Just a reminder, if you’re Jewish and in financial distress:

Check whether there’s a Hebrew Free Loan Society in your area.

HFLSs provide interest-free loans to Jews in need, for things like unemployment help, rent, medical care, etc. They usually adapt repayment terms on an individual basis, depending on your situation.

They differ depending on where you live, but here in Washington state, they provide:

Mini-loans of up to $1000 that don’t require a guarantor

General loans of up to $6000 with a guarantor

Loans of up to $7500 for education

I know that when you’re unemployed or going through financial hardship, it’s easy to do things like go off meds you should be on or not get medical care. I also know that evictions can absolutely wreck people.

Remember you’re not alone and you have a community who can help, even if you’re not a member of a synagogue.

(Also, remember that JCCs and/or JFSs often have food banks. It’s okay to use them if you’re dealing with financial hardship. That’s what they’re there for.)

Here’s a list of agencies in the US and Canada.

maybe its 5 am and im stoned but i wish that there was more of a conversation about abusive friendships, people talk a lot about abusive relationships and thats important but like, 10 years of having an abusive best friend really permanently altered my ability to trust or relate to people and it took years for me to realize or admit to myself that it was abusive and like, maybe people should talk about that more, maybe if we talked about it more it would happen less, because no one deserves going through that, and i dont know if im ever gonna be normal about people again after that and that really sucks

Mmmm this be old art, but I've decided I'm gonna dust off an old oc of mine and add him to the hflverse :3c

This is Nathaniel, or Nathan/Nat! He's a "young" man who doesn't exaaaactly know he's an ancient eldritch deity, but gets the feeling that there's something...wrong about him, but he doesn't know what exactly. It doesnt help that he's lost a lot of his memory...

He's constantly on edge and is looking for something you to help keep him calm and stress free, cause when he's too overwhelmed, he blacks out and wakes up to total carnage surrounding him.

He'll be a yandere, but more of a pathetic, submissive and needy one. He will take action if he's not getting what he wants though and likes guilting people to get what he wants.

I saw a nikasani ship meme on pixiv and wanted to do one for Hazuki and her swords. I’m going with this one because it has more info but I’ll throw in some topics from the jp one and some other eng ones I found

Big vs little spoon

Most of the time, it’s Hazuki as the little spoon for both ships but she tries to be the big spoon when she’s asking for something. It works fine with Nikkari since he’s about the same height as her but it just makes Shoku laugh when she tries to be the big spoon with him

Lends vs borrows clothes

Hazuki can wear Nikkari’s coats without much of an issue and they wouldn’t look too big on her. But because her chest is bigger than his, they won’t button/zip up and wearing his shirts is impossible. She does give him her winter scarves and earmuffs when it’s cold since he (weak to cold) needs them more than she (weak to heat) does. Nikkari can’t fit her gloves/mittens though since his hands are bigger than hers

She can, however, wear the white robe Nikkari uses as a cape. It fits her perfectly, actually. This has caused some rumours about a ghost in the citadel when one night, she left Nikkari’s room to grab a drink while wearing nothing but the robe, then fled when she heard someone approaching

Shoku’s shirts fit her better but they’re still uncomfortable since her chest is still bigger than his!! She can’t wear his blazer or jacket since they’d be way too big/tall on her, but he likes seeing her wear his tracksuit jacket as an oversized coat

Shoku and all the other burnt swords are also weak to heat so he and Hazuki are perfectly fine in the cold. No scarf borrowing is necessary. Shoku rarely is unprepared when it comes to clothes (both his own and reminding everyone else), so in the rare occasion where the weather turns harsher than expected, it would be Shoku giving Hazuki his scarf

Names / Pet names

Hazuki drops all the honorifics with her swords as a point to assert her status, first overcompensating because she wasn’t sure if she was good enough to be a saniwa, then out of habit/confidence because she’s used to it. Usually sticks to first name + no honorifics, but there are exceptions

It’s only when she meets someone who calls a sword a certain way (Shoku and “Sada-chan”, Hori and “Kane-san") first that she goes along with it

So she calls Nikkari and Shokudaikiri by name without honorifics… in public

Both Shoku and Nikkari call her “Hazuki-chan” in public. Nikkari drops the -chan when they’re alone together and Shoku drops it when their relationship starts. Despite Shoku’s avoidance of PDA and their relationship being a secret, him calling her by her name like this tells everyone how close they are but he’s let it slip so many times that be doesn’t bother to catch himself anymore

Hazuki’s pet name in the citadel is Bunny and Nikkari calls her that when he’s playing around and trying to get a rise out of her. Shoku used to tease her with it as well, but now avoids it. Not only does it remind her of Nikkari, but also everyone she lost in The Raid

Hazuki calls Nikkari “Nika” or “Nikki” and Shoku “Sho” but these won’t appear in the HFL because I don’t write explicit scenes LOL. She sometimes lets them slip when they’re alone together though so they might come up idk

Aside from the names being shortened, she doesn’t call them any cute nicknames because I haven’t thought of any yet lol

Introvert vs extrovert

For the most part, Hazuki is an introvert with a limited social battery but she is able to step up as a saniwa when needed. She just needs time alone to recharge afterwards. When push comes to shove, she can give direct, no-nonsense commands and as she grows more comfortable in her position as head of the citadel and war general, her voice rises above the rest

Shoku is an extrovert in the sense that his social battery charges while being with other people, but he is rather subdued in the citadel. But on the battlefield? That’s his home turf and where he truly shines. He commands his team with ease and leads them with charm and charisma, and isn’t shy about expressing how much fun he has while killing

Nikkari is an extrovert in the sense that he likes playing pranks on other people. But he is rather subdued and calculating on the battlefield. He is able to see the ghosts that roam the citadel and especially the battlefield while the other swords can’t, so him being quiet isn’t tied to him being an introvert or an extrovert. He’s quiet because he’s living in two worlds at the same time

Affection through words vs actions

All three are bad with words lmao wow

Hazuki has her issues but even after she deals with them, she can’t communicate any deep feelings through words. Surface feelings? Sure. But most of the time, she’s expressions affection through touch (hand holding, arm touches, hair ruffles)

Shoku has a hard time voicing his feelings before the relationship starts but after going through so much trauma with Hazuki over the years, when everything settles down, he freely voices his affection and says everything to her he’s always wanted to say… when they’re in private, that is. When they’re in public, his love language is fixing her hair or clothes as an excuse to touch her, and him making sure she has enough to eat

Nikkari’s dumb. Yeah. I sat here for 5 mins thinking about how to describe him but he’s dumb. He could’ve just told her that he loved her and she would’ve accepted him!! But instead, he shows his affection by straight up fucjing her!! Pls!! My story got ruined three times ebcause kf this!!

Confession vs waiting for confession

Points wildly at the above pargagraph??? SCREAMS

As for Hazuki, both her relationships started because the swords initiated.

Shoku had to be the one who confessed first or Hazuki would be stuck in another Nikkari situation

Screams about bugs vs killing bugs

All three kill them. Sometimes Nikkari keeps them to creep people out with them but they get killed by Hazuki or Shoku pretty quick

If they’re a big enough bug, sometimes Shoku stops Hazuki from killing them so that he can toss them outside

Driving [horses]

Hazuki learned to ride horses at the same time her first swords did so they’re all proficient at horse riding

I am going to refrain from adding something about Nikkari talking about Hazuki practicing on him here

Hazuki soon learns to use a bow on horseback to backup her swords on the battlefield while commanding them. Despite the others imploring her to command them away from the front, she is determined to protect her swords and uses her goggle binoculars to warn them of any dangers in the distance. She also provides emergency healing while on the field with them

Who cooks dinner?

Answer is obvious here but, with the help of Konnosuke, Nikkari was the one who had to learn how to cook in the very first days of Hazuki’s saniwa career or all four (Hazuki + 3 swords) of them in the citadel would die of starvation.

Nikkari is a decent home cook. His meals are simple and edible, nothing really to complain about. When Hazuki is well enough to join him in cooking for the others, he learns from her to improve his cooking

They’re both not as good as Shoku, who thinks constantly about flavour combinations, but they’re decent and get the job done. When Hazuki starts spending more time with Shoku, she improves her skills as well

PDA

Nikkari is a fiend for PDA. He doesn’t care if anyone sees!! This is much to the bewilderment of Hazuki. For one, he didn’t even confess to her !! But he likes to fawn on her without putting his affection into words. EVERYONE !! KNOWS !! EXCEPT HAZUKI !! They’re both dumb as shit istg

When the HFL settles down, both Shoku and Hazuki avoid PDA and keep their relationship a secret but they like playing PDA chicken to see who’s the first one to break, drag the other into the nearest room, and ——

Overprotective vs chill

By nature, the swords are overprotective of their saniwa, full stop. But Hazuki is also very overprotective over all her swords, especially the ones closest to her

She can’t lose her family again.

Well.

Not for a third time.

Jealous vs chill

Nikkari actively pushes Hazuki towards Shoku because he thinks she’d be happier with him... even though he wants to keep her to himself, so much so that he keeps an entire section of the property just for the two of them. Even though he’s accepted that she might have a crush on Shoku, it does sting that she never smiled at him the way she smiles at Shoku. He might be jealous but he would never get to say it

As a sword, Shoku is used to sharing a master with multiple swords. As a retainer, he can accept that his master has multiple partners. As a partner, he does want her for himself.

More than jealous, he’d be hurt if Hazuki was in another relationship behind his back. He is willing to accept her holding affection for another person, but he wants her to let him know about their relationship first.

If the other relationship isn’t serious and they’re just playing around, this is where PDA chicken comes in. He knows she’ll always come back to him (uh… as of my current plans. There is a whole other arc here so I don’t know if Shoku is endgame or not!! Sorry!! But he’s definitely confident in her loving him!!)

I’d say Nikkari’s jealousy level is 50%? And Shoku 30%

As for Hazuki, more than jealous, she gets lonely if they interact with other swords more than her. When they were both around, I’d say her jealousy would be at around 20% since she could just hang out with the other if one’s busy. When she only had Shoku, it would be around 30%

Relationship experience

All three started with little to no experience LOL. Hazuki had a one-sided high school relationship that she was kind of pressured into but it wasn’t serious so she barely counts it as a relationship. Meanwhile, the swords have brand new bodies

AND I GUESS THAT IMPLIES NIKKARI WAS HER FIRST. I GUESS. WOW. DAMN.

Libido level

I will refrain from giving Nikkari 69% because at this stage in Hazuki’s career, she wasn’t really sending her swords out to train very much, resulting in a lot of pent up swords!! Resulting in a lot of rolling around with Nikkari!! Hazuki’s dumb. Or smart, depending on how you look at it. Fuck.

She may not have the strongest swords as a new saniwa, but she sure is getting a wild intro to the career

Anyway, Nikkari’s drive is pretty high!! I’d put it at 80-90% but even then, it seems a little low!!

Hazuki’s drive is around 60-70% but can be easily convinced when the right buttons are pushed. She does initiate with Shoku when she’s in the mood, but with Nikkari, he would usually have to bring her around. Not that he minds though, since he’s usually raring to go

Shoku would be around 60-70% too I think. But depending on how long he’s been away from battle, it can get up to 80-90% too

Awkwardness level

Nikkari -> Hazuki = a little awkward only when she’s depressed and he’s thirsty af lol. Otherwise, he’s usually able to get her to come around

Hazuki -> Nikkari = a little awkward when she doesn’t realize what mood she’s in but everything is solved by fucking apparently. Nikkari out here literally changing her brain chemicals

Shoku -> Hazuki = a little awkward at the start because he’s trying to get her to see him as a good sword. But they definitely grow more natural to each other later on. With Nikkari's interference, he can get a little awkward with her though

Hazuki -> Shoku = EXTREMELY AWKWARD THANKS TO NIKKARI. Without his interference, she’s a little shy with him at first but soon grows more comfortable with him

The stronger ship?

Having just finished the Nikkari x Hazuki story, I do think this is the stronger ship for her at this moment. Mainly because, so far in the HFL stories, I never really dedicated any time to the Shoku x Hazuki ship. Not as much as the NxH ship anyway. Which, again, was something unplanned and managed to change the trajectory of the entire plot

SxH will be coming soon!! But looking at the height comparisons at the top of this post, I feel like Hazuki could wield Nikkari a lot better than Shoku right off the bat (no I also don't know where this analogy is going so I will end it here)
