still cant get over travailshipping. i remember when you first tested the waters with it (which i believe was some time before the tpiag chapters started coming out?) and at first i thought it was pretty funny. ark slowly but surely falling headfirst for twig, who if she had a tagline it would be "if i could turn my feelings into weapons, mine would be a goddamn nuclear bomb", and her at first just being oblivious to it and thinking that the letters that expressed love and care that were written in cursive in her mailbox were just funny and she wanted to show them to ark with the guy just looking at her with the most "well that backfired in the weirdest way possible". but when tpiag finally ended i finally connected the dots as to why these two are just. augh. i wont go into detail here in your askbox but i wanna know is: HOW DID YOU DO IT. HOW DO YOU KEEP MAKING SUCH GOOD IDEAS FOR THE FUNNY DIGITAL ANIMALS. TELL ME.

(thinking to myself) "Ugh I should stop posting so much travailshipping stuff... It's probably so annoying to everyone who sees it. I feel bad for my poor followers. I'll check my inbox real quick and then commit to shaking up my content by—" *gets obliterated by your niceness*

Oh man. I remember posting that poll where I hesitantly described a possible Darkrai/Twig pairing in the tags while proposing Twig/Kip as an alternative route, despite it not being the direction I wanted to take the characters, because I was so scared of what people’s reactions might be. If I remember right, I posted it a little bit before I had just barely reached 5k words in the first draft of TPiaG.

I've been trying to write up detailed responses to how I come up with good ideas for travailshipping in particular, but there's one rule I use that defines everything after it and speaks for all of them: I have fun with the characters.

That's it. That's the rule. If I don't want to write a subject, I don't. I stick with what I find enjoyable and resonant. Does a joke make me laugh? Does a scene make me cry? Does a villain make me punch a hole in my wall? Does a cute gesture make me squeal? If so, then into the project it goes. I think people can feel when someone is having fun with their work, and that fun radiates out into their own experience consuming that work. It's like laughter— joy is something we're sharing with others as long as we feel it. Fun is contagious.

Also: when you don't force yourself to make things you hate, you attract people who like the same things as you. These people will find your work even more fun— because not only did you have fun making it, they're having double fun consuming it.

An important tangent I'll go off on is that I think that every creative project idea is a good idea. There's so many beloved bizarro ideas in the world, even the ones who try to be cool about how weird their premises are. There's this weird show where the main character works as a service industry worker in an underwater setting that's ruled by a Roman deity— he lives in a piece of fruit, and his pet gastropod makes cat noises. This show sounds like word salad garbage on paper and could be tossed out for its nonsensical nature, and yet SpongeBob SquarePants has made Nickelodeon over $13 billion dollars and is a treasured part of many childhoods. There's also a character who spends his time locked in intellectual and physical combat with a wannabe clown and wears a costume with bat ears while doing it. Batman's been an icon for over 80 years.

All of this is to say:

Ideas are always good ideas by virtue of existing. They don't derive their goodness from external sources. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Make more of what you love. Don't make things you hate making.

If you have fun while making the thing, people will have fun while they consume the thing's content.

I hope this makes sense. I didn't touch on idea generation as much as embracing existing ideas. Fingers crossed that was the right response. I'd just woken up from a nap as I was writing it, so hopefully it's not too meandering and managed to answer the question and—

OKAY IT HAPPENED

i saw a spoiler that i SHOULD NOT have seen. but its a funny story so im going to scream about it under the read more and once im done im going to go pirate those 7 episodes i have left even if i have to watch them in french im losing my absolute mind.

SO i keep acting without thought and snooping some miraculous posts that appear under the recommended thing that sometimes shows below my own posts. and a while ago i saw a post that said something about gabriel not being technically adrien's father and i thought that was stupid and i chose not to believe that as a spoiler. also because i had just read a fanfic posterd years ago that decided emilie had been a villain who cheated on gabriel and that's how she had adrien and i just do not like the idea of emilie having been secretely a bad person. and i just didn't like the idea of adrien having some other father. but it wouldn't leave my mind. the only thought i had was that maybe felix and adrien shared the same father and it was the guy who died? but i didn't care much for that.

THEN i watched the episodes i posted live reactions to these past days, which include these two episodes where we finally learn felix's intentions with the peacock miraculous. and okay. i got it when he said the thing to kagami about having a responsibility towards the "beings you create" i got that it was a thing about "our parents shouldn't control us". i just found it cute and interesting and it hasn't left myh mind because i really didn't expect to see this soft side of felix ever.

I ALSO haven't been able to stop thinking about WHAT the hell did Emilie want with the peacock miraculous. because again, i don't want her to be evil. i want her to have mysterious secrets, yes, but i want to know what non evil purpose she could have with the miraculous.

so THIS VERY MORNING. A FEW hours ago my mind randomly put these three dots together while i was having breakfast and watching QuintonReviews talk about crazy theories for nickelodeon sitcoms and said "WHAT IF.... Emilie couldn't have children for some reason and adrien is a sentimonster?"

and i thought.. haha... that's INSANE. im going to remember i had this thought because its SO silly and i want to laugh about it when i have finished the show and have all my answers... how funny LOL.

and just. forgot about it. until A COUPLE MINUTES AGO I ONCE AGAIN GO SNOOPING. and i skim over a post that's like "marinette in season 1: juggles babysitting, being ladybug, idk what else, felix in season 4" and mi think its alright to read this because it said SEASON 4. but then it said that he finds that adrien and him are actually not kasjdh i dont know how they phrased it because i ran away as fast as i could but nowmy WORLD is crashing donw.

Avatar The Last AirBender (the Netflix | Nickelodeon series)

Episode 1: 3/10

Episode 2: 4/10 (Kyoshi brought it up)

I don't really want to even watch further. Let's start off with the good.

I love the music and sounds. Brilliant.

Some actors are very good and their act is believable to the point it makes me forget I'm watching a TV show.

Honestly most of the time there's CG I don't even notice it.

the makeup, the sets, the costumes, wow. wowowoww. wowweeee. I love it.

The bad:

Very very very few actors know what they're doing.

It's a known problem that child actors are just terrible - not because children can't be great actors (c.f., Heidi, literally everyone in Matilda (ily Danny Davito)), but sometimes the show has a director that cannot for the life of them work with children (e.g., Stranger Things, and this ATLA series). Aang, for example, delivers a performance which is painful to watch. I'm not hating on the child, again, the direction is just completely missing. There's a scene where they have Katara just light-jog to Aang, then pivot slightly to Sokka. For what. It's so stiff and awkward and her expression is completely void of life (this happens a lot, her eyes are frozen, and only the rest of her face conveys expression). There are times when the laughter is obviously forced. There are times when dialogue delivered by the children are far too 'complex' for what a child would say. It's just so, it's not good. It feels like a show for kids. But I'm reminded that in the opening scenes a person was burned alive, so unless the kids these days are fine with that (deity knows I wasn't as a kid), I don’t know.

Most of the time it just doesn't seem believable. It feels like some friends and family got together and just shot some scenes on their iPhone to try and replicate the animated series. There are actions taken by characters which make no god damn sense. There are scenes where their facial expressions aren't human, because they're trying to mimic the animated characters (especially Sokka). I also get the vibe that they didn't rehearse lines, like at all. Aang messed up pronunciation TWICE in the first episode* (I'm pretty sure it was both in the first episode, he just mumbled over his words and they didn't think to re-shoot it or fuckin, I don’t know, do a little dub? like?).

There's no real explanation for bending??? Which ig wouldn't be necessary if you've watched the animated series. But like why can't the fire people just spew out a constant stream of fire, why must it be fireballs. Why does the earth bender boy need soooooo long to charge up his move? Why was Aang flying around the first time we saw him, but then he was free-falling reaching desperately for his stick later on (where did the stick even come from???)?

They resort to dark / dimly-lit scenes a little too frequently to make the CG easier / less noticeable. but it has the unintended effect of 'I can't see shit, babes'.

I think I'll watch more. I don’t know man it just feels like Netflix is hiring bottom of the fucking skill-barrel. Like I'm glad there's so many new people in the acting space, instead of recycling Marilyn Streep and, that guy, like they used to for the last few decades. But it comes at the cost of 'what the fuck are these people doing, do they want to be here?'. It's very Disney-girl-turns-pop-princess-because-daddy-knows-people. does that make sense.

I don’t know. Kyoshi just. compared to the others around her? Night and day. Night and fucking day, babes. Not even funny; her composure, her delivery, the tiny details, she just nails it for the most part. And then she's standing next to Aang who's just like omg when does this take end so I can go eat my fairy floss teehee.

Hmm its hard to remember headcanons on the spot for some reason. Idk why I know them when I'm talking about something related to them but just suddenly asked I can't seem to remember.

Luckily I did answer a few asks a while ago about headcanons for specific characters! Hmm you're gonna have to dig for that :D

Also one I do remember, spongebob's gets his squareness from his father side.

Spongebob attended kamp koral on May 1st 1999 (actually canon) so that means the series takes place years later when he's older. The beginning of the series isn't the beginning of when the og show takes place. I always had this theory because it didn't make sense that SB got his job at the krusty krab when he was 13. Now I have a little smidget of proof to show the series takes place a few years after the show.

That pirate queen that Mr. Krabs kinda liked in his story in the episode pull up a barrel. I think that was pearls mom?? I know it shows sandy as the pirate queen but that's what Spongebob was imagining to Mr. Krabs story.

I always wondered how the gal pals thing worked since most of these characters have large age gaps and I can't inagine them interacting. Sandy and Karen makes sense but the rest not quite. I'm just gonna guess and suggest that Karen and Mrs. Puff bond over their partners feuds.

Mrs. Puff and Pearl have almost like a mother daughter bonding time? I think she'd try to get closer to Pearl.

Pearl and Sandy, I know in the pitch bible mentions pearl to be gifted in math. But also Pearl cares a lot about her reputation as a teenager. Perhaps she'd try to hide that and Sandy helps her get over that fear and embrace her skills?

Karen and Pearl. I think with Mr. Krab's and Plankton's thing going on, she grown acquainted to pearl like a family friend you'd refer to as aunt maybe?

Idk I'm just guessing with all this. I remember teasing with my friend a while ago that the gal pals episodes only exist probably because of nickelodeon's request. Kinda like the bechdel test. Spongebob Squarepants has a lot of female characters but they almost never interact. Only in the modern seasons they've began to. Which I don't mind. Sandy and Karen are the the best and I would trade my life for them. I feel like maybe Nick requested they interact somehow because this show is their biggest show. And you can tell the writers were playing around with "girl group, girl power!" Type thing. Especially since their first gal pal episode was them getting back at the guys they're frustrated with and complaining with.

This train of thought started because I realized a good handful of shows I grew up watching fail the bechdel test. It doesn't mean they're bad since I enjoy those shoes a lot. But looking back at it. The most they've ever done was throw in a tomboyish female character and be like girl boss, perfect role model 100%. Done all we could, nothing else to add.

Eh I wanted to make a separate post about this but also I don't want to cause beef. I think it's a bit of an interesting thing and I was curious about. I don't care for it much.

Spongebob is a result of nuclear radiation. The popular edgy internet theory. But it actually works. Especially due to an actual patchy short where he says the island above the bikini bottom is called the bikini atoll. I think that's more than enough proof.

Pearl's mom is dead. Likely died in childbirth. The movie kamp koral and tv show kamp koral are a year apart. Mr. Krabs was working as a cook in the movie's kamp koral. While the tv show hes now here as the head councilor and with bby Pearl. Pearl was just born. I think he initially worked at kamp koral for extra money but with Pearl's mom sudden passing, he had to take on more work and at a job that would allow him to watch his daughter at the same time.

Squilliam and Squidward's rivalry (also possible dating) took place in high school.

Bubblebass and Spongebob's rivalry also likely happened in high school, I like to imagine they initially became friends over comic books but because of bubblebass's selfishness, their friendship fell apart. They seemed like rivals long before the episode pickles anyways. He must have done something really bad for spongebob to be sour with him for so long.

Mmmm I think Pat likes sponge? A little more than special bbfs. Mans was ready to square up when cuddle e hugs had all spongebob's love. He literally says it out loud.

King Neptune shouldn't be ruler of the sea. I don't know much about mythology and all that but isn't Neptune the god of fresh water? And he's ruling the salty seas? Poseidon should have been ruler but from sponge on the run, we know he'd be terrible at that. Anyways instead of just leaving this as some thing the writers didn't think much about. I got a better idea! Poseidon was the rightful ruler of the deep blue. But seeing how Poseidon is, it was a better idea to pass the crown and responsibilities to Neptune instead. Neptune isn't the best ruler. He's very passive but relatively harmless. Now to prevent two gods from killing each other and wiping out the entire ocean in the process, Poseidon was given Atlantic city. Its a small bit of land but it's enough to satisfy him. He'd occupied with that and the glory of being a god and his vanity. He wouldn't cause much else trouble.

That's as much as I could remember on the spot. Sorry about the late reply since it took a while to gather some thoughts. My head is empty as space. Yeah there's things in there but they're usually far away unless they happen to be making their rotation closer. I usually don't remember stuff on the spot xD

Now I feel like I need to just review The Babysitter.

"Thoughts On The Babysitter From a Girl Who Doesn't Like Horror"

First off, it's a horror comedy, which means it just makes fun of other horror movies. This is the reason why my friends chose this one for us to watch because it's less bad for me. And yeah, that did make it a lot better.

I love the main kid. He's adorable. I found out at the end he's supposed to be 12. I thought he was supposed to be 14 and a freshman in high school for the whole movie but no I was wrong.

This movie is like Home Alone (1990) meets Sky High (2005) and some demonic worship something or other. Idek.

The home alone aspect I freaking loved.

Also the funny parts were truly funny and I definitely cracked up a few times.

Anytime someone got stabbed through the head I had to not watch though.

This movie has Robbie Amell who I love. And also has Bella Thorne, who anytime is in anything I'm like "what? That's Bella Thorne!" Bc I never expect to see her for some reason. And it also has that girl from Pitch Perfect who talks really really quietly. She's great.

I love the main kid's character growth. It was very obvious that was going to happen from the beginning of the movie, but still, it was great.

This movie was like a Nickelodeon movie turned adult with adult humor and with a lot of cheesy gore.

Everytime anything didn't make sense either in a physics kind of way or a humanly possible kind of way or something was just not smart or logical, one of my friends or me would have to comment on it, and that was also very fun/funny to me.

I couldn't get passed stupid decisions made and some of the "that's physically not possible" things, but I was okay with the whole "the bad guys definitely are partly superhuman and able to survive more than what normal people can" part. One of my friends though couldn't get passed the superhuman part but was okay with the stupid decision making part 😂

My favorite part was probably Robbie Amell going after the main kid but like pausing to give the kid life advice and to cheer him on while he stood up to his bully. And then the kid takes his advice and uses it on him, and Robbie isn't even mad.

Also "why are there guns!?" It was a great line.

And I did actually really like the relationship between the kid and his babysitter (yunno, despite the whole babysitter being evil thing).

And then after the climax you get this great dramatic shot of the main kid (his name is Cole. Idky I keep just calling him the main kid) standing on top of an overturned car and it's amazing.

And (spoiler) I did like how none of the bad guys would die until it was at the hands of Cole or at least right in front of him.

Man, killing people really does give some great character growth doesn't it? Just solves all of your problems right up. With the minor side effect of major irreparable trauma. But hey, he's not scared to drive now.

Oh!! Hey! That's one of the things that made me think he was a high school freshman! But no! He's 12! Why was his dad trying to teach him how to drive??? I'm so confused now. How did I learn he's 12? Maybe he is 14? Idk.

So.... Overall I did like it? But I could've done without some of the very gross sexual jokes which thankfully were pretty much just at the beginning. And you know. Gore. But that's part of the humor of making fun of horror movies yeah? Eh. Probably won't rewatch this ever but I did like large chunks of it.
