If you were stuck in the multiverse, you’d probably come across different versions of yourself. But what about different versions of other people you know?

This is kinda the idea that if in the cannon timeline, Mable is pulled into the portal, an alternate universe would have Dipper pulled into the portal. But I couldn’t have Dipper fall into the portal without adding a bit of flare so why not cross it with Reverse Portal?

my Reverse Portal AU Ford.

Dr. Ford Pines is a reclusive, haphazard and rather anxious man known for his mysterious cabin in the woods which he has since converted into a tourist trap serious institute of scientific learning or Gravity Falls' (second and far less impressive) museum. It is very popular with schools and confused tourists who think they are getting entertainment not a lengthy lecture on moths or woodpeckers. Not to mention the local teenagers who enjoy tormenting and vandalising the place (and refuse to pay for a ticket).

Dr. Crackpot Pines stubbornly refuses to entertain any claims of the supernatural or answer question about the many ridiculous urban legends that plague this town. Neither will he explain those mysterious lights that once came from his cabin or what happened to his poor assistant. Or, you know, where the fluorescent goo on his jacket came from.

Of course, that was all before his great niece and nephew are sent off to visit him one summer...

I am CONSIDERING making a follow-up video to my Gravity Falls AU fandom deep-dive analysis from last year.

AUs covered in the 2023 video include: Timestuck AU, Monster Falls AU, Reverse Falls AU, Relativity Falls AU, Transcendence AU, Blind Faith (and Reverse Portal) AU, Drifting Stars (and Grifting Stars) AU, and the One of Us AU.

I'm thinking about making a follow-up covering any AUs I missed, though it depends on interest. Also, I intend to focus on AUs that were a collaboration, like Monster Falls or Timestuck and Blind Faith, where multiple people wrote and drew for it.

And Here's a little reference for Portal-swapped!Ford

A few additional HCs that didn't fit in the Image!

-While he does tell the twins about his discoveries (especially Dipper since he's very interested in them) He never says anything about the journals

-Dipper still finds Journal 3 (Although this happens much later than in the original Story)

-once Ford finds out about it he comes clean about writing it Although He keeps out everything alluding to the portal and even rips out the pages about it

-Ford is Close to both twins but does more things with Dipper (much like Stan was more in Line with what Mable did in the series)

-Ford contemplates for a Long Time If he should reopen the portal to bring back stan or if He should just destroy it

-spending time with the Twins and seeing the Bond they have actually makes him descide to reopen the Portal

This took an unbelievable amount of time to do, partly because I couldn't make it make sense and partly cause of exams and general lack of motivation to do anything recently.

This is supposed to be the split of universes when it comes to drifting stars and reverse stars. I tried to resemble that with colour only; showing how it started off the same (with the small difference of Ford and Stan being the great uncle on earth at the time) and then split when either Dipper fell in the portal or when he pushed Mabel in. But only colour didn’t work so I added the glass cracking to show how it split and to add dramatic effect.

so @fordtato's really good Gravity Falls AUs video essay came out, 10/10 recommend, but it also hit me with a huge wave of fandom nostalgia — and reminded me of an old AU I never wrote but thought about a lot, where Dipper and Mabel fall into the portal together, but without a responsible adult, and just...

...idk, get bounced around between various Portal Fords, and Portal Stans, and team-ups of Ford and Stan — all from different AUs, at different ages, and different stages of reconciliation with each other? like, sharing custody of these two kids, keeping them safe and passing them on to another qualified Grunkle as needed. really, whatever they thought would bring Dip and Mabel closer to getting home :)

it was cool to me because 1, so many potential different character dynamics to explore, and 2, the kids would start out not knowing Stan and Ford's whole backstory, and have to piece it together only by information they wring out of emotionally constipated men from parallel universes — some of which have a lot of overlap with theirs, and some of which don't.

like, they're running into classic Reverse Portal Stan, some of both Grunkles, Grifting Stars-style, and hell, maybe even some traumatized fucking Blind Faith lads — all of which who'd have some information applicable to the kids' home dimension — but what about when they run into a Ford and/or Stan from Mystery Trio?

what about if they run into a Ford and Stan who aren't even human? what about if they run into Relativity Falls versions of themselves? I'm so mad at my past self for never writing this because the possibilities are truly endless

this one is hard bc it depends on what AU he's in

relativity falls: its HARD to think about bc so many things would be moved XD especially with the triplets being already a very moved au. mabel and dipper would be their aunt and uncle, with filbrick marrying kari still as their parents (so the twins and filbrick are siblings, making their mom have 2 pair of twins lmao)

filbrick would want a free summer away from the lil shits with kari only dealing with baby shermie. thought itd make them more men to be away from their mom too. Ford would found Dipper's journal and Mabel would bond with her nephews until dipper is back, who FREAKS OUT seeing seb's eye bc BILL! Sebs powers were also activated in town and Ford and Stan had so much fun exploring them with seb, until dipper said what this meant and they got scared of him. Mabel defended her crying nephew. weirdmageddon still happened, but the triplets relationship had been breaking way before

reverse falls: i dont understand the au tbh. i guess hed be confused if his family is evil? but with no moral compass, hed enjoy causing chaos with ford n in some way tourture will with ford bc hes a bitch xd

monsters falls: sebs a manticore. i think this is more of a vibe than an au xd

gravity rises: ford would have lost seb n stan in the portal i guess while watching over hyperactive dip and paranoid mabel.

same coin au: hed just VIBE with stan bc hed GET him! both being reincarnations of bill. theyd use their powers together and be badasses. ford was so in awe to have such cool brothers {after being terrified of both xd}
