Okay so im a massive tea snobdrinker. Love me my leaf juice. I love everything from old school Chinese to full English drowning in milk. If the OM cast had a signature tea, what do you think they would be?

Personally I can't see Mammon drinking anything but coffee, and Lucifer has a thing for premium aged Pu-er, but the rest elude me. Earl gray seems a little obvious for barbs, so I thought I'd ask an expert 😉

Also congrats on the 50k+ word fiction. Can't wait to read it! I'm seriously thinking of ways to put Pandora on page properly, of which you have her thanks.

Okay, okay, so tea.

I'm kind of a snob too but I also drink coffee... I like all kinds of fancy drinks! But I haven't really considered what I think the characters' signature might be so now I'm curious about it.

Lucifer is interesting because he's canonically a tea drinker - his and Barb's chatroom is called Tea Demons lol. And I think you're right, he's gonna go for the rare or more involved type of tea and the way pu-er is made that checks right out to me.

I kinda think Mammon would drink chai tea lattes. I don't know why, but something about that combo of spicy sweet just makes me think of him.

Levi doesn't strike me as a tea drinker much at all. He gives off massive energy drink vibes. But I could see him maybe going for some southern style sweet tea or like... an Arnold Palmer or something. An obvious exception would be if there was some kind of tea specific to an anime he was into lol.

They don't really talk about Satan drinking tea, but he absolutely strikes me as a drinker of tea. One of his hobbies is latte art so I could see him experimenting with tea lattes. But I think just for regular drinking, he would probably go herbal. Chamomile or mint or maybe lemon.

Asmo likes pretty tea so I assign him hibiscus tea. Either hot or iced, it's this gorgeous dark red. I also think he'd like to dump sugar into his tea and that actually makes hibiscus tea taste delicious imo. I also see him going floral in other ways like maybe having traditional black tea but flavored with rose or lavender.

Beel strikes me as a citrus guy. Orange spice tea. I could also see him enjoying something like peach tea. Or teas that are specifically made for like... giving you energy and such. You know for workouts?

Belphie probably drinks Sleepy Time tea lol. I mean that's probably too on brand but it'd be funny. Still, something soothing like chamomile is probably best for him.

I kinda get the sense that Diavolo will drink whatever tea Barbatos serves him. And I think he probably prefers Devildom varieties. But if he was going to have something from the human world, I'd have to go with acai berry tea. It's also dark red which gives me Dia vibes, but it's naturally a little sweeter than hibiscus so you don't have to add a ton of sugar.

Ahh Barbatos. I'm flattered you think of me as an expert. But it's hard to choose one for him because he seems to appreciate the flavors and uses of many different blends. However, if I was going to choose something, it'd be Jasmine green tea. Simple, elegant, with a subtle flavor profile that's easy to mess up if you don't brew it right, and a hint of floral. I could also see him particularly enjoying silver moonlight white tea - rare and harvested only beneath a full moon. That just feels like the kind of mysterious vibe Barb would like lol.

I think Simeon seems like he would also enjoy a variety of flavors, but I'd give him oolong. It's like in between black and green, smooth and sweet, just kind of perfect, like he is.

Solomon is the Earl Grey drinker. Classic and robust, with its black tea flavor enhanced with that little burst of bergamot. He might drink it black too but he likely puts milk in it. Though I can see him also enjoying it in latte form. I'm just imagining Satan making him London Fogs with cats drawn in the foam~

Mephisto probably drinks only Devildom tea lol. But if I'm gonna say what I think he'd be into rooibos. It's another red tea, so we've got his flamboyance, but it's more earthy in flavor than either hibiscus or acai which I think would fit his palate. Plus we know that he dumps sugar in his tea and I think a good rooibos could handle that.

Raphael strikes me as an English Breakfast tea drinker. Give him the classic black tea blend with some milk, but no sugar. I don't know why, it just feels no nonsense like him lol.

Lastly I give Thirteen matcha tea. Thirteen is different in many ways - the only female in the cast, the only reaper, etc. And matcha is tea but it's different and it has a unique flavor. And matcha powder can be used in all kinds of things, too. It's versatile. And I think all of that fits with her personality.

Fast question, what are TPiaG characters’ favorite colors??

I’ll do you one better— their favorite colors and their favorite colors to combine with that color! Plus the favorite colors of some side characters.

Twig loves pink— in particular, that one shade of peach-tinted pink that pairs really nicely with cool-toned golds. She swears up and down that it’s because she likes to watch the sunrise and her favorite ones to watch are especially pink, but Celebi claims that Twig once told her as a young human that she liked pink because that’s what color her bestest friend Celebi is. They will never agree on who is telling the truth.

Kip likes harvest yellow and warm, autumnal oranges. He loves the fall season, and that little window of time where the trees around Treasure Town are full of yellow leaves before they change further is his favorite.

Celebi likes spring green and the pale, barely-blue shade of white that clouds are on mostly clear days— in general, she likes a wide variety of colors so long as they’re bright and “fresh” feeling.

Grovyle likes the shade of blue that the sky turns just before sunrise and the mottled browns of leaf litter. He’d struggle to identify his favorite colors, though.

Dusknoir likes brown and gray. This sounds extremely boring until you learn he specifically likes the brown of rich, healthy soil and the warmer, speckled gray tones of rocks outside of the Dark Future. They’re two very distinct shades of gray to him. No one else can pick them out from each other besides him.

Ark likes midnight blue and silver. There’s little rhyme or reason to this beyond him just liking moon-coded colors. He enjoys pastels in general as well.

Cresselia didn’t enjoy any color in particular before a few centuries ago, where she discovered a fondness for the shade of red blackberries stain your fingers and the light, almost minty shade of green of the stems that sprout off of their canes.

Sen likes slate gray and that one highlighter color that no one can identify where it lies between the spectrum of yellow and green.

Lucky likes lavender and cream, and will get flustered when someone points out that she specifically likes the shades of lavender and cream that Acai, the aipom on Kip’s archeology team, has on her fur. She likes them separately, she swears!

Neri likes the shade of red that red grapes are. She says she likes it because it looks yummy and that it’s the best color ever, no contest. No color deserves to be paired with it.

Lyra loves vibrant, fiery red and bright, neon yellow. Her room is a bit of an eyesore once her mom says she’s old enough to decorate it exactly how she likes.

Opal is too young to voice a favorite color, but she seems to prefer blue toys over toys of similar types and differing colors.

Stiles

His cool, calm, and collected demeanor was at odds with the anxiety and anticipation roiling inside. Stiles learned years ago to school his facial expressions, to quiet the fingers that itched to drum on any surface, the feet to tap, or a leg to bounce. At least in public. There were the odd lapses, yes, but he couldn’t afford that today. He had to be the Boss, play the unbothered Blade of infamy.

Of course, the facade alone wouldn’t be worth a damn while in the company of werewolves, but he had other tricks up his sleeve. Or more accurately, hanging from a simple black cord around his neck; the thin, metallic, rune-marked disc the size of an old silver dollar resting flush against his sternum and tucked beneath layers of clothing. A white sleeveless v-neck under a long-sleeved red dress shirt, the shade of which he often used to signal his mood or the tone of the day’s business. (But not always, it wouldn’t do to be completely predictable, not to mention that circumstances often turned on a dime.)

Today he wore a vibrant scarlet, including a matching tie, with his signature charcoal gray 3-piece suit. Bold and triumphant for this was a momentous occasion. Stiles doubted he could’ve engineered a better opportunity himself than the one poised to fall into his lap. Hopefully literally in the not-too-distant future if he played his cards right.

And to think this had all been set into motion by sheer happenstance after more time than he cared to admit spent daydreaming trying to scheme up some kind of proper introduction over the past few years. But there was always some reason why it wasn’t a good time or likely to backfire if not cause a capital I Incident. There was also the part of him that would rather be able to keep his fantasy alive than risk the possibility of being shot down (and not only figuratively.)

But then eleven days ago his childhood best friend, Scott McCall, had been Bitten by Peter Hale.

The werewolf had been out of his mind at the time, drugged by a pretty face working for a rogue Calavera with some specialized strain of wolfsbane and made to go temporarily feral. An excuse for Hunters to “justifiably” attack the powerful Pack no doubt. Without his human side in charge to temper his ambitions — he was strong enough to become a Pack Alpha himself if he’d wanted to — the Left Hand of the Hales went looking for someone to Bite. His first Beta.

For some baffling reason he’d ended up going for Scott when he came across the veterinary student, who was entirely unsuitable for “the life,” walking with a date in the park. The terrified 21 year old managed to call Stiles just before he was actually attacked and when he was found by Isaac in some bushes soon after, bloody but healing, the Boss and Enforcer both knew exactly what was happening.

Isaac had been turned without consent himself several months before, but that Alpha had meant it as punishment for some slight, thinking either Stiles would turn on the new wolf or be killed by him. Instead he restrained Isaac with his power, threw him in a basement room, and slapped a silence rune on it. Then he made a concealment token to keep the change in status under wraps. They quietly figured it out with help from Alpha Satomi Ito, an old friend of Stiles’ mother, and once the blue-eyed wolf had learned enough control they took care of that asshole themselves.

It didn’t escape his notice that despite all of Scott’s issues with him following in his parents footsteps that it had been Stiles that he had called when his life was on the line. So it goes. They’d started growing apart after his mother was killed and the rift between them widened as they continued going through very different experiences. No matter how many times he tried to explain the concept of a power vacuum — that even if he, or previously his father, had wanted to run away from it all that more people would actually be hurt if they did so — Scott just couldn’t understand.

And so Stiles never even considered trying to bring him into to fold or tell him about Isaac being a wolf too. That he could find a pack here or that there were even ways to stick around without one. He called up Satomi and she had him on the way to some sleepy college town in Virginia within a handful of days.

Honestly, the whole situation was for the best for both of them. Scott could go be uncomplicated and enjoy his new lack of asthma with a laid back pack on the other side of the country and Stiles wouldn’t have to worry about him not being part of the Family, but possibly being targeted as an associate. There’d be no more sending anyone to babysit him from afar as he ambled about sketchy parts of Beacon City blissfully unaware of not being mugged either.

And so here he was. The Hales had contacted him apologetically once they realized what had happened and to whom and he’d let them stew for a few days before responding.

The barest smirk tugged at his lips as he observed the Alpha Heir, Laura Hale, attempt to discreetly scent his emotions, her nostrils flaring slightly as she feigned engrossment with the large painting taking up much of the wall behind his side of the table. The imagery of the Crooked Forest in Nowe Czarnowo on a misty morning was both deeply meaningful for him and an interesting conversation piece for the relatively few guests allowed within these walls. It would likely be quite some time before those gathered here returned again, if ever.

His amusement increased at the wrinkle deepening between her brows when she picked up nothing at all, huffing and turning to side-eye the short red-headed woman speaking with her younger sister, Cora, at the other end of the room. As far as those outside the Inner Circle of the Family knew (or Great Eight as Erica insisted,) Lydia Martin was the Stilinski emissary and responsible for any of their mage craft.

Dearest Lydia was indeed their emissary, his representative in matters both supernatural and mundane. She did also possess magic, though the exact nature of her abilities — that she was a banshee — was yet another closely guarded secret. But it was Stiles himself that created their magical implements, set their wards and, when need be, used his significant abilities to eliminate their threats.

The only people who’d witnessed him in action, enraged and eyes shining the rich burgundy of venous blood, were his most trusted Family and the soon to be dispatched recipients of said power. (The occasional innocent bystander didn’t count because their memories of the event would be wiped clean. He wasn’t entirely amonster.)

Aware of how requesting attendance by the entire Hale family, lowercase f, would seem an insultingly blatant trap he had sent a blood-spelled letter witnessed and effected by a Notary Mage. He, Isaac, and Lydia — the Head, the Hand, and the Voice of the Stilinski Family — had pricked their thumbs with the small ceremonial dagger and bled beside their signatures on the thick parchment, swearing that there'd be no violence against the Hales by them or those in their service, or with their foreknowledge, on pain of death.

For a span of 7 hours, equally before and after the meeting’s start time of noon, they could not strike. Unless the Hales attacked first, of course. They weren’t idiots.

Stiles still hadn’t been sure that they would come though, perhaps insisting on meeting in neutral territory instead. He would’ve agreed to that if he had to, but this made things so much simpler. More contained and less prone to erupt in violence or involve outside parties.

The Stilinskis and Hales weren’t formal allies, but they weren’t enemies either. Some minor altercations between underlings aside they had no quarrel with each other, even cooperating when their interests aligned from time to time or giving a heads up about some mutual rival.

The officiated blood-spell must’ve been enough for the Hale’s own emissary, Druid Alan Deaton to proclaim them safe enough even within another organization’s stronghold. The placid Black man in a forest green suit was currently observing everything from the sidelines and also keeping tabs on Lydia in particular. If he only knew.

In addition, they were allowed to bring a dozen soldiers with then; three were currently posted inside the room, two outside the door, and the other seven were split between the front and back entrances and on standby with their vehicles. He also knew, courtesy of his tech wizard, Danny, and head of security, Boyd, that the Steiner twins (jokingly referred to as Arts & Entertainment) were waiting with a small arsenal just beyond the property line about half a mile away in case things went south.

The heirloom oak and bronze grandfather clock chimed out the hour and the gathered werewolves turned to him expectingly, but he only looked toward the door and went back to reading the papers spread before him. With every minute after noon the tension grew and at 12:07pm Peter Hale finally broke the silence.

“Apologies,” he said, tone making clear that he wasn’t the one who should offer them. “But if we could start…”

Stiles raised an eyebrow. “Everyone hasn’t arrived yet.”

The four Hales looked at each other with surprise and discomfort. The druid’s gaze sharpened.

“You mean Derek and Malia? But wh—“ Peter began.

“Was the invitation not clear?”

“Yes, but they’re not really involved in this level of business,” said Laura, looking towards her mother as the Hale Alpha merely stared at him in silence.

Oh, I’m aware he thought disapprovingly, eyes intentionally flickering to the not-yet-18 year old Cora.

“Nevertheless, this matter affects them as well,” Stiles said, wearing what he hoped was a small, pleasant smile. “So if you could have them come per our agreement—”

“We would greatly appreciate it,” added Lydia, trying to soften the sharpness of his tone and keep things from devolving already.

The dark haired sisters shared an annoyed look as Peter sat tight-lipped in his seat. After several moments Talia broke eye contact and nodded to Laura. The Heir pulled out her phone and sent a few texts, snorting a minute later at the response.

“They said they could get here in about 25 minutes, but only by coming straight from the gym.”

Isaac looked over to him and chuckled.

“We promise not to take offense,” Stiles said, quickly banishing the thought of a flexing, sweat drenched Derek before it could fully form. “Refreshments will be served shortly in the meantime.”

He stood and nodded to Liam who’d been waiting near the entrance for any requests and the young soldier hurried to the kitchen.

“Excuse me while I attend to a few things in my office. Feel free to explore the library in the drawing room,” he said, gesturing to go through the archway on the right side and across the hall.

He walked over to Isaac on his way out. “Come get me when they arrive.”

Derek

He was at the power rack about to attempt a new single max low back squat when his and Malia’s phones chimed simultaneously. Always a good sign, Derek thought sarcastically as he let out a long sigh. What now?

His cousin, who had been racing on an elliptical nearby like an angry T1000 with John Connor in its sights, hopped off and grabbed her phone and water bottle as he continued to fume about the interruption, sure that his workout would be cut short.

Coming to the gym, like running beta shifted or blasting his music, was how he took the edge off the unmet needs and burned through the negative emotions that he lived with as a matter of course. The regular focus, control, and clearing of his mind also made it that much easier to mute the “outgoing” of his bonds and hide his interior world from the Pack’s scrutiny. Their well meaning, but frequently misapplied concern, especially his mother’s.

“They need us at the Stilinski meeting as soon as possible,” she said after reading the message.

Derek groaned and made a point of completing his lift, though his form was shaky in his annoyance. He’d heard of the letter “requesting” they all attend, but last night when he asked what time he should be ready to go he’d been assured that their presence wasn’t necessary. His presence, really. If she weren’t his usual bodyguard he bet they’d have taken Malia along. It wasn’t that he particularly wanted to go, but he resented being summarily excluded. Again.

Growing up, Derek had never felt like a stereotypical alpha and being months past his 16th birthday he’d been worried about presenting as a beta, who tended to take longer to reveal their secondary sex than alphas did. Not because he thought there was anything was wrong with betas, but because he knew what it would mean in his family. He didn’t want to be different. Othered.

Not once though did he imagine that he could be an omega. Between Hale genetics being what they were and the rarity of omegas in general (and male ones in particular) it was so beyond the realm of possibility that that particular fear hadn’t even crossed his mind. Then came that first humiliating heat.

Derek had been playing video games in the den downstairs when it started, not recognizing the first symptoms. Feeling just a bit off he’d taken a nap on the couch only to wake up a few hours later confused and burning up. Simultaneously very uncomfortable and extremely horny, not to mention damp where he’d never been before. It was frightening.

Ten year old Cora had wandered in to play with her action figures and been alarmed to see him sweaty and groaning and yelled that he looked really sick. Peter had been the first to investigate and after several moments of shock had started laughing and offered to find him a “knotty boy” in front of his now present and scandalized mother.

He’d ended up locked inside an interrogation room with an inflatable mattress and some sheets and a blanket. Laura ran out to hastily purchase some random toys for him and then put them inside with snacks and water, but no one came around to make sure he ate or drank for longer than was healthy. They hadn’t known better.

Every wolf born in the past four generations of the main Hale family, all 30 of the 37 descendants of his great-grandfather Desmond Hale who had presented before him, had been alphas. (So had the three since.) The only non-alphas in their bloodline had been the mates of those born Hales, mostly betas and a handful of alpha-alpha pairs. There were just two omegas over that time frame: the wife of one of his second cousins and a deceased great uncle-in-law.

His beta father, Aaron, had been “blamed” for the anomaly having had an omega grandfather as well as a baby brother and two female cousins in his family. He’d died from smoke inhalation saving a handful of strangers from a house fire several years before Derek presented and had been cut off from his family when he mated the infamous Talia Hale, so they’d had no close and trusted source of advice and firsthand information. Oh, they’d read articles and browsed web forums and asked Deaton (who was not at all well versed in the subject) about it, but his family simply hadn’t really known what to do with any omega, much less a male one.

They’d muddled through, but not without plenty of scars to show for it, mostly on Derek’s end. All of the times when they treated him differently and shouldn’t have, especially after he was kidnapped at 17 by a gang led by a supernatural-hating fanatic.

His mother had been overprotective before then, but when they got him back — bruised and traumatized, but before the worst had happened — he could barely take a piss without someone hovering nearby.

Derek was steered away from or outright denied any position that might put him “at special risk” as an omega, which was practicality everything of rank or actually interesting. He would not be trained to be Laura’s Second as was customary for the next born nor sent on missions or even errands. If he were more technologically inclined he could’ve worked his way up in Intelligence, but torrenting foreign tv shows and troubleshooting the wifi were about the extent of his abilities. Anything related to their less-than-legal operations were off-limits as well. Unsafe.

No, Derek’s contribution to the Pack was in “Procurement and Supply Management,” i.e. making sure that the Manor and their other private or commercial properties never ran out of pasta or printer ink or toilet paper and that the lights stayed on. He also sometimes floated around filling in for members in Document Control or Internal Mail or did grunt work for the accountants. Sterile and boring.

Conversely, the one area where they should’ve taken his omega status into account they regularly failed to do so. Acted as if the same level of physical bonding and affection they normally engaged in would be enough for him. At least some of the pack had learned that omegas required more, knew that intellectually, but habits being as they were it generally hadn’t been the case in practice.

After getting met with annoyed glances or told that someone would come by later and have them never show he simply stopped asking after a while. Cuddling with his sisters once or twice a week while watching movies or tv shows and the occasional touches from his mother had kept him going, but he’d been low to mid-level touch starved much of the time and occasionally worse.

Since presenting Derek always felt at least somewhat apart from the pack as whole. He’d been teased by Peter and the beta soldiers, Aidan and Ethan, who often accompanied him before Malia was of age. He’d overheard certain comments from several others and withdrew even further inside himself, becoming more and more skilled at locking himself away.

What was the point of letting on exactly how dissatisfied and disconnected he felt? Things wouldn’t actually change, there’d just be some grumbling and there-theres and attempts to fix him instead of the situation.

Things had definitely improved when Malia arrived and had been amenable to random cuddling, but he still held himself back from doing it as often as he wanted to in fear of being a burden.

No one had been more surprised that Peter had a child than the playboy wolf himself, an alpha coyote-wolf hybrid that had long since been abandoned by her mother. She’d been a hellion of a street kid, causing all sorts of mischief and lashing out while trying to survive, until one day she’d ended up hauled in before the crew leader in charge of protection.

There was something about her, perhaps certain notes in her scent or something vaguely familiar in her appearance or manner, that gave Finstock pause before delivering the standard beating — non-life threatening or severely damaging — for a shifter her age. The wild-haired Bitten wolf was eccentric and prone to randomly bringing up his lost testicle, but had an uncanny sense about things and kept order in the streets, neither too soft nor overly cruel. Inquires were made, fingerprints and DNA ran, and surprise, congratulations, it was a bouncing baby snarling 16 year old Hale!

It didn’t take long for her and the then 19 year old Derek to gravitate towards each other, coming from two very different upbringings, but both outsiders in their own way. Malia was trained up and when she turned 18 became his primary bodyguard and the rest was history.

“C’mon, lets’s bounce,” she said, poking him in the shoulder. “ASAP means ASAP.”

Hopefully the Stilinskis had been informed in advance and wouldn’t take their appearance as a slight.

“I guess so,” he muttered, wiping the barbell down quickly before tossing the towel in the used bin. They headed outside and he unlocked the black Camaro in the spot upfront reserved for him. Sliding behind the wheel, he strapped in and started it up as Malia pulled up the directions on her phone. Here we go.

Bokumono Survey Results

hello, a little while ago i made a bokumono survey and posted it to the ranch story discord, and then a while later i posted it here to tumblr! it received 102 responses! wow! check under the cut to see the results from it! it's a long one.

Age: 79.4% of responders were 19-30, 16.7% were 31+, and 3.9% were 14-18. No responders were 13 or under, which makes sense, given the survey was posted on two places that require you to be 13 or older. Mainline Games:

Wow that's a lot of bars! The most interesting pieces to me are the most played games and the least played games. The most played game is DS/DS Cute, followed by the Friends of Mineral Town remake, and then a tie between the original (More) Friends of Mineral Town, all versions of A Wonderful Life, and A New Beginning. And the least played is Hero of Leaf Valley, by a very notable amount. Only 12 people out of 102 played it! The next least are Harvest Moon 2 and 3 for the Gameboy Color.

Spinoffs:

Not many folks have played any of the spinoffs! Only 48 of 102 played at least one of them. The most popular is Puzzle de Harvest Moon, and, as expected the least popular were the Japan only Satellaview version of the first game, and the Japan only free to play browser game, with one person each. (Two separate people by the way! It wasn't just one person selecting everything) A note, Doraemon Story of Seasons 2 isn't here because I actually set this survey up and started taking responses before it was even announced! I just brought it to tumblr rather late.

Rune Factory:

Rune Factory 4 (or Special) has been played by more responders than every Bokumono game other than DS/DS Cute?? This was wild to me!

Natsume Harvest Moon:

Unsurprisingly, the first Natsume Harvest Moon is the most played. From my memory the attitude at the time was a cautious "Well we can give them a shot?" The least played is the mobile only entry.

Favorite Game: The graph for this is almost useless with just how many slices it has. Only 4 games weren't picked as at least one person's favorite, those being Harvest Moon Gameboy, Harvest Moon 2, Hero of Leaf Valley, and Grand Bazaar. The most favorite votes goes to Animal Parade, with 20.6%, followed by Wonderful Life with 14.7%, and Trio of Towns with 11.8%.

Least Favorite Game: Another graph with too many slices to be at all legible. Only 3 games weren't picked as someone's least favorite, those being Harvest Moon 2, Harvest Moon (More) Friends of Mineral Town, and Hero of Leaf Valley. It's amazing to me that 75 responders played (M)FoMT and not a single person said it was their least favorite. The most least favorite votes were given to Harvest Moon A New Beginning with 19.8%, followed by Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town with with 13.5%, and Harvest Moon Magical Melody with 11.5%.

Favorite Bachelor: Almost everyone gave a different answer! Wizard from Animal Parade had 11 votes! Gray had 10 votes and Cliff had 9, though many specified different games for them in which they liked them more, since they've both been in many.

Favorite Bachelorette: Again, almost everyone gave a different answer. Muffy had 12 votes, Nami had 11 votes, Celia had 8 votes. Yes, the top three were all A Wonderful Life Girls. No, Lumina did not get a single vote.

Favorite Part: Mostly different answers, but a whopping 39 people listed the social mechanics or characters as one of their favorite parts! 12 people said farming.

Least Favorite Part: Mostly different answers, but 7 people said fishing, and 7 said mining. Though some specified they only dislike mining in certain games, no such specification was made for fishing.

Rival Marriages: I figured this would be an interesting question as it's a mechanic that's been removed due to people not liking it. However, at least for these survey responders, that doesn't seem to be the case. 75.2% like the rival system, 15.8% like it in concept but haven't liked the execution or pairs in previous games, 6.9% would be okay with it as long as they can turn it off, and only 2% outright disliked it.

Special Candidates: 68.7% of responders like special candidates (such as Jamie, Inari, Wizard, etc), 25.5% don't mind having them around even if the special candidates aren't for them, 5.9% dislike the extra requirements that these candidates come with, and 1% don't like having special candidates in the game at all. There were also two write in answers, one saying they love them and their ridiculous requirements, and one saying that they love them but would like their genders to stop being changed to make the marriage straight (ie, Jamie and Inari) and yeah both of those are a mood.

Game Ending: 62.7% of responders are okay with Bokumono games having an ending as long as they can either keep playing afterwards or just avoid the ending, 14.7% are okay with it as long as it provides a new game plus option, 10.8% like the idea without caveats, 4.9% are neutral about it, and finally 2% dislike the idea no matter what.

Other Games: Finally, we have people listing what other games share the same charm as the Bokumono series to them! If you can believe it, the response that was put the absolute most was Stardew Valley, with 40 people saying it. 2 people specified that Stardew Valley did not share that same charm. 21 people said Animal Crossing. Some other semi popular responses were Fantasy Life for the 3DS, Spiritfarer, and interestingly, Fire Emblem. Oh and to the person who said Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, you win the survey /lh

So that's all! Thank you all for responding, and for the little jokes and whatnot you all wrote in. This was a lot of fun, and some of the responses were so kind out of nowhere and really made me smile. My favorite thing about Bokumono has always been the community, and this survey just put that into sharp focus. It's such a kind group. I hope this was as interesting to you all as it was to me.

A Fizziepop Take: Let’s talk about “the foulest imp you’ve ever seen” a.k.a. Striker

Ok, so I’ve already talked about how I love villains and morally gray characters in general as an opening to my last Fizziepop Take where I revealed my newfound love for the Helluva Boss queen of cruelty herself, Stella…. But you can’t expect me to go over all of that and completely ignore her little impish assassin Striker. I love villains and morally fucked up characters far too much to just not have fallen in love with the imp and his brutal western flair, but it made me start thinking about why I liked him and what made him a good villain and after some thought, I wanna talk about why Striker is a good bad guy, so let’s get into it!

If I had to rank my favorite Helluva Boss characters, I would probably say that Striker, despite only just becoming a recurring character, sits pretty high on the list… around number 3. Why? Because the man has all the makings of a grade-A villain. I know that in my last Fizziepop Take, I said that the reason I love Stella as a villain is because she’s got no other reason for being the way she is other than just enjoying it, but part of the reason I think I love Striker is because I love that he kinda has a reason for being the way he is. Granted, maybe he likes the way he is, and maybe he’s always been a little fucked, but he does have a reason for hating royals and although we don’t know exactly what it is yet, after seeing how imps tend to be treated in other scenes, it’s likely that his reasons for being so pissed is actually pretty valid. I love the whole forged in tragedy and hate trope for him because unlike Stella, Striker is a brutal killer with a lot of rage living inside him and I think there has to be a reason for that. No one is just born that enraged, not even an imp who we’ve assumed to be born in the ring of wrath.

Now, on the subject of the rage that seems to be planted deep within this character, we need to talk about how that rage manifests: sadistic brutality, and arrogance. Striker is someone who sees himself as far better than most others he stands beside at any given time, and he will take any and every opportunity to show off just how much better he is, which we see in his scenes with Moxxie as he goes out of his way to upstage the other imp at every turn; even going as far as adding a line in his song at the pain games that literally says “Moxxie go fuck yourself”, and giving Moxxie the nickname “little one” which carries over all the way into his reappearance in ‘Western Energy’.

In both ‘The Harvest Moon Festival’ and ‘Western Energy’, we also see the brutality and pure sadism he harbors as he fights. At Millie’s family farm, we see that Striker is able to take what seems to be a lot of damage in the moment and it barely slows him down, if anything, it seems to spur his rage in the moment as he attacks M&M, and we see his willingness to flip on Blitz when he passes on his offer to join Striker in his quest to kill the unkillable, even going as far as to make Blitz be the one to shoot at Moxxie when he comes to his boss’ aide, effectively using Blitz’s fondness of Moxxie against him since he knew having put a bullet through his employee and friend would have had a huge effect on founder of IMP. We see an even greater deal of ruthlessness in ‘Western Energy’ when Striker kidnaps Stolas as we watch him torment the Goetia prince with a blessed blade, and even threaten to blind the man, saying his “reds might make be a pretty trophy…”, this threat coming before he reminds Moxxie that he’s “easy to choke the life out of…” when M&M finally come to Stolas’ rescue.

Striker is a self-assured, prideful, vengeful motherfucker, and there’s so much to love about what that means for his character development and his future interactions with the IMP gang, Stolas, and maybe even other royals (like Stella and Octavia). And honestly, I think we may have a bit more sympathy the more of Striker’s background is revealed if Viv really does choose to take his character in the direction she’s set up with the entire monologue he fed to Stolas in ‘Western Energy’. I personally love a good sympathetic villain, especially one with Striker’s aesthetic and violent tendencies because it adds depth to the character in a softer way, a way characters like Stella always seem to lack which I find tends to leave them quite two-dimensional no matter how cruel and vile their actions make them as an antagonist. I feel like Striker already has more depth than the kiddie pool that is Stella, and I would love to see him continue to progress that way, even if he’s written to be a character we love to hate in the same way Stella seems to be….. Though, given Helluva Boss being written as a very male-centric show, I honestly don’t think Striker will be portrayed in as monstrous a way as the woman who hired him. I personally would like to see how Viv pulls that off since she has written an amazing rage and violence surrounding Striker’s character already so I think giving him a deeper storyline where he’s more humanized to the audience might be just a tad difficult. I’m trusting her process, as we all do when we tune in for each new episode, but as always, I cannot wait to see how she plays her cards here. I really hope Striker can stay one of my favorite characters as the series continues, and I hope the show can continue for a while.

If we're talking about UTMV, I have a massive crush on Dream (no surprises there 😅) but I'm also very fond of most versions of Underfell Sans, especially Farmfell Sans.

For other franchises, I actually think Alex from SV is really sweet once you get to know him, and I will forever be unable to pick between Gray and Cliff from Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons.

Oh, and not that I talk about it a lot, but TMNT 2003 Leonardo makes me swoon like a Victorian lady...

☀️ - What was your first Harvest Moon game?

Harvest Moon 64✨ I used to have so much fun with that one. I remember I always went to the neighboring barn and talk to Ann and Gray a lot, and gift the boy the flowers and fruit I found in the wild.

For a little extra random fact, everytime I saw the hands they reminded me of steamed buns filled with chocolate I had once. Kinda wish I could buy them again :')

💕 - Favorite bachelor/ette in the series?

I think I show this a lot, but I love both Ann/Ran and Cliff so much♡ I actually liked Ann since I played 64 but didn't pursue her, which is funny because I would actually be able to marry her instead lol And ever since I played Boy and Girl (Back to nature for girl) I immediately liked Cliff. To this day, I still feel bad for him because as soon as I saw him for the first time I couldn't even remember him from 64 and thought he was a new character like Mana ;u; but now I always go for him when I start a new game.

Other characters I like are Skye in ds Cute, for some reason I always like his type of character, and I think he has potential for redemption stories or something. I also like Nami, but I've never been able to know a lot of her since I only played ds Cute and I've never played A Wonderful Life. I also like Angelo from Grand Bazaar, though I've never got too far in that game.

🌾 - Crops or livestock?

Crops✨ I find them easier to manage and I would love to have plants irl just like my mother used to in our old house. I can't have anything in the place we live now though, and I'm a bit afraid of bugs, specially spiders (actually, I'm very scared of spiders lol), so I appreciate this type of games where I can have a farm or a pretty garden⁠✿⁠ I specially like the summer crops, I'm not sure why, I just like the sea of big red tomatoes and yummy corn.

I have quite a few! In a previous ask, I had mentioned Pastor Carter. Another favorite of mine is Saibara. I first found myself interested in learning more about him when he was shopping in town and mentioned how hard things were when he first became a widower and had to learn to do everything all on his own. He didn't sound like he was complaining, but I remember the words and expression seeming really sad. He's definitely too rough on Gray in some respects, but he really does mean well. We catch instances of him telling the main character how he wants to make sure he can teach his grandson as much as he can before he leaves this world, and I just get such a lonely vibe from him. Thus, it is my mission to befriend him, hehe. He might seem gruff on the surface, but there are times when he's actually really gentle, and I love that.

💐 - Most overrated bachelor/ette in your opinion?

Uh-oh, time for an unpopular opinion, hehe. I know that my reason for this is based on the times that I used to read fanfiction and also for the way I write this character. I do love writing this character and there are so many interesting facets to write.

Sorry, y'all, but I've gotta go with Popuri on this one (Mineral Town Popuri in particular).

Things have changed in the fandom/fanfiction world for the Bokumono series, and I feel like there is a larger variety out there, but several years ago, I distinctly remember 90% or so fics featuring the bachelorettes to have Popuri. There are so few fanfictions that feature bachelorettes as opposed to bachelors, so it was easy to feel oversaturated by Popuri.

I have learned to appreciate her more over the years, but I feel that her events have some of the weakest writing in the GBA games. I really liked that in Back to Nature, her first event is her running off to cry after leaving the chickens outside and a coyote gets to them. It really showcases that she's still learning about chickens. I guess they replaced it with a runaway chicken in the GBA games so that it wasn't as dark(?) but I think it really lacks that punch that she's a novice and a little immature. Plus we missed out on some great expressions, like the one below!

I feel that the entire Chicken Li'l/Popoultry family could have had some more impactful events. But I guess that's what fanfiction is for - write the stuff you want to see, hehe.

☘ - Which game was the most fun in your opinion?

Oooh, this is a HARD one. My favorite parts of the games are the farming sim aspect, and I love how Back to Nature/Mineral Town have everything accessible with no hand holding. If you wanna save your money to buy a ridiculous golden lumber fence, that's your choice. It's not something you have to wait several seasons to come into stock. The speed of the day feels just right to me. I have to carefully plan what I want to get done. I remember playing Grand Bazaar and adoring the Bazaar portion, but it was the first one I played with the slower timer, one second per minute. I like to milk as much as I can out of each day, so I would just end up jumping in the water over and over in hopes of getting a piece of ore and using up all the stamina that I had left over because the game was too easy in that respect. I think I like the events in Back to Nature/Harvest Moon for Girl more than the handheld Mineral Town games, so my vote's going to go for Back to Nature/Harvest Moon for Girl. If only you could play after marrying as a girl! I'm still frustrated at that. I really would've loved a remake of those games. They could have taken out all of the casual sexism in For Girl and kept all those fun extra festivals, like the Tomato Festival, the Goddess Festival, and special events like Ann's birthday party.
