"The 2022 High Noon skins"

(remember: shorts are opinionated hot takes delivered quickly, not vehicles for nuance)

SCRIPT(s)

Part 1: A new crop of High Noon skins just dropped, and beyond being yet another reminder how desperately the old High Noon skins need visual updates, what do they have to offer?

Well it's all structured as a big train heist, with a group of champions trying to rob Mordekaiser's infernal Sulfur Rail train, which ferries his victims and the riches he steals and swindles out of people through the gates of hell.

So far we have Mordekaiser, Varus, Talon, Katarina and Leona for revealed skins, with Leona's voice lines revealing that Twitch, Sion, Viktor, Tahm Kench and Samira will be getting a second round of skins as well.

Underneath the train heist, there's an old prophecy about five legendary "Harbingers" - who as far as I can tell are Leona, Varus, Tahm Kench, Katarina and Viktor - who will strike down Mordekaiser and in so doing will possibly, although not for certain, end the world. So the stakes are high on the train heist, and you know what, if you're gonna have a demon infested heaven-and-hell old west, dripping in southern gothic, western myths and delicious edgelord nonsense, a train heist that heralds the End of Days is exactly the kind of tone you should strike with it.

But what about the skins themselves? Well, subscribe for part two.

Part 2:

Watch part one if you haven't, this part two of our look at the new High Noon skins:

Starting off, we have Varus as a dead angel who was nearly content to let Mordekaiser's Sulfur Rail take him to hell, but who is spurred by... something to take up his bow again and join the train heist. As a skin, he's got sort of a Lone Ranger thing going on visually with the mask, but I just don't feel like there's that much THERE beyond "cowboy with a bow," and I feel like the angels are badly underexplored in the High Noon universe.

In the splash we see him battling Talon who... well, Talon's model being Talon's model he doesn't look great in game, but he did get a KILLER short story setting up his narrative called The Stranger On The Road which you should read (or subscribe to my main channel where I will be doing a read-through of it). He's a Devil who has been infected with Angel blood and as a result has grown a conscience that pains him terribly. It's classic half-angel, half-devil edgelord nonsense, which High Noon has maybe a bit too much of already, and again I feel like the design really doesn't do anything interesting with the cowboy aesthetic, he's more or less dressed like Varus, and, like, people did dress more than one way in the old west, y'know, Riot.

And here's Katarina, with her daggers which are also guns. Or at least they have gun chambers on them, which... okay, I mean, High Noon has sillier concepts.

She's out for revenge - her people were swindled, Mordekaiser took the spoils, and she means to collect the bounty on his head to even the score. In this regard she's similar to Leona, although it's not clear what if any dynamic the two of them are going to have with each other in the story.

Her design is pretty good - her incredible hairstyle is the showstopper here, which is probably why the rest of the outfit is relatively underplayed in brown and black, and I do like the look of that choker on her.

Which leaves us with Mordekaiser, the Mechanical Devil, the villain of our piece. He runs the train which ferries damned souls and stolen goods to Hell, and while his visual effects are amazing I don't know about the design if I'm honest. He's supposed to be the demon spirit of a ghost train and I'm really missing the presence of steam funnels, pistons, gears, wheels, y'know, all the mechanical stuff that should define him. It all seems to have been loaded on to his mace, which leaves the man himself looking to me far too much like his medieval suit of armor base form, I dunno, I'm a little let down by it.

Part 4:

Watch parts 1 through 3 if you haven't, but we left the best for last with High Noon Leona, the legendary of the bunch.

And a fair criticism of the skin is that outside of the big shield, it is hard to recognize Leona here. That's part of the general problem of League of Legends women especially having indistinct faces, which this short isn't about, and isn't really this specific skin's fault.

Looking past that, holee SHIT, I dunno about y'all but I think this one is a banger. A the thing that bugs me about High Noon is the human character designs are pretty conservative about fully exploring Old West fashion and aesthetics - it's cowboy hats and leather chaps all the way down, but Leona brings the full gothic southern belle ensemble to the party: Deadly sharp hoop petticoats, frills, laces, ribbons, embroidery, the whole nine yards, and it so much fun just to look at.

She's a woman scorned, her family was robbed by Mordekaiser, and she's leading the heist on his train to get it all back, for which purpose she has acquired... seemingly demonic powers, which manifest as the brimstone butterflies that follow her particle effects, and one of which also sits in her hair as a decorative ornament, which fucking rules.

Interestingly, though, and I do love this detail, Leona is not wearing dainty high society shoes, but big sturdy, riding boots. There's a practical nature underneath all that fashion, which isn't afraid to get its hands dirty.

Après avoir terminé 10 de ces défis, les joueurs recevront également une capsule éternelle.

Outre le côté gratuit de l'événement, les joueurs pourraient être tentés d'acheter le High Noon Pass régulier pour 1650 RP ou le pack MSI High Noon 2022 pour 2650 RP. Bien que les défis soient offerts à tous les joueurs, le Pass régulier attribue 25 essences mythiques, MSI Orbs, émotes sur le thème des événements, 3000 essences bleues, 1250 Essence orange, coffres de chef-d'œuvre, etc. à travers des défis supplémentaires.

En plus de la passe habituelle de midi, le bundle offre des avantages supplémentaires, comme un champion de Talon permanent, High Noon Talon et High Noon Talon Border Icon. Les joueurs qui ont des quêtes supplémentaires à midi peuvent gagner des récompenses hebdomadaires pour jouer league et gagner plus de jetons qui peuvent être utilisés pour obtenir des chromas cutanés, des émotes, et plus encore dans la boutique.

Whoever the riot higher up is who chooses which champion gets which skin needs to be fired, this whole year had been filled with just really terrible choices. Giving Sivir the legendary Eclipse skin when Kayle the Sun Eater is already an option (Or Diana who didn’t even get a skin for it when she’s the aspect of the moon), giving Lux and Ezreal the special skins for porcelain, the bad choices for Arcana skins, giving Ziggs and willump bee skins, and now the most egregious of all the fucking terrible group of champions they chose to give high noon skins to. Leona, Katarina, Talon, Mordekaiser, none of these characters work in this setting, and Kled, Rell, and Samira would be perfect fits.

Hey y’all!

So good to be back! I enjoyed this blog break more than I expected. As you have guessed from the title, I was in Congo Republic, precisely in Brazzaville. Question. Why would I –out of all the exotic locations on earth choose to go – to Congo? Well, I didn’t choose, my mum was going home and she needed an offspring to show off(you know, the usual stuff) and I was the only one available because my baby sis is preparing for her national service to this great country. Bleeeh

Mummy Dearest!!!

My mother is a Congolese woman(in case you haven’t already figured that out), which makes me part Congo and no I can’t dance like the sexy girls in Fally Ipupa or Koffi Olomide’s videos. Republic of Congo aka Congo Brazzaville, with a population of almost 5 million people has had the same president since my mum was in high school. No joke. I feel we should just call the man, The King instead of president. I mean…

Anyhoo, I’m not here to give a history lesson, you can Google any other information you want(which might be propaganda because The King is paranoid as hell), this post is a list(you know I love lists) of the interesting things I noticed while I was in Brazzaville.

1- There are more taxis than people. This shocked me at first but I eventually got used it because of how cheap it is to go around town. I didn’t even need to negotiate, I just jumped into taxis like a New Yorker. Pure bliss.(p.s it’s wise to always have the exact fare which is 1000 CFA, if not, let the driver know immediately)

2- I like how the “First Lady” is referred to as “Madame La Presidente” instead of the plain “la premiere dame”. Lol, this might be trivial but it tickled my fancy. (There was a HUGE thanksgiving service at the cathedral when she got out of the hospital, Mama has been sick for a while). She owns a couple of fuel stations, “Oil Congo” SMH

3- Cooking gas is so scarce! And friggin’ expensive. 60,000 CFA for gas? Oh my God! When I go around in the evenings, there are insane queues at the very few depots and it just makes me so sad. I mean, it’s cooking gas for God’s sake! How can gas be scarce. So, most people use firewood or charcoal to cook.

4- Generators are still a luxury here. Coming from a country where even minimum wage earners have generators, it’s strange for me. When the light is seized here, my uncle brings out candles. I kinda welcomed it though, the silence and fresh air was beautiful unlike Lagos with its fumes. But there are fucking massive mosquitoes that I think are assassins. They probably have their own training camp.(Make sure you carry your mosquito repellent, these things are mean thugs)

5- The trains have been abandoned at the train station and nobody touches it. Weird ass shit. I don’t understand why the trains are not functioning. A country with no trains is just sad.

6- I found it quaint that they put the prices on items at the market on display. As if to say, “don’t haggle, can’t you see the price already?“

7- Pharmacies. They are everywhere. A street can have like, 10. There are as many pharmacies in Congo Brazzaville as there are churches in Nigeria. But they don’t open on the weekends. Which is very very very weird. And they have special night pharmacies too.

8- Civil employees work from 8am to 2pm and close by noon on Fridays. I’m. So. Jealous

9- Puma is a fuel station. Period.

10- Sunday is a marathon day in Brazzaville. Seriously, every Sunday, people come out in their really chic sport outfits and take to the streets. They really love walking here and I don’t blame them considering the heavy meals they eat.And all the drinking. God Lord, Congolese folk are closet alcoholics and don’t even realize it. I got to indulge though.

11- This is one of the coolest things I noticed. When people are going to bury someone, they are usually in a convoy with the picture of the deceased on each car. Without traffic lights or the police, other motorists clear the path for them, I mean cars stop so that the convoy can get through. Sent chills through my body but I think it was really cool. So respectful.

12- And best of all, Congo Brazzaville was very good for my ego. The citizens are very blunt and uninhibited with their words. It was very refreshing to hear, “tu es tres belle, Yaya”. hearing you’re pretty from one male stranger is just ordinary but hearing it from males and females is a super ego boost. And I luxuriated in all of it.

It was so much fun meeting people who knew me only as a baby or a child. One woman grabbed her chest when she saw me, she was the nurse who attended to my mum when she was giving birth to me. She screamed about how much I had grown(I really don’t know why people do this). And she asked me to buy her a beer for all the stress I gave my mum during labour, then she proceeded to tell me about the birth. Funny story for another day. Lol

Below is me about to go to attend the lauch of my uncle’s cooking oil. A little dramatic with the tshirt and wrapper but that’s how we Congo girls roll!!!
