The Age of Dragons
Chapter 12: Epilogue
Several years have passed by and Theo, along with everyone else, decides it’s time to see the dragons again.
Several years since last we spoke...
Theo Cornaro, the people’s hero, was on a boat. Not one of those fancy naval boats he would’ve been in years past, but rather a small fishing boat that the people of Sistina use for their fishmongers. It was just big enough for the people Theo decided to bring along with him for this journey.
“Theo...are you sure about this?” As the young man was facing the open seas, he turned around to see his wife looking at him. Siluca looked a bit queasy, and he knew it was her sea sickness. However, he also knew about another concern of hers.
“Yes. I’ll keep us all safe. Don’t worry.” He promised while looking at her before turning his attention to three smaller figures behind her.
Their children; two twin boys and a little girl.
Then Theo turned to look back at his other companions who he invited on this short adventure. Lassic and Moreno were here, happily leaving their duties to accompany Theo. Aishela was here too, upset that she had to leave her husband, Petr. Luna and Emma were here; older now and have just come from visiting their family. Kat and Irvin were there as well, with him holding a small one-year-old girl.
“Do you even know where you’re going?” Aishela questioned the green-haired man with narrowed eyes and hands on her hips.
“Yeah...is sailing into that storm a good idea?” Kat added while pointing uneasily towards the dark clouds that were forming farther out with flashes of lightning here and there. The waves rocked the boat a bit, causing parents to flounder to their children. Siluca held onto them while giving her husband a look. However, Theo just smiled wide with fondness in his eyes.
“Yes. I’m positive that the storm is where we need to go.” He said as they continued to be pushed in that direction.
“Mommy...where are we going again?” Theo’s young daughter was holding onto her mother for dear life when she looked up and asked her mother the question.
“To...visit an old friend of daddy’s.” She told her fondly while grabbing her boys with her other hand. Soon, they were in the midst of the storm, which would appear as a death sentence for any sailor.
However, Theo just watched the clouds with hope. Soon, a dark shape revealed itself with an ear-splitting warning roar.
A large black dragon soon appeared at the bow of the ship. Its large black wings pushed strong winds in their direction, nearly causing the boat to fill with water. It flapped them strongly, and its bright green eyes glowed menacingly as it hissed at them, revealing sharp and pointed teeth. An eerie purple crackling glow came from its mouth, ready to strike, and its long thin barbed tail twitched in agitation.
Everyone panicked at the sudden appearance. Siluca hid the children behind her, whispering soothing words to them as she kept her eyes on the beast. Moreno was holding onto Lassic dearly, wishing desperately he had his magic back. Aishela and the twins held their ground while Irvin handed Kat their daughter, shielding them.
However, Theo was the only one who remained calm, gently holding out a hand to the black dragon who didn’t appear to recognize them.
“Zaphrael...surely you remember me?” Theo slightly begged the dragon, who looked more ready to destroy them then greet them. His green eyes narrowed as he tilted his head. The aggression was still there, but the storms cleared to show sunlight and blue sky.
Theo looked relieved, but then the boat rocked violently as a man, reflecting the dragon’s appearance, suddenly landing on the boat.
“It’s me...Theo...you must remember. I helped you...we were friends...” Theo said as a scowl and suspicious gaze still rested on Zaphrael’s face. It reminded Theo of when they first met; the anger the dragon held. His bright green gaze slid over to the others.
“It’s gonna be okay...” Siluca whispered to her children, hiding them behind her more as Zaphrael took a couple of threating steps towards Theo, who held his ground. They held each other’s stares for quite a while before, at a speed quicker than light, Zaphrael lunged at the man.
“Theo!” Lassic shouted in fear as the dragon...
...wrapped his arms around the young man in a hug.
“Today is truly a blessed day...to see you again, my friend.” Zaphrael whispered while holding the human man tightly. After the shock wore off, Theo hugged him back. It’s probably the most affectionate gesture he’s ever received from the dragon.
“You see...that’s daddy’s friend.” Siluca whispered as Zaphrael and Theo broke the hug. The children poked their heads out from behind their mother as everyone else watched from afar. Upon hearing her voice, Zaphrael looked in her direction, and his jaw dropped slightly upon seeing children that donned green and blonde hair.
He walked towards them slowly as they also, at a snail’s pace, came out from behind their mother. Zaphrael sensed their fear and got down on one knee as to not scare them further. He studied their faces as they crept towards him. The boys were a blend of their parent’s features, but the girl looked like an exact replica of her father.
Zaphrael held his hand out to them with a smile and one of the boys, the bravest, reached out to touch it.
Soon, smiles appeared on everyone’s faces, the children’s most of all as they rushed to meet this friend of their father.
“Zaphrael...these are my kids. Villar and Carlo, and the little girl is Priscilla.” Theo introduced them, and Zaphrael softened his gaze. He never would’ve expected this man he had marked so long ago to have come this far.
“You truly are the richest man alive Theo...” He stated while standing up to flash his friend a smile. Theo smiled back just as another roar cut through the skies. Everyone looked up to see a white dragon, along with a gold one, fly about the boat. Three tiny dragons followed behind them.
“Tyra!” Theo shouted in glee as he waved. She flashed him what he could only assume was a grin as she went to stationarily fly beside the boat.
“Kulvera...” Siluca said with a smile.
“Hello, my dear. It’s a joy to see everyone again.” The gold dragon responded as he went to fly beside the other dragon. The three tiny dragons, a mish mash of black and white, squealed and flew around everyone’s heads. Moreno shrieked slightly while Lassic laughed. Irvin and Kat’s daughter tried to grab at one, and Theo’s children got engulfed by little wings and claws.
“Theo, these are my children. Meismer and Vortex,” Zaphrael gestured to the larger mostly black male dragonlings. Then he gestured to the smaller white one with black horns that resembled her mother’s: “and Prism, my little girl.”
The children and dragon babies played around on the boat. The parents watched with glee as the younger of their generations got along and met, understanding the bond that their parent’s share.
“Shall you join me for another flight, my friend? We can take you safely home.” Zaphrael asked Theo, who nodded after getting the okay from everyone else.
Then, Zaphrael reverted back to his true form, and everyone hopped on a dragon.
Theo and his daughter Priscilla were the only ones on Zaphrael, her laughs of delight amusing even the black dragon. Siluca, her boys, the twins, and Aishela were on Tyra’s back. Lassic, Moreno (who didn’t like this one bit), Irvin, Kat, and their child were on Kulvera. The three babies flew around their parents, occasionally moving to play with the children on their parents’ backs.
So, while the magic and demons may be gone from the world, Theo Cornaro was still a hero. Him appearing back in Sistina from the back of a dragon proved that. He was also glad to see that his dragon friends were still around, even though they disappeared beyond the horizon just like before when it was time for them to leave. However, Theo knew that this was far from the last time of seeing them.
As he raises his children, and lives life with his friends and family, he swears he hears roaring coming from beyond the sea.
And each storm makes him think of his dear old friend.

Hitchhiker
Famous actress Siluca Meletes is on her way to an interview when she happens upon a stranger in need of a ride.
It was a rather stormy evening as Siluca made her way down the road. Well, she sat in the back of the car as her bodyguard, Irvin, drove. Siluca’s face was only lit up by the light of her phone as she scrolled through her social media. Her sister Aishela had texted her to be careful, and to not talk to any strange men.
She wasn’t expecting the car to suddenly grind to a halt.
“What’s going on?” Siluca asked in a panic, not being able to see much from where she was. That, and the headlights could only shine through so much darkness and rain.
“A man ran in front of us. In fact...he’s still there.” Irvin said, readying his holster in case this stranger meant any harm. However, Siluca did catch sight of a young man leaning against the hood of their now parked car. He was frantically waving, looking rather distraught.
“Roll down the window.” Siluca ordered, and Irvin gave her a bewildered look.
Come again?” He asked.
“Roll down the window. Let’s see what he wants.” She repeated, and Irvin did as she asked. Rolling down the window that would be where shotgun sits, Siluca poked her head up just as a very drenched man came towards the window.
“Hey...sorry about that. Look, I hate to ask this but can I have a ride? You’re the only car I’ve seen in a long while.” The man, looking rather sheepishly, ran a hand through his dripping green hair. Irvin and Siluca shared a look, both uncertain about this.
The stranger started to sweat more when he noticed the distrust, and not to mention Irvin readying his gun.
“Uh...My friends thought it would be funny to just ditch me here, so-” He started to ramble, but Siluca cut him off.
“Where would you need to go?” She asked, and he blinked a bit.
“It’s not far...Just an apartment complex that’s in the city a couple hours that way.” He pointed in the direction that Siluca was currently headed.
“What a coincidence, I’m going that way as well.” She said, and his eyes looked hopeful. Siluca closed her eyes and hummed for a second before finally telling Irvin to unlock the door.
“Thank you so much!” He said as he slid in the backseat beside her. Siluca had to admit, he looked innocent enough with his eyes and that smile of his. However, she quickly shook those thoughts out of her head.
“I’m Siluca Meletes by the way.” She greeted politely.
“And the man who wanted to kill me?” The stranger asked as he noticed Irvin continuing to watch him from the rear-view mirror while somehow still driving perfectly straight.
“That’s Irvin, my bodyguard.” All her words suddenly sunk in for him.
“Bodyguard? Are you important?” He asked, and she pouted before looking surprised. He didn’t know who she was? He sheepishly stated how he doesn’t watch too many movies, but only knew her name because his friend, Moreno, has a small crush on one of her characters.
“I’m Theo. Theo Cornaro.” He said, and her eyes widened.
“The son of Carlo? The one who owns that big lumber company up north?” She asked in surprise, and he nodded sheepishly.
“What are you doing in the city?” She asked him out of curiosity.
“I wanted a change of scenery. To start my own company.” Theo told her, and she nodded in understanding. The ride continued on like that, asking questions about each other’s lives. Siluca felt more comfortable knowing this hitchhiker wasn’t some weirdo, but actually the son of a really impressive man.
“By the way, you said your friends just abandoned you on the side of the road?” Siluca asked, and he laughed at that.
“Oh yeah, my friends Villar and Lassic were drunk and thought it would be a hilarious idea to leave me out here in the middle of the night. My friend Alexis, who was driving, told them he was not pulling over to allow them to do this. But you know how drunks are...so they pushed me out of moving vehicle.” Theo said, and against her better judgment, Siluca laughed.
“Why didn’t you just call your friend to come get you?” She asked him, and he winced.
“...I may have slipped in the mud and broken my phone.” He explained, and she nodded in understanding before mentioning he could’ve used hers.
“I wouldn’t want to use a lady’s phone unless I had to.” He politely told her, causing her to blush.
As Irvin mentioned that they were nearing Theo’s destination, Siluca couldn’t help but feel a bit saddened by that. Her ride was so boring until he showed up, and now, she might never get to see him again. Soon, after Theo told Irvin where to go, they pulled up alongside of a brightly lit up building.
“This was fun...will I ever see you again?” Theo asked, saying her own thoughts out loud as he stepped out of the car and leaned against the door.
Siluca quickly came up with a solution, and wrote down her number, handing it to him.
“Call me sometime. After you fix your phone.” She said with a smile and a giggle. Theo blushed at her words before taking the number and nodding eagerly.
“I will...Thank you so much for your help...Now, I need to have a word with my friends.” As Theo said this, Siluca noticed a group of young men standing by the entrance of the building. When Theo walked over to them, they started to wolf whistle and make remarks on how he has a girlfriend now.
Theo turned scarlet at that, but it didn’t stop him from turning towards Siluca’s moving car and giving it a wave.
She continued to look out her window as the green-haired man grew smaller and smaller in her foggy window. Soon, it disappeared entirely as Irvin drove deeper into the city to get Siluca to where she will be staying for the evening. Still, the young woman couldn’t stop herself from sighing.
“My lady, should I pick up strange men more often?” Irvin asked in a teasing manner, a slight smirk on his face.
“S-Shut up and drive, Irvin.” Siluca replied with a bright red face. Irvin could only chuckle to himself at the reaction he got out of her. And as for Siluca, well, she couldn’t complain about this night’s events.
Especially when she got a text the next day.
