In my 36-51 reread, I have been trying to puzzle out when the Marauders became aware of Lily’s feelings for James. So far, Remus catches Lily’s awkward choking when James makes the “since you so desperately want me” comment and Sirius definitively notices how weird she’s acting when the Marauders show up in the Hospital Wing after Lily gives Remus the hot chocolate/sleeping draught. But Sirius also seemed very hesitant to agree that there was “no hope” that Lily would return James’ feelings in their resolutions conversation.
I don’t know if those are the lightbulb moments or not, but I was curious if you had thoughts about when each of them figured it out? And in what order? And if those moments are “on screen”/in the story?
ok so i was actually saving this to answer on vday but i forgot about it and then noticed it again only minutes from midnight so # flop pls forgive . anyway, so
i hope you will also forgive me when i say a good bit of the marauders' guesswork here is Vibes. this comes from a very distinct feeling in high school where my friends often had strong senses of intuition about people who had crushes on me, particularly when it suited me to be in denial about that. my poor bff found herself in some very similar positions to sirius in re: lily, because we were so attached at the hip that some boys thought they simply had to get her input and approval before they could shoot their shot with me — i think to boys in general she seemed a lot more approachable, whereas when our positions were flipped and it was me facing down a guy interested in her, i was very much like 🔪 and what are your intentions with my dearest. so i wanted to kind of combine those feelings in sirius especially.
one thing that runs through my characterisation of him is, he can be extraordinarily biting/cruel in defence of his friends in a way that seems like it's just an instinctive lashing out. but as lily gathers, it's very much intentional and meant to keep people at a distance, and i think there's actually a surprising amount of emotional awareness and observation you need to do in order to be ready to snap in those situations — he is very good at knowing what would hurt, and knowing when to say it. there are many, ah, memorable moments in ct when he exercises that instinct because lily rubs him the wrong way. and i think actually he starts to suspect lily is interested (not necessarily has feelings for, but is interested) in james as early as spring of their sixth year, when they don't kiss but he still feels that something's happened between them. recall that sirius is an asshole to her until the summer in a way that she correctly interprets is a warning. i think the reason hes already tetchy with her is that he notices lily warming up to james but is at once like, there is no way she's as into him as he is into her (which at that point in fairness is probably true). he, like james, would immediately have put together, then, that they'd be spending a lot more time together come 7th year, and what would that mean for lily's interest? i imagine one off-page moment that has him suspicious is the day they take the train to school in september of their 7th year — the night before, james and lily meet in diagon alley, and james tells her he's head boy; that would definitely show in his mood i think when he returns to sirius's flat and the two of them go to kings cross together the next day. james being in such a good mood over the course of october (as he notices in chapter 39) probably adds to it. so he probably honestly thought there was A Chance already in the resolutions conversation, but without understanding the depth of lily's feelings, he's stuck with what he knows — which is that james has liked her for too long, and it won't at all end well if she's casual about something he's very serious about. a lot of the time sirius and james talk about lily, it's on the page from james's pov, and if i were to go through all those scenes i could probably pinpoint moments when sirius is, with full self-awareness, lying to james's face for what he thinks is his own good, ha (which i think is particularly funny because between the two of them sirius sees himself as the one more likely to screw up, and hates the idea that james might be heroically/patronisingly trying to stop him from doing so)
for remus — there's the lily choking, yes, but remember that of all their friends remus sees them working together more than anyone else, and so is uniquely positioned to see that they make a good team and like that they do. i imagine his moments were more frequently off the page (mostly because lets be honest, he would not be driving james/lily conflict because he does not have sirius's ridiculous contradictory motives so i was less focused on showing the reader how that happens). all the same, i don't think he would immediately have gone SHE LIKES HIM!!! the way sirius might; in all likelihood he'd have had a measured, normal response like "oh that's nice that they're getting along" and once sirius confides in him and peter, he'd think back and put the pieces together like oh i see it now
peter is kind of a toughie because i think he would have been caught unawares by the actual revelation, but also kind of...not? but in a very different way from how remus would be like "oh now that i think about it this makes sense" — i think he would a little bit be like "well of course lily fancies james" more because it's james than anything to do with lily (though again he would also take note of how they've been getting along lately). and he would also not find any contradiction between this new opinion and the earlier opinion of "mate she's never gonna fancy you back" and no he will not be interrogating that!!

It's kind of funny (heartbreaking) that there were multiple Ravens who wanted a number, to the point where some tried to manipulate Jean into helping them one way or another, but none of them would have been next in line. No matter what they did, there was always someone ahead of them on the list. Someone who wasn't even on the team. That someone wasn't Neil. Neil was a surprise to everyone, including Riko. That someone was Andrew.
Kevin might have had to beg Riko to go visit Andrew, and Riko might have laughed at Kevin and dismissed Andrew when Andrew turned him down, but make no mistake, if Andrew had accepted and had become a Raven, he would have taken that #4 spot within his first year.
If we're being real, Andrew had more of a chance at becoming part of the perfect Court than any of those Ravens ever had. Even Jean thinks of Andrew as one of them.
The other Ravens never stood a chance.

so REVENGE, HUH? or justice, if that makes you feel better. it tastes the same when cooked just right. 'I REALLY WANTED A BROTHER.' such a shame to burn a bridge you so desperately wanted to keep, especially when it wasnt even you who started the fire. especially when you hope that not a single fragment of that bridge ever washes ashore.[MAY IT ROT FAR FROM MY SIGHTS]
an unfortunate loss! atleast he has his friends.

there seems to be far too many fans who can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that no relationship in the Vampire Chronicles is healthy. every relationship includes an element of abuse/power imbalance by normal standards. literally every single one.
they are all monsters who are no longer constrained by societal rules. so I don't think it's too crazy to expect them to do mosntorus things. the genre is Gothic HORROR. the show really prioritizes the HORROR element more so than other adaptaions, which i love.
i don't need louis to be a liar to enjoy lestat. if louis lied or misremebered things about the fight in episode 5, i literally do not care because it's never gonna make me hate louis. the baseline of what constitutes "evil" or "bad" is so different in iwtv because of the fact that they are NOT HUMAN. Claudia is literally a serial killer and she's still mother to me. ykwim?
the nature of vampirism is they have to kill to survive. so it would be really cool if people could accept louis, armand, and claudia as complex characters who are fundamentally not good people (because they aren't people!) without being racist about it. THEY ARE ALL KILLERS
im more interested in this exploration of the complexities of memory and seeing how the show integrates the other books into this story in a way that hasn't been done before than I am in discoursing about whether louis is a liar or not. who gives a shit???? grow up and realize that there are no good guys here and that's OKAY

the thing about watcher is I think buzzfeed unsolved fucked them over. both in terms of numbers but also in terms of output. if you go to buzzfeed unsolved network and sort by popular, you have to scroll past 84 videos before you get below 10mil views. and a lot of those are 5-7 years old, so those are numbers they would've been looking at when deciding to break off from buzzfeed (the first watcher video was posted 4 years ago). they thought they could get big numbers without constantly churning out videos, because that's what they'd gotten with buzzfeed unsolved. and I'm sure they adjusted their projected numbers to account for people not following over to the new channel, but I doubt they predicted their top videos would be in the 8mil views range (which is still a lot, but not what they had pulled in the past).
so they aren't getting old buzzfeed unsolved numbers, but that's okay! look at the try guys - they aren't putting up millions of views every video and they're able to have a company with a decent amount of employees. and this is where the output issue comes in. between their main channel and their various podcasts, try guys is putting out 5 videos a week, with 2 being main channel videos. watcher is putting out 3 with 1 being a main channel video. plenty of people who have been making videos for a while have talked about the youtube grind and the algorithm - there's a reason daily vlogs and content houses got so big. and watcher didn't want to do that grind. from the beginning they've said they want to do seasons of shows. which is feasible! again, this is something try guys does with without a recipe. but the difference is try guys has quick and cheap videos they can put out in between and concurrently with those big shows that help support them. eat the menu is their best example of this because it gets big numbers. watcher doesn't really have filler videos.
to further the try guys comparison, buzzfeed unsolved limited the type of content fans were looking for in a way try guys was never limited because trying new things is a really fucking broad category. try guys was always more about the people than the specific thing they were trying. obviously a lot of fans of watcher like ryan and shane (and to a lesser extent steven, based on how many people are blaming him specifically for this). but I'm sure there were also people only watching because they liked true crime and/or ghost hunting content, which makes it harder to branch out and retain ghost files numbers on their other shows.
overall, they thought they could be buzzfeed with just unsolved, and that's not how youtube works and now it's fucking them over that they got too ambitious too fast

Hi this is where I talk a bunch about ocs :D
I dont have a lot of time lately to talk abt lore but i still think abt my guys whenever i have some chill time to myself, so here's some patch notes. This is also just me thinking out loud haha
CD:
ive been playing w some changes for CD and seeing if they stick :] gonna make the story slightly more complex and the sides of the conflict also different (for example I am going to make hades and talas full on enemies at first along with connon, caval and silas >:3 (and I am also making silas and his monster form two separate characters so the lion (hal) is now a mount instead))
Specifically what I've been thinking about is making Hades either a ship captain or a first mate for a rogue ship. The deal with Hades is that he comes from a renowned family from Redbridge and is a disgrace to them. In previous versions of CD they were artisans but that never rly clicked for me, and recently I have been reworking Redbridge into a naval empire to add some 🤏spice 🤏to the world, which would mean Hades' family is actually a naval captain family putting him next in line to be one of them but since his thing is being a disgrace he takes off and becomes a rogue. And instead of hating leviathans he fucking hates hunters instead. Conversely, I think with these changes Talas would also NOT be inclined to kill hunters (or at least not as often as he currently does). He'd pick fights with the naval fleet and other similar factions instead which is more like his character.
I also wanna try and bring back an older concept I had where connon's ship was able to both become fully submerged (like the subs in sunless sea where her character originated from) and this other idea I had where a ship could split in half into two smaller ships. Like if a catamaran could split into two and flank a vessel on both sides. But we'll see if I can make this work x)
Dragons (broken horizon + extinction):
I vaguely mentioned this a while ago as well but I've also been thinking abt my dragons and how I kinda want them to all be in one world/setting, which includes both my broken horizon guys (cer, jarek, octane, etc) and my extinction guys (alex, c, orion, etc) but I dont know how to deal with all of the conflicting lore and themes.
Because for extinction the big theme is there are people who can turn into dragons, and technically all of the dragons' powers are based on energy (for lore reasons). Meanwhile for my other dragons I have a few different elements or other ways of using fire (eg instead of using straight up fire/energy, my oc Jarek can breathe out gas only and ignites it with his mandibles).
I miss all my dragons a lot so I kinda wanted to make a world for them where I could have them Vibe and do different stories in so I thought about having a dragon-only universe but unfortunately Extinction has a pretty huge human element that I cant just eliminate.
It feels counterintuitive, i know the first logical choice is 'just let them be different things' but I genuinely feel like the right choice is to put them both together so the characters can interact and the whole story can be deeper because as it is both are really shallow and I would really like for them to work together so that's what I've been picking at for some months now (it's um. been real slow)
For these two stories I do have two different vibes though that I've been wondering how to weave together nicely bc they overlap for some characters. For broken horizon I had flying and aerial racing as a big theme (and some of the chars in extinction would be rly into that) and for extinction I had dragon arena fights as a big theme (and some of the characters in bh would be rly into that) both of these is another of the reasons why I wanted to put them both together bc it feels like they can fit very well I just have to find the right idea for them to click and then itll be smooth sailing -w-
I also wanted to talk abt this in hopes that talking abt all the dragons gets me to think more about them as well
I wanted to make this post bc I've been really busy lately and rly absent from here in general and I don't have as much time to draw (or even think abt ocs) anymore but I still wanted to keep posted about what's been going on in my head and hopefully get some eyes on it and maybe even some feedback if anyone is so inclined
If u read this whole thing thank u i owe you my life fr I hope u enjoyed reading abt my patch notes :D and hopefully sometime in the future I can get back to drawing concepts and stuff or maybe even writing stuff

The type of Christian who asks atheists how they don't like, murder people on the reg are so funny to me because they seem to think their religion makes them the Peak of Morality when statements like "if you don't believe in God how comes you don't do X thing" all but outright state they have no idea why shit like murder and rape is bad except that God doesn't like it lmao. Like way to admit you have no intrinsic sense of morality and need to be afraid of a higher power to be a decent person, but I promise if you're not a piece of shit it's actually very natural not to want to do heinous evil shit all the time potential punishment from a higher power or not 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

2 outta 4 of the main characters of. whatever this story i have in my brain is. weird gay cyborg cowboy and the clown baby she brings with her everywhere (said clown baby can also transform into a motorcycle but thats a secret)
[image description: a drawing of two original characters. the first is w, queer person who uses any pronouns, who is a tall, thin, and dark-skinned person with short dark purple hair. his face is mostly covered by shadow or the pink bandana wrapped around the lower half of his face, with the only feature visible being his eye, which is pink with yellow sclera. her right arm and leg have been replaced with light blue cybernetics. they are wearing a white bodysuit which is unzipped at the chest and with gold fringes on the sleeves, a matching cowboy hat with a crown-shaped gold plate on its front, matching thigh-high boots with pink hearts on the knees, pink heels, and a gold angel wing-shaped accent on the sides, and a bright blue harness around their torso with a pink heart the waist. the second is lil plum, who uses they/them pronouns and is a small, purple, cow-esque robot. they have horns, blue and yellow eyes, and a clown nose. they have small angel wings where their arms should be, and they are painted to look like they are wearing a white, pink, yellow, and blue clown outfit. they are also wearing a white frilly neckpiece and a small gold crown. both characters are surrounded by doodles of sparkles. end id]

cannot stop thinking abt how Sholmes subtly cares for ppl so much like... in the middle of the night he sees Gina go out to the pawn shop and watches her to make sure shes ok, and when she doesnt come back he follows her and ends up getting fucking shot in the process. he breaks into the courtroom during the trial the next day clearly very unwell and still aids Ryunosuke all he can before fucking collapsing from exhaustion. turns out he's also been keeping an eye on Gregson to make sure he doesnt get hurt doing his thing, and when he dies hes absolutely beside himself abt it bc he couldnt deduce what couldve happened. he instantly takes up Yujin's offer on taking care of Iris without hesitation and keeps the truth abt her family at bay to protect her. and when Iris does finally call him daddy he bursts into tears on the spot.
like yea hes a goofy eccentric mf whos always doing his own fucking thing but he also really, REALLY cares abt the ppl he loves... funny guy with big heart..........

i keep imagining the statehouse as this huge house in the middle of nowhere. the entire property is in the middle of a grassland—yellow-green grass that reaches up to your knees kind of grassland. the plains. and there's a fenced off backyard behind the statehouse, but not more than a few hundred feet after it there's a forest—a temperate deciduous forest, like you find in the eastern U.S., with a creek a little ways in. venture deeper and you'll find a river. there's a mountain backdrop as well, and you know they're huge mountains, but they're so far away they appear a little small.
the house itself is... queen anne meets folk victorian-ish. shades of golden brown and white. there's a paved road leading up to it and a parking lot off to the side, about the size of a decently sized high school parking lot. and the road ends at the house. if you keep driving the other way, though, you eventually make it to town. a fairly urban city, with your standard fast food joints and stores and gas stations and whatnot. it's not the heart of a metropolis, not the suburban edges of it, but a decently populated urban city with a freeway or two running through it. somehow, somewhere, after a bit of an elevation drop maybe, absolutely rural plains gives way to the city. blink and you'll miss it, except no matter what you do, you'll always miss it.
the thing is, i keep imagining the statehouse and the land surrounding it as this little pocket in time and space, that exists on vaguely the same line as where central time meets eastern. the states are immortal, and that's practically magic, so why can't the statehouse be magic as well?

Arlecchino discourse is really awkward because both sides are so convinced they are right and that the other side just lacks media literacy but 9 times out of 10 the take in question is also wrong and it leaves me scratching my head a little bit….
