Y‘know I‘m usually not into shipping at all but, hear me out, TP Link x Hena (fishing pond lady)

Ok, so. Farmer boy is sad about never being able to see companion again. Country expects him to date the princess and fulfill the fairytale story despite them barely knowing each other and both knowing the city will never be his home. Actual Home Town still expects him to get together with childhood friend like they probably would have if nothing happened, but it did. Both of them changed, but most importantly, by growing into his destiny he outgrew the village. He’s not part of one or the other, but something in between, a wolf trapped behind wooden gates and stone walls. So, Farmer Boy leaves both behind and wanders (hey look it’s the post credit scene)

Riding across the country, searching for something do to, a problems to fix, a new destiny to be fulfilled. Farmer Boy ends up visiting the fishing pond for respite on his travels from time to time, just like it was a save haven during his adventures. Through those meetings, and with more time on his hands than before, they slowly befriend each other over all sorts of different things.

Genuine interest in that rolling game Hena made thats sitting in a corner. Both getting excited whenever Link beats another rolling game level, her making new levels and him beating them turning into a challenge. Oh your brother’s running a small shop at the edge of Faron? No way, my fam lives in Ordon, I even met him. Yea his soup still tastes like shit. Hey you gotta bring me some of that Yeti soup with fish sometime. Yea fishing is pretty cool. Let‘s compare fish notes. Woah that’s some rare guys you’ve got here. What do you mean your predecessor and maybe ancestor also managed to catch that mythically rare fish no one‘s ever seen in decades, that’s wild. Would be funny if we managed to do that too right? Haha, yea, that’s a fun thought. Yea.

Hey what was the price for canoe-fishing with staff supervision again

So they start doing that, but it’s not the right season so they prepare by scouring every lead they can find and Link riding across the country to collect as much info as possible on that fish, meeting in-between to compare and plan and just hang out together and maybe go say the fam and friends hi until summer arrives and they go out together on that canoe every day in hopes that maybe today they’ll finally manage the impossible. And that means more bonding time, during which Soup Brother gets befriended by Ordon villagers through knowing Link and also soup, and they realize that their own family member they haven’t seen in a long time has been doing the best they’ve been in a while thanks to the others‘.

But back to Farm boy and Fish girl, they continue canoe-fishing and bonding, and as the time goes by it becomes clearer that with each passing day they meet less for the fish and more for each other, and sooner than later summer is almost over and they still haven’t caught it. So they sit in that canoe together, maybe it’s even a sunset for that extra cheese if you’re into it, or not, and they go, hey, we had a good time. Promise this won’t be the end? And it won’t be.

…And if you’re up for even more cliche cheese on all that cheesy stuff, maybe right when that conversation happens, the fishing line suddenly gets pulled. Fast. No way?? They look into each other’s eyes and don’t hesitate before grabbing that fishing rod together, pulling as hard as they can, and there it is- the super mythical fish no one’s seen in decades. No way. No way. They got it. They actually- the fish pulls real hard and takes both of them + the canoe with them, swimming back into the pond and leaving them in the water. Ah well, that’s too bad. But now that they know it’s real and here, Link just has to keep coming back here after all so they can try again next summer. So, not that bad after all.

And in the meantime, they can maybe eat some soup with Ordon cheese and rare fish. :)

Also I want do simple for the change

Curtis looked nice with an apron there, but Syrah - he definitely won’t wear that apron `kiss the cook` you prepared ahahahah. Also foods in Whitney’s slumber party really banging it, if only I didn’t need to watch my calories intake (and diseases histories in my family lineage) - I’ll inhaled those perfectly cooked meat steaks, burger patties, french friends, cheeses and more! Also bag of chips sounds nice as well for warm welcome and nice barbeque >w<

Laverne really clings to Whitney ahahaha, very fluffy Llama kinda like a very warm and thick blanket that wrapped Whitney from his head to mid body with a very tight nuzzle there -> like many confused where Laverne's appendages where as it seems seeped inside to Whitney hahaha

Bernadette and the OP background character congratulating Prez’ that she didn’t turns to be were-spider this month, but Prez looks unhealthy (few waves of intense cramping and splitting headaches every minute of every day) - I really hope that she won’t be turned to be were-spider anytime, because that cursed transformation makes her uncontrollable unlike Monika when turned to be crow. Later on Prez looks healthy enough when giving a demonstration though.. so I think she kinda OK, and even if worse will happen (feels like want to enters period, I think the answer is for her taking the delaying period pills again -> the side effects could be much worse, but the most important thing is Prez could keep her mind and avoids to do things that uncontrollable for her (like, I know some wished for Leland to be killed by Prez in cursed form or something, but that’s not the answer as making Prez a murderer (even though we know how evil Leland is) will affecting her really greatly in bad ways).

Now Frederick’s time! Poor the tiniest prince with the tiniest voice and his worst enemy: terrifying skill of communication - and I try to react his interactions with CPC members in parts ; with the trio (Abbi, Syrah, Monika), Saffron, and Prez.

A) With the trio Abbi, Syrah, Monika: Frederick hesitated because he thinks he’ll ruin the good mood of them during the slumber party, but turns out they are also missing and wondering about Gwen’s too that hasn’t shown up since ‘the romantic, end-of-the-night rendezvous. Syrah’s comment ``We get it, you two lovebirds are probably making out every day and we’re not gonna pry`` makes me giddy in chuckles. But IG the misunderstanding with the trio due to Frederick’s reply in tomato face, ``I haven’t seen her at all! I’ve been locked in a dungeon by my dad ever since the gala!`` → made the trio think the reason that Frederick locked up is due to being grounded because something too intimate makes Frederick and Gwendolyn need to be separated.. <Hence the blushing face of the trio espc from Monika there>

Oh boi, if only that’s the case but the locked up is literal punishment by Leland to Frederick’s “failures” and to make sure he won’t mess things up again - This my attempt to find excuse of the somewhat seeming OOC-ness of the trio to not thinking that Frederick being locked up seriously, they simply misunderstanding things espc after Frederick outburst with red face telling that he never seen Gwen since the gala due to being locked up by his dad

B) With Saffron -> thanks a lot for being supportive, bro!

Sorry I have nothing much to say because it's distracted to Saffron's heart-shaped 'tattoo' - RIP Saffron's first date ;-;

C) With Prez -> sadly Prez still not grabbing the situation, but one thing I love is we finally have more deeper interactions between her and Frederick (like, I am counting the days when Frederick realizes from Prez retelling that Gwen shackled her own self-worth's opinion to him and his love - similar to what Lilyth does to Jackie) - she even saying things that total opposite of what Frederick used to hear (small, weak boy).

Well at least Frederick won't be throw up vomiting due to being 'flipped over by princesses' because he likely been days starved by Leland at the prison *smiling sadly in anguish*

=========================================== Theory's ramble portion - is about Frederick to his brothers

Frederick trying to explain that he ruined everything with Gwen (as he thinks he's the sole reason of all of her pains and sadness, when we know things actually more complex than that : blaming solely Frederick isn’t the answer) and there’s fights between Pastel princesses and Plaid princes - that he thinks because the awful thing that he did when first meeting Gwen (calling her ugly), but CPC already knew it - so it’s the reason why he got attacked when first meeting CPC

The trio still thinking Frederick misunderstanding things, but one thing is clear: he finally connected the dots of the reason Gwendolyn is the part of the CPC (ran down after crying heard that she’s called ugly - into the forest and stumbled upon CPC ‘really kind people that helped her in a lot of ways’ + Gwen confronted about it to him once already, but due to their poor communication skill - Gwen cutting the confrontation speeches while Freddie thinks she confronted him due to pulling off to cliff not the awful comment) and why CPC is so hostile towards him the first time they’re meet -> Agreed with comment that Freddie isn’t playing dumb during CPC intruder arc), he’s just truly dumb there (but to be fair on idiocy level, he’s smarter than Jackie because he realized what’s wrong about their love interest much quicker and also more aware of things around) TvT

Poor Frederick sprawled in the ground part 1

When Abbi reassure Freddie to chills out and forget everythings the night (even handed a bag of chips, that later on be comedic aspect as breathing bag for Freddie who got panic attack later on), Frederick stands up instantly and exclaimed there’s no time to chill - as Leland, Blaine, and Lance are on their way to Pastel palace to do something to the Pastel Princesses. He doesn’t know because purposely not getting in the plan, but I hope the conversations in the prison could helps Frederick to connecting dots which are; Leland want Frederick to stay back so his plan won’t be ruined anymore [but here we are with Frederick out there, the catalyst of Leland’s plan breakage], coming to the Pastel kingdom tonight is considered ‘an errand’ but there’s troop involved, everything that Plaid kingdom do is for power - the all-knowing power/the Omniscient Clam, the big event is tomorrow at Corduroy canyon and Frederick will be included.

The engagements were fake (told by Leland actually, and we know Blaine and Lance doesn’t give definite answer to how they actually feeling for the Princesses) -an act `of affections for few princesses`, their relationships for Leland is just some scheme for Plaid kingdom’s power grab → actually we know it’s more petty obsession to wrecking Jack

That’s one thing that Frederick (and us readers as well) could misunderstand, does Blaine and Lance really couldn’t care less about an alliance between the Pastel and the Plaid kingdom - or about Frederick? As at the Gala, CPC teamed up with Blaine and Lance to stop the bullies to harassing him.. but there’s concern which could make it or break it the piece of trust that Frederick to his brothers, which as the followings that Syrah said;

`Frederick's a part of the Plaid kingdom, and we'll rip the limbs off of anyone who interferes with the Plaid kingdom`

Because that statement will strengthen Frederick’s trust _if_ Blaine and Lance considers him as their precious little brother Poor, but will breaking the trust in dust _if_ Frederick spat out to not being part of Plaid’s kingdom anymore <which I feel the latter is likely that will happen due to me tend to be pessimistic, and Blaine that likely spat out that while Lance keep silent again/could he finally stands up for his lil’ bro?

-> Learning that CPC+Blaine+Lance might kill the bullies, Frederick fell to panic attack again and wondering if the bullies even still alive (imho doesn’t matter, as long the bullies out of the sight and never appears again)

I did like Harriet from Emmerdale and wanted her to get some sort of storyline but then it was "oh I don't love the guy I'm with but won't break up with him even though I'm in love with my ex and am trying to get him to break up with his fiancee to get back with me" which I just found a bit annoying but it's Emmerdale so.... and now she might die and Kim might die but Amelia and the baby will probably be fine despite it being way too early because it's soapland where people can regularly give birth at 7 months or less pregnant and both them and the baby are completely 100% okay with no health issues whatsoever.

She's always been my favourite character - she feels like a sort of character who's very unique for soaps, y'know? Especially since she's never really had a big family unit around her in the way most other characters do. She's really just got Dawn, who only came in a couple of years ago and isn't even biologically related to her. Her isolated-ness compared to other characters has always been interesting to me. And I find her relationship with her religion fascinating, too.

But the writers have really been doing her dirty for years. The main reason I stopped watching for ages in the first place was because I was angry that she FINALLY got a big A-list storyline where she was the focus (the Malone thing) only for the show to first neglect the storyline for weeks at a time, and then resolve it quickly without doing any real justice to her trauma or her mental health. There was so much to be explored there and it ended up being wrapped up after a couple of episodes. She was so ill and then suddenly she was just fine?? And at first it really seemed like they were going for an OCD storyline - her repeatedly washing her hands, saying she felt unclean, the compulsive praying... I was re-reading some of my posts about that storyline earlier and got reminded of that line she had when Dawn found her at the place they'd buried Malone: "I need to keep checking on him. You know, make sure he's okay. And I pray for him. And us." That is just TEXTBOOK OCD. But nope, it was swept under the rug after a couple of months when it could've been such a good storyline. Ugh. And then after she miraculously (no pun intended, lol) healed from her trauma, she just stopped appearing entirely for ages. Like, we'd be lucky to see her once a month. I don't think she had a single episode in June 2021. Hence, I stopped watching and have only got back into it now for the anniversary... at which point they now seem to be killing her off!

The whole Dan/Harriet/Will/Kim love square is just... sigh. Especially if it's her last storyline - going out as she lived: almost only ever getting storylines if they were about her relationship with a man. (I know the Malone stuff was technically also about her relationships with men but it was different enough IMO.) It's not really OOC or anything because Harriet has always been hopelessly self-destructive when it comes to relationships, so annoying as it is I can't say I'm surprised she's pining after the bloke who literally tried to kill her even though she's in a relationship with Dan, a decent guy. But it's just... sigh.

In some way, it would be depressingly fitting for the first time the writers let her be properly involved in one of the Big Event Weeks to culminate in them killing her off. -_-

And YEP about Amelia and the baby. That sort of thing in soaps always drives me mad. I remember when Chelsea in EE gave birth last year when she was... only about 6 months in, I think? And she and the baby were both perfectly fine and she could take him home within a few weeks and he doesn't seem to have any lasting health issues. ://

I really like how you portray the yanderes

Most of the other yandere fics just go apeshit murder or extreme stalking obsession

Seeing the reader a bit more manipulative (not to a yandere-like extent) is refreshing hehe

Yeah most of the time doing yandere things does require a certain level of OOC-ness for it to work, but then I can’t help but notice how all characters that are yandere’s start to blend together in terms of personality, where the only thing separating them is their name. Hence why I don’t really like to fall into those two categories.

Also what does help is the fact I am not masochist, at all. Most of the yandere stuff I see makes the assumption that the reader must be a masochist. I do like getting scared for the sake of getting that catharsis in the end. And that catharsis is by playing the yandere like a fiddle in the end. Or by beating them up. Which ever comes first. That, to me, is the ultimate satisfaction, hence why I write the reader the way that I do.

[the thoughts on canon-compliance you did not ask for.]

last night between 2 and 3 in the morning (look, i couldn’t sleep, got up to write, then got caught up, okay? don’t judge me for my terrible sleeping patterns please) i had a super interesting discussion with a few people on the hinny discord channel about the definition of canon-compliant-ness. i think this is fascinating because to be honest, before getting into the hp fandom, i didn’t even think this was something one could disagree about. to me there was what was canon, and what wasn’t. a very black-and-white sort of system. i’m finding that it’s not.

through the discussions that i’ve had both on my fics and other people’s fics, it seems that i can narrow down - in the hp fandom - three elements of canon.

i. the events of the books/films

now, as a general disclaimer, you can obviously argue about whether the films are ‘canon.’ you can also argue whether cursed child is canon. there’s a lot of elements which differ between those and lots of opinions about how to look at them. personally, i tend to ignore cursed child. as to the books v. films, i pick and choose what suits my story more. generally, that’ll be the books. but for instance, i’m writing a harry&hermione friendship one shot right now, and there are a lot of movie-isms in that story because that is an aspect that was more explored in the films. however, for the purposes of this post, i’m mainly considering the source material to be the seven books. nothing more or less.

having said that, to me personally, that’s what ‘canon’ is: the events of the story and the characters that gravitate around those events, as described in the source material. things like: tom riddle killing lily and james, or harry, ron and hermione rescuing the philosopher’s stone. anything departing from that is, de facto, an ‘au.’ the whole world of what-if scenarios: what if Harry was sorted into slytherin, what if dudley was a wizard, all of those, to me, are aus.

generally, both as a reader and a writer, those are not scenarios i’m particularly drawn to. my default answer to those what-if scenarios is: ‘well, if harry is sorted into slytherin, there’s no story.’ or at the very least, there’s no story as i know it, and if there’s no story as i know it, then i’d rather read/write original fiction. it’s obviously a very personal preference and there are exceptions to this preference. i loved the changeling [1] for instance, and love the self-aware style of dirgewithoutmusic’s aus [2]. but as a general rule, that is not my preferred genre.

now, aside from the what-if scenarios, there’s also the question of filling in the gaps of the story itself. like, i find it interesting that we only make tsunamis [3] is labelled as ‘canon-compliant’ because i get the feeling that a lot of people would disagree that a fic in which hermione is harry’s first kiss is canon compliant. but, by exploiting the silence sometimes left by the author and turning it to your advantage, are you writing an au? is a negative space canon? is silence canon?

again, as a matter of personal opinion, i would not push my definition of canon-compliance as including blank spaces. to me, as long as it does not contradict the letter of the text, adding in events to the books to suit your story (i’ll address character in point ii) does not make your fic an au. to give another example that was brought up to me regarding my own work, i don’t believe that the events described in chapter nine of castles [4] are au because they exist in a blank space of the books. the fact that harry didn’t notice the 1:1s between ginny and amycus doesn’t mean they didn’t happen, it just means that they’re not in the positive space described by the books.

ii. the characters/characterisation

(as a quick vocab note, please note that below, i’m using the terms ‘ooc’ to mean that the characterisation of a character in a fic is not canon-compliant. they’re synonyms to me.)

now, while the above was pretty straight forward, i believe that this is where i perhaps differ from the masses in my interpretation of what “canon-compliance” means. more i discuss with people, the more i realise that i don’t really think there’s a real ‘canon’ characterisation. or at least not in the big things. like, yeah, it’s canon that harry likes treacle tart, because that’s a fact. but anything that is down to psychology or perspective of the character is, to me, generally up for grabs.

as a human, i believe that there’s things that people do, events that they go through, that condition them to act a certain way. while there is a core to every human being, i personally believe that in life, anyone would basically be capable of doing anything, given the right circumstances. i’ve recently - rightfully - been told my writing is all about the power of choice in our life, the reasons why we make those choices and the people those choices lead us to be. for example, do i think i might murder someone tomorrow? probably not. do i think i might be capable of murdering someone in wartime? perhaps? i don’t know, that’s not the world i live in and my life choices have not lead me to find out the answer to that. however, my point is: to me, good ‘characterisation’ is down to the circumstances and choices outlined in any work of fiction. hence, good characterisation is essentially, to me, equal to good writing.

i often say that good writing could make me believe anything and i mean it. i don’t tend to gravitate towards these fics because these ships are not my personal taste but i genuinely believe that good writing could make me believe in drarry or rarry if it tried. it’s funny because over the course of the discussion yesterday on discord, this was brought up ‘well, no one tags drarry as canon compliant,’ and i’m kind of like, i don’t know whether or not they do because i don’t read it but if they did and none of it contradicted the events as detailed in the books, perhaps it could be? like, that would take really good writing (imo), but good writing has - on occasion - made me believe in dramione a couple of times, so why not? in ‘til the sirens come calling [5], good writing made me 100% believe that harry and hermione would have an affair together. in we only make tsunamis [3], it makes me believe that they had this quiet little relationship building throughout hogwarts that we never knew about.

now, though, i suppose the question isn’t: do i believe it? the question is: is it canon? and, i think that’s where i differ from most people because to me, it is. to take ‘til the sirens come calling [5] as an example, i believe the fic is an au because hermione marries victor krum in the end. that’s going against the hard fact presented by the epilogue, and thus makes it an au. but i don’t believe the concept of a harmony affair is inherently au, because nothing is inherently au, character-wise. it’s about how you write it. how those people get to that place. that’s what makes canon-compliantness, in my opinion.

for example, for that fic, truth be told, we don’t know what those nineteen years include per canon, so they could very much include an h/hr affair. and whilst i don’t believe that the characters as they are in the books would have an affair together, i believe that the characters as they are presented in the fic, with the events and hardships that they go through, definitely would. good writing, to me, is - in part - recognising that characters are moving on a spectrum and that whilst their decisions/actions might not make sense in book-verse, they make sense in fic-verse. good writing is convincingly moving your characters from book-verse to fic-verse, and it not feeling ‘off.’

if it does feel off, that is bad writing to me, and that is also ooc-ness/non-canon compliant. it means that for whatever reason, the writer has not successfully transitioned and explained said transition through the events outlined in the story. with the right prose, you could make me believe draco decided to take on a career as a ballerina dancer after the war, and it would still be ‘canon-compliant’ to me. on the other hand, i have read fics (i won’t name them because that would be shit and also i don’t keep track of my ‘bad’ reads) where harry, ginny, hermione, or ron all act according to book canon and yet, their motivations felt off to me and completely ooc because the writing didn’t successfully lure me in. specifically, there was a lack of character evolution that i found uninteresting. i read mostly post-war stuff because i want to see my characters grow up [6].

as a last, additional note on characters, i also think that the characters in a story only exist within the prism of how we view them. this means that to me, locking my own understanding of a character's personality as 'canon' is particularly difficult because my understanding of a character is unique. i believe there are as many harry-s or ginny-s or hermione-s as there are readers. so i think saying someone's interpretation of a character isn't canon-compliant is odd because i don't actually believe there's any wrong or right answer. as i said, do i believe it likely that draco would become a professional ballerina? no. but if that works within your understanding of his character as described in the books, who am i to say that is or isn't canon compliant? i'll admit, the idea makes me sort of lol though.

iii. tone

lastly, i’ve come to find (in potter particularly) that canon-compliance might include tone. as in: hp is a story that is a) written in a certain style and b) written for children/young adults.

regarding style at a), this is honestly the main reason why it took me 15 years to write potter fic, despite the fact that i’ve been a fan for even longer than that. i genuinely thought you had to write like jkr. and i, well, don’t write like jkr. i love the books, but i don’t even particularly like her style. i like: camus, and sorj chalandon, and sally rooney, and dirgewithoutmusic and copper_dust [7]. i have zero ambition to write like jkr and don’t particularly want to read stuff that is written like her stuff either. it’s a style that imo works for her, but it doesn’t work for me as written by other people. i don’t particularly think you need to stick to her style to be canon-compliant.

which brings me onto my actual point: b) hp is a story written for children. young adults perhaps, for the later books. it sometimes explores dark themes but the writing style, the tone, etc. is lighthearted enough that it appeals to a younger audience. there’s snogging but there’s no sex, there’s violence but the torture is mostly off-screen, etc. issues like sexual assault, substance abuse, etc. aren’t explicitely brought up in the books, although they would one hundred percent fit in a book about a war that wasn’t necessarily aimed at children. the question is whether this setting and tone is part of what we call ‘canon-compliance.’

honestly, i don’t know. i didn’t think so until it was brought up to me that castles might be a dark!au and i was like: maybe? like, if you want it to be? i know what i like to read in fanfic: i love the exploration of serious themes that were not explored in the books, or explored differently due to the fact that they were written for children. one thing i will say and insist on is that i don’t think castles is all dark. i actually make a point of having lighthearted moments in each and every chapter, even just a notch, because i am attached to the fact that life as a concept is a mixture of good and bad, and you could laugh at the funeral of someone you loved, again in the right circumstances. but yeah, to me the post-war world is dark. so if tone is part of canon-compliance, then yeah in that way castles (as well as most of the stuff i read, to be honest), is a dark!au.

as a last side note, i’m not sure what that means for my other, lighter stuff though. like are the wolf’s just a puppy [8] or slipped [9] more canon-compliant than castles? i never thought about it in those terms but perhaps? it really opens up a world of questions in my mind and i don’t really have the answers to them.

conclusion:

so in sum, as a reader, what i mean as ‘canon compliant’ is basically a) the events as described in the source material and b) the characterisation of characters as they are at the start of the fic. if character evolution is sufficiently justified and well-written in the following thousands of words that the fic has, then said characterisation can still be canon-compliant, even if the characters act different than they would have in the source material itself. i’m a fan of good writing and good writing can make me buy into literally anything. it takes me places that i've never been before and convinces me that those places are the ones i should be in.

as a writer, i hope that regardless of 'compliance,' whatever i write at least makes ‘sense’ to people within the universe, even if they don’t consider it canon-compliant, per se. i feel like i can’t really be the judge of that. from the discussions we had last night, i feel like there are as many versions of what is and isn't canon-compliant as there are people.

[6] as a side note and to take my own stuff as an another example, i totally agree that harry in castles isn’t harry in the books. i don’t think there’s much debate to be had in that assertion. i wrote him like this frankly because every other fic i’d read didn’t. they often had him sort of continue to be perfectly himself after the war, which i felt wasn’t speaking to me on a deeper level. imo, i think the war’s done a lot of scarring and the fic is about him growing into a new version of himself. so, to me, if i get a comment that says ‘i don’t think harry would act this way but i really love your writing’ it’s somewhat flattering but also confusing because i don’t really understand how one can enjoy the writing but not the characterisation. to me, they’re so intrinsically linked. what the comment tells me is: i think you did a very poor job at explaining character evolution and justifying character x’s [harry’s] choices but i still like your writing, somehow? i suppose that’s nice, but it doesn’t particularly compute in my brain. like, if the character feels off, it means the writing feels off and thus, why are you still reading? i appreciate all and every comment that i get but it doesn’t mean they always make sense in my own brain. if i’m honest, these comments often send me into an ocean of self-doubt about how shit my writing must be.

umm about the arslan again, you’re right; I’m quite sad even just reading your summary. I’d rather Arslan ended on the first cour too.. Though, on a side note, I think I’ve heard about writers who got very annoyed by the pressure from publisher and deliberately wrote uncharateristically..which is even more sad to think... Tanaka has been known as “Tanaka, the annihilator” (皆殺しの田中) since the 80s, so the fact that pretty much everyone died in the final book of AS was actually very *characteristic* of him.

“Good people and respectable people get killed unreasonably, that’s the biggest reason why wars are evil. That’s why I write stories in which characters die (a lot).” [*Idk if that was the exact quote but he said something along those lines in the afterword in one of the books of “Legend of Galactic Heroes”.]

so I guess it’s his principle as author & his story-telling style and we as readers should respect that.

The problem with the final book of Arslan Senki however was simply its *quality* as a novel. IIRC almost all characters who died in the last two books (vol.15-16) were killed either by fictional monsters or they just killed each other for dumb reasons (like Narsus/Alfreed vs. Hilmes). So no one really died in a war and more over most of their deaths could have been easily prevented if they had used their brain. Reading the final book did not make me think of how evil wars are, it just made me think of how dumb everyone was and how lazy Tanaka and his editor were (apparently neither of them cared to reread the previous volumes before writing the final book, hence the inconsistencies and OOC-ness). My guess is that Tanaka just lost his motivation for this series over the time and just didn’t know how to end it anymore. Personally I’d like to believe that he at least tried but it just unfortunately ended up in a mess rather than that he deliberately wrote the mess out of frustration :/

Anyway, it’s sad all the more because the first part of the novel was so good, but we can’t really do anything about it anymore anyway, so let’s just all pretend that the second part never existed and Arslan & his friends took back the capital, Arslan became King of Pars, Estelle never returned to Lusitania but stayed in Pars, and they all (incl. Hilmes & Irina) lived happily ever after :)

Anyway, I'm back! For the most part. The bulk of what I was dealing with is over, but not completely. My birthday was fun, and I'm considering that Edgar and [Trixie] Colette canonically jamming to MCR pic my birthday present bc... cherished song in my heart, and those two have a great dynamic that I can't wait to write more of. (And it came out the day of ;p)

Lastly, I won't get back to writing right away, bc I'm still tired mentally (that PfYP yesterday was really just a fun way to distract myself, hence the lack of edits and possibly ooc-ness, but I'm fine with the insanity of the piece so I'm leaving it, lol.) But I've also still got that list of requests that I'd like to dwindle down, so I'll get around to those too.

Thanks for being the first to respond to my request! :D Sorry this took a bit longer than I’d like, it’s been chillin’ in my Drafts with some other posts that I feel don’t meet my quality standards just yet (lol jk I have no standards). This is all over the place and probably more than a little ramble-y, so brace yourselves XD

I have made a post on territorial behavior, but it doesn’t actually touch on why they do what they do. This is a topic I have contemplated on-and-off for, but never made a consensus on which canon to go for.

What is established in my stories already is that Ghidorah destroys planets because it’s instinct to them. They hatched with this instinct, it’s not something they ever questioned on doing. They just DEW ET because it feels nice to indulge this impulse, like they’re doing what they’re supposed to do and fulfilling a purpose they seem built for. It’s fun and satisfying to them, thus encouraging them to continue following that instinct! Like the joy a cat has while hunting; they take pleasure in exercising what they’re built to do and so they’ll continue doing it even if they aren’t hungry, up until they get bored! Except Ghidorah doesn’t get bored of it, likely due to how much time it takes to get from planet-to-planet, star-to-star.

The territorial behavior they display towards each other is instinct as well. When there’s another Ghidorah trying to snatch their planet, they feel an angry impulse towards them. Like how I imagine any solitary animal feels when an intruder appears in their territory. As dragons, Ghidorah are a very prideful species and that pride has them refuse to share the destruction of a planet with another of their kind. It’s like insulting their abilities and taking away the pleasure of knowing they brought an entire planet to its knees single-handedly. That feeling of power is something desired in all three heads and it’s less power if you’re not doing ALL of the destruction. Also, if they allow another Ghidorah in on the party, that Ghidorah is taking away fun THEY could be having! They want the whole planet as their playground, not half of it, so this other Ghidorah can go f-themselves on a DIFFERENT planet!

And from a story-writing angle, we don’t need Ghidorah being a social creature swarming planets in an unstoppable army. Territorial behavior seems like a perfect excuse to avoid that level of pure OP-ness!

But instinct isn’t good enough for me in this post. This post isn’t nearly long enough! WHY does that instinct exist?

I personally lean towards it being a natural evolution of their kind (You do the experiment-by-evil-aliens angle on their origin so well, I feel I can’t tread on that lol). Perhaps their species were birthed from creatures who are naturally territorial on the planet they originated from and this territorial behavior carried over into present-day. But space is so vast and most of it is so empty. It lacks any clear borders and that empty space holds nothing desirable, it would be a waste to guard it. But planets do have that tangible border that they can mark and chase others from and are the real treasures that Ghidorah seek. It’s more efficient to set up territory one planet at a time long enough to have their fun little power-trip before moving on to another.

Perhaps their instinct for destruction is to eliminate future threats and competition that may spring forth if they allowed another species to go space-faring.

Their evil nature? That certainly contributes to why they want planetary destruction as well. But how can their evil nature be species-wide if I’m going the natural route? There’s a big set-back to this option. There’re plenty of violent animals in the natural world capable of terrible cruelty, and some individuals of certain species like humans and dolphins take sadistic pleasure in it, but can any of them be considered evil on a species-wide level? Perhaps our specific Ghidorah is unusually sadistic, psychotic, and violent even among their own kind. Yes, they all have destructive instincts to destroy any life-form outside their own species that they come across, but perhaps our trio of bois takes it to a whole new level? I’ve stated before that our trio refuses pregnancy and its limitations so much that they will resort to killing their potential mate if they have to, should they be on the losing end of their ritualized courtship battle. This is not a usual occurrence among their kind (lest they meet with extinction). Perhaps they’re a bit of an anomaly and maybe there’s even some Ghidorah out there that can ignore their destructive instincts and become a force for good? *Looks at GMK’s Ghidorah*

Granted, THAT Ghidorah was never meant to be a Ghidorah in the first place, hence the amount of OOC, so I dunno if I should even acknowledge its existence…

I don’t think I will. Ghidorah’s asshole-ness is so intense, it’s on a genetic level! There! That’s how it’ll be on the ‘natural route’. Natural evil.

Alternatively to this natural route, supernatural elements aren’t anything new in Godzilla. So this opens my second theory that Ghidorah’s species are of a more supernatural origin and that can give reason behind why they go around destroying shit. Ghidorah is often described as evil incarnate. The devil symbolism in the monsterverse with Ghidorah is very prominent throughout the movie. Not saying Ghidorah is the devil, but they clearly want to convey their demonic nature as being unnatural. Like how Mothra is practically a deity with reincarnation, and transferring power, and somehow influencing an entire lineage of chinese-female-twin-humans that each have a special, implied telepathic, connection to her and everything (try to tell me that happens naturally lol), Ghidorah and their species was perhaps made by the same supernatural forces that created Mothra specifically to cause the destruction of other lifeforms. Balance the good with evil.

Either way, like how even parasites have their purpose on earth, maybe Ghidorah’s destructive actions serve a purpose on a grand scale. Perhaps the destructive actions of Ghidorah is like the universe’s way of hitting the reset button on individual planets. Like how a wildfire destroys life wherever it goes, but in its wake, allows for a clean slate, for NEW possibilities to spring forth. Like how an erupting volcano can create a new island.

Ghidorah is a mass extinction event in the form of a living creature, wiping out life and leaving planets desolate, but in doing so, allowing new life to potentially start over in a new environment. They don’t stick around to know the hidden good in their evil, and yeah it sucks for those on the receiving end of this mass extinction, but the old has to make way for the new.

Oh, and Ghidorah’s just an asshole. That works too.

Anyway, nothing’s set in stone yet, hence why this is all over the place and got somewhat off-topic. My decision to make Ghidorah a species rather than a single individual was something I’ve contemplated on for a while but finally made official while writing ‘Brother, my Brother’. Aka, it was a recent decision. Therefore, I’m still working out the fine details and if anyone has suggestions, I’m always open for listening! I’m also still open to topic-requests for more Ghidorah/Rodorah post, so whatever you guys feel like asking, shoot it to meh! :D

I thought I was over of how bad s4 was but I'm not and it's now 4 am and I can't sleep. The thought that's making me loose sleep is why did they have to make Mary part of the team? It's just the two of them against the rest of the world, right? why did they have to love her and include her in the cases? Why can't at least Sherlock see how horrible she is? I know I'm being rediculous but it gets to me it really does

Yeah, I never understood why they went the route of making all of S4 essentially NOT about John and Sherlock. I liked the visuals of T6T and TLD, but Mary REALLY fucking killed it for me, especially the magical redemption arc they chose to give to her. The whole season felt really ooc for me, and Mary being more of Sherlock’s partner than John was REALLY rubbed me and many others the wrong way. The way the narrative was going, it SHOULD have been her being on the run FROM them, not working WITH them.

Because of this, I really, really feel like there is a false narrative at play here, that the entirety of S4 is being told like a blog entry (hence why they stopped the blog AND used the title of one of the entries to clue us into this fact) because of all the OOC-ness, inconsistencies, fourth wall breaking, “scene jumping” and the “fakeness” of Mary’s death and TFP. The season contains a sense of adventure, is romanticized (though in the wrong direction), and fantastical elements, just like the blog. I found it SO bizarre that Sherlock CONSTANTLY kept saying “I’m Sherlock Holmes!”… just like John’s blog would have done. And TFP for me is John’s TAB, so there’s already an alternative narrative. Anyway, this went way off topic, but you get me. John’s blog is playing out on screen. Why, I don’t know; perhaps to show the general audience that not having John and Sherlock in the picture together doesn’t work, since most of the entries are told as if John is standing on the sidelines watching events unfold – ergo making the season seem very not-our-show. Plus, calling the first episode “The Six Thatchers” after a blog entry on John’s blog and ENDING the season with Mary narrating is so telling to me.

Second part of your ask: I AGREE. It’s really weird to me, simply because we SAW John was essentially done with dating by the end of ASiB because he was happy with whatever he could get with Sherlock. And it took him TWO YEARS to mourn Sherlock before he decided to move on, and for whatever reason, Mary was able to establish that trust with John within six months (I presume she emulated what she thought John wanted, but she’s a professional manipulator). He only stayed with Mary because he didn’t think Sherlock wanted what John wanted, and perhaps also some manipulation on Mary’s part, convincing John that Sherlock would never love him like she loved him.

So then when John is “cheating” I find it really OOC, if only because I just can’t see John ever wanting to get involved with anyone every again after the heartbreak of both Sherlock and Mary. Though, I still hold the belief that it’s really Sherlock John is texting in T6T, and we are told otherwise because of the false narratives (given that I think that the episodes are being told like a blog entry, it’s only natural to assume lies about the things truly happening are present). And maybe it was “just texting”, fine, but it just doesn’t really fit John’s character to me unless that person is Sherlock or unless John is doing another plan behind everyone’s backs with Mycroft (ie. the texting is coded and E is an associate of Mycroft). He has serious trust issues, even an emotional affair with some rando on the bus just doesn’t jive with his character arc they’ve built up over three seasons.

I don’t know. People say it’s in his character, but I just have a really hard time seeing it, especially since he knows the kind of person Mary is (killing Sherlock for trying to tip off John), like… I can’t imagine he would do that again. Mary’s complete shift from the character she was in S3 is what’s tipping me off the most about a false narrative, and as such we can assume the other characters may not be who they seem to be as well, at least in my opinion.
