How Good dad Draxum interacts with his son(s).
For Leo, he'd try to cultivate his strategic mind, offering to play any sort of strategic game with him. One of Leo's favorite past times is playing chess(or any other game) with his father. He also allows Leo to drag him to Leo's favorite spot to hang out in, Run of the Mill Pizza, and while he doesn't care for the human food, he has to admit that Senior Hueso makes some good food.
For Donnie, He got him all the toys he could ever want. even if some of these toys were random appliances like microwaves and blenders. Any time Donnie wants to show him any gadget he makes, Draxum would stop everything and listen on with rapt attention and congratulate him(He's read in a few books that doing stuff like that is key to a child's growth.) and encourages any lethal and unethical tech Donnie creates. And when Donnie grows older, he makes sure to steal a few high school and college text books and random tech from the surface for his son. Though he regrets getting Donnie a human phone.
For Mikey, he highly encourages his interests in painting and cooking. He stole a bunch of human appliances to craft himself a home kitchen for his sone immediately after he showed interest. When he learns of Mikey's mystic talent, he encourages his interests even more. he knows that the best mystic warriors are ones who are the most in tune with themselves. He's grown fond over the years of Mikey's cooking, especially when he comes home to Mikey's food. He also loves Mikey's persona, Dr. Delicate Touch, enjoying his ruthless efficiency. Mikey also loves the lessons between him and Draxum. he loves getting whatever spell he's practicing correct and seeing Draxum's proud father look.
And finally, Raph. At first, he didn't like how gentle and kind Raph was, but new that trying to force him to act differently would be detrimental to his goal of raising a general. Years later, he's actually grown to respect it. He believes Raph would make a good leader to his future army with his kind and optimistic personality. He knows how much Raph likes plushies and has gotten enough plushies for Raph to bury himself in. He also helps Raph with his savage persona, helping him learn to use Savage to his benefit.

Presenting: The AU I accidentally created OOPSIE!! 😬😬😬
And yes, I know, it's another Seperation AU, and yes YES, I KNOW, they're a bit overdone at this point, bUT LISTEN!! That's precisely how I ended up in this situation!!!
So there's a lot of Seperation AUs exploring a lot of different scenarios with the turtles being raised, well, seperately. I've seen quite a few of them at this point, and despite whatever the combination is when it comes to turtle + parental figure, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed a pattern of specifically Donnie often being raised by a villain. Which makes sense, he has a tendency to put on this evil-mad-scientist-act in the show, so of course a lot of us want to see what Donnie would actually be like as a proper antagonist. But that just made me think think of the opposite possibility, of Donnie being the singular good guy while his brothers are all bad guys. Mind you, I'm sure SOMEONE must've thought of this concept before me, but I haven't seen it! So here we are!
Tumblr media
In this AU (which doesn't have a name so don't ask!) Splinter only managed to yoink Donnie during The Incident™, so he ended up an only child, while Raph, Leo and Mikey were raised by Draxum. I also imagine Draxum being at least a decent dad considering the circumstances, so the kids he raised ended up with pretty similar personalities to what they have in canon.
Because of that we get Hero Donnie who acts all villainous cuz he's a total theaterkid, and Villain Raph, Leo and Mikey who act all heroic cuz they honestly believe they're doing the right thing in literally destroying all of humankind and as a result developed an intense case of main character syndrome.
Anyway here's some references-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know how far I'll explore this AU. I fully intended to just make like one or two posts rambling about the basic concept, but when I was drawing these images my brain went into full Brain Blast mode and I started coming up with a bunch of other ideas so uh... we'll see how this turns out later I guess haha

For the Meet the Comics AU… when Draxum mentions Raph’s parent from a pond does he mean they were somebody’s pet? Because not only do Alligator snapping turtles only occur in the South but they don’t live in ponds. They can only be found in rivers. Also, yikes Donnie’s parent suddenly materializing in his hands that close to his face? I guess he doesn’t need a face anymore.
Hey, someone picked up on that! Pretty quickly too lol.
Alligator snapping turtles are NOT native to areas around New York, nor do they normally live in ponds. However, there are tons of different reports of alligator snapping turtles being bought as illegal exotic pets. When the owners realize how much work they are, sometimes they will dump them in nearby places like ponds and rivers. Snapping turtles get really big, and can quickly become an invasive apex predator wherever they're introduced. There's cases of this as far as California or even a whole ocean away from where they are native to in England.
Tumblr media
Don't release your pets into the wild, not even goldfish. ESPECIALLY not goldfish. It’s not good for them and the environment. Find them a new home or give them up to a shelter if you can't take care of them.
As for Donnie's dad, you'll learn more about him later lol. But he's smart enough even as a turtle to recognize his son when he sees him.

As promised, to show my thanks for getting Grown Apart AU through to the next @tmntaucompetition round - here's a little bonus treat:
A visual chart detailing all the major character relationships in the AU's first act! Enjoy!
(Click "keep reading" for some additional information on a few of the dynamics shown above.)
Splinter & Mikey - When the boys were still very small, Splinter used to take them with him on his excursions out of the sewers (either to get supplies or to search for the two missing turtles). During one of these trips, Mikey got separated from his dad and brother - they eventually found him, mostly unharmed, but the traumatic experience left a lasting mark on Splinter and he has worried about his youngest son ever since.
Leo & Raph - Leo and Raph are the first of the estranged brothers to meet, face-to-face. Raph finds Leo snooping around Draxum's lab and attacks him. Leo manages to escape, with his newly acquired portal sword, but the lab is destroyed in the clash. The two proceed to fight each other on multiple occasions after this, forming a sort of battlefield rivalry.
Donnie & Mikey - By complete and total coincidence, Donnie ends up saving Mikey's life after Draxum drops him off the roof of a building. Mikey takes this as evidence that Donnie is a good person and decides to trust him (despite Leo's protests). Realizing this, Donnie uses Mikey's "misplaced" trust in him as a ticket into the Hamato residence so that he can hide out there until he's apprehended the oozesquitos.
Raph & BM's Assistant - Although Big Mama and Draxum don't work together often, their business does tend to intersect on occasion. Because of this, Raph has had the odd encounter with Big Mama's masked companion. They've never spoken, though (not that BMA would speak even if they had gotten the chance).
Donnie & Raph - They're aware of each other's existence, thanks to their parents' occasional dealings, but haven't actually seen or spoken with each other. Big Mama largely limits Donnie's interaction with anyone outside of herself and hotel staff, and she's especially reluctant to let him meet other mutants (once she learns of their existence) or Draxum. This hasn't stopped him from listening in on some of her business chats via his surveillance tech and finding things out that way, though. Raph only knows Donnie as Big Mama's mechanic and the one responsible for her criminal empire's recent upgrade in technological advancements.
Splinter & Leo - Because of the incident that occurred when they were younger, Splinter has always had a soft spot for Mikey. Leo doesn't exactly resent this fact, but he does often feel like he gets short-changed on all accounts - when Splinter isn't around, Leo is responsible for keeping them both safe and out of trouble. When Splinter IS around, a majority of his limited attention generally gets directed towards Mikey. Thanks to this, Leo is left feeling both a little attention-starved and desperate for some independence. He's too proud to admit to his dad that he feels unseen, though, so he instead opts for causing a little mischief to get the desired attention.
Raph & Mikey - After learning that Raph is not only a mutant, like himself and Leo, but that they were created by the same person - Mikey becomes determined to befriend him and change his mind about humanity. He considers Raph part of the family - even before finding out that Lou Jitsu is their real father, thus making him their real brother. Raph doesn't quite share the sentiment, though - as far as he's concerned, Mikey's the one who's on the wrong side of the fight and no amount of niceness is going to convince him otherwise. (It does, however, make it a lot harder to hate him...)
Donnie & BM's Assistant - These two have a history that goes back several years and has soured with time...on Donnie's end, at least. He used to be close to BMA, considered them a friend for a little while, then something happened to change his opinion of them and caused him to see them as a rival. But what about BMA? What effect, if any, did the loss of Donnie's trust and friendship have on them? As with all things surrounding this character, it's a mystery...

Trick: Leo and Draxum
Had an idea here for an End Game AU where:
the boys don't escape, and for whatever reason Splinter can't break out either
Draxum reads the room a little better on what will happen when he puts that Dark Armor on
the boys did a better repair job on the helmet
idk what specific warnings to put on this but uh Leo is straight up not having a good time
---
Leo sees Draxum coming toward their cage, and knows they've run out of time to try for an escape attempt. Instinctively he moves closer to his brothers. He feels them closing ranks beside him, too.
"Now now, there's no need for such ugly looks." Draxum looks entirely too smugly satisfied as he surveys them, just outside of striking range on his side of the bars. "You should feel honored. I have a place for each of you in my glorious army."
"Thanks, but we're too young to enlist," says Leo automatically. He feels Raph shift behind him.
"And yet that hasn't stopped you from interfering with my plans at every turn. But that ends now."
Draxum crosses his arms behind his back, looking over each of them in turn. Leo doesn't like it at all; it makes him feel like a piece of meat being considered for grilling.
"Each of you will have your use," Draxum continues. "Snapping turtle, you are incredibly strong, both physically and mystically. And I have seen you lead your team. Rough around the edges to be sure, but you will make a fine general.
"Box turtle, you have an unusually high amount of untapped mystical energy. Under my instruction, you will become someone truly formiddable.
"And softshell, you are clearly highly intelligent. A shame you have wasted your talents on the human schools of invention, but rest assured, I can teach you all you need to know.
"And finally, the red-eared slider."
"Don't forget my winning personality and gorgeous smile," Leo quips.
In response, Draxum regards him coolly.
"Compared to your brothers, you are mediocre in every way. Your mystic potential is above average, but much weaker than the rest. You are not nearly so strong or intelligent, and while you have some physical talent, it's outweighed by your insufferable attitude."
It shouldn't sting. It shouldn't. Draxum's just a crummy villain, who cares what he has to say?
Leo chuckles nervously, shuffling back. "Mediocre? No way, I'm the best! Come on, guys, tell 'im."
This is where his brothers should chime in. Donnie should say, "No, he's right." Or Mikey should back Leo up, shouting down Draxum.
None of that happens. Instead, Raph is the one who moves, putting a hand on Leo's shoulder and physically moving him to the back, putting himself bodily between Leo and Draxum.
"None of us are joinin' your army," Raph growls.
"This is not something you have a choice in." Draxum waves a hand. "Now, I will be taking the slider with me."
Abruptly the bottom of the cage under Leo starts to sink, and he yelps, flailing his hands out for his brothers. Donnie and Mikey grab on, trying to hold him, but as the bottom of the cage falls out a strong vine grips his ankle and yanks, pulling him out of their grasp.
"Leo!" they yell after him.
Outside the cage, Leo hangs suspended in vines that grip him by every limb and around the middle. Draxum turns on his heel and walks away, and the vines carry him along after.
He tries to turn back and see his brothers, who are still making a racket, tries to smile reassuringly, but the vines hold him too tightly, and he can't.
"Hey, hey," he says. "If I'm so mediocre, what do you even need me for, huh?"
"Relaaax," says Draxum, with an easygoing tone that Leo doesn't like at all. "I said I had a place for each of you, and I meant it."
The first thing Leo sees as they enter the next room is the Dark Armor, standing fully complete at the top of a dais. The next thing he sees is his dad, trapped inside a similar cage - the moment he sees Leo, he rushes to the bars, slamming at them hard.
It doesn't even make a dent.
"Draxum!" he roars. "You said you would let them go!"
Draxum looks over at Splinter, shrugging.
"I lied."
Leo doesn't have to wonder what kind of deal his father made for their release. That helmet wasn't there before.
"I kept wondering why the Foot Clan was so eager for me to get inside the Dark Armor when before they had been so adamantly against me getting anywhere near it," says Draxum, talking about things Leo frankly couldn't care less about. "And then I realized... there is... a hunger in this armor. It will not awaken to its full strength until it is fed."
He looks back at Leo with a smile. "That's where you come in."
"Oh no, it doesn't want me," says Leo fast. "I'm way too lean! At least fatten me up for a few weeks first."
"It does not want you flesh, fool. It wants your mystic energy."
Leo grimaces. "Well, you just said I'm pretty mediocre in that department, soooo..."
"I said you are weaker than your brothers. But you still have plenty to sate the armor."
"You sure? I mean, maybe you should find someone with more, uh, mystic energy juice."
Draxum pauses, turning to look him in the eyes. "Very well. I suppose I could go get the box turtle-"
Leo swallows hard. "No," he says, voice resolute. "Not him."
"Good. Then we are agreed."
"No!" shouts Splinter, and he sounds so terrified that it shakes Leo. His dad has never sounded like that. "Draxum, please! He is just a child!"
"Again with this objection when it never seemed to matter before," says Draxum, like he's bored. He begins pulling Leo toward the armor.
"Please! Don't do this!" Splinter slams into the bars again, but they don't budge. "Take me instead! Just do not do this to him!"
"Shut up, you doddering old rat," snaps Draxum, and vines wrap around Splinter, silencing him. "I still have my uses for you, too. Don't worry - I can always make you a replacement son."
"No replacing perfection," says Leo, feeling lightheaded and nonsensical, and a vine around his mouth silences him, too.
He's pulled on the dais. Draxum slides each piece of the armor onto his body, one by one. It's too big for him, and he feels like he's being swallowed by some gaping maw, sliding down into the stomach of a fearsome beast.
This is where the rescue is supposed to happen. His brothers are supposed to burst in, having made a daring escape. His dad is supposed to display some heretofore unseen power and kick Draxum's butt. Divine intervention from his ancestors is supposed to shield him, and he should be free to go home, where he can laugh with his family about the whole crazy incident and how he's apparently good for nothing but a blood sacrifice to a demonic spirit.
The rescue doesn't happen. Instead, he watches, eyes wide and full of fear, breathing too fast against his gag, as Draxum smiles gleefully and puts the helmet on.
The pain is indescribable. The vines finally fall away from his mouth, and it doesn't matter because all he can do is scream.
Draxum was right; there's something hungry in the armor. It's eating him alive now, not his flesh but his spirit, ripping the energy right out of his veins, peeling him apart at the seams. It feeds on him, on every part of his flagging mind - even his fear is delicious to it. And when he feels like he has no more he can give, when he's certain that this is the end, when the darkness starts to roll over his consciousness, pulling him down, he hears a voice - one full of hatred and rage and a dark satisfaction.
Thank you, Hamato.

Hello!! I'm the creator of Not a Run of the Mill Family and the first sep au going against you. I am really excited since I have liked your au for a while now and it is mind fucking blowing that I am against you right you rn. And I'm just here to wish you luck for the polls later today :))
-
Leo: Hi!! I heard we are going against each other during the first round of the competition. (Begins to rant at incomprehensible speeds in spanglish)
Hueso: Ah, to translate he wishes to say good luck to you all, and that we got a present for you.
Leo: Apparantley alot of turtles get more motivated when we mention pizza so . . . WE DECIDED TO MAKE PIZZA! You guys get first pick of course, we got any kind you may want. Except for the Super Disgusting Supreme Pizza . . . we don't have enough stuff for that. Sadly.
Hueso: I don't think most of them would like it, Pepino. I mean besides the one that are born in the Hidden City.
Leo; Who wouldn't like it? It's pizza! Anywayyyy, I am your amazing waiter, Leo, and I'm here to take your order!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One spaced out a little at "pizza"
SORRY FOR THE WAIT Idk what took over me but suddenly I had a whole Onesagi lore thing and I REALLY wanted to draw our AUs together. I love the concept of your AU so much, little Leo is adorable and I already loved Hueso and Leo's dynamic in the show but the father son relationship in your AU... chef's kiss
I really hope I captured your Hueso alright, he is such a good dad and the twins deserve a little bit of support. Plus I couldn't NOT draw the Leos together >:) (also I saw some fanart where Hueso's threatening Draxum to get Leo and I thought it was so good so I tried to nod to that concept here as well lol)
Anyway I hope they can all be friends :) We're also super excited for the poll! I have seen some stuff for your AU around tumblr and it is amazing.
Good luck and thank you for the ask!!
(translation below because I forgot to include it in the image I'm so sorry)

Good dad Draxum AU
I love good Draxum AUs, especially ones where he's still evil. My take on a Good Draxum is as follows:
As Lou Jitsu escapes, Draxum was able to grab one of the turtles(or more). With his lab destroyed, however, he can't rapidly age the turtle tot and reprogram it efficiently. Hence, he's forced to raise it.
At first, he hates the idea of taking care of some sniveling, whiny baby. Especially when he finds that the tot has a conscious. But as he's researching on how to raise a turtle yokai, he realizes something. The best way to raise his future general is to be the best goddamn dad he can be.
He doesn't cut any corners or take any shortcuts even! He's determined to be a good father and raise the best general he could ever hope for! He baby-proofs his lair as he's rebuilding, gets the tot some toys, pits him in the highest-rated daycare in the Hidden City, etc. He also makes sure to cultivate any interests or talents his tot has.
He's still evil, of course, and wants to destroy the human race. He's just also the best single dad in the Hidden City.

Finn, I can not believe I ever thought that this man had evil intentions at all in any way. It's so blatantly obvious he's just a sweet dad who wants his sons to be safe. This fandom has given me trust issues, so I just thought he was lying to Spot. Have you even seen what he's like in some au's??? It's horrible.
But I see now that Little Brother is quite literally it's own au with a unique spin on the story of Rise. I wish I could've seen that earlier. Of course Draxum has been changed to be a good dad to the turtles in some other au's, but not to this extent. This is the very first au where he's just a dad. Yeah, he's teaching Spot to fight and double mutated him, but that was only because it was the only way to save him in that moment, and it's obvious that the training isn't against his will. You saw him fighting those robots. And never have I heard Draxum say ONCE that he's planning to "destroy all humanity".
I've actually started watching 2012 because I got the whole series on DVD for Christmas. So, hopefully I'll get to understand more of what the Rat King is like. It would've been really interesting to see what his character would've become in Rise. But well, I can live. Whatever he was going to be, there is no way he was gonna be any better than the Rat King you've created. I mean, C'MON, look at him.
Tumblr media
ooh yeah the rat king is such a cool character, hes not all that interesting in 2012 to me though
i really like him in idw, he is a god who uses a flute to control things, he once made orphan children follow him in an attempt to make them line up and jump off a bridge one by one. i havent actually caught up with it i do not know/remember if hes been defeated yet
he is SO CREEPY IN 2003 TOO

Slushie i must ask. I love your Feral!Leo au, and i've read that you have it as Leo slowly gaining his memories back after a month(few months?), and the art you have where Leo refers to everyone in the picture as his treasure but not really recognizing Casey Jr but feeling like he must be family. In your arc ideas, does Leo ever met with Draxum before regaining his memories? would he see him as family or foe?
It is some time before the family feels comfortable re-introducing Leo to the friends and family he might not recognize. And that includes Draxum. Thankfully, they long enough that Leo doesn’t attack awkward Dad#2 immediately without cause. He’s wary, but Leo has enough reason back that can see Mikey is really excited about them meeting. So…if his little brother is okay with Draxum, then the guy must not be too bad. There is some slight hissing and growling, but apart from that, things goes pretty well. And the more they do it, the more memories Leo regains of Draxum. Some aren’t great—there’s a lot that are confusing, like ones where Draxum is fighting them and trying to kill all of humanity, but his bros explain that Draxum is a good guy now, plus there’s a few memories in there to back that claim up—like Draxum staying behind with Splinter to fight the Shredder.
But Leo will still watch him like a hawk whenever he comes over…just in case.

Not Quite Hidden AU: part 5. Word Count: 450. Readers chose: Leo's Point of View.
Leo is curious about a lot of things, like how vegetables are made, where Critter Crackers come from, and if he’ll grow hair like his dad’s.  But right now, he’s curious about a person.
“Didja see the goat guy we met today?  He was super tall!” Leo asks the cashier, a fishy looking lady, as she slowly adds up the total for their items.  They didn’t get a lot today because Dad wants to make sure that it isn’t too much for the five of them to carry home, but it’s still taking her so long.
“Uh-huh.”  She sticks her pen in her mouth for a second, glancing over the numbers she’s written down on a notepad.  “We get dozens of people in here hourly, kid, I don’t pay attention to every freaking one.”
Leo wrinkles his nose.  “But this guy was weird.”  He acted almost like their neighbor across the hall of their apartment building, the lady who talks to him and his brothers sometimes if they see each other in the stairwells.  Close to a stranger, but not quite.  Like he knew them from somewhere.  But Leo would remember a guy like that, he’s the best at remembering faces, and that makes it a mystery!
The cashier scrawls at the bottom of the page and hands it to Dad.  “Whatever, kid.  Sir, here’s your total.”
Donnie peers over the sheet from Dad’s side.  “Toldja it’d be that much, Dad,” he whispers.  Donnie always keeps track of the total and does the math in his head as they shop, but that’s too boring for Leo.  And Donnie’s the faster adder anyway, and by a lot, so they can’t even make a race out of it.
“He had gold horns, and his face was all blue!  Not the blue I like the most, though,” Leo continues loudly.  Being louder usually makes adults listen when they aren’t paying him enough attention.
The cashier finally glances in his direction.  “Wait, the guy’s wearing a mask?  Sweet, Baron Draxum always tips crazy good.  Hope it’s really him.”
Splinter pins his ears and huffs as he pulls out his wallet and counts out the right number of coins.  “I would recognize him anywhere.  Even at a grocery store, unfortunately.  But I have no idea how he… oh, Purple, does this amount look right to you?”
Donnie nods.
“Yeah, that’s what he said his name was, Barry Draxum!”  Leo echos importantly, but by then Dad is already pulling their groceries out of the cart they used and handing them out for carrying home.  Huh, it seems like Dad isn’t responding.  Maybe he doesn’t know anything?
Well, Leo’s got to en-vest-a-gate his mystery somehow.  But how?
