um uh potentially hot take but like…the pmmm fandom realizes “homura is not evil” and “the ending of rebellion is tragic” and “madohomu is a toxic relationship as it currently stands” can all be simultaneously true, right?
like homura isn’t evil, she’s a traumatized, isolated child with an unhealthy attachment to madoka. her version of love is ultimately selfish and her decision to change the world to make madoka happy wasn’t kind because it took away madoka’s autonomy and right to choose. but she made that choice because she was literally tortured into insanity by the incubators. like her trauma pre-rebellion would honestly be enough to justify her becoming a witch but she became homulilly because she was tortured on top of her already beginning to question her own sanity with regards to madoka’s existence.
but like…she isn’t evil. it doesn’t matter that she said she was at the end of rebellion bc that was her self-loathing speaking. ultimately she does love madoka and the other magical girls, she just prioritizes madoka over them because madoka will always be who matters most to her - but she knows madoka’s happiness is reliant on the rest of their friends’ happiness so she makes sure they get to be happy too.
anyways all this to say akemi homura is one of the best characters of all time.

There was a bunch of Easter Eggs and references in the last episode of My Adventures with Superman, Kiss Kiss Fall in Portal. I've gone over most of them on this post, but there was just one moment that had so many that I was unsure of that I wanted to do it's own post so if more people get the references that can be discovered.
I'm not sure if these are supposed to be references/easter eggs or just set dressing, but I'm gonna try to figure it out. It very much pushes that button of hey these seem familiar. I mean, this is probably the first time I clearly see what people mean by the word ~ chemistry ~. Qin Jiu is such a chaotic menace, You Huo is such a chaotic menace, they are similar but also different and then put them together and everyone suffers, it's beautiful *wipes tear*. The Ultimate Vriska Poll - Calling for Nominations
My Tumblr Sexywoman poll is going well and I'm having a lot of fun, so I'm thinking of holding a poll to find Tumblr's most iconic Vriska-archetype character. If you don't know what a Vriska archetype is, Tumblr user @doubleca5t coined the term as follows:
Sexypedia didn't have a specific page for the Vriska archetype (the link shown in the screenshot leads to a page titled "Controversial"), but here's what it has to say on the topic:
Now that Tumblr's had time to get a smattering of blorbos that can be considered Vriskas, I want to pit these bad bitches against each other. I want to put them in a box and shake them until they fight to the death. I want the intense campaigning, voter fraud, and sabotage that happened around the original Vriska Serket in the Tumblr Sexywoman poll by Tumblr user @lutzlig. But I want it 32-fold.
The start date for this tournament will tentatively be February 19th. The structure will likely be like the Tumblr Sexywoman poll. Before that, I will be collecting a list of at least 16, preferably 32, Vriska-archetype characters. I will be considering nominations until February 17th, 6 PM PST.
The character you nominate must fulfill at least 4/5 of the requirements of a Vriska. UPDATE: I have decided to expand requirement 4 to just "queer" instead of strictly "attracted to women." Requirements 2, 3, and 5 are mandatory. This is so that male (and nb) characters like Bakugou from BNHA can still participate. As well as characters that don't really get shipped a lot. Like Lilith from The Owl House. (I'm sorry queen I've found someone more controversial) However, I will reject characters if I feel they fall more into other archetypes. Like Komaedas.

Okay, so I've talked about the rabbit getting its head chopped off, and how it's a foreshadowing of Homulilly's guillotine, a subconscious expression of Homura's desire to kill Kyubey, and a clever use of the duck-rabbit illusion, but I missed the obvious reference: the White Rabbit from Alice and Wonderland. You know, the one who wears a waistcoat, carries a pocket watch, and whose catchphrase is "I'm late"?
I mean look at him! Straight out of John Tenniel, even!
This is 100% in keeping with Rebellion's use of classic childhood literature (most notably The Nutcracker and the Mouse King and Little Black Sambo) and to be honest, I am surprised I didn't catch this one earlier.
This shot encapsulates what I love about visual media and Rebellion in particular, namely that all of these different readings co-exist simultaneously and are all equally valid in ways that are difficult if impossible to express in words.
Two additional observations:
1) Inu Curry's rabbit wears a waistcoat with the same diamond pattern associated with Homura.
2) "Late" in English has two meanings: one associated with time, and the other associated with death, as in this exchange from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams:
Slartibartfast: You must come with me or you will be late!
Arthur Dent: Late? What for?
Slartibartfast: What is your name, human?
Arthur Dent: Dent, Arthur Dent.
Slartibartfast: Late as in the late DentArthurDent. It's a sort of threat you see.

what if homura always knew the inevitable conclusion to her efforts. what if she knew madoka would ascend to a deity, and what if her goal was to try to stop that. what if by doing so, she made it all happen anyway.
