OC Aesthetics for the Entities (Magnus Archives)

I'm not sure how much new Spooky Month content I'll be doing this year, I'm pretty tapped out at the moment, but I have had this for a while (created by @sagamemes) and it's pretty spooky, so I figured I'd do it for the start of the spooky season \o/

THE FLESH. body horror. factories. a hunger for something more filling. never quite happy with how you look. the terror of an animal waiting for slaughter. a very good meal. the liquid of a perfect steak. fighting your worst survival instincts. a twisted bone. long nights working out. more than one heart. appearance that shapes like clay. a bag of bones. bone broth in a pot. knowing to fear pigs. the butcher’s shop. plastic surgery. something alien inside your body. a hunger in the gaze laid upon you. unwitting cannibalism. forgetting what you used to look like. being admired for your appearance & appearance only. teeth marks on skin. scars from wounds that should’ve killed you. cooking in scarcity. fenced in with one way to go.

THE END. the last page of a book. nightmares that don’t feel like nightmares. a skeletal hand. the grip of the grim reaper around your throat. existential pain. ivory dice. flatlining in a hospital. gambling with death. as old as the universe. soul & spirit tied to an object. a dream where you die. closing your eyes for the last time. the pleas of a dying one. knowing the fate of someone you know & being unable to prevent it. a thousand cords tugging you towards your end. skin that’s freezing to the touch. an act of desperation. someone’s life for yours. an eternity spent alive. the cost of your selfishness. watching your own burial. causing your own burial. the smell of death. numbness to fear. words from someone gone. meaninglessness of the actions or lives of single people in the universe. multiple near-death experiences you refuse to die from.

THE EYE. googling something you shouldn’t have. eureka moments. the unforgiving lens of a camera. witness reports. hidden libraries. eyes of different colors. feeling of being watched. a death recorded in tape. a tragedy you can’t look away from. endangering yourself for knowledge. truth. analog records. a symbol of an eye. a watch tower. compulsion to document. turning on recording devices without thinking about it. saving the evidence before the person. extracting information. truth or dare, without the dare. a thirst for knowledge. books that speak to you. coordinated shelves. cataloguing systems. voyeurism. police report you can’t put down. reasoning your way out. smell of old papers. books that read you back.

viii. THE HUNT. sharp canines. sore calves after a run. the scent of blood. an adventure for the journey’s sake. the adrenaline right before the kill. a whistle’s echo. the woods. the doe eyes of a prey animal. your own breath in the air. sharpened claws. being tracked. fear of someone knowing your every movement. hunting down monsters. hide & seek. running away only to end up where you started. staying alive purely because the enemy enjoys seeing you run. a set of footsteps behind you. blood dripping from bare hands. barks & growls. focused eyes. a victim going limp under your hands. a mouth full of fresh blood. catching the scent of something monstrous. perfecting your craft. peering into the dark & running after it.

ix. THE LONELY. an apartment too small for a double bed. completely vacant streets. waking up to see everyone gone. fog. point nemo. a house too big to hear your family members in. alone in a faceless crowd. a mask with nothing behind it. separated cubicles. a deafening silence where joy should be. a blinding spotlight. the least missed in your friend group. streets without lights in the windows. isolation. not truly knowing your friends. your friends not truly knowing you. need for silence. fear of crowds. staring into space knowing nothing is looking back at you. a ship alone at sea. depression. knowing your friends are better off without you. talking to someone only to realise they’re gone. a family too large to notice you there. safety in being alone.

#i tried to do a mix of morgan's canon life and pre-canon life - and then a few of her more regular aus for the 'situational' occurences #she honestly got the most 'definitely''s for Slaughter but that's mostly because of what others do in the reaping tbh #and she got one more 'never' in Slaughter than she did in The Hunt #so I would say overall she got the Hunt #i didn't actually know that much about the magnus archives and all the entities before this so i didn't know all the options #but i'd say the Hunt suits her frankly #between her 'lust' for life and adrenaline junkie nature - she is a bit of a hunter at heart #couple that with a love of nature and predators and a bit of dabbling in actual hunting herself #and the general nature of what happens during the Reaping #the Hunt probably is the one that typifies her life the most #with some dabblings in the Slaughter (due to her experiences in the reaping) and the Vast #with honourable mentions I think to the Extinction (also due to the reaping) the Eye and the Web #aesthetic games #bold your aesthetic #tag your aesthetic #spooky month 2023 #horror #blood tw #gore imagery #the magnus archives #the entities #tag games

We are done with book 1, folks!!!

previously, in gideon the ninth

this happened

also, I was proven right about dulcinea (kind of)

just pointing that out again

final update of this book, it's gonna be a bit of a long one, folks (gideon, from inside my mind, where she is now living rent-free: "that's what she said!"):

we left off in the fight against not!dulcinea

yandere simulator twin w/inner chad was being used as a battery pad

regina george twin is at an unknown location

la gideon and my qp wife are fighting

harrowcita passed out

so basically not!dulcinea unlocks the big magnus archives entity monster harrowbean had previously locked

harrow wakes up to make a bone dome

for scale, this is the dome and mickey is gideon, but she's inside the thing

magnus archives junji ito monster keeps beating the dome from outside to crack it open like an egg

harrowbean starts to disintegrate from the inside because it's hard to make a bone spaceship earth and keep it up

camilla is accepting fate at this point, my poor beloved qp wife

but la gideon is not gonna give up

she's never gonna give you up

never gonna let you down

never gonna...

so harrow starts making a goodbye speech

reminding gideon to take care of the ninth and the barbie in the freezer

but gideon is determined to come up with a plan

*very niche reference but "bien warrior" by miss bolivia plays in the background*

we all know this is a terrible idea because gideon's plans are always "punch really hard" and, in this case, that's a wild thing to do

but she does that

a metal version of that

she decides to, if I understand correctly (because description is scarce for various acceptable reasons) impale herself on the iron spikes inside the dome, to force Harrow to slurp her soul

so this is the situation

absolutely heartbreaking stuff

she's sort of ghost-placing herself behind Harrow to guide her using the sword

and being all silly and gideon-esque and harrow is heartbroken and sad and it's all very very heartbreaking and I'm suffering

I'm ANGRY, OK????

I didn't even like gideon at the start

I complained about her for like a good first chunk of this book

I got mad at her for being dense and not following through with things

I got angry at her way of approaching situations and trusting people I didn't trust

I didn't totally vibe with her vibe most times

and then she made me like her and grow attached and NOW I HAVE TO SUFFER???

what's the point????? you make me like you and then you SACRIFICE YOURSELF?????

the man has very specific eyes which I imagined in a way that I'm not sure is what it's supposed to be, but I'm gonna keep my version for now

so he tells harrow that he's gonna protect the ninth if she becomes lyctor because the universe is going to shit and he can't handle everything on his own anymore

WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING AT ANY GIVEN POINT

anyway, harrow is, at this point, tired and sad and grieving for everything so she says ok

according to this guy, the only other survivor is yandere simulator twin w/inner chad who is missing an arm

very convenient for him, who needs lyctors

an didn't, at any point, explain anything

but they "haven't been able" to find the bodies of: la gideon, my wife and regina george twin

everyone else was, at least, partially recovered, as far as I remember he said

they're probably gathering pieces of palmolive from every carpet and piece of wallpaper

I am reluctantly gonna miss that guy

so there is hope that I'm not a qp widow yet and that la gideon might come back in some capacity, which I MEAN, COME ON

also, I don't know if people would be making such a fuss about her arms if her body wasn't of consequence anymore

because I don't know much about these books but I did know that coming in, that and skull make up were my two clues

and we still don't know where she came from and if she's a demigod

and why her hair and eyes are that color

I don't know, I'm unsure about this

I hold hope

I am sure regina george twin will be back because people have been cryptic about her in replies to my updates

and I hope camilla comes back because right now I'm like a victorian wife, standing at a lighthouse, waiting for her sailor to come back from the depths of the sea, throwing messages in bottles

I am enraged with the tagline they have in the cover of this book, now that I've finished it

the quote that's in the cover about lesbian necromancers in a victorian mansion in space and whatnot

it sells the book incredibly short and also tells you things you shouldn't be told because a) they aren't as clear cut as they make them out to be and b) you should be told none of that entering this book

best experience is to know absolutely nothing

like gideon

and since I have an ebook, I see that quote more prominently than any blurb

it reads like the short summary of a fic and it doesn't do it justice one bit

now that I've finished the book, I think this post was about it and I didn't know at the time, because that's fair

this book is very difficult to categorize because it seems to be using a lot of different references and mixing them together in a very personal and unique way to the author

but, because of that, it's a very unique take on different things

I think it stands very aligned with both core classics and more contemporary foundations, at the same time

and the narrative point of view is a bit at-odds with the complexity of the lore, which makes it a very brave first part of a bigger thing for an author to throw out there

and it works, as it is

it actually works well like that

however, as difficult as it can be to explain it, that tagline really flattens it to something that I don't think favors how much more of that it is???

I don't know, that's just my personal & professional opinion, but anyway

I need to go find the next one

I know that sounds terrible, but I hope Joel never remembers what happened that night. Afterall it wasn't just someone that chased him through the woods.

It... I am not really sure how to start this. Honestly I don't even believe you guys can do anything about this but I guess I start by telling you about the whole day.

My friends and I were meeting at Scott's house like three weeks ago. It's a small cottage in the middle of the woods. At least one hour away from the next city or village and the forest always appears so much bigger than it actually is. But it's nice!

I was there in the morning already. I didn't have anything else to do that day and wanted to help Scott prepare. There were going to be a lot of people, so there was a lot of food, drinks and other stuff to do.

That weird feeling already started when I entered the front garten. I got goosebumps because, and this might just sound crazy I know, there was something, no, someone watching me. I couldn't get it out of my head. It was like it was waiting for a grand show.

I must have been frozen standing there for a while as Scott was calling for me when I focused again. Apparently I was unfocused the whole day. That feeling never went away.

Nothing special occurred for the next few hours. Just everybody arriving. Everything was normal, well until Lizzie and Joel came.

Joel and Lizzie had gotten married some years ago and have been dating a long while before, so coming together shouldn't be so... frustrating. I couldn't tell why I was feeling that way at the time, so I tried to ignore it.

The party went fine. They all had fun, drank and played some games. We were all familiar with each other since we all met in college or through other friends.

At the end everyone was drunk and because Scott lived so far into the woods no one really wanted or was sober enough to drive home, so everyone decided for a sleepover. Scott, Timmy, Tango and Impulse slept in Scotts bedroom. Grian, Pearl, Scar and BigB slept in a guestroom while Etho, Cleo, Bdubs, Skizz and Gem had chosen to rest outside in a big Tent that Scar brought. Joel and Lizzie took the sofa and I was on the floor in a sleeping bag that I took with me.

It was well into the night when I woke up. Maybe 2 or 3 am. Somehow I knew that it was Joel who woke me up and that he was outside. I didn't even bother to change out of my pajamas before my feeling was confirmed. There was a yellow post-it note on the door that led to the garden. 'Couldn't sleep. Gonna go for a short walk -Joel' or something along those lines was written on the note.

I barely remember leaving. Next thing I know I am deep in the woods. This might sound weird... I could smell where Joel was... Hear his footsteps, his breathing, his heartbeat. It was loud and obvious. I just watched him for a while. He kept turning his head around to see if there was something and he was right.

I was watching him.

A deep growling made him freeze. He spotted me. His pupils were wide, his breathing irregular. He was scared. Then he ran...

It was like a gunshot at a race. The start of a competition. Joel ran as fast as he could but it wasn't enough. I leaped and pinned him to the rough ground. And there I noticed. I didn't have hands anymore. Instead there were hairy claws. They cut and bruised Joel's arm as he whimpered. The growling began again as I let go of him and let him run. There was chanting, a crowd of voices in my head praising and cheering for me. I could just disappoint them. And so the hunt continued.

We ran deeper and deeper until there was almost no Moonshine to be seen. Sometimes I let Joel catch his breath or let him think he was safe before starting all over again. Running, hiding, catching, releasing until till we reached that cliff. I saw the panic in his eyes as I cut of any escape routes. I sprinted to push my whole body against him and throw him of the edge. I thought this was the end. I successfully hunted my prey.

Then I heard the water splash. There waa water at the bottom of the cliff and Joel had fallen right into it.

He survived.

I could've continued but I knew that if I did Joel would die. The voices as well as my mind already felt satisfied so there was no reason for me to finish. And so I left.

I went back to the cottage. I was calm, like I knew I wouldn't be caught for coming inside with blood on my clothes. A quick look at the clock told me that we were only thirty minutes outside. But it was more like ten hours. Yet I didn't question it.

Changing my clothes, burning the bloody ones far away and getting the smell of me was surprisingly easy. I'm not sure how I didn't wake anyone up. It didn't take long until I was in my sleeping bag again, like nothing had ever happened.

The next day Joel ran into the house in a panic. He woke up everyone. He told us about what had occurred and I felt a strange wave of pride at his fear. But I couldn't just confess to being the cause of Joel Trauma, however I thought I could tell jokes and try to lighten the moon, which worked somewhat. Lizzie, Grian and Etho drove him to the hospital to take care of the wounds. They told us to stay at the house together just in case. We all left at about lunchtime.

Joel has been paranoid ever since which is, as bad as this sounds, kinda good for me. His fear keeps my urge to hunt at bay. Of course it can't fully get rid of it but some chases here and there fulfill that enough.

Honestly I don't feel bad for this, which I should, I know, but it keeps the voices quiet.

I wouldn't worry about that, afterall the Hound of Hell is coming. There will be no bark, only Bite.

Statement end."

The tape recorder stared at Jon after he finished the statement. The silence is broken by gentle knocking on the office door.

"Come in."

The door is softly opened and reveals Martin with a cup in his hands.

"I hope I'm not disrupting you in the middle of a statement."

"I just finished the statement. You did not interrupt."

While Martin puts down the tea on Jons desk, Jon flashes him a quick thank you before staring at the tape recorder again.

Jon doesn't answer. Of course Martin had to realize that. For some reason there were many tapes that were hidden in a loose floorboard on the way to Elias's office. Gertrude couldn't have left them as the recent one was only a week old and the others were taken a hundred years ago. Elias on the other hand seemed smug when Jon had found them.

Who put them there didn't matter, at least not yet. What matters is why they were hidden.

Jon exhaled loudly. He shouldn't focus on his questions.

He had statements to record.

so,, I just finished watching TMA, like, as I'm writing this.

"Good Luck." Holy shit.what a way to end a series huh? Well, 'Oh... Hello' turns me away from a series end but.

I wasn't ready. For any of it. For Helen's death, kids was hoping she'd stick around, well. Till she tried to trap Jon-

And god- walking through the fears- the statements- mixed with my very vivid imagination, almost, almost felt like I was there- terrifying. But. In a way, nice. Definetly helped with my nyctophobia.

And- I still need to rewatch the Home animation, it was the very first peice of content I saw for it. Back in 2021. Two years ago, honestly back then I thought it was a Disney - I'm not joking! I thought it was Disney.

This. I've gotten more people to listen to it! That's always exciting! Been using the Tim's Explosive personality- but- well you should've warned me that Georige and Melanie had one too! In a doffrent way then Tim but still!

And goodness- Martin, I didn't expect him to have a domain- but it made so much sence! With him being an Avatar of the Lonely and all.

And yknow what, thank you Hiveswap, I remember in the ofrst ask I sent, I said you were the one who got me to listen to The Magnus Archives, and I thank you for that- I mean I can't look at the world normally again- everywhere I turn its another entity, there was a fucking infestation of ants on (one) of my hammocks today, it was my favorite one too :< but that is very Corruption. And yet, I don't know, it's genuinely, really, helped me process my own fears, yeah there still there but, it's not as bad as before, The Dark episodes helped me out woth my nyctophobia, especially when they passed through the Domain! I just, thank you Jenna, for the amazing journey.

Ps: just before sending this through I listened to The Magnus Protocol Kickstarter and I gotta say, Sidequel is an AMAZING word.

Hello!! Oh that Home animation is amazing i can see how you thought it was made by professionals. I remember telling you the "tim has am explosive personality" joke omg it's been a while. About georgie and melanie. Well at least they didn't literally explode

I'm so happy you enjoyed it, and yeah no one is ever ready for that ending and I was so messed up over what happened with Helen near the end too. I even named a captured enderman after her before the episode relased...

I actually didn't like s5 all that much for the same reason you said, it was far more brutal than the previous stuff and i was so scared about martin's domain when we found out about it, but it fit him really well i think.

FILE 1. The Beginning of the End (liveblog)

I've been off tumblr for like 10,000,000 years, I only made this blog to make a camp here and there liveblog. I got three episodes in before I decided I wanted to do a dedicated livelog of it. It's still very new, right? I haven't interacted much with the fandom really at all because I don't want spoilers. So please don't spoil anything! I'm only ever up to date on whatever episode I've posted about most recently.

All I know about this series is that it's about a nurse at a summer camp I would've loved to have gone to as a kid. I read a post somewhere recommending it to people who were into The Magnus Archives and were looking for something new after it ended. It was also recommended to people who like the music of Will Wood...

It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize it was because he literally made the music...

I feel like such a fool.

All the characters are entities and all the places are sites??? I think I'll have to line their titles up...

I don't know how I didn't put two and two together that my guy is doing the tunes, this intro is so his vibe...

Chickadees

The main character is Sydney Sargent! They remind me a lot of Cecil from Night Vale

Sydney's diction can be a little hard to understand sometimes, but I think that's mostly because of the speed at which they talk? Are there transcripts for this series?

Season 3 notes popping off

due to my desire to not completely fail all my classes this year i made myself slow down significantly while listening to this season, and the fact that the other person i'm listening along with had to catch up. We've managed to convert several other people to start listening and its pretty great.

ep 81: what does it even mean to be chosen by one of them? And if he was chosen by the eye. we know Gertrude wasnt? Because she cut the eyes out of the magazines?

ep 82: elias lmao. I understand why people like him so much bahshdhdk i thought he was gonna snitch on Jon but he didnt so he's fine. Ok but how do we think he knew all that stuff. Idk probably just institute connections. I love the fact that the recorder just wants to record stuff randomly bjahsjdhd. Elias feels a lot like Michael in the sense that he knows more than he should and talks in a way that implies he just wants to wait and see how things play out for his own benefit. I understand him knowing the things that happened but his description of her emotions implies something paranormal. Maybe he's connected to one of the entities. Which one I cannot guess.

ep 83: did a file get delivered randomly to the place he's staying at? Probably elias lmao. He thinks the mannequin is related to the stranger. Idk I would believe it.

ep 84: worms? I know he says earth worms but idk. Again? Is she making gordon golems out of trash? Martin popping off. You can tell the statements get to him more that they get to Jon. How come martin is so mad about it? I want to assume he just doesnt want her to get stuck there but idk. Jude Perry. The calliope organ. Jon heard a circus in one of the last episodes

ep 89: he's talking to perry? Like jude Perry? He says ... God? Is that what it is? Lmao. The Desolation. Jon is tired of ppl being vague and not telling him stuff lmao. Oh God Jon is so confused. ep 92: elias you all knowing fuck what do you know. (i guess all given what i just said) Lukas. Heard of them before. Mordecai Lukas. Loneliness. The lonely even. Jonah Magnus. Elias ur sounding like a bit of a dickhead rn. lmao jon's just like "i dont care" elias what is ur deal. Why does he want to tie her in. ohh i see. lmao theyre all just like "elias why" The Unknowing lol seems very much like something the eye wouldnt like. lol elias is gettin all philosophical. what does it really mean to be human. this still doesnt answer why gertrude wanted to destroy the archives tho.

ep 93: bahsjdfh he seems so dead inside rip. awww admiral. i love him already. ghh breacon and hope. purple mold. doesnt sound like anything we've seen so far. I think the funniest explanation for breacon and hope is that they dont actually serve the stranger they just kinda happen to be a random neutral party that cart around random spooky entity related stuff. ooooh. when we hear the slight static of the tape recorder it's cuz he's compelling ppl.

ep 94: the end! listen man they were all just grayed up for 4/13.

ep 95: the end also? death but also savagery/ animalistic shit. aww martin. lmao becerra. she's just been chillin in the corner.

ep 96: return to sender. haha minecraft go brr. prediction: breacon and hope? yup there we go. jon why is there an echo. are you in a stairwell? is he gonna eat it- yup. how did i call it. unsure abt what theyre talking about but ok. they kidnapped someone? Sarah Baldwin. ooooh that guy.

ok im just putting this here so i have notes for when nicholas gets to this part. It seems like (from jon's conversation with jude perry) that the desolation and the eye are kinda at odds with eachother? like i guess not directly but it seems like they dont really vibe? so how could be with both. Cuz if he has the heat powers and shit then we know he's an avatar of the desolation. but then why does he have so much eye imagery. also he got burned intentionally? like jude did when she went on her monologue about the feeling of burning? but then why did he wear the eye pendant. it stops him from being burned all the way which seems like he's not fully accepting the fire or whatever.

Nooooo I lost like a bunch of my notes rip. I keep forgetting to save.

Ep 104: tim gives a coherent statement without jon even being there. Ugh. Fucking robert smirk. Dont like him. Joey. Dont recognize the name. The show must go on. Clown. The spooky circus?

Ok now I did some research and finally fixed the ninjas into how they'd fit into the Magnus Institute so here's the stuff, GET READY FOR A RAMBLE :DDD

I have the notes

NOTES:

This AU's timeline is not the same as the original Magnus Archives' timeline! The ninja boys took over the institute long after Jon and the others passed away so have no fear of spoilers for the podcast aside from the existence of entities! :D

Context:

For those who don't understand the TMA universe it is a world where the supernatural exists and people who experience it goes to the Magnus Institute where they give a statement, via letter or a personal statment to the archivist who mostly reads the stories and records it by a tape recorder (because they're old style).

They put it in the records data and gather more information about the supernatural being on whether it is avoidable or could be solved. Sometimes it doesn't even need to get solved and a statment of a supernatural event is good enough.

This supernatural is tied to 14 entities that manufactures these beings through fears. Avatars are people who are tied to these beings either willingly or unwillingly by ritual which gives them certain abilities. You gotta die for it tho.

I'm not gonna go on full detail what these entities are but I will describe my important ones and their traits to have more context to the characters.

The Desolation: what a bitch this entity is, seriously. It's the entity that feeds on fear of pain, loss, burning, fear of unthinking or cruel destruction. Always has a grill party in the backyard. It has a cult.

The Eye: are you a private person? Well Nord VPN can't save you this time. It feeds on the fear of being watched, exposed, followed, having secrets known, drive to know and understand even if it destroys you. Fun times.

The Buried: feeds on the fear of being trapped, pressured, crushed, drowning, heaviness, and sinking. Kinda cool until you find yourself trapped in a coffin for 2 weeks.

The Vast: feeds on the fear of our own insignificance in this universe, loosing yourself in too much space. Basically 12 year old me.

The Web: you like spiders? Well, this entity manufacturers on the fear of being controlled, entrapped, being trapped and not knowing it, your will not being your own, or being manipulated. It is often seen in the symbol of spiders. *shivers*

The Hunt: i love this bitch, the Hunt is so gucci to listen in action. It is the animalistic and initial fear of being hunted/chased or becoming prey. It's Avatars are called Hunters and gain enhanced health and seem predatory and feral.

Now that the entities are out of the way

ON WITH THE CHARACTERS!

Kai Smith

He was invited by Wu to work on the Magnus Institute as a new archivist. Needing a job, Kai agrees where he meets Cole, Jay, and Zane where they soon become great friends after solving a statment that has been abandoned for dacades. Kai is unknowingly an Avatar of the Desolation, which gives Kai has the ability of sharply noticing things others don't, such as information or sentences that doesn't seem important but actually is. (y'all thought i'm giving him fire, hah! Let's not focus too much on that)

Jay Walker

Worked for the institute with Cole and Zane for 4 years before Kai became the new archivist. He works on finding information in high places such as police records or government files. Jay discovered the Vast entity when he was 14, living in the desert with his parents and kind of became an Avatar by accident because he really freaked out when he was suddenly lost in sand dunes with no one around. He has the ability to paralyze people, locking them in place as if frozen even if they're on air.

Cole Brookstone

I've seen plenty of people put Cole as the Avatar of the Buried but GET THIS: HUNTER COLE. Enhanced strength and health, hunts down mosters and avatars he'd love to kill??? :DDD He did get into loads of trouble that connects to the Buried entity but he never really terrified of it so, maybe it's like a respectable fear for it to Cole. He works as the protector and searcher for the institute, the first person hired unwillingly by Wu by binding but soon got used the institute and Wu. At least he can still freely move from place to place rather than just staying in the institute. He can hunt down people easily with just a place and a name and as a Hunter he has this ability to know where people are by touching the ground.

Zane Julien

Second hire after Cole, so both of them are quite close. Zane is orphaned at a young age and couldn't remember remember anything before that. Was hired by Wu which he accepted. Zane was poorly troubled at the thought of his unknown past that he nearly went to the hospital on how unhealthy his research was. The Eye soon made Zane a Avatar, from Zane going mad by paranoia and fear of where he came from that Cole had to stop his hunting schedules and keep Zane down and help him. Zane and Cole eventually was able to heal from Zane's lost past by jokingly making up stories of where Zane came from when Jay arrived. They sometimes tell Jay he is a emperor from japan, that he is a robot heavyly programed to do good and cook kickass food, that Zane trained in a clan of ninjas before Jay learned not to trust anything the two were saying. Jay and Zane enjoy talking alot since they'te both knowledgeable on tech than Cole and Kai. Zane has the ability to put ideas into people's heads that affect their actions, that the 'victim' would think said actions was their idea, like walking out a door.

Lloyd Garmadon

Not part of the Institute. He's a student journalist that goes around poking into people's business and most especially into the Magnus Institute's records which gave a bit of a bad first impression on the guys when they caught him snooping. Lloyd is however allowed access in because of Wu's influences and soon became friends with Kai first, then the others. Lloyd isn't a Avatar which is great because being controlled by an entity kinda sucks but Lloyd is hunted often by the Web because of his fears of being controlled without his will and him going after people and areas with supernatural encounters because, journalism! Cole babysits Lloyd from afar. He often finds comfort around the ninja crew and likes spending time with them other than in school where he's often avoided and ridiculed by his peers. After several weeks the ninjas have all decided that they are willing to die for Lloyd, who they all treat as a younger sibling. Also! Lloyd is totally trans in this au.

And that's that for now! Might write about the side characters if any of you guys want more. It's kinda OOC about the avatars really because it basically canonically takes loads of years for an entity to charge up enough energy to posses an avatar but eh, creative writing for power using boys.

Also you guys probably noticed I didn't make the boy's abilities as their original elements? weeeellll it's kinda because it has to fit in the tma universe where everything is more subtle than outgoing when it comes to powers.

I also noticed that the only way I can write long ass sentences is when I ramble so that's a thing.

The Monkey Archives: Episodes 30-35

Guess who's been forgetting to post his updates like he should be? That's right, this idiot!

Technically they'll still be 'fresh' as they were sent to my friend right after listening, I just forgot to actually crosspost them until now.

Episode 30

God, the Killing Floor. 0.0

That fucking description, both of the place pre-Incident, and what it was like as a labyrinth. I won't say it's the worst one yet, but it's definitely one of the starker ones.

Also, guessing Tom will be a reocurring/reappearing character; just something about his description makes me think 'supernatural entity/avatar' more than just another person caught in the mess.

(And his place was said to be in disrepair after vanishing: was he stapling meat to the walls and floor?)

Also, the stuff about 'slaughter not ending when you close the door' and all the door imagery in the episode.

- MC seeing the 'Exit' and opening a door into the killchute

- Door into the Pit

- Door into the actual outside, letting him free from the labyrinth and the actual factory

- And, semi stretching it, him resigning right after: he 'shut that door' but the abattoir is still going.

And last thing: the builders commenting that the place is large enough. It's Weirdness is starting to wholly spill free? Perhaps boosted by tje weight of all that blood and pain?

Episode 31

God, just...the British-American comparison/contrast. :D

Guns, and distance, and the demeanor differences...

Also, yikes; wolfman was actually scary. Considering what the story's done so far, guessing we'll see him again down the road...

And damn, the post-transcript; the mess with Prentiss has to shift soon, or else the team is gonna snap (which, I guess, would still shift the situation).

Also, something I've noticed for a while but have been forgetting to note: damn, does John do the voices of the characters exceedingly well. Like, droll/condescending John, versus the emotion in the voices of those he's transcribing, is just amazing. It's reminding me of Will Graham from Hannibal weirdly enoguh, though I can't place why...

Episode 32

oh GOD I LISTENED TO HIVE ON THE WAY TO WORK

God, I'm going to need to relisten to that before I go to the next ep. Will send preliminary thoughts as I can, then will send further thoughts during/after second listening.

Ok, on my lunch break, so preliminary thoughts:

Prentiss definitely isn't doing well at transcript time, but unsure how much is her own mental instability - ie, would've happened without the Influence - and how much is her being worn down from the Influence's corruption.

Pretty sure her accounts have codified that 'entity' of the Hive, both as an actual entity and/or perhaps as an 'alignment force', something you resonate with like a tuning fork. There's a phrase that comes to mind from a fic I've read: 'Even inert objects can still shape other ones.'

I'm not sure if the Hive is anything we'd consider 'sapient', but that could be even worse in some ways.

And the Hive hates the Institute, and seeing/understanding stuff. (Eye's domain, perhaps?) So Prentiss isn't just fucking with Martin; she might be gearing up to try and raze it. (Or, she's got Plans, which honestly is more terrifying than plain destruction.)

Also, she used the term Beholding. I've seen that in one or two TMA posts before I started listening, though I don't remember the context; I have a feeling her usage is...unfortunatly correct.

(Ie, both correct, and unfortunate for being so.)

God, just all the ways this chapter relates to the underlying myth arc...

Episode 33

Makes me think of a lottery of sorts? Like, 'The Lottery' where they stone people, or something like Hunger Games. Needing to feed something, or pay a tole perhaps?

(Curious why Sean was voted for and not her, if she kept asking questions the crew didn't want to answer.)

Wondering if the Tundra transports a single piece of cargo, rest is just 'dressing' to keep the facade up.

Also, interesting insights into Lucas family, and their fingers in many paranormal pies. And Elias; I'm torn on whether he's unaware of the true depths of the paranormal stuff, if he's trying to protect John and the others by trying to keep them out of things, or if he's very aware of what they're poking their noses into in a 'secretive, perhaps antagonist' way.

Episode 34

Ok, those kids were creepy. Unsure if we'll see them again: my guess is that, if this connects ro the larger meta-arc, it'll be the main character - Dr. Elliott - reappaearing, or will use John's noting of other academic circles giving the Institute shit as foreshadowing for an arc with 'other institutions attacking the Magnus Institute'.

Also, lol at Dr. Elliott being perfectly fime with the older equipment, especially after my comment guessing 'giving the equipment shit' would be a reoccuring thing.

Episode 35

GOD, Lightner. Also, he's actually encountered in-transcript; guessing the Institute will have fun with that. (Writing this just as tje transcfipt ends, before John comments on the file.)

Also, hey there Jarod! Glad to know you've been in this mess from the teens. (Also, listening to Megadeth; wonder if that's a nod-to anything, lol)

Also, if that room/the tunnels aren't plot-relevant down the road, I'll eat my metaphorical hat; and the same goes for architect Smurk, especially with John noting the paranormal spike regarding his buildings.

(And yes, I'm guessing Smurk's attempt to design churches WILL be relevant to later myth-arc.)

Also, the end of the episode, ohhh dear. I'm...pretty sure I can guess what company just dropped off a package...
