something about the way neil and the boys act around mr perry makes me view him as more of a drill sargent than anything. everyone immediately stands upon him entering the room. they dont sit until given permission. it rly puts the whole military school thing into perspective but NOT ENOUGH TO SATISFY ME. as much as i hate mr perry, i wanna know what his life was like growing up. this man lived thru the great depression AND wwii, theres stories.

THE SPECIFICS OF THIS SHOT. i was gonna make a post a while ago being like "idk i find it funny that the main focus of this shot isnt even one of the poets" and then i realised that WAITTTTTTT THATS THE POINT!!!! keating reached kids besides the poets!!! u didnt have to be in the dead poets society to be affected by the way he taught his classes!!! u just had to be his student!!!!! also i love the fact that the kids who stayed seated r ASHAMED. EMBARRASSED.

the ending shot. oihghgghgg. it was SUCH a choice to set it up this way and honestly i adore peter for making it. this shot is SOOOO UNCOMFORTABLE TO LOOK AT and i love it. when i first watched this i was like "uhm ok interesting choice putting todd between this kids legs but I GET IT. one of the biggest things i remember from the film classes i took is that the way u set up shots is sooo important narratively, and one way to rly push the narrative is the space around a character in a shot. for example! if u have a character on screen surrounded by a TON of negative space then it rly emphasises how alone/ isolated they are. on the other end of the spectrum (the todd spectrum), if you surround a character in a shot with other objects or obstructions, like todd and this kids legs, then it rly emphasises how trapped and confined they are. looking at this makes me feel like. claustrophobic almost, like it's genuinely a bit harder to breathe looking at it. TODD IS STILL TRAPPED IN THAT SCHOOL. YES HE STOOD ON THE DESK AND YES HE NOW HAS THE MOTIVATION TO BE MORE CONFIDENT BC OF NEIL BUT HE! IS STILL! TRAPPED THERE!

i was also gonna add that we dont rly talk about todd personality wise outside of poetry and anxiety but then i realised, what else is there? we dont really see much about him as a person outside of that, and i think thats the point! todd is constantly overshadowed by his brother, we know that, but i dont think we realise HOW MUCH that ties in with his entire character. quite honestly, outside of poetry and anxiety, ALL we have surrounding todd is his brother and his achievements. and of course! that makes sense! his parents want him to be just like his brother, they dont care about who he is as a person. the desk set scene rly is the most insight we'll get into todds actual personality and desires imo, and thats what kills me. he wants a car!!!! get this boy a car!!!!!!!!! we rly see him start to open up before neils death and i wouldve LOVED to get to know todd when he's actually in a place to be himself!! but of course we never got that! sobs.

this isnt the first time ive been asked for writing tips so im gonna give a lot of info. youre bound to find something useful in this mess

im so sorry but one of my solutions to giving myself confidence in smut-writing was to literally fuck and fuck a lot

after losing my virginity it still wasnt enough experience tbh. so i gave myself room to explore my sexuality and was privileged enough to do it with a partner that encouraged that growth. that experience of fucking sure didnt hinder my smut-writing ability if you know what i mean ;0 but everything else about writing i learned from years of practice. ive been writing since i was in elementary school like id come home from fourth grade and read and write on quotev klsdjfsfj smut writing skills came later post puberty

when i tried writing smut as a virgin i genuinely couldn’t get past the build up. i was fantastic at writing the build up, it was the actual sex part that was hard bcos even tho i had done enough research (i read a lot of porn) it didn’t instill me with enough confidence that i could write it correctly, and so i never did. however! i sure wish i’d committed to it more, so let me see if i can write out some tips that would’ve helped me in the past

(this is just how i write smut, im by no means an expert)

my timeline

the way i write smut is pretty formulaic so i’ll break it down:

hook line ⟹ settings ⟹ build-up ⟹ foreplay ⟹ sex ⟹ ending

☥ hook line. maybe: a dialogue piece to kickstart; an ambiguous line that reels you in; an exciting action. i dont like starting my story with the name/pronouns of a character doing something boring. i.e. “you were getting ready for the day…” idk it’s not the worst thing in the world and we've all done it but just writing out what i try to avoid.

☥ build up is key to me. i have such a hard time reading and writing porn with no plot. i’ll do it sometimes if i like the writer enough, but i rarely write smut without the build up bcos i feel like that’s where the juice is. its whats fun and what you get to play around with bcos the actual sex part of the fic is pretty predictable.

focus on what’s said and unsaid in dialogue between characters. focus on the emotion each of them are feeling and how that emotion manifests into body language.

⟹ dirty talk is not for everyone, but god i love it. literally get nasty with it, this is your writing and we’re all just readin it. build anticipation using dirty talk, make filthy promises, make threats. make your characters talk about the nasty shit they wanna do to each other.

imagine someone you really wanna fuck, imagine the things youd do to them if you had the chance,,, write it into your characters.

☥ foreplay. goes hand in hand with dirty talk, its where the touching starts. decide how you want to play it. who gets oral, who gets fingered. both? one of them? neither and they just go straight to fucking?? i like foreplay, but if youre writing a “quickie” scenario then it may not be in the cards.

lets say it is in the cards tho. so some things to remember:

⟹ foreplay gets the dicks hard. when dicks get hard they leak pre-cum. balls have like no cushion and theyre soft and have little sacks in em that move around. the skin of this genital is often described as velvety bcos its soft. ive honestly never had sex with an uncircumcised penis so i have no idea if there’s a difference between how they feel.

foreplay makes the pussies loose and wet. the inside can be lumpy. it can be ridged or smooth. it can be all kinds of flesh colors like brown and pink.

without the foreplay (which can be verbal communication, or touching of the body or genitals) its a little painful for afabs bcos theyre too tight or too dry. and a flaccid dick is a little unpredictable to try to fit in.

⟹ afabs can have multiple orgasms, amabs are less lucky. afabs can cum and squirt multiple times, amabs can cum multiple times.

⟹ genitals get really sensitive after cumming though. so if you write someone finishing, write out how they might need some time before they finish again or start fucking, or that they get overstimulated getting touched still after they came and that sensitivity is a little uncomfortable.

⟹ the head of the penis is the most sensitive and that’s what makes it cum/orgasm. clits on pussies are the most sensitive and its what makes cum/orgasms happen. its very difficult if not impossible to achieve orgasm (if youve got a pussy) through penetration alone without clit stimulation

⟹ you can cum/squirt and not have an orgasm

☥ sex

⟹ changing positions can change angles and hit new pleasurable spots inside pussies.

⟹ probably write a couple different positions during the sex part, just to keep things fresh.

⟹ sprinkle in dirty talk to prolong the sex scene and to avoid sounding repetitive because if youre writing p in v it’s pretty standard to thrust over and over again until youre done. its a lot less glamorous when you spell it out like that, so you gotta add shit to make the sex scene more enjoyable to the reader whos not actively experience the sex.

☥ ending. i usually end the one shot after the fucking is done.

the smut tips

☥ think back to a time you were really turned on. from a show, from a book, something someone said to you, your own sex life, porn you really liked,,, take inspiration from it. use it and channel that own arousal within you.

if youve got a dirty fantasy and it gets you so hot and bothered thinking about it, write that.

if youve got a partner that fucks you crazy good and supplies you with inspo for dialogue or for settings or for scenarios, write that too. theres been a whole bunch on my blog that was inspired by my boyfriend. not everything, but enough to mention it.

also! another thing that people underestimate is the inspiration you take from other blogs. like mine for example, if you like my stuff take inspo from it. study my writing style and you’ll see all kinds of little tips in subtext id never be able to list for you. i do that with other blogs, i dont copy them but i definitely learn little things i like from them and incorporate it into my writing for a more cohesive story. if i take an idea though i ask for their permission & credit them.

☥ the most important tip i can give you is be as self indulgent as possible. youre wasting time worrying about other people. “will they like this? will people think im weird? what if they think im weird for writing this?” fuck that noise. warn accordingly, and go ham. your self indulgence is your best friend. it’ll guide you through all those dirty things you want to say or do to someone, let it take root and write what excites you. chances are you will find your people, and your fic will be set apart bcos it’s so specific to you that people will be drawn to that. and if theyre not? it ends up not being popular? it doesnt matter! because you had fun writing it right? fuck yea u did

☥ the types of words you use are so important. words that invoke a certain emotion or sexy feeling. its difficult to explain but i try my hardest to use “beautiful language” paired with dirty, disgusting, cacophonous language. marry them together so you can convey whether youre “love-making” or “fucking”. i dont like words that dont look or sound good in my head. like when you paint, you probably use colors you like looking at to create the entire picture on the canvas that’s beautiful. so pick out paints that are pleasing to the eyes. the bold ones and the soft ones.

examples of words i dont use cos i hate the way they sound and the way they look: “vagina” and “penis” LMAO

even “butt” isnt a word i like to use. i’ll almost always use “ass” or “backside”

⟹ the smut writer’s dictionary

☥ i keep comedy out of it for the most part, ive never really seem humor added positively into a smut that added to the experience. its usually physical humor stuff like the characters bumping heads or stubbing their toe or something its just cringy to me idk. if i add comedy (i am not good at writing comedy)i put it before the smut. and if you must have some sort of lightheartedness id keep it casual, light, and personal. like an inside joke or something tongue in cheek. you dont have to hide your deepest desires behind humor , you can be serious

☥ your pain tolerance is heightened so run with that. get spanked its fun

more important tips i love and stand by:

☥ call backs are important to me. it’s like if you have something in the future of your fic to be used, try to incorporate it in some small way in your establishing settings or build up. but it’s not as important to others as it is to me. an example would be in my one shot “talk huttese to me”, at the end anakin fucks reader on the tool table. at the very beginning of the fic, when i had reader taking in the surroundings of the “garage bay”, she scanned the drawer stack where she set his broth she brought him, and the tool table he’d later fuck her on. its kinda like,,, foreshadowing (i think?). you’re setting up your reader to be like “?? i wonder why the author thought it would be important to mention the tool table.. wonder if anakin fucks her on it later.” but even if your readers dont react that way, i still think it ties things together nicely

☥ try to write 15-20 mins uninterrupted. create a ritual. i use the bathroom, refill my water, grab a fun drink like sweet tea, put on a silent youtube video (like my ahsoka star wars lofi live i love so much), listen to a playlist of music (preferably music you havent heard before so it can fade into the background. maybe even cultivate a playlist for the vibe youre going for in your story, aids greatly in creating an atmosphere in your writing if youre translating the music in your ears), and turn your phones notifications off (ofc i leave on notifs for calls in case of emergencies, but i can answer my friends’ texts after my writing session). set a timer so you dont have to keep checking the time.

☥ don’t stop in the middle of your storytelling to check the thesaurus or dictionary. write out whatever word/phrase first came to mind and highlight it to come back to later to alter or replace it completely. you’re interrupted your creative flow and its difficult to come back to it when youre checking the thesaurus every five seconds. this hack was crucial to my ability to stay on task i promise you

☥ avoid sounding repetitive by using the same words close together. you’ll create a fuller story by adding to your vocabulary using the thesaurus.

☥ avoid listing actions, break them up with adverbs at the start of your sentences if you must, or description of things or the place your character is in, or explain the emotion your character is feeling or what that emotion is causing within your character. starting sentences over and over again with the character’s name or pronoun breaks up the flow for the reader.

☥ really try to finish your works in progress even if you think its bad, the challenge of it will help you practice and learn to overcome your own mind trying to hold you back

☥ if you dont like the direction your fic is going,,, and youre experiencing writer’s block:: cross out the most recent bit and take it in a new direction. “oh but indy!! i really have a certain goal in mind!!” great, find another way to get to it because youre blocking yourself from finishing this forcing yourself into a non entertaining corner. switch it up! challenge yourself. “but indy!! i really liked what i had for this scene!!” yea but youre blocked right? youre not writing anything else for this scene and you cant, right? if you like what you have for this scene (an action, a dialogue piece youre proud of, a plot twist) save it! use it for a different piece !

Man i sweeeeeaaaaar i had a post about philippa working with boothby in his roses while she’s in starfleet academy but IDK WHERE IT WENT GIRL HEEEEEEELP (i swear i also had like, some vague idea posts about the triplets,,, but i cant seem to find them by searching anymore lol they’d be hella buried) ILL REHASH............ 

(i just wanna say too like w/e i write isnt Law,,,, Alice has her own ideas,,, i have mine,,, u can pick and choose or Simply Ignore lmaO we try to keep this au pretty open to interpret and portray and adapt or w/e)

like like like,,,,,,, i remember the idea vaguely was that peppa stumbled through academy life, things didnt come naturally to her ever, she had a HOT HEAD and would pick fights with other students, and janeway and chakotay would be struggling to figure out what to do with her, and either chakotay suggests boothby or boothby inserts himself into the equation and gets peppa to begin leveling herself out emotionally by getting her to garden with him in his roses during her spare time :) inevitably philippa ends up pursing the medical field (with great influence from Tom who’d likely have suggested it to her after tending to some of her wounds from her most recent scrap, given is own background in the field while aboard Voyager) and becomes a combat medic.

peppa ends up being the one to successfully achieve command through a unique set of circumstances leaving her as the ranking officer of a small crew (likely after her captain falls victim to their wounds...... ive toyed with the idea that there’d have been a “trust no one” conspiracy surrounding these events and the captain, choosing to put their faith in Philippa rather than other personnel outranking her, grants her an “active captain” status which she begrudgingly accepts) it’s a rough idea though which i dont anticipate getting to effectively explore haha

peppa gets along with all of her parents except Kathryn who i think experiences great difficulty in both relating to and understanding her daughter. unfortunately peppa has always craved her attention and approval, often getting overshadowed by her sister. but she’s always been driven by this need to succeed and stand out (despite rarely achieving this) for her mother. peppa loves black coffee but she drinks tea out of spite ‘cause she knows it bothers her mother if only slightly

amelia on the other hand finds solace in her mother’s holodeck programming of leonardo da vinci (though shed never admit to its usage), where she goes to confess her difficulties in maintaining the facade of interest in pursuing command for the sake of impressing her mother, being the golden child of the three. she tells him of her fascination for stories of adventure and her deep yearning to explore the unknown. she ends up wiping the hologram’s memories of whatever truths she’d confess to him and consequently she lives in this rather repressed state of not being able to admit to herself what she really wants. 

amelia is very much the apple of her mother’s eye, she’s a bit of a perfectionist, naturally exceeds at tasks, does tennis, is great at science, and has her eyes set on command. those are at least the attributes she more outwardly displays about herself; in actuality she has a passion for reading that was nurtured into her at a very young age by kathryn, tom, and chakotay, a knack for cartography she rarely has the change to indulge in (again thank you Riley i’m kissing your brain), a crippling fear of failure, a strong distaste for coffee despite drinking it frequently, and a has deep need to break free of her responsibilities and expectations.

ideally i always imagined amelia and philippa would eventually swap uniform colors. where philippa ends up becoming a starfleet captain and amelia sets her eyes on exploration and discovery underneath the science/astronomy belt. 

edward learns about about spirituality and anthropology underneath his father chakotay. he begins his studies while in starfleet academy, but inevitably chooses to walk his own path in the outlying reaches of space where he can interact with and better observe alien cultures without the lingering presence of Starfleet looming over him. he lives a very minimalistic life while aboard his own vessel during his travels between planets, rarely carrying anything more than the basic essentials. if anything he’d be a collector of relics/artifacts/culturally significant trinkets gifted to him through his many interactions. 

i loved in @and-to-you-its-just-words’ fic establishing that edward has a preference for communicating through the chirps and clicks of their hyperevolved language, i like to think that’d inevitably lead into him having this natural ability to pick up languages relatively quickly without the aid of a comm badge. he likely started in the academy learning linguistics and anthropology to refine his skills. eventually he found this format to be too slow and unsuitable a way to learn about societies and consequently he’d go for a more hands-on approach outside of starfleet regulations, though he maintains many of the rules he’d become accustom to living under for so long.

as a kid edward was very shy and clung to his mother; while she found his seemingly unwarranted attachment toward her a little disconcerting at first, it’s something she grew to become very fond of as he aged. she experienced an immense amount of heartache when he’d inevitably choose to not only leave starfleet but also to explore the vastness of the universe’s reaches outside of their ability to remain in consistent contact with each other.

no i get that its questionable which is why. Again. if id known the post was going to be seen by as many people as it was, i wouldve anticipated that some ppl wouldnt be able to follow my exact line of thinking and maybe explained a bit further

hating men for simply being men and telling yourself and others that they are inherently bad because they are men, while maybe soothing in the moment (because i understand Personally that lots of men, esp white cishet ones, are shitty and oftentimes its a result of the power imbalance in a patriarchal society), is an unhelpful line of thinking bc if you really, truly believe that men are the way they are due to their gender, you remove the motivation to hold them to higher standards, and accept that they will just be Awful Forever Due To Some Inherent Flaw In Manhood. and you’re buying into gender essentialism, which is something terfs and radfems buy into as well (as much as they Will Not Admit It). its a dogmatic and black and white way of thinking, and radfems and terfs will see you (maybe not you specifically as i dont know if You the anon are tma) doing this and youll become a target for their sympathy and eventual indoctrination, which ultimately harms trans women and transfemmes more than anyone

and gender essentialism and bioessentialism (which is DEFINITELY a core tenet of radfem ideology, i promise you) are both Essentialism, are both beliefs that there are personality traits and behaviors inherent to entire groups of people because of something arbitrary like one’s gender or the kind of body they have or once had. theyre the belief that, no matter what happens to some people, they will simply never change or break out of the expectations you have for them -- which is anti-queer because our community is Built on not meeting cisheteronormative expectations, and transphobic because Trans People Literally Change Their Genders All The Time. and if you believe that someone born one way is going to be that way forever, terfs, radfems, and other transphobes would love to agree with you. so you have to understand that if a trans or detrans person can change their gender (often multiple times in their lifetime),  their gender literally offers nothing in the way of explaining their behaviors or personality traits

i Do see how easy itd be to twist my words into “op thinks that trans women arent women” but terfs and radfems really do look for and stick around people who totally and unequivocally hate all men on the basis that they are men, and the current trend in Queer Humor(tm) ive been seeing where people drag on men for the simple fact that they Are Men is. worrisome. it worries me. i get that theyre jokes but i cant find them funny because ik some people are internalizing that shit without thinking critically abt it first, about who could be telling these jokes or who could be listening for whoever laughs the loudest at them

in which i loosely follow the plot of hamilton except its firstprince and alex and henry get a happy ending. inspired by the striking similarities i noted between our favorite first son and his namesake hamilton in the broadway musical

the similarities:

both have/will have a political career

both often talk too much/don't mind their words

both began as lawyers

both extremely motivated but overwork themselves (“nonstop” +  “you have a fire under ur ass for no good goddamn reason)

both had some sort of sex scandal that impacted their career plans

hamilton speculated to be bi

the story

the setup of the colonized country alex lives in is similar to the usa vs england but fictional bc alexs race would have limited his opportunities in america's early years

idk names for either of these countries so its now the colony and the motherland

alex + his mom live alone in the poorer southern part of the colony

but his dad + june live elsewhere + they dont rly contact e/o (tho they do know of e/o’s existence)

june becomes a journalist who writes important pieces abt independence

when alex comes of age his mom reveals she used to be part of the rebellion

thats actually why his dad left to raise june bc it was too dangerous

his parents met in the rebellion but oscar left first for june while ellen stayed until she realized she was pregnant w alex

ellen still has some rebel contacts but she mostly sheltered alex to keep him safe

now tho alex decides to join too + the rebellion sends him up north to the capital for an education bc he's smart + they need people like that

he attends uni + meets like-minded people there

tension grows btwn the colony in the motherland, and alex + his friends write/speak out often and this goes on throughout their schooling

they’re also troublemakers in general too, much to the annoyance of the motherland soldiers stationed in the capital to prevent rebellion

henry is one of those soldiers

he's from a noble family in the motherland but was sent overseas as the sort of black sheep of the family due to his sexuality

the idea was to let him be in charge in the colony + reestablish a reputation there w/o embarrassing the main family back home

henry hates his job + feels bad for the colonists but still does what he's told anyway

alex + fhis riends like to bug motherland soldiers for fun

nothing  enough to put their lives in danger too much (although yes that too esp when drunk)

henry becomes a favorite target of alex's bc he's awfully stoic + statue like + on the way to uni - overall fun to antagonize 

there's also the fact that alex is angry at all the soldiers for oppressing the colony + holding up the motherland monarchs tyranny (but also alex just is the type to fight literally everything and anything) 

it becomes almost a daily ritual for them to argue 

henry wonders why this colonist keeps on picking a fight w him but soon almost looks forward to it

many of the other soldiers know or speculate why henry is in the colony but none make the effort to get to know him; some even call him arrogant or undeserving of his position

alex doesn't 

of course alex also doesn't know him

and alex hates him

but he doesn't whisper behind henry's back

henry comes to read some of the essays alex publishes speaking out against the monarchy + also hears alex speak to crowd in the square

alex is a talented + charismatic public speaker

henry finds himself growing increasingly sympathetic to the colonists cause

at the same time he and the other soldiers are order to be stricter and dole out more punishments

the others gleefully do so which makes henry concerned about alex's safety bc alex often seems to have no self-preservation skills

henry asks alex for a word when he's alone 

“am I in trouble?” “no but you bloody will be if u keep going on like this” 

“this is serious” “so am I” “you can't go around saying things so openly you'll get yourself killed”

alex tries to leave at this point “I think I'll be ok” but henry shoves him against the nearest wall 

“listen to me! stop acting like this is a game! ur putting ur sodding life in danger! I dont bloody care what ur opinions r but why must u declare them around enemy soldiers? how is this helpful 2 ur cause? u cant fight if ur dead” 

“you'd b surprised how effective martyrs are” 

cue enraged henry noises 

alexs gaze turns hard “listen i  appreciate/the advice” he says sarcastically “but I dont need an enemy telling me what to do. I can take care of myself” 

there's a stirring in alexs chest after he removes henry's hand and stalks off that he's pretty sure is anger

like it can't be anything else 

while alex is trying to convince himself of that, the tensions boil over + soon the two sides are on the brink of war then the fighting starts

henry + alex don't talk much for a while bc they're both busy on their sides preparing

school is on hold during the war so alex + his friends are looking to serve + bring glory to their names 

alex esp is recognized for his intelligence + becomes the recognized general rafael lunas secretary

luna is the george washington figure in this case who is impressed by alex wants him as his right-hand man

alex is disappointed his role is not on the battlefield bc he knows he has a good tactical mind + he could change the tide of a losing war + gain honor and status thru it, which would put him in a good position to be elected in the future

as secretary, alex is in charge of a lot of important correspondence eg for more supplies + men, so the motherland soldiers figure ambushing him off the battlefield would make things hard for the colonists

henry overhears this plan + immediately worries for alex's safety but he's cornered by another soldier to talk strategy + misses the chance to take out the men then

henry manages to catch that they're going to attack alex at night when he leaves + henry arrives just in time to kill them in a panic

alex hears the gunshot + yells “drop ur weapon”, drawing his own gun

henry obviously does + alex inspects the scene he keeps a gun fixed on henry

“what's going on?” he asks, eyeing henry w/ suspicion

henry explains everything + looks positively terrified bc he just betrayed his side even tho the motherland and his family has treated him like shit since he came out but still. 

becoming an outright traitor is not something henry ever planned + leaving behind everything he's ever known w no hope of ever going back is terrifying

but he also doesn't regret protecting alex

alex questions henry but can quickly tell henry is sincere + is telling the truth

henry explains his change of heart + they have a heartfelt moment in/just outside luna's office.

alex almost died + henry just switched sides, emotions are running high and they escalate into a kiss. the moon is out + it's all very romantic but they don't admit their feelings yet

soon after they go to luna, explain the situation + talk w the other generals/people in charge

henry is sent away on an assignment + is watched closely at first but he proves his loyalty quickly

henry and alex write letters back + forth that turn into love letters 

besides managing correspondence for luna, some of alexs ideas of sneak attacks/stealing supplies help turn the tide of the war andhe also writes to other countries for foreign aid

eventually the colonists win in this huge up start that no one anticipated bc the motherland is known as the most powerful country in the world

he + henry reunite in the capital of once the war is over

alex finishes up his studies + practices law + soon is chosen to be part of the new lawmaking body

things are going pretty well for alex w his legal + political success and his relationship with henry

they dont live together but theyre dating tho no one else knows

alex pretends to be single instead + says he doesn't want to be tied down

it works while he's still in his early 20s but as he gets closer to 30, people start to find it strange + tell him he needs to settle

being married to his work is also not a valid excuse anymore

it turns out alex made quite a few political enemies due to his strong opinions that he always vocalises + can be unwilling to compromise on

they don't like his ideas or more often hate him and hence his ideas too

they look for some dirt on him bc atm he has lunas support which has a lot of sway + decide they need to find out why he hasn't married

they manage to find out about henry + threaten to tell the public

alex is obviously distraught re the consequences personally + politically

so alex and henry discuss what to do 

henry is willing to put alexs political career 1st but firmly explains their relationship can't continue if that's the case

henry gave up his whole life + any possibility of going back to his family so he's not willing to be someone's dirty little secret  

alex doesn't know what to do so he goes to consult luna who he's become very close with over the years

luna is not quite old enough to be his father but he's like an uncle + he always calls alex “kid”, much to alex's annoyance

but alex knows he'll have some good advice

alex + luna end up having a long conversation

like washington luna has always been very vocal abt his regrets re his naivety + desire for glory back in his youth

hes always said that this was his greatest regret in life. but then he tells alex like he had another great regret in life- letting go of the love of his life

alex is surprised bc luna's never mentioned anyone special

“who is she?” 

“he” luna corrects “he was my best friend. we had something a relationship but it was short-lived bc I decided I wanted to join the military + attain glory. i thought thats what i wanted in life. turns out that stuff is meaningless w/o anyone to share it w. nor did I even achieve it. perhaps i did accomplish some things but now in my retirement I have no one by my side. i have found that life is meaningless without love and family.  

“i tried to find my friend to reconnect after all these years even as simply friends but he died in the war. alex, I see many similarities between us. don't make the same mistake that I did, alexander. glory + lasting legacy mean nothing if you're alone in the end

“if you make choices that are motivated by love and family you will be a lot happier”

alex takes his advice even though he kind of hates sort of giving up to his enemies

he decides to choose henry and his own happiness over politics bc in the end he's done a lot of good work and that much is enough

also his enemies probably would try to blackmail him throughout his career if he was doing something against their interests

so he + henry leave the capital and move uptown and the two of them have a quiet retirement + engage in philanthropy for the rest of their lives

separately they've amassed a decent amount of money - henry kept a portion of his inheritance despite being unofficially disowned and alex made a lot of money as a lawyer and then politician

as it turns out alex still has a tangential role in politics when some of his former allies go to him for advice

all in all, alex happy with his final decision to be with henry and step away from politics

the two of them live happy and full lives together

The Second Time - An L.A. by Night fanfic

Annabelle and Jasper told themselves last time would be the only time. They were wrong. She can't stop thinking about it and wants to go again. 

SPOILERS for the end of Campaign 1, but not yet for the one-shots. This is going to go off canon pretty quickly, so consider this an AU. It's worth reading Part 1 (The First Time) before you read this. I obviously don’t lay claim to any of the characters involved. This fanfiction is part two in a multi-part Jasper/Annabelle fic. It is intended for a mature audience. Written before the premiere of Season 2.

The Second Time

They had promised themselves, after that first time, that it wouldn’t happen again. That it wouldn’t become an ongoing thing. It was just a one-off, to help Jasper out for a night, to give him a little more time to find another feeding option.

But she had been dreaming about him, about his fangs in her wrist and the pain and pleasure it had brought her body. She found herself staring at him more often during coterie meetings, watching Jasper as he bantered with Victor. She had never noticed before now just how often his fangs could be seen, his habit of running his tongue over them while he considered what to say. Every time he did it, she could feel a nervous little coil in her belly. It was like when she first realised she had a mad crush on Elleanore. It was excitement. It was arousal. And its source was one hundred percent unexpected.

Sometimes, he would glance at her, and they would share a private smile. Sometimes, she would catch him staring at her too. She was glad that vampires couldn’t blush without conscious effort.

Shortly before dawn a few weeks later, she was sitting on her bed with her phone in her hands. She was nervous. She felt like a teenager again. She had texts to Jasper open on her screen. This was not the coterie group chat, oh no. No way. This was private, or so she hoped. Just to him. Her thumbs hovered over the screen as the thought about what to send to him. She knew she had to send something. This had been eating at her mind for a while now.

She settled on a greeting to start with. “Hey, Jasper. You still up?” she texted. She bit her lip while she waited for a reply. Even if he read it right away, with his shitty old phone it would still take him a while to get back to her.

A few minutes later, his reply came. “Yes. U?”

She exhaled in relief and some excitement. “Yeah.” She hesitated, then continued. “This is just between you and me. No group chat. I want to talk.” She hit send.

“Ok. What about?”

“Have you...” she hesitated again. She closed her eyes and banged her head lightly on the wall. This was so stupid! She couldn't believe she was doing this. “... found anyone else to eat with yet?” She hoped he would get her meaning.

“No.”

She sighed. She had figured as much. Every time Victor asked about it, which wasn't very often, Jasper had shrugged and gave a non-committal “I'm fine, it's under control,” kind of answer.

“You hungry?”

“Always.”

She groaned to herself. “I mean more than usual.”

His next reply took a little longer. Why? She wished she could know what was going through his mind. “Yes.”

“Want to...” she paused and tried to think of how to phrase this, “get a bite with me?” She resisted the urge to add some kind of emoji. Jasper definitely wasn't the type.

There was another long pause before he replied. It was long enough that she had to wake up her screen a few times. It was long enough to make her curse herself. This was a mistake! She shouldn't have-

“Sure. If you'd like.”

She stared at the screen, its light illuminating her hopeful face. She bit her lip again. “Yeah? Same as before?”

Another long pause. She wondered if he was sitting on his bed too, texting her with the lights off.

“Ok.”

Annabelle laughed softly to herself. He wasn't a big texting conversationalist. Again, she resisted to urge to add emojis. She knew her audience. “Same time, same place?”

“Come around 3.”

She nodded to herself as her thumbs moved on the screen. “Ok, see you then. Sleep well.”

“U 2.”

She smirked and put her phone down to sleep.

The next night, around 3:00 am, she found herself waiting outside the front door to Jasper's sanctum. She was twitchy with excitement. If she could sweat, she would have. More than once, she scolded herself for acting this way. This shouldn't be that big of a deal, really. It was just a little bite. A few seconds of...

bliss

No! Of...

euphoria

She sighed again. What the hell was she doing? This was Jasper she was thinking about! Jasper! The Nosferatu! Her friend! There was no way she should feel this way!

But she did, that was the problem. She did. It was that bite that had done it. Although he was the one who had done all the work, she felt like she was the one who had sinned. How did the line from Rocky Horror go? “I've tasted blood and I want more...”

“More, more, more!”

A bright flash in the sky knocked her out of her thoughts, closely followed by sudden loud sound of thunder rumbling angrily nearby. She looked up. The sky was pitch black, rolling thunderclouds. The forecast had called for light rain, but it looked like something much bigger was brewing. Any minute now, it was going to bucket down. She had better get inside. She clenched her fists, staring at the door. It was now or never. She knocked, just loudly enough that she hoped he heard it. It echoed metallically down the passage beyond.

She thought it would take him a minute to answer the door, but it only took a second. He must have been waiting just on the other side. She jumped a little, startled when the hatch opened so soon after her knock. Jasper's pale face, haloed in his black hoodie, peeked out. He smiled when he saw her. “Hey.”

“Hey,” she replied, with a nervous little wave.

“Come on inside. It's going to rain,” he said stepping back into the darkness. As she followed, she felt the first few drops land on her head.

Once again, they made sure the door was secure before heading down into the heart of Jasper's home. The sounds of rain outside were very much muffled by the time they got down through his small maze. Jasper was quiet. Annabelle was too, but her nerves were still coiled like a spring. Jasper must have noticed this, because just outside of the room with the cage in it, he paused and put a hand on her shoulder.

“Relax,” he told her.

She giggled. “I am relaxed!” she lied badly.

He arched an eyebrow at her in disbelief. He put his other hand on her other shoulder, squaring off with her. They hasn't touched each other once between now and the last time she had been here. She realised she had been slightly starved for it.

“Relax,” he said again. His eyes stared into hers. His gaze was still intense, but there was an odd softness in it she didn't see him use often on other people. “We don't have to do this if you don't want to. We can just... hang out. Talk. Maybe listen to some music.”

“No, I... I do want to do this, Jasper. I want to help you.”

She could see his tongue moving in his closed mouth, running over his fangs, perhaps in anticipation. “Okay. But we don't have to leap in right away. Come on.”

He lead her through into his lounge again. She only glanced at the cage in the corner of the room briefly, but long enough to note that it had a new lock on it.

Annabelle sat in the same chair she had last time, and Jasper sat in his. More thunder rumbled overhead, and they both looked up to the stone ceiling. It must have been loud outside for them to hear it all the way down where they were. Jasper's lamp flickered ominously. Annabelle chuckled uneasily. “Hell of a storm, huh?”

“Yeah,” Jasper agreed. He didn't seem massively bothered by it. “I didn't think it was going to rain this hard, but it's good. The state needs it.”

Annabelle nodded. They had both heard about the horrible fires recently. It was scary how close they had gotten to the city, and of how many lives and homes had been lost. “I hope the lightning doesn't start any more fires.”

“Yeah, I hope not either, but we'll be safe down here.”

“Does this place leak?”

“No,” he smirked proudly. “Even if the river floods, I've made sure that the water can't reach down here. It's more inconvenient than anything, because if it does flood, it means there's only one other way out.”

“What way's that?”

Jasper looked deliberately at the big, metal door that lead to the labyrinth. Annabelle's eyes went wide.

“Oh no!” she exclaimed. “No, I'm not going back in there!”

Jasper put a hand on her knee. The gesture was familiar and comforting, and brought back memories for both of them of the last time they were in this room. “You don't have to go back through there. I won't make you do that.”

She sighed, forcing herself to let go of some of the tension in her muscles. “Okay. Thanks.”

Jasper smiled. He pulled back to lower his hood again. Annabelle gazed at his black veins. “Do they go all the way down?” she asked, surprising both herself and him with the question.

He licked his fangs. Her stomach fluttered.

“Yeah,” he answered.

“Can I...” Annabelle stopped herself.

He arched another eyebrow at her. “Can you what?”

“Can I see? Please?” she asked softly.

Jasper thought about it for a moment, then shook his head. “I'd rather not. Not tonight.”

“Okay.” Annabelle looked away, fidgeting with her hands in her lap.

“You're still nervous,” Jasper observed. “Why are you freaking out?”

She sighed, not looking at him. “I guess... I don't know.” She continued to fidget. She could feel Jasper's eyes on her. Thunder rumbled again, far above. “Last time... I liked it, like, really, really liked it. A lot more than I thought it would, and... I can't stop thinking about it. I know that we said this wouldn't be a thing we would keep doing, but, I...” she trailed off. She was trying not to cry.

She felt Jasper's hand on her knee again. She could see his long, white fingers contrasting hard against her dark denim. He had peeling black nail polish on. “I think I know how you feel, at least a little,” he explained softly. “When a Kindred tastes another Kindred's blood, they get a feeling for their emotions. Vitae is kind of... magical in that way. I also had an inkling of where you were these past few weeks.”

She looked up into his unearthly pale face. “You did?”

He nodded. “Yeah. It's a side-effect. If we do this again, that will get stronger.”

“Was it like that for... the others you've fed on?”

He nodded again. “Yeah.”

“Will... my feelings get stronger?”

“I don't know. The bite, or the Kiss as the fancier vampires call it...”

Annabelle couldn’t help but smile, just a little.

“It's supposed to feel good,” Jasper continued. “As I mentioned last time, it's to help make sure the, um, victim doesn't get away, doesn't want to get away. So... yeah. It will probably feel good for you again, if we do this again. But... the more often we do this, Annabelle, the more often we will want to keep doing this. It could become a difficult cycle to break.”

Annabelle listened intently. She appreciated him laying all this out for her, and letting her make her own decisions about it. She had always been one to follow her heart, even when that sometimes led her into foolish or dangerous situations. Ignoring temporarily how amazing Jasper's bite had made her feel, she was still uncomfortable with him not having a reliable source to feed from. She hated seeing any of her friends suffer, and this never-ending hunger they all went through was torture. Besides, otherwise, Jasper would be out there stalking for some, well, maybe not innocent, but some non-consenting victim. She didn't want that.

She could feel herself calming down. Her anxiety drained away somewhat. She put her hand onto his, mirroring again how she had touched him last time. When the thunder called in the distance, she ignored it. She looked into his eyes and her gaze was steady, as was her voice. “I want to do it again.”

He smiled. He looked hopeful. He was looking forward to this too, she realised. Well, of course he was. Consent is an amazing and sexy thing. “Okay.”

The lights flickered again, violently. Annabelle glanced at the lamp, worried. “What do we do if you lose power? Do you have candles?”

Jasper sighed in exasperation and gave her a flat look that just screamed “you've got to be kidding me!” She realised her mistake and face palmed.

“Ugh, no! Fire bad!”

“Yes, fire very bad, Annabelle,” he scolded. “I'd be a poor excuse for a vampire if I were afraid of the dark.” His voice softened a touch. “Why? Are you?”

“Maybe... a little?” she admitted.

“Don't be. The scariest thing in here is me,” he assured her honestly.

She smiled again.

The lights suddenly died. Every single one. They were in complete blackness.

Annabelle flinched despite herself. She felt Jasper give her knee a squeeze. It made very little difference if she had her eyes open or closed, it was so dark. She was practically blind.

“It's alright,” Jasper said in the darkness.

“Yeah...” Annabelle forced herself to relax again. Jasper was right. He was the scariest thing there, and nothing would dare hurt them in his home.

“Do you still want to go through with it?”

“Yeah,” Annabelle said. Then, thinking about it further, a feeling of daring welled up inside her. This darkness could maybe be useful in a rather... kinky way. “Actually, yes,” she said, her voice more confidant. “I think I'm ready. Just... give me a second...”

She wriggled out of her jacket and tried to leave it on the back of the chair again, but she heard it slip off and fall to the floor. “Oops. Damn,” she mumbled.

“Don't worry about it,” Jasper said. He sounded amused. “We'll find it later.”

Annabelle heard him move. He kept his hand on her, reassuring. She appreciated it. She trailed her hand gently up his arm to his chest and shoulder and discovered that he was kneeling in front of her again. She gulped. That feeling of anticipation returned in her gut. Butterflies, she realised. He was giving her butterflies in her stomach. It really did remind her of her first few weeks in a new relationship with Mark and Elleanor. What would they think if they could see her now?

Jasper's hands found Annabelle's. She could feel his cold fingers on her palm and wrist, the same one as before. Something about not being able to see him made this all the more exciting. It made her remaining senses tingle. She kept her other hand on her knee.

“Ready?” Jasper asked. She couldn’t feel any breath on her skin, even though his face was so close to her hand. He was holding her gently again, so she could pull away if she wanted to. He sounded thirsty.

She nodded, then realised he probably couldn’t see that. “Yes,” she said firmly.

There was no light to catch the flash of his fangs this time, but she still felt them sink into her wrist. There was the pain, then the pleasure rippled up and into her core. She let out a soft, slow gasp at the sensation. Her toes curled in her shoes. Her Beast squirmed and wriggled. She felt herself bearing her own fangs a little, in the darkness.

He was licking and sucking on her slowly, tenderly, drawing her Vitae out and into himself. His bite was as tender as last time, and like last time, she could tell even in the zero light that he was holding back. In a sudden burst of enthusiasm, she reached over and found his head in the darkness with her free hand. His skin was cold and inhuman and in another circumstance, in another life, she would have been repulsed to her core. Right now, however, her fingers found the back of his head and pressed him gently, but firmly closer to her. She was offering him more, encouraging him to bite harder.

He did. His Beast didn't need to be asked twice. She felt more pressure from his jaws, more teeth against her skin. His fangs pushed deeper. More Vitae came out as more pleasure surged back in.

She moaned, ever so softly.

She could hear him growl. She felt the vibrations of it up her arm. It made her shiver. The sensations intensified another degree. She bit back another little moan.

Far above them, the thunder rolled across the night sky as the storm lashed the city.

Annabelle lost track of how long Jasper's mouth stayed on her wrist, or rather low long she urged him to keep it there. She could feel, through her pleasurable brain fog, her Beast writhing, as if in a panic. Her head swam. After what felt like a year, Jasper pulled back with a little jerk, forcing himself away. He give her wrist a final long lick, not letting any precious Vitae escape. Then he took both her hands in his and shifted his weight a little closer, with his long legs curled up under himself. He sat at her feet and listened to her pant and come down from the high of his vampiric kiss. His Beast snarled away in his chest and throat, demanding he finish the job properly. He gritted his teeth against it. He had taken more from her than last time, maybe a little too much more. He tried not to beat himself up about it. Annabelle knew full well what she was getting herself into, he had made sure of that.

Jasper counted slowly to twenty, then softly asked “Annabelle?”

“Mmm?” she sighed.

He felt a smile creep onto his face. “You okay?”

“Mm-hmm...” she sighed again, happily.

“I took more that time. Sorry.”

“'s okay... Jasper...” she squeezed his hands weakly. “I wanted you to...”

“Yeah, I uh, noticed.” He plainly remembered her desperate touch on the back of his head, driving him to take more of her. “How do you feel?”

“Mmm... tired. Dizzy...” she moaned again softly. “Goooood...”

He smiled and let his forehead rest against their hands on Annabelle's lap. He had to admit to himself he liked how pleased Annabelle sounded. It was as if she got as much out of the feeding as he did.

He could hear the distant sound of the storm, especially the heavy rushing of water. It was as he predicted. The L.A. River was flooding. Normally, it was little more than a weak drainage ditch, but when it rained, the concrete and glass of the city couldn’t absorb the water and it all got pushed into the river. The artificial concrete river bed offered the water no resistance as it sped along into the Pacific. It did mean, however, that getting out through his front door would be very difficult, especially if Annabelle didn't want to get soaked.

“The river has risen,” he said.

“Mmm?”

“I said, the river has risen. You won't be able to get out of here tonight, unless you want to swim.”

That seemed to bring her back to her senses somewhat. He felt her shift in her seat, but not pull away from him. “Oh. Shit. Um... I guess I'll have to stay here then?” She sounded a tiny bit nervous, like he might say no.

At that moment, he felt like he wouldn’t be able to deny her anything, least of which, a safe place to sleep. “Of course, you're welcome to stay,” he said. His head was still resting against her lap. He felt oddly comfortable there.

“Thanks,” Annabelle murmured.

Jasper looked up suddenly, at where he thought her face to be, with a sudden concern. “How hungry are you?”

“Um... a bit,” she admitted, feeling her Beast continue to squirm in her chest, “but I'll be okay until tomorrow.”

“Are you sure?” Jasper pressed.

She thought about it for another moment, then give his hands another, slightly stronger squeeze. “Yeah, I'm sure.”

Jasper relaxed. “Good.”

He spent another minute or so sitting on the floor at Annabelle's feet, holding her hands in the darkness, his head resting comfortably in her lap. It took her longer to recover from this one, which made sense given the larger amount of blood he has taken from her. It had spooked her Beast somewhat, but Annabelle pressed back down hard on that fear and snuffed it out. Jasper had stopped. He had pulled back without drinking her completely. She had gotten to a state, almost, where she wondered if she could have stopped him if she had wanted to. Part of her doubted that she could have. It scared her and thrilled her. It also strengthened her trust for Jasper. She thought that his control over his Beast was powerful, indeed. Much better, certainly, than, say... Victor had over his. She felt strangely proud of Jasper. Very strange indeed.

Time passed. The storm raged on for several more hours, turning the L.A. River into a dangerous, uncrossable wall of water, barricading them inside Jasper's sanctum.

After a while, Annabelle pulled herself gently away from Jasper. She heard and felt him shift and move, quite reluctantly, she thought, away from her and back up into his chair. She checked her phone, wincing at the bright light from the screen. Dawn was still a few hours off, but close enough that if she were to be heading home, now would be the time. She glanced up at Jasper before the light from her phone died and saw his ghost-like paleness in the dark. It was very creepy, but she smiled.

“You look very spooky,” she told him.

He grinned, showing fangs that were once again spotlessly clean. Her insides squirmed. The dim phone light, wanting to conserve battery power, turned itself off.

They spent the next few hours talking, mostly about music and various bands they both liked. She liked how current Jasper's taste in music was, over all, but was surprised to find out that he loved classical as well. He had been trying to learn a Rachmaninoff piece on the piano, a long time ago, but had been able to get it right to his satisfaction.

Annabelle was mildly startled when she received a buzz on her phone from Nelli, making sure she wasn't out in the storm. She showed the text to Jasper, who found it amusing.

“She's a lot more maternal than she'd like to admit,” Jasper chuckled.

“Yep, she sure is,” Annabelle smirked, and texted back that she was “fine, thanks mom. ;)”
