Gray, brand new to town, sees a woman on the opposite side of the bar that makes him feel sick - in a good way, though. But that only raises the big problem: how to introduce yourself when making small talk makes you also feel sick, but in a bad way. Written for the Love at First Sight prompt by Love-Bokumono-Fics on tumblr.

She had a glass of wine in her hand, but she wasn’t drinking it. There was no sort of sign that she was waiting for anyone, and it was hard to tell if she was simply people-watching like I was or if she was deep in thought.

Yeah, she was gorgeous, but it honestly didn’t matter if she wasn’t, because there was something about her that just drew you in. Commanded attention. Maybe it was those sharp eyes or air of confidence she gave off. Hell if I know.

I did know one thing.

I had to know her name.

But asking for someone’s name means you have to talk to them. Introductions and stuff. I hate all that. I don’t think it would be a stretch of the imagination to say that I’m the worst person at small talk you would ever meet.

But for some stupid reason, I wanted to know what she called herself. I wanted to hear her say it with her own lips. I wanted to know if she had that silly twang that everyone in this area seemed to have. I wanted to know if she talked like the people in the city I grew up in.

I wanted to know if she was bored here, too.

Her bright green eyes latched onto mine, and that’s when I felt it.

The awful pang in my stomach and chest.

I wanted to sink into the floor and vanish, but at the same time, the idea that I had her attention gave me that awful jittery, giddy feeling. Butterflies in my stomach? I’m pretty sure that’s what people call it. I think I’m just going to call it what it is – nausea.

SUMMARY:

Flora warns Gray about the repercussions of his actions while hiding out in the valley. Claire is mislead on her search for Gray by a certain someone in Forget-Me-Not, while simultaneously coming to terms with a shocking realization regarding her feelings for him. Ao3

PREVIEW:

She swallows, no longer able to avoid it in that moment; she chases her direction over to the pictures by her dresser that she had once kept so close to her, that she banished the second she felt betrayed by him that night. Her hands are an earthquake, tremoring when she lifts one up, but she stares at the photographs through the darkened night and holds them close to her heart. They’re the ones from his nineteenth birthday party that she threw for him.

She remembers that she told him she loved him that night.

Why did she say that?

And she stares through their smiles, the picture of him, her, and Kai, the group shots with everyone who came to celebrate him, the one of just them two together.

Realizes it’s true.

She said it because it was an irrefutable fact.

Even that night that she held him… she remembers wanting to deny it so bad, masking it with her overwhelming worries for him.

Not allowing herself to feel it.

But she knows—realizes—that he has always had a place in her heart, because he’s just occupied so much of it.

Another one of my thiefguard songs, this one really gets me in the mood to write them being adorable.

But I also think it fits Farmer x Gray from Friends of Mineral Town, not sure if it's the mood or the line "but behind all this masquerade, you will find a boy who's just being afraid." (Fits Cliff too now that I think about it.)

There's some similarities in the way I write both ships, both have someone who doesn't really feel deserving of the other's love (Gray and Lecrinn), and both have the less shy one doing things like dragging their crush off to go dance with them in the woods (Farmer and Lecrinn); and I think this song fits those dynamics. I also just, really love this song.

Quick description if you want to know what you're getting into: it starts a very slow acoustic and quickly picks up, by the middle it sounds like an acoustic lofi hip-hop, the beat disappearing again by the end.

With my chronic fatigue I sometimes have to skip past the beat, but I do find this song a little easier to listen to than other fast songs.

HARVEST MOON: What If?

Wouldn't it be nice to have a new Harvest Moon game where it's connected to Mineral Town which is the legendary town for all Harvest Moon gamers. I already can feel the goosebumps when my main character step into Mineral Town.

We may see how Elli has become a wife of the doctor and have a big hospital in the town. Mary has become this great headmaster of the school that she built with her husband, Gray, in town. Karen is turning into this very charismatic woman with a suit and short bob hair because you know what? She's the new mayor!!! And of course she has Rick beside her everytime.

Unfortunately we cannot see Ann and Popuri because both of them have their fortune outside of Mineral Town. Popuri married Kai and of course she'll be following wherever he goes. She's also becoming mother of 3 cute children with Kai's exotic tanned skin and Popuri's funky pink hair. Ann is the head chef of her own restaurant in another big city which is actually the city where Cliff was born.

How about Jack (the main character of HM BTN)? He's married to Claire (the female main character of HM BTN)!! Claire actually came to Mineral Town right after Jack stayed for three years, they fell in love and get married in the next Fall season. In this new game, Jack will be this great Guru that you can ask for tips and free items if you completed his quest.

One more thing, Ellen and Barney are dead.

Summary: The four generals, Jadeite, Nephrite, Kunzite and Zoisite designed and unleashed a virus to harvest energy, control the human population, and begin overtaking the world for Metalia which awakened the sailor soldiers in their second year at university. The virus rapidly changed the world and their sense of normal. People who are infected have their energy and clarity sapped as a cough, sneezing and bouts of aggressive insanity spread the infection faster than anyone can keep up! Many die after this phase but stronger individuals proceed into a more gruesome phase of infection: As the virus progresses the victims begin to crave blood and attack others under the illusion that their blood lust will cleanse them. Attacks are well documented but governments are overwhelmed with testing. The world needs help!

Usagi, Minako, Ami, Rei, and Makoto must stop the virus from spreading, find a way to heal those infected AND defeat Metalia before it's too late. The soldiers already suffered loss, losing Mamoru, Naru, and Yuuichiro over the last six months with the virus only closing in on them and the world.

On the flip side of these star crossed lovers, Haruka has lost everything to this virus. Unawakened as a sailor soldier, she watched Michiru perish in her fight but continues on in order to complete their mission: find the origin of the virus and destroy it. With nothing left to lose, and an infection that could overwhelm her at any time Haruka was losing hope.

And when two hopeless soldiers crashed into each other they both sense an electricity that seemed like a nostalgic memory. Will they find hope, something to protect?

When Usagi crosses path with Haruka will their fates change?

Together, can they forge a new future?

Chapter 1 (Haruka POV)

At some point you get used to always running.

Sprinting from it all, dashing away; wherever away is. It’s just running. From her, from them, running until there's an all too familiar slimey solitude-cocoon webbing across your eyes; the threads pull every piece of personality, of relatability, away from the faceless passerbys.

At another point you realize that everyone else has been caught in the same webbed mess.The threads of paranoia and mistrust bind us closer than previous vessels like love and friendship. You can never be sure who is safe, who can be trusted.

It didn’t used to be like this. I used to trust someone with everything. But she was taken by the damned virus that’s changing our very idea of normal. It’s going to destroy the world and that’s far from a secret.

These days everyone looks over their shoulder, no matter who walks by.

Under the endless blanket of gray skies that canvassed the autumn months people congeal into a faceless mass every rush hour. It’s as certain as the sun setting or fall’s blank skies. Somehow, I found myself caught in this routine mess.

With a pointless sigh I berated myself for getting slowed and teased with all the smells. While it was this nameless group of people that I wanted to protect from others like myself they always seemed to get in the way of my efforts to protect them.

As if anything could save us anymore.

I weaved through the crowd that still roused at every rush hour. Work was about the only constant flow left driving people. They trotted forward to go home, sleep, rinse and repeat the cycle. Until they too were infected, that is. With the masks they began to feel even more like faceless sheep before a slaughter, unaware of the truth behind the virus and their demise.

Perhaps this cursed reaction to the virus was meant to teach me patience. Maybe that’s why I never became sick with insanity, or terrible illness like—

An intoxicating smell of jasmine and lilacs wrapped around my face in long, golden threads. A soft, small warmth crashed into my core. Were people really this clumsy, still this blindingly trusting?

Without thinking I embraced the small woman radiating this penetrating heat. In that instant I never wanted her to leave my arms.

For a split second it felt as if my heart skipped a beat. As if it held a rhythm these days.

Without skipping a beat I steadied the small woman in my arms. She leaned into the embrace as she found her footing. We both lingered several moments too long as if we were equally lost in each other’s sensations.

As she looked up at me I knew I wanted to see her again.

Piercing, bright blue eyes shined up to me. Her cheeks became cherry stained in tempo with that vivace heartbeat. Her equally flushed lips parted and searched hopelessly for words.

If I had my own heartbeat that stunned, and moderately smitten, expression would have been enough to stop it. Who is she?

Gray cursed loudly as the game over theme played on the tiny television. He gestured toward the screen, as if it were the machine’s fault.

“See? It’s the damn flinch animation! All you have to do is get touched by an enemy, and then you fall straight into the pit!”

Karen rolled her eyes. “Yeah, sure. We’ll go with that.” She gave the bill of his hat a playful tug.

“What are you talking about? You didn’t even get past the second level!”

She shrugged, waving her controller. “I’m just goofing around on here. I didn’t grow up playing this like you and Ann did.”

He felt his ears go red as he furrowed his brow. “I really did used to be able to do this all in one go! It’s been a while, so-”

An airy laugh stopped him from protesting further. “It’s alright, Gray. I’m not judging you for being a little rusty. Besides, you should know by now that you don’t have to impress me. It’s okay, I still think you’re cool.”

Her cheeky wink caused his cheeks to burn. “Gah, why do you have to say stuff like that?”

“Would you rather I not think you’re cool?”

He wasn’t sure why her question had him blushing even harder. “You’re just a tease. It’s hard to tell when you’re being sincere.”

She gasped, placing a hand dramatically over her wounded heart. “How could you say such a thing? I’m always sincere!”

He didn’t look away from the screen as he restarted the game. “You’re a flirt and you coddle a select few.”

It was Karen’s turn to blush as she looked over at the blonde, who was chatting away eagerly with Ann. “I do not coddle Claire! Or… at least I’ve been trying to get better about it!”

“I didn’t even say her name.”

And you didn’t deny being a flirt, either…

“You didn’t have to. I could just tell by the way you said it,” she huffed. She stole his hat in response and plopped it on top of her head. “Consider your hat privileges revoked.”

He paused and looked over at her.

“I’m rocking this look, huh?” Karen asked with a playful smirk.

He shrugged. “Looks better on you than it does on me.”

“Hey, you’re not supposed to agree!” A scowl covered her face. “C’mon! Where’s your sass?”

His gaze moved away from her. He heaved a deep sigh and set down the controller, his playful mood gone. “She always liked it better when I didn’t wear that damn thing anyway…”

“So, I know why I’m here,” she says, placing the cream down. “But why are you here?” When she speaks, it’s as if she’s trying to be sultry, but it sounds like she’s just lost her annunciation at the end of her sentences each time. Is she going for a sexy-while-being-permanently-fried kind of vibe, or…?

“I’m just here to be alone.”

“Yeah, clearly not!” Lumina glances him up and down in the bed. He feels himself turn red again as he tries to lower himself deeper into the covers to hide his lower body further. She smiles to herself smugly. “We had sooo much fun last night.”

He runs his hands through his thick hair. Where the hell’s his hat, too? “Can you just—”

“Okay, so, like I said, you don’t have anywhere to go,” Lumina states. “You don’t wanna stay at the inn, like… just no. Ew. Ugh, seriously. Hang here for a bit, I don’t mind.” She gestures around. “I’m lonely too, and I like the company.”

“Yeah, I prefer to be alone.”

She ignores him, rummaging through a drawer and producing a silky cream robe. Tortuously, she slowly slides it on, the way that chick wears it in Scarface. Open and exposed with no purpose to even being worn on her body like this. She walks over to another drawer, plucking the nude-fabric of some lacy, expensive-looking underwear. It matches the satiny material of her robe.

Claire had a robe… that night he burst in before passing out, he remembers it against her skin.

Her underwear too… in his hands. In Trent’s hands first, but ending up in his nonetheless.

Never saw it on her.

… Didn’t expect to.

Fireworks

The tide swayed gently over the sand. The beach was quiet as everyone waited, watching the night sky.

Streaks went up into the air, exploding into fireworks.

Eyes lit up and lips smiled or fell agape.

Away from the rest Yumi and Gray stood side by side.

She smiled at the spectacle but her gaze wandered to Gray.

His eyes were wide in awe as the lights reflected off them.

Her smile widened before she looked back to the fireworks.

Eyes narrowing he smiled. After a minute he glanced to Yumi, her eyes bright with wrinkles in the corners. Her warm smile warmed him inside. As he watched the fireworks he decided one day he’d make her that happy, not knowing he already had.

Super short thing I wrote about my Friends of Mineral Town character and the guy I’m marrying in it, Gray. But I feel like you don't have to know the characters or game to get this.

It’s not much but I’m pretty proud of it.
