Reasons why the house is called Zelda's house:
They changed the sign from 'Link' to 'Zelda' because Link is wanted for arson in every single settlement in Hyrule and they don't want to make it too easy to find him.
Tax benefits. Double income, no kids — have you seen Hyrule's inflation rate? Gotta make every rupee count.
Yunobo visited and swung his Boulder Breaker a little too clumsily and broke the sign that formerly said 'Link and Zelda's house' so that it's now only Zelda's house. Yunobo is inconsolable.
They changed the sign from 'Link' to 'Zelda' because Kogah and the Yigs learned to read in the depths while searching for autobuild and they don't want to make it too easy to find him. That now 'Zelda' stands on the sign in bright letters? Well, it's not 'Princess Zelda' for a reason, they won't connect the dots, I promise.
Riju practiced her new lightning abilities. The wooden sign didn't take being electrocuted as well as they thought. Riju says it's payback for Link never giving the thunder helmet back.
Hateno's citizens kept insisting he should run for the mayor election so they pretended he didn't live in Hateno.
Sidon stole the sign saying 'Link' and put it on one of the beds in the inn in Zora's Domain so that Link always feels at home.
The woman cleaning the house scrubbed the sign a little too thoroughly and now Link's name is unreadable.
A storm broke Link's part off and when Link tried to fix it, Tulin accidentally produced one gush of wind too many and it blew it all the way down to Hateno Bay.
The village kids convinced Link to join their spy team and keep erasing his name from the sign because you can't have your name on your door as a spy for Hylia's sake! Discretion is crucial!
His name is on the sign. It's just covered by Cece's mushrooms so it's unreadable.
Wait—I thought this is Zelda???!!

Food for thought but what if the house in Hateno was just Zeldas at first? Link wanted to give Zelda a place to stay where she can rest without being reminded of her duty every 5 seconds (which was why staying in Kakariko didn't work) and he knew he's not the type to sit around and rest. He does want to stay by Zelda's side however, but also felt awkward about living with her. So he does this thing where he just checks in with her every few weeks/months but travels around doing tasks for the people. Whenever Zelda wants to travel he's immediately by her side, but once she's back in Hateno he's just "...okay see you later......" and leaves. Zelda wants to tell him to stay a bit longer, but is too uncertain to break that boundary between them. Also she doesn't really want him to feel like he has to stay by her side. She wants him to have his freedom.
But suddenly him being gone for 2 months becomes 6 weeks...then it becomes 1 month...then 2 weeks....then a week...and one day he walks up to Zelda and just says "...can I stay over for the night?"
And so the house in Hateno starts to feel a little less lonely from then on.

even if i didnt love botw as much as i do, totk drives me nuts bc, similarly to pokemon, this series is so SO SO full of potential, they have so many games they can pull from, theres so many themes, characters and worldbuilding thats just left to rot, you dont need to connect anything with a chain to old titles, you dont need to bring back any things that already had their ending, but PLEASE harness at least a fraction of all this!!!! and they just refuse to do it beyond shallow references
totk jsut drives it all home to me, bc this isnt just the next game in the franchise, but a DIRECT SEQUEL no 10 years apart from botw, yet they cant even, they REFUSE to even keep the continuity with its OWN lore it established in botw together, and that, i think, is what truly makes me so insane (derogatory) about totk
it PROVES they do not care, they dont care to build on anything of the lore of old titles beyond references in form of amiibos or whatever, they dont even care to make a sequel to their most successful game in the franchise coherent with its own lore
botw established a captivating detailed world full of potential, while lacking in active storytelling, it had environmental storytelling, characters and ideas that were the perfect ground to build on-
and then they do away with it bc idk .. they want you to build mechs and make videos of it that go viral and thats all they care about or something
shiekah tech? forget that existed
character being the character you know? act as if you are seeing them for the first time just like they are
lame story? dont think about that just be distracted by the epic presentation of it
lore the previous title established? forget that, all that matters is what is here and now
beloved character from old games beign brought back? hes a new guy and has no background and no lore and just sits waiting for you at the end to have a flashy fight with
references from old titles and their lore? just here for nostalgie bait, dont you remember? you LOVE this series, now give me 70 bucks for a glorified DLC that ruins what you loved about the series and makes you realize that nothign matters and nothing is interesting anymore
you are supposed to take it all at face value, to not think about anything, to see a character say something and just go with it, and forget it the second its over, be distracted by good music and pretty visuals, but dont think about, dont think about anything but what is directly said to you like you have no critical thinking skills, forget there was a game before this one, only the one you play matters, empty your skull and dont let yourself feel anything but what the game tells you to feel
if they dont even care to make the sequel to their most successful game actually build on the previous title, dont even care to keep their continuity of two games supposedly directly happening one after the other in tact- maybe they never cared, and all the meaning we thought we saw them build into their games was all accidental and meaningless
and that is absolutely soul crushing for fans like me to discover
its a game.
its not a story, its not a world, its not themes, its not characters, its not lore.
its a product made to make you pay money, not to make you think about anything.

How exactly does Link know the warmth and power of Light Dragon scales feels familiar? Why does Link think of her as "my sweet princess"? How did Zelda obtain his clothing items several times? Why does she have so many bottles of wine? Why disguise to go to Lover's Pond more than once? Why hide his gift behind the throne specifically? Why is there a heart bed in the Deku Tree with blue nightshades and Silent Princesses next to it? Or those same flowers paired together at Rutile Lake? Why is the dream home something you need to find a "special someone" for? Why does the dining table in that dream home have the same flowers as the ending scene? Or a study unit for "time alone"? Why is Link so closely bonded with Zelda's horse? Why can I yell "I have!" when asked if I have a gf/mind set on someone by Ashai? Why "favored" swordsman?
