Good Things Come to Those Who Wait
Warnings: captivity, torture, blood, restraints, wounds
Whumpee strained against the ropes that kept them in the chair. Strained as hard as they could to break free. They had to break free now, while Whumper was monologuing about something.
“Are you even listening to me?” Whumper said as they suddenly spun round to glare at Whumpee.
“Uh, yeah, of course,” Whumpee quickly lied. They still were trying to break their hands free, though more subtly this time.
“Then what did I say?” Whumper said as they stopped at the nearby table of instruments.
The instruments were just out of view, but Whumpee didn’t like what Whumper had to say. Didn’t like how they stroked down the tray. “All the things you were planning on doing to me. To cause pain.” Whupee swallowed. They hoped that was enough.
“Tsk, tsk, Whumpee,” Whumper said as their hand paused above something. “I was telling you the merits of the different length of nail.”
Whumpee’s mouth went dry. “Nail?”
Whumper nodded. “Yes, common nails don’t quite do it, too short, not thick enough. Box nails are much too small. But threaded nails,” Whumper said as they lifted a large nail gun. They picked up a particularly long nail, “Threaded nails are the best. You can get them up to nine inches.”
Whumpee’s heart thudded in their chest. “Why do you need nails that long?” They already knew the answer. Whumper stalked closer. “Surely any size nail will hurt.”
Whumper chuckled as they reached Whumpee. They pressed the nail gun to Whumpee’s hand. “So I won’t need the rope to keep you in the chair.” And they pulled the trigger.
Whumpee screamed as blood ran from the puncture wound. The nail had gone perfectly through their hand and into the wood of the arm of the chair.
“It won’t take long. Then the real fun can begin!” Whumper sounded delighted as they pressed the nail gun to Whumpee’s shoulder. “Hold still so I don’t have to do it twice.”
Whumpee’s scream became all they knew as their world whited out when Whumper pulled the trigger once more. By the time Whumper had gotten to their feet, Whumpee was barely clinging to consciousness. They were sweaty and blood, their limbs shaking from pain.
“Just two more, Whumpee. And think, if you’re good enough I can end it this way for you too. It’ll be quick. One quick squeeze and it’ll all be over. Pain free.”
“Wha....wha...wha...” Whumpee managed to grit out. They didn’t understand what Whumper was saying.
“If you make this next part good, really good, I won’t use as many tools as possible to end your life. I’ll just use this. Nine inches is sure to pierce your heart. Instant death.” Whumper pressed the nail gun to Whumpee’s shin. “But, be boring--faint, defy me, anything to be boring--and I’ll make sure your end is long and drawn out. Painful as possible. Are we clear?”
Whumpee nodded, hoping that it would by Caretaker enough time to find them.
“Good,” Whumper purred as they pulled the trigger once more.

I removed the Tumblr app from my phone. Too much of a thing becomes normal. It got to a point where I did not even want to post anything. Coming in once or twice a week will be a good compromise.
I now do the same with music. A tune will grab me. I save it to my YT playlist for when I blog.
Delaying gratification is an ancient practice. I now understand its power.
