"URGED INDIAN TO TRUST WHITE MAN," Toronto Star. January 8, 1913. Page 3. ---- Outlaw Killed Two White Men Who Abused His Wife. ---- BEST SHOT IN COUNTRY ---- Canadian Press Despatch. Vancouver, B. C. Jan. 8. - That Simon-Gun-A-Noot, noted Indian outlaw, who for years has successfully defied the police in northern British Columbia, recently considered giving himself up voluntarily to the authorities at Hazelton is the information brought down from the north. Gun-A-Noot is wanted for the murder of two men several years ago.
Rev. Willian Lee, a Methodist minister at Kispiox, which is twelve miles from Hazelton, assists the Indians under his charge in handling the business affairs of their saw mill, which is a co-operative concern, with many native shareholders. A short time ago a strange Indian of fine physique and speaking perfect English called on the missionary asking for the return of certain money he said he had invested in the mill.
When Mr. Lee asked for the visitor's name, the latter, after hesitating, admitted he was the famous outlaw, and his name was found in the list of shareholders. After the business had been concluded Mr. Lee advised the Indian to give himself up.
"But the white men would not take into consideration that I killed their two men because they had abused my wife," objected the outlaw.
Refused to Surrender. Simon went away after agreeing to think over the proposition, but later in the day returned and said he would not surrender himself. He said his friends believed that a jury of white men would not pay enough attention to what led to the murders, because, he declared, white men did not care what was done to Indian women. Mr. Lee told a friend later that Simon was armed with three revolvers - one on each hip and one in a holster in the centre of his belt.
Simon is known as probably the surest shot and best hunter in the north. He was always looked upon as a model Indian until the day when. after having warned two white men to keep away from his wife, he returned from the hunt to find his wife debauched and the two whites holding a drunken celebration in his home. He shot them both dead and then fled, successfully evading capture.

Glacier Highway, BC (No. 2)
The Stewart–Cassiar Highway, also known as the Dease Lake Highway and the Stikine Highway as well as the Thornhill–Kitimat Highway from Kitimat to Thornhill , is the northwesternmost highway in the Canadian province of British Columbia. A scenic route through some of the province's most isolated areas, the highway first gained designation as British Columbia Highway 37 in the year 1975. At that time, its southern terminus was at the community of New Hazelton on the BC Highway 16 (the Yellowhead Highway). In 1975, with the completion of a new bridge over the Kitimat River, the highway's Yellowhead junction was relocated to a point on Highway 16 just south of the site of Kitwanga. Highway 37 was then extended south to Kitimat in 1986  superseding what was then designated Highway 25. At the north end, the highway briefly stretches into the Yukon, becoming Yukon Highway 37.

Hey travellers and (so-called) Western Canada residents of tumblr!
I’m planning a road trip with a bunch of friends throughout BC, Canada and into the NWT and Yukon…I want to be able to tell spooky stories at campfires about local legends and haunts, but LITERALLY all anyone talks about is how haunted Vancouver and Victoria are, as if that’s some kind of secret. Some places I’m totally stumped on are:
Prince George, BC (note: I do already know a fair amount about the highway of tears)
Fort St. John, BC
Dawson Creek, BC
Muncho Lake, BC
Fort Liard, NWT
Watson Lake, YK
Carcross (note: I know about the hotel and hope they’re open again when we go!), YK
Kluane National Park Reserve, YK
Atlin, BC
Anywhere along the Stewart-Cassiar Highway
The Hazeltons
Nisga’a Territory
I’d super appreciate any stories you’ve got to tell! Share your spookies!

CANADA - BRITISH COLUMBIA
The rest of the caravan went well. We got so busy, I didn't post anything for a while. We finished up in Whistler, British Columbia, then headed back into the United States on August 24th.
2023 Aug 17 (Thu) – At 7:30 a.m. we served breakfast to the group.  Johnny & Linda cooked sausage and scrambled eggs in their rig; Paul cooked pancakes on a griddle in the pavilion.  Everything was very good.
At 10:30 a.m. we went to the ‘Ksan Historical Village next to the ‘Ksan Campground for a tour of their longhouses.  There are 7 buildings; we were shown 3.  One lodge was used for sleeping.  As many as 50 families slept in a lodge.  They had many children; our tour guide’s grandfather was from a family of 14 kids.  There was a fire in the center of the room used for warmth and cooking.
The next building was their community lodge where they held rituals and group activities.  The last building was used to store the regalia of the chiefs.  We learned there are 5 clans and each clan belongs to a house.  They are a matriarchal society and the children follow the mother’s line.  Our tour guide is a native and of the village and knew a great deal about their history and customs.  She explained a great deal about all the artifacts arranged around the lodges as we listened to her tell us about their customs and beliefs.
Paul and I drove into town to get fuel and stopped at Zelda’s Travel Mug Café.  Weird name.  Even weirder set up with no real kitchen.  They cooked on a stove and washed in a sink in a little area at the back of the tiny building.  Our meal was good.
At 7 p.m. we had a travel meeting and prepared for a long move tomorrow.
2023 Aug 16 (Wed) – We packed up and drove 165 miles to Hazelton, a relatively simple drive over nice roads.  The campground is run by First Nation and adjacent to it is the ‘Ksan Historical Village.  There is one road that runs down the middle of the campsites with pull-thru sites on the right and left.  It was so easy to park everyone.
During the drive, we stopped at a nearby street to look at some totem poles.  Some of the oldest collection of totem poles is in the Hazelton and New Hazelton area.
2023 Aug 15 (Tue) – We had a travel meeting at 7 p.m.  After that, several of us went to Fish Creek to see bears.  We did not see any, although other people said they did.  This time, there were gulls in the river.  The ranger said they look for the eggs to eat.  The poor salmon don’t have a chance – between the gulls eating their eggs and the bears eating the fish, it’s a wonder any survive.  Yet, there are thousands in the river all trying to get back to their birthplace to lay their eggs then die.  Nature can be strange sometimes.
Stewart, British Columbia is right next to Hyder, Alaska.  You cross the border from BC to Alaska.  There is not border agent there.  Hyder is essentially a ghost town.  It boomed during gold rush days but is now virtually deserted.  A few hanger-oners live there and run a shop or two but the town is pretty empty.  The Fish Creek Observation Site and the Salmon Glacier viewpoint are in Hyder.  When you return to Stewart, BC, you have to go through the border crossing and there is a border agent there.  They check your passport, ask the customary questions, and pass you through.
2023 Aug 14 (Mon) – The clouds parted and the sun came out so we drove back up to see Salmon Glacier this morning.  A grader had worked the road last night and the first half of the road was so much better than yesterday.  When we got to the top, we found 3 trailers camped up there.  One was a small airstream.  Who would take their trailer on that road?
The view of the glacier was phenomenal.  It looked like a river of ice flowing down between the mountains and turning to glow down to Bear River.  We saw a marmot hiding in the rocks.  Mosquitos were fierce!
At 5 p.m. we had a potluck meal.  The pavilion had been promised to another caravan in the park so we set up tents.  Joe Padberg had a 10x12 and a 10x8 to go with our 10x20.  Things were a little wet with the rain but it all worked out.  The meal, as always, was delicious.
2023 Aug 13 (Sun) – We packed up and headed out to Bear River RV Park in Stewart.  It was a long drive – 242 miles.  It made for a long day.  We got everyone parked then headed out to see Salmon Glacier.  Unfortunately, it was foggy and overcast and we couldn’t see much once we got to the top.  The road up was pitted, rutted, washboard and just plain worn out.  It was a very rough ride on narrow, twisting dirt road.  No guardrails either so it was a bit scary.
Half-way up the mountain, we came upon a mining operation.  It wasn’t there 8 years ago when we came here in 2015.  They had the whole side of the mountain reduced and large trucks were moving in and out of the area.  There was a heavy duty electric yard set up and a huge building nestled into the side of the mountain.
When we came down the mountain, we stopped at Fish Creek to see if we could see any bears.  There is a large raised wooden walkway that stretches along the side of Fish Creek.  Thousands of salmon were in the creek, coming back from the sea to spawn.  Bears come into the area and feast on the salmon.  We saw no bears today.
2023 Aug 12 (Sat) – We packed up and left Watson Lake headed to Dease Lake.  It was 146 miles; not too bad. The roads are slowly improving as we move south.  We just stayed in Dease Lake for one night.

Heli-skiing The Coolest Snow Journey In Canada
LodgingBed and Breakfasts – Fernie presents some of the most scenic and intimate Bed and Breakfasts in Canada. Local Government – City of Fernie and Regional District authorities and business companies. “Assistance by the information resulted within the fast restoration of the one person that was buried and survived,” mentioned Sgt. Marko Shehovac, in an announcement emailed to CTV News. Gotz-Thilo Ries, a German nationwide, was on his sixth run of the day Monday with two of his pals when the group was caught in a Class 2 slide roughly one hundred fifty metres extensive, say RCMP. Revelstoke's town centre, with a big selection of distinctive outlets and eating places, is a short 10-minute drive from the chalet. Guests stay in one of eight luxurious bed room suites in the lovely, eight,200 square-foot timber frame residence.
Seekers Media (SnowSeekers' publisher) acknowledges we live and function inside ancestral, conventional and unceded homelands of First Nation peoples. We are grateful to work and play on the homelands of Alberta’s 8 Métis regions together with British Columbia’s 198 & Alberta’s 48 Heliski distinct First Nations. Our usual ski lodge lunch breaks and après lounging has been... As I’m lying beneath the blue sky - inhaling and exhaling heavily now - I’m also thankful to have skilled this wonderful day in a spectacular place.
Removeable liner makes it easy to adapt to totally different temperatures and exercise levels. Rankin has guided 25-year regulars from countries everywhere in the world; others are experiencing the luxurious lodging, five-star meals and rush of hovering down countless verticals, waist-deep in powder, for the primary time. Anyone who has ever lined up early enough to be first off a chairlift on a deep-powder day has possibly felt one thing close to it. Bella Coola Heli Sport boasts the biggest heli-skiing tenure on the earth. 'It’s simply very wild and remote,' says co-owner Beat Steiner. This provides you the primary day to heat up your legs and is early sufficient in your trip in case your heli-skiing day needs to be rebooked because of a inclement climate.
The services supplied by business owners on the Love Northern BC web site aren't affiliated or endorsed by Love Northern BC or Northern Development Initiative Trust. Skeena Heliskiing is a member of the Greater Hazelton Chamber of Commerce, HeliCat Canada, the Canada West Ski Association and CAA. It is unimaginable to tell how you'll do before you go, but most people who take some time to organize have a nice time. See properties that pledge to make all friends feel safe, welcome, and respected. “As the corporate has continued to evolve over the past six years, the necessity for a lodge of this magnitude turned extraordinarily apparent,” he said. The Kootenay region’s business development make us the best location in your profession transfer or enterprise venture.
Please bring your own ski poles and ski boots, which might easily be fitted to the rental skis. The most popular months to heli-ski in Whistler are February and March. Snow and weather conditions are usually most reliable presently of yr.
Its non-public helipad is designed to a Bell 212 commonplace and might accommodate helicopters up to 15 passengers. If you've been dreaming of a luxurious alpine getaway, an ultra-luxe chalet provides a bucket-list expertise in B.C.'s breathtaking mountains. Heli skiing is expensive, but it’s the skiing experience of a lifetime. They can be picked up at Silver Star and shuttled to Kingfisher’s staging space in Cherryville for a day of heliskiing and then shuttled back.
Wearing unfamiliar skis, trying to control the snow rather than going with the move, I struggled. Gibbons took a couple of us aside and patiently gave us some recommendations on skiing the nice powder. Slow down, don’t crap on your skis and actually get a feel for the airiness of what’s underfoot. I was a bundle of nerves mixed with adrenaline as I looked up and round at the place I was. Ragged teeth-like spires poking up towards a backdrop of deep blue sky. Normally fierce wanting mountainsides of rock softly draped and softened by a winter’s price of snow – somewhere within the realm of 10 to 12 metres.
A blizzard of rotor wash obliterates any vision, and without rocks or bushes for reference, the machine could probably be slipping in any path and he’d never know. Winds buffet the helicopter, and as he nears the ridge, visibility is still completely obscured. This group can also be liable for overall lodge cleanliness in common areas in addition to serving, clearing and supporting the culinary program. Class 4 driver’s license, and experience driving in winter situations Heliski, preferred. Glassdoor has millions of jobs plus salary information, company critiques, and interview questions from people on the inside making it straightforward to find a job that’s right for you. In this way you can keep away from the issue of being too far from the guide's line throughout your huge turns.
For operators trying to do things proper, heli-skiing is normally a difficult balancing act between the demands of safety, and those of the market. A good snow forecast and a novel aggressive benefit RK has over other heli operators keeps a pep in Holt’s step. “We are one of the only a few front country heli operators where Heliski purchasers can drive as much as the helicopter for his or her day of skiing,” he stated. Wake up in your Copper Point Resort hotel room, ski the wild purcell backcountry all day, again to ULLR for a burger and a beer. The international grandaddy of heli-skiing, CMH shockingly, is opening solely certainly one of their twelve lodges this coming season, Bobbie Burns north of the Bugaboos lodge.

Telus community outage impacting cellular residence companies in B.C.
Vancouver-based nationwide telecom Telus has been coping with outages in B.C. and Alberta in a single day. Per a tweet from the corporate shortly after 7pm PT/10pm ET on October 18th, a community outage impacted residence and wi-fi companies in Terrace, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert, B.C. Nonetheless, the corporate’s community standing web page highlights extra areas in B.C., together with Hazelton, Kitseguecla, Kitwanga, and Kitwancool. The outage was attributable to a motorcar accident, which broken a cable. [Community Update] Please be suggested we’re conscious of a community outage impacting residence and wi-fi companies within the areas of Terrace, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert BC. (1/2) — TELUS Assist (@TELUSsupport) October 19, 2022 Telus’ final standing replace got here at 9am on the nineteenth, noting that “Service restoration efforts proceed” and the corporate estimates it’s going to have issues again on-line by “late morning.” In whole, impacted companies embrace cellular (textual content, voice, and knowledge), OptikTV, PIK TV, residence cellphone, and web. Witset, BC (No. 5)
he Bulkley River in British Columbia is a major tributary of the Skeena River. The Bulkley is 257 kilometres (160 mi) long with a drainage basin covering 12,400 square kilometres (4,800 sq mi).
Much of the Bulkey is paralleled by Highway 16. It flows west from Bulkley Lake past Perow and is joined near Houston by the Morice River, its major tributary. The Bulkley continues north past Quick, Telkwa and Smithers. It then meets the Skeena River near Hazelton. The Bulkley River is a major tourist destination for anglers targeting wild steelhead.
The river was originally called Wet'sinkwha ("blue and green river") by the Wet'suwet'en people, the indigenous inhabitants of the Bulkley Valley. The name Bulkley was given for Colonel Charles S. Bulkley, the U.S. Army engineer-in-charge of the survey team who, in 1866, explored the area in preparation for the failed Russian American Telegraph. The project was abandoned because of the success of the trans-Atlantic cable in 1866.
The Little Bulkley, a smaller stream running through Houston, and the Morice join just west of Houston. At the point of their joining they become the Bulkley, not the Morice, although the Morice is larger. This was done by Poudrier, a government cartographer who, it is rumoured, never saw the region.

Idk if being ace has anything to do with it but like…I audibly sighed with annoyance when I got like 100 pages into my new book and there’s already a heavily established love triangle. One of those classic once’s where the two lovers hate each other and are both “strapping young lads” and “how will I choose” and one is the enemy to lovers trope and the other is the white knight saviour trope, AND I JUST CAN’T FIGURE OUT HOW THIS IS RELEVANT TO A PARANORMAL THRILLER. ALSO ONE OF THE LOVERS IS NOW A WENDIGO? but like, an “I won’t hurt you uwu I will use my powerz to protect u” kinda thing…I know those creatures can take over bodies or assume forms of familiar folks but this feels…weird? Like those are powerful and dangerous things afaik, feels weird to make a romance out of it
Book is Harmless by Katherine Dell - paranormal thriller about a girl who moves from Vancouver, BC to isolated Hazelton, BC, and that is literally me, so I had to read it 🥹

random moreid fic idea!! reid and morgan were online boyfriends years before joinign the bau, but ended bc of long distance. they meet again on reid’s first day and he immediately recognizes morgan, even though he’s gotten taller and more muscular, and when gideon introduces him to the team as “dr. spencer reid” morgan’s speechless, and its slow burn from there ♥︎♥︎
here is chapter one! sorry this has taken a while! also on ao3 here
if you weren’t just an online romance 1/?, 900 words, moreid
summary:
It would without a doubt come as a great shock to the Behavioural Analysis Unit team members that Derek had been in a long term relationship, and at that, a committed one, not a quick fling or dalliance more about sex than emotions.
It would not, however, surprise them that this had been a one time occurrence, although there were a myriad of other elements of it that would. Primarily? That it had been with a man, but also that it occurred online, and that even over a year after the relationship’s end, he would still go back to Spencer without a second thought.
Apparently, Gideon had a new protege. A kid, who from all Derek had heard, despite being quite the genius, barely made it into the FBI, with the usually mandatory fitness tests being waived for him, and no attempt even being made to try and give him a gun. That was, if the rumour mill was to be trusted.
To say Derek was unexcited to meet the new kid would be an understatement - the last thing he needed was to have to look after some hopeless, useless newbie, pretend that he liked him, and wait out him inevitably leaving when he realised what the job really involved, that it wasn’t some desk job where he could solve problems, but a real, hands on job, where people got hurt, died, and that was life.
Whilst he trusted Gideon, he was also slightly skeptical of the supposed genius - how smart could he really be? After meeting Spencer, his ex-boyfriend, Derek had gained very high standards for the capabilities of a genius, and he wasn’t sure this newbie would reach them.
The other team members did not seem so doubtful about the kid, which almost made Derek feel bad, but Derek had not been a trusting person for a long time, so he figured he could excuse it - this wasn’t something specific to this incoming kid. It wasn’t as though he wanted the new guy to be a disappointment either, he just preferred to brace himself for it.
His eyes alternated between the door and the clock as he awaited the kid’s arrival, occasionally glancing back down at his work to keep up the image that he was actually doing work - not that anyone was fooled, nor cared. Most of the team were buzzing with excitement over the new agent’s imminent arrival, a pleasant change from the gloom that had seemed to be stuck over them for the months following Agent Hazelton’s death, since Gideon’s suspension. Even if he wasn’t excited about the idea of the new kid, and who he was, Derek did desperately hope that some new blood would help make this shift a permanent one.
It seemed as though the newbie couldn’t even be on time on his first day, something which frustrated Derek to no end. Not only was he going to end up having to babysit this guy who hadn’t even been able to properly get into the FBI, but he was going to have to deal with someone who was either highly disorganised, had really bad luck, or was just chronically late - none of which were things that were good qualities for an agent in the BAU. Gideon really must be losing it if he thought that this kid was going to work on the team, and Derek hadn’t even met him yet.
“Hello, my delicious piece of chocolate!” Garcia said excitedly as she walked to his desk.
“Hey Baby Girl,” Derek responded, grateful for the distraction from the door and the clock, both of which were quickly losing interest, despite knowing that any minute, the new
“Do you know when the new guy is coming?” she asked, beginning her standard rapidfire speaking, “He is supposed to be starting today, right? I can’t wait to meet him, although I’m sure he will be nowhere near as perfect as you!”
Derek couldn’t help but grin - he really had found his (platonic) soulmate in Penelope Garcia, even when he was moping about a new agent, she could brighten up his day immeasurably. He swore it was some kind of magic power of hers - if anyone were to have magic, it would be her, anyway.
“The newbie is running a bit late, I think, that’s all. And I had better hope that you don’t plan on letting this kid replace me! Can’t have anyone stealing my girl!”
That was when Derek realised how quiet the rest of the bullpen had gone, highlighting the single gasp that he heard following his words. He turned his head around again to face the door, where he had neglected looking during his quick chat with Garcia, and saw the source of the noise.
A familiar set of eyes met his, and he quickly took in the man in front of him - although he was slightly taller and healthy looking than when Derek had last seen him, the cute face, the lanky limbs, the nerdy haircut - they all gave him away.
It was all that Derek could do to keep his jaw from dropping to the floor at the sight, the sight of a man he had never expected to see again, not in real life, not in the office, not anywhere but in his dreams.
But there he was, as clear as day, as real as everyone else in the building with them.
Gideon cleared his throat, getting everyone’s attention, stopping the eyes of those around them from flickering between Derek, Garcia and the new agent, releasing it was much more important to listen to what the Senior Agent was about to discuss than to contemplate the newbie’s shock at Derek and Garcia’s slightly unconventional friendship.
“As you all are aware, today we are getting a new agent joining this team. I would like you all to meet Dr. Spencer Reid, the BAU’s newest team member.”
Not that he had ever doubted it, but Derek’s recognition had been correct. This definitely would not go well.
