I NEED TO REQUEST A TIMELORD! READER X 10TH DOCTOR!!!
I feel like there’s just not enough on the app.
could be just like cute adventures, two time lords chatting, idk you decide <3
(so sorry for the wait! This was super fun to write, thanks so much for the ask 👌)
A Madman In A Box
Rating: G
Pairing(s): 10th Doctor & Time Lord!Reader
Tags/TW: Time Lord reader, reader is gender neutral
The Doctor was unlike any Time Lord you'd ever met.
For one, he seemed to have no idea what he was doing at any given moment. He leapt headfirst into danger, and almost seemed to relish in leaving an impact. The two of you had travelled to hundreds of different star systems, and it seemed to be his mission to leave each place a little better off than when you'd arrived.
It was baffling, but as you spent more time travelling space and time in his antiquated Type 40 TARDIS, you began to realize that this lifestyle fit you more than a life on Gallifrey ever would.
Today, the Doctor was taking a bit of a break. Instead of scouting for a new adventure to insert himself into, he was camped out in the console room, lying on his back and taking apart... Something.
"What are you doing?" you asked, sitting in one of the jump seats. You tended to hover whenever the Doctor began... Tinkering - once he'd tried to correct the chameleon circuit and nearly ejected the entire console room into space.
He sat up, promptly knocking his head against the bottom of the console. "General maintenance," he muttered as he rubbed the forming knot on his forehead, "Have to make sure the old girl is in tip top shape."
You smothered a snort. "I think the 'old girl' was out of commission before either of us were even born," you said, and he answered you with a huff.
"It's not like they had the newest model just sitting empty in a museum," he said. The TARDIS gave an indignant hum and he patted the central column, saying, "Besides, she's the best machine I've ever operated."
You raised your eyebrows and nodded, crossing one leg over the other and reclining in your chair.
After a moment, you asked, "Why did you do it? I mean, you hardly passed your exams, whatever made you think to go off on your own?"
He paused. "I just hated being there. My first face had never liked being cooped up on that dust ball-"
"Your first face?" you interrupted, "I never heard that bit. You left before you had even regenerated, even once?"
He nodded, saying, "I don't know what it was back then, maybe I was going stir-crazy, maybe I saw the writing on the wall and decided to try and avoid it on my own, I don't know. But I left, and I'm better off for it."
A question arose in your mind and you quickly shoved it back down. The Time War was a topic that - the two of you had agreed - was best left alone, and you respected that. It was an open wound in the universe, and you'd never seen it more plainly than in your best friend.
"What do you have in mind for the next trip?" you asked, and his face lit up.
He stood up from the floor and tugged one of the view screens over to where you could see, flipping a switch and displaying a star chart. "So, you know the forest of Pitinia?"
"The bird sanctuary?"
"Yes. Well, in the next system over, the same people have built the biggest aquarium in the universe."
You sat up in your chair, a smile dancing across your face. "Have you got ginger beer somewhere?"
He met your gaze with a wide smile. "You read my mind."

Hi! Can I send in a request for being another timelord who travels with the 9th doctor and Rose Tyler being like a sister figure to Y/N?
A/N- Yes yes yes!!! I have actually had an idea for something like this just hadn't written it yet.
Readers Pronouns- She/Her
Word Count- 3.9k
Summary- (BASED ON S1 E6) The Doctor and Rose find themselves in a bunker in Utah full of alien artifacts. They are shocked to find some of these artifacts are alive and not here of their own free will. You just so happen to be one of these artifacts.
The Slightly Behind Timelord
Tumblr media
I used to keep track of how many days I'd been chained and experimented on but the days quickly turned into months and the months turned to years. I've long since lost hope of ever returning to Gallifrey. It was in shambles when I was last home, the war was constant. I was a coward and stole my parent's Tardis to escape from having to fight. A stupid coward who didn't check if it was in working condition to only have crashed and ended up imprisoned by a man who I know as Mr. Van Statten. I should have stayed and fought then at least I would have died with dignity.
I have refused to talk since my arrival. I may have betrayed Gallifrey by fleeing but I refuse to make things worse than they already are there. Nevertheless, Mr. Van Statten comes and talks to me every single day asking about about my ship. They have dissected the TARDIS piece by piece. I secretly hope it burns them alive. When Mr. Van Statten inevitably gets nothing out of me he sends in a man an orange suit to torture it out of me. It never works but they do not stop.
Today was different they had a new man with them, he was restrained and they strapped him to the walls like me. I wonder if this was a new torture strategy.
"Look here we got you a friend maybe now you will do some talking," Van Statten says cheerfully.
I look at the man with pity knowing they are going to torture him as well. Van Statten's men unchain me and drag me to the other side of the room. I don't even fight them anymore I don't have the energy to spare.
Van Statten powers up his inhumane X-ray and says, "Smile!"
The man screams in pain as the red beam scans him and Van Statten smiles in glee at the results.
"Two hearts! A binary vascular system! Here I thought you were special," he shouts a glare in my direction and the man chained up widens his eyes.
The man doesn't look at Van Statten but puts his focus on me, "Where are you from?"
"No point in talking to her she hasn't spoken since we tore her from the rubble of her ship. She put up quite the fight when we started dissembling her ship screaming you are killing her. Then not a single word," he sighs in disappointment shaking his head at me. "I would get rid of her now that I have you but I need more information about the ship."
I suck in a breath they kill without care here, I wonder if everyone on this planet is like that. The man chained is certainly not from here maybe he can get me out. However, he is looking at me like I am unreal so perhaps not.
If looks could kill Van Statten would certainly be dead from this man's fiery gaze, "You're not a collector you're a scavenger."
"This technology has been falling to earth for centuries I am simply just making use of it. Oh the advances I've made from alien junk you have no idea, Doctor," he grins but I quickly interrupt.
I gasp, "The Doctor! Has Gallifrey won the war! How are you here?"
Van Satten's grin turns to a full-blown smile, "First you make the Dalek talk now my longest surviving exhibit! You truly are something!"
"there- there is uh... a Dalek here," I whisper afraid to speak their name.
The Doctor looks at me eyes full of guilt and astonishment, he still looks at me as if I am not here.
"Thank you again Doctor so much for getting her to talk keep her talking for me why don't you? Since you all seem so scared of said Dalek, I think I will go back and try to have a word with it. I find fear is the best motivator to get people spending, " Van Statten is practically glowing with joy and I wish I could smack the joy right off.
The Doctor wrestles with his chains trying to break free, "You can't go in there with it! Now that it knows that I am here it will come looking for me! No one on this planet will be safe!"
His screams fill me with fear if I could throw up right now I would but they hardly ever feed me so there is nothing to throw up so I end up hyperventilating. Mr. Van Statten ends up shocking the Doctor and his angry words are replaced with painful screams.
I struggle against my chains screaming at the top of my lungs, "He tells the truth! You don't stand a chance against the Daleks! The war lasted centuries on Gallifrey here you will be lucky to last day!"
Van Statten looks at me in awe, "Wow full sentences maybe you will prove useful after all these years."
Nothing I say to this psychotic man will ever get into that thick skull of his, I would facepalm if my hands weren't shackled to the wall.
Alarms sound and angry red lights flash, my heart sinks, it's to late.
The Doctor's tone shifts from begging to demanding, "Release me if you want to live."
Van Statten quickly makes work of the chains holding the Doctor down and runs for the door.
The Doctor points to me, "Forgetting someone?"
Van Statten waves him off, "We haven't the time!"
"You need all the information you can get on Daleks, let her out now!" he shouts leaving no room for questions and Van Statten quickly does the command.
My legs feel like jelly as we run into the elevator I can't remember the last time I've walked unchained let alone run. I felt so out of place, especially in a ratty hospital gown.
"You have to keep it caged," he shouts to Van Statten's lackeys.
"Doctor it's all my fault," a blonde says apologetically on the screen.
A guard informs us that he has sealed off the exits and the lock as a million combos no way the thing's getting out. I shake my head at his idiocy I just hope this blonde girl is also a timelord, the more the better.
"Daleks are genius they can figure out a billion combinations in ten seconds flat." The Doctor informs.
The Dalek quickly figures out how to exit the moment I see it on the screen I cover my mouth in horror.
"Don't shoot I want it unharmed!" Van Statten shouts.
"Are you that dense! You would rather a whole planet die than lose a collection piece!" I shout at the man who held me captive for years and swing a punch at his face which earns me the pleasant crunch noise from his nose.
two guards pull me away from him as I smile for the first time in ages. The Doctor doesn't seem to notice the commotion shouting for the blonde whose name is apparently Rose to run.
I look back to the screen to see the Dalek destroying the screen connection. I feared the sucker would go right through the screen and appear before me like a Weeping Angel. I stumbled backward but the guards just tugged harder to keep me in place. I groaned in response to the uncomfortable position.
The Doctor's head whipped in the direction of the noise in high alert, "let her go! You are focused on the wrong alien here!"
The guards look to Van Statten for his approval, "She's got one hell of a right hook, I'll give her that... drop her.
The guards took this a little too literally and dropped me directly on my ass, as the others make their way to the computer.
"Oh my god, it's draining the whole power supply," the woman with us gasped.
"It's not just the energy it's the whole internet, it knows everything," The Doctor states.
"Cameras in the vault our down," the woman relays.
"It's going to absorb everything," I sigh
"We have to kill it now!" The Doctor shouts.
We watch soldiers die again and again through the surveillance cameras. It's Gallifrey all over again I can't escape it, but maybe I can help this time instead of running away.
"Tell them to stop shooting!" Van Statten says but I am seriously praying this is a very cruel joke.
"But it's killing them!" The woman shouted back.
"They're dispensable that Dalek is unique. I don't want a single scratch on it!" he shouts to the lifeless soldiers.
I clench my fists, "You are asking me to hurt you! You are putting lives over a killer," I shout getting in his face his guards instantly stand up preparing for me to strike him again which probably wasn't far off thinking.
"He's an idiot we need to focus," The Doctor interrupts and I return my gaze to the map as they discuss alien weapons.
"There has to be a way to keep it alive, maybe we trap it down there-"
The Doctor cuts him off, "Leaving everyone trapped with it? Rose is down there. I won't let that happen, have you got that?"
That seems to shut Van Statten up for once thank god.
"Who is Rose? Is she from Gallifrey? Did you two come here to stop the last Dalek? Does that mean Gallifrey is safe again?" I ramble many questions at once.
"Doesn't talk for years now you don't shut up," he glares at me like this whole situation is somehow my fault.
The Doctor frowns, "Leave her be Statten." He ignores my questions and tells them to arm all the soldiers with alien weapons it's the only way to beat it. Then he directs the soldiers on how to kill a Dalek always aim for the eye the soldiers shut him down.
"I can't help but think everyone on this planet is insanely dense," I sigh.
The doctor smirks, " There are some good humans out there, you wouldn't know being stuck here with these imbeciles."
Van Statten's glare burns into The Doctor I feel the heat of the glare just from the proximity.
"We have visuals again," the woman informs and all of our eyes dart to the computer.
"It wants us to see," The Doctor growled.
We all stare in shock as the Dalek uses the sprinklers to electrocute and kill all the soldiers at once.
"Perhaps we should consider a different strategy like abandoning the place," Van Statten nervously stumbles over his words. I had never seen him like this he always seemed confident when torturing me. If this were any other situation I would be overjoyed to see him like this. I wish I was the one to make him feel like this, not the Dalek.
The woman glares at him, "Except there's no power to the helipad, sir."
"You said we could seal the vault," The Doctor interrupts their glaring showdown.
"There's not enough power!" she shouts.
"There's emergency power we could redirect it to the bulkhead door," The Doctor defends.
"It would take a computer genius to get through the security codes!" The woman says frustrated.
"Good thing you got me," Mr. Van Statten smiles.
"You wanna help?" The Doctor asks shocked.
"No there is no way he wants to help! It is physically impossible he has no empathy. This has to be a trick!" I shout.
"It's not out of empathy, I don't want to die as simple as that. This could have been avoided if you talked in the first place. I would have known what it was capable of years ago." He shouts back at me.
The camera turns back on and the Dalek's voice fills the room, "I shall only speak to the doctor."
"You are gonna get rusty," he responds to the Dalek who still getting soaked by the sprinkler system.
"I don't think now is a great time for jokes Doctor," I whisper.
"I fed off the DNA of Rose Tyler. Extrapolating the biomass of a time-traveler regenerated me," the Dalek speaks.
"What's your next trick," the Doctor rolls his eyes.
"I have been searching for the Daleks," it responds.
"Yeah, I saw downloading the entire internet. What did you see?" He saunters around the table.
"I searched your radio signals and telescopes," it responds.
I anxiously pick at the scabs already forming from when I punched Satten. What will happen if this Dalek happens to find more Daleks? What if he isn't the last one.
The Doctor seems completely unphased, "and find anything?"
"Nothing, Where shall I get my order from now!" It screams loudly.
"Nothing but a solider without any commands," the Doctor teases.
I look at him in shock he can't possibly think it's a good thing to rile up at a Dalek more.
"Then I shall follow my primary order, the Dalek instinct to conquer and destroy," it responds.
"What for! What's the point!" The Doctor shouts his facade slipping. "Don't you see everything is gone, everything you stood for."
"Then what should I do?" The Dalek actually seemed to have an emotion other than hatred. Many emotions. I would have felt bad for it if not for all they have done against Gallifrey.
"Alright, then. If you want orders follow this one. Kill yourself," the doctor responds coldly.
I look up at him with wide eyes this is not the Doctor they spoke of on Gallifrey the mischievous one who was too smart for his own good. This Doctor was cold and harsh with his words.
"The Daleks must live on," the Dalek shouts in a familiar rage that all Daleks have.
"The Daleks have failed! Why don't you finish the job and make the Daleks extinct! Rid the universe of your filth! Why don't you just die, " The Doctor shouts back such cruel words that I am worried that the Dalek will retaliate immediately.
"You would make a good Dalek," it responds and I think I have officially heard the worst insult anyone could make toward a Gallifreyian.
I put my hand on the Doctor's arm, " I am so sorry."
The Doctor does not look at me he looks broken but yells to Statten, "Seal the vaults!"
"She's still down there," the woman whispers to the doctor.
He calls Rose on his phone to get updates on her location he cares so much about this Rose she has to be a Time Lady like me. I can't imagine the Doctor having much time to visit other planets after the war.
He relays to her that he can't stop the gate from closing she has to run. He waits as long as he can and apologizes before shutting the vault. He frantically asks if she made it but his face quickly sets into a deep frown.
He quickly pulls off his earpiece, "I killed her."
Van Statten says, "I'm sorry." I have never heard him say sorry before I haven't heard the word sorry in so long it sounds foreign.
"I was supposed to protect! She was only here because of me! And you're sorry? I could have killed that Dalek in its cell but you stopped me."
"It was the prize of my collection!" He defended.
I shook my head hard, "You valued your collection over life you are disgusting."
"Man goes to space to be part of something greater," the Doctor spits.
"Exactly! I wanted to touch the stars! That's why I kept her here!" he points to me. "If you think about it, it is all her fault none of this would have happened if she told me how her ship worked."
The Doctor shook his head, "You just wanted to drag the stars underground! Of course, she wouldn't talk you enslaved her and experimented on her! You are about as far from the stars as you can get!" His angry screams turned to sorrowful sighs, "And you took Rose down with you she was nineteen years old."
"She's so young can she not regenerate?" I ask sadly.
"She's human," he sighs.
I can't understand what a timelord is doing traveling with humans I understand now is not the time for questions.
The elevator doors open and the Doctor is quick to yell at the man for leaving his companion behind.
The monitor turns back on the Dalek holding its weapon to the back of the girl, "Open the vault or Rose Tyler dies."
The doctor gasps, "You're alive!"
"Can't get rid of me that easily," she teases.
"I thought you were dead," he shouts.
The Dalek interrupts, "Open the vault!"
"Don't" she begs.
"What use are emotions, if you will not save the woman you love," the Dalek states. Curious what does a Dalek know about love?
"I killed her once, I can't do it again," he states as he presses the button.
This is most certainly not the Doctor who was infamous in Gallifrey how long have I been missing. I hear Van Satten shouting but none of it really matters anymore. The Dalek will kill us and I have been missing so long that no one back home will know the difference. I am not going down without a fight. If my life didn't mean something hopefully my death can.
I adjust my posture to appear taller, "You collect all these dangerous aliens so where are your dangerous alien weapons?"
The woman shouts at me "All the weapons are in the vault!"
"Only the cataloged ones," Van Statten's employee smiles at me. I can't help the blush that appears on my face I can't remember the last time someone smiled at something I said.
The Doctor nods his head at me, "Good idea." He still looks at me like I'm a figment of his imagination and will disappear soon.
We left Van Statten and his assistant upstairs and went to the basement for weapons. The doctor tosses the weapons that are useless but finds a gun which relieves some of my anxiety.
"Stay here! I'll come back for you as soon as I handle the Dalek!" He demands
"You are out of your mind! I've been locked here for years and you're the first timelord I've seen here! If you think I am letting you fight a Dalek alone you're mental!" I shout back it feels strange screaming at anyone after refusing to speak for so long even weirder to scream at a war hero from my own planet.
He takes a deep breath trying to control his rage, "I don't have time for this! I can't have you dying while I am saving Rose!"
I shove him, hold my head high, and walk right by him, "I have more regenerations left than you old man."
He jogs to catch up to me, "No convincing you?"
"God you sound like my parents when I stole their Tardis," I groan as we jog up the stairs.
He smirks, "I stole a Tardis myself once."
"Now that's a story I have to hear," I grin wide.
"Another day," he sighs as we quietly enter the room with the Dalek and Rose.
The Doctor steps in front of me "Rose get out of the way now!"
"No, I won't let you do this," she frowns.
I stare wide-eyed at her she can't be saying this does she know of the war on Galifrey why wouldn't the Doctor have told her.
"That thing killed thousands of people!" He shouts.
"It's not the one pointing a gun at me," she snaps and I kind of want to throttle this girl.
"I've got to do this the Daleks destroyed my home! My people! I've got nothing left!" He shouts.
My head whips to face the Doctor, "What do you mean nothing." My voice shakes no matter how hard I try to remain calm. "We didn't win the war? How are you here then?"
I turn back to the Dalek, "Did they win?"
I stomp towards the Dalek and the doctor pleads with me to wait. Rose looks at me nervously I guess I can still look scary in a hospital gown and no weapon of my own. When she steps out of the way I freeze in my spot I've never seen a Dalek out of its exoskeleton.
"What is it doing?" This has to be a ploy, one they use to seem weaker then snap. Though a Dalek would never do that they need to feel superior or they are nothing.
"It's the sunlight that's all it wants," Rose defends the Dalek as it reaches its hand to the sun I back up. This is not normal behavior.
The Doctors' gaze follows, "But it can't..."
"It couldn't kill me or Van Statten it's changing!" Rose defends yet again. "And what about you Doctor what the hell are you changing into?"
I whip to Rose, "You have no right! You have no idea what these Daleks did to our home!"
"Our?" She questions.
"Why do we survive?" The Dalek asks. "I am the last of the Daleks."
"You're not even that, you absorbed Rose's DNA. You are mutating," the Doctor explains.
"Into what?" it responds.
"Something new," he replies.
I frown I am happy that there are no more Daleks but this is truly a Dalek's worst nightmare.
"I am sorry," The Doctor sighs.
"isn't that better?" Rose asks.
"Not for a Dalek," why am I feeling sorry for the Dalek they destroy everything it's their goal. I can't help but relate to it when we have been stuck in the same prison for years... I thought about burning this whole place down myself.
"So many ideas, so much darkness. Give me orders! Order me to die Rose," the Dalek says pained.
She shakes her head, "No I can't."
"This is not life! This is sickness. I shall not be like you. Order me to die. Obey! Obey! Obey!" The dalek screams and I can't help but step a few feet back the words reminding me of hearing the constant battlefield noises out my childhood window on Gallifrey.
"Do it," she says.
"Are you frightned Rose Tyler?"
"Yes"
"So am I, Exterminate." The Dalek floats up and prepares to self destruct as Rose and I run away from it.
I fall to the ground as I watch the Dalek explode all the adrenaline I once had fades out of me. I look up to the Doctor, "What do you mean you have no one?"
His pitiful gaze that he sent me when he first found out I was Timelord made sense now as he responds, There's no more Gallifrey... no more Daleks. The whole planet gone."
I can sob " I should have stayed home. I should have never ran away. If I stayed at least I would have gone with my family." I turn to the doctor but can barely see him through my tears. "Is there really no other Timelords?"
Rose quickly gets onto the floor and rubs my back, "hey you never know! The Doctor thought he was the only Timelord left but here you are! Plus you get to constantly prove the Doctor was wrong not many people get the oppurtunity."
I sniffle, "That's true, and I do love proving people wrong."
"There you go," she soothes. "We will get you a good cup of tea my Mum always says tea cure anything," She helps me to feet.
"You are really good at this comforting thing. Is she always this sweet?" I ask the Doctor.
The Doctor seems to have glossy eyes as well but hides his emotions well, "Yeah, that's why I keep her around."
"Hey!" she shoves him.
"The grief is very heavy right now but I am thankful to be surrounded by such light that could even turn a Dalek's cold heart warm.

you know, I like the timeless child thing. to me, now that it fits into canon, it works. the doctor we know (and that the doctor themself knows), is like a construction of the chameleon arc. only the life the doctor has lived, from childhood onwards, is real. there are no false moments.
we have had 60 years of the doctor learning and growing and changing. the facts of the doctor have been immutable. they are from the planet gallifrey, in the constellation of kasterberos, etc etc. we have seen the timewar and gallifrey coming and going like someone doing the hokey kokey. we know the doctor's grief and the doctor's story.
to learn that all of that is a construction based on a forced regeneration to childhood, and uncountable lost memories that obscure lifetimes of pain and torture, well that is an easy concept to rail against. it makes the premise of the show a lie, the bildungsroman a farce.
but I like it.
we learn it through the eyes and the voice of the master, who has spent his entire lifetime orbiting the doctor like a twin star. in it, he discovers that his childhood is a lie and he takes it out on the doctor, on gallifrey, on the universe (because he can no longer be to the doctor, what the doctor is to him).
it is loud and it is dramatic and it is angry. in the master's reaction, I see the fan reaction.
It is anger and it is dismissal. The master sees that the doctor (inadvertently) has changed the DNA of the timelords, and so he destroys them and remakes them as cybermasters in his image.
I don't think we've really seen the doctor respond to it yet (I'm working off memory here ngl).
But the doctor has spent their life being a mediocre timelord, being a rebel, an outcast (sometimes president). They needed the master's help to get through school.
Idk there's just something in realising that the doctor was set up to fail in the academy, in timelord society, because they're not really a timelord, but the base model. But throughout the series, they have been held to the expectations of one, with no accommodations made for the fact that the doctor cannot do things like a timelord can.
the doctor can regenerate seemingly unlimited times, but the council still tortures 11 with it. the doctor is not a genetically modified shabogan, but is still treated like one.
sure, the doctor was something else, someone else (still called the doctor), before we and the master knew them, but that's not our doctor.
our doctor is the byproduct of a hidden experiment, turned into a timetot.
What's the line?
'he'll never make a timelord'
If we see the memories again, they're just more fodder for angst (because we really cannot keep hashing out the time war). But our doctor is still our doctor, and we just get to see them learn that they're still themself. That the doctor is still the doctor, no matter who or what they really are.
and then maybe they'll learn to not hold their shitty telepathy in such direct contrast to the master's.

"what traumatic thing did Chris Chibnall do that everyone is screaming crying throwing up at just one mention of it?" well he made the doctor Important :/ just look at that silly little guy he is clearly just a random runaway mf the other timelords are kinda embarrassed of
why is everyone so addicted to taking away “just some guy” status (gender neutral) from their main character. My fervent wish for doctor who is that gallifrey is back for good and just hangs out in the background. The doctor never really visits because the time lords make fun of them 24/7 for being a loser who is too obsessed with humans

“nine would never do this” “nine isn’t afraid like ten” oh my goddddd they are literally the same alien but they come from different circumstances and are defined by different things:
nine comes from loss. the time war and the destruction of gallifrey is new for him. therefore, from his perspective, he has everything to gain - the main one being rose. that’s why he genuinely has to decide between losing rose and saving the world, because he hasn’t gained the world. if anything it’s a backdrop. but he has rose.
what nine needs to learn is that things and people can change - himself included. he is far less of a pacifist than ten because his morality is giving things a chance, ie the nestene consciousness in the very first episode. this is also the crux of the dalek episode, rose’s point is not entirely “guns are bad” but “it’s changed”. you see this change in the difference between how nine and ten treat cassandra, specifically in how cassandra shows empathy for the sick woman.
ten, in comparison, has gained. he has rose and a family to have christmas with. and that means he really only has things to lose - again, the main one being rose. because nine came from nothing he was essentially content enough to just have rose in his presence and have her choose him. ten now sees his relationship with rose in longer terms (i cannot stress enough that nine was not counting on his survival but was very accepting of his death, so he’s basically just elated to still be alive and to have rose reciprocate his feelings before he regenerates) and therefore has to recognise that he will inevitably lose her one day.
nine is not thinking about “the curse of the timelords” because he exclusively thinks of himself as a survivor.
it’s the fear of loss that really separates the two characters. because ten’s morality is actually pretty similar to nine’s for most of s2. people say that his “you get one warning” speech from school reunion is a prelude to time lord victorious but it feels much more like nine to me. he has compassion, for the cybermen and even cassandra and the werewolf, but he doesn’t really offer to save anyone with the frequency he will in later seasons. when it comes to the wire, the devil, and the daleks (aka the main three that threatened rose) he’s ready to kill them with limited preamble.
but then he does lose rose and he cannot bear it. he loses her and then murders a bunch of children, gets called out, and then goes pretty much the complete opposite way because he cannot bear any more loss. think about it: nine hears the ENTIRETY of satellite 5 get massacred and is horrified but keeps going. if ten had heard that he would be a screaming wreck.
"ten is a coward" is literally the ENTIRE point? some of nine's last ever words are "coward, any day" because he is sick of being a killer. and i actually fundamentally disagree with that action of his, but i get why it matters. because it shows he changed, and that's not what he believed when we first met him. he thought he was broken and that humans were a bunch of stupid apes, and by the end he is deeply in love with a human and knows he was fantastic.
it is therefore not surprising that davros is the doctor’s worst nightmare because he comes for two regenerations: he breaks nine when he says people can change, but you changed them for the worst; he breaks ten with the reminder that people have lost their lives for and because of him. so you get this pure trauma response of ten offering actual fascist davros safety and yelling at tentoo for "committing" genocide (and tentoo likely reverts back to that nine-era morality not only because he's "born from blood" but because he's actually born from gain - he got rose back).
ten is also a tragedy (where nine is not) because he is ultimately, utterly, completely defined by loss. nine was resigned to his fate (everything has its time and everything dies) and ten was born from hope and love, which systematically get ripped away from him. he was born wanting to live, specifically with the woman he loves, and he doesn't even get to die in the same universe as her.
also the whole "nine would never gitf" ten wouldn't be ten gitf if it was written properly but may i remind you that a couple of hours before he kissed and died for rose he was also blatantly flirting with lynda with a y? "ten was disrespectful he made rose act as a dinner lady" and nine let jabe ask HIM if rose was his prostitute after he’d called rose his plus one. they are not healthy aliens when it comes to people they like!

not gonna lie saving gallifrey was such a boring asspull to bring other time lords back in the mix. & the way the time war was portrayed took all the genuine horror out of it. like, think instead about how interesting it might have been to bring in gallifreyan refugees or something as a way of having time lord stuff to play with without undercutting the horror of the time war and the the doctor’s genocide. honestly the fact that gallifrey got brought back at all kills the really interesting implications of the doctor being the one to singlehandedly end the war, & what that means for their character. and it also kills the horror of the end of time, and how to bring gallifrey back, in any form, would bring with it all the horrors of the time war, war crimes and weapons to terrible to be described, with names like the nightmare child. and in one episode, they just. bring it back and everything is FIIIIINE. the doctor never committed genocide, bringing gallifrey back has no real repercussions the likes of which were implied in the end of time. (like, imagine the creations of a society like the time lords primed for war. even if all were stripped of weaponry, consider the terrible knowledge of such things that might be unleashed, the repercussions of such a war on time lord society & thought.) give us the skaro degradations, the horde of travesties, the nightmare child, the could-have-been king with his army of meanwhiles and never-weres. like, show us the hell that the doctor himself said the war had become by the end!! the doctor only takes the gun from wilf when he realizes the time lords are returning. that holds meaning!!
like, imagine if they actually HAD explored the full implications of how the time war had been lampshaded in previous episodes, gave us a full arc of the doctor dealing with the fallout of the timelords returned, weaponized and wielding horrors unimaginable. bring back the rani! explore the full implications of the doctor’s willingness so commit genocide upon both his people and the daleks. what was so terrible that the doctor decided that for the universe to live, both must die?? there’s so much to work with in that idea alone!!
or like mentioned, give us gallifreyan refugees! surely not all died or were trapped, surely there were other time lords, if even a few. and like, i know that house thing kinda explains that away as “any remaining time lords got eaten by the house” but frankly, i just think that if that’s the excuse you go with as to why there’s no other time lords besides the doctor &the master until gallifrey returns, you’re handwaving it. that could be fascinating!! you could tie it into the audio dramas, or the novels, give us characters from those, bring back characters from classic who! hell, you could bring in the valeyard as a doctor from a timeline that spooled out of the time war, a vesion of the doctor who was never meant to exist, and who practically doesn’t.
at the end of the day, i’m just never getting over the wasted potential of the time war in nuwho. it makes me feel absolutely bonkers, because there’s so much there!

🎭 for any of the Gallifrey characters
HEADCANON MEME
🎭 A headcanon about what they lie about
(Sticking to characters I haven't written for in the series for obvious reasons, but oh man the Headcanons I could write for my boy the General.)
NARVIN
Narvin has lost so much in the process of becoming the man he is today, but something even he's not entirely comes to terms with his most intangible loss: his ability to lie.
As a former member of the CIA, lies and falsehoods should have remained second nature in his new role of Renegade Timelord. But with newfound courage comes newfound honesty. Something about the horrors of war have stripped them all away.
Narvin can really only lie in the moment now, and only ever small lies. His honest truth- what he thinks of the coming horrors, how little he truly believes he can impact the future of Gallifrey, the full scope of what they stand to lose- bubbles to the surface like boiling oil, threatening to spill over and destroy everything he clings to on his travels across the stars.
ROMANA
Romana considers lies a necessity both evil and kind. She must lie to protect her people, she must lie to protect those she loves. She lies to herself so she can keep going, even in the face of everything she's lost, and she must lie as a weapon to fend off the universe. Such is the role of President.
LEELA
Leela is fundamentally incapable of lies. She may dip her toe into the weaponised diplomacy of Gallifrey from time to time, but it sits uncomfortable on her skin, like tar. Hers is an honesty wielded with brute force, another link in her armour against a planet she both loves and despises. A reminder that she is, despite everything, despite the years behind and ahead, always Leela.
BRAX
Everything. Anything. Brax hasn't paused to take a breath or speak the truth since the day he was born (loomed?) Even his stark honesty is woven with all the little things he won't ever say outright, all the thoughts and observations held tight by his other selves. Brax is a hoarder of lies. He considers it one of his best qualities.

Talk about doctor who and I'll give you a cookie PLEADE PLEASEPLEASE YOURE SO COOL AAAAUGHH AAUGH AAAAAAAAAUUUGGHHH
beetle was this you. is this you. anyways. you totally asked this when I was at post limit I'm responding to it now.
I don't care who says what about gallifreyian. I like to imagine that the way they speak and the words they use are bigger on the inside than out. so speaking to someone using a tardis translator will lead you to hearing "blue" while a timelord would be saying "light gray blue that's reminiscent of spring beds" or something like that. but only in one word. I like to imagine that the reason the doctor seems so autistic to human standards is because they take a lot of stuff at face value when people say things. On Gallifrey it's "Hey long time no see! It's nice to chat with you! I'll catch you around but I lets not actually plan on meeting up anytime, okay?" in like three words, that comes across easy because of the way you build on your phrases and the ease of being blunt in their language, but on earth it's "Nice to meet up! See you later!" And it's simply that. The doctor can't understand that it's still the "nice talking to you but let's not make any plans" so he just doesn't catch it. and like just the social ques. Gallifreyians will say everything but like humans DO NOT they rely on experience and other nonverbal forms of communication ONTOP of verbal communication and that's just TOO MANY THINGS TO WRAP YOUR MIND AROUND as a timelord. So it just LITERALLY gets lost in translation. like 12 is super rude because of the loss of nuances through translation from gallifreyian to english. anyways. they're still autistic on gallifrey tho. I think maybe she just can't wrap her head around some of the other stuff. maybe he has a speech impediment that makes it hard to get big thoughts across so they end up slightly rambling sometimes. maybe there's an ableist layer on that that rambling is often annoying but it has to be dealt with IDK. I think if there is a speech impediment a decent chunk of timelords would have them it's just a common disability. I have lots of thoughts about how Gallifreyian works it's neat to me. I don't care who says what in canon I like my thoughts. I'm so smart. anyways gets hit by a firetruck as I exist the building

you’ve seen all of chinballs era right. do you mind explaining what the flux was bc it seems like it might be important for rtds new era
uhhhh I skipped those flux episodes but the flux is the Doctor getting a bunch of people killed again despite their best intentions but what's new they do that every other tuesday
the basics you need to know for continuity (brace yourself now for the dumbest shit you're about to read in your whole life) is the Doctor is "the timeless child" ie the first ever discovered being that has regeneration powers and Timelords as a species actually only exist after experimentations with the timeless child's DNA was used to create them. the doctor, being the first/original has actually regenerated millions of times before and been multiple genders and races but For Some Reason doesn't remember who they were before the First Doctor when the show began.
So the Doctor is not just another Timelord and they are not even from gallifrey. it's a complete overhaul of the entire show's mythology. The Master (sacha dhawan) found this out somehow and revealed it to Thirteen in the season 12 finale to fuck with them and now they're having an existential crisis. That bit in the 2nd special where the donna doppelganger says to Fourteen "you don't know where you're from" is in reference to that. Fifteen's era is likely going to be about the Doctor searching for who they really are and where they really came from. Ncuti Gatwa has already said he drew from his own diaspora experiences for the role.

Rooting For The Anti-Hero {Dhawan!Master x Reader}
Summary: Perhaps all The Master needed was a companion. TPOTD Cannon-Divergence
A/N: I HAD THIS IDEA AFTER SEEING @death-by-sc0tland’s POST REGARDING DHAWAN!MASTER SAYING TO YAZ ‘IM FUN TOO’ , SO TY FOR THE INSPO
Tumblr media
Travelling with the Doctor was wonderful. It was eye-opening, full of self discovery, amazing and most of all dangerous. That was ultimately why you took a step back all those years ago. You’d met The Doctor in their tenth self, and travelled with him for a bit. But found the lifestyle too much for a late teen/young adult. You wanted to experience human life. Normal human life, before you missed that chance. You’d had a few more run-ins with the Timelord throughout your time on Earth, meeting his 11th and 12th self. But still you chose to stay put.
And now, being older and wiser and feeling more accomplished with your life on Earth, you found yourself wrapped up in another one of The Doctors adventures. You found out this was her 13th self. She appeared to have picked up some more companions along her way, and built herself a little TARDIS family. What she least expected was you asking to re-join her.
“Could I… I don’t know-“ You shrugged, playing with your hands as she stood in the doorway of her ship. “Maybe I could join you again?” You asked, as she stayed quiet, staring at you, which made you feel like you’d overstepped. “Only if you want me to, I don’t want to intrude-“
“Yes.” She breathed out, as you looked back at her, seeing a smile on her face. “Of course you can!” She nodded. “I’d love it.”
And that’s how you ended up a meeting The Master.
“If it isn’t (Y/N) (L/N)… You just couldn’t stay away from her could you?”
He stood before you all, eyeing you all up on the plane that was threatening to crash any second.
“And of course, she welcomed you back with open arms.” He glanced at The Doctor. “Building yourself quite the team.” He looked at you all, but you noticed something shift in his eyes. What was it? Envy? Sadness? “And now they’re all going to die, because of little old me.” And as quickly as that look came it was gone.
You all, of course, ran into him again, this time with his Cyberman army, and the discovery that Gallifrey had been burned to the ground. When The Doctor returned to the spare TARDIS, she was on her own. The Master no where in sight.
“What happened?” You asked, as she looked tired, piloting the ship away from the explosion as she ignored you. “Doctor, The Master-“
“Is gone.” She snapped, as you recoiled slightly at her tone. You furrowed your brows.
“Did you try to-“ You began but she slammed her hands down on the console, as everyone in the room jumped at the sudden noise.
“He’s gone!” She yelled, anger evident on her features as you silently nodded your head, deciding to leave her be. You didn’t know what had happened, nor what they spoke about, or even how she felt about her home being burnt. Again.
That was when you felt The Doctor pulling away. The only person that could seem to talk to her was Yaz. It hurt. Knowing you’d spent time with her before, and helped her through a tough time in her life when she was 10. But you came to the conclusion, you’d served your time for her. You’d been there when she needed, and now what she needed wasn’t you.
And now there you were stood outside The Masters cell at UNIT. Why? Curiosity.
“Has The Doctor sent you to keep an eye on me?” He quipped, raising a brow as he slowly approached the cell bars. “Are cameras not enough?” You stayed quiet, observing him. “It’s hard isn’t it.” He narrowing his eyes. “Being tossed aside.” You furrowed your brows at his words. “Knowing she doesn’t need you anymore… Just like her other little pets she dumped back home.” He sniffed as he stood directly a few feet in front of you, staring through the bars. “Nothing to say? No smart remark about how she will always need you?” You didn’t budge, keeping your composure as he clicked his tongue. “You’re no fun.” He sighed.
“Don’t you get bored?” You asked, finally speaking as he raised a brow. “Doing the same thing over and over again… For what? To one up The Doctor?” He suddenly smirked, taking another step forward, his chest close to the bars.
“What about you? Do you get bored, (Y/N)?” He quipped back. “If I remember correctly, you left the Doctor once before… To go back to little old Earth… Experience life.” He laughed slightly. “And yet-“ He let out a breath. “There are humans who would kill to be you.”
“I left because I wanted to. I know when something has run it’s course.” You told him, slightly accusatory in tone as he hummed in thought.
“And here you are.” He began to laugh, clasping his hands together as the cuffs jangled from the movement. “Still latching on to The Doctor. Hoping that maybe things will go back to the way they were… But now… There’s Yaz.” He was trying to get under your skin. “Yasmin Khan, the bravest human of them all…” He taunted as you held your ground, simply blinking at him. “If I had empathy I would say it’s endearing…”
“Empathy?” You repeated, narrowing your eyes as you took a step closer to the cell. “See… I think you do.” You raised your chin a little. “Somewhere inside… Buried beneath all that anger… I can see it.” The Master kept your gaze as he stayed silent, keeping his lips in a tight line. “You don’t want this. Not really. But it’s the only way you know how to cope…” Suddenly, he lurched forwards, his fists banging on the bars as you jumped slightly. He almost snarled at you, but instead chose to grin.
“You know nothing.” He spoke lowly. “Oh, dear little (Y/N)…” He softened his gaze. “Can you hear that?” He turned his head slightly as you looked confused. However, suddenly an explosion was heard down the hall, with sounds of pain and shooting. “I believe that’s the cavalry…”
And that’s how you ended up in 1916 Russia… With The Master and The Doctor. Both in glass chambers as The Master began to execute his plan. You watched, feeling helpless as you didn’t know what to do.
“Forced regeneration, Doctor. To force you... to regenerate... into me.” The Master declared as The Doctor looked panicked, shaking her head.
“You wouldn’t.” She wavered, fear evident in her eyes.
“Master, stop!” You tried, stepping towards his glass chamber. “You don’t have to do this- If you want to be The Doctor, you don’t have to do it this way!” You cried, but he just stared at you, wide eyed as he manically grinned, before suddenly a familiar regeneration light appeared causing you to squint, covering your eyes and step back. Both of the Timelords yelled, as they felt excruciating pain erupt from within.
“Doctor!” You called, hearing the sound of the TARDIS, beginning to materialise. After a moment, the light disappeared, as you looked to see The Masters old body slumped in the glass chamber, your eyes travelled to where The Doctor was stood, as you saw someone kneeling, rushing to them, opening the chamber as you leant down, praying it was The Doctor… Somewhere inside…
“It worked.”
You felt your heart stop at the voice, as they lifted their head, slowly standing as you took a step back, seeing it was The Master… In place of The Doctor…
“I am… The Doctor.” He breathed out, voice wavering slightly as you looked at him in shock.
The TARDIS finally landed, as the doors flew open, revealing Yaz as she looked at the two of you in shock and anger.
“Where’s The Doctor?!” She exclaimed, as The Master smirked, turning to face her.
“Oh, hello Yasmin Khan.” He greeted her as she scowled, stepping towards him.
“My Doctor.” She reiterated. “Where is she?” You swallowed the lump in your throat.
“She-“ You began. “She’s gone, Yaz.” You breathed out as she shook her head in denial.
“Gone. Really gone.” The Master continued. “Forever gone. Don't...don't worry. You'll get used to me.” He told her, as he walked towards the TARDIS, taking a half step inside as he turned back to face you both. “Everyone will. I still need a companion to ask and... bask in my brilliance.” He raised a brow, eyes shifting between the two of you. “Come on, you two. Let's go on an adventure!” He clapped his hands together, but neither of you moved, as he lowly added: “Don't make me ask twice. I'd hate to have to bring you down to size.”
You flared your nostrils before walking towards him, as Yaz frowned, grabbing your arm, stopping you.
“What are you doing?” She asked, eyes wide.
“If he wants a companion… I’ll give him a companion.” You uttered lowly, gently pulling your arm away from her as you headed towards the entrance of the ship, sending Yaz a glance that said ‘come on’.
“Good choice.” He smirked as he entered the ship, both of you following behind. “Now… Where do we want to go?!” He rushed to the console. “Come on! Let's save a civilisation! Let's correct history! Rescue a sick animal!” He grinned, as he reached out, the TARDIS seemingly zapping him as he recoiled. “Ow! What was that?! Some sort of dirty protest? Unless you want to be consigned down a black hole for eternity, you'd better behave!” He threatened. “I am the Doctor, and you will obey me.”
“Then act like The Doctor.”
The Master paused, narrowing his eyes as he turned on the spot to see you stood defiantly at the bottom of the stairs of the console.
“If you want to be The Doctor so bad… Then start acting like her.” You continued as Yaz looked worriedly at you. The Master laughed slightly at your words, shaking his head.
“I’m sorry-“ He began. “What do you want from me? Longing gazes from across the room-“ He looked at Yaz. “Gentle touches, hand holding… Telling you everything is going to be ok because I’m going to save the day…” He slowly began to approach you. “Or what about keeping secrets? How about we start there… Containing a rage so deep in my hearts that it bubbles-“ He gestured with his hands. “To the surface every now and again… You’ve seen it. You both have.” Yaz stayed quiet, watching your interaction with the Timelord. “It’s time to accept it… I am the Doctor now.” He leant forwards, his face inches from your own. “I… am… The Doctor.”
He pushed himself back, shaking his head as he grew irritated.
“I need clothes. Try to escape or touch anything, I will kill you both.”
You watched as he left, leaving you and Yaz alone as she let out a panicked breath.
“What are we going to do?” She asked, as you narrowed your eyes, before turning to her.
“Did you hear what he said?” You asked quietly, as she furrowed her brows. “Oh Yaz… This runs deeper than The Doctor…”
When The Master returned, he was dressed in multiple different things from each Doctor, which weirdly gave him a less menacing appearance, but you weren’t daft enough to ignore the fact he could kill you at any second.
He rushed to open the doors, as you both watched, peering from behind him as he revealed two planets at war, fire and explosions emitting from both.
“Oh, lovely. Gold star and a sticker.” He spoke. “That's how you stop two sides warring. Destroy them both.” He explained as a drone suddenly appeared, zoning in on The Master. “Oh, hello. I have a message for all your remaining news viewers. I am the Doctor. And I caused this. See? No-one to stop me now.” You felt a rush of anger flow through you, he was damaging The Doctors name… Yaz obviously felt the same as she launched herself at him, pushing him with a yell out the ship, quickly closing the doors. You looked surprised at the girl, as she ran towards the console.
“We can’t leave him!” You cried. “Whatever he’s done, we need him there to reverse it!” She didn’t listen as she began to press buttons on the console. You sighed, peering back at the doors.
“I’m gonna regret this.” You muttered under your breath, as you turned on your heel, rushing to the doors as you opened them, Yaz calling after you, as the TARDIS began to make a familiar wheezing as it disappeared.
You stood, stranded on the planet, with the Master who was currently sat on the edge of a cliff, playing a flute. He had his back turned to you, as you slowly approached. He didn’t turn to look, as you hesitatingly sat next to him, staring out at the view as you stayed silent. Finally he stopped playing, as you peered over at him, raised brow.
“Where’d you learn to play that?” You asked, breaking the tension.
“When you’re thousands of years old, you pick up a hobby or two.” He simply responded as you nodded slowly.
“Never could get it.” You shrugged, still staring out. “Was forced to learn the recorder in school. Was rubbish at it.” You laughed lightly. “But you win some you lose some.”
“Why did you stay?”
You licked your lips as you shrugged, clearing your throat.
“I was bored.”
He furrowed his brows as he finally turned to face you.
“Plus, haven’t been to a mushroom planet before.” You added, gesturing to the giant mushrooms. “Thought there may be some fun-guys around.” You said as the man beside you raised a brow.
“Did you just make a mushroom joke?” He asked, confused.
“Yes, yes I did.” You nodded proudly as you laughed lightly. “I’ve been told I use humour to cope.”
“I erased The Doctor… And you’re sat here with me… Why?” He looked at you suspiciously. “I’m assuming her other little pet is off trying to scramble for help, why aren’t you with her?”
“Because I can see when someone is struggling.” You told him sternly. “And Master, I think you are struggling…”
After what felt like hours, the TARDIS finally reappeared as you both got up from your seated positions, as he cracked his neck, stalking towards the ship with you behind. As the doors opened, you saw Yaz stood at the console.
“I’m sorry.” She spoke as you looked at her. The Master narrowed his eyes.
“Are you? Truly?” He asked as she forced a small smile.
“Came back, didn’t I?” She retorted as he seemed content with her answer. He walked round the console as he looked at both of you.
“We could have fun, you know? I am fun. Different type of fun, but fun.” He explained, as you watched him intently. “We could travel. You'll see.” He wore a small smile as he began to press buttons. You shared a look with Yaz as she gave you a subtle nod, letting you know she had a plan.
Eventually the ship landed, as The Master approached the doors, opening them wide to reveal you were back where you had started, seeing Cybermen… No, Cybermasters stood around.
“Ah, thank you for waiting, my precious fam. And now it's time to kill... everyone. Unleash the volcanoes.” The Master declared as you stood in thought.
‘I still need a companion to ask…’
‘We could have fun. We could travel.’
‘My precious fam.’
“Tectonic disruption in progress. Volcanic eruptions increasing across the surface of planet Earth.”
The Cybermaster informed The Master as he grinned in delight.
“Stop!” You called out, the Master turning to you, eyes narrowed as a hand fell on his hip. “Stop…” You held your hands up in surrender. “You don’t have to do this.” You said quietly. “I know what you want.” You gave him a small smile. “And it’s ok-“ Yaz stared at you in confusion, as the Master tried to hold a straight face. “I can come with you.” You offered, as his expression faltered for a second. “If you want…” But before he could answer you were interrupted by someone entering the room, but it wasn’t just anyone…
“What's going on? Who are you?” The Master frowned.
“I'm the Doctor, mate. Who the hell are you?” She responded as The Master growled.
“Shoot her!” He ordered the cybermasters, who openly followed his orders, but the shots quickly went through her.
“So... it was just the genetic material you put into them, was it? Maybe you should have included the brains. Next time, check for signs of a hologram. Schoolboy error. But then you were a rubbish schoolboy, too.” The Hologram Doctor quipped as The Master felt his breath quicken as he felt anger bubbling up. He scowled, turning to you, eyes threatening.
“Was this you?” He accused as you shook your head quickly, as Yaz answered.
“Out-thought by the Doctor. Get in the machine.” Yaz told him, as he narrowed his eyes.
“Or what?”
“You heard her. Quickly.”
A voice came from behind as you saw the familiar face of Vinder, who was holding a gun up at the man.
“If you're a friend of the Doctor's... you aren't going to use that.” The Master challenged as Vinder shoved him, causing the man to grunt.
“I’m freelance.” Vinder said simply as you watched, seeing the Master being shoved into the glass chamber.
“You’re going to let him do this? To your doctor?!” The Master cried at Yaz, who simply shook her head.
“You're not my Doctor! Because you know the greatest strength my Doctor has? She's spent her life gathering friends. She can't help it. And she is loved. Because she taught us to never give up, even if someone steals your very existence.” She exclaimed, as you watched The Masters face drop. You could see the heartbreak in his eyes, the realisation, he would never have what The Doctor did…
“Master-“ You called to him, as he turned his gaze to you. “I meant what I said.” You told him, a small smile on your face. His features softened as he realised what you were saying.
“They're starting. Yaz, over there. We've got to harness their regenerative energy. Right, burst of two seconds, and then link it into that.” The Hologram Doctor told her as you slowly stood back from the chamber, giving the Master a reassuring nod.
Before you knew it, the familiar regeneration light appeared in the two chambers, eventually the light dimmed, revealing The Doctor stood back in front of you all as The Master went back into his own body. After a few moments of silence, Yaz grinned at the woman, as she helped her out of the chamber.
“Hi. What did I miss? What am I wearing?!” The Doctor looked down at her self as she stumbled slightly, Yaz and Vinder holding her up. “Forced regeneration. Forced degeneration. You brought me back! Yaz, you saved my life.” She turned to the girl as you stood on the sidelines, watching the trio as your gaze shifted over to the glass chamber of the Master. He hadn’t moved. You frowned as you approached it, opening the door as you leant down, giving him a gentle shake to try and see if he’d stir.
“Doctor-“ You called over to her, as she turned to see you by her enemy.
“(Y/N)…” She breathed out, frowning as she slowly approached. “What are you doing?”
“He isn’t moving, help me.” You told her as you placed one of your hands behind his back, lifting him to sit up right as The Doctor watched in confusion. “Doctor?” You furrowed your brows as she didn’t move, before she blinked and aided you in bringing him out of the box and onto the floor. You quickly placed your fingers on his wrist, searching for a pulse as you sighed, feeling one. “He’s ok.” You breathed out as The Doctor watched, looking at Yaz for answers.
“He’ll be fine.” The Doctor told you. “Now come on, we need to stop the daleks.” She turned as she began to walk back to the TARDIS, Yaz and Vinder following.
“No.” You shook your head. The three stopped, turning back to look at you as you slowly stood.
“What?” The Doctor frowned.
“You need to stop the Daleks, Doctor. You three.” You told her. “I’m staying.” She took a step towards you as you gave her a small smile.
“You can’t stay. What do you mean stay?” She questioned.
“I can’t leave him.” You said softly. “He needs someone.”
“He doesn’t need anyone, (Y/N)!” She exclaimed. “He doesn’t do companionship, or friends or-“
“Or maybe no one has tried hard enough.” You jabbed a little, as she recoiled back, taken back by your words. “You didn’t hear him… Yaz, you did.” She furrowed her brows at your words. “He just wants a chance to be you.” You sighed. “He reminds me of you y’know…” The Doctor stayed quiet. “When you were full of anger, needed someone to stop you. I was there.” The Doctor swallowed the lump in her throat as Yaz stared at her. “But now you have Yaz…” You gave her a smile. “And, you don’t need me anymore… But maybe he does.”
“I can’t guarantee your safety.” She told you. “He’s not safe.”
“Neither are you.” You said quietly as she sighed, knowing you were right. “Thank you, Doctor… for everything. But it’s time… It’s time I moved on.” She gave you a small nod, sadness on her features as she knew you were right.
“Thank you, (Y/N) (L/N).” She gave a small smile. “Till we see each other again.”
You didn’t know how long you’d sat with The Masters unconscious form for, but groaning brought you back to reality as you looked over to see The Master sitting up. You approached him, as you held out a hand for him. He furrowed his brows, following the hand as he peered up, seeing you.
“What are you still doing here?” He asked, monotone as he contemplated taking your hand.
“I told you. I do believe you owe me some planets.” You gave him a small smile as he frowned for a moment, before taking your hand, accepting your help.
“Where’s The Doctor?” He asked, as his eyes scanned the room.
“Gone.” You told him. “Now, never-mind that…” You began, raising a brow. “You better have a way for us to leave 1916 Russia.”
And now, you were travelling with The Master. He didn’t trust you straight away, suspicious as to why you chose to be with him, why you chose to leave The Doctor for him… But as time went on, he began to learn your intentions were pure and honest. Something he hadn’t experienced in a long time. You allowed him to take you to planets, to see the stars, to experience civilisations… The Master was right, he was a different kind of fun. He would push boundaries on what he could get away with, from stealing important jewels, to defacing ancient relics, and the occasional blowing up of a planet here and there, albeit empty ones, you made sure.
However, eventually he seemed to need those things less and less, and slowly became content with just living and experiencing new things. Having someone with him, gave him a new lease of life. Of course, he had his moments still, there was no easy fix for that. But no matter what, you stood by him, helping him through whatever he was experiencing.
“Why did you chose me?”
The Master asked, standing at his TARDIS’ console, looking at you from across the room. You stared at him as he looked at you expectantly.
“You could’ve gone with The Doctor, even after everything I’ve done… You chose me.” He was analysing you, trying to look for any minor change in your features.
“Because everyone deserves a chance.” You told him simply. “Whilst I disagree with the things you’ve done, you have a chance to change how you do things in the future.” You explained. “Besides…” You cleared your throat. “I always did like a bad boy.” You joked as he let out a breathy laugh.
“You can’t fix me.” He suddenly announced as you stared at him. “I am what I am.”
“I don’t want to fix you.” You told him softly. “That’s not my job. Only you can do that.” You paced round the console, taking slow steps towards him.
“You’re very wise for a human.” He commented as you raised a brow.
“Is that a compliment?” You smirked as he rolled his eyes at you.
“If that’s how you want to take it, dear.” He responded. “You humans are so easy to appease.” He almost purred as it was your turn to roll your eyes.
“Go on then.” You challenged, folding your arms. “Impress me.” He narrowed his eyes as he began to smirk, moving his land to a lever.
“Your wish is my command.”

one thing that rubs me the wrong way about the ending of the star beast is that its not bc the doctor is male presenting that he didn't let go. and even if it were, wouldn't the doctordonna, being female presenting, have thought of it before?
the reason the doctor never thought of just letting go all of the power is because that is one of the defining characteristics of the tenth doctor: he can't let anything go. he carries the weight of everything on his shoulders, whether or not it's even his fault. letting go isn't even an option. he is appalled at the idea that eleven had moved on from the death of gallifrey (day of the doctor), hell, he can't even let go of his greatest enemy, the master (the end of time part 2)! even in family of blood, he invites joan to travel with him instead of letting go of a romance that he never even had.
so why did donna and rose think of it?
obviously this isn't the canon answer, but here's how I think of it
looking back to family of blood, john smith and regular doctor were pretty much two different characters. but the thing that separated them most was john's ability to make the decision to lose joan to save the world. the doctor, as we've seen with rose, is willing to sacrifice anything and everything to keep the one he loves safe.
why is the doctor less capable of letting go than john? because john was human. timelords live in such a way that they never have to let go of anything. they don't even have to let go of their lives! they can just regenerate! but humans, they know that everything has its time. everything lives, and therefore dies. humans are BUILT on letting things go.
the doctordonna couldn't let go, because her mind was battling between timelord and human, half and half. but donna and rose could do it, because their humanity was bigger than their timelord-ness

i think one of the main reasons i love the doctor from doctor who so much is just how much of a “societal failure” he is.
thats not even me being mean to him, he is by all standards on Gallifrey a complete and utter failure + reject. he breaks the rules all the fucking time, he barely scraped by graduating as a timelord, he is unemployed and basically backpacking throughout the universe in the time travel equivalent of a 2002 toyota camry that is breaking down. he does not give a shit about acting prim and proper, he is unabashedly weird and rude, and half the time refuses to accept social cues.
he is the exact opposite of what Gallifreyan society expects from their citizens, especially citizens as prestigious as full blown Time Lords. the expectation is in the goddamn title, a lord is someone who rules and holds an official position with the decorum needed for that.
and, out of everyone, who is “more qualified”, he is the only one who remains. the fucked up outcast who runs from literally everything is the last time lord that represents his entire people.
and he is still portrayed as a strong and courageous person who is worthy of that duty. he is respected by those around him, and does active good and is someone who is not seen as lesser, despite the fact that the society he came from definitely did see him as lesser. clever, yes, determined as well with spirit, but not necessarily respected as a person.
and they do examine his flaws, but never do those flaws make him seem less than. it just makes him a fallible person. he’s not a god, he’s a messed up man with a shitty ass vehicle who likes to explore and experience new things, and helps out when he can. he’s still the last of the Time Lords, and he is just as able to hold that mantle as any of his contemporaries.
idk, it just makes me feel very seen. as an autistic kid its very easy to feel like youre the part of “society’s failures”. its nice to see a character who IS a societal reject, yet is still respected as a person and is the face of his entire culture, and not treated worse off by it.

For the ask game! simm!master obviously
thanks for the ask! im always happy to talk about this guy lmao
sexuality headcanon: specifically this regeneration is very mlm, idk theres just smthn in the vibes
otp: gotta go tensimm man, theyre so genuinely fascinating lol
brotp: probably him and missy, the dynamic was so funny
notp: martha or jack, it just makes me uncomfortable causw of the shit he put them thru on the valiant and the inherent power imbalance that isnt there w the doctor cause “fellow timelord” vs “puny humans”
first headcanon that pops into my head: the reason hes so erratic in rhis regeneration is to keep his heartsrate up to try to sync them w the drums to drown rhem out
favorite line from this character: not rly a line but i adore the whole monologue (?) in teof pt 2 when hes talking about the untempered schism and his childhood on gallifrey, john simm does such a good job acting the emotions of it and that whole scene is just brilliant
one way in which I relate to this character: i too am incredibly fixated on the doctor in a vaguely fucked up way (im obsessed w the timelord victorious bro)
thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character: any shitty 2000s cgi moment lol, i love him and his flashing skull but sometimes it is embarrassing lol
cinnamon roll or problematic fave?
