This is all code for she is crappy at exhaling. All smokers are NOT created equal. Some enjoy the habit and the act and rituals of smoking more than others; some are better at it than others. Do not know Sohan's deal with smoking. It is as if she is too embarrassed to let fly with a proper or forceful exhale. Maybe not capable for some reason or reasons.

Tatty makes me hope that Taylor is already booking dates to work on her movie so she can release the re-recorded albums over the next two years, and be too busy to release ts11 and all that goes with making an era out of it. You know, give her time to break up with him, have everyone forget it happened, have heaps more life experiences and a new relationship to gush over instead… like when we thought rep would have calcium break up songs but it was just Joe love songs ans her persona of a bad bitch. Let’s just skip matty and get to the good bits :) lol

also that isn’t meant to dehumanise her or do the dollhouse thing, but I just couldn’t spend money on, or willingly seek out her music whilst they are together and he does what he does. That profile in the New Yorker could have been an opportunity to at least try to clarify that he wasn’t a piece of 💩 and instead he leaned into it and was like ‘pfft faux woke people are just mad over nothing 🙄🚬’

I feel like Tay is going through it and I’m trying to give her the benefit of the doubt that this is part of her going through it…. But if it turns into something bigger, and not a starved-of-attention-rebound-with-the-opposite-of-your-ex type thing, then idk if I would even want to listen to her new music :/

One step closer to Anonymity going absolutely head over heels bonkers for Iroha. I'm unfortunately quite confident that they won't be endgame, that'll almost definitely be Toshusai if anyone, but god damn if Anonymity ain't the cutest option

I mean look at her! She's blushing up a storm the entire time, notably more so when she hears Iroha licking the paper. Wonder what went through her head in that moment?

Aside from just gushing about how cut my new favorite couple is, I don't feel like I have a ton to dwell on in this chapter. The main focus I guess is how fun of a protagonist Iroha is and the layers to his character that we get to see here

He's brash enough to go running into danger for a friend, but not so foolhardy that he doesn't set up an escape route beforehand. He's confident and quick to draw conclusions as we've seen in the past, but again as we've seen, this is both a strength and a weakness, as it can often mean that he's reached the wrong conclusion (in this case, assuming that Hakanage is the guard). He can be bashful, but not shameful, standing behind his decisions even if others ridicule him for it

I'm not sure what the general consensus on Iroha is, but I find him extremely charming and endearing. He's a bit of a dope, but he's got a good head on his shoulders and a good heart in his chest. And he's a little bit of a simp. I can sympathize with that

That type of personality is common among harem protagonists, so I think this reinforces the idea that Cipher Academy is eventually going to become a parody of harem manga. The unique part though is the subtle implication that Iroha actually finds the other girls attractive, rather than either being completely unaware of the women he's constantly around or staunchly focused on one specific girl when every other one is constantly breathing down his neck. I think he'd be surprised to learn that any of the girls have a crush on him, but I think he'd be a lot more...I don't know, normal about it than any given harem protagonist would be. Again, he'd be bashful, but he wouldn't act like it completely changes his entire worldview or anything

I also appreciate that Iroha isn't just generically nice; he actually says some pretty rude things offhandedly a lot of the time, and he can be pretty assertive when he wants to be. We've already seen him be influenced by the crueler natures of his classmates, so I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the series he becomes a bit more ruthless (not evil or anything, just willing to go a bit further than one might expect). That's not the kind of character arc you would expect from a harem protagonist, they usually soften up over time if anything

While I find the "kind guy who helps everyone" to be a perfectly reasonable archetype for a harem protagonist, I think that Iroha is surprisingly a little more believable as someone who would attract the attention of a lot of women, at least in this context. He's kind and capable, but he's also a little airheaded, which allows him to think creatively, which further helps him stand out from the rest of his classmates. He's a bit pathetic at times, but he's also earnest; he makes people want to support him, whether it's to validate his desire to succeed properly or to protect the perceived weaker member of the group. He's unique, he's weird, he's nice, he's dumb, and more importantly, he's surrounded by women who are motivated to achieve, so his base submissive demeanor is probably attractive to them (and his ability to switch to a confident demeanor probably doesn't hurt)

Anyway, I do love that we got an explanation for why Class F was cutting up weeds earlier. I thought they were just being intimidating to ward off anyone who would try to steal their tails, but nope, they were cleverly creating paper to take advantage of a loophole in the rules. I never would have thought to do something like that, but leave it to Nisio to make it work

The other thing of particular note is Hakanage's statement that she "tortured out a ton of lines that [she] wanted to hear." I'm assuming that she means getting to see Anonymity's tsundere act, since we know that she's affiliated with Class F in some way, but I wonder if perhaps she got Iroha to let something important slip in the process? Or if perhaps the insults that Anonymity threw at Iroha were actually codes to transmit information to Hakanage? We still don't know what their relationship is, but I'd be a fool to blindly trust Anonymity

Who knows when we'll find out more about it, but for now we're about to get a look at how Iroha knows Yonakiuguisu, which should be an interesting development for his character arc. It should also be fun to see how Anonymity responds to being the only one privy to whatever that new information is, assuming that we actually get any this time and not just another vague hint of what's to come down the line

Final note: if this series does become a harem manga, I truly hope that Iroha gets the poly ending. I don't want any of the girls who like him to be left out, I'm so attached to all of them already. If he can't though, then just give me Anonymity, she's the best

4. if you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

i would love to see Richard in an official comic or animated short. i really wish we got to see it in one of the hlm2 comics, and i think some sort of official animation revolving around one of the hallucination sequences would be so fun, especially if it were in the style of like, 70s-80s Vince Collins animations

12. what's a headcanon you have for this character?

so many... for one that isn't suuper personal to the point that it's uncomfortable to talk abt, i've always interpreted it as autistic, specifically because of its, in my opinion, lack of empathy. i do believe it cares for most of the people it speaks to in various ways, but it has a complete inability to empathize with their actions, which leads to it sometimes being mean, although i don't believe that's *entirely* intentional.

13. what's an emoji, emoticon, or any other symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?

aside from the obvious 🚬🐔, i also associate it with ☀️ and the sitelen pona glyphs for suno and jelo! and of course the :^ emotion with any sort of mouth. i see the ^ as a beak n_n
