Y/n: Yeah well I was drunk and he wasn’t ugly so we started making out or whatever but then I felt a fucking cold, sticky-ass drink go down my back and I turn around and get a slap in the fucking face by some bitch!

Frantz: The bitch being the girlfriend?

Y/n: Yeah! Who the fuck makes out with a girl in the same vicinity as his girlfriend?! Fucking asshole.

Bam: You’re missing out the part where the two of you got into a bitch fight and I had to tear you off of her.

Y/n: Yeah I scratched up that bitches face but only cos she poured a fucking drink on me not because of her scummy boyfriend, she could have his ugly ass.

Raab: Well you made out with him.

thoughts on loki ep 2: the variant (spoilers)

under cut to not disturb your scrolling

Overall I enjoyed so that's good

Uh frick my mind blanked so sorry if things are completely out of order

I don't know, I expected the renaissance fair to be 2012 or 2021 or 2024 (Loki's time, our time, current time in the "sacred timeline"). So I was genuinely surprised when it was in 1985.

Ok, i really like the title card thing. And how the year scrolls around. It's a nice aesthetic touch there.

I wonder why the female Loki variant chooses her locations? Does she have a thing for renaissance fairs, French cathedrals, and Oklahoma?

1985 is when Back to the Future came out. And it's y'know, one of the most popular time travel movies ever. So I think they chose that year as a reference.

Again, not liking that the minutemen only have numbers, not names. It is giving me lots of Clone Wars vibes. If you don't know anything about Clone Wars, the clones are given number identifiers by the Kaminoans. Things like CT-7567. The clones would give themselves names (CT-7567, for example, names himself Rex). A really good sign throughout the series that someone is a sketchy person is if they call the clones by their numbers. The clones don't want to be known as numbers. They are people too, they deserve names, so they come up with all sorts of creative names (Rex, Fives, Cody, Tup, Hevy, Hardcase, Echo, Waxer, Boil, Wolffe, Jesse, Kix, Fox, Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair, Omega, Tech, Matchstick, etc). The jedi respect this, and the only jedi that i can think of that called clones by their numbers is Krell, who fell to the dark side. the Kaminoans and other sketchy people all call them by their numbers and the clones don't like it. A big focus of the show is on the clone's agency (at the end, they all have brain chips that take away their agency and force them to kill jedi), and how the clones need to be respected. So for me to see in another series that people are only given numbers is bad. What's worse is that the minutemen are fine with this. They don't see it as dehumanizing or belittling. They are brainwashed into being okay with it. Which says a thing or two about the Time Keepers.

did. did the renaissance fair really have Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" for their renaissance themed fight? Is this normal? Was it normal in the '80's? We saw later that the female Loki can do electronic stuff. Did she rig it to play it? For the vibes?

Also the stuff before the song was about fighting for a princess, and in the end she kidnaps C-20.

Okay, btw, I'm just gonna say Lady Loki for a while because no one has explicitly said Sylvie yet, so I'm going to refer to di Martino as Loki until she or another calls her Sylvie. Cool? Cool.

I was thinking the "Holding Out for a Hero" fight would be the roomba fight or something. It is such a good song that has huge potential for this genre. Why did they use it in a lame fight as that one?

When Lady Loki did the spell on C-20, it looked similar to what Wanda and Agatha can do. As in, it had similar visuals.

Loki reading a random magazine he finds while sitting with his feet on the desk bored out of his mind because he has to learn sh*t is a MOOD.

What is Miss Minutes? She can jump around anywhere, and pop into computers. But she can't be just a projection. She took the effort to dodge Loki swatting at her, so that may mean she was corporeal. She also could be something similar to the Kree's Supreme Intelligence?

So, did Mobius give Loki the shirt, tie, and slacks, but really didn't give him the jacket until they had to call him in? What? That makes no sense? Did the TVA not have any jackets with the variant label? Did someone have to custom design a jacket for Loki?

What is up with this show giving me things I wanted to see only in holographic form? First we saw Coulson's death, and now Loki in his Jotun form in a holograph of another variant.

Okay, Loki being someone the TVA has to constantly deal with is very on brand. Loki is a creature of chaos, of course he's going to unknowingly rebel against the sacred timeline.

Also, headcanon that the Jotun Loki we see is king of Jotunheim because that would be epic.

Also, for personal reasons I choose to believe there is a Loki variant that defeated the Avengers and immediately went queer rights.

Loki's reaction to there being many Loki variants. He's seen what his life is supposed to be. I think he is even more upset that the TVA often deals with him, that there are so many things that could have been instead if it weren't for the TVA and the "sacred timeline."

Also, I totally think Mobius was waiting for another Loki to show up to help him defeat Lady Loki. They get them so often, it makes sense.

Loki explaining the difference between illusion projection and duplication was great. And very helpful to me personally understanding lore. Also, Mobius, get your crap together. If you're a Loki expert, figure this stuff out.

Loki calling the TVA out on propaganda, we love that.

The wolf quote is actually very nice, I quite like it.

Okay, the TVA doesn't even bury or cremate or do any sort of ritual for their fallen minutemen, they just reset the timeline. Which to me seems like another way to show how little the TVA actually care for their workers.

There are statues of the Time Keepers in Ravonna's office. The camera pays extra attention to it. Keep reading for more about Time Keepers and cinematography choices.

What. What sort of relationship does Ravonna and Mobius have? What is going on there? I am really confused.

Who is this "analyst on the side?" What is going on there?

Ravonna is MEGA SUS. Along with that, the Time Keepers are mega sus.

She signs R. Slayer. Yeah. Slayer. Not at all subtle, Marvel. Letting us know that she'll do the deed if needed.

Mobius you are sending me mixed signals. What do you want?

Okay, Mobius saying Loki was a "cold, scared boy" and an "ice runt" and stuff was totally a jab at Loki being Jotun.

Mobius saying Loki is insecure because of Lady Loki is...probably true.

With the elevator, the camera stops and focuses on the Time Keepers.

The Creation of the TVA, the beginning of time, the end of time, all classified. That is sus.

Loki almost crying over Ragnarok was good. Let him cry over the destruction of his home.

Loki being the one to discover something the TVA had no idea about after a day is on brand for Loki. And it shows how the TVA really are vulnerable.

Mobius: Really? In front of my salad?

No but the object lesson was well done and actually did help me understand what Loki was talking about.

Casey! Casey drinks grape juice! Imagine how confusing this is for Casey though. Loki is captured, threatens to gut you like a fish (whatever that means), and now he's dressed like an analysist, stealing your juice box. Does Loki get Casey more juice?

Honestly, Loki looking at everything logically and scientifically is fantastic. Adds to the science = magic thing Marvel's got going on, since Loki is a sorcerer.

Loki saying volcanoes are cool is fun. I agree. Volcanoes mean the planet is geologically active, which means we won't die. Also, there is a volcano named Loki on one of Jupiter's moons. I wonder if the creators knew that and put Loki in Pompeii because he is already linked with volcanoes.

Mobius telling Loki to start off small and Loki completely disregarding that felt very personal to me.

Loki being absolutely chaotic and telling everyone they were going to die while speaking perfect Latin was iconic. I want more of that content. Let the man be buckwild.

Again, Loki finding something out after a day that the TVA never knew about is on brand.

"Be free, my horned friends, be free!" I love that way too much.

Mobius being obsessed with jet skis wasn't something I expected, but I'm down for it. Heck, even Loki admitted they were cool.

The discussion on beliefs is going to lead to saying the Time Keepers are bullcrap. Hopefully.

Grapes and nuts are "candy" on Asgard. So, when Loki was eating grapes in Ragnarok, we can interpret that as him eating M&Ms. Second, this might add to something I've seen around here. I've seen things about a book somewhere with Loki saying chocolate fountains are mythical (which is really funny to me). So, I guess Asgard really doesn't have chocolate.

Oh my gosh, so many apocalypses between 2047 and 2051...hopefully none of those happen in real life.

Roxxcart is probably part of Roxxon, something that has been around in Iron Man movies.

Lady Loki got the shovel thing from Roxxcart that she left in Oklahoma! The minutemen said it was from the early third millenia, which is where we are now! 2050 also fits that category!

I saw something about the file saying Class 8 hurricane...there are only 5 classes...which means this is a crazy storm.

Does B-15 want Loki dead? This is a legitimate question, because I think she does. Dead or pruned.

Loki looking around at the storm, I love it. This could be him loving science, or him missing Thor, since Thor creates storms. Also, at this point Loki probably things Thor dies shortly after him in the sacred timeline, so Loki would be particularly sentimental about Thor.

I love Loki drying himself off and not anyone else. And B-15 yelling about his magic. And Loki's motions are so fluid, it's so aesthetically pleasing, I love it.

Dudes, I thought B-15 was going to try to prune Loki when they were alone.

Okay, was Lady Loki bsing about the azalea sale, or does Roxxcart actually do that? I want to know.

Wunmi Mosaku did a really good job as Lady Loki, I loved it.

Loki being annoyed at Lady Loki and saying he understood how Thor felt, does that insinuate Loki can do what Lady Loki was doing?

B-15 and C-20 were both very shaken after being possessed by Lady Loki. I wonder how that felt for them? We've had different explanations of mind control/brainwashing/similar from Clint, Bucky, Daisy, Mack, Fitz, and Monica in the MCU (including AoS). I wonder what is specific to Lady Loki's possession.

C-20 kept going on about something being real. What was that about?

C-20 revealed the location of the Time Keepers to Lady Loki!

Lady Loki not wanting to be called Loki could be a sign she is Sylvie.

There's something weird where Loki's voice echoed around while the camera focused on Lady Loki. Maybe she's telepathic?

Someone needs to keep a tracker on people telling Loki this isn't his story in a show literally about him.

But, that does add to themes for his life, and how everything was always about someone else in his life. He was always a supporting character for Thor, for Odin, for Thanos. Now, even in his own story, everyone insists he doesn't matter.

I was wondering what the reset charges would be used for. I wasn't expecting a massive bombing of the sacred timeline! Wow! That was unexpected and I loved it!

Okay, this isn't from me, this is from New Rockstars. But to list all the places mentioned on chronomonitors, either bombed or not: Knowhere, Barcelona, Niflheim, Dartford, Phong Nha, Lisbon, Vormir, Thorton, Cookeville, Asgard, Rome, Sakaar, Barichara, Porvoo, Ego, Titan, New York City, Tokyo, Hala, Kingsport, Xandar, Beijing, Madrid, Portland, Jotunheim. Bolded are other planets. Those are almost all the planets visited in the MCU. So fun easter eggs there!

I like Lady Loki's aesthetic. The fingerless gloves, the cloak, I love it. And YES SHE ISN'T SEXUALIZED. So many genderbent characters are excuses to sexualize women. But Lady Loki is just as covered as the male Lokis.

Lady Loki just...left the time door open for Loki to follow...for a really long time...I'm worried he's running into a trap.

What is Loki going to do now?

Theory time y'alls: Lady Loki bombed the sacred timeline to flush the minutemen out of the TVA, leaving it defenseless. And she's gonna go after the Time Keepers themselves. We know she gets into the TVA from trailer footage, and that's what I think we're gonna see next episode. I think she (like the Loki we are following) is upset over the lack of free will, and she plans to change that. That's why she wasn't interested in helping Loki "take over" the TVA, because she doesn't want to become the leader of a new TVA, she wants it destroyed.

Alright, back to the Time Keepers stuff. They keep focusing on the middle Time Keeper. Even in the end credits they have a weird cut to focus directly on his face. I'm not 100% on this, but I like this theory. That face is similar to Jonathan Major's, the actor confirmed to be Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kang is a well known time travelling villain in Marvel. Maybe he is Kang, and is using variant versions of himself (that's a Kang thing in the comics) to mess with the timeline, and no one expects that from him. Also, Renslayer was his S/O for a bit in the comics, and they keep framing her in front of that one Time Keeper's face. I feel like this would be a good way to set up Quantumania and to show how sus the Time Keepers are.

Also, Loki was absolutely adorable the entire episode. And he got to sleep! Yay for him!

Bad Batch thoughts & predictions ep 6

Continuing these written reactions/predictions somewhere cause itd be fun I think to see what actually ends up happening and remembering what I thought at the time so im dumping it here, youre welcome. (Feel free to discuss if you want) if you want to keep up with it im gonna be tagging these as #jay rambles about bb

- Ok so before I even dive into the episode I had a thought about a scene from the trailer: In part of the trailer we see Rex and the bad batch and it kind of looks like Rex is almost leading them there sorta, we get a very quick half second peek of the area around them and doesn’t it look kind of like the crashed ship from the end of tcw???? Idk what reason theyd go but maybe its like “look at all these clones that died because they had the inhibitor chips and died following their orders” WHICH is 100% still a thing relevant because we all know Wrecker is about to turn and they need to save crosshair. Into the actual ep now: - The title is decommissioned and already I am concerned :tm: something is happening to somebody >> - bullseye? I mean that hit the target but it wasnt bullseye lol - Echo being a good dad and teaching omega is good content and im here for it. - Obviously Tech has good technology and is good at that kind of thing but im kind of curious what exactly his visor scanner thing does, because it seems super helpful a lot of the time. -- Kind of gives me a headcanon that like maybe Tech wasn’t like a super good clone when he was a shiny so he ended up like building all sorts of different things to help/prove himself and because that made him different (granted he was really good at it) he felt more at home with the bad batch, kind of like echo in tcw. - Wrecker you are complaining about heights but DO YOU REMEMBER YEETING REX LIKE THE HYPOCRISY SIR I CANNOT - It wasn’t that workers fault for being there (the guy hunter stunned) but he *stunned* him.... like isn’t he gonna get up at some point and be like “Yeah it was the bad batch that did it” ??? - Oh its the sisters! - Yeah like honestly why are they blaming bad batch it was their fault for the lockdown lol - Ooo I like the music even though its kinda subtle for the part the droids are coming in the lockdown its cool - STOP HITTING WRECKERS HEAD - GOOD SOLDIERS OH FUCK OH NO DAMN IT I FUCKING CALLED THIS SHIT WRECKER DONT FIGHT THE OTHERS I WILL CRY - ngl the sisters just kind of need to shut up and go with the plans and stop complaining because none of them have time for that - I don’t simp for hunter or anything but that shot of him where its him looking forward and he says thank you was kinda fine >> - Is there an echo in here? “Yes” PFFT I fucking love Echo so much omg. I love all of bb but I think Echo is my favorite. - Yes wrecker pulled through thank god.... please dont change your mind by the end of the episode. - “Yeah I’ve heard that before” YOU BE NICE TO THE CLONES THEY ARE NOT ALL THE SAME -- ok a little redemption but lets be honest she only said that cause hunter was nice to her - At first I thought the person on the hologram might be someone bad but ACTUALLY WHAT IF ITS AHSOKA AND REX????

I like how they’re not killing any of the clones. Most of the clones we’ve seen have always been big about how they’re all brothers, and I get why they wouldn’t want to hurt any of them

That was adorable. Kinda felt like filler, but it was still good. The fanservice we got with cut and suu and the rex mentions was gold. This ep was shorter than the premier, obviously, but I hope the future ones are a little bit longer. I know it can be hard to tell a strong animated story in a serialized format when the episodes are long, but I think we the fans have earned it. Can’t believe I have too wait till next Friday for more, the two in one week thing was nice. Oh well.

Let me tell you about A.C.E (Appreciation post and a guide)

‘So I have stanned A.C. E since debut and have always enjoyed them, but this comeback really sparked something and they have now become one of my favorite groups of all time. They are still criminally underrated so I thought I would make a little appreciation post, because they deserve it. Also while writing this turned out to be a lowkey guide too.

So let’s start

BEAT INTERACTIVE

All I have to say is in this house we stan CEO Hyeim. Beat Interactive is a company that only houses A.C.E. The respect for them starts from literally the beginning, their name A.C.E starts because they didn’t want to refer to the members as trainees, but as their companies’ aces.

If you don’t know A.C.E stands for Adventure Calling Emotions and adventure is a big part that Beat Interactive let’s A.C.E have. A.C.E are a group going on an adventure being able to find themselves in a company that let’s them.

A.C.E when they were ‘trainees’ were also just like, “Can we busk?” and Beat Interactive was like “You wanna busk? Okay here use the sound system and have fun” Beat Interactive let them choose locations, set ups etc.

Beat Interactive give A.C.E alot of freedom and this is why they have grown so well.

Beat Interactive also makes sure they are well educated. Their Ceo made sure that they would be educated, reading books on feminism and opening a tab on their community to talk about the things they learned and discussing things with fans which I find amazing.

Thank you Beat Interactive, staff and CEO Hyeim for treatting our boys so well!

A.C.E’s growth

I personally very much like it when groups debut and aren’t immediately popular. Let me explain, I feel like debuting with a strong popularity and getting very big on the first song. I feel like that intense popularity adds a lot of pressure to the group from the get go and it also brings a lot of negativity.

A.C.E have had a slow start. Their debut bringing them controversial opinions due to the styling. It seemed like that’s what everyone really focused on. But ‘Cactus’ as a song was a solid debut as a song. The mv wasn’t high budget, but it didn’t need to be. The styling was daring and I really loved it alot and thought it was a good risk to take. The choreo was impeccable but no one really seemed to focus on that, it was all about what they were wearing which was kinda sad. Felt liek their talent was being overlooked.

They then released ‘Callin’ and it’s personally one of my favorites of theirs (who am i kidding all their releases are my favorite) the song is great follow up to ‘Cactus’ keeping up with the hardstyle genre but with a nice twist. The styling for this one wasn’t as risky and the choreo was absolutely amazing and the song showcased all of their talents.

Then A.C.E went on some survival shows, Jun and Chan going on The Unit and Wow, Byeongkwan and Donghun going on Mixnine.

I would just like to add all the members of A.C.E did very well on the shows they were on. Chan making it into the final lineup on The Unit, and being in the temporary group UNB. Jun ranked 21 out of 63 and Chan ranked 9 out of 23 on The Unit.

On Mixnine, Byeongkwan and Donghun made it into the final lineup of Mixnine but never debuted because YG is a snake. Byeongkwan ranked 4, Donghun ranked 8 and Wow ranked 12 out of 72 male trainees.

These survival shows brought more attention A.C.E’s way and was a good choice for them.

After the survival shows, 4/5 of A.C.E came back with ‘Take me Higher’ which was very different from their previous songs and this was their first mini album. ‘Take me Higher’ is a bright happy track with fun colors and shows off their vocals very well.

The choreo was very fun, not as complicated as their previous songs but very fitting and the styling again was different. Men sporting crop tops on live stages with no undershirts was something kinda new and again very refreshing to see.

The B-sides on the album also gave us a chance to see a different side of them. ‘Black and Blue’ being an intense song sung by Jun and Wow. ‘Dessert’ being a fun playful track by Donghun and Byeongkwan. ‘5tar(incomplete version)’ being a beautiful ballad for the fans but sadly missing a member.

I remember this album coming out and I was having an absolutely horrible day and this song coming out. It made my day so much better and just put a huge smile on my face. So I am very thankfull for that.

And then BOOM. ‘Undercover’ came being undoubtebly one of my favorite releases of 2019. To me it felt like forever before A.C.E came back and they came back with vengeance and all 5 members.

‘Undercover’ is such an intense track and the music video matches it very much so. With smooth outfit transitions in choreo parts, awesome styling and Byeongkwan in that yellow leopard crop top and coat with the pigtails and yeah. Wow with glitter brows. Rap dup really shined this era and just amazing.

This choreography is also the toughest A.C.E choreo they have and it is incredibly intense, if you want a good workout, learn that choreo.

This was also an EP with hard hitting tracks like “Do it like me” and “Mr. Bass” and another beautiful fan song “If you heard” which makes me cry.

Savage. This song, this comeback holds one of my favorite tracks of all time. ‘Savage’ really was the comeback I needed in the midst of all the bad stuff going on it really made me very happy.

So ‘Savage’ is really intense with a hard bass and just great. I love this. Wow’s rap is one of my favorites of all time. I wish it was so much longer. The vocals in this song are deep and full. The choreography isn’t their hardest but fits the song and is very high energy.

The b-sides on this album are my absolute favorite. ‘Slow Dive’ is actually one of my favorite songs of all time right now. The vibe is dark and sexy yet still very smooth. ‘So sick’ showcases all of their vocals beautifully and my bias has my favorite part in the song too so it’s just lovely. ‘Holiday’ is a fun bright track which contrasts the title track a little but is still incredible. ‘Take me higher (complete version)’ THEY MADE A VERSION WITH ALL 5 MEMBERS.

The Members

These boys have also been through a lot of growth.

Jun had a training period of 7 years and almost debuted 3 times which must have been incredibly hard. But I am glad because he is now here with these 4 boys who love him and he is definitely one of the best leaders I have seen.

Jun also has this like unique sense of humor and is just incredibly funny even though the members say he isn’t. Also if you are ever bored just look up “A.C.E Idol Class funny moments” because he’s in almost every single one of them and they are hysterical. Also... “Butter”

Donghun is also just incredibly talented. His vocals are some of my favorites, ever. His vocals are so full and warm and they just make me feel comfortable? yeah I guess that’s right.

This boy is so freaking funny and sometimes just downright savage towards the other members, he always makes me laugh and smile. Also he is my main bias wrecker in A.C.E.

Wow is my bias in A.C.E (and my ult) and one of the best dancers I have ever seen. It’s just so fascinating to watch his body move and he does it with so much emotion. If the dance is agressive, he radiates angry energy. If the dance is sensual the way his body moves is smooth and sexy.

He used to be quite shy and awkward when A.C.E first debuted but like it’s so nice to see him coming out of his shell. He’s been my bias since the beginning (I’ve stanned since debut) and I’ve seen him grow. His vocals have improved sooo much over the years and his raps have been getting better and better and he is one of the best in the game but people don’t know about them.

Byeongkwan hi, this man is a triple fucking threat. He is the type of man who excels at everything he tries. It’s so cool watching him perform because of his talent and his stage presence is insane. It’s so surprissing to me that he isn’t more famous or popular.

He also is just a big sweetie like wow he’s so sweet and always tries to do the best for Choice which is awesome. Also crop tops.

Chan Kang Yuchan. I was surprised hearing his vocals. i was not expecting that baby to have such a deep full beautiful voice. His personality is just so incredibly bright and sweet. He’s such an amazing mood maker and is also incredibly funny.

Chan is just the type of person you want to hug and protect and take care of. Maybe pinch his cheeks a little.

This post is way too long. I could talk even more about why they need to be appreciated and why they deserve all the love in the freaking universe. But I’m stopping here.

In conclusion, my mental state hasn’t been the best of late and A.C.E have made me smile through a lot of shit which is really awesome and I am very greatful for that. I wish they would get more recognition because they are genuinely one of the most well rounded groups I have seen and I have seen a lot of groups.

Please shower them with love and affection and please keep a lookout for A.C.E and their future releases and projects.

I love how dedicated they are to their fans and their music and how dedicated they are to each other and their teamwork as well, and how hard they work but how they always seem to be living in the moment and having fun and making the best of every experience. uhhh anything really?? I like groups who are versatile and they’re proving to be exactly that. treasure ep 3 wasn’t my most favorite era because it felt more mainstream and one thing that drew me to them was the fact that they weren’t mainstream musically. maybe something darker than wonderland but borderline sexy, like vixx?

on my shelf: soundtrack to my third year of uni - summer

Now that was a busy semester! It felt super long (and super short). The first half was relatively relaxed but I’ve been permanently stressing out about something uni-related (usually my English Lit oral exam) since the end of May. But the worst is finally over and I can finally make this post as per tradition!

Basically, in the first half of the semester I listened to a bunch of different stuff, but since May I’ve basically only listened to one group and consumed almost exclusively their content... dear readers, I have become an ARMY. I never thought it would happen, but here we are. More on that below. Let’s get into my soundtrack for the semester (and this time it’s basically in chronological order)!

SWMRS: Berkeley’s on Fire (2019)

My first encounter with SWMRS was seeing them open up for All Time Low in my first or second semester and I loved them. But I couldn’t really get into their first album (Drive North) and Berkeley’s on Fire also took me a while, but only because I was so busy listening to Charlie Burg in February. I think this album is much more representative of who SWMRS are as a band and of the group I saw live in 2017. It’s diverse but full of energy from start to finish. It’s got heart, it’s sincere, and it talks about a whole range of topics that are sometimes important and sometimes more heartfelt. I especially loved listening to “Bad Allergies” during allergy season, because, well, same. This album gets you moshing alone and also contemplating life, which is very much my cup of tea. My favourite track is probably “Trashbag Baby”.

The Maine: You Are OK (2019)

Another band that I have listened to before, on and off, and never really found much of a connection with (though I did kind of love American Candy - the Warped Tour Instagram account gave out digital copies for free once, so I downloaded it because- free things). Some of my mutuals were very excited and in love with this album though and I also needed to hear that message, so I checked it out and completely understood what they were on about. I’d call some of the songs “epic” without them sounding forced to be like that - they don’t have that stadium rock, U2/Coldplay/Imagine Dragons feeling, where it can sometimes seem heartless and corporate. This album drips with love and heart and genuine caring. It makes me feel uplifted and wallowful, comforted and sad, all at the same time. I especially love the first four tracks and would recommend checking out “Slip The Noose”.

Vampire Weekend: Father of the Bride (2019)

It finally happened!! For the first time since I became a fan in 2013/14 Vampire Weekend finally released new music!!! And it’s so good!!! For a solid like 2-3 weeks this one album was all I listened to. It’s both quintessentially Vampire Weekend and somehow also totally different than their previous stuff. Although, MVOTC was also a pretty big change and now it’s just a normal part of the trilogy. Album 4 is very long, but listening to the whole thing in one go isn’t any effort at all, because the tracks are so diverse and the order they’re in mixes the styles up nicely. You have some country-leaning tracks (the duets with Danielle Haim - which had me very excited because I love HAIM) that invoke more classical country and are very tasteful (as is the entire album to be fair). You have upbeat, fun tracks like “This Life” and even “Harmony Hall” (that brings back one of my absolute favourite VW lyrics: “I don’t wanna live like this, but I don’t wanna die”) that still have a dark undertone (”This life and all its suffering / Oh Christ, am I good for nothing?” over a boppy guitar). You have moody songs like “My Mistake” and rock-y songs like “Sympathy” and just basically a whole bunch of different things that all have that undeniable VW essence, even with a whole lot less of Rostam. I can’t forget the first time I listened to the album at midnight and was surprised by every new song. Would recommend for summer listening, but probably every other season as well. “Sympathy” is my favourite track.

BTS: (basically their entire discography since The Most Beautiful Moment in Life) (2015-2019)

Quick rundown of my history with BTS (even if probably no one cares): ARMYs start showing up everywhere on the internet in about 2015 and I’m annoyed by them and by the K-pop industry because of the manufactured feeling I got from the music (although I did love SNSD’s “Gee” - it’s a classic after all). The first time I really paid attention to them was around the time “FAKE LOVE” was released and gained a lot of international attention. I wanted to check out the hype. I disliked it so much, it made me uncomfortable because of how they looked and there was just too much going on for me in the music and in the video. But I’d also heard of “DNA” being popular and I kind of loved that song, although the music video was still too busy for me. Same with “IDOL” when that was released - super overwhelming. I wish someone had told me that they also had songs that weren’t nearly as overwhelming and very much my taste in music. But I figured that out by about May this year. So they started promo’ing “Boy With Luv” and I checked out a couple of their live performances on American TV of it and was pretty impressed by the song, their look, their dancing... When they were at the Grammy’s J-Hope’s smile seemed so genuine, friendly and warm, and that was the moment I thought - oh no. Here we go. Ultimately, it was their performance(s) on SNL that got me hooked. I wanted to know their names and watched a bunch of YouTube videos explaining who everyone is and their personalities got me. Everything I thought about K-pop - they weren’t and aren’t it. I started watching interviews and loving Suga because he can be so dead-pan. I started listening to their music and it just made me feel so good. Even though I don’t understand 95% of what they’re saying exactly, I can still tell, because their genuineness, their heart, their message comes through in the music and the tone of their voices. Map of the Soul: Persona was the first album/EP of theirs I listened to and I was kind of skeptical about if I’d like their music in general or not, but then I listened to J-Hope’s Hope World and decided to give their other music a proper chance, and I’m so glad I did. They cover so many different styles of music that there’s definitely something for everyone. Their music, their personalities, their seemingly endless video content, their message, their authenticity, their love for their fans, their existence is literally the only thing that got me through the past couple of months. Because of them I was able to wind down after a long, stressful day and just laugh out loud. Because of them, I didn’t have a chance to wallow in my sadness. Man, this is sounding so cliché and sappy, but whatever, this is the truth. And while I was very embarrassed to admit it a couple of months ago, I can now openly say I love BTS. I love every member (but since this is a thing in kpop fandoms: my bias is Yoongi/Suga and my “bias wreckers” are Hobi/J-Hope and Jin) and I love every album/EP (but at the moment especially Love Yourself: Tear). Some songs I love a lot are “Seesaw”, “Epiphany”, “134340″, “Pied Piper”, and “Spring Day”.

This was a long post, I’m sorry! But I just wanted to get all of that out there, also just as a reminder for myself of why I loved these four albums so much this semester. The take away from this post, I think, is that sometimes, it might take a while before you appreciate something, but when you do, it’s all the more rewarding.
