the hitch in van helsing's words when he says "i beseech you" im going to cry for real this time. it's not even simply that he knows how important it is that he gets arthur to trust him, that he's conscious of their duty to all living souls and lucy herself to do this to her and how difficult this will be physically and emotionally. it's that arthur now distrusts him, cries at him in anger - arthur, the man who looks like his lost son and whom he loves because of it. the man whose love and respect he may now never get back after suggesting mutilating lucy's corpse. he isn't just desperate for all the men in that room to trust him so they can give lucy peace and keep the living safe. that's the sacrifice of his father's heart splitting in two right there. wtf alan burgon.

anyone else kinda disappointed lucie’s powers never got a grand reveal or even much acknowledgement throughout the last hours? especially in chain of thorns with the final battle and what she did to save everyone…she is often just completely overlooked and it really grates me.
from the very start of chain of gold, all the focus was on james’ shadow powers. and then lucie called an entire freaking river of ghosts to save cordelia … and all we got was magnus looking at her intently and jesse later telling her he answered her call. not one real bit of acknowledgment from her friends. and i was hoping that part of lucie’s arc would be frustration at being the “second herondale” sibling, living in her brother’s shadow, embracing her power and eventually telling everyone the truth about her powers and having them realise oh shit, lucie is powerful, she’s been powerful this whole time, arguably even more powerful than james…but literally like none of her friends acknowledge it at all and it’s so frustrating to me as a big lucie fan :/. like home girl has called on and commanded LEGIONS of ghosts, she brought someone back to life for crying out loud, and it’s NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED PROPERLY and it’s so annoying to me !!!!! to clarify i do not hate james at all or anything, just that there was SO much focus on his shadow shifting ability, what about lucie’s power over the dead huh??!
the lack of a grand reveal just felt so anticlimactic and frustrating. outside of jesse, malcolm, and idek grace it’s like no one even cared. except cordelia who felt upset lucie couldn’t open up to her about it (and like on the one hand ok i get the whole secrets thing is the driving force of the plot & ig i’d be a bit upset if my best friend hid something massive from me, BUT at the same time i’d be like ok, so given what we’re discussing here (necromancy) i guess that’s kinda valid why you felt the need to hide that and also wow you’re insanely powerful?) also why did lucie’s adoration of cordelia feel one-sided,
anyway some random thoughts, i just feel like lucie is never given enough credit for how powerful she is and all she did in the series, away from the limelight. i was soo hyped for a herondale woman but she was just not respected enough !

(ID: That still of Lockwood, Lucy, AND George leaning against the wall, now with speech bubbles
Lockwood: can we stop cropping George out of this photo?
Lucy: what part of "the best of us" did you people miss?
George's right arm: thanks, guys. It's almost like I had a character arc about being disposable and extraneous or something
End ID)
Yeah, I'm salty
First and last time I'll ever add salt to the ship tag, apologies but also can we maybe don't?

richard's relationship with money is so interesting to me despite/because of how vague and nonspecific it is in canon. which only makes sense because the show isn't interested in richard's backstory at ALL and, it being an audio medium, it can't exactly give many context clues like wardrobe/style or what his apartment/house looks like. but it's like......... he doesn't have interests, he dabbles in money-making activities. i am practically forced to assume that his mention of being good at pool also = a side hustle. his estranged dad up and left him a house and a paid ride to college. at this point he's way better off than he's ever been -- after 18 years of living with two separate conmen and a mother who doesn't care about him in mediocre apartments, he's suddenly on his own with his future out in front of him, and....... he STILL takes very risky grade-changing jobs for money? like he bypasses getting a regular college job and goes straight to petty crime? and apparently "far worse" crimes??? it's such an interesting balance between craving the security of Having Money and being pathologically unable to get it in a "normal" "safe" way. he doesn't even do anything with it in canon, he just GETS it. he isn't even buying lucy's drinks himself!!!! obviously even richard has bills to pay (which is. very funny to me. sorry that i think 19-year-old college era richard is the funniest person to ever exist, gremlin who's only ever lived in an apartment with his mother, sister, and mother's rotating cast of boyfriends, suddenly has a whole ass house dumped in his lap on his 18th birthday in exchange for his whole ass father's wholesale abandonment of him, has to figure out how to pay utility bills on his own, maybe thinks about getting a barista job or whatever kids did in the 80s, record shop clerk job?? and then nopes past it and picks "exploiting a child genius" as a career path instead. what a fucking legend. i also think he murdered people for money a couple times but that's just me) sorry i've lost the plot of this post thinking about campbell county community college computers richard. imagine being the people at the 5 Cs in charge of hiring STUDENT COUNSELORS and seeing richard maxwell strut into his interview and thinking "yes this 18-year-old suspiciously home-owning kid who talks like a john hughes movie antagonist and is currently his kid sister's very much illegal guardian is the perfect fit for our emotionally and socially fragile 11-year-old resident genius. what could go wrong" and then they have to pay for nicholas adamsworth's therapy sessions for the next 5 years because richard maxwell was what could go wrong. fuck. "waylaid in the windy city" maybe be my personal favorite richard but pre- and mid-"eugene's dilemma" richard is definitely the weirdest and funniest

another thing about grand slams is that since 2018 only charles and max have had grand slams. not even lewis in 2020 (in the possibly fastest car ever made) got a grand slam. his last one was in 2018.
honestly it is so clear, the 2020s are going to be defined by of-course max but then charles 🤌
The more important thing to note is that they are the only ones since 2022 with the new regulations and the current car design we have. That's the most telling.

Edward’s Engagement to Lucy
The novel Sense & Sensibility makes a very important point about Edward’s engagement to Lucy Steele and it’s NOT that Lucy was a master seductress (though she is probably the most intelligent of the scheming women, after Lady Susan). Edward’s engagement to Lucy happened because his family circumstances left him vulnerable.
Edward is the most dependent of Jane Austen’s heroes. He only has £2000 of his own (about £100/year), which would be too little to marry upon, almost too little to support himself in the gentry. He wants to go into the church, but he can’t because his mother won’t support him. This is a real, legitimate issue. Without family support, Edward might have ended up as a permanent curate, making about £50/year (£150/year total) and never having enough to marry. This is a real thing that happened in the time period. So, as Edward explains:
I should very soon have outgrown the fancied attachment, especially by mixing more with the world, as in such case I must have done. But instead of having any thing to do, instead of having any profession chosen for me, or being allowed to chuse any myself, I returned home to be completely idle; and for the first twelvemonth afterwards I had not even the nominal employment, which belonging to the university would have given me; for I was not entered at Oxford till I was nineteen. I had therefore nothing in the world to do, but to fancy myself in love; and as my mother did not make my home in every respect comfortable, as I had no friend, no companion in my brother, and disliked new acquaintance, it was not unnatural for me to be very often at Longstaple, where I always felt myself at home, and was always sure of a welcome; and accordingly I spent the greatest part of my time there from eighteen to nineteen
Which means that Mrs. Ferrars was the author of her own destruction, something that is just more delicious than Lucy being the ultimate schemer. Basically everything she does towards her sons backfires. She tries to push Edward into a fancy career, instead he gets engaged to her last choice for him as a wife. She signs over an estate to Robert, and Robert marries that same worst choice.
Edward got engaged to Lucy because he was unloved, vulnerable, and bored. All Lucy had to do was be pretty, kind to him, and to actually support his desire to be in the church. It’s easy to see how he was attracted to her.
Parents/guardians in Jane Austen who try to push their children into marrying for wealth ultimately fail. This happens to General Tilney, Sir Thomas Bertram, Mrs. Norris, and Mrs. Ferrars. I wonder if Jane Austen was trying to show that it was both imprudent and immoral to push for marriages without any thought towards love.
