpy, in addition, he dropped out of college because of his anxiety which is something he’s very ashamed off.
"eliza” (might switch to  a male character) /  idk  / idk open fc
✈ eliza was brought up in lower-class family in a lower middle class neighborhood. her childhood wasn’t crappy, her parents weren’t abusive, and she always had clean clothes and food on the table (sometimes it was hard, and the family certainly didn’t splurge, but her basic necessities were almost always met). neither of her parents finished college - her father dropped out and her mother didn’t even make it to college because her family didn’t have enough money to put her through it.
✈ eliza’s father, brian, is a first generation immigrant, her mother, karen, was born and raised in colorado. the two went to the same high school and that’s where they met and dated for a solid year before breaking up. they reconnected later (when they were in their mid 20s) at a mall where eliza’s mother was waiting tables and her father worked as a security guard. the truth about eliza's parents is that they clung to one another: the don’t hate each other, but they don’t love each other either, they never did. they stayed together primarily out of fear and concern that nothing better would come along - because it was convenient. they’re both people who could have gotten much further in life than what they did and, in many aspects, this is one thing that has always deeply bothered eliza. they never tried, they never pushed themselves, they never did anything for things to go any other way than the way they did. their conformism and apathy are two things eliza has always detested, and a part of her still holds this against them.
✈ growing up, eliza was very aware that she didn’t look like most people around her. in both pre-school and middle-school she was the only multiracial child. throughout her early years and teenage-hood comments and questions about, primarily, her eyes and parents were heard often - some innocent and curious, others less so. she’s not a stranger to maliciousness, bullying, and the direct consequences of ignorance, and saying that none of it never effected her would be a lie. her different looks and lack of monetary means always made her feel like she was at a disadvantage and she often felt jealous of her classmates and friends - of both their looks and possessions. not feeling comfortable to discuss these thoughts and feelings with anyone, eliza got used to process them by herself. this is something she still does to this day - she’ll seldom ask for one’s advice or input, and if she does, it’s because she truly values it. slowly and steadily, she began to use her insecurities as both a shield and a weapon - as ways of motivating her to move forward in her life, change what she could and make peace with what she couldn’t.
✈ her parents were extremely proud when she was accepted to not one but three medical schools. she was glad but their pride didn't feel like much. she didn't do it for them or with their help, it was all by her for her (besides, her father's inability to get an education and honor his parents efforts to pursue a better life is something that has never sit well with eliza, so his opinion concerning her education isn't one she ever valued a lot). money was a real concern but eliza took care of that all by herself as well: her good grades granted her a partial scholarship and throughout her years as as student she kept a job or two (even in summers). it wasn't easy, but nothing ever came easy to eliza, she never relied on easy - she was focused and determined and she knew exactly what she had to do to get where she wanted to.
✈ while eliza has always felt like she's the only person in control of her life, she's also always been well aware that, as a child and teenager, she was never someone who could afford to dwell on options and choose whatever she fancied the most. she either took what came along and made the most of it, or had to stay objective and practical. choosing to study medicine was a combination of all of those. it was practical, she didn't dislike it, it gave her good career prospects, and it was also an homage to her paternal grandparents - her grandfather was a doctor before he immigrated and her grandmother always talked about she wanted to have become a 'brain doctor'. while eliza's grandfather died when she was very young, eliza's grandmother kept all of his notebooks and she took great pleasure in going through them with her granddaughter.
✈ eliza’s main motivation growing up (and, perhaps, even today) was to not turn out like her parents. she doesn’t even consider what they have an actual life because, as far as she’s concerned, they’re exiting and not actually living. it’s frustrating for her, it has always been, especially because their decisions didn’t just affect their own lives but also hers (ie: she could have gone to better schools, lived in a better house, tried different hobbies, etc etc etc). in addition, even though they never accomplished anything significant and are the epitome of conformism, they often feel entitled to have opinions and pass judgment that eliza simply doesn’t tolerate. for instance, they often question her parenting (even before her daughter was born they already questioned whether or not she'd make a good mother, and they still grind her gear about her "handing over" the majority custody to her ex) and they were very vocal about their disapproval of her marriage, and what eliza hates the most and has trouble living with is that almost everything they said happened. (there are times where she finds herself wondering if they were right, not about the obvious things, like that she married too fast, but the little ones, like that deep down she said yes because just like them, scared that nothing better - or nothing at all - will come along.)
✈ she was 27, a surgical resident, and already a mom when she got her right hand's fingers stuck in a car's door. she broke three and ended up with nerve damage that prevents her from making specific gestures with a steady hand. so that, was the end of that. the injury rarely impacts her daily life unless she's like, trying to eat with chopsticks or has to sew something up. she's gotten used to doing a lot of things with her non-dominant hand though.
✈ while defensive and often assertive, eliza isn't someone who likes to argue. it exhausts her beyond words and makes her relive her teenage years and the necessity to always defend and stand up for herself. while she was brought up in a house where it was almost always quiet, she spent a large portion of her early years listening to other people - primarily neighbors - arguing day and night. in addition, at college she shared an apartment with five very loud people who were always squabbling among themselves or with their significant others, which deeply irritated her. when it comes to her home environment and her relationships, she likes them calm and honest. discussions are to be thoughtful and polite, but if you get her going (and especially if you raise your voice to her) it'll turn out poorly - she doesn't back down, it's stronger than her.

NEAL /  mid or late 30S / hockey or football player probably manish dayal if he’s not taken
neal was born to an average middle class family and has two younger sisters. his mom’s a canadian maths teacher and his dad was an english cardiac surgeon who passed away when he was around ten.
he has dual citizenship which is…….. nice
one of his sisters is married and they’re relatively close, the other one got involved in a lot of bad things when she was a teen and it seems that no matter how much help the family provides she can’t move past her issues. neal’s sisters haven’t been in touch with each other for a handful of years now. even though his eldest sister’s decision to cut ties with their younger sister bothered him greatly, he too ended up sort of doing the same thing a couple years down the road when she cleaned his apartment of any valuables. she stills calls asking for money occasionally, which is… complicated.
about two years ago his mom started dating a grandpa she met in aerobics class. he finds the whole thing really weird and vaguely disturbing but just rolls with it.
neal finds that it’s important to have aspirations and goals but it’s even more important to roll with whatever the universe throws at you. life’s weird and ends too soon, the world’s a mess; don’t overthink things, just make the most of your time while you’re here.
he’s definitely not afraid of confrontation but he has no interest in nor patient for it - life’s too short for it in his opinion. he’s that guy that really doesn’t want to get into a fight but then his friend starts it and he’s like “god damn it” and he sticks by their side
he’s not loyal to a fault tho.
even though she’s a very carefree, jovial, and relaxed person, he started to feel the weight of having responsibilities at a very young age (essentially since his father got sick), so he does get weirdly/crazy responsible and all grown-up when it comes to family and work matters, and he can be a bit of a dad with his close friends at times.
that said, he cares… but selectively so, which leads to him acting a little bit like a dick sometimes. he just has a “live and let live” attitude, buckets of self-esteem, and has never been one to spend too much time being sad or mulling things over.
he’s not one to chase after people: if you tell him “no”, he’s not going to hear “win me over”, he’ll literally just be like “k, cheers” and move on.
he’s only been truly in love once and she ended things out of the blue because she couldn’t handle his schedule and exposure & was afraid of commitment. it was gr8!!!!!!!!! totally did not fucking gut him!!!!!!
he’s someone who would really like to settle down for real but at the same time he’s not actively pursuing a serious relationship. most of the girls neal’s gotten involved with… he liked them but he wasn’t in love with them. he doesn’t feign interest, nor does he pretend to feel more than he does, but he likes to have fun and he isn’t going to wait around until ~the one~ comes along to start having fun. he doesn’t play games, he’s very honest about his intentions so if it’s just flirting/sex, you’ll know it. if he feels something more, he’ll tell you. occasionally he’s not being as clear as he thinks he is and that had resulted in some pretty awkward situations.
optional: he got married to an old friend at some point, they had a daughter, and they divorced a year after they got married. the press made a huge deal out of it. it wasn’t. they parted ways amicably and are still very good friends. the reason why they divorced is simply: his wife could tell that while he loved her he didn’t love her as much as he was still hung up on someone else, and she refused to be in a marriage like that.
