Cole Sprouse reunited with an old friend

Searlait wasn’t sure how she had managed to make it out of the village alive, but she wasn’t going to question a gift from the gods. She had managed to escape without any major injuries, with only bumps and bruises and a small, bleeding cut above one of her eyes, but so many had not been so lucky. She ran until she could no longer hear the screams, ignoring her growing exhaustion and pain, before finally stumbling upon a rocky outcropping where she could collapse. It was cold, even as spring approached, but the nights would be colder and a fire would be dangerous.

Days passed. She had managed to stay hidden for days now, coming out tentatively each day to find berries and nuts, which had often already been picked over by animals, and water. She didn’t know what she was waiting for, but she didn’t know anywhere else to go, either. She hadn’t seen or heard from anyone, and as days stretched into a week, she was certain that the chances of her being found or her finding anyone were becoming slimmer and slimmer.

One day, though, as she sat in the silence of the forest, she heard footsteps crunching wetly in the melting snow. She drew the work knife she kept on her belt and waited, trying to stay as silent as she could as she waited for the person to pass… only they didn’t. The person gave a groan before collapsing and before she could truly think better of it, she clambered forward and stuck her head out to look around, immediately finding the person laying in the slushy snow. She hesitated for a moment, trying to decide what to do, before taking up her crutch and her knife and cautiously stepping out of the cave and over to kneel beside the collapsed figure, only to give a tearful gasp that was more of a sob as she turned the person onto his back and then pulled him up into her lap to hug him out of sheer relief. Maybe all wasn’t lost, after all. Maybe, just maybe, the gods had given her her friend back.
