watching the james somerton apology video so you don't have to. this isn't entirely comprehensive, just a summary, if you want the nuance of his exact wording please just go watch the video

opens by saying he's monetizing the video to donate the money to hbomb's team so they can distribute it to the harmed individuals, and if hbomb's team don't accept he'll be making monthly donos to wikipedia and trans lifeline going forward

talkign about how he's a bad representative of "the queer community" as a cis white gay man

he's reached out to as many people he harmed as he can, some haven't responded but others have been incredibly kind

he's extending a specific apology to Jessie Gender - he wants to be clear that he didn't report Jessie to the police, as is the common understanding, but a fan of Jessie's who sent him a death threat

wanted his channel to be "welcoming to every queer person" which is impossible - he says he should have made voices that aren't his more accessible, but he didn't

blaming the algorithm for his popularity over queer creators of colour, disabled queers, etc

he thought that crediting people in the opening credits of videos was enough, but he admits he was wrong - people should have been properly cited (personal note: come on man you went to business school. you know how citations work.)

he has obtained permission for use of sources in the past, but "most of the sources" he didn't get permission for

brought Nick on with the idea that Nick would write most of the scripts and James would voice them

I want to be clear here that we need to respect James' disabilities, regardless of how much of a plagiarist he is. however as someone with memory problems I don't buy that it caused him to entirely forget to cite sources over many, many hours of work that he did to churn out these videos.

My theory towards the deleted/non-deleted posts, is that, if the rumors are to be believed, they've been together for several months and like I said wanted to start taking stuff down (probably something they came up with together) so that removing their S-O's from their pages would just be seen as part of the 'cleaning-up' process lots of celebs go through with their social media right before a big release (like Wicked is supposed to be). (1/2) Ethan for one was famously relatively private with his relationship, especially because some of the more rabid fans liked to attack his wife, so I think he might have thought he'd get away with it on the premise of 'protecting her and their son' and keeping them out of the spotlight. Like I said, I don't want to spread rumors but I can't help believing that this has been months in the works, they got caught or photographed together, and had to come up with something before it got out. (2.5) Also, I'm getting the sense that Ethan, like many of us, woke up to the story being splashed all over the front of every website imaginable, quickly privated his Instagram (whether he did that on his own or Ariana/one of his/her reps told him to do that is neither here nor there), and just hasn't opened the app since, hence why other pictures are still up. If the tabloids are to be believed and his wife truly was blindsided, I think he'd have more pressing concerns than opening Instagram. (Sorry this ended up being 4 messages, Tumblr asks are short) At first I thought that their comments being off had something to do with Wicked or something, but none of the other cast had that. Someone on Reddit also said that back in April Ethan and Ariana briefly unfollowed/blocked one another, so the theory is that they had a fight or something then and were playing up their KNOWN relationships (Ari with her anniversary, Ethan with mother's day) around that time to make everything seem A-OK.

Yeah, that makes sense. Like, if it's true, I starting to wonder how long this has really been going on. I've seen some people mention how in the Mother's Day post Ethan called Lilly "the most wonderful mom/person" and that it seemed distant. So if anything that's probably when they separated, and the tabloids are just pushing the "she was blindsided!" thing for clicks. And on good terms since he still admires her as a person. (Page Six is not a reliable source, so I don't trust those articles)

Another question I have is if they have ever been seen in public together? A lot of articles are citing those pics from Michelle Yeoh’s party as proof of their relationship, but I don’t think so. Ethan publicly shared some of those pics to his stories, and he was wearing his wedding ring so I think they were just at that party as castmates. Then there was that pic posted by a fan in March. I remember the block/unblock thing back in April, but I assumed it was just a glitch and wasn’t purposeful. We haven’t seen any pics of them since then. I think we’ve seen more pics of Ariana with Bowen and Cynthia than we have with her with Ethan.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Ethan has been chronically off-line this whole year, and I’m starting to wonder if this has something to do with it.

Ugh. You won't believe this. I'm sorry to bug you, but I just needed to vent.

I saw some idiot on twitter saying that when E met Priscilla he had an eleven year old girl living with him in Germany. They mentioned Scotty Moore said that in his book so I looked it up. What he said was at the time E met Cilla, he had an "even younger German girl" (his words) living in the house with his father and grandmother. Except...well, I can't find any proof of this; there’s no evidence nor mention of this girl (or how old she was) anywhere else in the book nor in any other books written about him. No proof he had anyone else like that living with him in Germany.

So I don’t think that claim is true. Where do people come up with this stuff anyway? How do you not get into an argument with these idiots? Because it's super annoying.

people who claim to hate elvis sure spend an awful lot of time reviling him on the internet, especially by regurgitating half-remembered anecdotal evidence without citing their sources. 🙄 on the other hand, it's also easy to fall into the trap of too-faithful elvis historian; by that i mean that the fact that so much of his life is documented sometimes makes us complacent in our belief that if it can't be verified by multiple primary sources that it must not have happened. but we can't always say, and getting too involved as if the historical accuracy of one particular proposed event is the end-all be-all of elvis fandom can get exhausting.!

i wouldn't be surprised to find out either way, that this was or wasn't true. but you're free to make up your own mind, and if it distresses you, then fwiw i think you Totally have a leg to stand on affirming it never happened, like you said !! ultimately, it doesn't have much bearing on right now- if you like elvis, this vague and nebulous criticism probably isn't the thing that'll make you stop liking elvis, and if you hate elvis, you're probably determined to keep doing that regardless.

regarding the twitdiots- while looking into this claim i found a lady on there who legitimately believed that agent elvis tells the true story of how e was experimented on and mind controlled into drug abuse by the government.. like she said That with her whooole chest. so i don't put much stock in public opinion over there 😂😂💀

i want to fight those people extremely often (they're not just on twitter, either- it seems to have died down a little praise GOD but especially in early days after the movie there was a wave of ppl on here who would put their elvis hate in the main tags. WHICH DROVE ME BATTY), but i come from the "don't feed the trolls" era of fandom. as much as id like to rip 'em a new one when they rehash the same two issues over and over and OVER again ad nauseum, i content myself with the fact that they're living a pathetic existence in which they actively choose to fill their life with something they dislike for... no discernable reason.?

Our society is so myopic

Which is ironic because I wear glasses.

But what I mean is, I can't stop thinking about the conversation I had on my lunch. My coworker asked if I got the job at the one place, and I said, no, I think my uncertainty got in my way. She said she interviewed there to cashier and they said she wasn't qualified for the job, when that's all she's done since she's been working. She said (at least a little bitterly) that she wouldn't work there anyway because one of the people who interviewed her was trans, and extra, y'know? I mentioned I think gender transitioning is the lobotomy of this century, and that people only feel like they need to entirely, visually change their gender so they can be the right gender, but if there was less emphasis on genitals, and more on you as an individual, and more acceptance of things like men being carers and nurturers.

She said, it's not right, that she'd rather a woman looked after her son. I mentioned that women can be just as creepy as men--think those female teachers who "seduce" their high school or middle school male students. She mentioned priests, that you don't hear of a lot of girls being messed with by priests.

An opportunity opened up for me to bring up my favourite bible fact, the oft abused "thou shalt not lie with man". I'm strongly camp "the bible in its most original form doesn't give a shit about homosexuality".

And this is what I'm here for tonight:

The greater context

The ancient Greeks were so gay, their society failed. Yes, I know I'm greatly, massively exaggerating. But the Greeks were equally, massively gay. Unless I'm conflating them with the Romans, who were also So Gay ™. But seriously, the Greeks were so gay, they had standards for a beautiful penis, see the Adonis or any other nude, male, ancient Greek sculpture. They slathered athletes in oil and collected and treasured that sweaty oil. Only men could be athletes.

Beyond that, there are more cultures than just Christianity, and they have different opinions than Christians. I literally cannot cite my sources because when I Google "bum boy" all I get are rants about baggy pants and when I Google "silk road" all I get are articles about that scam that happened and I do not know how to use Google better. Edit: Nor, apparently, DDG. My point is, I remember reading somewhere that they would take "boys", whether that meant slaves or actually pre/pubescent boys, on ships or voyages so that men could still have, y'know, a warm hole. I swear I remember reading this.

Anyway, we all know the bible is just a book. Christianity, we forget, is a very young religion, relatively speaking. It branched off from Judaism and only took off with the Roman empire. It's easy to imagine that outside of the confines of "society", such as on the Silk Road, or other such mercenary expeditions, it would've been easy to be who you really were--perhaps a pagan, or somebody who could care less about the Sabbath or what the bible said about mixing textiles.

Also, we should all remember that traditionally, for centuries, women were property and marriage was a business transaction. No one married for love, and the more I learn about history, the more realistic it seems to believe that a) pre-industrial revolution humans had more freetime, which means b) if they found love as we think of it, they would just pursue it because that's just what you do. Additionally, for centuries, women have been going to war, men have been dressing up as women; men have been fucking men and women have been sexually satisfying each other because men just cannot be bothered.

Instead, we just lazily want to throw our hands in the air and blame Those Damn Liberals ™, because things used to be so much easier In the Olden Days™. We can't understand why the first generations to get married "for love" couldn't stay married. We can't understand why men want to fuck men and we can't accept that men have emotions and we can't accept that some men think they want to be women and some women think they want to be men. What's next, conservatives despair, humans wanting to be accepted for fucking children and animals?! Um, no. Those things are not acceptable in a world where we know children are not small adults, but rather developing brains inside of tiny bodies. And it's never really anywhere in the world been acceptable to fuck animals.

I'm losing all track of my thoughts.

Another point I want to bring up is that manufactured beds as we think of them are also a modern convenience, and historically, the bed might have been entirely "manufactured" by the woman--from harvesting and spinning the fibers, to weaving the cloth, harvesting the filling, and maintaining the tension. That was her bed, insofar as it was the place for conceiving children. Not fucking your neighbor Bob.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The institutional inferiority of black people was invented and exacerbated by the slave culture of the United States, but we're slowly fighting to change that. The United States was the birth place of marriage for love, for the sake of selling diamonds, but that's some bullshit that only took the internet to crumble. Speaking of the internet, the internet is how we know there are centuries of records of men dressing like women, women dressing like women, men loving men and women loving women.

But our culture is so myopic, we don't want to fully imagine history. We don't want to imagine real people; we want to imagine a vignette that looks how we imagine it should. History is so intangible to people who are incurious and want to be spoonfed only what they want to hear and nothing more.

So instead of working on my patterns, I've spent half an hour of my life attempting to research this post and an hour of my life writing it to complain that no one wants to imagine for a second that the social issues that are out in the open today aren't new.
