A key component of Pelvic Balance is the learning to appreciate the key differences between the male and female pelvis and its relationship to functional movement.
It is also important to acknowledge and appreciate that the pelvic floor is an ANTI-GRAVITY muscle. That means that anytime we stand up (Bipedalism) and are in this gravitational field the pelvic floor is automatically engaged.  Also, the pelvic floor is deeply connected to our feet. The stronger and more balanced our pelvic floor strength, the better able our foot to pelvic connection is resulting in the improvement of balance, agility and speed. The rhythm at which your pelvic floor contracts and relaxes is driven by the harmony of your breath. How well the body inhales and exhales and how well the diaphragm contracts and relaxes is intrinsically connected to pelvic structures. The better the rhythms the better the function of your bipedalism.
Think your pelvic stability needs work?

Did you know... 🤔 ⠀ A dermatologist can usually tell your age just by looking 👀 at your décolletage. That’s because as we age we lose collagen and elastin and the sun ☀️ is the biggest culprit in fine lines and wrinkles. Sadly 😔 this area of your skin is what’s mostly exposed to the sun and most neglected 😞 when doing our skin care routine. ⠀ 😱 Well, I don’t know about you but my intentions are to fight 🥊 the signs of aging as much as possible for as long as I can! ⠀ One great tip is to use a really good 🧴sunblock with a minimum of 30 spf daily not just when it’s hot out or when going to the beach, but DAILY and stay away from harmful ingredients. (See yesterday’s post for more on this.) Be sure to reapply every two hours. Also staying 💦 hydrated plays a huge role. So drink up ladies! 💧 All you need is half your body weight in ounces each day. Start slow and add to it everyday until you reach your desired amount of h20. 💦 Most importantly take a good collagen supplement. 💊 Because as we age the collagen and elastin in our bodies breaks down, so the support system for your skin disappears and the skin begins to sag inward and wrinkle. 😬 (DM me for a really good suggestion on this supplement.) ⠀ For more amazing tips 💡 and tricks like incorporating super foods into your diet to help prevent or minimize the wrinkles you may already have and caring for the skin you’re in, join me for a live streaming 📹 video tomorrow afternoon on my FB fan page at 2pm PST! #linkinbio ⠀ Will you be joining me for this? . . . . . #skincare #decolletage #hydration #superfoods #healthandwellnesstips #greenliving #healthytips #spf30 #tiptuesday #waterislife #sunblock #allthingsgreenliving (at San Luis Obispo, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAGqg7LBmH5/?igshid=ndnpsm3qfhe2

YOU GOT GYMTIMIDATION?  DON’T WORRY, I’VE GOT THAT TOO!
“Gymtimidation” is a word used to refer to the feeling of dread, fear, or general intimidation we feel when going to the gym. So many of my Private Training clients when first coming to me have said it’s a feeling of gymtimidation so intense that you can’t even make the first step in signing up for your membership. Other times, you find yourself paying for the monthly fee and standing frozen outside of the door each week.  AND don’t think that I and other “fit” people don’t have the same feelings…Oh I do, always have.  I have just developed my own ways of coping. I am going to try and help you make your plan!
A survey of 2,000 Americans conducted by OnePoll found that 50% of people experience gymtimidation, which apparently takes on many forms. Almost a third (32%) reported feeling intimidated when exercising in the vicinity of someone who is in great shape. And 17% felt wary when working out in front of someone of the opposite sex. (This one is totally me…)
And then there’s the sheer number of fitness classes to choose from at some gyms, which 48% say they feel overwhelmed by. And forget cancelling your membership and taking a nice solo run around the block instead: 36% said that running outside was more dreadful than starting an entirely new exercise routine.
Then there are those that are so gymtimidated they don’t seem to have stepped foot in one at all: 31% said they felt anxious when thinking about trying to get in shape, and 37% said they had never worked out and were too out-of-shape to start an exercise routine.
The first step: An iron-clad plan!
When you know exactly what you’re doing and why, it’s much easier to stay focused on your targets. You stop worrying about people around you and they start to fade away. Much of the stress of the gym comes from not knowing how to start with various exercises, so why struggle with the initial fumble?
Decide what you want to accomplish with your routine and find out what you need to do to get there. For instance, if you’re looking to lose fat and “tone up”, you might focus on building muscle and reducing calories. Taking a look at your family's health history will quickly demonstrate where you should start and make the most significant changes (Family history of high cholesterol and/or heart attack/stroke).
Being well prepared: Know what to eat and drink before your gym experience so you feel energetic and well-prepared. Make sure you bring water with you to hydrate yourself too. You don’t want to be the person left panting at the side of the treadmill because you haven’t planned for rehydration!
Practise at home: Start getting fit and healthy at home with some handy online videos. By doing so, you will be able to use this as a strategy to prepare for your working out at the gym. If you’re worried about using weights and other machinery, watch videos to get an idea of how to use them first. There are plenty of introductory videos on Youtube!
Start slow: You don’t have to walk into the gym and start performing like a professional athlete! Start with machines and routines you feel comfortable with. As your confidence grows, you can begin to branch out.
The Second Step: Look for Ways to Boost Your Confidence!
THE BEST WAY to start is by getting a good night’s sleep.  Feeling energetic, self-assured and ready for the day makes immediate change.
Next, create a playlist you can listen to and pump yourself up with. Putting those earbuds in and enjoying some tunes stops you from focusing so heavily on the people around you.
When it comes to choosing gym attire, try not to get too bogged down on what you think you “should” wear. Ultimately, the best thing you can do is make yourself feel comfortable. I add a baseball cap to my gym attire which acts like blinders, allowing me to focus only on what is right in front of me and not alllllll of the people around me.
If you’re too worried about what you’re wearing, you’re not going to be focused on crushing your workout. Check that your leggings don’t fall down when you’re squatting. Try to go for a good balance of practicality.
Since more people means more to worry about for most gymtimidation sufferers, check when your gym’s “peak” hours are before you go. Going outside of the times when the location is most likely to be busy will save you a lot of excess stress.
The Third Step: Give Yourself Extra Support!
Another way to feel more supported is to go with a friend. If you’ve ever tried to increase your motivation you know it’s a tough task to accomplish alone. Having your friend along with you immediately gives you someone on your side.
You’re less worried about what other people may think or say to you, because you know you have your buddy system in place as back up. Plus, having your friend with you at the gym is a great way to motivate you to keep going. If you fail to turn up, you’re not just letting yourself down, you’re disappointing your friend too.
Plan B: Try an Alternative!
One positive thing to emerge from the confusion of the last couple of years is there are now more ways to get fit than ever before. Join my online live-streamed BodySTRONG class! If you want to improve your strength and build muscle, bodyweight exercises are a fantastic option.
Virtual classes can help you to get over some of your fears about working out in public, particularly if you’re exercising with people over video chat. You get the comfort of your own home, combined with the ability to experience what a “group” exercise session might be like, and work on proper technique!
Alternatively, you could skip the gym entirely and look for other ways to boost your fitness. I’ve got a brand new private training studio for the one-on-one experience. OR Start with just being more active. Hiking, and cycling are excellent ways to improve your physical health. Join an outdoor running group, or get involved in a sport with your friends, like baseball or tennis. There’s no limit to what you can try out. Anything that gets you active is going to benefit your health.
Gymtimidation Can’t Control You!
The best way to overcome the stress of gymtimidation is to remind yourself of why you’re at the gym in the first place. You’re here because you want to improve yourself, and anyone who doesn’t respect and applaud that really isn’t worth your time. Keeping your vision in mind and remembering that you’re doing this for yourself – NOT anyone else – THIS is MOST important.
It’s also worth remembering that most people probably aren't as aware of you as you think. Ultimately, most of the people you encounter at the gym are going to be too focused on their own goals and self-esteem issues to worry about you. Lol–Trust me. Because that’s what I will be doing while I am there!
Unless you’re intentionally causing a spectacle by throwing equipment around, or taking your clothes off, you probably won’t draw anyone’s eye for longer than a second or two.
Everyone starts somewhere, and the people around you don’t expect you to be a pro. No one is. Give yourself a break and take the time to learn. Everyone starts somewhere.
You’ve got this!
