He sees her, a shadow through mirrors, a glimpse in the corner of his eye when he looks for her sideways. She is just barely a figment behind the thin veil that surrounds her small bedroom.

But it grows clearer with time: the beige shag carpet is worn where she paces, her eyes are dim, hollow and much deeper set. She’s put away all her toys and the dwarf bookends that look a little like Hedgewart. She barely sleeps through the night.
