the sonic fandubs mean everything to me

just asking, what if an iterator possibly gets too hot or cold? What happens if they can’t get to safer temps with out outside forces? What if they can’t get to safer temps at all?

Do you mean superstructures or puppet-bound iterators? I'm sure superstructures have a lot of failsafes to deal with temperature fluctuations, mostly via processing water intake. They're living saunas! They probably have an incredible resistance to both hot and cold, as evidence shows.

I'll talk about puppets here, but if you meant superstructures, well... a lot of what I'll say here could apply to superstructures too.

(For puppet-bound iterators, I am referring to my AU CDSS)

For heat: Puppet-bound iterators, like their former superstructure bodies, run hot and need to stay hydrated. They rely on liquid coolant that runs throughout their bodies. Ruptures in the coolant system are one of their many common problems, but with medical aid, they're not too serious. Many cases are self-healing, or the rupture will seal itself off and reroute around the blockage - like with collateral circulation. Leaks into essential systems are more of a concern than the actual loss of coolant. As long as they stay cool and drink water while waiting to get fixed, they tend to be fine.

If they are stuck in a hot region and can't escape, they'll suffer from dehydration, heat stroke, fried components, damage to organic tissue, seizures... pretty much what you'd expect. As a superstructure, Moon probably suffered from all this leading up to her collapse.

For cold: They're fairly resistant for a few reasons. One is the antifreeze in coolant. Another is the heat that they naturally produce. I'm thinking they have silicone-based skin, which is very cold resistant. They have hemocyanin, which tends to function better in extreme cold than hemoglobin. (Hemocyanin can also work at hotter temperatures. I have like a whole essay about this that I still intend to post lol.) However, the puppets have been modified to have more flexible and sensitive skin - dexterity in exchange for some durability. They're more susceptible to the perception of cold than they would be if they were a still a superstructure. Many of them also dislike snowscapes on principle, because they've been freezing their decaying metal butts off for centuries by the time CDSS happens.

Iterators in both forms are very moist, so if it's cold past their limits, their mechanical components will freeze. And like with hypothermia in fully organic beings, prolonged time in extreme cold will lead to tissue death and organ failure. Superstructures with fractured exteriors (direct exposure of internal parts to the cold air) are especially susceptible to this.

Misc theory about superstructures: Moon's superstructure was able to stay intact into Saint's era because she collapsed straight down into the water, preserving most of her shape. The canyon water could have provided the pressure and circulation she needed in the absence of gravity cores, as well as protection against land pests and insulation against the cold. Remnant slag could have her generate excess heat as well, which would keep the water surrounding her unfrozen. In a way, dying like that could have helped her live longer?!

the parallels between wrio and king remus are crystal clear. remus who descended upon meropis (a name very familiar to anyone who knows of the fortress of meropide) in his golden fortuna, the legendary ship of remus that is also called the bringer of civilization and glory (wrio who built a ship to deal with the misfortune upon fontaine) is an example of it.

wrio also has connections to hades with the cerberus motif as guardian of the underworld. it's curious that the tower in remuria is described not only as not built to receive heavenly oracles, serving as a guide to ships traveling between islands, but also as a border of reality and dreams. if this is not necessarily literal but a metaphor or allegory, it could fit very well with the idea of a portal between domains or realms, like life and death.

wriothesley also parallels another character in the genshin universe and that person is arlecchino. they were brought up as orphans, taken in by an institution with corrupted leaders, which they reformed and achieved a leading position of. and funnily enough, she has ties to purgatory (a place for punishment, much like the fortress). as i have said in another post, purgatory has been described by dante as a tower leading to heaven. but we also know that celestia in the genshin world is associated with the demon realm - archons being named after ars goetia, an anonymous grimoire on demonology. although the concepts aren't the same in theory, is it impossible that the game has used elements of both? wriothesley and arlecchino's themes are similar enough to overlap. even though i don't expect wriothesley to be lore revelant anymore, i do think his ties to remuria and his role as someone who punishes others for their sins, much like arlecchino, is very much purposeful.

New ship dynamic: who's the bull and who's the matador :)

I think, in this AU, Fernando is generally pretty fond of Seb when he first meets him. Like "ah yes my very own protégé, very nice, I shall mold him in my image." But then Seb starts veering off that course. Bullfighting is all about being dramatic, but Seb maybe has a bit too much(🤏) flair for the dramatic. This escalation starts while he's still Fernando's assistant but he keeps it generally at bay. But god when he becomes a matador himself, he's just off the rails insane.

Bullfighting, to me, is a sport about reckless endangerment of one's self in the pursuit of drama and performance(its literally described as a tragedy in three acts.) But Fernando thinks Seb endangers himself *too* much, not because he cares or anything, but he's making a mockery of the sport!! Especially when Seb starts doing that bull hand symbol(seen above), Fernando just keeps become more enraged with him, not anything to do with the fact that Seb is threatening his records and threatening his own wellbeing, nah of course not.

Seb's gesture is making a mockery of the sport, he's disrespecting the culture, the very nature of it, blah blah blah. Jenson once asks Fernando, after noticing him seething while watching Seb do his gesture, "Which bull are you really trying to defeat?" One could also describe Fernando and Seb's relationship as a "tragedy with three acts."

Anyways Fernando gets very tied up with this rivalry. Even after suffering a severe injury(I have yet to decide, but y'know mchonda electrocution core), he quickly returns to the sport, loath to let Seb get any more headway. And then Seb gets injured, poor little sweet Seb, and neither of them can handle it. Though I already covered this in my prev lore post 🤭 and I think I put it pretty viscerally there so!! I digress.

They're both matadors, but the bull itself is not the only bull Fernando wants to conquer. Conquer as in death? Hm.

Again, this is asking a lot from Bethesda, and I wouldn't worry if they didn't consider or think of this.

But it would be so, absolutely so amazing if they had a sleazy scummy antagonistic Ghoul whose trying to take advantage of the fact that Lucy is naive and new to the world to oversell things, who doesnt affect the plot of the story but is a recurring character, possibly a merchant of type.

Just so we get a nice variety of Ghouls, as a fun treat.

Some ff7 OC refs I threw together for myself! They're all used in the fic I've been writing which I plan to start sharing before the summer is over. They are Aura Golden's new coworkers.

From left to right:

Darian (he/him, age 45), Mengyao (she/her, age 25), Rigel (he/him) and Rachel (she/her) (identical twins, 19, one of them is trans!), and Xavier (he/him, 29)

Darian is the manager of this group + Aura, who are a special team of scientists called the "S Team" (more on this in fic). He was a very successful military general for Shinra, but the experience left him physically and emotionally scarred, and at some point Heidegger forced him to take the fall for a botched operation, leading to him being severely sidelined. He is aromantic, and uses his wealth from working for Shinra to house and support his mother, as well as his sister and her husband and kids. All of them live together. For an ex-military general, he is a very compassionate individual, and excels in effective communication and resource management.

Mengyao is daughter to Wutaian immigrants. She loves women and nonbinary people (jury is out on her feelings towards men because I have not decided). She previously worked under Hojo preparing and maintaining the machines he needed to do his experiments. She has experienced a significant amount of racism in Midgar and in her career. Others in Hojo's labs bullied her, but despite this she continued to gain accolades with her work, and she is a determined person who never gives up, despite her meek and quiet appearance.

Rigel and Rachel are identical twins, who were orphans taken in by Shinra at a young age. They were born with the unique ability to communicate instantly via telepathy. They were stealing to live when Shinra eventually caught them. Rachel became a SOLDIER, and a favorite lab rat of Hojo's, reaching Second class. Rigel was machinery maintenance worker under Heidegger for the Roboguard (autonomous robots). He learned a great deal about how they worked, and occasionally made his own upgrades in secret. Rachel is quick to anger and snark at folks. Rigel struggles to express emotions on his face, giving him a perpetual resting bitch face, but he is actually very compassionate and far gentler than his sister.

Xavier worked under Scarlet. He is from a relatively well to-do plate family, and is a talented materia research. He does have a bad habit of poking peoples' buttons when he shouldn't, and this eventually led to Scarlet losing patience with him and almost killing him in a burst of rage. When he recovered from this, he found he had been transferred to Hojo to work on mass materia production with no research elements. This did not put a dent in his chipper attitude or his mischievous nature. Outside of Darian, he is the only extrovert within the S Team, and it shows, as he has a knack for bringing people together (when he isn't needling them, that is).
