Shima Enaga, The Snow Fairy of Hokkaidō
The long-tailed bushtit can be found all over Europe and the Palearctic. However, one subspecies, called the shima enaga, lives exclusively in Hokkaidō, Japan's northernmost and second-largest island. It is the pure-white faces of the adult members of this Japanese subspecies that makes them look like very soft, very cute, miniature snowballs and has earned it the affectionate nickname "snow fairy." Also known as the silver-throated dasher, the shima enaga is the second smallest bird in all of Japan. They are a tiny bird, at 12-16cm in length, including their tail at 7-9cm. You will often hear them long before you see them, as they have a constant and high-pitched call. Outside of the breeding season, they live in flocks of 10-20 birds, comprised of both parents and offspring.

Mount Yōtei is an active stratovolcano located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Hokkaidō, Japan. It is also called Yezo Fuji or Ezo Fuji, "Ezo" being an old name for the island of Hokkaido, because it resembles Mount Fuji. The mountain is also known as Makkari Nupuri and Mount Shiribeshi. Wikipedia

Thank you for leaving so many comments on yesterday’s post.
Although the caretakers still don't really feel good
After reading comments from all over the world,
We have felt all of the love that Ponsuke really received once again.😌
Ponsuke, who was particularly fierce about fish🐟
Ponsuke, who was the number one most viewed by customers, was always in position, sleeping😴
Ponsuke, who loved to play with the hose💎️
Maybe because he always had the personality of a pampered child, In his last moments when everyone came to see him, the whole crew all gathered to wait for him.
From now on Ponsuke lives on in us.
Although sad feelings still remain, right now the seals have been gushing affection more than ever, and from now on we will do our best so that you all may keep supporting us!
Okhotsk Tokkari Center continually thanks you 🦭

5/1/22.
Mura are a Japanese band that played in Sapporo for years. According to the Bandcamp page, this isolated the band from other sounds found in Japan during the early 2000s.
To me, this sounds like a great cross between Tenniscoats, yumbo, and Aunt Sally. The Bandcamp page mentions a cross between the guitar sounds of Tom Verlaine and Jad Fair.
An'archives, a French label known for releasing music from Japan, is releasing this.

Shirogane Blue Pond, Hokkaidō, Japan
Hokkaidō is the second largest island of Japan. Situated in the far north, it's a vast and relatively untouched wilderness approximately 40 times bigger than Tokyo but with only a third of the population. If you're planning to visit this enchanting region, then be sure to check out the Blue Pond (Aoi-ike), named so because of the natural minerals that turn the water into a beautiful blue lagoon. You can find it on the outskirts of Shirogane Onsen, a hot spring town in Kamikawa District.

1669-Shakushain's revolt (シャクシャインの戦い)
Tumblr media
The revolt of Shakushain (シャクシャインの戦い, Shakushain no tatakai) was an Ainu rebellion against Japanese authority on Hokkaidō between 1669 and 1672. It was led by Ainu chieftain Shakushain against the Matsumae clan, who represented Japanese trading and governmental interests in the area of Hokkaidō, then controlled by the Japanese (Yamato people).
Tumblr media
The war began as a fight for resources between Shakushain's people and a rival Ainu clan in the Shibuchari River (Shizunai River) basin of what is now Shinhidaka, Hokkaidō. The war developed into a last try by the Ainu to keep their political independence and regain control over the terms of their trade relations with the Yamato people.
Tumblr media
At the end of 1669, Shakushain's forces surrendered to the Matsumae. The two sides exchanged gifts and negotiated a peace settlement; however, while Ainu generals celebrated with "liberal helpings of saké",[attribution needed][citation needed] they were assassinated by Matsumae warriors. Shakushain was among those killed that day.
