Freij
Freije
Known for their fringed ears, thick dark hair, and natural resistance the frigid temperatures of the north.
Freije seals take on a white or pale-blue hue, contrasting against their dark skin. Typically asymmetrical and unique to each individual, they have been widely (and fittingly) remarked as resembling snowflakes and frost, consisting of radial pattern of crystal-like markings.
Matriar
The military and naval prowess of Freij is recognized across Elothia, and its Matriar reflects that. As Leader and Admiral, She dons the military vestments of the region, although ornamented and embroidered to indicated Her regal station. She also carries on Her person, just as the officers under Her, a dagger and sabre. Typically these would be highly decorated commissioned works, much like Her chokha and kalpak. However the current Matriar has forgone the tradition, preferring to don and wield the standard arms of her men.
As Impero recently saw a Patris leave the throne, Freij is likely to see one on theirs in the coming centuries as the current Matriar has only one son and seemingly no interest in bearing another child.
Czars
State officials and Generals to Her Majesty. Much like the Matriar, Czars are outfitted in military garb and keep a dagger and sabre on their person. While still decorated to denote them as officers of import, it is not to the level of the Matriar.
Citizens
Despite the high tolerance to the northern climate that they have become known for, Freije are born incredibly susceptible to the cold.
Newborns are heavily swaddled in thick furs and kept indoors for the most of their first year. Even when younglings are finally able to be brought outdoors, they do so thoroughly bundled up, almost comically, in several layers of thick clothing and furs.
It's not until adolescense that the Freije's cold tolerance truly begin to build up. They begin to strip away their heavy coats, scarves and furs, and many, many, layers as the years proceed, and by their first century the typical Freije can brush off the low temperatures with far lighter apparel. To the outsider experiencing the bite of Freij's Spring chill for the first time, they may even look underdressed.
In opposition to this are the region's wealthier merchants, barons, and city officials. Setting themselves up at higher altitudes, far above the crowded docks and fish markets, even their natural resistance isn't quite enough to keep out the colder mountain winds. As a result, upper class Draken remain relatively bundled up well after maturing - a fact that's earned the ridicule of many common folk, thinking it make them look childish.

New idea: Kalinka following in her father's footsteps and becoming a prodigy in the field of robotics... So that she can create the best possible gifts for her girlfriend.
Upgrades Kalinka gives Roll (and maybe later distribute to other robot masters) might include:
- the ability to eat and gain/store energy from food

Suddenly, not more than twenty paces away, as he first thought, he saw massive mountains, clean and white in their gentle contours, the intricate, distinct line of the peaks and the sky. As the troika sped over the smooth road, the mountains looked as if they were running along the horizon, the rose-colored peaks sparkling in the rising sun. At first the mountains merely took Olenin aback, then they filled him with joy; but then, the more he looked at the chain of mountains that rose not from behind other mountains but straight out of the steppe, the more he felt them. At that moment everything he saw, everything he thought, everything he sensed, took on the stern and majestic character of the mountains. All his Moscow memories, the shame and repentance, all his foolish and trivial dreams about the Caucasus, disappeared forever. It was as if a solemn voice told him: “Now it has begun!” The road, the outline of the river Terek visible in the distance, the Cossack villages, and the people—all this now seemed to him no longer trivial. He looks at the sky and sees the mountains. He looks at himself, at Vanyusha—again the mountains. Two Cossacks ride by, their rifles in slings bouncing lightly on their backs, and the brown and gray legs of their horses blur—again the mountains…. #this is right at the beginning of the book but it absolutely gets me every time#the moment when Olenin falls absolutely head-over-heels in love with the mountains#the opening chapters he's bemoaning how he's never been in love. he's has all these moments that /should/ have been love but weren't#and then suddenly bam. the mountains#and just like that his life opens up wide before him#I've had moments like this while traveling also#Tolstoy just captures the moment where a stunning landscape opens up around you so vividly#and the effect on one's soul#will probably share more from the Cossacks i love that book#but this is a good place to start#pontifications and creations#happy birthday tolstoy#russia where are you flying to?#literature makes us more human

just read a synopsis for a book that described itself as “enemies to lovers fantasy reimagining of anastasia’s story” in its literal official bio and want to immediately walk into the sea
#personal#first of all for the love of god stop using tropes to describe your stories#just let them stand up on their own#second of all i read the description beyond that and like#can't help but feel like it's a bit tasteless#it's not an asoiaf or deathless thing where the story is clearly INSPIRED by smth and some figures might be directly analogous#but it's still its own fantasy world#no this is literally just the romanovs and russia in the 20th century but with magic involved and anastasia falling in love#with the romanov's impoverished cossack ward#(who is named damien????? obviously the very russian name of damien?????)#(honestly bet that they wanted to use dmitri but couldn't because of the movie so we have this bullshit)#but seriously this feels a bit of a bridge too far#yeah yeah historical fiction and yeah yeah the romanovs sucked as rulers but like#the innocent kids involved deserve to be treated with a modicum of respect within a historical narrative#and not have stories about anastasia's magical connection with rasputin that'll turn the tide of war or some shit#(yes the rasputin thing is also in the description)#but literally how is this story supposed to end#you're telling me a ya trope story is going to be true to the history and end with them all getting butchered in a basement?#fuck outta here i will bet money the author is gonna try and alternate history this like it's once upon a time in hollywood

Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?
I do not think Archie Comics aged well, and every detail I find about them and what happened behind the scenes just makes them worse. It doesn't help that Ikehara + Izuki managed to cover a lot of games without the added... bullshit. You can say that a lot of Ikehara's earlier work is cut and dry, but it matches the games' feel and story type better in my opinion.

Terrible news from australia: crazed incel joel cauchi, motivated by extreme misogyny, launched a stabbing attack in the bondi westfield shopping mall that resulted in the deaths of six people—five of them women—dozens injured, and left a baby girl motherless. The only man killed was a security officer, Pakistani immigrant Faraz Tahir, who bravely and tragically risked his life trying to stop Cauchi.
Unfortunately, due to the insane media climate these days, propagandists seized on the attack to try and push an agenda, lead by notorious tankie fascists simeon boikov and maram susli; they spread falsehoods claiming that a jewish man named ben cohen (one of the most common Jewish names btw) was responsible for the attack, motivated by an apparent hatred for gentiles
Of course, seeing as how much reach antisemitic pro-kremlin accounts have online and off, it didn’t take long for Australian news outlets to pick up the rumour and spread it without verifying. The Benjamin Cohen whose pictures were found and circulated to serve the rumours called the news to retract the accusation and apologise, which they did, but the damage was done, and the torrent of harassment Ben and his family received prompted him to hire a solicitor to sue boikov and susli.
With the possibility of facing actual consequences, boikov and susli (better known by their online handles That Aussie Cossack and SyrianGirl, respectively), have backtracked and claimed they are actually the ones being defamed. It bears noting that boikov’s ass has been parked in the Russian consulate for a while now trying to claim asylum due to the Australian government trying to arrest him for assault, and susli opened a crowdfund for her legal woes 🤡
