In light of the Colleen Ballinger situation I want to offer my advice on keeping your kids safe online as a parent
DISCLAIMER: This works for my family with my child. YMMV as every child is different and has different development needs. This is just what we do that works for us
1. Start off by making it clear you're on your kids side by showing trust in them and making yourself safe to come to
This doesn't mean leaving your kids unsupervised or just taking what they say as face value. I mean telling them that you trust them you don't trust strangers on the internet and that's why you need to supervise
Back when my kid was going online and watching online content for the first time the rule was no headphones and in the room with us. But we always always explained that while we trusted Kiddo we did not know the adults online and they had to earn our trust.
Alongside that we have always always made it clear that if they come across something that makes them uncomfortable or someone messages them and makes them uncomfortable they can come to us and we will never be angry with them.
Even if they sought out content that they know they shouldn't or went on parts of the internet clearly not meant for children because they are curious. They will not be punished. We will have a discussion about choices and decisions and there may be consequences but no one will be angry and there will be no punishment. This has made Kiddo feel safe coming to me with stuff
2. If possible instead of outright banning explain why you don't approve of something
I believe banning stuff just makes sneaky kids.
Kiddo was, when they were much younger, watching a family channel. Not any of the famous ones but I was still uncomfortable after a few videos. So I said that which led to this conversation.
Kiddo: why?
Me: I feel like they are kinda exploiting their kids
Kiddo: but the kids seem to like making the videos
Me: yeah but this seems to be a full time thing. They make a LOT of videos and when do the kids get to rest? What about school? What about privacy? It just feels kinda icky to me and I think the parents should be prioritising letting their kids be kids
Kiddo finished watching the video they have paused when I started talking about and really thought about what I said. After that they chose not to watch that family anymore
I didn't tell them they couldn't and I didn't keep saying it. I explained my thoughts and let my kid process my argument and come to their own conclusion
3. Have an ongoing discussion about parasocial relationships and healthy boundaries
We have talked a lot about how we understand that watching a YouTubers especially feels like you're talking to a friend or that you have a relationship with them and are invested in their private life. Because it is much different and more intimate way of connecting with an audience
But they are not your friends and they don't know who you are. And that's not a bad thing but it is something you have to keep in mind when you're online. But I really think it helps to enter these discussions by understanding why it feels so personal
4. Warn them that online "challenges" have potential to be cover for something more nefarious
We told kiddo an edited version of this but comedian Katherine Ryan tells a story about how she got tricked into making inflation porn by some guy who told her it was for a radio contest
Taking part in challenges are risky not only for that reason but can also be physically dangerous (see: the cinnamon challenge)
5. Let them have as much privacy as possible while still being safe
My kid is now 14. We have rules in place for who they can talk to online (they need to know at least one person in irl and they can't DM anyone they haven't met face to face. We need to be aware of who they are chatting to and where online they are doing it)
We also have rules for what social media they can have and what they can post to it and who the can follow
But we don't go through their phone and read their messages
Because we have established trust and being a safe place with Kiddo they are very open with what's in their phone anyway. I don't have to snoop to find out about their life. The tell me shit
6. Remind them that the internet is forever and going viral isn't necessarily a good thing
I really recommend playing Rebecca Black's Friday for them and then play this video about how that impacted her:

And then have a discussion about how difficult and humiliating going through something like that could be (this is also good for teaching compassion)
So that's it!
That's all the advice I got at the moment. It's not perfect and I'm sure I've forgotten stuff but I really think it's important to establish as soon as you can that this isn't a power battle between you and your child where you don't trust them and suspect them. If you can lead from "I trust you, I just don't trust strangers on the internet and I have a job to protect you from sketchy strangers" then I think it makes the rest easier
But again I am not an expert I am just a parent and this is my experience
Is my kid still cooking? Yes
Does that mean you should take my advice with a heaping teaspoon of salt? Probably
But we're doing pretty good with Kiddo so it seems to be working atm. If it stops working I will update this and also change our direction

A site literally called 'Spy.pet' claims to have scraped billions of public Discord messages and wants to sell them
It's an unfortunate reminder not to say things on Discord servers that you wouldn't want repeated elsewhere.
First reported by StackDiary and The Register, a website called Spy.pet claims to have scraped billions of public Discord messages made by almost 620 million users, selling the individual messages and profiles for crypto.
Spy.pet ties message logs to the users who sent them, and also collects Discord aliases and linked social media and Steam accounts—it's basically one stop shopping for any surveillance and harassment needs. Spy.pet further purports to offer an "enterprise option" for anyone looking to train an AI model on the site's library of messages.
The site presents this as a potential option for "federal agents looking for a new source of intel," but I'm not sure what bush league FBI office is looking to outsource that capability here.
Even with all our data already liable to be scrutinized by the government and sold by platform owners, there's a particular sense of violation at seeing it all packaged up and on sale to anyone like this, and Spy.pet's owner seems to take a certain glee in potential objections to the business: A "request removal" link on the site just leads to a .gif of JJ Jameson laughing in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man 2. I don't think J.K. Simmons is actually that flippant about my privacy, thank you very much.
In a statement issued to both the Register and StackDiary, Discord indicated that it is investigating Spy.pet for potential breaches of the company's terms of service: "Discord is committed to protecting the privacy and data of our users. We are currently investigating this matter. If we determine that violations of our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines have occurred, we will take appropriate steps to enforce our policies. We cannot provide further comments as this is an ongoing investigation."
As StackDiary points out, Spy.pet is also likely in violation of several articles from the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation. While we don't get nice consumer protections like that here in the US, the Register argues that Spy.pet's potential sale of children's data could still leave it legally liable in the States as well.
A crypto-fueled private sector surveillance and harassment machine is a lovely new nightmare of the 2020s, and I hope it gets shut down, but it's another valuable reminder not to treat Discord like it's private. What you say in a small, invite-only server with friends will probably stay there unless one of your friends shares it or reports a message to Discord's mod team, but to really be safe, chatting on Discord has to be seen as posting publicly on social media.
So, you know, probably don't leak classified military intel on Discord servers, and just generally don't say anything on there you wouldn't want to see screenshotted and put on Twitter or Reddit. Of course, it would also help if we would just stop making Discord servers for things that shouldn't be Discord servers.

So....I don't generally like to call ppl out on the Internet, but I can't be silent about this, because it's a little creepy and weird (honestly more like a lot creepy). Got served a TikTok today about Jeff and Barcode...
I did mark out the name of the creator, because I'm not trying to send hate their way, but I am very much disgusted by the implications of the text that they put in the TikTok.
Now if you're confused about why this is upsetting, in general with BL characters, the couple names follow a common order--that order being TopBottom. In the case of acting pairs, often fans will take that order and apply it to the actors pairing name, so PayuRain is BossNoeul, WinTeam is BounPrem, etc. The text insinuates that Barcode is becoming the top because he is now taller than Jeff, and may be more muscular. It's feeding into a trope that any gay man who is shorter, slighter of build, must be a bottom. It's giving very much "real men don't get fucked, they do the fucking". Now I would think that it's fairly obvious that this is a damaging and quite misogynistic viewpoint, but I will break it down a little further for you why.
The trope in BL stories of having the bottom be physically smaller, have more delicate features, perhaps behave more 'femininely' is damaging for two specific reasons. It reinforces the misogynistic idea that feminine traits are inherently lesser than masculine ones, and it perpetuates a potentially harmful stereotype, creating the idea that a man must behave a certain way based on what their preference is in bed. Now you may say "well this is just tropes in a show" but there are real world consequences to these ideas. If you interact AT ALL regularly with queer men, you will likely have encountered a man who was bullied and even assaulted because someone perceived them as being 'too feminine'. We know of actual cases of more 'effeminate' men being discriminated against, or being told to tone things down, recently PP Kritt in his performance at the SongShan music festival. There's been an ongoing discussion in China regarding how to make sure men 'stay masculine' even.
And the rigidness around positions portrayed in much of BL, kind of across the board, not even just in East Asian or South East Asian BL, is incredibly inaccurate to actual reality. The reality is that the VAST majority of gay men will engage on both sides of the sexual dynamic. Verses are the norm, no matter what BL would lead you to believe. That's not to say there aren't people and couples with preferences they tend to stick to, there certainly are, but that's not going to be the most common experience.
Now let's step back into the issue I have with this video. It's not okay to speculate publicly on the sexual practices of strangers on the internet. We have NO confirmation of any type of romantic relationship between these men, so speculating on their sexual dynamic is already taking a leap. But even if we DID have confirmation. Even if we were talking about a pair that we know 100% are together like Porsche and Arm, making comments about their sex life openly on Beyonce's internet...not okay. Don't do that. It's wildly inappropriate, and honestly pretty creepy. If you simply MUST speculate, do so in private spaces, like a discord or group chat.
I do also want to point out that beyond the problematic behavior of speculating publicly about a stranger's sexuality, it's simply not your business, in regards to EA and SEA actors it can be dangerous. While most of those countries do not consider homosexuality to be illegal, there are still very few that have legal protections set in place for queer people. Meaning if these men were to lose sponsorships, brand deals, potential roles, because of their 'perceived sexuality' based off of internet rumors--then they may not have any legal recourse against any of those companies. And MANY posts that assert things like this do tag the ship names, meaning it's fairly easily locatable with keyword searches.
So just....think twice before you post speculations about any celebrity's sexuality. And don't publicly discuss the dynamics of an actual real person's sexual preferences. Because it's gross.

So I read all of @mgame1988 's posts about this whole debacle, and the people they were conversing with on their blog, and here's the conclusion I've come to.
This person is, politely as possible, very socially clumsy. (The biggest sin you can be guilty of in the parp/cherp community. 🙄)
They were in a voice chat where the following opinions were misconstrued:
Even if Blaire White is a horrible person, it doesn't excuse transphobia towards her. (Correct!)
Calling a trans person a "Good Trans" is the same as calling a black person "Uncle Tom." (I don't personally agree with this but I understand the sentiment)
Gatekeeping can be used for good or bad. (True.)
Ped0s try to take advantage of the openness of the LGBTQ+ community. (True)
Ped0s have had some success in infiltrating the LGBTQ+ community. (Ehh, not true. Ped0s exist in the general population, so while you can find them in LGBTQ+ populations, it's not to any greater amount than in the general cishet population.
Gatekeeping Ped0s from the LGBTQ+ community is a good thing and good use of gatekeeping. (True)
Kink doesn't belong at pride parades because parades are public. (This is a very subjective opinion, one I very much do not agree with. It doesn't deserve this level of vitriol, however, and it's not that uncommon of an opinion.)
TERF is misused/the word TERF has problems. (It's complicated. It's definitely overused and has become a buzzword that isn't always appropriate to use.)
Using the term TERF to refer to a trans person is like calling a black person Uncle Tom (again, I don't really agree, perhaps even moreso than with Good Trans.)
Blaire White isn't a TERF. (She's not! Blaire White isn't a TERF because she's a conservative, not a radfem.)
Using the N word is bad (true)
...even if you're black. (another really subjective opinion that has a lot of baggage and is constantly debates on within the black community, but not one I have any right to weigh in on. MGame1988 claims they are mixed race, and I just so happened to notice a lot of people weighing in on this particular point are white. Moreover, one of them even used the "I have black friends" defense.)
These things seemed to be generally agreed upon or fairly irrefutable. In subsequent reblogs:
MGame1988 was extremely upset at first and may have potentially misspoke, or at the very least wanted a public apology. (An emotional response.)
This was later walked back to asking for the accusations to be retracted. (Reasonable.)
MGame1988 sent Steve 2 asks, and had an ongoing Tumblr message conversation. (Not thirty messages as Steve claims.)
MGame1988 threatened to go public with how racist/transphobic the MXRP community is. (I mean it does have a problem with both racism and transphobia. This was clearly an emotional response, moreover one made in desperation because they were being ignored. Socially Clumsy imo but it's not like they'd be lying.)
It's not Blackmail. MGame1988 isn't asking to be compensated. Simply acknowledged and for false allegations to be removed from the server. (Not appropriate, to be honest. But as established this person has honestly dogshit social skills.) Actually saying he was going to go public with the information should have been understood as a courtesy. He's well within his right. Blackmail implies he was sharing private information he was not party to. Furthermore, retracting the inflammatory stayements is a really ordinary thing to ask a mod to do. They should be removing inflammatory language when it exists in the server, because it is their job, because they are mods, and they have certainly blocked messages for people saying much less worse things.
I think that about covers everything relevant. That is all the things that we have concrete evidence for. And no I don't believe parp users on what happened in a VC, even if the have people to "corroborate" their story because as a community, y'all have proven time and again that not only do you misconstrue, take things in wildly bad faith and out of context, and just straight up lie, you are also the most perceptible group of people to mob mentality that I have ever met in my damn life. If one parp user jumped off a bridge I would be seriously concerned that dozens more would follow.
As one last addition: y'all need to come to terms with the fact not everyone is a radical leftists or educated on leftism. Most people are left of center, liberals, centrists, or not politically affiliated. That doesn't make them a conservative/republican/right-winger.
TLDR some random socially inept person stumbled onto the MXRP discord and aired some of their opinions, several of which were at worst guilty of centerism, was booted from the server and had an understandable reaction. Ultimately they were mocked and vilified by several users and even the owner put them on blast.
Edit: I realize I didn't break up what happened in the VC and what happened after, I've gone back and done that now. Also, I've realized that calling what he was saying he would do blackmail is bullshit. Edited the post to reflect these things.

i've gone down a my immortal rabbit hole.
obviously i've known what my immortal is since like, 2013/2014. i've read it. what i didn't know is that it has a deep history of conspiracy theories and an ongoing mystery of who the author really is.
so i've been watching some youtube videos of internet sleuths and youtube journalists explaining all the history. the stuff about rose christo is really wild, especially considering the buzzfeed articles talking about her book have not been corrected after the revelation that she did not write my immortal.
anyway.
in one video, the youtuber Sarah Z is explaining her back and forth with Todd through ff.net DMs about his potential identity as the my immortal author (obviously he's not). he starts mentioning something called Critics United in the DMs, which then sends Sarah in the video off on a side bar to explain Critics United -- a neighborhood watch type of group on ff.net, not employed by ff.net, that comments on people's fics if they break any of the ridiculous rules ff.net has in place telling you of the violation and threatening to report the fic for takedown. it also gets placed on a Reportable Offense community dashboard.
memory unlocked! i remember getting one of those comments back in 2015. i had a posted an Angel fic that I really excited about but part of the fic involved internet chat rooms (because in Season 4 Angel mentions something about being known through internet forums). so my fic was basically the internet chat rooms, with story surrounding the chats as well. a comment from someone named catspats31 was the first comment on the fic. they told me they liked my writing, which i was excited about it, but then followed that by saying it broke a certain rule about no chat speak on ff.net.
it was a really disappointing comment to get. i no longer remember my log in information for that account so i can't see the private messages but i'm pretty sure i remember doing a back and forth with them about how ridiculous that rule was and explained why the chat room parts of the story were necessary for my story set up. in their comment they even told me a "better way to write it." which is just, fucking rude.
the comment is still there. the profile for that person is still active. they are still monitoring people's fics on ff.net to this day. and i'm just like, why?? why is that the thing you've decided to do with your time?
i never finished that story. that comment was partly why.
ff.net has been dead to me for years but this was a nice reminder of why :)
seriously though, how has the internet evolved so much since 2006 but we still don't know who authored my immortal? and articles that intervew rose christo like she's the real author should either be taken down or corrected. that, like, seems like the obvious thing to do.

Context
Cagney has stated and shown that Nicole chatted with Hanna who is running Mobox87's Tumblr to have her get back online so she can chat with them but due to the events of Mobox87's attempt of suicide and lack of human motivation, she was feeling weak to even get up and Hanna wanted no part in the drama while moderating the account which is why Nicole took the initiative to chat with Cagney in the dm's.
Like Cagney said, nothing really came out of it when chatting with Nicole. Both couldn't respect each others opinion and were quick to insult one another over.
Nicole's first response to Cagney after both did not know where to start off the conversation but said they were "cowardly" for not wanting to do a voice call. The response Cagney said back was that the reason why he doesn't want to call is for "identity reasons" while laughing off about it.
Make note that this has been explained before why Cagney doesn't want to reveal their voice on the rant video they made against Mobox87.
Despite the idea of Nicole wanting to voice chat with Cagney and being refused. Nicole criticizes Cagney over his choice and makes fun of the comment made by Cagney about "mental power".
During the ongoing conversation, Nicole continues on saying how cowardly Cagney is while he talks about how the events that were discussed on Mobox87's interview with Nicole were things that happened based on the photographic evidence (evidence can be seen on the Moboxcritique's archive.) which mobox labeled as lies. Regardless of Cagney saying his part in his conversation, Nicole went off saying if Cagney ever consider asking Mobox87 on why certain actions were made and why is that never disputed to rub it in as if Mobox87 was never consulted with.
Ahem! Forgetting Crying Blossom's second callout video.
Nicole still goes off at Cagney by saying their blog is a message to spread hate on Mobox87 to harass her and to have him open his eyes to see the changes Mobox87 has done. Cagney responded by making comparison with a murder and a pedophile with a conclusion that despite changes it'll forever remain a part of them and relapses will kick in.
Mobox87 only changed her outcome by acknowledging a warning to her content but never was truly sorry for what actions she's did especially to Crying Blossom who is the first that stood up to her bullshit and has continued on to slander Kevonica. Like for fuck sakes Mobox87 cries wolf when put on the spot and took it to the extreme this time.
Going on still, Cagney says that Mobox87 hasn't shown any improvements of being a good person to show that she's changed online. Nicole disregard what was said and mentioned "a long-term call" talking to Mobox87 in private after the interview. She said that "emotional dependency" was the cause of her "bad deeds". Cagney made a statement saying that these were excuses and that it didn't have anything to do with her drawings because it didn't add up since Mobox87 exposed her work to minors that were supposedly driven by "bad deeds". Cagney labels Mobox87 as a lier forward on.
Then yada yada... Both Cagney and Nicole go back and forth about being wiser til Nicole said that Mobox87's ex friends manipulated her to do bad things through some mental abuse.
The two of them argued in the chat over how it was manipulation or excuses to justify her actions. Cagney insisted Nicole to look into the archives of the Moboxcritique blog but Nicole said she's read it all already and stated that there's stuff missing or out of context to label Cagney as a liar. The argument couldn't be resolved by the two of them and it concluded on a bad note.
I would like to mention that the Moboxcritique blog does have stuff missing but not in terms of taking things out of context to lie about Mobox87 cause the evidence is there. What the blog and video Moboxcritique made along with other critic videos lack is stuff that I know personally or stuff that is overlooked or what others don't know about.
In all honesty, Nicole is a one sided argument and a dick rider of this drama. Like we hear Mobox87 out and had people talk with her before. Just to only be backstabbed or laughed at behind our back to show that Mobox87 is only bluffing to get herself free from a situation she created and can't confront.

1.Reading Time is Reading Time
-a variety streamer, I will be holding streams of a variable topics. Please do not ask for a tarot reading if the thematic is not tarot+metaphysical-centric~
2a.Queue Up;)
-it can be hard to keep up with the influx of querants at times
-the queue helps ensure that I get through all, if not-most of the querants
-the queue ensures your placement for my reading; without it, your reading may be side-lined
2b.Queue Up(additional info)
-Tips+Subs will influence and manipulate the placement of the queue line as a "Thank You"
-Subs will increase the placement by 1^ while tips will increase placement depending on the amount.
-In the case of tips, the minimum to achieve 1^ level is $5 and then +1^ for every $3 after. [Ie: a $12 tip will boost queue placement by 3^]
When your placement is affected by this, it becomes and "enhanced placement" *no visual indicator results from an enhanced placement*
-Enhanced queue placement is still subjected to [5. Attendance~☆] rules!!
3.Respect my Boundaries.
-every divination-reader uses different techniques and methods for providing their service.
Do not tell me I'm "reading wrong" because it's not what you do/ see what other readers do. If you don't like it, you can leave~
-I do not like to work with questions that deal with legal issues, very serious* mental help, and working with deities or the dead.
-if you should ask a professional of a given field; you should not be asking me.
4.Multiple Readings+Double/Triple+ Dipping
-widely depend on how active the chat is+how filled the queue is
-during slower days, up to 2(and 3 in some cases) questions may be helped per queue placement; more questions will require a re-entry to the queue
-on more active/busy days; choosing the most desired question will be asked of the querant
5.Attendance~☆
-please be aware of your placement within the queue
-failure to respond when your name is called after a few minutes may result in a "skip-over" to the next querent
-multiple "skip-over"s will result in a kick from the queue (with the amount depending on how busy the stream is), requiring re-entry for a reading

Pense-bête is SO MUCH WORK. Omfg, even thinking about it gives me war flashbacks. When I started writing it, I was going through a major health crisis, which is ongoing but managed at least. At the time it was terrifying, though, so I was writing for my LIFE. Like "I need to finish this in case I die" kind of writing which sounds very dramatic but when doctors start conversations with "I think you should sit down," it's earned drama.
I burned out. That's it. The story is there, I know what happens, it lives in my head. But I burned out because the rewards could not sustain the amount of effort I was putting into it.
I've said it in the comments and I'll say it here: never say never. I don't want to put an abandoned work tag on it because I may pick it up again. The PB readers mean a lot to me, I won't forget them.
On a random side note, either Andante or Rondo will be available in Italian this year, so if anyone is interested, message me. I'll add you to the list.

Jerks everywhere?
Nursing school has an ongoing, informal whatsapp chat. There is one guy who came off as obnoxious from day one. In Zoom class, he talks more than anyone else by a factor of about ten. Most of it is pretty irrelevant but I guess that's his right. For example, when talking about pregnancy/giving birth he somehow tried to make it about a man's contribution via their sperm. I mean it's pretty impressive when in a class of 98% women AND when talking about pregnancy a man still finds a way to make it about him.
In the chat I said I was going to go to the professor's office hours to try to find out more about the policy. About ten hours later I came back to hundreds of comments yelling at this guy. He apparently didn't think I had the right to ask any questions. His response: "How about you DON'T do that. What's wrong with people in this class? Get your head out of your ASS." Keep in mind I've never actually met this person in real life or talked to him individually. Luckily, about 20 people told him how inappropriate his response was. One guy told him how he takes up way too much time in class and that nobody has to ask his permission to do anything. By the time I read the post it was already over so I didn't bother bringing it up again. A few days later he did the same thing - cuss words and all to my friend who had kindly/proactively set up an excel sheet to help us do clinical location exchanges. She responded maturely but firmly that he should back off. Others backed her up. He told us we need to "toughen up or we weren't going to make it" and called our women Professor by her first name, for unknown reasons. The women admin removed him from the group. He then sent my friend and the women admin rude private messages. Earlier in the week they had removed a women classmate for responding with some aggressive language and gave everyone a warning they would do the same moving forward.
Now the male admin of the group is in "negotiations to bring him back into the group" because "he has shown he is sorry." One women agreed because "we can't always control how we respond when we are stressed." Another pointed out how nice he is to her individually and she wouldn't want him to miss out academically. So stupid. Luckily, many women pointed out how it was much more pleasant without the drama. I'm now just hoping and praying he is not in my clinical group because I have no desire to be in a work environment with him or anyone like him. I can't imagine how he talks to his wife.

Corpse was panicking, his heart beating in his chest as his legs moved him one part of his secret room to the other.
The reason for his panick? You.
He wanted to speak with you more, he enjoyed the slightly pessimistic but still loveable personality you have, the voice changer being something he was curious about.
Why did you wear it? Do you really hate your voice? Or did something happened and now you are ashamed of it or were you more concerned about keeping the anonymity of your presence? The possibilities were endless and so the kind of message he wants to send you.
Should he say just hi? Should he introduce himself in a longer paragraph? Should he just...send you a meme? His mind inclined towards that more: I mean if she doesn't like memes, she isn't the one.

You hoped this was the real Corpse not some fan account who tried to masquerade as him, last thing you need was some stranger to invade your private accounts.
You didn't made an account just for ghost since you didn't want to start a channel anyway. You have a lot on your plate between organising the festival and your numerous assignments, you didn't have the mental capacity and energy to entertain a mass of people even thought the idea interested you.
But leaving Corpse unanswered was a crime so you started to dig up through memes that will be matching his response.
Corpse in the meantime was freaking out, cursing at himself for thinking you wanted to chat with him. You already were a reserved person how dare he disturb your peace, how dare he comes in your DMs to only message you a lame ass-

His heart melted for a bit but wait...he never said anything about avocados in that stream, he barely talked actually preferring to hear you tease and blame others. Does that...DOES THAT MEAN YOU WATCH HIS VIDEOS?
