3 day juice fast 🥤
I am doing a 3 day juice fast. I’m gone drink green apple, ginger and celery for 3 days. And drink plenty of water. I’m doing this for health reasons. I lingering cough that will not go away. I tried everything. Tuesday going to my primary doctor and getting a referral to the lung doctor. I just want to be healthy and strong immune system. My immune system so fucked up.
I am doing this juice fast to eat better and lose weight and 2024 more juicing and more fruits and vegetables. Green leafy greens and vitamin C foods. I get weighed at my monthly mental health appointment and I went up to 229 from 222. I been in the 220s for a few years. I been maintaining my weight but I’m ready to lose more weight. Took my resistance bands out where I can see them and do workouts with them watching YouTube resistance bands workout videos and also my 5 pound kettlebells. But I’m mostly doing cardio.
I want get peloton but the seats be uncomfortable since I’m plus size. I want and need stop avoiding and making excuses on why I can’t go to the gym. I scheduled workouts in my digital planner and none of the days I scheduled I didn’t go. I don’t know how to drive and my family is older and by time my step dad gets off it’s late or raining and I try to be considerate since they doing me a favor. So im not gone stress about going to the gym until I can drive and take myself.
So I should start planning and scheduling my resistance bands, kettlebells, treadmill, and maybe Pilates and want get mini stepper and do mini stepper workouts. And schedule in my digital planner and hold myself accountable and my friend who have similar goals. Do this until I can drive.
I want to practice driving more. My step dad be too busy. I’m gone ask if we can practice before he works in the morning. Or wait for my grandma permanently move down here in South Carolina with us. It will happen. Patience is a virtue and I’m learning that some shit takes time. The more I do and consistent the faster shit manifest for me. I’m doing good. Proud of my growth and me taking control and creating my dream life. I’m the creator of my life. And people especially black women should know that we are creators of our lives.
I am gone start being strict and actually save money. And stop blowing my money. I need to be more responsible with my money. My family live above they means. February im paying my bills and saving $100 and don’t touch it. Save up for a IPad. I need a new tripod. Or save up Final Cut Pro to edit my YouTube videos. And plan my content , film , take photos, edit and post and have schedule and make hella content and not post it all in one day. And use my vlogging camera and give good advice for other black women growing, leveling up and on they glow up journey.
Created a budget, investment list, and my plans for 2024. I need to stick to my goals and hold myself accountable and put in work. Do what I say I am doing. Not depending on motivation but depending on determination, consistency, commitment, dedication , discipline. I am not perfect but I’m doing better and holding myself more accountable. I’m going hard all 2024. Praying this cough go away. Had this cough for months. Been dependent on sleeping pills and think it’s making me cough. I find it hard to stop getting high off sleeping pills. I take prayer cause this cough just won’t go away.
I’m gone start listening and reading more self help books and applying the information and sharing what I learned with other black women leveling up and glowing up knowledge is power. It’s my time to shine. Put myself first and others last. I deserve to have it all. I love who the fuck who I am. Spirit and my beautiful black ancestors all I need. My sp David will message me and follow on social media and stalk my post and be obsessed about me since I’m the definition of what a bad bitch all day everyday period.
I am doing good. I’m going so hard. I always get my way. Spirit and black ancestors in me and giving me hella spiritual abilities to help me rich and famous and love and be myself. I love who the fuck I am. I am gone practice singing more and start showing my singing as soon as I figure out how do it without copyright taking sound down. I’m blessed with singing abilities and dance abilities and beautiful face and body. My weight gone melt off and the number on the scale doesn’t trigger me. The number has nothing to do with my self worth. The old story is me extreme dieting. New story is me being happy and taking my time and not making me miserable on my weight loss journey. More juice fasting.
And gone learn more about Fin Dom and onlyfans and making X rated content. And men worshipping and praising and pleasing me and paying me. I’m going hard. And it’s me vs me. I am a icon and trendsetter. I’m bad bitch goals.

A collection of thoughts
youtube
Recently, there is a sense of wanting to "catch-up" with the stuff I missed on doing when I was a teenager.
At the age of 10 to 11 years old, I've been exposed to an environment where sacrificing my own "needs, wants, essentially, what we call as happiness" for someone else's benefit. This would root out from a lot of things within the family - my grandmother suffering from cancer (has metastasized over the span of years we've been with her), we've got financial problems that burdened us after she passed, family problems getting panned back and forth because of my dad's brother and my grandfather (company-related). I don't think I had a childhood that really allowed me to enjoy whatever the kids were enjoying at their age. My dad often shared all his woes to me that I've grown accustomed to what he considered is "normal" to him. In return, it gave me a predisposition that life is all about suffering and we are not deserving enough to have a breath of fresh air and just enjoy things as it is.
Over the years, I've realized that it isn't really productive to retain that kind of mentality. It's just another way to burn yourself out from whatever goal you have in mind. I think it works for my dad but it doesn't for me.
Now that I have a significant other who is privileged enough to experience a somewhat financially "able" type of life, there is a sense of "healing" that is happening within me. Throughout my high school and college life, I had a tendency to surround myself with people who were always emotionally struggling. I always found myself being unceremoniously put in the position of healing other people, being there for them, not dealing with my own mental weaknesses. I don't know. Why was I into that kind of crap? It was toxic. It only destroyed what remaining innocence I had in me as a person - given all the crap I had to deal with at home.
I am genuinely beyond happy and contented with my partner right now. We've got a few sad days where we both doubted ourselves if we're both good for one another but we greet each day as a new slate to prove of our affection. I hope it remains this way because I haven't felt this loved than ever. Not even my dad or mom has expressed this type of affection towards me. I love you, Waks ♥
__________________________________________________________
Experiencing happiness through another person's vlog/tiktok/life
You know, technically, isn't this the reason why we watch vloggers?? Instagrammers?? Tiktokers??
A majority of people in the world are unable to do the stuff they genuinely want to do because they've got other priorities and obligations to fulfill that's why they turn to social media to live even just for a few minutes of their lives, their dreams, through someone else's?? AM I MAKING SENSE HAHA
Because I followed a few people like Ciara (haha kung mabasa mo to, technically I am a fan 🤣🤣🤣 you should take it as a compliment tho; plugging her tiktok cos I love her content @itskiy*r**a yazz binabasa pa rin blogs ko ty bhi3 AHAHAHAH) - their tiktoks I mean - ALSO SHOUTOUT TO KISHA GUATLO MY GIRL CRUSH (FOLLOW HER TIKTOK PLS @gtl.k1)
I don't have the nicest of the body (pear-shaped, overweight BMI, not exactly motivated as of the moment to workout as much as I wanted to). Yeah, and I accepted that! HAHA I watch these people because they can dress nicely and be super cute, do fun tiktoks, eat what they want - and to just see a person live that type of life makes me happy because "hey! they're living the kind of life I wanted". I'm not jealous because I've accepted that it's not how things would go for me; I've got a different thing happening for me. In fact, it's somewhat of a body positive/inspirational thing to view their content because somehow, I'm a bit urged to take care of my body also HAHA
Enjoy lang sa life! Whatever comes, whatever it will be. It's what you choose to do with it that matters, okay? So cheer up. There's another day to come. Just keep moving forward in life. You'll get to be where you want to be rin basta you just keep walking. Do your best to learn from your experiences. And please, don't ever forget to be kind. Forgive people whenever you can. I just think there is so much more to life with bearing grudges. We've all got our stuff to deal with. Least we can do for other people is to just be kind to them.
______________________________________________________________
Being the person who often get told "save your words" after getting in an argument
I think people are, generally, not prepared to hear what other people has to say HAHA. This has happened a lot to me. Close friends becoming strangers just because of how prideful they've become. I think not all childhood friends are bound to become our lifetime friends. It's hard to accept that fact the moment that it happens. I still grieve to this day because I can't have that "same" friend back. She's got her own way and probably her own mistakes in life to realize. I still pray for good things to come her way.
I've come to a point in life where I don't really engage in conversations anymore. I used to tolerate making small talks with some random stranger but now, I'm just the type who absorbs the energy in the social environment. I listen.. a lot. I'm quiet. I get physically tired. So if a person approaches me, I'll talk to you. No judgments at all. Just talk to me. I'm a social sponge.

I've been playing these songs since January 2022. HAHAHA So dumping them here

Aw Bark was so cute. Tbh even though the scenario read as lighthearted, for a dumb second i was like “he can’t go into her apt bc he’s a vampire and he need permission to enter” 😂. Also i remember recently seeing a video with mingyu commenting how can wonwoo be so skinny even though he hates working out. Except idk if it was a recent or older video bc wonwoo totally killed it running on the inflatable course on GoSe and his vlog showed him working out. So when vernon was laughing that wonwoo ran, i was like hahaha. Also like 6 pumps of syrup?? Lol oc needs to watch that sugar intake that could lead to diabetes jk but also not jk (but at least she runs? So that def has to offset some of the sugar intake...just me ruining fiction with reality but ironically always trying to escape my own reality with fiction). Anyways it was cute and also makes me wish i had a dog that would force me to go outside and wog (somewhere between a walk and a jog). Do u run? Do u have a dog? And what is ur go-to cafe drink?
Damn I really should write a vampire Wonwoo fic where he’s keeping it a secret, that would fucking slap so hard. I haven’t seen that, maybe Mingyu was lying just to make us mad sudhejdn Don’t Wonwoo and Jihoon workout together in the mornings, or did I hallucinate that?
Yeah you know what six pumps of sugar and a runner doesn’t compute does it wjshehsj what the fuck kinda athlete is she if she doesn’t eat healthily smh
I’m really glad you liked it! I thought it was the funniest fucking concept and tbh it made me wish I had a dog too wisbdjd
I used to run, I exercise more when I’m not depressed but I can’t really find the motivation right now. I enjoy running though, I did track for like a year in high school (it was torture and I sucked at it haha)
I do not have a dog (sadly). My mom does! And i love her dog so freaking much but I never really get to see her. Her name is Freyja and she sleeps with me when I’m there.
I think I’d have to say that my go-to drink is a Latte. I feel like every time I order a drink someplace other then Starbucks it’s a latte. I love like caramel and shit in my drinks. What’s your favorite cafe drink?

I'm discovering that an easy way to stay motivated and distracted is to just watch beauty and skincare videos lmao. It's been just over a decade since I was really into some beauty YouTubers - now they're like married with kids and just do vlogs rather than actual makeup tutorials or anything like that. But since I decided to try Korean 10-step skincare I thought I'd try to find some new YouTubers to follow. Maybe I'll even download tiktok 👩🏽‍🦳
I forgot though, how weird it makes me feel about my skin colour. I grew up wishing I was white and then got into some Asian cultural things where paleness is considered a positive, so for me being mixed race/black that hit old insecurities from childhood. I spent a lot of time trying to unlearn that internalised racism and I love that now there's so much more positive representation of medium and dark skin tones. I love that I can go to a blog or page on pretty much any platform and find something dedicated to brown and black skin, and I look at them and remember that it really is beautiful. Sometimes I even feel that about myself, if my tan is just right. As a kid or teenager it'd be unthinkable that I'd actually want to tan. It still looks weird on me in most UK weather. But in proper sun, I really like my skin with a tan. It may be February now but just the other day I thought my skin looked really nice against the colour of nail polish I'm currently wearing and I love having golden skin.
Then I watch Korean beauty stuff and all the afters are so pale while the befores are a little darker, along with being uneven and blemished or wrinkled or whatever else. It starts putting that association back into my mind and I just caught myself almost reflexively thinking 'I should get some lightening products.' And it'll be difficult to avoid since I do want some things to fade dark marks and unevenness. But I don't want to let myself start getting internalised antiblackness again. So I'm trying to also find some black/South Asian/indigenous/otherwise brown beauty bloggers too, but ones that use the same kind of things.
It sucks though, knowing that I was able to train myself out of thinking like that about my skin, but I've never been able to do it about my weight. I've put a lot of effort into trying to work on my prejudices and such. Past me had some reeeaaally bad views that I had to eventually confront. It's why I get especially pissed off at people who refuse to examine that stuff - I know it's possible. But even over years and trying to give my fatphobia the same treatment, all I did was make myself accept everyone else. I still can't accept my own body.
I'll just throw myself into skincare for now. And cleaning. Both of those have rewards that aren't just about my weight, but might get me there if the cleaning doubles as a workout and the skincare distracts me from binging. There's so much I want to buy towards both of those things though...I got a load of money not long ago for the first time in quite a while, and I was thinking I could get fillers with it. Then I thought if I do that I can't get anything else, and I want to get some things, so I'll just save most of it until next month when i should have more money and be able to do the fillers. Then I decided to get a load of skincare stuff and some household stuff and now there's loads of other stuff I want that could finish up most of the skincare stuff I want and some of the things for the house, storage and such. And I don't have a whole lot of money left to save so I might as well just spend it, right...? But then I know that whenever I next get money I'll wish I'd saved even what I have now. But then I also know that when i next get money I still won't have enough for fillers even with this, so I should just spend it now...
Ugh. I just want both. Kinda thinking I just spend the money now and see if I can make hb buy me fillers later. He spends so much money on his videogames and I've been stuck in my room mostly alone for however fucking long. And I've already missed 2 of the filler top-up appointments I would normally have, which he'd pay for. And he always complains about how messy I am so he might even like it if I can make the bathroom nice and organise some things. So why the fuck not. I guess. Idk. I really need to go back to work and start getting my own money again. But to do that I need to lose all the weight I gained. Same old.

Recap of Ika and Dem’s IG Live Featuring Swayleigh January 7, 2019
Dem and Ika came on to have us help settle a debate, and brought Swaggy and Bayleigh on to do the same
They say happy new year to everyone. She says that they made new years resolutions and one of Ika’s was to work out more. Ika says that Dem said that he would help Ika and teach her, since she hates working out and when she goes to the gym she just sits on her phone. But she wants to get in shape and look better. Ika says that Dem isn’t a very good trainer though.
Ika: “Because he works out and obviously looks pretty good, muscle man over here thinks he knows everything and it will work out.” Ika says that Dem lifts a lot of weights, and Ika wants a smaller stomach and a bigger butt. So Dem suggested squats. She says they were going to vlog about it, but they didn’t even get to the gym because they started arguing about the workout plan. Dem wanted her to squat with 40lbs of weight. Ika impersonates Dem, “Do you want to see results or not?” Ika doesn’t feel as if she has to use weights, especially the first time.
Ika: “Who have you ever trained?” Dem: “Myself. And 100 percent of my clients have gotten results.”
Dem tells his side and says that you don’t ease into the gym, because it sucks no matter what. You might as well get results and the results will keep you going back. He says don’t ease into it because you may not go at all, you have to push yourself, and if you push yourself, that becomes your normal. He says 40lbs to squat is not much, and if she wants to use no weights she can, but she has to go until she’s dead tired.
Dem says they can do a workout in the living room if she wants. Dem also clarifies it was one 35lb dumbbell he wanted her to use. Dem says she’s just mad because she doesn’t like his expertise, Ika was just saying how strong her legs were today.
Dem says that she could go for a walk, it won’t get her sweet results but it’s better than sitting on the couch.
They add Swaggy and Bayleigh.
Bayleigh says that sometimes they fight when they workout too, and Swaggy tells her to add more weight. Swaggy says that she wasn’t doing it properly, proper form.
Swaggy and Bay are on Ika’s side to begin with, but Dem says Ika just looked at it and said no, so Swaggy switched to Dem’s side and Bay is on the line. Bay says Ika can’t give up cause she needs a workout partner but Dem should have started easier so he didn’t scare her off.
Bay: “That’s because your body is already fire so he thought that you could handle it, he said ‘babe, you got this.’ He was trying to hype you up because he loves you, we’re gonna get you there.”
Dem says he told her she could do 20lbs but Ika said she was already mad. Swaggy asks what she did after that, and she says she went on Instagram. Swaggy: “Oh, Ika! You trippin!” Bay: “You could’ve at least got on a treadmill, come on, you can’t be acting like he’s clowning you but you’re acting out.” Ika says that if she gets upset, she won’t do anything. Dem: “She won’t even eat.” They say Swaggy is the same way, exactly. Bay, talking to Dem: “You got yourself an extra, little spoiled… I get it, I get it.” Bay says Dem needs to go visit them too.
Ika says she does need to work out, Bay and Swaggy says she looks nice. Ika: “My body just looks nice in clothes.” They say if it looks like that in clothes, it looks nice. Dem: “Yeah, it looks nice.”
Dem says that’s why he wanted her to do 35lbs. Bay: “35lbs is like a baby, a toddler, you need to get used to that.”
Dem clarifies to Bay and Swaggy that he wanted her to have one dumbbell, not two. Bay and Swaggy agree with Dem totally now. Dem says that she got mad and went to sit in the corner, but then he turned around and she was at the leg press machine but just on her phone.
Ika says she wants to workout, but the gym makes her tired.
Swaggy asks if Ika saw the outcome of the game. Ika says she knew he would win. Swaggy recaps how the game was and how the fans were. Swaggy says Fessy was fine, but it was the fans that were problematic. They say the game was lit though and Bay says everyone was super sweet after, though some Fessy fans walked out.
Ika says she’s surprised Fessy fans and swayleigh fans don’t get along because Fessy and Swaggy are such good friends.
Ika says that when she and Dem go out, guys will be respectable but girls are not, they’ll even try to kiss Dem. Bay says that that happens at times, but they don’t try it around her. Dem: “I’m looking at these girls, ‘like you need to get away from me for my safety and yours.’” Ika says that the girls won’t stop, so she’s wondering if others go through it. Bay says it happens to Haleigh and Fessy too. Ika says that her and Dem went out and they were taking a pic and one girl was grabbing Dem’s butt. Dem says that they went to a party a month ago and he didn’t even say two words to her and this girl was all over him, Bay tells Ika to go crazy one time and they’ll respect her. Ika says that Dem gets naked pics sent by girls, “they’re rude.” Bay is surprised. Ika says that Dem gets messages that say “I have real hair, you should date me.” Bay says they get messages like that too, ones saying that they’re better than her for Swaggy. Ika says that if these girls have all this stuff, why don’t they have a man yet.
Ika: “Whatever, I’m here like let’s live our best lives.”
Swaggy asks if Ika has seen their house, and she says no. But Ika notes that her nad Dem did long distance for a year and a half, and Swayleigh say they couldn’t do it.
Ika: “It was so hard.” Bay: “I’m happy you made it!” They both say they need couple friends and will visit each other.
They talk about housing prices in the two places. And how expensive Ontario is. Bay: “Ika, you bougie, it all makes sense, girl!”
Ika says that Bay’s family reminds her of the Fresh Prince and Swaggy is the Fresh Prince.
Swaggy and Bay’s dad play golf together, and Dem gets excited. Bay asks Dem what his handicap is and he says it’s basically zero. Bayleigh is shocked and says that’s soo good, Ika mentions that Dem was pretty much a professional. Bay: “Daddy would love you. Now you have to hang out.” Bay says golf is for business people, whereas Ika says it’s for white people. Bay says Ika can be like her mom, bring her phone and drive the cart, “that’s the perfect little wife, you already have her.”
Bay says she will text Ika motivation.
They decide to end it, Ika is hungry. Dem goes to make Ika a shake, but Bay wants Dem to say goodbye to them first. They all say goodbye and end the live.

When I Met You | Chapter 5
teamiplier x oc, angst/platonic/romantic
PREVIOUS FICS (if you’re new, start there)
previous chapter
“If there’s an upside to free falling, it's the chance you give your friends to catch you.” -Meredith Grey
~
Father's Day.
Bella was invited to join Jimena and her father for lunch in Indio, one of the many desert cities in this valley. Bella was also invited to Aria’s parents’ house in Cathedral City, the neighboring town from Palm Springs. It was still early in the morning, she didn't have to decide anything yet.
This was never a problem in the past. In her last relationship, her boyfriend's father was on the other side of the country, so an in-person celebration couldn't happen. But what would she have done if there was? Would she have just let them off by themselves? Would she have just wallowed by herself?
Wallowing felt like the thing to do, even if Bella knew she shouldn’t. Every other day of the year, she was almost perfectly fine about not having her parents around. She got that gross, irritable feeling only on Mother’s and Father’s Day, her birthday, their birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. Not to mention that mini depressive episode that comes during those last three holidays. Other than that, she knew she was better off without her parents. Or any of her relatives, really.
Bella spent the morning at an AA meeting. She wasn't the only one triggered by today's holiday, and it was both sad and comforting. At least she wasn't alone, but it also sucked that other nice people had to go through the same things she did.
Afterwards, she went to Aria’s apartment at The Modern Cactus. If that wasn't the most desert aesthetic name for an apartment building…
Aria already had plans, as it seemed. When Bella stepped into the studio apartment, she found Aria in her workout clothes, a grey sports bra, matching grey leggings, and black Nikes. She was in the middle of taking selfies in front of her large, full body mirror.
“I'm gonna teach a Zumba class today,” she said excitedly. “You should come!”
Bella tried not to look uninterested. “Aren't you gonna vlog it, though? Sounds like something you'd put on your channel.”
“I do need a camera person.” Aria smiled hopefully. “Please? That way, you don't even have to participate! I know you don't like exercise!”
“Fine…”
It kept Bella’s mind busy. Once she and Aria got to the studio on the other side of town, Bella was glad she didn't stay at the apartment. She would have been alone, with Aria busy and Jimena at work. Being alone was still pretty dangerous. Especially today.
The Zumba class was full of high energy and a lot of cheering women. Aria really knew how to motivate a group. They all “danced" to a mix of fun, upbeat songs, some in English and others in Spanish. It looked like a fun type of exercise. If Bella wasn't so shy (and more appropriately dressed) she may have joined in.
Just being around a group of motivated people and listening to exciting music boosted Bella's mood. Even after the class ended, Aria had music bumping and she was dancing like nobody’s business.
That was why Bella liked her so much. Aria had this sweet, bubbly presence wherever she went. It was easy to be around her, and she took in Bella without a second thought. Although, she was the one who pushed Bella to call her LA friends, too. She was also very good at taking Bella’s mind off things when everything was too much.
Bella owed Aria so much.
“So you’re going to dinner, right?” she asked when they got back to the apartment. “You got anything for me to clean? Laundry that needs doing? Ikea furniture to build?”
Aria plopped down in the armchair, her feet barely touching the ground. “Maybe I’ll finally get that dining table… then you can build it for me so I don’t have to call my dad.”
“I’ll be your daddy, don’t worry.”
“You can’t even hold me up against the wall. And I’m a lot smaller than you. And you’ve been doing all of my bidding since you got here. What were you again?”
Bella only blushed.
~
Vidcon.
“You know, even if you show up unannounced, they’ll probably find a place for you,” Aria said as she closed the trunk of her car. “You’re one of their favorites, after all.”
It was that time of year again. One of the most fun and anxiety inducing events of the year was happening in Anaheim, and Bella was going to miss it for a second time. Honestly, she was a little upset about it, despite making the decision not to go all on her own. Her manager/publicist, Sonji, strongly advised to make an appearance at Vidcon, because lately, Bella’s YouTube content and lack of activity on other platforms had been seen as something to worry about in the eyes of the Internet. Going to Vidcon would be a way to diffuse the speculation, especially since Bella did not want the public to know what had happened and where she had gone.
At the same time, Bella was not ready for a loud, chaotic convention. She was not ready to sit behind some curtains and make small talk with other creators. While she did have fun meeting her subscribers, that was always the only highlight. Everything else was just a threat to her sobriety, especially since the anniversary was right around the corner. Bella did not want to risk that. That was why she didn’t go last year.
There was also the fear that her friends that were going (Jack, Mark, Amy, Tyler - the whole crew) would be angry if Bella just waltzed in like nothing had happened three months ago. They would ask questions. They already were, the main one being, “Are you going to Vidcon?” They were going to grill her, and then one of them would report back to Ethan. It would get back to him no matter what.
But really, what was the bigger risk for Bella? Her sobriety or her ex?
“We’ll have our own con,” Jimena said as she threw her arm around Bella. “Something chill.”
“Don’t have too much fun without me,” Aria said with a chuckle. “Bella, remember you can stay in my apartment all you want. Just behave yourself, especially on my bed.”
Bella snorted, immediately flustered. So maybe the things that went down in this valley weren’t exactly innocent.
“Hey, it’s my weekend with her!” Jimena said, now holding Bella in both arms. “We’re going on a road trip!”
“San Diego!” Bella half cheered, wanting to be modest about her excitement. She looked at Aria. “Just have as much fun as you can. And remember, you haven’t heard from me, and you don’t know where I am.”
Aria nodded and then got into her car. Jimena and Bella stood in the parking lot and watched her go.
“So, is Vidcon the same as Tanacon?” Jimena asked.
~
It was easy to keep a secret when you weren’t around the people you’re supposed to keep the secret from. As soon as Aria was in her hotel room in Anaheim, everything that had happened in the last three months built up in her throat. This was probably a bad idea.
Of course, Sophie was the first person to come and visit her. They hadn’t seen each other in months. There was much to catch up on.
It was times like these that Aria was glad her friend was a chatterbox. She had to think of how to cut Bella out of the things she had been doing lately. There were plenty of things Aria had to share with her best friend. She didn’t realize how hard it would be to hide something this big.
All she had to do was survive the weekend, right?
“Dan and Phil are gonna wanna hang out,” Sophie mentioned in a way-too-casual tone.
After all this time, those two British guys still rubbed Aria the wrong way. So much, in fact that she forgot about the girl hiding in her apartment.
She couldn't pretend like she didn't know Dan and Phil were going to be here. She knew exactly what was going to happen this Vidcon. Aria was trying to be the bigger person, but she was still salty.
“I hope you have fun with them,” she replied, chipping at her black nail polish.
Sophie scoffed. “Dude, it's been four years.”
“I know.”
“I think you need to find another person. Maybe if you get into a new relationship, you'll stop being mad at them.”
And now Aria was thinking about Bella. That wasn't a relationship by any means. Neither of them really wanted that. But it did clear Aria’s mind, and answer some questions. It also showed that Aria had definitely moved on from Dan, emotionally and physically. But the things she went through with him towards the end, the way he treated her and shunted her off to the side… She didn't want it to stay with her, but it did.
“I just think there's always going to be a part of me that just can't stand them.”
“But you're gonna be on a panel with them.”
Aria sighed. “Yup.”
At least Dan and Phil’s presence kept her mind away from Bella. At least all of Vidcon focused on Aria’s dance performance with Chachi Gonzales at the opening panel. At least Aria made it through her panel alright.
Then came the part where she and Sophie had to wait behind some curtains for their meet and greet. Sophie had gone to find snacks and water, while Aria stayed behind on one of the only free sofas. It was the second day of the convention and Aria was proud that she hadn't drank vodka and spilled the tea.
She was scrolling through her phone, looking at the tweets following her panel. Even to this day, people who had Dan and Phil as their profile pictures attacked her for no good reason. Although, it had been a while since her mentions turned into a shitstorm. It only happened when she was near the Larry of YouTube.
“Why is areola even there??” said one tweet. There was a screenshot from the panel stream. Aria was sharing a couch with Dan and Phil, and in the extra chair was Jenna Marbles. No one had a problem with her.
“Because I was invited to be on the panel and I said yes. Also thanks for the new nickname,” Aria typed back. After sending that tweet, she changed her Twitter name to Areola Mercer.
As if on cue, Sophie returned not bearing sustenance, but people. Aria looked up and found Sean and Signe right beside her blonde best friend. It starts now.
“Hey guys!” Aria happily greeted as she stood up to hug them. Did she know the couple well enough to hug them? Probably not, but everyone did it at Vidcon.
Sophie took the seat next to Aria while Sean and Signe sat in the sofa across from them. They all fell into conversation, though Aria tried to remain distracted by her phone in order to keep herself from puking out the secret. She barely knew Bella’s best friend, yet she felt so guilty about hiding something this big from him.
Of course, they got to the subject of Bella’s absence. Sophie was there the day Bella disappeared, she was in full panic mode over it. More reasons to feel guilty; Aria was hiding something from her own best friend.
“Have you guys heard from her?” Sophie asked the couple. “Is she even coming?”
Sean shook his head. “She said she’s about to fall off the wagon. Needs time.”
“She hasn’t gone back to LA yet?” Signe asked.
“Nope!” Sophie sounded annoyed. “If she’s struggling, why wouldn’t she just come back to us? She needs people to help her right? We’re that help!”
Aria finally spoke, and it was from the heart. “Some people prefer to heal on their own. Or, they at least prefer to clean up the wounds first.”
“That’s Bella,” Sean agreed. “But still, it’s not really fair that’s she’s shutting us out, shutting me out. If she told me where she was, I wouldn’t tell. Have you guys seen her Instagram, though?”
Aria almost felt bad up until that last question. Of course Sean was reading into Bella’s social media activity. Who wouldn’t?
“Here we go.” Signe sighed.
“You guys have any idea where she’s been?” Sean asked the other two girls. “Maybe she’s in her hometown? I forget the name, but it’s not too far from here.”
Act natural, act normal! Don’t! Be! Suspicious!
“Palm Springs?” Sophie was a little skeptical. “How can you tell? All her Instagram photos are just makeup things, and all her selfies are in front of blank backgrounds.”
“I don’t know, just a guess. Can’t imagine she would have wanted to get on a plane anywhere.”
Now it made good sense why Bella didn’t film at Aria’s apartment, even though it was more convenient. Their friends would recognize the space and figure it out. Aria had to admit, Sophie couldn’t keep quiet sometimes. Given that she was really anxious to know where Bella was only proved that she wouldn’t keep it to herself if she knew. Sean was anxious too, naturally. He was Bella’s best friend, and he lived so far away. He probably wanted to see her here at Vidcon just to make sure she was okay. Aria would have felt the same way, but she made a promise, and she understood Bella’s side of things more.
Bella didn’t want anyone to see her pain. She wanted to find herself without having to see her ex around. She wanted to be away for a while. She had every right to want that.
“What if we got like, a private investigator?” Sophie wondered.
“Why?” Aria asked, bewildered.
“Well, she calls every now and again,” Signe pointed out. “We know she’s alive, and I think she just wants to be left alone to recuperate.”
“Guys, sh, sh!” Sean suddenly nodded towards the end of the hall, where two people were coming their way.
It was Bella’s ex-boyfriend, Ethan, and his best friend, Kathryn. On one hand, Aria was glad to stop talking about Bella, but she also got more nervous now that Ethan had joined the party.
Aria and Ethan had seen each other at a few parties. Interaction was minimal between them. They also had the common ground of Bella’s New Year Intervention 2k17. Clearly, that wasn’t something you could build a friendship on. Aria just knew him as Bella’s boyfriend up until three months ago.
Now, Ethan was dangerous territory, given that Aria was hiding his ex-girlfriend in her apartment. Although, he was the one to end things between them, so would he care if he found out? Was Aria even allowed to act salty on behalf of Bella? She never gave off the impression that they were close, online and off.
“Why is it so quiet?” asked Kathryn. “Was there tea?”
“No tea here,” Signe replied.
There was not excited greetings this time. Maybe Ethan met with them earlier. Or things were really that awkward over Bella.
The latter was proven wrong when the group fell into a conversation. Ethan gushed about the meet and greet he just had. He seemed to really like his viewers. Must be nice.
“Everyone was really nice and respectful,” he said, smiling.
“How many people asked you to vore them?” Sean asked in return.
Ethan chuckled. “Surprisingly, none. I don’t know what I’d do if someone actually asked me that.”
Aria, still mildly salty, bitterly replied, “I’d rather people ask me that than why I’m here at all.”
It wasn’t really because of Ethan. Aria just had her own problems regarding the YouTube community.
“Are people actually saying that to you?” Signe asked, surprised.
“Uh, yeah. I try to block it out, but it happens almost every Vidcon.”
“That sucks,” Ethan said.
“Some people say that to me too,” Kathryn added. “It’s really their problem they got a stick up their ass.”
Aria nodded in agreement.
On the bright side, she had found people to stick with while Sophie hung out with Dan and Phil. On the down side, it was people who wanted to know where Bella was. Aria wasn’t sure how she survived.
~
Bella was always weirdly open with her audience. She talked about personal and intimate things about her life. She opened up about her anxiety and depression. She talked about her sexuality, she spoke about cutting ties with her family. Obviously, there were darker things that she hadn’t talked about, but she planned to talk about them in the future. She was thinking of sharing all of these bad things in the hopes that it would help someone out there going through similar things.
That being said, did posting a Boomerang of her current location count as a way of being helpfully open? Did showing some beautiful woman’s legs and platform clad feet surrounded by singles somehow show that it was okay to indulge sometimes? Bella thought so. At least for now.
While she wasn’t drinking, Bella certainly felt drunk on the music and the dance that Jimena bought for her. Let’s just say that Bella would not hear Little Mix’s “Down & Dirty” the same way ever again.
“So it’s Ladies’ Night,” Jimena told her over the loud music, “so no dick appointments for you! What about the blonde with the buzz cut over there?” She pointed to a woman on the other side of the bar.
Bella was glad the neon lights didn’t show how red her face was. Yes, everything was very exciting and liberating, but hooking up with a drunk stranger was not exactly ideal. It happened every now and again in Palm Springs, specifically people who would come and go to AA meetings…
“If you can find out if she’s sober or not, we’ll see,” she told Jimena.
However, they both saw the blonde not only down some shots, but also do a line of coke. San Diego is fun.

Episode Seven: How to Leverage Social Media for Your Personal and Business Brand?
Let’s start with that the WORLD is changing. It is no longer the dream to go to Hollywood and make it into the big leagues because now, Hollywood can come to you!
Hollywood: You sign a contract with an agency and with a agent and then they and the studio own you, your movies, your shows, everything. And until you are making it big time movie star, you will be lucky to be on a no name channel that nobody watches let’s say if you were going to be on channel 2893 on Friday at 10:45 pm, well who the hell is going to watch that compare to your reach on social media? TV is dying- like it or not. Social influencers and personal brands now have the opportunity to achieve a higher reach then your typical Hollywood actor/actress, and they are doing it well. While the Hollywood stars wont jump on it because that would mean they have to start from zero. So you have an advantage. A small one... But still.
Your pocket: All of the power is HERE. You are your own agent, your own editor, your own producer of your life. It is an amazing tool. You are doing this is for the future, not for the short game!
You can become a KPI (Key Person of Influence)
Be on TV, the news, newspapers
Be on podcast interviews and other interviews, Features, Conferences
Even businesses will reach out and ask you to speak to their employees and even customers!
On top of that your clients will come to your known brand instead of you having to find them.
  Recommendation #1- READ these books:
Must read for Social Media:
Jab Jab Jab Right hook
Crush it
Crushing it
Vlog Like a Boss
Ultimate guide to instagram for business
Recommendation #2- You must have CONTENT
You must jab, jab, jab, right hook. Keep in mind, he more you are trying to sell the more you will turn people away.  Give away everything for free to raise your value in the future. Have GOOD content and truly think about creating value for others.
If you have no content- Post multiple times a day, leverage hashtags just to build some momentum.
If you have content- post 1x day or at least every 48 hours for an actual post.
But you must post at very minimum 5x per day on STORIES and comment on your top hashtags!
Don’t forget your audience is different with each social media platform so based on your pitch and your why, you will have to adjust accordingly! DO NOT dump the same posts on each platform without adjusting...
Recommendation #3- Track EVERYTHING
You need to constantly learn and improve and treat this as a separate business. And an incredibly important business actually since this is your personal brand and a personal brand can live on even if you get fired, you close your business, you sell it, or whatever happens your personal brand will live on.
Measure what you do: week to week, month to month and adjust and tweak accordingly
Instagram

Recommendations #4-8: How to maximize each Platform
DO NOT just create a video or a blog post and post it on ALL your social media accounts. Specifically twitter, youtube, facebook, instagram, pinterest. Each platform exists for a different reason and for different viewers so you have to adjust your videos, pictures and text.
Instagram
Utilize hashtags! Go to www.all-hashtag.com to find the top trending hashtags to your business. Then preferable 3x per day go on and comment on the top 5 hashtags on 5 different post which equals to 25 x 3 75 valuable comment. If you think its a lot just start with once a day = 25 comments you giving value to people on those hahstags and watch your engagement and followers base raise!
Direct message influencers
-Look up local trending stories and reach out to DM them if they can relate to something you’re offering
-Look up local trending hashtags
-Tag the city you are in so you can pop up in their stories and more!
Respond back to all messages and all comments.
Use Instagram Stories- they huge right now!
Use WHO/WHAT/WHY method. Who are you, what you are doing, why should I watch you, whats in it for me, these are the questions any viewer will have so you have to be able to answer them! And at the end of the post, you can offer them to swipe up to get free stuff!
Youtube
You can have the full content people go there to watch long videos. The FIRST 4-8 seconds of your video MUST make any person want to watch your entire video. These first 4-8 seconds will determine if your video is successful or not.
Facebook
Similar to Youtube because now the audience changed to older and people spend lots of time on it. BUT DO NOT share your youtube link! They don’t support each other! You must upload your videos to Facebook as well for the best reach- pictures are the past. Videos are the new #1 and your reach will skyrocket.
Twitter
Small quotes with picture and links usually to promote your other content just to get their interest up to able t send them to watch your full videos and blog posts.
Pinterest

been keeping it for awhile now.. but here we go.. COMING CLEAN
I don’t have much friends. I do have friends, heck I have a lot but quoting Life at Thinker, kawan dan sahabat adalah dua benda yang berbeza. Never really have the kind of sahabat to whom I can spill my guts to, expressing myself, to whom I feel comfortable of telling them what I feel, what I’ve always wanted to say, what I’ve always think.  but then, i never been the kind of person that able to express myself well in words. all it got me is stuttering, trying to find the right words..
truth is, I’m not taking care of myself well lately...I’ve been neglecting my well-being physically & emotionally..
I’m not being productive like how I usually do, I woke up late, I slept late,  I skipped my meals, sometimes I don’t even eat decent meals for a day or two, I tried to get back to my workout routine but can’t. That emptiness came back, the emptiness that I thought I got rid of last year, the emptiness that I’ve been fighting for years, it keeps coming back. Emptiness- a feeling that can’t be describe by words, can only be felt.
I used to mistake it with loneliness, fear of being alone. Not as soon as I realized I enjoy being alone. I’m not scared of being all by myself. I like getting groceries alone, I like to cook alone, eat alone accompanied by Marzia and Felix vlogs, driving to places alone, make it short I’m doing perfectly fine being all by myself. (fun fact: I watched movies at the cinema by myself quite a few times actually) So really! To the people who said that doing all these things alone is sad, I believe you’re the sad ones here for thinking that way, no offense (what is the matter with us saying no offense when we already know what we’re about to say next will definitely offend them, like “no offense but what I’m about to tell you next will offend you” HAH!)
I guess how I can describe it is, this emptiness that I’m feeling, that weighing me down is like, a hole. A hole that makes me feel incomplete. A hole that makes me feel like something is missing. A hole that I need to fill it, so I can be happy. Genuinely happy. Speaking of happiness, I’m happy with my life right now. But knowing that I can be happier, that’s what really breaks me. Honestly, the life I have now, I wont even think twice to leave it.  I don’t belong in this life, I don’t belong here, I belong in somewhere else. For the longest time I’ve been living in the same city, I just don’t feel like I am home. Yes, I have my family around, my friends but this is not my home because I’m not as happy as I want myself to be. Back when I was in high school, when I have a long break from school, I went to Perth and stayed there for a month or two. That short period of time staying there, I felt like I’m at home. We have a house in Perth & there’s 5 other houses, we shared the same gate (its a small gated community), it’s not a big house not small either, the kitchen argh I loveeee the kitchen, wide space to cook, to bake, there’s a pantry room to put all sorts of ingredients, spices, other cooking materials & equipment. I would wake up early in the morning, make English breakfast, pancakes, fruit punch then we’ll have our breakfast at the backyard with the nice cozy morning weather, its amazing. Then lunch, dinner, I will be in the kitchen cooking. Even buying groceries, I’m the one that always up for that chores. In the evening, I would walk to the store (its a few blocks away) and I enjoyed that walk, every single time. Whenever I’m bored, my sister & I would drive all the way to Fremantle and even Mandurah! (we live in Bentley) or we’ll go to Subiaco just to grab churros (Yum!). Nothing much in Perth really (besides King’s Park & the beaches) but the simple life I was living there, that is something I know I wanted. I felt happy. I was happier. It feels like home.
Of course, I don’t go back there as often as I used to last time for I have commitments in Singapore and dear! I love it Singapore! Sure, it’s a busy life in there (as I went there for work trips & recently family trip). I live in Lavender, I don’t have a ride there (obviously!) & I took the MRT whenever I go to Harbor Front, always try to avoid the peak hours so my tiny body don’t get step on while changing station. I would go out from the apartment at 10 a.m. & do my stuffs all until 11 p.m, nonstop (mind you). and even though its exhausting, but i felt content. Another place where I feel like I belong. And that’s the funny part, how can I feel at home at other places but not at my own place. Why am I happier outside but not here? I fit in there but not here...
I can’t stay here, I don’t want to stay here, I really am not happy here, I want to go out there, I want to explore what’s out there, I want to experience it all, I want to be out there, I am out there. Of course, I can’t do that now, not until I finish my studies. And that thought of leaving this place is what drives me to just go through whatever hardships I’m facing & whatever that comes along the path. (JUST DO IT, you know.) The day when I finish my studies is the day that remarks my freedom and I will tell all these niggs BITCHES BYE I AM LEAVING I AM OUT OF THIS SHITTY PLACE FCK U, FCK U & FCKKK U ALL (excuse my vulgar words heheh) then I’ll go to other cities or countries, finding myself.
So here’s when things get heavy. To have that plan on my mind, from time to time, I practice myself not to have emotion (gee pat that’s so dramatic), I implement the idea of “not every situation requires reaction” as my daily motivation. I feel like it’s for the best for emotions can distract me from my goal. I grow silence, I don’t speak up my mind, I don’t talk much, whenever there’s situation that provoke me in showing anger or frustration, I take a step back. Of course, not all the time I manage to do so, whatever it is I am still a human who feels all sorts of emotions. You see I always thought that the most powerful power in the world, is not the ability to fly, or teleport, or carry a tank with one hand but- to be emotionless. The most powerful power in the world should be emotionless. You don’t feel sad, mad and happy, whoever have that ability is vulnerable, they’re strong in my opinion and I look up to that. I want to be that strong. So, I learn. “Whatever shits life throwing at you, don’t feel, conceal” (sounds like Frozen line but carry on). To choose not to feel anything, is not what I’m proud of but will it protect me, yes maybe. I thought I’m getting good in possessing the power of emotionless for I did not cried since last year, but little did I know, I’m far from being succeed. There comes the realization that I’m doing it all wrong. For all the feelings that I bottled up, as time goes on, the feelings inside of that bottle, burst out and I find myself having a breakdown in the shower with music played so nobody can hear my sobs.  I am ashamed for everything I’ve done and everything I haven't.
Anyone else get the feeling of wanting someone to know your crying but at the same time you don’t because you want to seem strong? But I’ve been keeping it for too long and its starting to get too heavy for me to handle, I need to let it out. I don’t want people to know I’m not okay, I don’t want my family to know I’m not okay, I don’t want my friends to know I’m not okay. I hate it when people casually asks me "what’s wrong?” I don’t want to share either because I don’t want to spread the negative vibe and I’m scared people would judge me, telling me to GROW UP! I’ll lose my shits if anyone say that to my face lol like no you don’t understand what I’m feeling, yes there are others that face a much worst problem but each one of us have different battles, so don’t you spit on my face saying grow up. You can’t do that, you just can’t. The word “grow up” will not solve the problem. Pushing my egos aside, I guess it’s okay to let people know I’m not okay because it’s normal. It goes back to the word “happier” and “finding myself”.
I wish not to use the term depression for it sound so strong and dark, and most people tend to think that depression and sadness is the same thing but really its not. It different from each other (how different? google it yourself.) I have been hiding for years but beginning of last year I hit the rock bottom, somewhere on January all the way till April, was not the best period of time for me. Too many things happen at once, losing the people I love and even lost myself. Searching for the peace of mind, an exhausting journey that I reached to a point of giving up and wanting to leave this place for good, never to return. But I guess God don’t want me to go to Him just yet, for the people I lost, He brought more other people to bring me lights. For all the little things this people did for me, for all the little things that happen to me, gave me hope. Hope for things will get better, eventually. Took me months to build myself back up, but I admit it has been a long journey for me and I’m proud of where I am now. Yes, I’m not happier (yet) but I’m working on it.
This post is not meant to ask sympathy, or seek for attention, those are the last thing I want, but I am very sure there are a lot of people out there that have the same issue or probably worst. And they are probably hiding too. This feelings that we have is not obvious. Depression is not obvious. The happiest person you know, might as well not happy at all. We don’t know each other’s battle for we don’t show it. We only know when it’s too late.  As Plato once said, “be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”
So be gentle, be kind, say “thank you”, ask around “how are you”, compliment them, tell the people you love them, so many things we can do to change this place into a more bearable place. Little did you know, you can be a savior to someone. Small action might not change the world but at least there are changes, even if its a small one. -P

How to Grow a Large YouTube Channel – Adam Ali
Could your YouTube channel use a jump start?
Ready to take your YouTube content to the next level?
In this week’s episode, I’m on the line with Adam Ali, a brand marketer living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His passion lies in motivating others to reach their personal best. He’s the founder of iWontLose.com, a brand with the sole purpose of inspiring and motivating the masses.
Listen to This Episode
Adam built his brand through motivational videos posted on YouTube and, as a result, he has been featured on major outlets like NBA TV, CBC Television, CP24 and many other media platforms. Now, runs a digital marketing agency called IWLagency where he helps online influencers and brands raise their social presence online by using social media strategically. One of his main platforms of focus is YouTube.
Adam and I connected in St. Maarten earlier this year, and I knew right away that I wanted to bring him on the show to talk about growing a YouTube channel.
Adam’s Story
Adam Ali
Adam describes himself pre-iWon’tLose.com as just an average personal trainer working in a gym. But got tired of that and felt that he wanted more out of life.
He used to go to YouTube for workout and motivational videos, and eventually he started thinking that he could make videos, too.
But Adam didn’t want just any old YouTube fitness video. He wanted to tell stories. So working with a producer, he put together a really cool four-part story as his very first video. It was high quality, even cinematic, and it featured Adam working out without being a typical “let’s focus on our chest muscles today” video.
The storyline showed him waking up around 4:00 or 5:00am to go for a morning run. It showed his dedication to starting the day with a workout. It also had what Adam describes as “crazy music” that was full of energy. The music really pushed the story and got people pumped up and inspired.
Motivation Fitness Training Part 1
That first video went really well, so Adam kept making content.
His third video went viral. Adam narrated and poured his heart out, which resonated with a lot of people. It’s still biggest video he’s ever produced.
It was called “Dear Hard Work,” and it was basically a letter to the concept of Hard Work. In the video, Adam says that he’s been afraid of hard work, but it really is a good thing because it leads to progress, gains, and results.
Dear Hard Work
This video resonated so powerfully with his audience that he started getting sponsorships from other fitness brands.
Adam wanted to top that third video to close out the four-part series. So he decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. He had never climbed anything before, and he says he didn’t even really train. He describes the experience as the hardest thing he has ever done.
For me, the take-home message here is about creativity: Adam didn’t just do what everyone else was doing. He saw what was going on, what was popular, and put his own spin on it. How can you apply that to what you are doing?
There’s nothing wrong with “how to get abs” videos, but the key is to pay attention to what people are looking for. You can be as creative as you want, but it won’t matter if people aren’t looking for what you’re making.
You’ve got to create content that people are seeking. Don’t do it just because it feels good to you. You have to fill a void. We’ll come back to this point later.
In 2012-13, Adam met his wife Latoya. She had a comedy channel on YouTube – LatoyaForever – and Adam saw opportunities to scale it.
Latoya Forever
He wanted to fuse her comedy and his fitness, so he reached out to Latoya with a crazy idea: do a video of Adam training Latoya, with her doing “all this wonky stuff.”
People still love that video! It really helped build her channel. Adam says that he learned a lot from growing her account.
Adam’s initial goal was to make Latoya’s channel sustainable so that she could quit her retail job. It’s always hard to leave a stable job and take that risk. But Adam pushed her and she pushed herself, and by the end of 2013, she made the leap.
At the time, she had about 300,000 subscribers. Now, she has over a million.
Around the same time, Latoya wanted to move to L.A., so Adam left his job at a not-for-profit and they drove from Toronto to L.A.
They had been there for 3 or 4 months when they found out they were expecting a baby. That changed everything (but in a good way!). They moved back to Toronto.
The moment she knew she was pregnant, Latoya started documenting her journey as a mother. She and Adam started another channel for this content: Latoya’s Life.
Latoya's Life
For a while, they were focusing on that family channel because they were seeing a lot more engagement there. People were sharing stories and giving advice. Vlogging was fairly new at the time, so it felt like a whole new world.
They parked Latoya’s first channel for about a year. She just didn’t feel like being goofy and funny anymore. However, after a year, Adam pushed her to revisit it.
Once they started focusing on that channel, they gained 700,000 subscribers in a year. Latoya was able to find the content that really resonated with her, that she was comfortable making in her new role as a mom.
Starting Out On YouTube
I wanted to get Adam’s advice for those just starting out on YouTube.
He says that the most important thing is to be a YouTube viewer FIRST. See what other people are doing. Live on the trending page and see what’s going on.
Be courageous and press publish
It’s okay to look at other people and see how they are doing what they do. Stay plugged in to what’s happening in the community. It sparks ideas, for content, ways of editing, and delivery.
Bottom line: you’ve got to be a passionate viewer first if you really want to be a great YouTuber.
Once you are ready to publish content, it’s important to take that leap. You just have to be courageous and press publish.
Then, tweak as you go. There’s no such thing as perfect, so just keep going. Part of the process is creating content from where you are, and trusting that you’ll get better as time goes on.
Okay, great! You’ve arrived. You are watching and learning, and you took that leap to press publish on your first video. Now what?
Adam has a few tips:
1. Consistent Content
Consistent content
Decide to give yourself a year of consistent content upload before you give up. At the start, it can feel like you’re not getting any traction, but these things take time.
Come up with a schedule that is right for you. It needs to be something you can actually keep to with your other responsibilities.
Then, once you’re comfortable with that, you can think about adding an extra day.
Be consistent with the day: teach people when to expect your content and get them into a routine.
It really takes time, especially now that the platform is so saturated. But if you’re consistent, YouTube will favor you in the algorithm.
You need to focus on longevity. It’s so easy to get burnt out.
Back in 2012-13, Adam was publishing on Latoya’s main channel about twice a week. Lots of experts say it should be three times a week, because that’s what the YouTube algorithms favor.
But we’re humans, not robots. There’s no point posting that often if it’ll just burn you out.
2. Foster a community.
Foster a community
Make people feel something or your time on YouTube will be short. If you really connect with people, they will champion your content.
Once you have that community, throw it back at them. Ask for advice and comments.
Latoya has been really successful in creating a community of passionate, opinionated people who want to dissect everything every chance they have. And that’s great!
Here are some ways that Adam and Latoya build and connect with their community:
Feature a male and female viewer every week. They call this “Viewer of the Week”. People submit their photos via an app, and then Latoya and Adam acknowledge them in the video. This is a big thrill for people, since they’re getting seen by 100,000+ viewers per video.
Respond to at least 40 to 50 comments on every video. At this point, they get 500-1500 comments per video on average. It take a lot of time, but it’s important to acknowledge your audience. Lots of YouTubers don’t do this – they publish the content and then they’re gone. But the audience wants interaction!
Screenshot favorite comments and show them in the video. This is the “Comment of the Week,” and it’s another great way to acknowledge your audience and make them feel special. .
Giveaways and contests. Throw it back into the comments and ask for input from your viewers. Adam and Latoya will do things like, “Tell us the funniest joke pertaining to the vlog or this topic,” and then do a giveaway for the best ones. It’s all about involving the audience.
Engage them in a non-spammy way. You will have to find that balance. It’s a fine line between engaging and annoying. Also, people can tell if it isn’t coming from an authentic place. They’ll see right through anything you’re doing just because you want more subscribers.
Driving Traffic
So how did Adam and Latoya get their channel to a million subscribers?
Create content that people care about
They started by creating content that people care about. You do that by looking for what people are searching. See what videos are trending.
Then, take those topics and incorporate them into the video. When you do that successfully, it brings a whole new stream of traffic from places you never even expected.
Talk about things that matter to people. Use what YouTube gives you: write the perfect title that sparks interest. Write good descriptions. The YouTube system is designed to get your content discovered via search.
Throw the word YOU in the title – “What do YOU think of X?” It makes people want to click because they want to answer the question.
Understand the YouTube algorithm. Use the right keywords, and look at what’s trending. If “Trump” is trending, and you incorporate Trump into your content and your description, then people are much more likely to find you.
Create content around tags and challenges. Spin what’s trending in a way that’s authentic to you.
Remember that the reason it’s trending is because people care about it right now. And that’s how you’ll get discovered.
YouTube used to be all about subscribers. If you had lots of subscribers, you’d get lots of view. Now, they don’t care as much about subscribers, but they do care about content.
Just because you have a million subscribers doesn’t mean you’re going to get lots of views. YouTube wants to be able to push your content to certain places, so it’s all about content now.
It’s important to understand that there are three layers of subscribers:
First, they hit the subscribe button.
Then, they hit the bell to say, “Please notify me.”
But then, they have to actually turn on notifications to be pinged when you upload a video. They have to click “always” in notification settings, and lots of people don’t do that.
Subscriber counts are metrics for brands, and that’s about the only reason they matter now.
If you’re just starting out, this should be very encouraging! You used to be a disadvantage if you didn’t have many subscribers. Now, you’re getting equal treatment from the algorithm. It’s a more efficient system for all users.
Social Media Strategy
Social Media Strategy
Adam has had a lot of success with social media, so I wanted him to talk a little bit about his strategies for using other platforms to drive traffic to YouTube.
He says it’s important for him to have a social media strategy that funnels everything back to YouTube. Why? Because that’s ultimately where they generate income, not just through AdSense but also through brands that they work with.
So every time they create a video on YouTube, they also create supporting content for all of the social platforms:
On Snapchat, they’ll let everyone know that there’s something coming out, and give a specific time. This is a teaser.
Then, they come back when it’s uploaded and let people know that they just dropped the video.
On Instagram, they do the same thing with their story.
Sometimes, they’ll also do a teaser video on the feed. They take their favorite parts and create a shorter video. The trick is to make it irresistible. Make people want to click and go there.
On Facebook, they’ll post the video snippet natively. Just a YouTube link won’t do it, since YouTube and Facebook are direct competitors. Facebook really favors native uploads.
Adam Ali Facebook Page
More recently, they have started posting the entire video on Facebook. They started doing this about six weeks ago.
At first, that sounds counter-intuitive, because the strategy is usually to drive people back to YouTube. Why go to YouTube if the whole video is on Facebook?
But Adam looked at the analytics, and only about 1% of their views come from Facebook clicks. At that level, it doesn’t really matter if it funnels to YouTube.
He’s also trying a new strategy, although he’s not 100% sure that this works. To avoid punishment by the Facebook algorithm for linking to YouTube, Adam uses a bitly link in the captions of the videos. Sometimes they also paste a bitly link in the comments.
There’s some research suggesting that bitly links and link shorteners get suppressed on Facebook, too, but it’s always worth trying out a new tactic!
They also use Keek.com, which allows you to upload 36-second videos. This platform is not as cool anymore, but they have a big following there, so they keep it going.
On Twitter, definitely upload a teaser instead of just a link. We all know that video converts better than text.
Final Tips
Reach out and Collaborate
Adam recommends that you reach out and start collaborating in meaningful ways. That will help you grow. YouTube is such a community of creators. Build friendships and connect with those creators in order to keep growing.
