Tumblr media
you try again to hit the falsetto taehyun’s been trying to get out of you. yet again, your voice breaks right before you hit the right note. you rip the headphones off and groan in frustration.
you've been trying to hit this note for weeks. the one time you managed to hit it, you weren't even recording. you'd come into the studio early to practice, in hopes you'd be able to impress your coach by hitting the note first try when he gets here. he always made you feel special when you managed to hit a difficult note. hugs, kisses on the cheek, anything to be mildly touchy.
you almost thought he might have a crush on you. but why would your vocal coach like you as anything more than his student or his friend? you had started to like taehyun because of his touchy-ness but you would never tell him. there’s no way he would see you the same way.
he arrives at the studio to see you sitting on the floor beyond frustrated with yourself. you bang your head against the sound proofed wall behind you, trying to figure out what you’re doing wrong. he giggles to himself before opening the door to the recording room.
“you’re belting. you’re supposed to just let it flow, baby,” taehyun says as he opens the door to the recording room where you currently reside. you sigh and throw your lyric sheets in his general direction. “i don’t know how to not belt it,” you groan and shove your face in your hands.
he gets behind you as best he can and hooks his arms under your armpits, lifting you up off the floor. “a falsetto is a head voice tone and you, doll, are using your chest voice. you just gotta shift where you’re singing from and you’ll hit it,” he puts the headphones back on your head, readjusting the mic to your level. he demonstrates the note with his own head voice, impressing you in the process. the fact that your male vocal coach can hit female falsettos never fails to amaze you.
he walks back out of the recording room, settling into his chair in front of the mixing board. “i don’t think i’m physically capable of doing that,” you say into the mic, your voice booming into the other room. he laughs before pressing the intercom button and saying, “babe, i know you’re capable. you’re just pushing yourself too hard.” you whine, not wanting to keep trying.
“alright, come on, head voice,” he reminds you, “i know you’ve got that note somewhere in that beautiful voice of yours.” you do a couple vocal warm ups to prepare to try and get yourself into your head voice. he cues the backtrack and you wait a moment for your cue to sing. you sing the first couple of verses with no mistakes. a small musical bridge hits and you prepare yourself to sing your high note. but, much to your dismay, your voice cracks again, ruining this part of the recording.
you throw the headphones off and yell, which takes over the other room’s sounds. you throw your pages around again, losing your cool. “y/n, come out here please,” taehyun says over the intercom. you trudge out of the studio and out to face your vocal coach. “you’re still belting,” you open your mouth to retort with some smartass comment but he pulls you onto his lap, wrapping arm around your waist to caress your back.
“if you keep forcing the note, you’re going to ruin your vocal chords. we don’t want that right before your debut, do we, doll?” he sounds so condescending that it sends chills down your spine. he wraps both arms around you, pulling you down to rest your full body weight on his hardened member. you look at him, your mouth slightly agape and your eyes wide.
“taehyun what are you-” he shakes his head, shushing you. he grips your hips with his hands, rocking you back and forth in his lap. your hands find purchase on his shoulders to keep yourself grounded. his hands fall away and your hips continue on their own. taehyun holds your jaw with one of his hands, forcing you to look at him. a small groan falls from your lips at the contact.
“do you want some… extra voice training?” he asks. you know what he really means and your mind is so foggy that all you can do is not and make a small noise of agreement. “i need words, baby,” he says, tracing your throat and jawline with his pointer finger. he shifts you over to his thigh before flexing it, sending a spike of pleasure through you. “yes! yes please,” you cry out.
he breathes out a few curses before connecting your lips. his lips are plump and soft. he licks over your bottom lip, relishing in the taste of your cherry chapstick. you catch the tip of his tongue between your lips, giving it a harsh suck before welcoming it into your mouth fully.
his hand travels down to the small of your back to encourage you to rock your hips on his thigh. you let out a shaky breath as taehyun helps you set a steady pace. you hold his face in your hands as he kisses down your neck, licking over the spots where dark marks are sure to appear. “that’s it, baby. use me to get off,” he says, his voice low and raspy. his words send a new jolt of pleasure through you, your hips picking up their pace.
“that’s a good girl. good fucking girl,” his groans against your ear. your hands move from his face to the back of his neck, tugging on his hair. “go on, doll, cum for me.” your hips stutter as your high crashes over you. taehyun talks you through it, whispering small praises about how good you are for him.
“i would love to taste you, but i think i might explode if i’m not inside you in the next 30 seconds.” that’s the only warning he gives you before getting you off his lap and bent over his mixing desk. he reaches over to turn off the mixer, not wanting your bodyweight to accidentally mess with something. he tugs your pants down to your ankles, not even bothering to take them off you fully.
his finger traces the wet patch on your panties before tugging your panties off too. he grabs your hair, tugging your head back before saying; “i’m going to fuck you until you can hit the fucking high note.” your eyes roll into the back of your head as he shoves into you. he sheathes himself fully, but doesn’t move. you wiggle around, trying to get something out of him.
“sing the note,” he emphasizes his words with a thrust accompanying each word. you clear your throat, preparing your voice box to try and hit the note he wants. when your voice cracks again, he lets out a sinister laugh. “aww, you stupid slut. guess you don’t get to cum,” he tugs your hair again before setting a borderline abusive pace. the sounds of skin slapping and your high pitched moans fill the room.
“oh so you can moan at the right pitch but you can’t fucking sing at the right pitch? absolutely pathetic,” his words have an extremely mean tone and it makes you clench around him. he makes a ‘tsk’ sound when you clench. he jerks your head back again, leaning down to kiss you. your ass jiggles when he thrusts harder into you. you groan against his mouth, your high creeping up on you.
“gonna-mmf cum,” you manage to say. he shakes his head, pulling away from your lips. “ah, ah, ah, i don’t think so,” he stops all his movements, causing your high to begin to fall away. you make a crying sound, whining at him denying you your second orgasm.
“hit. the. fucking. note,” he growls. you look into his eyes; his pupils are blown and his hair is sticking to his sweaty forehead. he has his bottom lip caught between his teeth, admiring your half naked body underneath him. you open your mouth to sing and you finally get the note.
"i'm so fucking proud of you, my love," his hips pick up their aggressive page again. "i knew you could do it." you squeal, kicking your feet at your sensitivity. you know your high is gonna hit sooner rather than later. you're barely gasping out breaths as he abuses your hole with his throbbing cock.
you can tell his own orgasm is building at the way his grunts have become louder. "where do you want it, baby?" he asks, basically edging himself to wait for your answer. "i-inside p-please taehyun," you mutter, your orgasm crashing into you like a tsunami.
he hits you with one last thrust before filling you up to the brim with his seed. he admires the way your wet, hot sex keeps him swallowed in, sucking him dry. you finally collapse on the mixing board, your arms too worn out to keep holding your torso up.
"hey, let's get you home," taehyun says while pulling your pants and underwear back up your legs. "but don't i have to hit the note on recording?" you ask, confused while he helps you stumble to the door.
"you already did. i was recording the whole time."

whats da band lore how did they do dat
okay if i’m going to answer this question it’s gonna be LONG (also cannon does not apply here yall im making this shit UP)
noya and yn are childhood friends who kinda discovered punk music together at a very young age
like they were seven listening to agent orange together
yn liked how angry and passionate it is and noya liked how high energy and badass it is
yn’s favorite bands/biggest influences were skinned teen, gitogito hustler, and melt-banana
noya’s were sicilian blood, social distortion, and minor threat
yn was obsessed with learning guitar. she would take books out from the library and imagine she was playing on a fake one & would ‘practice’ and memorize as much of the technical terms as she could & this was how she learned to read sheet music
noya’s grandfather got him a guitar as gift one day and he let yn actually practice on it in exchange for teaching her what she knew
so they were self taught guitar players together 🥹
and they always knew they wanted to start a band but they were both guitar players and two guitar players does not a band make
yn was willing to learn bass too but even if she did they would still need a drummer
enter: tanaka
(influences: fugazi. that’s it. that man loves fugazi)
they met in middle school and the day they met tanaka it was like they were life long friends
like that bond was instant
and one day they were hanging out at noya’s house and tanaka saw his guitar was he was like “oh you play”
“yeah we both play guitar we wanna start a band but we can’t find anyone who can drum”
“oh i can drum. does that help?”
“???? yes???”
and so tanaka became the drummer and that’s when they started having practices
at first they were so bad
like
so so bad
yn tried to play bass but was not the best at it and yn and noya kept arguing over who did vocals bc neither one of them wanted to do it
until one day yn said “you know if you’re the frontman and the vocalist you’ll get the most attention from girls” and that did it for him
only problem was tanaka wanted to be a vocalist after that too
they mostly just played covers at first but noya was writing his own songs too
he’d mostly write lyrics and yn would mostly write music but most of the time neither were very good until tanaka came in and edited what they were working on
their sound was extremely sloppy and unrefined but by the time they entered high school their technical skills had improved a lot
except for yn’s bass playing. she hated it and practiced as little as she could
so one day during their first year of high school the band made a ton of posters asking bass players to come try out
enter: yachi
(now yachi did NOT like punk music. her influences were more like: the strokes, pixies, elliot smith)
yachi plays A LOT of instruments
clarinet? she’s a pro. cello? of course. girl can even play the harp.
she’s an extremely technically gifted bass player
post-high school yachi has really come into herself and gained a ton of confidence but high school yachi was still timid as hell
she saw the flyer and though it would be a lot of fun to put her skills to use in a creative way
but then she showed up to their after school practice spot, flyer in hand and shaking like a leaf
two scary looking dudes and perhaps even a scarier looking girl? yeah no. she’s out
but she couldn’t get away. yn was so excited at not just the prospect of having a bass player finally join them but also another girl? she dragged yachi back there lmao
and even though yachi was so visibly anxious that all sort of melted away when she started playing and she became the coolest most confident person alive
they were actually sort of blown away the first time they heard her play. like the band was like !!! you might be too good for us to tell you the truth
yn was on her hands and knees begging her to join
so she did! and was very happy to feel so wanted and included
and then with the addition of yachi that’s when they really started to get good
while noya and yn were self taught and though still pretty knowledgeable, yachi had a lot of technical knowledge that really helped them grow
and they started practicing more and more
like too much maybe
their grades suffered
but they really improved a lot and halfway through their second year, they played their first show
it was a disaster
so extremely chaotic
they had nothing set up right and they kept having to stop their set to fix shit and they got heckled and yn threatened to skin the person and from there they were politely asked to stop the set early
it was bad
they realized they needed more help
enter: kiyoko
(she doesn’t play any instruments but her favorite musicians/bands are mazzy star, fiona apple, and the cardigans)
they had met kiyoko before
they were all hanging out together when tanaka tried to talk to her and yn got so embarrassed to be seen with him she hit the back of his head and apologized on his behalf
kiyoko kinda got attached to yn from there; she didn’t have a lot of super close friends & she appreciated her consideration of her feelings
and they started to grow closer and yn, yachi, and kiyoko started to hang out a lot more
it was really good for all of them
yn didn’t have a lot of friends and she was really grateful to be with people who didn’t judge her for her more alternative persona
yachi kept getting more and more confident and felt like she was discovering herself
kiyoko was always very timid and was not the best at initiating conversations or being part of a group but she felt no pressure hanging out with yn and yachi and talking to them was so easy for her
so they got really close
so naturally after the disaster performance yn and yachi were complaining to kiyoko
who said without really thinking much of it “i can help you guys out”
so she did
it was super overwhelming at first because there’s a lot of things to keep track of and a lot of technical things to learn
but kiyoko really loved helping them out
and the more she learned the more she started to offer input or take initiative
tanaka and noya of course loved this
their natural instinct was to act like freaks around her but yn kept that in check
with a lot of threats
and occasionally following through on the threats
and kiyoko started to feel like a member of their band
and they always practiced with her and listened to her critiques and followed her advice
her input and guidance are extremely valuable and half of the reason they’re still a band
tanaka was so in love with her from the start and the more dedicated she became to the band the worse it got
he was so in love with her he didn’t even notice that she eventually started to show signs that she might feel the same way
it only took 6 months for them to start dating and the only person who was surprised was tanaka
it took a LONG time for them to record their first album
it was a mess
a lot of arguing
a lot of clashing opinions
but after writing and rewriting and recording and rerecording
they finally put together a full length album
12 songs, 39 minutes
it’s a little rough and sloppy but hey
that’s punk
and they were all really proud of it
they’ve since put out one ep with 6 shorter tracks
they’re working on their second one now but hey. albums are a lot of effort to make
but tanaka keeps saying it’s going to be the greatest album of all time (it won’t be)
and that’s the freaking band lore
if you made it to the end. you’re a real one

"Loser Baby" frame analysis (3/3)
(With lyrics)
Red = Husk Pink = Angel Dust Purple = Both Normal = My commentary
[ANGEL DUST] You're a loser, baby
Tumblr media
Angel is deflecting a bit here, testing the waters. He's oddly shy, maybe exposed. Husk's wing is somewhat extended behind him, the umbrella over Angel. Almost as if shielding Angel from more than the fictional rain. I know damn well we all know what sharing an umbrella means in most anime! And Angel's hand behind his head and lowered brows shows a bit of vulnerability with Husk. A shyness to show himself to the other.
[HUSK] A loser, but just maybe if we
Tumblr media
(Scene is a little later than the line) Husk answers with no malice or offence. In fact, his voice is much softer here, comforting Angel.
[ANGEL DUST & HUSK] Eat shit together, things will end up differently
Tumblr media
Now Angel holds out a hand to Husk like he did at the beginning of the song when they first sat side by side. And Husk Happily takes it.
[HUSK] It's time to lose your self-loathin'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Angel joins in vocals, happily embracing being a loser and dancing with no cares in the world. He's shed all his sadness and shame from before. And all the while, Husk sings to Angel, taking more pleasure in Angel being at ease. Enjoying that Angel is shedding all the negativity he had when he first fled the hotel. Angel isn't just the subject, but the star of the song.
Excuse yourself, let hope in, baby
Tumblr media
He gives Angel all the room to bask in this revelation, and "let hope in". This could very well mean Husk off all people believes Angel will either improve, or Lucifer willing, make it out of Hell. He holds his hand out to Angel, and Angel takes it. As if making a deal to have a better mindset and accept the reality: 'The situation sucks, but now that we've addressed it, we can find a way for us (Angel) to find a way out.'
Play your card, be who you are
Tumblr media
Another little moment, when Husk says "Baby", he pulls Angel close for a moment before continuing the dance. Angel seems to notice this. His face is very relaxed and he continues vocalizing. He doesn't want to leave this moment. He wants to keep it going.
Husk is encouraging Angel to embrace all of himself, while also pulling him closer to Husk, but only after he takes his hand again. Husk needs Angel to make the decision to take his hand. He wont force him. Be it friendship or a budding romance, Husk is there for Angel and all his quirks and kinks.
[ANGEL DUST & HUSK] A loser,
Tumblr media
Angel is now fully supported by Husk, but our bartender doesn't mind a bit, a wing folded under Angel, a show of Husk willing to support him (bird wings be fragile, I'd imagine Husk could have discomfort with weight on them.) And Angel sees Husk. Husk is relaxed, eyes closed, supporting Angel's weight and Angel is relaxed and at ease, seeing Husk as a new friend.
just like--
Tumblr media
Angel allows his eyes to shut, brows lowered, no wrinkles under his eyes or brow, voice soft in harmony with Husk. Both are relaxed, smiling. They are not alone.
Tumblr media
And they open thier eyes. Voices soft and almost as if sharing a secret. Thier smiles are still in place, both at ease.
No masks.
*
Welp! I am going to be listening to this song on loop. 10 fucking years since the comic snippets came out, holy shit!
I'm so happy for Viv and the team and the fandom!
Thanks y'all!

Befallen: Chapter 3
Pairing: Idol!Jungkook x Music Producer!Reader
Genre: Fluff
Word Count: 2.5K
Warnings: none, really.
A/N: Thank you guys so much for your patience with me. I'm so happy to finally getting this out after having to completely rewrite this chapter from scratch. Bear with me as I try to get these chapters out as soon as I can. Thank you!
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Aesthete: a person who has or affects to have a special appreciation of art and beauty.
I tap my pen against the wooden desk as I focus on the sheets in front of me. The words written on the page are a little sloppy, their connotation that of a newcomer to lyricism. But, the meaning in them shows through no matter the novice technique in which their written. I cross out a line and rewrite the words, not changing the meaning behind them but allowing the line to blend harmoniously with the rest of the verse.
Jimin stopped by the studio first thing before practice, the notebook sitting on the floor from where he slid it under the door before rushing to meet the other members. I smiled when I saw it. I should've known better than to expect anything other than the fact that he would stay up writing. After our conversation yesterday, he seemed too inspired to do anything but that.
I will admit, although the wording isn't as eloquent as an experienced lyricist, Jimin's handwriting is that of a scholar. Next to his, my hangul looks like chicken scratch, something a kindergartner would write. Then again, I am newer to writing in the language, still stumbling when I even speak it. But, I have improved drastically in the half year past. His writing is more like the Korean version of cursive, his hands used to the language from years of experience as his letters blend together beautifully. While I am mainly writing the English version, as it's my first language, he decided that he wanted to take the lead with the Korean version. When he proposed the idea, I visibly sighed in relief. Usually when writing for the other artists in the company, some of the other producers tend to take the lead on the lyrics since I am a novice when it comes to the Korean language, but versed enough to help Jimin with editing his.
My heart breaks a little at the words on the page. His fear of losing those close to him shows through as I read them. His sad, almost desperate, connotation bleed through the pages even through his crossed lines as he rewrote the lyrics over and over. I can't wait to show him what I've done with it, the song already playing through my head in a constant loop. I can already imagine how great it will sound with his soft and breathy vocals.
A knock on the door brings my out of my little bubble. I turn toward the entrance of my studio, curious to see who could be here. Jimin's practice isn't set to be finished for another hour or so.
But, nevertheless, it is still him that stands in the doorway.
"What are you doing here so early?" I ask, curious as to how he is here at the moment. He's never been known to cut practice of any kind, if anything he stays later working past when everyone else leaves.
"Let's just say.... there was some tension. So, Joon-hyung decided to end it early today." He says with a slight smirk on his face. I don't know how, but for some reason I feel as if I'm the reason for the so-called tension that he speaks of.
"Do I even want to know?" I cross my arms and lean back in my chair as I question him.
"Probably not." He shrugs his shoulders and walks further into the room, coming to stand beside me and look at the notebook sitting on the desk behind me.
"Alright then, I'm not even gonna ask." I swivel my chair around to face the desk once again, watching Jimin's face as he reads the words on the page, examining my rewrites with the utmost focus and attention.
"Wow... I thought my lyrics were good. But.... damn." He turns his head to meet my eyes. "You've really got some talent, Y/N."
My cheeks flush at the compliment, not used to being recognized for it. I avoid his eyes as I look back toward the notebook.
"It's nothing, I just reported it a little bit to better match the rhythm of the song. This way, the meter of the stanza will match the beat a lot better. But, Jimin, you did amazing. What you wrote here... just..." I look at the man standing beside me. "Wow."
He flushes at my words, his hand coming to rub the nape of his neck as he straightens his spine. "I just felt kind of inspired, I guess."
He smiles shyly at me as I grin at him. I fake punch him lightly in the shoulder, lightening the mood. "Hey, give yourself some credit. You did good. Own it."
He laughs lightly, loosening up a bit. "Yeah, yeah. Okay."
"No, say it!" I persist. "Say 'I did an awesome job at writing these lyrics and I am oh so very talented'."
He scrunches his face in a mic of amusement and awkwardness as he tries to laugh off my words.
"Whatever. So can we go to the recording booth? Try this out?" He asks, waving me off.
I let it go, deciding that I've proven my point enough to not push it any further. "Yeah, let me just put the track on the flash drive real quick and we can head over."
While working on his lyrics, I was able to finish the backing track. His words inspired me and helped me find the finishing touches I really needed. All that's left is to finish writing the lyrics, record it, and mix it all together.
I click my mouse as I drag the file over to the drive, preparing to transport it to the recording booth that a lot of the other producers and I share. Although I have my own studio and microphone for recording backing vocals, for the artists we like to have the best recording set up. I pull the drive from my computer and grab the notebook, standing from my chair as I turn toward Jimin.
"You ready?" I ask, knowing that his nerves are high at the moment, the anxiety of recording the raw emotion in which these lyrics are written showing on his face.
"As ready as I'll ever be."
I wrap my arm around his as we march out of my studio and down the hall.
Tumblr media
"Watch me go, soak me all night long, away... So the morning gets drunk and never comes."
Jimin's soft vocals ring throughout the studio as I stare at him in awe. Seeing the words on paper is nothing compared to hearing them in such a mellifluous way. He peels off the headset and places it around his neck, a smile shining on his face as his eyes sparkle.
"How was that?" He asks me through the microphone. I press the button on the desk so he can hear my response in the speakers throughout the inside of the recording booth.
"Jiminie, that was amazing! First take, wow. Let's keep going and finish up the rest of the pre-chorus and then we'll take a break." My cheeks hurt from how big I've been smiling for the past hour. After doing some minor rewrites after we arrived and settling on exactly how we wanted to vocal lines to sound, we finally started recording. I rewind the track a few seconds, Jimin's previously recorded vocals playing through as he secures his headset back on and closes his eyes in concentration.
"I fade away in the loud music, I'm getting used to the cliché story like a drama. I'm getting used to it. Have I come too far to find the me you used to know? Yeah I know, you know, I know..."
Jimin never ceases to amaze me. Although he has a beautiful deep chest voice, he prefers to sing in the higher tones. That fact fits beautifully with this song. But, maybe one day I can convince him to showcase more of his lower vocals. The proud smile I wear never leaves as he looks at me with excitement, his eyes forming crescents so slivered I wonder how he even sees what's in front of him.
He sets his headset on the small table next to the microphone, his half empty water bottle sitting next to it. I look back toward the screen to start the playback of what all we've recorded thus far as I hear the door to the recording booth open and shut softly, near-silent but quick footsteps near me as Jimin rushes to see the screen.
We haven't yet added the whispers in the beginning, so the track still feels a little empty as it starts. But as soon as the vocals come in, it feels complete. A weight lifts off my shoulders at the sound, a relieved sigh leaving me as my chest feels light. I close my eyes as I smile, letting out a breathy laugh.
"She's saying 'Baby, don't think about it. There's not a bad thing here tonight. Baby, it's fine if you have to leave, but stay with me just for today.'"
We listen for the next minute or so and I pause it right before the chorus comes in.
"Oh my God! Jimin!" I jump up and throw my arms dramatically around him, causing him to almost loose balance and brace a hand against the desk to keep standing. He laughs as he regains his balance and wraps his arms around my waist. We stay like that for a little while, rocking slightly back in forth as we bask in the feeling of accomplishment.
I lean slightly and place my hands on his reddened cheeks, forcing him to make eye contact with me.
"I'm so proud of you! That sounds amazing!" Jimin looks down bashfully at my words, but the smile grows on his face, his teeth nibbling on his bottom lip.
"Thanks... You did most of the work, though."
I smile fondly at my best friend.
"Jimin, don't discredit yourself. I just helped you bring your vision to life, and you're doing the same for me." He looks back up and meets my eyes once again. "I'm so glad that I shared this with you. This is coming out better than I could've imagined."
We stay like that for a few moments more before a knock breaks the moment. We look at the doorway simultaneously.
"Am I interrupting something?" The silky smooth voice carries throughout the room, his words making my cheeks flush. His strong brows are pushed together into an expression I can't really put my finger on. Confusion, disgust, anger... jealousy? No, it can't be.
Nonetheless, Jimin lets go of his hold on me at the presence of his bandmate, taking a step back to put some space between us.
"We just finished up recording a good chunk of the song." Jimin explains. "I'm actually really proud of it."
Jungkook's face softens as his brows shoot up, disappearing under the black bucket hat on his head, the rings on the brim clinking together as he tilts his head and leans against the doorway.
"Really? I didn't even know you were working on something new." His eyes dart over to me momentarily before moving back to Jimin. "What is it?"
I clear my throat before I speak up for him. "That song that I was working on when you came into my studio yesterday. I showed it to Jimin and he marked his claim on it the second it started playing." I laugh lightly as I avert my eyes over to my best friend, pride shining all throughout my features. "He wrote lyrics for it overnight, and we've been putting it together since your practice ended."
Jungkook smiles wide as he walks over to Jimin, placing a hand on his shoulder. "That's amazing, hyung! I can't wait to hear it."
"Thanks, Kook. I can't wait either." His eye crescents come back as he smiles mischievously. "But, you gotta wait until it's done. No spoilers!"
The bunny man pouts at his elder. "That's mean. But, fine. I was coming in here to record some stuff I'm working on, but I'll wait until you guys finish up. I didn't know that anyone was in here today." He pulls out a flashdrive from his pocket, holding it up to prove his intentions.
"That's fine. We were just finishing up anyway. I just gotta make sure everything saves over then we can get out of your hair." I turn back toward the computer, leaning over the desk to move everything back over to my portable drive. A few seconds later and I unplug it, turning back toward the two men.
They seem to be having a secret conversation, whispering over in the corner of the room, too quiet for me to hear. Jungkook makes eye contact with me and I crease my brows in confusion. His eyes widen and he clears his throat, cutting off whatever Jimin was saying.
"Where are you guys off to?" He asks, turning his gaze back toward Jimin.
"The dance studio. Wanna blow off some steam before we go and get ready for recording later."
Jimin walks back over to me, placing his elbow on my shoulder and showcasing the slight height difference. Honestly, this man is just so proud that he's 3 inches taller than me and uses every opportunity to show it off. Then again, being surrounded by giants all day probably doesn't help his height complex.
"Oh, you dance?" Jungkook directs the question back at me.
"Yeah... I used to study contemporary back in the States. Sometimes it nice to just... let go. You know?" I shuffle uncomfortably at the admission. He seems perplexed as he takes in the information, seemingly hooked on every new detail he can learn about me.
"Anyway," I silently thank Jimin for breaking the tension "we are heading out. Good luck on whatever you're working on, Kookie!"
He all but pushes me out of the room, hands pressing against my shoulders in a rush to leave to recording studio. As we exit the room, I glance back over my shoulder, only to find a doe eyed Jungkook staring. We make eye contact one final time before we turn to go down the corridor, a red flush creeping on his cheeks.
Jimin moves so that he's no longer pushing, but walking alongside me. I glance over at him only to see him wearing a knowing smile as he glances back. Thankfully, he doesn't say anything.
As we turn into the next hallway, I hear the soft sound of a symphony staring to ring from the room we just left. And for once, I let myself smile about the boy with the bunny teeth responsible for it.

“even if you’re on your hardest days, the reason I came into your life is to make you feel better and protect you.”
🤍🤍🤍🤍
you couldn’t comprehend everything that was going on around you, it’s like something was going too fast. you couldn’t catch the detail you were supposed to understood and the frustrating was pinning you down too much till it was getting harder to breathe.
Woozi recorded a new song. It was great. But then it wasn’t really well went it came to deciding who gets to sing which part. He worked so hard to composed a song, you didn’t have the gut to decline his suggestions. Either a yes or just a nod, you had to push yourself.
An upbeat song. With lots of raps. And that made you spaced out.
“I feel like you should try something new. There’s a part I think will fit your voice. What do you think y/n?” You stared at the lyrics sheet. It was filled with scribbles of rearranging, changing and writings by Woozi and maybe some other members too. Your mind was thinking twice, wondering if you should really follow his orders. Because…
You never say no to Woozi when it comes to producing songs. He stayed up endless nights trying to start a song from scratch with or without Bumzu. If you said no then it surely would give him a negative reaction. You suck in a breath. “I think it’s nice, but you know it’s not what I usually get in a song right?”
He nodded. “I think you’ll be alright. I want to give you all fair lines and everyone has some rap part.”
The last time you did something that wasn’t familiar in the vocal team activity was a b-side track years ago. You didn’t sound pretty well in rapping either. It was a relief it wasn’t a song to perform often.
-
It ended you alone in the vocal room.
Repeating the same lyrics, over and over but it always fails. If it was the hip hop team, this would’ve been their easiest job in 3 minutes. You thought, gripping the water bottle in your hand, only the sound of plastic crinkling could be heard in the cramped room. You were wondering if you could actually burst a tear with all the frustration that’s bubbling in you.
Until a knock on the door that scared you as it opens. Revealing Mingyu in a sweatshirt with a soft smile on his face. His familiar scent of strong cologne filled in and he was hugging you.
He came by after he found out you had to do something you’re not familiar with. Indeed he thought that line was hard as well, but now he only could think of guiding you to get through it. “It was really hard huh? It’ll be alright. I’m here.” He kissed the top of your forehead and you let your frustrations out with tears.
-
He put on a hyped attitude every single day just to get you to like rapping. Either jumping like a 5 year old or cracking up a joke to get your mood started as a laughter.
He played the beats on his phone and helped you with starting it slow and it went a little faster resulting you in some twisted words with a annoyed sighed.
“It’s okay. It went well. I like that.” Gyu complimented, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear so it wasn’t a disturbance to your view.
But it wasn’t a one day practiced. He helped you every single day when you needed and he was glad to help you. And at night, he made sure to compliment how good you were each day. Tight in his arms and hear him saying how you improved a lot and how much he loves you.
“I think you can quit the vocal team now.” He joked, playing with your hair as you lay in bed with him. A chuckle left your lips. “but I’m still learning baby.”
Mingyu hummed. “ but you are really good now. I don’t think you need my help anymore.”
You tilted your head up to see his face and Mingyu looks at you as well. He saw your hardships throughout everything you’ve been through. And he was actually there. The person to help you.
“I love you.”
“I love you too baby.”
-
On recording day, you felt anxious. Even though you had to ask Woozi for a take 5, it still went alright. Woozi looked satisfied and a smile planted on his face. “You did pretty well. Nice one y/n.” Woozi told you.
You muttered a thank you before exiting, that anxious feeling left your body as soon as you got out. Mingyu and other members were on the sofa. “You did great.” He said and you just smiled.
.

i couldn’t express my feelings by how much thankful I am to have millions of people supporting me and loving me. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for my loved ones. Throughout this moment, I had learnt a lot. I feel glad that I could be someone to lean on when they think they have no one. There’s time where things gets hard for me but then I thought about the reason how I stood up until today. I’m grateful how I could receive this kind of love. Please support on our comebacks in the future. Our members worked hard and y/n went through some hardships during it. I remember seeing her almost gave up and it really did have her a lot of pressure. With now she’s back, I hope our team will stay together until the end ^^ for y/n, I’m proud of you for getting this far with me and seventeen. Since trainee days I know how hard it was for you. But now you’re back, let’s love each other sincerely like we always did and never hide our difficulties from each other. Everyone please stay healthy and be sure to eat a lot! Goodnight! 🤍
sincerely yours, Mingyu.

this makes me so much more proud of louis than i already was (which is like. the proudest i have been ever of anyone) because yeah i do love his voice on mitam but he was clearly straining to reach this note on eotd and you can hear it. the whine/moan at the end is hot to me but if they had toured this album and he had tried to hit this note it would’ve hurt him. like, comparatively, the high notes in btm are very similar but sound worlds healthier and more supported.
i feel like that just goes to show how hard he’s worked to improve and utilize the unique aspects of his voice in a healthy way that’ll be better for his voice in the long term. and then if you compare that to H’s performances of toxic or hopelessly devoted to you - who has (imo) relied on his misplaced confidence in his abilities and lack of regard for the health of his voice instead of focusing on longevity. his vocal chords sounded like they were toast to me back in 2015 if he didn’t start caring and i think we’re hearing the ramifications of that now
I agree with you to some extent, and I’ll add a few thoughts, if you don’t mind. Here’s the audio.
The thing about laying down vocals for MITAM is that … I just don’t think they put that much finesse or care into the act of recording. They tried their best, they wrote the songs that they could, but they were writing while touring and recording in hotel rooms, recording in the middle of the night after a full concert, recording while mentally and physically exhausted, and at times drunk or hung over or high because they had zero down time.
Their voices also sound nearly destroyed. In the same song, End Of The Day, Harry sounds like he’s pushing high notes out of a throat that was fried to a crisp. The notes sound like they came from a tortured animal.
Louis’ voice in I Want To Write You A Song was literally two vocal cords beaten to a pulp, rubbing on a sanding belt. I bet it took him weeks to recover.
They wanted to finish the album so they could push out a release in November, a month for big sales. Harry wanted to start his solo career. The album was heavy on autotuning and Julian Bunetta’s overproduction. It sounds heavy and noisy. Drag Me Down’s lyrics, compared to Strong or Love You Goodbye, are perfunctory and cliched.
But the album still had some real gems because 1D is 1D; their voices sound good together.
To your second point— regarding deliberative work on vocal quality.
Louis had lost so much confidence in his voice between year 1 and year 5 of One Direction that he really had to work to dig himself out of a confidence hole. Vocal cords are muscles and singing is a sport, and much like golf or baseball, yips happen. You lose control of your voice and suddenly your falsetto is gone, your chest to head transition is crap, your intonation goes off the road.
Louis is still in the process of working it out, but here’s the thing.
Even while admitting that he’s scared out of his mind, that he’s shitting bricks, that he always second-guesses himself in the first 30 minutes of a concert, Louis is fearless.
Louis sings songs like Too Young and Bigger Than Me live, in an acoustic setting, at radio stations and on television, with no electronic amps covering up mistakes or second takes.
Louis never, ever lip syncs. It’s live, with live voices and live instruments, every time.
Louis shows us the process of rehearsals. He doesn’t have to do rehearsals, and he doesn’t have to take each concert seriously, but singing is a sport, and it requires a warm up, and he does it.
As I said, Louis is still in the process. He still has moments where intonation is off, but his voice is better than it was, it is more expressive and more theatrical. His recordings are better now. He is able to tour and do three consecutive nights of 100-minute shows without ruining his voice. 80 concerts this year, and more to come. If I know Louis, I know he will continue to strive for better.

thoughts on 1989 TV?
I've not yet actually listened to the whole thing because of life hectic-ness, namely foot surgery that has made fun things like Consuming Music I Love suck a lot. So I'm listening all the way through today while I do some scanning for work! This is gonna be a sort of "live react" stream of consciousness thing that I'll ideally edit before bombarding you with my Thoughts :-)
In general, everything sounds so much crisper and I am LIVING
I've always been kinda meh towards style aside from the last chorus, but there's something sooo much better about style tv!! Haven't listened to the OG 1989 in ages, so I'd need to compare to really explain it (and it might be obvious, but I'm not the greatest at remembering the little details from pre-reputation albums bc rep was my first as a a Fan™️)
Her matured and vastly improved vocals are to die for and have been throughout the ~taylor's version~ journey. MWAH!
OOTW is already a gorgeous song, but tv is, again, just so...!!!!!
AYHTDWS is already one of my favorites, so the rerecording has me EMOTIONAL it's so beautiful. Hold me I listened twice (which I consider a sin on full listen-throughs of albums, though I AM a horrid sinner, so)
I still hate shake it off, but this one's much better. Milder hate, more like distaste now, sort of like a mushy thing on the bottom of my shoe instead of the bottom of my sock
IWYW makes me sprint thru the streets at 5 AM even with my recently removed stitches owie
WHAT IS THE SECRET SAUCE HERE?? Do the drums sound better? Idk!
I know bad blood is considered cringey but listen. It's also so fun and the cringe makes us free. Maybe the harmonies on the chorus have more parts?? Gdi i need to do one to one comparisons with all of these. Already salivating over the Kendrick Lamar version at the end of the album I'm excited for him
It's official that 1989 tv has made me really like songs I've been ambivalent or mildly positive towards (like style and wildest dreams now), so that's like actually huge imo
Everything is so pretty! (I'm half asleep now help I'm at WORK)
I Know Places is one of those TS songs I rarely listen to and then I listen and am like "why the fuck aren't I listening to this one daily" and IKP tv has me feeling that More Intensely
Clean is yet another fave and clean tv makes my very soul tremor. Don't look at me for a week
Wonderland continues to be a fucking transcendental experience that electrocutes my spinal column <3 the bridge is even MORE earth-shattering than it was in the original. please see my original thoughts from 4.5 years ago
Tumblr media
these feelings re: Wonderland still stand and always will
The first chord of YAIL kind of sounds like the first chord of Give Great Thanks by Dorian Electra lmao
Still not crazy about YAIL but the lyrics and the ****** lore...phew!
New Romantics tv is suuuch a good example of how gorgeous tayla's lower register has gotten. It's so much richer and I guess more well supported?
I've heard that Slut! is actually emotional af...not ready
"I might as well be a joke in love" HOO BOY I SEE NOW WHAT FOLKS HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT
"Got lovesick all over my bed" is SO !!!!!!
Okay yeah Slut! is so fucking good
Say Don't Go has me reeling. I can see why it didn't make the final cut (she is just a little too unlike her brethren to the point that, imo, she wouldn't fit well into the original album as well as the songs that made it do), but it's soooo ggoooooOOOD!!! It gives me almost like...cousin of 1989 and Lover and Midnights vibes?
Now That We Don't Talk...!!!! These vault songs fucking rule, dude.
The end of NTWDT 🤝 Mastermind??
The I broke my own heart 'cause you were too polite to do it ⏩️ I broke his heart 'cause he was nice pipeline and how it rejects the continuation of a cycle of passivity while simultaneously continuing the emotional burden carried by women in their relationships!! And also a cycle of cruelty! These are half-baked thoughts but they ARE thoughts I'm having!! An english degree was wasted on me because my textual analysis skills are still so juvenile,,
Is It Over Now Boo From Fleabag Moment
I WAS RIGHT THE KENDRICK LAMAR BAD BLOOD VERSION IS SO FUCKING AJGKDHAGXGBX AHHHHHH (dats me yellin)

Chris Forsyth — Solar Motel (Expanded) (Algorithm Free)
Tumblr media
Chris Forsyth marks the ten-year anniversary of his turn from towards rock with this expanded edition of Solar Motel, augmented with two previously unreleased studio tracks and a side-long live WFMU recording of “Paranoid Cat.” The two newly released tracks are a revelation, solidifying and reaffirming Forsyth’s connection to Television (he studied with Richard Lloyd) with cartwheeling guitar riffs and roiling, surging percussion in the epic vein of Marquee Moon.
Forsyth was just off his 2011 release of Paranoid Cat when he made Solar Motel, stillstruggling for a way to incorporate a palette of influences—Television, Takoma-style fingerpicking, psych and drone—into a coherent aesthetic. Our own Bill Meyer saw him as only partly successful at this on the previous album, calling Paranoid Cat, “an album that is full of good ideas lifted from other people’s work, but he makes such good use of them that it’s easy not to care.”
Solar Motel, Forsyth’s first full-band album, was a big step towards the driving, boogie-ing, rock-leaning long grooves that we have since come to associate with the guitarist. In the notes, he says, “Solar Motel is the first record on which I overtly took rock tropes and twisted them into new shapes, incorporating so many of my interests and influences - the twin-guitar elegance of Television, the sprawl of West Coast psych, the boiled down Rock Minimalism of Rhys Chatham, the abstract tangles of free improv, an undercurrent of ecstatic jazz energy, and the studio textures of Eno/Cale/Roxy ‘70s art rock.… Solar Motel basically set the template for much of what I did for the remainder of that decade.”
The band for Solar Motel included Forsyth, drummer Mike Pride, bassist Peter Kerlin and keyboard player Shawn Edward Hansen, all musicians that Forsyth had worked with previously in various roles and configurations. It was recorded mostly live, though Forsyth put in additional guitar after the fact to build up Television-like layers of interplay. The music took shape in four numbered tracks Solar Motel I through IV.  “Part I” opens with tense, staccato guitar, at first alone, then joined by a second guitar and bass. The groove is insistent, cleanly minimal, and over it, Forsyth improvises warm, fluid arcs of solo guitar, and as it goes, the texture becomes less of a drone and more of a warm, living jam. This becomes a pattern over the next three track, as taut, disciplined motifs blossom into full-band free play. Repetition becomes a launching pad for the wildest swirls of improvisatory ornament, with sweet lyrical mid-range guitar vaulting over motorik grooves.
All that is still there, still striking in the way it marries austere experiment to lighter flaring guitar solo. If you haven’t heard it—or haven’t heard it in a while—all four original tracks remain very much worth a listen. However, it’s the new stuff that you’ll want to spin right away, because these two unreleased tracks take the basic experiment and launch them into richer, more exciting directions.
“Harmonious Dance,” at just under nine minutes, is the expanded release’s best tune. A slow chime of guitar notes hitting turbulence early on in Pride’s swelling drum roll. The notes get bigger, more resonant, more sustained as they go, taking on the burnished glow of Lloyd and Verlaine in tandem (though without the trebly yelp of vocals). “Long Warm Afternoon” starts out with warmth and sustained tones, building shimmering textures of guitar over a steady thump and roll. Both cuts feel less restrained, less tightly disciplined than the original Solar Motel cuts. It’s as if Forsyth had a concept for setting down guardrails and eventually swamping them with sensory data, and it took him a while to implement it fully.
The WFMU recording is fine, too, letting the twitchy glamor of “Paranoid Cat” stretch out, catch fire in a truly insane instrumental freakout and somehow stuff all that back into the bottle for a reprise of the original melody. But if you need a reason to check out this ten years after reissue, I’d look at the two unreleased tracks, where Forsyth and his band hit a groove they’ve been riding ever since.

Final Reflection
I had a really hard time deciding which song I wanted to sing for this assignment, but I ultimately settled on Celebrity Skin by Hole because I think it plays to quite a few of my strengths. It allowed me the freedom to experiment with the performance aspect and add some of my own flair to the track. It also sits in quite a comfortable place in my vocal range, it’s on the lower end with Courtney Love also being an alto. It also has some moments that have a real grit and raspiness to them that I really love. I was responsible for planning the rehearsals and booking the rehearsal spaces, which I think I was pretty successful at as there were only one or two mix-ups with times. I sang the vocals and mixed/edited the studio recording with some guidance from the lovely Stu Brewer in one of the mac suite sessions and from my fellow waterbear student/boyfriend because I really struggled with the production aspect of the project. I also helped out my fellow waterbear student/boyfriend with his project that I sang lead vocals and wrote the lyrics for. We originally wrote it in college a few years ago and haven’t really touched it since. We changed it around a little after having a very productive writing session with Kieron Pepper. He helped me figure out why the existing chorus didn’t sound right in my head and it was due to the phrasing of the lyrics. We also decided to add a new section to act as a chorus as the existing one sounded too much like a pre-chorus.
I think my live performance went really well and I always really enjoy the performance aspect of projects, it's where my passion for music really lies. I think I conveyed the exact amount of instability and anger that I wanted to in my facial expressions and the way I moved my body, as it was written as a very angry song, poking fun at the Hollywood sphere that Courtney Love had been thrust into. Ideally I would’ve had a little more space to move/thrash around but that’s just me being picky. I incorporated some hand movements that I’ve watched Courtney Love do in the live versions of the song that I found, like the way she places her hands under her chin when she sings the line “oh look at my face,” as I thought it was very camp and cute. I didn’t take much else from her aside from fashion/makeup inspiration as her range of movement is limited by her guitar, a problem I do not have, so I mostly just followed my own interpretation of how I think it should be performed.
One thing I need to improve is my planning throughout. It definitely could’ve been better as my organizational skills are severely lacking and I need to be more consistent with how when I get things done, instead of doing nothing and then lots and lots of work in one big burst, I need to start actually sticking to the times I set aside to get things done, i made a weekly planner but I never ended up following the schedule that I made for myself. I am aware of this fact about myself so I always start out with the best intentions and make a game plan but usually around the second week I start to forget things and fall behind, so I need to start setting actual alarms/reminders for when it’s time to get on with a task and hold myself accountable when I fail to do so. I also think my knowledge about production has come a long way, I now understand how to use corrective EQ, how different microphones can be used for different things, and how to add reverb, but it isn’t even nearly as extensive as what it should be by now because I become increasingly nervous around things that I don’t understand and instead of asking for help I like to make myself suffer in silence! I think this is because of some unresolved stuff left over from going to a grammar school. I genuinely need to sit down over the break and rewatch all the content and write down the parts I didn’t really understand and take it to one of the production tutors to help me fill in the gaps in my knowledge. I also ran out of time to record the bass line so the mix sounds quite empty, Stu helped me and explained how to use a spreader to make the sound wider but the lack of bass really sticks out and annoys me, if I could do it again I’d make sure I had allocated enough time to get Rei or Toby in to record the bass line for me. I showed a few of my peers my final mix and the video of my live performance and they all gave me pretty positive feedback, only one person noticed the lack of bass in the studio recording and I got quite a few compliments on my stylistic choices. Overall I think this project went pretty well, I would definitely improve my organisation in every aspect and spend some more time understanding production but I’m pretty happy with the end results.

My Favorite Albums This Year
I’m not a big music person, but I still have opinions on music, so here they are for this year. I’ve decided to go with full albums because if I was doing favorite songs of the year I’d hit Tumblr’s character limit, so here we go, top ten albums (if it was 11 there’d be Laurel Hell in here too fyi but what can you do):
LEVEL SELECT - PIZZA HOTLINE
A chill little EP with vibes of the ps1/dreamcast and early ps2 era, and I think every single person born between 1997-2003 has a lot of nostalgia for that vibe.
World Wide Pop - SUPERORGANISM
Whilst not as good as their debut album, this is still a great entry, and the halved size of the band brings a little more musical cohesion at the expense of some of their unique sound. This was, however, the first gig I went to post-covid (I think), so it was a big deal for me and really helped me like the album.
Nisemono - Ginger Root
It’s a short EP but every track is like something playing on the radio in a good memory.
DISCO4::PART II
HEALTH have gone full dark synthwave in the last few years and I couldn’t be happier, and whilst I wasn’t in love with the first album, this one really hits right, thanks in part to the incredible and talented musical guests.
I Love you Jennifer B - Jockstrap
After being introduced to, and loving, Wicked City earlier in the year I was looking forward to this, and whilst I wasn’t disappointed, I do wish it was as intense as Wicked City, though this is definitely a better album on a technical level.
THEIR MONEY IS YOUR MONEY - 1 800 PAIN
I like when things are good, this is good, don’t fight back on this.
Ants From up There - Black Country, New Road
With the drawn out, progressive structure of bands like The Mountain Goats, the repetative, rhythmic sounds of more experimental artists like Colin Stetson, and the vocals and subject matter of a contemporary indie band like MGMT (not a coincidence that all three of those have made three of my favorite albums), this is a fantastic journey that’s storyful and emotive, and I’ve listened to it countless times since it was introduced to me.
Digital Spool - Jazz Emu
Despite the fact they’re just silly comedy albums, I enjoy Jazz Emu’s new album when it releases every year, and it’s insane how much improvement he’s had musically in just the last three years. Even moreso than the last album; ‘Humilis’, this album has a lot of self-analysis. Many of the songs on the album ask ‘it’s not right that people don’t take my music seriously on a technical level just because the lyrics are silly’, and that’s made clear from the prologue. It becomes more clear during ‘tonally inconsistent’, which introduces that actually you can have comedy tracks and serious tracks on the same album. we then end with Hummingbird, a fully serious ballad about a pastoral type of innocence that’s simple and understated yet subtly beautiful, then the titular song which states the thesis; ‘do you really hear my music? or do you just hear setups and punchlines?’ it’s his best work yet musically, with some great comedy tracks and leaves him in a place where he can go anywhere he wants on the next album.
Mr Morale & The Big Steppers - Kendrick Lamar
When I first heard this album, I remember thinking ‘nah I’m not as into this one’, but then a few weeks later I was overcome with the urge to play it again, and I liked it a lot more, then a few more weeks later the same thing. As always this is an introspective and simultaneously macrospective analysis of people and person that knows when to be aggressive and when to be soft. Absolutely one of the best of the year.
LABJAMS - Michael Whyckoff
Normally I don’t like to include soundtracks in these lists, despite them constitutuing a good 30-50% of what I listen to, and it has been an extraordinary year for soundtracks; from Bodies Bodies Bodies, Nope, Turning Red and Everything Everywhere all at Once to Immortality, the bad guys and Paradise Killer, but BONELAB’s official soundtrack was so good that it transcends just being a score. Featuring several fully vocalised tracks on top of atmospheric tracks and regular score tracks, this album is at the same time cohesive yet jumps around so many styles and tones and feels, it’s a genuinely impressive feat of music and a genuinely great album (scoring a genuinely great game) and I highly recommend it!

Reviving Pop-Punk with Passion: OddLisT Talks 'Undisputed' Listen up all you fans of pop-punk because OddLisT is going to give you a nice little trip back to the days of Blink-182 and Sum 41 with his new single “Undisputed. ” But do not think that this is a simple direct continuation of the classics. “Undisputed” thrashes away with the intensity and defiance that first captured our attention in the noughties but marinated in 2021 with perfect production by Nick Giaimo and Ryan Schumer. With Horner’s resonant voice tugging at the emotions, the lyrics are the perfect accompaniment to feel like you’re back in a carefree summer, singing about being 16 again. Recently, we sat down with the man behind the Pop-Punk Revival show himself to talk about what drives him - from the musical influences that inspired this sizzling rebirth to the workmanship that led to the creation of “Undisputed”. OddLisT takes the curtain off his journey through the industry and where he would like to take this throw-back sound next. Prepare yourself for the rebirth of the spirit of pop-punk that has never died out in the first place. Listen to Undisputed https://open.spotify.com/album/7cFqrwlLL1ww62w06oG4Ow?si=tF-EywHpRb6cfkP0xUt_IA Follow Matthew S. Horner on Youtube Spotify Facebook Instagram Tiktok Soundcloud What is your stage name OddLisT Is there a story behind your stage name? I am strange and I appreciate everything odd. My music is just that a list of odd songs Where do you find inspiration? Everywhere. Anything can be inspiring. If it give me emotion I'll probably use it at some point. I like to tell a story. What was the role of music in the early years of your life? Pretty much the same as it is now. Therapy for the soul. Got me through so much. That's why I started writing. To connect with others. Are you from a musical or artistic family? Not really. I'm kind of the "odd" one out Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry? Blink182. I'm sure it shows... but their music is what changed and shaped who I am musically. How did you learn to sing/write/to play? By ear. And just doing it over and over and over again. I still have soo much to improve What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform? Blink182, greenday, and Jimmy eat world. Best show ever! How could you describe your music? That's not easy, I write so many different styles. I think I would say it is possible for anyone to find one of my songs they like.. Describe your creative process. Drums first, then guitars, then bass, and finally vocals. I tend to work days on the music in a row until it's there. Then I could take weeks or months writing the lyrics. Then longer after I decide if I like it or want to change it. What is your main inspiration? The chance that someone will tell me that my music helped them in some way get through or enhance some part of their life. It's all about the connections made. What musician do you admire most and why? Mark Hoppus. He is always doing something and writing. No matter what, he found a way to keep blink going. He has had so many things that could have kept him down, but he didn't stop. Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career? It will never stop evolving. I dont know if what I'm doing could be considered a career yet haha. Who do you see as your main competitor? No one, im not trying to compete with anyone. I'm just doing me. What are your interests outside of music? My family first and foremost. I am a maintenance man by day. I love yo tinker and fix things, make things.. I like motorcycles and cars and movies! If it wasn't a music career, what would you be doing? What I am doing by day.. maintenance/fixing/repairs What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music? The industry changing... its so hard to get played with as saturated as the scene is now If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be? Labels now want you to do everything and have a massive following before they will even look at you.
I would like to see less studio magic and more authentic artists. I like the ones that you can see the potential to grow with their fans https://open.spotify.com/artist/3azK0KETAYZ19rBnhhRq8W Why did you choose this as the title of this project? It's about never giving up. Getting knocked down over and over again in life and in music. Music is so subjective you have to have a thick skin. Im undisputed at getting back in the saddle What are your plans for the coming months? I am already working on 2 new releases. Then an album release of the past 7 songs! Do you have any artistic collaboration plans My co producer is Nick Giaimo, and Ryan Schumer was the mastering engineer on this song. I really like them and hope to continue working with them What message would you like to give to your fans? Don't you ever give up! Become undisputed!

Week ending: 4th August
A linguistic curiosity this week: two songs both with the contracted form of "ev'ry". That's not something you see much nowadays. I don't know when it faded out, either - I guess you only really see it in songs, otherwise there's no reason to specify that you're using the contracted version, outside of lyrics? I wonder if Americans were also doing it, or if this is a specifically British type of stuffiness?
Ev'ry Day of My Life - Malcolm Vaughan (peaked at Number 5)
Malcolm Vaughan was a Welsh singer who I had absolutely never heard of before this entry, but apparently alongside the McGuire sisters, he did a version of this song, later popularised by Bobby Vinton in the 70s. So I'm hoping for a serviceable pop standard, fresh enough for people 20 years later to want to revamp it. Is that too much to hope for?
We start with some very dramatic violins, and then a rather operatic slow-down into the main lyrics. And what lame lyrics they are, right out of a book of clichés, about how Every day of my life, I'll be in love with you / Every day of my life, I promise I'll be true. Et cetera. Malcolm will prove his love every day for the rest of his life, he'll prove it over and over, he'll be devoted always to you. Honestly, it smacks of either desperation or protesting too much. There's such thing as too much effort, Malcolm!
The only really notable thing is the bizarrely RP accent on youuuuu at the end of certain lines. Malcolm was Welsh, but you wouldn't know it. I feel like the Beatles might have been a tipping point here, with regional accents suddenly becoming okay in music, but I'm excited to see if somebody else comes along sooner to prove me wrong.
He has a set of pipes. You can't deny that. So of course we get a Big Old Ending. It's tolerable, because Malcolm really can sing, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
I have nothing else to say about this, but researching it I found out an excellent fact about a song that will appear on this blog in the 1956 section. So look forward to that, I guess.
Ev'rywhere - David Whitfield (3)
In any other entry, I feel like I'd have a sense that the only was was up, at this point. But it's David Whitfield, so I suspect we're going to get more of the same, but with less vocal chops. I'm open to being proven wrong, though. Maybe this will be the David Whitfield song that I finally love?
We start with some gentle violin melody, and then - and I am not making this up - an even more ridiculous version of the silly RP "you" that Malcolm used. Even worse, there's a pronounced "h" sound in the titular "ev'rywhere" and a distinctly reedy-sounding "meeeeeee" at the end of the line. So the first line sounds like Youuuu are everyHwhere, / EveryHwhere youuuu're there / Night and day youuu share with meeeeeeeeee.
This carries on throughout the song - if there's a choice between pronouncing a word normally or in an irritatingly affected fashion, you know which one David has chosen. There's a bit of his trademark strangled delivery on other lines, and then of course, the Biggest Oldest Endings of Big Old Endings, because David will not be outdone by some Welsh upstart.
You know, this made me wonder if David also has an accent he's suppressing, and wouldn't you know, he's from Hull. So probably also a bit of an accent-based classism dynamic. Which really ought to endear him to me a bit, as a fellow Northerner, but somehow doesn't.
It doesn't help here that the lyrics are super creepy. They're meant to be about how David's love is always on his mind, but it also sounds plausibly like they're dead and he's hallucinating their ghost? How else should I take lyrics about how Now I know you’re gone / You still linger on / You’re a haunting memory, or about how, walking down an empty street his love is still there, For now I’m on my own / I’ll never walk alone.
Actually, I think the ghost interpretation maybe improves this song. Otherwise, it's just about a break-up that David's hung-up on. Which is much less interesting. But ghost love following you around? That's some good material, metaphorical or otherwise.
Well, those songs were cut from very similar cloth. But my distaste for David Whitfield cannot be stifled! I cannot wait for him to no longer be scoring top 10 hits.
Favourite song of the bunch: Ev'ry Day of My Life

Note
Yes, i’ve downplayed doyoung against others. For me being average and having hardwork to bring you this far is a compliment actually. Sorry about that. No worries, it’s just me being pessimistic, I don’t represent the whole fandom. I asked because I want a different perspective from myself (and that I got, haha). I do have a hard time finding good live for his current title track, beginning, from little wave. I know it’s not going to sound the same as recording but still. Or maybe as the moderator suggest, I actually don’t really like this album? Idk i played it all the time tho. Actually now that I think about it, I don’t like the title track. It doesn’t have natural flow in the melody. Instrument are great. Little light just does not work for me. It’s all over the place. The song doesn’t feel whole. And to see dy struggles to sing it live just doesn’t increase my love for the song. It’s maybe the writer, composer style which is not my preference.
Having a song within his range is not a play safe for me. His normal range is already quite high. I want him to be able to sing good quality lives repeatedly is what I mean because of his tendency to want to perform live as much as he wants. Maybe I have different approach. And songs do not need to have really really high notes to be a good song. But if done well, it would be really good. Or else it would be gimmicky. Anyway thanks for the opinions guys. I don’t agree with all but will take some suggestions to re-evaluate. Will come back again, maybe not in the near future for more discussion (Little light live from zico the season is not bad, yeay)
The people you compared Do to are not born talents either, they also practice a lot. And Whitney would't be Whitney without tens of years of many hours of work every day, watch her interviews.
We can't even measure what is the natural speed of Do's progression. He is so occupied, he barely has time for vocal lessons. Not to mention a lack of good teachers.
Recently I've heard an opinion that the love for lipsyncing and heavy post-processing of "live performances" in k-pop makes people forget how real live singing sounds. In addition, the sound that people hear in the venue and what a mic (of a fansite's camera or the stage one) picks up are two different sounds.
I haven't heard all of live stages yet, but among those I've watched some I liked, I thought Do sounded well, and some not so much.
Doyoung won't improve his live singing skills of whole songs without actually singing live. A lot. In different circumstances and time of the day. He already sounds better than majority of Western male singers.
We, ifans who don't understand Korean (you didn't mention the lyrics so I'm assuming you are one as well), can't wholly perceive a song the way it was intended. Think of instrumental versions of songs stripped of a voice, they are often hard to listen to. I can give you an example of a song in Russian. You probably won't be impressed because the pain and desperation, the emptiness and the will to live despite a thought to kill oneself won't be accesseble to you. And the winter landscape and the city won't resonate either, while I need just a glimpse to imagine how bleak is the whole city, how people freeze on bus stops or dream of the sun and summer, the depression due the lack of vitamins and constant surviving.
Same thing with Do's title. It has a message that we don't hear while listening to the song. Notice that most idols prefer Beginning. It's a song about keeping on singing, reaching other people, it resonates with them, the sentiment

▶▶ LOADING … any progress is good progress ( workshop solo )
Tumblr media
as it was his first time hosting a workshop, he was immensely grateful that he could bounce ideas back and forth with insung. there's been some group sessions and one on one's for yushin to check in after the initial introduction of the workshop. people often act and grow differently - some better solo due to personality traits, and some who flourish in a unit. he can barely think back to how he was as a trainee. it's strange. and he's not envious at all to be in the position of a trainee again, but he did remember enjoying attending workshops. it's surreal to be hosting one though...
"you know, i wasn't sure if the trainees were particularly interested in being rappers specifically, but ones who were willing to improve on it. and i can relate to that because i was in a similar position as a trainee and idol. if you asked me as a trainee, i would have never thought i'd be pegged to be the main rapper of my group," a position he's held proudly for years now. "and i think that's where a lot of them come from too, at least with this roster. better at singing... or dancing... but there was the intrigue and understanding that rap has a completely different energy that is applied to the same song. i don't need them to be or want to be the rapper of a group. but its a nuance that is often missed for an opportunity if not explored. perhaps an advantage of the main vocal of the next hot group would be that the main vocal can also cut it as a lead rapper but that's going a bit too far in the future, let me wind it in a little."
since all the trainees were getting the hang of the task at hand right now, he wonders what type of evaluation would be the best. "i know im not expecting any freestyle or anything like that," because it's definitely not the point of yushin's workshop to begin with, "but i wonder if it would be better to give them an element of surprise with a completely contrasting song or lyrics sheet, or if.... we can give them something that makes sense so that it doesn't throw them off too much." this workshop isn't about punishment but growth after all. "although it would be perhaps more familiar if it was a song from legacy's discography already.... or maybe i could whip up a simple melody but i also don't want it to be too simple. what if i think of a few examples and send them over to you in a day or so, and you can let me know what we ought to ultimately decide on?"

Saviours - Green Day (Joint Review)
By Joe & Leon Guatieri
The following is a review on the latest Green Day album Saviours by myself and my brother Leon. Each description and will include both my opinion and Leon’s and will be indicated whose is what with their name above it.
Green Day come out of the woodwork with their 14th studio album Saviours. The Pop-Punk legends have faced much criticism over the past decade from both critics and fans alike, will this release see any change in the band’s fortunes?
Song Mentions
Track 1: The American Dream Is Killing Me
Joe: The opener is very much the tone setter for the album as Green Day present an a song that would be pleasing to fans of their American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown eras, highlighted by the rousing sing-along worthy chorus with a Classic Rock feel. Despite hooks aplenty this song suffers from some weird lyrical choices by Billie Joe Armstrong, “We’re pedophiles for” is a particular head scratcher, what sort of simile is that?
Leon: This song for me gets better upon repeated listens, personally I love how it’s a sendup to American Idiot but proceeds in its own direction.
Track 3: Bobby Sox
Joe: This for me is Green Day attempting a type of song that Weezer would do, complete with the Beach Boys-esque vocal harmonies and talking about that feeling when you don’t have a girlfriend. Although the lyrics again don’t go over well, the instrumental more than makes for that with a Power Pop edge.
Leon: I for one love the riff and Billie’s vocals just ties everything up in a neat bow. It’s very reminiscent to me of Uno from the fabled trilogy, this is what I’ve been hoping for years now.
Track 4: One Eyed Bastard
Joe: Ever wanted a song that sounds like both Holiday by Green and So What by Pink, we’ll then here you go? It’s catchy enough in that old Green Day way to keep me engaged, the riff and chorus are decent but again just uninspired lyrics, it’s like pouring out alphabet spaghetti onto a plate and seeing what semblance of words that it can form. “Bada bing, bada bing, bada boom”, honestly I’m just stunned. Come on Green Day, you’re better then that, only 20 years to late too the party when media done nothing but TV shows and movies about the Mafia.
Leon: Without a doubt my favourite song on the album, the riff just makes me want to get up and dance with a memorable chorus to boot.
Track 5: Dilemma
Joe: For me this is the best song on the album and in-turn one of the best songs that Green Day have made in years! The theming of this track is particularly striking directly referencing Billie Joe Armstrong’s previous alcoholism and how he wants to live without hurting himself, his family or his friends. It feels very much like a cousin to the song Bobby Sox as Green Day bring in a Hard Rock feel to the riffs and also memorable bridges.
Leon: Another amazing track and it really does hit home with how personal it is, Green Day have never been afraid to show people their deepest feelings, they always have their hearts on their sleeves and that is genuinely one of the best things about them.
Track 8: Coma City
Joe: I really like the pacing of the track and by the end of it, it really improves upon itself within the direction taking the song up to another level with a good solo and a phenomenal performance on the drums by Tre Cool.
Leon: The production of this song is on another level in terms of how it colours the song, especially within the drums, highlighting a standout performance by Tre Cool, showing off what the man does best!
Track 13: Father to a Son
Joe: This song shows Saviours at its emotional high point, with every member of Green Day having a son this is something that they could all put their input into and that clearly shows. Father to a Son is accompanied by wonderful orchestration that really hits home the emotional potency of what this track is all about.
Leon: The emotion of this track hit me like a tone of bricks as Billie in songs admits that as both a father and a man he has made mistakes but will never do anything to hurt his song. This Green Day song for me marks a statement of change for the band as there is no hate involved neither anger being directed at anyone, it’s only built on love and care for one’s children.
Track 14: Saviours
Joe: For me this is by far the worst song on this record, something about the melody seems very stretched out in-turn feeling very forced. The song just doesn’t progress in a way that I enjoy and the solo feels completely out of place.
Leon: Regardless of the meanings that people obtain from listening to this record, this song pertains to “saviours” of anything and everything wether that be politics, rock music or somewhere else in-between. It is ambiguous in every positive sense of the word.
Conclusion
Joe: Taking everything into account, I think that Saviours is at its very best at the mid-point of the album having its best run of songs there but in-turn it makes it lopsided. It is inconsistent in that regard but when the highs are there, they really do standout. Green day can still write great hooks and songs that have a lot of emotional weight but more often then not, the lyrics feel misguided and misplaced. I think that Billie Joe Armstrong has put himself in a similar lyric writing facility as Rivers Cuomo of Weezer at this point in his career where it feels like that he is trying too hard to match the lyrics up to the instrumental in hopes for them to connect. Lay off the modern references and stick to how you really feel, that’s what I say. Overall, any record would of been better than their last effort “Father Of All Mother Fuckers” but this does mark a return to form for Green Day. This I really do think is their best album since American Idiot and they can only get better from here.
Favourite Song: Dilemma
Worst Song: Saviours
6/10
Leon: Let’s be honest, any album that Green Day would of put out after “Father Of All Mother Fuckers” would of been better but Saviours goes light years ahead to put out another classic! Saviours is neither too short nor too long and is in-fact the perfect length to make sure that people are having a good time, all the time. I’ll look forward to listening too it more and I am so glad that Green Day are back to their best!
Favourite Song: One Eyed Bastard
Worst Song: Corvette Summer
10/10
