I have a chapter update for In Your Arms that's nearly done 👀
“So,” Garrus finally said, “What are you wearing?”
She hesitated for a split second, then glanced down at herself and said, “Um, white shirt, black pants, work boots—”
“Smart-ass,” he said affectionately.
“What are you wearing?”
“A suit,” he replied simply.
“What color suit?”
“Black.”
“Why not blue?”
Brat, he called her with narrowed eyes and a flick of his mandible.
Well, he could play games too He gave her a look to make her knees weak. “Black makes my colony markings pop,” he purred. “Why? You wanna see me in blue?”
With the widest grin she turned away from him to stare at the traffic zipping by. Headlights flashed over her, giving her hair the effect of dancing flames. “Makes sense,” she said like her tone was balancing on a beam.
The blush on her cheeks, the grin too wide to hold in, that was for him, because of how she felt for him and what he could do to her with some simple teasing. He had the sudden urge to provoke her further, make her burst for him, admit everything she felt in that moment not because he couldn't guess what she felt, simply because he wanted to hear it spoken.
“I’ll wear blue for you next year,” he said. He adjusted his tone, direct and deep, to rein in the brat inside her. “Now, what are you wearing?”
Her chest swelled and she bit her lip. When she finally looked back at him, her chin dipped. “Maybe it can be a surprise,” she mumbled with a soft breath that made his heart swell right up against his keel.
