imagine you were adopted by a single father, spent your entire life trying to hide the fact that you are so vastly different from your peers and when you finally make friends, not one but two of them go on killing sprees, one of whom makes out w/ the corpses. you have to stop his murderyness and then become his kind-of bestie. you finally get to meet new people, the likes of which you have never seen. the plan is going all wrong but you finally have a minute to breathe. then you immediately get hit in the face with a dildo.

so many people in the homestuck fandom nowadays are younger and weren’t there to experience the comic as it updated, so all they know of homestuck is what it is as a finished product in an archived state. but it hit so much different when you were there
i was exposed to homestuck in 2011/2012 (i used to hate hearing about it) but begrudgingly finally decided to check it out in 2013. the latest update was the very last update of act 6 intermission 5: “THERE IS NO DISC THREE YOU ASSHOLE. THE END. AAAAAAAAAAAAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA” (4/14/2013)
the first upd8 i was there to experience was [S] ACT 6 ACT 6, the HOMOSUCK update (6/12/13) and quite frankly i dont think i couldve asked for a better first update to jump onto homestuck with. start of a new act, and retelling no less, and fucking caliborn the funniest mf in the comic narrating and drawing it
so i was there for……..wow all of this:
the FIRST fun fact is that in the homosuck anthem made by toby fox in [S] ACT 6 ACT 6, the “mmMMmmm” sound effect is sampled from his own voice as karkat in the baby is you
the SECOND fun fact is one that those who were not there for the end of the gigapause and the start of ACT 6 ACT 6 ACT 3 wouldn’t know:
at the end of the 1 year gigapause (10/16/13–10/16/14) mspaintadventures crashed from too many refreshes. the hype for the end of the gigapause was MASSIVE.
remember this page? originally this page only said “WELCOME BACK.” and nothing else and the css style was the mspa default
luckily my blog is a time capsule so you can experience 10/16/14 vicariously
but then
on the same day
the update link was removed from the site.
remember this was the highly anticipated return from the gigapause—the comic’s longest hiatus while it was ongoing
and then it was reuploaded the next day on 10/17/14 with caliborn’s green css style with a newly added word that was basically talking to all of us in real time:
WELCOME BACK.
(AGAIN.)
and that is the cemented, final resting state of the page. and that’s also why the gigapause is one year + one day instead of just one year
and thats the story of the reason why caliborn says (AGAIN.), it’s nothing disruptive or out of place to people who weren’t there since it could easily just be played off as us readers returning to caliborn’s narration in the main acts. but for the people who were there this feels like it was more personally targeted towards them and what they experienced and i’m always reminded of living through all this when i see it lol

Did you mean something else by "rafe part structure"? I couldn't find anything with that name...
i call it the rafe part structure bc its a lens developed by rafe saltman, in which "part 1" of homestuck consists of acts 1-4, part 2 is act 5 and act 5 act 2, part 3 is act 6 acts 1-5, and part 4 is act 6 act 6 and act 7
it pretty cleanly breaks homestuck up into 4 roughly equal sizes which each follow their own ideas - part 1 being a very direct exploration of sburb, part 2 being the build to cascade, part 3 being the alpha sessions, and part 4 being game over and the build up to the retcon, as well as peak caliborn hours
"side a" and "side b" being split on intermission 2 (side A being a1-5 and side B being a6-a7) is also pretty useful, since cascade ending with the gang flying through a fourth wall signifies a pretty big change in how homestuck is told and what homestuck is invested in telling

Pesterquest Rewritten - ACT 1 COMPLETE!

Finally, after three months of work, Act 1 (meaning, the prologue, the 4 beta kid routes, and the first half of the intermission) are all COMPLETE! Check out the Damara sprites made by @damarassanctuary in game -- alongside Spades Slick sprites by Binx and a background or two by @flaringk!!!
ON TOP OF ALL THAT, the bonus route by @hydro-city-zone has EVERY SPRITE COMPLETED, PLUS THE END CARDS... It's all working!!!! It's so GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
God im so fucking unbeLIEVABLY happy to see this all in game. PQR is a dream come true for me -- it's a deeply personal work and I'm so glad it's getting the love I've been seeing.

THOUGHTS:
today started with jade's freshjamz!!!!!!!!! I LOVE!!! i mean dave kind of sucks at making music but jade doesnt! i love how homestuck shows the works of the characters. jades music daves blogs caliborns deviantart whatever. it makes them feel so REAL.
figured out the time differences! if we're staying at johns timezone, dave is 2 hrs ahead and rose is 3 hrs ahead. and jade is 4 hrs ahead!!!! when we were dave pov a convo with jade was at 6:30pm but at jade pov it was 12:30pm so you know.
the exiles are FINALLY MEETING UP!!!! PM!!!!!!!!! i looove pm shes what makes me want to be a mailman. what the hell are the snake worm things in pm's like structure? whats it called? with the terminal. theyre awful silly but theyre kind of freaky and i dont know what they are.
john faq i always read the faqs theyre so fun. john try not to mention your friends by irl name on public forum challenge (even if he assumes everyone else is dead lol). i do NOT understand alchemizing mostly cus i dont get binary. but whatever. maybe i will someday

If you could rewrite homestuck (I mean act 1-7 nothing past that) What would you change?
For the most part Acft 1 up to Cascade has been fine. Everything after that will have major changes.
Like have Beta Kids from the ship and meteor actually speak with each other and visit each other during the travel. They have all the means for communication and I think it's bullshit they never talked to each other.
Rose's alcoholism will be solved without Vriska involved. Terezi gets help from the people around her to stay away from Gamzee. And trying to free Gamzee from Lord English's servitude.
Have the dead trolls be alive again. Be it on the meteor or in the Alpha session. Not as sprites. Just themselves. No teen drama with the Alpha Kids either. Have the dead trolls interact with the Alpha Kids as they help through their session and issues.
NO DANCESTORS. Three of them have larger roles and the rest of the cast is completely useless. There is no need to pad the story out. Let Feferi fill that role for Meenah to take charge and give her development she needs. As well as having the trolls confront and face about their ancestor's past and what they will be for the future.
No Union Jack either.
Make it known that Calliope's toxic positivity harms the cast too, showing that she is just as awful as Caliborn. The cast would have to beat both Cherubs.
Final battles would be
The trolls vs The Condesce
Beta Kids vs Jack Noir
Alpha Kids vs Lord English
Bonus is that Spades Slick is on the Alpha Kids side or fights on his own too against Lord English. To finally wrap up what he had came for from the Intermission. He would then get to be with Ms. Paint as a couple.
They beat the villains, get Earth C, endgame ships would be things like JohnVris, Rosemary, DaveJade, Karezi, DirkJake, EriRoxy, Equius x Jane, and Solradia. They each have fankids (through natural means or ectobiology, so NO DOG PENIS), and they live happily ever after.
And that's just if I keep the trolls in this. Because I think it would be better if Homestuck itself is just focused on the Beta kids fighting against Jack Noir and then Lord English, no trolls involved. If you had to have them, have them only the important ones like Vriska, Kanaya, Terezi, and Karkat help the Beta Kids before they get killed off. Have the troll session, Hivebent, as a separate story that can be explored later. The Acts would be up to 5-6 since that means Dancestors and Alpha Kid session won't be in this. It would be just be about John, Dave, Rose, and Jade. The main four we had been following like it was.
This is how I would rewrite Homestuck.

We pick back up after [S] END OF ACT 6 INTERMISSION 1 (page 4390) with a fucking spectacular music number (Infinity mechanism - Thomas ferkol). I'm such a big fan of the beat that comes in when we get to see Jane looking out her window, you have no idea. Also I didn't cover the intermission because i didn't say much. I appreciate and love the beta kids and trolls but I just have more gears turning where the alpha kids are involved because they're not so clear cut and dry emotional wise as the betas. I'm pretty sure greater analysers than me have said all there needs to be said for the beta kids. All I have to add is this piece of dialog from 4359 that I liked:
KARKAT: ALRIGHT IF YOU'RE REALLY GOING TO GO
KARKAT: JUST
KARKAT: BE CAREFUL
KARKAT: NO MORE POINTLESS BLOODSHED, OK? THAT'S AN ORDER!

I really love how clingy Karkat but also accepting of his friends decisions goes. It's one of his great points as a knight of blood, but it also leads to some pretty funny turnabouts as he contradicts himself and fights himself on it.

4405 Well dead kids it is. These scenes.. when i read these scenes.. with such shitty sketch lines.. in my mind I hear Buy Somethin Will Ya? from the Earthbound OST. Or Hi Hi Hi (Theme of Saturn Valley).
You should be pleased to know those nuts were super deadly! Though to be fair he doesn't know if he died from the poison, or just choked on a bunch of barely chewed peanut bits. You know what else is super deadly, you say? Knives. Sharp deadly knives you stick in people's soft torsos to make them bleed until they die.
He doesn't have anything to say to that.
Dude i love this guy like deadass him and his whimsical hats and umbrellas and whatnot. I think he's my fav besides DD.

4419 I really like parallels in homestuck. They make the world go round, you could say, because you read things and dont feel as lost because in a way it's strikingly familiar! Which is what happens here.

Nobody takes into account how many batshit things Jane sees and she hits them all with the ,':| ....
You guess you should feel grateful toward him for saving your life, but you know he's just as likely to rescue you from an explosion as he is to randomly teleport you across town, forcing you to call your dad and ask for a ride home, while you spend all day standing in some random field in the pouring rain while you wait hours for your dad to come and pick you up after he gets lost because he plugged the wrong place into google maps.
I really like the small bits of background we get about Jane too. Like this! Its such a nice scene. But it seems.. that uh oh! Guardian jumpscare.
He tells you to get inside this instant.
Goddamn. Now where have i seen this before.. 4430 referencing 212.
Except in this case, it's no case of magical happenstance gone awry with a server player losing internet, but a dad being.. a *tad* more serious than given with how you're so totally grounded. No wonder Jane is so stubborn!
As long as you just got done paying the piper, you might as well get busy eating all this goddamn crow. Oh so much of the stuff has gathered on your plate.
Eating the crow: to admit that one was wrong or accept that one has been defeated.
paying the piper: bear the consequences of an action or activity that one has enjoyed.
These sayings are sooo cool too. Like I've never heard anyone use them but they're really neat!

Also, it was quite good and eventually it would have sucked me into finishing it with or without the group. I think by Act 5 Act 2 or so, personally.
