Goro and Akiren's names meaning
So, I've been going through a website for Japanese baby names with their written Kanji meanings too, for a future Akeshu post. and this also required me to visit the Megami Tensei Wiki of our boys to look at what their names mean and---
Akiren and Goro's parents had very different thought processes of importance when naming their newborns and it shows.
(no offense to any Japanese born with the name Goro, spelt with the same Kanji as P5's Goro, I just find this funny. This is purely making fun of a fictional character)
If you're on team Ren Amamiya for P5 Protagonist's name. You already probably know "Amamiya" means "Rain Palace". But what about "Ren"?
The Amamiya's named their son "蓮/Ren", which means "Lotus".
A Lotus flower is a symbol of purity, or "Strength, Resilience, or Rebirth".
For team "Akira Kurusu"
Kurusu means "Chestnut Grove". "Su" = "Nest" or "Grove", "Kuru" = "to come"
"Akira" spelt like this 暁
Means: "Daybreak" or "Dawn", or any form of "bright"
hey, maybe the Kurusu"s named their son after the time he was born.
and then there's Akechi----
The Surname 明智/Akechi (apparently read as "Meichi"??), is an uncommon spelling and means "Wisdom and Sagacity"
That's nice, fitting. Nothing wrong with that.
Now what about Pancake-boi"s first name?
Goro
Depending on what text characters you use, "Go" can mean "five" or "I, my, me, myself".
"Ro" means "Son, or Young Man"
the Kanjis for Goro"s name is indeed 吾郎
吾/Go = I, My, Me, Myself
郎/Ro = Son, Young Man.
MamaKechi really just named her newborn "My Son".
Alternate spelling with a diffferent "Go" Kanji, isn't any better
五 and 伍 = Go (the characters can also be read as Itsu-tsu, or Kumi) translate as "Five", so alternatively he would be named "Fifth Son", which wouldn't make too much sense on Mother's part because Goro is an only child on her side.
On Shido's end though, given his interaction with Women, who knows how many One Night Stand or One Sided Encounters that ended in children being born he's had at this point. Goro could be "Unintentional Half Child" number 5 or higher for all we know. But MamaKechi wouldn't know that.
Point is, why is the P5 fandom only roasting this man for his infamous "Delicious Pancakes" screw up, but not taking advantage of the endless potential of his first name meaning "My Son"?
Because, me personally, I find that hilarious. Oh, if the Phantom Thieves learned that they could tease him mercilessly to the point he drops the Goro entirely when introducing himself to new people.
the possibilities are endless!
Extra: His name being a nod to Kogoro Akechi, a fictional Detective isn't any better. "Kogoro" uses the "Fifth Son" Kanjis, with "Ko" meaning "Small, Tiny, Little". Inspired by a Detective from a mystery novel or not, his namesake inspiration could be translated as meaning "Tiny fifth son"

I love jack champion but i think they shoulda cast a POC/mixed actor for spider bc he's half latino
Hmm, I am going to... disagree.
Normally, I am all for more POC in all media, I think they should be more represented in everything. However, Spider is not half Latino from what we know, he'd be half Hispanic (we guess). It doesn't make him a person of color. Hispanic just relates to being a person from a traditionally Spanish speaking country, Latino/a would be specific to Latin America. None of these are things we know about Spider. All we know about his mother is her last name, Socorro, which is a traditionally Spanish and Portuguese last name. As I mentioned before on this account, those are white European countries. We don't know for sure where Spider is from!
BUT none of this is a reason as to why he should not be a person of color, it's just why there is no evidence he is. Why I think he shouldn't be is more because of what he represents. We have seen mostly white humans up until now, which makes sense as they represent the systemic white European and American imperialism and supremacy that has really ravaged our world. For all that Spider is really a symbol of this fear and trauma for so many Na'vi characters, it seems important to me that he is white.

Hallo! Love your stuff! Hope things are well. If i may be asked, do you have recommendations for someone wanting to learn Blender but don't know where to start? Anyways- take care!
Before we begin, the most important key is F3 It is a search function, to find actions and tools you need. Just keep that in mind. _________________________________________________ I recommend starting by printing out a list of hotkeys and taping it up next to your monitor. For instance, here are some basic important ones you'll use all the time: R - Rotate S - Scale G - Grab/move A - Select All X - Delete Ctrl+Z - Undo Ctrl+Shift+Z - Redo E - Extrude new vertices F - Fill/connect vertices
_______________________________________________ You primarily move your view using the Middle button on your mouse: Middle click + drag - Rotate view around focus Shift + Middle Click + drag - Pan view Alt + Middle Click - Choose a focus ______________________________________________ When you open blender, you begin in Object Mode. You'll find the default cube in the center of the screen. If you click on it, you'll be able to use many of the above hotkeys to manipulate the whole object. Hit tab to switch to Edit Mode, and you'll find that you can select and manipulate individual vertices within that object. Many hotkeys act differently depending on which mode you're in, but you'll most often want to be in Edit mode. ____________________________________________ That's my beginner setup guide. I recommend just going into blender and trying each of these things for a bit. Past that point, you may be ready to google questions you have. (I recommend eventually watching all the "100 blender tips" videos you can find on Youtube. I binged dozens and kept learning useful things the whole time)

stop-that-fool's ICEMAV timeline for Your jeep. Your Teeth. The coffee that you bought me.
AKA where my icemav's story sticks to canon and where it diverges/changes-- all while trying to make it align with real military/historical events.
Also, thank you @sliderkerner for indulging me and saying that you wanted my timeline posted here!
DISCLAIMER! I am in no way an expert of the US Military. This whole 'timeline' should not be taken as fact or canon regarding TOP GUN. I am making this for my own understanding of my icemav story and to help myself and anyone reading keep track of the timeline. This is just for fun and mostly for me.
Quick note about the time off US Military members get. According to this website, people accumulate leave-- 2.5 days per month of work. I don't think that either Mav or Ice are eager to take time off. I can only see them wanting to take time off to visit Carole and Bradley (as Val Kilmer stated, I also believe that Ice does not have the ideal family). That's why a lot of their work seems back-to-back/never ending.
1986-
-The movie stays the same (Goose dies, intense amounts of sexual tension between Ice and Mav, "You can be my wingman anytime" etc., etc.)
-The FIRST change in canon is when Mav states that he's going to try teaching at TOP GUN. In TGM, Mav said he barely lasted one class. Within my story, Mav lasts until 1988.
Between '87 and '88-
-Ice comes to teach at TOP GUN (entirely for the purpose of his career/'resume' for working his way up for promotions etc., etc.)
-While Ice is there (for around 2 TOP GUN classes) that is when Ice and Mav start getting involved romantically.
-But Ice hates teaching. He leaves mid '88 and joins the Iran-Iraq War aboard USS Enterprise.
Late 1988-
-Mav completes one last TOP GUN class after Ice leaves and follows Ice to the USS Enterprise (a happy accident that they were stationed on the same ship). This then allows them to continue their 'involvement' and allow them to fly together again ("Bullshit, you can be mine" blah blah blah).
1990-
-The Gulf War. According to Fandom Wiki both Mav and Ice have the Kuwait Liberation Medal-- meaning they both fought in the Gulf War around this time. (Btw they are no longer on the USS Enterprise as she was no longer involved in the Gulf War past 1989 (I think))
-In my TOP GUN universe, Mav gets another 'kill' during the Gulf War (I have no idea if any naval aviators did this in 1990 (Mav didn't do this canonically) but it happens within the stop-that-fool fanfic universe). Merlin is also Mav's RIO throughout the the Gulf War.
1991-
-BUT Ice has the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) while Mav does not. Mav has the Southwest Asia Service Medal. So, for my story this time in between 1991-92 is when Mav pisses someone off and is moved squadrons/carriers to somewhere in Southwest Asia.
-Both of them, according to these medals, participated in Operation Desert Storm. (Mav also could have participated in Operation Desert Shield due to his Southwest Asia Service Medal.)
-Throughout 1991 they are able to see each other a couple times, but the fact that Mav keeps pissing people off makes it difficult. This is also because Navy deployments on average last between 6-7 months (according to a quick Google search) and for the sake of the story, their deployments and time off in between rarely overlap.
1992-
-This difficulty continues into 1992 where it all comes to a head on Dec. 31st 1992 (Ice's birthday! (Ice does not have a 'canon' birthday, but Dec. 31st is Val Kilmer's and I thought that bday also made sense for Ice)). Que the car scene in ch.4 and the aftermath the next morning.
-Throughout '92, Mav was in Iraq participating in the Iraqi no-fly zones. (I think. I find this UN mandate difficult to understand, especially whether or not the US Navy was involved or not.)
1993-
-Mav and Ice do not see each other in person at all in '93. But as said in ch.4 they-- "...talk about nothing on the phone. Ice never picks him up from the airport again."
-The US Navy also provided air cover for cargo planes that were bringing relief supplies during the Bosnian War. This is where Mav was placed in '93 (pissed off some captain or higher up or something).
-Ice and Mav don't see each other (in person) until '94.
The UNITED NATIONS MEDAL- In the TOP GUN fandom wiki page, both Ice and Mav are listed to have a United Nations Medal. What it does not state, and what I cannot find anywhere online, is what conflict they were a part specifically of for them to receive this medal. There are multiple options throughout the 1990's and 2000's that could have led to this award. BUT for the sake of my story, I will only be considering/applying conflicts that took place between 1994-98.
Between 1994 and '96-
-I think Ice received the UNPROFOR United Nations Medal for his service during the Yugoslav Wars. This is where he was between 1994-95. As I stated in ch.3 he was stationed somewhere in Europe after he and Mav 'break up' (I can't figure out what United Nations Medal Mav could have received-- it's difficult to figure out US Navy specific peacekeeping missions he could been involved in besides UNPROFOR.))
1997-
-It's around this year that Mav uses some of his accumulated vacation days to spend a longer period with Carole and Bradley. Ice is still stationed in Europe (workaholic).
1998-
-After Mav's time off, he's deployed again to Iraq.
As I mentioned in a previous post, not a lot of things happen in early to mid 1998 in regards to military conflicts, BUT Operation Desert Fox happens in December of 1998. I think the military would need to have people around before the operation before completing something of that scale. AKA that's why Mav is there in June.
-Then on an undisclosed date in early June, Mav crashes as stated in ch.1 (“You dodged some crazy bastards up there, then hit a bird. The plane crashed into the ground, and you ejected and landed on some rocks...").
-Mav is transferred to a hospital in California as he needs special surgery for his shattered knee cap.
-Ice has been in California for a couple days when Mav gets there because his paternal grandfather is dying (another happy accident that his grandfather is in the same hospital as Mav (god i love plot armour)). Ice had previously been permanently stationed somewhere in Europe (to get away from his family, Mav, and to work up to a promotion).
-Carole dies a couple days after Mav is released from the hospital. Bradley is now under Mav's legal guardianship. They move into military provided family housing on the Lemoore Naval Air Station with Mav teaching at the SFWSPAC (Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific) once his injuries heal.
-Ice then reveals that he has requested to be stationed in California with Mav (the request was approved, Ice is now near both his family AND Mav... he's so silly).
-On June 21st 1998, Mav, Ice and Bradley drive out to West California to the beach cottage Mav rented (courtesy of Viper) with the plans of celebrating Bradley's birthday on June 27th (finally someone with a canon bday thank u Bradley).
Anyway, that's all we got so far! I would just like to say again that I am in no way claiming that this is accurate or canon. I also can't guarantee that I understand all of the wars, conflicts, operations, and details of the US military that I stated previously. So if I got something wrong; any of the language I used, details of the wars and conflicts stated, I apologize! Very deeply. From the depths of my soul.

Here me out. Stendyle fic where Kyle has Hanahaki disease. It first begins with him loving Stan and coughing out lavender petals. devotion, serenity, grace, and calmness. He's confused and talks to Kenny about it, and they conclude it's from Hanahaki. Kyle is scared; he can't confess. Because hes with Wendy, Kyle doesnt want to break them up. So he attempts to ignore Stan so he doesn't have to face the consequences of Hanahaki disease. Kenny doesn't like the idea, but he doesn't do anything about it; he swore he couldn't say anything. Cartman teases him about it, but Kyle doesnt give two shits anymore.
Eventually Wendy confronts him about it and asks him what's going on because why is he ignoring his SBF? Kyle says that he just hasn't been feeling well lately and has been stressed. She understands and invites him to her house so they can work on a science project together, to which he agrees, because he kinda needs help and Wendy is the only one who understands (since she's an honors student too). It was good, and Kyle realizes that she's pretty cool, and they hangout frequently, perhaps to talk about their classes or projects. So he starts talking to Stan again, but when he does he starts coughing up different petals. Pink roses. Grace, happiness and gentleness. He panics, because they're different now. He loves Stan. He thought he did. Does he love Wendy now...? No, that can't be possible. He can't possibly love them *both*. He's not the one in the relationship. He'd ruin it. So he avoids both of them, which he prevails at. But not for long.
2 weeks later, he's in class when suddenly he's coughing. Coughing back. And he's choking. Kenny attempts to help him but it's the flower choking him. He passes out in his own blood and flowers. And he's rushed to the hospital. Stan and Wendy walk in while Kyle is staring at the ceiling. Oh no, not now. Anytime but now. They say something but he coughs up more petals. Wendy asks if it's because of Hanahaki, and he says yes, ashamed of himself.
Stan tells him he needs to confess or else he'll die. Kyle says he knows but he can't because he loves two people but he can't confess because they'll reject him. Wendy puts her hand on his own, and smiles sadly.
"We know."
Kyle is shocked. They know he loves them. Well, this was it. They'd tell him they don't reciprocate and leave him and he'd have to get surgery to remove the disease but he'd forget everything about his SBF and recently found friend and he doesn't want that and-
He's cut off from his thoughts by a kiss. Two, actually. On both sides of his cheeks. He stares at them wildly. Did they just kiss him? Did that mean-
"Me and Wendy talked it out, dude. And we realized... we love you. A lot. And we've wanted to say so for weeks but you kept avoiding us."
"R...really?" He sounds pathetic but he doesn't care. They love him. They both do. And he loved them.
"Yes," Wendy whispers.
"I love you two so much." Kyle responded, tears forming in his eyes. They loved his stupid self. They loved him back.
From that day on, Kyle no longer coughed up flowers, and sometimes you can see all three of them have their hands intertwined with each other.

Re-listening to Danse Macabre, an old fashioned waltz — bits and pieces from a good omens fan.
Et vive la mort et l’égalité!
Tumblr media
My take: something has been lost when looking at this lovely tone poem if all we get is awfulness or despair. This dance is the embodiment of seizing the day (or night in this case) even past death.
Tumblr media
First though, if you’re into this kind of thing, is some analysis of how it is constructed.
Everything is meant. “The piece begins with twelve repeated notes from the harp, signifying a clock striking midnight. The violin scratches out a series of imperfect fifths that do not resolve as they should in well-mannered tonal music. The devil is warming up to play a diabolical dance in a fast waltz time. The waltz had only lately become respectable.”
Tumblr media
The original song-poem lyrics with English translation can be found here. More thoughts under the cut:
It’s hard to hope that links speak for themselves if someone is skimming a goofy post like this. The lyrics, then, French and English:
“Danse macabre
Zig et zig et zig, la mort cri en cadence
Frappant une tombe avec son talon,
La mort à minuit joue un air de danse,
Zig et zig et zag, sur son violon.
Le vent d’hiver souffle, et la nuit est sombre,
Des gémissements sortent des tilleuls;
Oh! La belle nuit pour le pauvre monde!
Et vive la mort et l’égalité!
*
Tap, tap, tap—Death rhythmically (1997) English translation © Richard Stokes
Tap, tap, tap—Death rhythmically,
Taps a tomb with his heel,
Death at midnight plays a gigue,
Tap, tap, tap, on his violin.
The Winter wind blows, the night is dark,
The lime-trees groan aloud;
White skeletons flit across the gloom,
Running and leaping beneath their huge shrouds
Tap, tap, tap, everyone’s astir,
You hear the bones of the dancers knock,
A lustful couple sits down on the moss,
As if to savour past delights.
Tap, tap, tap, Death continues,
Endlessly scraping his shrill violin
A veil has slipped! The dancer’s naked!
Her partner clasps her amorously.
They say she’s a baroness or marchioness,
And the callow gallant a poor cartwright.
Good God! And now she’s giving herself,
As though the bumpkin were a baron!
Tap, tap, tap, what a saraband!
Circles of corpses all holding hands!
Tap, tap, tap, in the throng you can see
King and peasant dancing together!
But shh! Suddenly the dance is ended,
They jostle and take flight—the cock has crowed…
Ah! Nocturnal beauty shines on the poor!
And long live death and equality!”
Look, these words and the instrument choices speak of equality in the state of death. Possibly a bit the way Crowley would.
Tumblr media
Death wasn’t and couldn’t be hidden politely during those days. The arts featured the dance of the dead, just as we still see Memento Mori in media today. The balance of return from oblivion to celebrate outside of hierarchies was not new. Even the dead could still seize the night. Joy does not die.
Tumblr media
Remember Crowley saying that people will be equally dead whether they are killed by Heaven or Hell up in that graphic? If anything, this little note from the domesticated Bentley might be a little rebellion, if not overkill. Maybe it’s A Clue to Aziraphale that they might celebrate a little late if he insists on this trip while ignoring Crowley, just as the Bentley’s musical gift to Crowley of the Nightingale reprise in season two.
Tumblr media
Look at what the lyrics said.
The dance was already a part of folk custom or lore, and the xylophone was a country instrument. Saint Saëns was well aware of this, and used both the barely acceptable waltz as the dance and coarse instrument of country-folk. This was done deliberately.
This conservative, restrained composer made choices throughout the work. A dance which had been scandalous not so long ago and an instrument ‘of the people’ so to speak. Composed to fit the exacting pattern of “the devil’s interval”which you can read about here, too (yes it can matter). I’m a geek for this kind of thing so here’s that link again.
The idea of the dance already existed, what he did was to elevate it to something so moving and strong that it endures today, despite its original reception by his contemporaries.
The message of the lyrics is lost in the final product, which is a pity for Good Omens fans, but the delight in the dance remains. There is a freedom, celebration and again, an equality among the freed dancers. (Crepes, anyone?) They take their joy where they can, even if the devil plays the tune.
Like Orff’s Carmina Burana, another work celebrating earthly delights and perils, (Ox rib anyone?) O Fortuna being the most recognizable of this work, Danse Macabre is often used to enhance or promote something only in fragments, very specifically omitting the resolved and therefore to me, ‘peaceful’ end to both works.
Tumblr media
I seldom hear the resolution of the frantic dance in the promotion of a scary movie or even as used in Hush, an episode of Buffy (yes, the one with The Gentlemen, on one of the links). This does Danse Macabre a great disservice. The point and the peace are cut off abruptly, leaving the listener waiting for the music to knit itself up at dawn. For this listener, the omission is a constant irritant, but I am perhaps an odd duck. I do have ears though, and they know the difference between resolved and not.
Tumblr media
It’s oddly like a cliffhanger, really, when only part of the work is played.
While some people say that this piece is “suffocating” or “overwhelming” I can only wonder at the variety of human experience. There is so much unencumbered joy in Danse Macabre, so much literal freedom of the souls to have this time to celebrate.
Young children are routinely introduced to classical music with this piece. If it were so utterly fearsome, it would be a poor choice indeed for such a task.
What it is, without a doubt, is a composition in old fashioned waltz time that goes far from the norm while following a form.
What else could the Bentley give Aziraphale but that truly intimate dance, a waltz, to the tune of equals and a taste of brimstone?
Tumblr media
After all, he has standards.

Hey, because I'm pretty sure I'll be saying this for the rest of my life to everyone I meet, it will become the thing I say instead of "hello", I will get it tattooed across my forehead:
If you live in the United States and have been told you need to wait 12 months to apply for Social Security disability benefits, that is incorrect. You can apply immediately, the moment you think you need benefits.
You just need to have a condition that you expect will continue for 12 months or longer. You can also apply if you're still working (though it is generally easier to get approved if you aren't.)
There are even options for people who have a spouse with income -- (though it is much harder, which is bullshit.)
The system sucks and should 100% be better, but there are still many people who qualify but don't apply (or wait a year to apply) because they think they can't!
If you think you need benefits but aren't sure if you're eligible, this is a really helpful guide for applying. It uses simple language and covers a lot of possibilities. This section is about how to tell if you're eligible to apply!

Hey have you ever had anyone offer you ‘concrit’ for your work? Have you ever had to deal with that as a fanfic writer?
I declined politely as my writing is just a passion project that I do for fun and as an outlet, I receive enough constructive criticism doing my day job and if I start worrying too much about being perfect and pleasing everyone - my hobbies will start to feel like work too. I declined but... Now it's eating at me a bit that there was something they had issue with haha.
Also you're the best I hope you don't mind me asking for advice ily x
I've had some people offer, yes. However it's a hard pass from me. I appreciate that some people want to help make things better but imo there's a difference between a casual 'by the way, this word actually means X just FYI' which is helpful and 'the way you write dialogue is stunted and overdone you may want to do XYZ to make it more engaging.'
(both of those are real examples😆)
Now...some people like that second option. That's how they want to improve and that's cool, but for me personally if I post something I'm happy with how it is and and like you, I write as an outlet. If I'm getting critiqued, structured criticism ya girl better be getting paid for it 😂
Having said that, I do ask select writer/reader friends to look over snippets I'm unsure of. Brainstorm. Ask for honest feedback. And I do the same for them if they wish. I wouldn't class that as "concrit" though.
Sidenote: Remember that readers that offer constructive criticism and enjoy doing that in a formal way and are polite about it are (on the whole) coming from a good place. There will be nothing 'wrong' with your work, however to them they can perhaps see areas for improvement (let's face it don't we all have those). Like everything, though, it's just their opinion. If you are happy with what you're publishing, then don't sacrifice your style you love. We all improve naturally anyway, so let it flow.
**also I don't think this needs to be said but 'constructive criticism' unprompted is a total dick move, don't do that oh my god we have enough anxiety issues plz. Fic writers do it for fun don't be an askhole. Yes, askhole.

What are your favorite versions of Odysseus? I quite liked Sean Bean…
Sean Bean as Odysseus should have gotten his own movie, to be honest. He suits that role very much and I would have loved to see him descent into his grief at sea. I didn't like the movie Troy itself, but Hector and Odysseus were reason enough to keep watching. My favourite has been in the series Fall of a City. I found Joseph Mawle's portrayal just spot on. The pain and conflict, the madness of watching time go. And then the decision he has to make in the end, to choose home over something he will never forgive himself for. I could sit and talk about his portrayal for ages. He's a very talented actor, and suits the role very much. I will say, I am quite excited for the Odysseus movie that got announced - Ralph Fiennes as the man himself? I am sold. And it will take place when Odysseus arrives home already, so we will get a glimpse of the hero in his tragedy phase. I am also very interested to see Penelope finally, she is one of the most fascinating (and smart) characters in Greek myth. Thanks for the ask anon! I will always ramble about Odysseus.

Thanks for your insights, truly appreciate it!! Me too i've only been watching more of the highlights and some full games, but i read a lot of hockey stuff to understand the game even more. the general mood may be down in pensland now and it could be easy to feel that way when it seems that almost every other team besides 2 or 3 is squeaking out wins early in the year while we're doing every no no in a hockey game possible. when you look at the standings it looks like 24 teams have winning records now in the first 10 games vs the pens' 4-5-2 record but honestly half of them will likely not keep up with their current pace. It was infuriating to see read those beat writers from teams with winning records (cough Isles cough) laughing at our struggles and write us off early in the season. it's easy to mock us now but what if at some point in the season the situations are reversed inevitably? I always say to myself, hockey can be a cruel mistress. you can be on top of the league 10 games in then go on to have a historic losing season. the pens can have a bottom 10 record after 10 games but with a few tweaks and a little more puck luck, we will also enjoy the same success the other teams are having to start the season.
besides it's difficult to determine which teams are for real and which teams are just riding lady luck to begin the season. there'll be injuries and cold streaks and poor goaltending and puck luck that will hit every team throughout the season. it's just unfortunate that the pens can't catch a break and are facing a lot of adversity early on. but if we spent the whole time wishing we were as good as this team based off a very small sample size, that's dangerous thinking. plus will we really be better off if we faced little adversity throughout the season? don't think so. i do agree with the general opinion that the league standings are more taken seriously by the 41-game mark.
that's my thoughts for now. i don't think sid and geno will let this slide any further. and in all honesty, i think this is one of the stretches that will make us look back and be glad it happened sooner rather than when it is too late for a turnaround. let all those writers get smug about their early success now - marathon not a sprint. it will be interesting to see how their team responds the second adversity hits them and when their unsustainable winning ways catch up to them. what will they say if their team gets hit by a lengthy losing streak later in the year? the season is early to make sound assumptions about every team and things can change in a snap
People forget (and rightly so it was a long time ago at this point) that we slumped hard all the way into December before turning things around and winning the cup in 2016. Heck last year we looked terrible after the trade deadline and then looked amazing the first couple games of the playoffs. It’s a long season you never know when someone will make a change and the team will get their shit together.
As for reporters being smug, I’m very much a don’t like don’t read fellow in addition to being an unrepentant homer. I only want to read nice things about my team doing good and bad things about my enemies doing badly. We’re in a slump so I simply do not see my athletic subscription because it will only make me upset and sad about things I can’t control. Also I’ve lost a lot of trust for Yohe and Rossi after Geno’s free agency fiasco. They are not going to give me the content I want so I simply have forgotten how to read.
I never read other teams articles/beat reporters unless it’s a player puff piece because they are never going to say nice things about us. It’s literally their job to be critical and smug. Nobody likes to admit that Sidney Crosby is still really good at hockey, that’s why it’s the coldest hot take in the league, but everyone wants to write is he washed up reaction pieces because they cause outrage and get clicks. If they ever say a nice word it will be begrudgingly and at most a backhand compliment. They are also unrepentant homers claiming they don’t have biases because they’re reporters. It’s annoying but that’s the facts.
The only league-wide content I consume is Steve Dangle’s highlights stuff because I appreciate him being an unrepentant leafs fan who also likes good hockey. He’s soft on some teams and harder on others when it comes to what makes the highlights but at least he’s up front with it all. I’ve taken a hiatus from watching that too cause I don’t like when we show up getting scored on or making mistakes. It feels bad and so I simply do not.
This may sound like I’m sticking my head in the sand but all of this stuff is optional and it’s just going to make me upset if I consume it. One of the hardest parts I’ve found is learning to disconnect and not take losses personally. I want the hyperfixation to produce the good chemicals and none of the bad stuff and surely the more I consume the more good chemicals I will get? Except that’s not really the case during slumps it becomes a downward spiral chasing the light at the end of the tunnel and the easiest way to not do that is limit my intake and find joy in other things. I skipped last nights game for those reasons and had a lovely time watching taskmaster with my partner. Hockey is a marathon. It’s important to take breaks and pace yourself. There’s a lot of content. Picking and choosing what to consume (up to and including skipping games) is important.

The first one of these that I hadn't heard of before, La Llorona is a crying woman who is found near water, she drowns children and seems to generally be one of those stories to scare children from going near water unsupervised which is fair!

Hey this is probably a dumb question, but how do you write an image ID?
I can tell you what little I know, but I am not an expert by any means, nor should I be considered an authority on the subject; I'm just trying to make my blog a little more accessible.
For good examples, please check out the blog @/accessible-art . They describe art as much as they can, and they would likely give better advice than I would.
If you still would like to hear what I know, here it is:
What I do is try to describe as much of what's in the image as possible without too many words and without adding any subjective opinions. Key details like colors, poses, shapes, styles, and expressions take priority when I describe my own art.
With a text screenshot, make sure to include the name of the person who said it if their name is in the shot, and the source if possible. Double check your transcription.
Also: treat words typed with numbers as letters as though they need an ID, or tag them undescribed. I have seen multiple screen reader users complain about Homestuck quirks.
And: Never fill the alt text with anything but an image description! I have seen so many people complain about that. A picture of a person holding a rock should be "person holding a rock" not "Image 1" or "teehehe let me tell you a pun here!"
There's more than one way I've seen people add alt text.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, A DISCLAIMER:
I am not someone who needs image descriptions. I am sighted, do not require a screen reader for Tumblr, and usually do not have trouble reading strange or edited fonts.
I am not the target audience for an ID, so it would be better to research further if you want your IDs to be good.
I would also like people who are more qualified to correct any unintentional errors in this post. I am also looking to improve my IDs.
I wish you the best of luck!
Anyone who has better advice, please add on!
(do not use this post to talk about hating image descriptions.)
