okay for the dashboard osmosis thingy: i gotta go twenty one pilots because i'm the person that i am, but i'm also gonna go Psych as well maybe?? (ur right it was really hard to try to think of one for you, esp one i could fact check lol)
(from this ask meme)
ahh ok, osrry for the wait, i been a busy bee, but here we go!
21p is not an amount of money in the uk (ok, well it is) but it’s also a duo of two best buds named tyler joseph and josh... something with a d maybe? durran?? i feel like googling would be cheating, and admittedly i only remember tyler’s surname bc of ur thing last night lol
anyways, so they are two best buddos and one of them is really cute with his wife, i wanna say josh but it might actually be tyler.. i think wife’s name starts with a j, like jenna or jess, and theyre like really cute #relationship #goals, like best friends in love, so that is real cool and nice! (and i also know tyler has 3 younger sibs, but u are also the only reason i know this so i wont go into that )
and idk their type of music, like.. i wanna say alternative, but that is a pretty easy generalization lol. i know one song was a vid of one of them strumming a ukulele and singing on his ownsome to increasingly bigger groups, i think i reblogged it like 500 years ago without knowing who it was, but i have since remembered/recognized it, (also i think it was a cover of i cant help falling in love with u)
and their fandom is relatively smol i think, like 1d really is an anomaly compared to the rest of bandom, in terms of the amount/variety of fanworks created, even for bands i thought were really famous and stuffs it’s like way different? (i was curiously googling panic! and fob’s fandoms the other night actually and 21p popped up a few times as like a crossover thing with them, which i thought was interesting, tho i dont know how much theyre actually linked irl?)
anyways, being a smaller fandom is probos not a bad thing tho! i imagine its got a bit more cozier, intimate feel and in an ideal world there’d be an awful lot less drama too, so i hope that is the case.
i also think that 21p fanworks are less likely taken for granted bc theyre more rare, like i feel like fans are more likely to leave comments than jsut a like or a kudos, yunno? bc they really appreciate every bit they get :)
(also lol, i rlly didnt intend for this to be as long as the les mis one but whoops)
-
and then there’s psych, which im quite annoyed to notice has been taken off of netflix now >: (i never actually saw all of it, just watched a bunch of epis in random order)
psych centers around unofficial (im p sure? cos gus also worked at a pharmaceutical company too) detectives and life long (as shown by lots of flashbacks) bffs shawn and gus, the latter of whom shawn always comes up with super ridiculous fake names for when theyre interviewing witnesses and whatnot (his name is actually burton guster tho), but that was one of the running gags
psych is a fairly light crime show, like theres murder mysteries and whatnot, but theres also lots of good banter between the leads (esp shawn n gus) and jokes and
and their main dealio is that shawn is a psychic, even tho he actually is Not, hes just extremely observant and (sometimes) smart, and gus is in on the con too, and they work for the police station together, and theres also a cop named lassy except thats not rlly his name its a nickname but i dont rmr his actual one, and his partner julia/jules, who was in a very slow build romance with shawn over the like.. 5? 7? seasons it had, it was a good big amount, & i think it had a very good build and character development n stuff bc of that, i get the feeling it was lucky enough to have a natura run of things, im pretty sure it wasnt cancelled when it ended, like it got to do everything it wanted with the storylines n stuff before it decided to wrap up? and there was a lot of different stuff in the episodes, they werent all just typical solving mystery stuffs
but fandom wise again, i think itd be quite small in terms of fanworks produced about it? it doesnt rlly seem like the type of show to have much fanfiction written about, altho im willing to bet that shawn and gus, like any pairing involving a black guy and a white guy, dont get shipped together hardly at all despite all their screen time and chemistry together. (and yes ik julia/shawn canon, but thats never stopped shippers before, so.) actually i bet shawn and lassie are one of the bigger pairings in fanfic, tho again, i dont think psych would have much in the way of that somehow?
anyways, i rmr it was goofy but enjoyable, and there were lots of episodes that made homages to other things, actually i think im gonna go try2 find an ep to watch rn tbhh, except Not on netflix anymore i guess !

The Harvest
Original Australian air date: probably the same day as Welcome to the Hellmouth or a week later. I don’t know.
Written by: Joss Whedon
Directed by: John T. Kretchmer
Starring: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon, Anthony Head, Charisma Carpenter, Kristine Sutherland, Julie Benz, and David Boreanaz
Oh, hello. It’s What Buffy Wore season 1, episode 2, in which Buffy prevents her first apocalypse while simultaneously being grounded by her mum.
Tumblr media
I genuinely cannot remember if this episode screened straight after Welcome to the Hellmouth. It did in the US, but I have no idea if Australia followed suit. I googled it for about five minutes and decided it probably doesn’t matter. Plus, I’m kind of in pain with gastritis, which incidentally is probably the sexiest stomach issue you can have.
The good news with this episode is that there are three outfits. The bad news is that they’re not great.  There are highlights (Buffy’s hair) but some real lowlights (not Buffy’s hair – more like, pants and jackets).
 To the recap!
We left Buffy at the end of Welcome to the Hellmouth in a coffin at the mercy of Luke, a huge ass vampire dude. I don’t have to say spoiler alert, right?
In a joyous turn of events (or subtle continuity error), it turns out Buffy has put on the cross necklace her stalker (ahem, love interest) gave her and it burns the vampire, distracting him enough to allow Buffy to escape and rescue two-thirds of her new friends. Soz, Jesse. But before you can say vampires exist, Buffy discovers the Master is planning on sending Luke as his representative or whatever to the Bronze, where the teens go, to drain enough blood to make him strong enough to leave his mystical underground prison/lair.
After trimming some dead weight from the Scooby gang (soz Jesse), Buffy and friends stop the Harvest by very slowly fighting some vampires and killing Luke with a great fake-out.
But who cares about that! What was Buffy wearing?
Here we see the cycle of school outfit and Bronze outfit repeated. But then, bonus! One more school outfit.
  Outfit 1
Tumblr media
The hair has definitely improved. The fringe is less wispy because she’s parted her hair in the middle. It’s still 90s as hell, but it suits SMG better. She’s wearing silvery hoops I can’t get a good view of, but they’re pretty.
She’s wearing the cross necklace, which, again, I’ve always liked and may have looked for a copy once or twice. But as someone raised Roman Catholic who is basically agnostic and suspicious of organised religion, the cross is still a weighty object, emotion wise. It’s why I couldn’t quite bring myself to wear Rosary Beads as a necklace when Kate Moss did that time. Even though it looked cool.
I always thought Buffy was wearing a navy button-up shirt here. But now I can see it’s black. And not button-up. Is there a zipper at the neckline? Probably not. I think the amount of attention I paid these last 20 years of watching and re-watching suggests I didn’t really care for it. There’s a vague memory of liking it, but perhaps it was more about the accessories.
Tumblr media
We’re also back to ankle length pants that are somewhere in between straight and wide leg. They’re a silvery blue, which I think is why I thought the shirt was navy - some sort of same colour palette deal. The boots are around ankle length as well. They have buckles? We see them infrequently but she will wear them to the Bronze. Which will lead me to wonder why she changed her entire outfit except her shoes. Then I remember I do that all the time and shut the hell up about it.
Was matching your eye make-up to a colour you’re wearing a thing? Because this is the second time Buffy is matching her eyeshadow to her clothes, pants in this case. It looks ok, I guess?
The real stars of this outfit, however, are the sunnies. I mean, come on. Look at those babies. I would wear the heck out of these now. So. Fucking. Great.
Tumblr media
Buffy wanders off school property to battle some vampires and rescue Jesse/find out he’s been turned into a vampire with Xander in tow and some cryptic warning from Angel, who could actually help her but chooses not to because… reasons. But now it’s time to stop Luke, Darla and friends from feasting on more of Buffy’s classmates. Outfit change!
Outfit 2
Tumblr media
Again, Buffy chooses practicality for slayage. Does it look any good? Well… sort of? This time we have grey/charcoal pants that are slim fit, but not skinny leg (see previous post on why). She’s wearing the same boots as outfit 1, which – why change everything else but the boots? I’m sure I’ve done the same (see how I mentioned earlier that I’d say that? Is that foreshadowing? Is this a callback?).
I keep forgetting that she wears a long-sleeved white t-shirt with weirdly placed pockets and a strange neckline. I think it’s designed to show Buffy means business and to show off the cross necklace again. It’s… ok.
The hair is again the highlight, which has been put in a very practical high ponytail. To hide stakes, possible bloodstains and to battle both the undead and the cold weather she wears a brown leather jacket. That sounds cool, yeah? Probably makes Buffy even cooler, right?
Tumblr media
Uh, no.
It’s baggy. It’s old and ugly. It may have been passed down by the previous slayer, or her dad, or a homeless person. I probably loved it. Jackets in the 90s weren’t really about tailoring or correct sleeve length.
I do love an ugly jacket. You’re talking to a person who has a brown bomber jacket with navy trim and at least four different animal prints. This should be in my wheelhouse. Actually, I should search for this on eBay right now.
Tumblr media
This look does feature prominently in the opening credits and a lot of images of Buffy on the worldwide web. She looks cool as hell. Without the jacket. And I might have worn jeans instead. But again, they’d be late 90s jeans and probably not much of an improvement. Speaking of improvement, let’s see how the next outfit isn’t one!
Outfit 3
Tumblr media
Like, what is this? We clearly liked the 60s in the late 90s. Upcoming episodes will definitely confirm this. But did we do it well? Uh… not this time.
Tumblr media
So we have here a cherry shift dress that looks quite cute on its own. And the boots from Welcome to the Hellmouth are back. And they are welcome. Shift dresses and knee high boots are very cute. Ask Twiggy. But then… Buffy has thrown over the top of this a purple, possibly suede shirt. And it’s… it’s… not great. She tops this look off with a magenta headscarf.
Nothing individually is too offensive, but also nothing quite works together. You know how Coco Chanel (probably) said to always take one thing off before you leave the house? Buffy, gurl, why not roll with that and lose two-three before leaving the house. Or just start again.
So what were others wearing this episode? Giles was his English librarian best. And we all know how I feel about Giles now. Cordelia didn’t feature too heavily but her outfit at the Bronze was giving off sexy cat burglar vibes, which is good.
There’s a scene in a computer lab in which Cordelia and Harmony discuss how awful Buffy is and Willow gets sweet, sweet vengeance. But I don’t really care about the ensemble here. It’s the guy who propels the conversation between Cordy and Harmony. I want all of us to take note of extras or supporting cast members who take their role very seriously. This guy is really into doing a good job as guy who asks Cordelia about Buffy.
Tumblr media
See?
Tumblr media
Xander wins with this green number. But then he loses with a wallet chain, and later a camouflage t-shirt.
Tumblr media
Angel is now dressed like he’s going to a meeting with the New York office. Perfect for stalking teen girls and not helping them. But, like, yeah he’s really hot.
Our actual winner, again, is Willow. Cute overalls? Yes. Cute dress with cute cardigan? Again, yes, of course. Have you met Willow Rosenberg?
Tumblr media
Up next is Witch, where I’ll tell you all about how much I love Adidas Superstars and we finally discuss Buffy’s sleepwear. And is there tie-dye? THERE SURE IS.
Keep an eye out for more bonus posts and the first commentary, which will be… actually, I’m gonna maintain an air of mystery and tell you later.
 Until next time, Slayerettes.

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / IndieBound
Review:
Before reading Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen’s An Anonymous Girl, I had read several reviews stating that it was ‘Overrated’ and ‘Not up to all of the hype’ everyone was giving it. Let me say, that if you, too, have read these reviews then please note that you should take them as a grain of salt and toss them over your shoulder! I wish I hadn’t waited so long to pick it up!
Could you tell a lie without feeling guilt? Have you ever deeply hurt someone you care about? Should a punishment always fit a crime?
An Anonymous Girl is a fantastic psychological thriller that will have you not only sitting on the edge of your seat until the very end, but will also have you questioning your own morals. Fans of Caroline Kepnes’s You will instantly gravitate to Dr. Shields’s subtly creepy obsession with Subject 52, Jessica Farris, and the hope that she “could become a pioneer in the field of psychological research.”
An Anonymous Girl is rife with mysteries and psychological conundrums. Just when you think that you have finally figured things out, Dr. Shields is not only two steps ahead of Jessica, but ahead of you, too! Minuscule details about doubt, passion and trust, add up to one final test for Jessica, and an ending that you’ll never see coming!

Audio Book Review
The Last Days of August
By Jon Ronson
Publication Date: January 3, 2019 Genre: Non-Fiction, True Crime, Mystery, Journalism, Biography, Abuse
Synopsis:
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic.
A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.
In The Last Days of August, Ronson unravels the never-before-told story of what caused this beloved 23-year-old actress’ untimely death.
Purchase:
Audible Original
Review:
I thought the idea of this book was great and I loved that it was in a podcast formatting almost.  Everything was done really well, including the 'investigation,' but my biggest problem was that I felt the story, like August's life, ended too abruptly; there was no conclusion, no end other than what we know from the beginning: August is dead. I know that at the very beginning, Jon Ronson plainly and clearly states that this is not a murder mystery, but seeing how the whole story goes in that direction, I would have liked a better conclusion, one that didn't leave me feeling like I dangling off the edge of a cliff.

Purchase:
Amazon / B&N / Kobo / IndieBound
Review:
I am 100% done with this book and I’m still not sure how I really feel about it. The writing was done very well, and made you think, but it also became dull and boring on more than one occasion, taking the thrill out of “thriller.” It’s definitely more of a crime-mystery than a mystery-thriller.
Jane Corry’s My Husband’s Wife was an interesting story that had many different components that needed to be there to make the ending workout in the way that it did. While reading it, I kept wondering why on earth a certain character was in the book at all other than to add some drama to the current scene. Turns out, that character ends up playing a pretty vital role in the end results. Another character I was just completely annoyed with the entire book and kept wondering when Corry was going to kill them off (I hoped and prayed, they annoyed me so much!) But turns out, they, too, were very vital to the end result, and to the title.
As a side note: I was also very surprised to see that this book was published back in 2017. I have seen it (I feel) EVERYWHERE lately and thought for sure that it was a new book within the last couple of months. When I realized that it came out in 2017 I was shocked. I am very curious to know why it took so long for me to notice it, and why it has been showing up everywhere I look now.
All in all, it was a good crime-mystery. It does drag a bit, but it was very complex and I do give props to Corry for that. I did constantly question which character was saying the title; you think you know, and then in next chapter you’re unsure again. If you’re looking for a thrill, put this one down, it’s not for you. But if you’re looking for a crime, this is a good one for you!

Review:
If you’re looking for a mystery thriller that will take behind the scenes with both the police and the the man they’re hunting, then Right Behind You by Lisa Gardner is a perfect fit!
I thoroughly enjoy reading mysteries when you get to see behind the scenes of both the good and the bad, and it’s not an easy task of the author to do this and still keep you guessing! Gardner did an amazing job of letting you be on opposing sides, but holding back enough information in the process to keep you guessing all the way to the end. Just when you thought you knew who it was or what was going to happen next, characters camouflage themselves just enough to stay hidden, the scene changed dramatically, and you’d find yourself just as confused as the profilers.
I really enjoyed Right Behind You! I had a very hard time putting it down, and even found myself dreaming of it, awaking to read for several hours in the wee hours of the morning. I only have two small complaints:
1) I wish there were a touch more to the epilogue. It was a great ending, but I wish there was a smidge more to it.
2) The cover photo on my copy is misleading (see photo above for what my cover looks like). I know this probably comes off as trivial, but I am one that slightly judges a book on it’s cover. I tend not to read book synopsis before reading a book. I don’t like getting a prejudged assessment of the book I’m about to read. Instead, I like to make an attempted guess as to what I’m about to read based on the title and the photo on the cover. While this is not always the best approach, I find it fun to see if my thoughts based on these two things play into the actual story any. A truly great book art designer will give you a snippet into the book, and I feel this design did not. I get the broken glass/window, but the background photo looks like two dead bodies laying in a bush, which does not happen in the book. Maybe the legs are supposed to be Sharlah being chased by her brother, Telly? But then why are they lying on the grass? It’s just very confusing and not the best option. The cover for the paperback was was definitely a better choice (see cover to right), or even a close up of a camouflaged face… My preference, but then again that is what a review is.
Overall, I really, really enjoyed Right Behind You. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good police mystery-thriller. As for me, I look forward to reading Gardner’s other works, including the other six Quincy & Rainie books!
